- 0:00Alright, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another edition
- 0:03of the Take Two Pod with Mom and Dad.
- 0:06I'm Dad. And Mom.
- 0:08The kids are down at has been a very mellow night.
- 0:12Would you say mom? It's been a chill night.
- 0:15I actually had a very important rite of passage this evening.
- 0:19I had to go to the grocery store today and because of nap
- 0:22schedule, pumping schedule, everything schedule, I wasn't
- 0:25able to go. So I picked up our son from
- 0:28daycare and I went to the grocery store with both kids.
- 0:31Wow. Look, Look, look.
- 0:34Look. Look.
- 0:35Look. Look, look, look, look.
- 0:36Anyone who has more than one child understands that that is,
- 0:40that's a feat. That's a feat of.
- 0:41Strength it's you're really rolling the dice.
- 0:45Because I didn't If if they're toddlers in a good mood, you're
- 0:47fine. Yeah, it's.
- 0:49It all depends on him, but. He just the fan.
- 0:51He held my hands. He was well behaved.
- 0:54He ate an apple in the grocery store.
- 0:55Don't worry, I paid for it and he was such a good.
- 0:58Boy, he. Did I?
- 0:59Did I always get an extra apple and I pay for that on the way
- 1:02out and then I leave it there? I'm just saying I'm a law
- 1:05abiding citizen, yes. Yeah, it was a nice night.
- 1:09Kids went down easy. No big, big concerns.
- 1:12It'd be nice if every night was like this, but no, that's not
- 1:15the case. Unfortunately, more, more, more
- 1:18often than not, there's tears at some point, but there was no
- 1:20tears. Tonight is something thrown,
- 1:22there's tears, you know, food is spilled, whatever.
- 1:25Alright, let's get started. We are now at episode 8.
- 1:30Wow, I can't believe we've come this far without ringing each
- 1:33others necks, but hey. We go less than a week in
- 1:37between podcasts usually. Yeah, that's impressed.
- 1:40Don't set the expectation they'll.
- 1:41Come, I'm not. We're just trying to get a
- 1:43catalog going. Mom, you wanna do the drum roll?
- 1:48All right, drum roll, please. Would you fuck me, Art Folkman
- 1:57artbook moves so hard. That's right, everybody.
- 2:01This week we're doing Silence of the Lambs, released in 1991,
- 2:09directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Jodie Foster, Anthony
- 2:12Hopkins and Scott Glenn. Can can I just say Jodie
- 2:17Foster's performance in this movie is possibly the best piece
- 2:21of acting I've ever seen. It might be the best performance
- 2:24I've ever seen anybody give. Yeah, it's, it's, it's up there.
- 2:28Jodie Foster. She she's up.
- 2:30She's up there in this one, like, really, really, really
- 2:33good acting. But Jonathan Demi, by the way,
- 2:36sorry. Yeah.
- 2:37But anyway, let's do this synopsis.
- 2:41A young FBI cadet must receive the help of an incarcerated and
- 2:46manipulative cannibal killer to help catch another serial
- 2:50killer, a madman whose skins his victims ache.
- 2:54A Buffalo Bill. That synopsis is just like
- 3:00dessert for anybody who watches all those Netflix serial killer
- 3:03dramas. Like, you know that is exactly
- 3:07what they're looking for. Yeah, it's this.
- 3:09I think this is a big part of this movie.
- 3:12Is it kicked off that interest in true crime?
- 3:15Yeah, I think this movie, it set the bar for a lot of things
- 3:18because people were this movie is considered a horror movie.
- 3:21At least it wasn't 91. Yeah, it was and I I still buy
- 3:25it. I would call it a thriller.
- 3:27Nowadays it would be a thriller. Sure I could.
- 3:29You could say thriller, slash, horror.
- 3:30There's definitely parts of the Hannibal's performance that that
- 3:35air on the side of horror, I would say.
- 3:37Yeah, so $270 million worldwide on a budget of 19,000,000, which
- 3:44is really, really good. That's amazing.
- 3:46This movie did have the book behind it, and it was a best
- 3:49seller. So when this came out, everybody
- 3:52was like, Oh my God, Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal the
- 3:56Cannibal. Let's go.
- 3:57Yeah, and they did use the same title.
- 3:59What's the book title? They didn't change it like like
- 4:02some movies do. Yeah, the first time you saw it,
- 4:05do you recall? No.
- 4:07Ohe shocker. Surprise, surprise.
- 4:10So the the interesting thing is that in my family, crime dramas
- 4:15have always been something that's watched a lot.
- 4:17In particular, my older brother really likes this movie.
- 4:21Everyone my family knows this movie and it's one of those
- 4:24movies that was on TV a lot, so it was just on in the
- 4:27background. I certainly did not watch it or
- 4:29have any interest in it as a kid because what weird ass kid
- 4:33would? Yeah, that's.
- 4:34Fair, but I did see pieces of it before I ever sat down and
- 4:37watched it in its entirety. But I never watched it all the
- 4:40way through until I was an adult and I was enthralled, disturbed
- 4:45and fascinated the first time I watched it through.
- 4:47Yeah, this movie is gets you right, those exact feelings.
- 4:50So you go right through those feelings because you're like,
- 4:53oh, this is intriguing. You know, she's doing a
- 4:55detective story and you're trying to find out who the
- 4:58killer is. And then you see some graphic
- 5:00ass shit and you're like, oh, and then you see some more
- 5:03graphics, graphics and we're going to talk about that graphic
- 5:06shit, AKA the tuck dance. But.
- 5:09Yeah, it's it's horrific, but you can't look away.
- 5:12What about you, Dad? What was your first time
- 5:14watching it? The first time I watched this, I
- 5:17was about 15 years old and I knew like the movie was in the
- 5:21house a couple times here and there, but I never kind of got
- 5:24into it. And then on the movie Network,
- 5:26one time it was just on and I sat down and I'm like, OK,
- 5:30let's, let's see what this movie is all about.
- 5:32But at that age, everybody knew it as the movie with the guy who
- 5:34eats people. And also it came out, I saw it
- 5:40right around the time Hannibal came out, which was in 2001.
- 5:45And all people talked about was, you know, he eats people.
- 5:48He eats people. Yeah.
- 5:50And everybody, like universally was saying the first movie was
- 5:53much better. So that's when it came across it
- 5:55on the Movie Network. And I watched it and I was just
- 5:57like, wow, this is crazy. I think any younger and you
- 6:01wouldn't have been able to appreciate it.
- 6:02I think 15 is like a decent age to have seen this for the first
- 6:05time, but honestly I think a little bit older would be better
- 6:08to fully grasp it. Yeah, even at that age, there
- 6:11was, you know, the graphic scenes, like some of the
- 6:13disturbing sequences. I was like, whoa, the part that
- 6:16actually, you know, you talk about horror.
- 6:18The part that scared me at 15 was the ending, the night vision
- 6:22goggles that freaked me out. Yeah.
- 6:24That was really creepy. You feel like you're Jody in
- 6:27that scene. You feel like you're in a dark
- 6:28room and you don't know what's going on.
- 6:30And he gets so close to her and almost touches her so many
- 6:33times. Yeah, it really freaks you.
- 6:35Out So why do you like it or hate it so much?
- 6:39So I, I love this movie. Strangely, there's such a
- 6:43familiarity to it just because, like I said, it was on all the
- 6:46time, like, and my, my dad has always loved crime movies.
- 6:49My older brother has always loved crime movies.
- 6:51Like, this is one that they would turn on if it was just,
- 6:53like, halfway through. Yeah.
- 6:55So it has like almost this like it feels like home a little bit
- 6:59to me if that's like. That's comforting to say.
- 7:02It's a comforting movie. Just because of the familiarity,
- 7:04obviously there's very dark content.
- 7:06Pretty twisted, but yeah, I get it.
- 7:08But it has, it has like such a homey feeling to me.
- 7:11So I, I really do love it. And anytime we watch it, like I
- 7:14said, I'm completely enthralled because if you let yourself
- 7:17really get into the story and and become Jody going through
- 7:21this experience or become Starling, sorry, going through
- 7:24this experience, it really is a like beautiful piece of art.
- 7:30Yeah, this movie is exquisite. Yeah.
- 7:32And this shocking thing, honestly for me is that it's
- 7:34under 2 hours. It's like the amount of stuff
- 7:38they packed into this under 2 hours is impressive because
- 7:42nowadays it they wouldn't be able to.
- 7:45Do it and the character development they get, you know,
- 7:47two hours is amazing. For multiple characters.
- 7:49Multiple characters. What about you?
- 7:51Why do you like it so much? I really like this movie a lot.
- 7:55The biggest reason for me is the way it's put together.
- 7:59Like I said it's under 2 hours. The score sucks you in like from
- 8:04the opening credits to the end. The score just really grabs you
- 8:09and it doesn't let go. Every scene in this movie has a
- 8:12purpose. There isn't any filler and the
- 8:16acting is phenomenal. You have you know, these actors.
- 8:20The when I when I see this movie, I'm like this is where
- 8:23they all peaked. A lot of them like some of them
- 8:26had really good movies later, but this is their peak.
- 8:29Like I don't think you know, Anthony Hopkins had some good
- 8:32movies after this. You know, he had edge.
- 8:34He did fracture. Jodie Foster had some great
- 8:37movies after this like panic room and flight or flight plan.
- 8:41Sorry, but this this movie is their peak for sure.
- 8:45And Jonathan Demi's direction in this movie is chef's kiss
- 8:49because in my opinion, this is his best movie.
- 8:52He did Philadelphia as well with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington
- 8:57a couple years after this and that won some Academy Awards,
- 9:00but this one won the five main ones.
- 9:03It won best picture, best director.
- 9:05Like it just cleaned up at the Oscars.
- 9:08Yeah, we'll get into that in cultural impact, but yeah, this
- 9:11this movie really is it's it's a stunning.
- 9:14Piece. Plus it's hilarious when it
- 9:16shouldn't be. I mean, you got all the epic
- 9:18quotes, the famous quotes. Like put the fucking lotion in
- 9:21the basket. We have inside jokes around it.
- 9:24There are a lot of people that would not find it.
- 9:25No, so the first time I found that this movies disturbing
- 9:30lines and quotes were funny was when I went to college because I
- 9:35you know, some of the scenes you kind of laugh at certain things
- 9:38that's happening, like the tuck dance.
- 9:40And then I'm like, this is disturbing.
- 9:42I probably shouldn't laugh. And then when I went to college
- 9:44for the first time, you know, my classmates were kind of like
- 9:47talking about the scenes and the tuck dance and.
- 9:50You know, Woodward art folkwear. Like they're saying that as a
- 9:53joke and I'm like, oh, either they're sick too or it's just
- 9:58money. People find it funny because
- 9:59it's uncomfortable and a little bit strange.
- 10:02So I think it's a it's universally funny for a lot of
- 10:06people. Well you watch this movie with
- 10:08my older brother once and he started laughing at the scene
- 10:11where Hannibal is beating the fuck out of that cop with a
- 10:14night stick and you told me about it.
- 10:16You were like your brother laughed maniacally, and then
- 10:19when we just watched it the other day, you laughed
- 10:21maniacally. That's I was gonna save this for
- 10:24later, but I'll, I'll, you brought it up so I'll tell you
- 10:26now. We went to visit your folks.
- 10:28I was in the living room with your brother.
- 10:30This is years ago, before any of the kids were around, and it was
- 10:34like 12:30 at night. Movie Network was on.
- 10:37I'm in the living room with your brother and we're just hanging
- 10:40out. Everybody's kind of like slowly
- 10:42going to bed and Hannibal's or Silence of the Lambs is playing
- 10:47and it's the scene where Lecture is getting his 2nd dinner.
- 10:51The lamb chops. The lamb chops?
- 10:53Yeah, extra rare. And then he escapes the
- 10:58handcuffs and grabs the police baton and he starts beating the
- 11:02living life at he beats the life out of that cop with the police
- 11:06baton. And you, you don't see the
- 11:07hitting. You just see Hannibal's face and
- 11:10blood, the blood splashing onto his white outfit.
- 11:13And your brother just bursts out laughing like randomly.
- 11:17So I looked at him like, yo, you OK, bro?
- 11:19Like, what the fuck? I don't.
- 11:22It's kind of funny, but it's not that funny.
- 11:24You know? He was laughing like you were
- 11:26watching a Dave Chappelle stand up.
- 11:28Yeah, you were like disturbed. But then we were, we watched it
- 11:31two nights ago and you started dying laughing at that scene.
- 11:33And I was like, OK, well, I guess it's funny.
- 11:35You know, laughing for different reasons.
- 11:37I'll bring that up later. But yeah, I was kind of like, OK
- 11:40bro, have a good night, enjoy the rest of the movie.
- 11:45But anyways, it's all good. So let's get into the segments
- 11:50here. What's your cringiest moment of
- 11:52this movie, mom? So.
- 11:57I'm just letting everyone know, listening right now.
- 11:59I'm fucking letting loose in this podcast, this episode.
- 12:03I mean, if you are squeamish, don't don't listen because I'm
- 12:06letting loose. So so I have two.
- 12:08One is before the tuck dance scene.
- 12:12It zooms in on Buffalo Bills nipple and he fiddles with a
- 12:16nipple ring and him fiddling with that nipple ring.
- 12:20Like my skin starts to crawl. I'm like, Ohm felt like he pulls
- 12:24on it kind of yeah, yeah. And it's really like, ooh, it
- 12:28just get like. It's just perking it up a
- 12:29little. You gotta give a little.
- 12:31Part. I don't know what it is about
- 12:32that scene. It really disturbed.
- 12:34Me. Maybe because you're pumping
- 12:35milk, that's why. Yeah.
- 12:37It's never bothered you before. It makes you really weird about
- 12:40nipples when you're pumping often or breastfeeding often,
- 12:43because it's yeah. The milk peel.
- 12:46Maybe that's why. But the other, the other scene
- 12:50is when Catherine Martin, AKA the victim, is singing in her
- 12:53car. Yeah, yeah, I love a jam
- 12:56session, a car. But let's just say I'm glad that
- 12:59no one's there to see it. Because that's so wholesome,
- 13:02though. That's a wholesome scene.
- 13:04Yeah, but it's cringey. Cringey.
- 13:06Yes, it is, because I know exactly how she feels.
- 13:09You have like a good song playing that you're really into
- 13:11and you're really singing it and you're.
- 13:13Like getting into. It, yeah, it's fun, but actually
- 13:17watching her doing it, it's like.
- 13:19Yeah, but you're supposed to. That's the whole clip.
- 13:21That's you're supposed to root for her.
- 13:23You want her to get away because she's just a wholesome girl
- 13:26singing A. Song Honestly, I find it more
- 13:27endearing that she sees an injured person trying to load
- 13:30their car and she can't tear her eyes away.
- 13:33She has to go and help. Can I help you you?
- 13:38Sure, that's what I find makes her so likable.
- 13:41Not this singing in her car. The singing.
- 13:42Her whole scene is a life lesson for everybody.
- 13:47So when our kids get older, we're definitely telling them
- 13:50don't help anybody who's got a truck in the middle of the night
- 13:53and they have a cast on because you're getting fucking just.
- 13:56Said I'm gonna tell our daughter to be just be a bitch.
- 13:59OHP. There's nothing wrong with being
- 14:00a bitch. I mean, if it's gonna save you.
- 14:02No, seriously, somebody asked for help.
- 14:04Get the fuck away from me. Ask somebody else, don't ask me.
- 14:09Spare some change, it's like get the fuck away from me you
- 14:11fucking psycho boy. I'd rather her be a bitch than
- 14:15be a victim. Sure, fair enough, it's OK.
- 14:18So for me it's conscious moment after Migs.
- 14:24Keyword here. After Migs fires off his load
- 14:27onto Clarice's hair, one of the principal ones, one of the
- 14:31prisoners shouts out Horrible Cannibal just out of nowhere.
- 14:36And then Clarise runs to Doctor Lecter.
- 14:40He tells her that I'm going to help you and he says look deep
- 14:43within yourself. But why is that random inmates
- 14:47shouting Hannibal the cannibal He had nothing to do with the
- 14:50situation. OK Megs just fucking went off.
- 14:53He just jerked it and he's like I bit my hand.
- 14:57Look at the bland and he's like he's just shoots his load on
- 15:01her. Hair, it's so disgusting.
- 15:03It's on her face, yeah, but. That part, I mean why did the
- 15:09guy yell yell Hannibal the Cannibal?
- 15:11That made no sense to me. It seemed forced.
- 15:14For a movie that's pretty much perfect from start to finish,
- 15:17that line just seemed completely out of out of place.
- 15:20But also sidebar, the tuck dance is very cringy.
- 15:25But it all depends on who you're watching it with because I've
- 15:29seen that. I've watched that scene with
- 15:31different crowds and the reception is not always the
- 15:35same. Yeah.
- 15:37It it depends, really depends you're watching it with so just
- 15:41just just the food for thought. Yeah, for sure.
- 15:45Most iconic moment for you. So I have several moments and
- 15:49quotes. Um, the first time Clarice meets
- 15:52Hannibal, that scene is so strange and amazing because she
- 15:59approaches herself, She's walking by all these criminals
- 16:01or acting all crazy, and then she approaches his cell and he's
- 16:05standing there, he's ramrod straight.
- 16:07He's completely this. Cluster is so fucking strange.
- 16:10And he's, he's looking at her, he's kind of sizing her up like
- 16:13a, like a Python. He looks like they, they, they
- 16:17approach him in that scene like he's not human.
- 16:19It's, Yeah. It's like he's a dangerous
- 16:21animal in a zoo creature. He has a different type of cage
- 16:24than everybody else. Yeah.
- 16:25Because he's not allowed to have bars because he's so dangerous.
- 16:28Yeah. Like he's not allowed to stick
- 16:30his hands out because he could F somebody up that badly.
- 16:33Just a little fact here. Did you know that that was by
- 16:37mistake? It was by accident.
- 16:39The director didn't like the look of the bars.
- 16:42So they said because they wanted to be able to film him without
- 16:46the obstruction of the bars back and forth with him and Clarice.
- 16:51So they put glass. They said why don't we do glass?
- 16:53Like it's a shatterproof and you know, impact resistant.
- 16:57But then why didn't they make everybody's cells glass?
- 17:00Because also it made him look more dangerous.
- 17:02Yeah, that's that's what I like about.
- 17:04It but it was by accident. The real reason was because when
- 17:07they filmed it, it looked strange, so they ripped out the
- 17:09bars and they added glass which really made it super effective.
- 17:13So another scene that is so amazing is the scene where
- 17:17Clarice realizes she found Buffalo Bill.
- 17:20There's so much tension in that scene as we slowly see Clarice
- 17:24noticing all the puzzle pieces around the house.
- 17:27Yeah, and realizing she's looking at the killer.
- 17:29You can watch it gelling the gears moving in her head.
- 17:32Very close to catching somebody, you think?
- 17:36Yes, we may be. Did you take over this place
- 17:43after Missus Littman died? Is that right?
- 17:47Yeah, I bought this house so two years ago.
- 17:53Did she leave any records? Any business records, tax forms,
- 17:58list of employee. No, not like that at all.
- 18:02Because she's so smart and she's such a good detective, but also
- 18:05he's so creepy in that scene and you see her slowly getting more
- 18:09and more creeped out by him and more and more frightened.
- 18:11Something's off. Yeah, yeah, realizing she's in
- 18:13the presence of of the killer. What about you, Dad?
- 18:16What's your most iconic moment? So for me, my most iconic moment
- 18:22when is is the the dinner scene. Owen lecture orders is second
- 18:26dinner and they bring it to his cage and the music is lulling
- 18:31you the opera to like a sense of calm and relaxation, like we're
- 18:37about to enjoy that lovely meal that he's ordered.
- 18:40And that's a freaky scene. And then he just, he lets loose,
- 18:44he breaks out and he just like bites the guy's face off it, it
- 18:48goes from zero to 100 like instantly, like in the snap, you
- 18:53know. But I, every time I watch that,
- 18:56I it's that music. The It's the perfect choice of
- 18:59music, again with the soundtrack ready when you are duck.
- 19:08Just another minute, please. Really changes your whole
- 19:12mindset and your tone. Even though you see his in his,
- 19:16the palm of his hand, he has a piece of that pen.
- 19:19I was going to say, as a viewer, you're in on it with him because
- 19:22you know that he has that piece of pen.
- 19:23You know he's gonna do something.
- 19:25But yeah, that's my favorite. That's my most iconic moment for
- 19:28this. It was a hard, hard one to pick.
- 19:30My second favorite would be the second time he meets Clarice
- 19:34after she goes to the storage unit.
- 19:36The rain scene. Yeah, And then he hands her that
- 19:39towel because that's the scene where he's like, I'm gonna help
- 19:42you find Buffalo Bill. And she's just like, she stands
- 19:47right up. And she's like, let's do this.
- 19:49And you know, they team up. Yeah, it's odd.
- 19:52He's he likes to strangely like her.
- 19:54He starts to strangely like her around that time.
- 19:56And also he's like horrified that the seamen thing happened
- 20:00to her. He really detests if people are
- 20:02rude or disrespectful. Yeah, he, he, he likes her
- 20:05because he offends her. He says really horrible things.
- 20:08Remember, he calls her a rube and then she stands up for
- 20:13herself and then he admires that.
- 20:16So I think he's like, OK, I'm gonna help her out.
- 20:19Yeah, he says. It it it, it really would have
- 20:21been something to know you in real life.
- 20:24Yeah, in private. Yeah.
- 20:26OK, let's get to the fun part, or the most fun so far, the
- 20:30quotes. How do you want to do this?
- 20:31I've got it broken down by character this time because
- 20:34there's so many other quotes. So if you, you want to go first,
- 20:37ladies first. I've I have 7 and most of them
- 20:40are Hannibal. OK, go for.
- 20:42It census taker once tried to test me.
- 20:45I ate his liver with some fava beans, the nice Chianti.
- 20:50Yes. Oh man.
- 20:53It's so freaky. He's trying, he's trying to
- 20:57disturb Clarise, and then she shoots back at him like, oh, you
- 21:01ate your victims. Like she's totally unperturbed
- 21:03by it, which I love. A census taker once tried to
- 21:09test me. I ate his liver with some fava
- 21:13beans and a nice Chianti. You fly back to school now,
- 21:26little Starling. Fly, fly.
- 21:30This super disturbing but she's just balls to wall.
- 21:33She's not moving. Fly fly fly fly 5.
- 21:37That's so good. So good, such like it's, it's
- 21:40almost like he's dismissing her, but he's also just playing with
- 21:43her a little bit. Super.
- 21:45Clever. Yeah, I liked that.
- 21:47Of course. The very iconic quid pro quo.
- 21:51Quid pro quo Dr. Because he wants to know.
- 21:54He wants he's he's very. It's I, I don't know what the
- 21:57word is for it. Like he's, he's nosey and he and
- 22:00he, he needs to know deeply personal things that he wants to
- 22:04get in her head. Yeah.
- 22:06And that's her price for getting.
- 22:07Help I think he wants to get in her head, but also this guy was
- 22:11he's a practiced Dr. right So of psychiatry.
- 22:16So he, like, he is itching for people to open up to him.
- 22:22And there's a scene where later in the movie where he really
- 22:26wants her, he forces her to open up to him about her trauma as a
- 22:30child. Yeah.
- 22:31And he thanks her afterwards. And I think he thanks her
- 22:35because he's like, somebody finally opened up to me.
- 22:38It's been 8 years that I've been in the cell.
- 22:41And I could, you know, he could flex his muscles.
- 22:45He can, you know, practice what he he knows so well.
- 22:49Yeah. And, and he obviously is a
- 22:50genius and on top of that, also very talented therapist.
- 22:55Yeah. So I think for him likes being
- 22:57in that cell, so lonely for so many years.
- 22:59It feels like his, his tool is being wasted.
- 23:02Is it? He has his he has this finely
- 23:03honed tool exactly that he wants to use.
- 23:06Yeah. What else you got 1?
- 23:09Do you wanna go for a few and then we can come back?
- 23:10To you, I'm. I'm.
- 23:11Yeah. I mean, I got you wanna say it
- 23:13on Hannibal. One of my favorites is Ready
- 23:17when you are Sergeant Pembury. He says it when they bring his
- 23:21food and he sits down and he lets them cuff him.
- 23:25And then once he bites the other cops face off and then he grabs
- 23:30that knife and walks out of the cell.
- 23:32He says the same thing to the Sergeant.
- 23:35Really creepy. Yeah, he just, he acts so proper
- 23:37and and normal and then he just turns into an animal.
- 23:41Go ahead. It rubs the lotion on its skin
- 23:43or else it gets the hose again. Are you switched the Buffalo
- 23:48Bill? I switched to Buffalo Bill
- 23:49really quick just because that's a very iconic line.
- 23:52And also it's it's freaky. He's he's calling her it because
- 23:56he doesn't want to acknowledge she's a human, because he does
- 23:58feel tremendous amount of guilt for what he's doing.
- 24:00He's see him grappling with what he's doing.
- 24:03So he doesn't want to admit she's a human.
- 24:05But at the same time, he's like, take care of your skin so I can
- 24:08make a suit out of it because I'm a freak.
- 24:10Really, really disturbing shit. Yeah, very, very disturbing.
- 24:13It rubs the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose.
- 24:17Again, part of that reason, part of the reason that that line is
- 24:21so iconic now, I think because it rhymes and it doesn't rhyme
- 24:26on purpose. I don't think that was
- 24:27intentional, but now it's like. It rubs the lotion on its skin,
- 24:33or else it gets the hose again. It rubs the lotion on its skin,
- 24:37or else it gets the hose again. It's kind of.
- 24:40Like a nursery. Rhyme.
- 24:41It's like a rhyme you would give a kid to learn how to wash their
- 24:44hands. You know?
- 24:46It's really freaky. Yeah, I got some more Hannibal
- 24:49here. Yeah, I I do too.
- 24:52People will say we're in love. Well, Clarice, have the lamb
- 24:57stop screaming. Oh, your hand also is better
- 25:00than mine. Oh, and Senator, just one more
- 25:04thing. Love the suit?
- 25:07I love that it's so out of character for him.
- 25:10Though, and your nipples didn't that.
- 25:12Ohk I have I have something about that later as as a
- 25:15breastfeeding mom, I'm offended. Evening classes.
- 25:20Which is where can we just go back to the.
- 25:22Of course it toughened her nipples.
- 25:24OK, your nipples turned to steel when you breastfeed.
- 25:27Fuck you, Hannibal. OK, Ricki Lake, chill out.
- 25:29OK, go ahead. OK, so I've got Buffalo Bill
- 25:33now. You don't know what pain is.
- 25:37Or was she a great big fat person?
- 25:42When Clarice shows up at his door.
- 25:44He's so unsettling. I know this character is really
- 25:47weird. What the fucking lotion in the
- 25:49basket? What else?
- 25:52You. Got So this is a little bit of
- 25:54an exchange, so OK, stay with me.
- 25:57Hannibal. What does he do?
- 25:58This man you seek Clarice, He kills women.
- 26:03Hannibal. No, that is incidental.
- 26:06What is the 1st and principal thing he does?
- 26:10What needs? Does he serve by killing?
- 26:12Clarice? Anger of social acceptance?
- 26:15Of sexual frustrations? Hannibal.
- 26:18No, he covets. He covets, yeah.
- 26:24It's, it's, it's so good. I love that part.
- 26:27Yeah, there's so many good quotes.
- 26:28Like the significance of the moth is that of change.
- 26:32Our boy Billy is trying to change too.
- 26:35Buffalo Bill. So we got.
- 26:37Are you about a size 14? So he he he lures the girl into
- 26:43OK, let me start this over. Buffalo Bill lures Catherine
- 26:47into the van to help him move the the couch.
- 26:50Soon as she gets into the van with the couch, he climbs in and
- 26:55just calmly asks her. Who are you?
- 26:59Better size 14. And then just knocks out of the
- 27:01fuck out repeatedly with a cast arm.
- 27:04Just beats the hell out of her until she's knocked out.
- 27:07Really. Creepy.
- 27:08Why does he even ask? He beats the fuck out of her and
- 27:10then checks. So weird.
- 27:12I don't know, I guess to confirm to the audience that he's found
- 27:14what he wants because. Well, he cuts his shirt open,
- 27:17and then he feels her up and he's.
- 27:20Feeling her up, he's. Feeling.
- 27:21Yeah, he's feeling her skin. I have a question about Buffalo
- 27:24Bill. He's feeling her skin, the see
- 27:26how soft it. Is I know, but Cannibal talks
- 27:29about him having a male lover but he hunts women.
- 27:33That is very, very odd and unique.
- 27:36I mean, yeah, I guess I. Well, I know he's making suits
- 27:40out of them, so it's like it. Does he wants to wear a woman's?
- 27:44Suit Yeah, but it's it's strange for someone to hunt outside of
- 27:49their sexual orientation because like John Wayne Gacy was
- 27:52attracted to young boys. He only hunted young boys.
- 27:55Jeffrey Dahmer was gay. He only hunted men.
- 27:58Ted Bundy was straight. He only hunted comment like this
- 28:00is a very unique case where I think we have a gayer, we have a
- 28:04gayer trans murderer and he's only abducting women.
- 28:08Buffalo Bill is based off 3 serial killers, Ed Gein and Ed
- 28:12Gein's The Outlier he used to capture women and turn them into
- 28:17a women's suit. Was he straight?
- 28:20I don't know. I have to look it up, but yeah.
- 28:23So Buffalo Bill is Ed Gein. He's who's that other one?
- 28:26Dahmer, Ted Bundy. No Ted Bundy.
- 28:28Ted Bundy and Dahmer. No, it's not.
- 28:30It's not Dahmer. I have it written here.
- 28:31The third person. The third person is a guy that
- 28:33used to keep women in his basement.
- 28:35Oh, it's not Dahmer. OK, well, we'll get to it later.
- 28:38I'll say the name once we get to that part.
- 28:39OK, let's get back to the course.
- 28:42Would you fuck me hard? Fuck me.
- 28:44So iconic. And then just a quick shout out
- 28:48for multiple Miggs. I can smell your cunt.
- 28:53It's such an offensive. Probably the best quote.
- 28:56No, Most underrated quote? This is like, you know, the most
- 29:01underrated quote in the whole movie in my opinion.
- 29:04I can smell your cunt. It's one of the most terrifying
- 29:06things that a man could say to you knowing that he can't.
- 29:09Touch you 15 seconds later. Now then tell me what it Meggs
- 29:15said to you. Multiple Miggs in the next cell.
- 29:19He insisted you. What did he say?
- 29:24He said I can smell your cunt. I see I myself cannot.
- 29:41You use everyone's skin cream and sometimes you'll wear later
- 29:48time, but not today. Super fucking creepy this.
- 29:54Guy, how is his sense of smell so good?
- 29:56He's he's an animal. He's this.
- 29:58Is what I'm saying. He's like.
- 29:59Different. Like he has this like super in
- 30:02tune senses and all that. He can sell perfume that she's
- 30:04not even wearing that day. OK, what's your favorite quote
- 30:06though? We listed a bunch.
- 30:08Well, I I just have one more. OHK OK.
- 30:11I do wish we could chat longer but I'm having an old friend for
- 30:15dinner, OK? Doctor Lecter.
- 30:19Doctor Roger. Doctor lecture and then you just
- 30:22see Doctor Chilton get off the plane.
- 30:24Such chills when she says it over and over.
- 30:26There was supposed to be an alternate ending where Doctor
- 30:28Chilton was gagged and tied up behind him and he says the exact
- 30:31same line and it works. It works in both.
- 30:34Contexts like this. I like this ending better.
- 30:36He just. Disappears a little bit more
- 30:37ambiguous, but you know, he's gonna get him, yeah.
- 30:39Yeah, What's your favorite quote?
- 30:43My favorite quote is the census. Census taker once tried to test
- 30:47me. I ate his liver with some fava
- 30:49beans and a nice Chianti. That one's really.
- 30:52Good. That's such a good line and he's
- 30:54trying to freak her out, but it doesn't work.
- 30:56I I gotta go with? Well, she great big fat person.
- 30:59He loved that one. OK, so is this movie classic or
- 31:04cancelled? Do you want to go first?
- 31:07Yeah, I'll go first. So a lot of people had some
- 31:11outrage against Catherine, the girl in the pit, for hurting the
- 31:15dog to try to escape from there. I don't blame her.
- 31:20I mean, you're trying to get the hell out cause this guy's gonna
- 31:22turn you into a, you know, Halloween costume.
- 31:24Yeah, she's using the only weapon she could possibly have.
- 31:27I know it tells you a lot about society, like people care more
- 31:30about the poodle of a serial killer than this poor girl who's
- 31:33been kidnapped, who's done nothing wrong to anybody.
- 31:35I mean, the dog didn't do anything either, but I'm sorry.
- 31:39And she takes the dog with her when she's rescued.
- 31:42I think she, she wants to make sure that the dog is going to
- 31:44get the help that the dog needs. She's gonna hurt, Precious, but
- 31:47she had. To think she keeps the dog or
- 31:48she gives it away. I don't know if you'd want to
- 31:50keep something after a traumatic situation like that, but I think
- 31:53she wanted to make sure the dog got helped cause yeah, she had,
- 31:56she had broken the animal's leg. I think it's also just showing
- 31:59that she is very caring and gentle person because she wanted
- 32:02to make sure the dog got help. I don't know if the dog's leg, I
- 32:05don't know if she broke the dogs.
- 32:06Like she never said the dog fell down the pit.
- 32:08She said. I think the dog's leg is broken.
- 32:10She's been licking her paw. I don't think she broke it
- 32:12though, I think. No, she didn't break it, but she
- 32:14dragged the dog into the pit which would have caused the dog
- 32:16to break the legs so. Fair enough.
- 32:18Go ahead, classic or cancelled. So Agent Starling is hit on by
- 32:23most of the men she comes in contact with in this movie.
- 32:27Can you blame him? No, she's really hot.
- 32:30Doctor Lecter, Dr. Chilton, Jack Crawford, the bug doctor at the
- 32:35university. Yeah, she's forced to be polite,
- 32:37and she gently pushes them away like she thanks Doctor Chilton
- 32:41for walking her down to Hannibal cell.
- 32:43Children's the slimiest I. Think yeah, she kind of flirts
- 32:46back a little bit with the bug doctor, even though she's
- 32:48clearly not interested. Yeah, she's just trying to work
- 32:51on her career. That was OK in the 90s.
- 32:55If you acted like that towards a woman today, HR would be up
- 32:58your. Asshole.
- 33:00You would get fired Doctor Chilton, fired bug doctor, fired
- 33:04Jack Crawford, fired Hannibal Lecter. 5 more years on his
- 33:08sentence. Like everyone is such a creep in
- 33:11this movie. But the movie is a classic and
- 33:14it's a story of a girl being a bad ass and catching a killer by
- 33:17relying on her own intelligence and instincts alone.
- 33:21She is such a badass in this. Then she overcomes all of it.
- 33:26Yeah, beautifully. Even when they tell her you're
- 33:29off the case because of the whole fake offer thing to go to
- 33:33Plum Island, she she goes to Hannibal Lecter on her own,
- 33:38brings his drawings, and she keeps getting more information
- 33:41to solve this case. Yeah, she will not be fucked
- 33:43with. Yeah, exactly.
- 33:44So big respect to her. Yeah, really strong female
- 33:47character. I don't think it was OK in the
- 33:4990s to just hit on your coworkers, but I think.
- 33:53No, they show her. More passing, Yeah.
- 33:55People. Yeah, yeah, people were no
- 33:58passes is not the right word. It was more, you know?
- 34:01Like it was more ignored, like the like slapping a secretary on
- 34:04the ass. You can't do that anymore.
- 34:07OHS, I didn't know you were going there, but I don't know
- 34:10the. Maybe you couldn't do that in
- 34:12the 90s either, but in the 50s you.
- 34:13Can I don't know what what decade that was cool, but.
- 34:18In the Mad Men times, in like. The 50s, yeah. 50s and 60s.
- 34:21Smoking indoors. Yeah.
- 34:24Different time for sure. OK.
- 34:26So the next segment is party like it's 2026.
- 34:30Do you have? Do you have anything for?
- 34:31That I'm still trying to figure out this this segment.
- 34:34I'll let you go first. OK so I have a couple of items
- 34:39so one of them is the Hannibal prison.
- 34:41Would be way more high tech. It's pretty low tech when she
- 34:45goes in there, like they have the buzzing doors open and close
- 34:48and everything like that and there's like guards with guns.
- 34:51Yeah. But if it was in 2026 there
- 34:54would be like multi code authentication fingerprint
- 34:58eyeball scans because he's so dangerous.
- 35:01It kind of, it's an old like hospital right, for the
- 35:03criminally insane, but it's kind of makes it more freaky and
- 35:09authentic with the rusty bars and you know, just the brick and
- 35:14stuff like that. Just.
- 35:15Yeah, and the fact that it's down that hallway, it does make
- 35:17it scarier. Yeah, definitely.
- 35:20If it was in 2026, his jail cell, that makeshift jail cell,
- 35:24and like then that building on the 5th floor or whatever, that
- 35:28would have been way more high tech.
- 35:29Like they don't even have a fucking camera in.
- 35:31There, it's a small town. Though Bro put a camera.
- 35:34How much does it cost to put a camera?
- 35:35Yeah, those two cops get slaughtered and nobody even
- 35:38knows about. It it's a small town courthouse,
- 35:40though. It's not even a real jail.
- 35:41Like they didn't even have a real jail for him.
- 35:43Yeah. So they had to just do their
- 35:45best. Well, you got a camera.
- 35:47It's not that hard. Um, so another thing I have is
- 35:51it would be easier to find Buffalo Bill because he would
- 35:54definitely have a very active social media.
- 35:57He would. He'd be like, like me.
- 36:00Would you like me? I'd like me.
- 36:02Yeah, follow, follow me. Yeah, follow your dreams.
- 36:05But also. Me like for like.
- 36:07Yeah, he would have, like, he would have a lot of his fashion
- 36:11online. He probably have a lot of
- 36:12different outfits. He would.
- 36:14He would do the TikTok trends. Yeah, but he would do attack
- 36:17dance whole. Time Do you do the ice bucket
- 36:19challenge? He would get kicked off Tick
- 36:20Tock for being. In a probably ice bucket
- 36:22challenge for ALS awareness. Yeah, so I think he would be
- 36:30easier to find just because they would, like, check out his
- 36:32social media and they'd be like, oh, he posted in front of this
- 36:35like random store that's only in this one town.
- 36:38Yeah, that's true. And lastly, it would be a lot
- 36:43easier to discover Hannibal's lies because all you'd have to
- 36:48do is a quick search on your phone because it keeps giving
- 36:51them fake names. Yeah.
- 36:53You just do a quick search that you'd be like, that's not it.
- 36:55Lewis friend isn't a person. What do you what are you trying
- 36:58to? What are you trying to tell us?
- 37:00I'm sure there's people named Lewis Friend.
- 37:02Yeah, but like, yeah. I I'm sure there is.
- 37:06But well, I just I think it would be easier to.
- 37:08Oh yeah, you. Stop him from fucking with.
- 37:10You you would, you would, you would out him out pretty
- 37:12quickly. But what else you got for 2026?
- 37:16That was it. I got So if this was made in
- 37:192026, they would never show us the killer's face until the end.
- 37:23That's some more of a trend. Now they kind of hide the
- 37:26murderer's face. You'll see the person getting
- 37:28kidnapped, you see them being tortured, but it always never
- 37:32shows their face. And then it might not even show
- 37:34their face at the end. But in this movie, Buffalo Bill
- 37:38is an actual character. Yeah, but we, we have to see him
- 37:41because he is, he's strange. Like he puts on that woman's
- 37:45scalp and dances. Around with it, but they could,
- 37:48they could have done that without showing the killer's
- 37:50face too. Cause that's I noticed that in
- 37:52today's like serial killer movies, they don't show you the
- 37:55killer's face until the end and it keeps that mystery.
- 38:00But now you know. It adds to the horror, though,
- 38:04because he's a real character. You see his face, like the first
- 38:07time we see his face when he pulls up in that van, Yeah, you
- 38:10know, And I was shocked. I was like, oh, like they really
- 38:13just showed his face. Like, OK.
- 38:15Also, this movie be way longer. It would be at least 2 1/2
- 38:19hours. So I was going to say that it
- 38:20would, yeah, it would be much longer.
- 38:22And then now I'm thinking, you know, like it's 2026, we have
- 38:26different actors. So let's say they make this
- 38:28movie. Who plays Clarice?
- 38:31Who plays Buffalo Bill and who plays handball?
- 38:34Oh, you're putting me on the spot.
- 38:35That's fine. So for Hannibal, the first
- 38:39person that came to mind was Jake Gyllenhaal because of
- 38:43Nightcrawler. Yeah, he could do a really good
- 38:45animal. Because of his posture in
- 38:48Nightcrawler. It's a very similar to lectures
- 38:50posture in the cell. I just pictured Jake Gyllenhaal
- 38:54in that blue suit behind the glass.
- 38:56You know who else? Maybe Jared Leto?
- 38:58No, he ruined the Joker. He.
- 39:02No, it would be a different version of Hannibal, but I think
- 39:04he could. Do it.
- 39:05Here's how I know Jake Gyllenhaal would be good if you
- 39:08took Nightcrawlers Jake Gyllenhaal and put white face
- 39:10paint on him. He's the Joker like that because
- 39:15he's terrifying and he's calm, but he says really scary shit to
- 39:20you while being calm. Who plays Buffalo Bill?
- 39:23Who do you think? Ryan Gosling is the only first,
- 39:25second thing. Really.
- 39:27He's too pretty. Putting me on the spot.
- 39:30Ryan Gosling and Starling. That's funny.
- 39:33I don't know. Two birds.
- 39:35Yeah, I don't know. I would say Buffalo Bill, you
- 39:39know, I would do Matthew McConaughey.
- 39:42I would do Matthew McConaughey. He's also pretty.
- 39:44Yeah, but he's played scary before, so in True Detective
- 39:48he's kind of dark. Yeah, he's pretty gross and.
- 39:50True Killer Joe. Killer Joe, he's terrifying in
- 39:53that. So I think he'd be good as
- 39:56Buffalo Bill. He's still, he doesn't look too
- 39:59old and he's got, you know, a long hair that he could kind of
- 40:04cover up some of his face to hide the age.
- 40:07But who plays Clarice? And don't say Sydney Sweeney.
- 40:11No, Sydney Sweeney couldn't play this role.
- 40:13I was honestly thinking maybe like Sadie Sink.
- 40:17Ohhhhh maybe oht. Yeah, she's very like, you know,
- 40:20small and just very reserved. And she's also very pretty like
- 40:25she could probably, but it's more of a like down, like a a
- 40:28downplayed pretty. She could probably do it.
- 40:30I think, and I'm not a huge fan of hers, but I think she would
- 40:35do well because she comes off as, you know, she could come off
- 40:39as bitchy and strong, but also very small.
- 40:42And she did a really good job in that movie that we just watched
- 40:45the based on the true kidnapper guy.
- 40:49But it's Anna Kendrick I think should be alright as Starling.
- 40:53OK, she's a little bit old to be.
- 40:54Starting the name of that movie. Woman of the Hour.
- 40:57Yeah, woman of the hour. Yeah, she was.
- 40:59That was a good. Mood.
- 41:00She was tough in that movie, but she was also like, you could
- 41:02tell she was vulnerable. So she gives me a little bit of
- 41:05a Starling vibes. Yeah, she could, but I think
- 41:07she's a little bit too old to play a a A student now.
- 41:11You just put some makeup. She's in her, she's in her mid
- 41:1330s. So can you watch this with your
- 41:16parents? It's it depends on the parents.
- 41:22It would be pretty uncomfortable because of I think Buffalo Bill
- 41:26is a very sexual character. Well, I said yes.
- 41:28Everything is good except the tuck dance.
- 41:31Super awkward. The tuck dance, he also like
- 41:33sews naked and when he's touching his nipples like he's
- 41:36very, he's very sexual. The whole sequence is touching
- 41:39nipples and tuck dance so. Yeah, so that just the Buffalo
- 41:42Bill character makes it a little awkward.
- 41:45Yeah, little awkward. Very awkward.
- 41:47Yeah. Favorite and least favorite
- 41:51supporting character? Where you got?
- 41:53So for favorite I actually chose Ardelia Map, who is Clarissa's
- 41:59BFF. OK at school that's.
- 42:02That's a deep cut. OK, yeah, I chose her because
- 42:05she is. She's a good friend.
- 42:08When she hears that Hannibal had escaped, it shows her sprinting
- 42:11across campus to warn Clarise, and she also is the one who
- 42:16brainstorms with her when she makes the breakthrough about the
- 42:20fact that he covets. So he must know the girl in real
- 42:23life. He must be a local.
- 42:24Oh yeah. So she actually helps solve the
- 42:27case and she's cheering her on. And it also, it just like adds
- 42:32to that sisterhood, the camaraderie of these two women
- 42:35being at the school that's so heavily men.
- 42:38So I like this. She has that ally. 1st girl
- 42:41taken third body. Found.
- 42:43Why? Well, she didn't drift.
- 42:45He waited her down. What did Lecter say about the
- 42:47first principles? Simplicity.
- 42:51What does this guy do? He covets.
- 42:54How do we first start to covet? We cover what we see every day.
- 43:02That damn Clarisse ain't no. Nice, I have a controversial pic
- 43:08and you're going to judge me for it.
- 43:09But my favorite supporting character, and I put supporting
- 43:13in quotations because it's Hannibal.
- 43:18He's on the screen for less than 25 minutes.
- 43:22Yeah, babe, Draco Malfoy is in each of the Harry Potter movies
- 43:26for less than 5 minutes. Alright, fine, that's a
- 43:28supporting. Character Hannibal is a main.
- 43:31Character and I'll pick somebody else.
- 43:33I'm gonna say Doctor, Children. As your favorite.
- 43:37Supporting. Yeah, everyone.
- 43:38Else. There's not that many supporting
- 43:40characters. Jack Crawford, It's it's gotta
- 43:44be Chilton. Chilton, you know what he's
- 43:47about. He's trying to get ahead.
- 43:49He's a bit of a scumbag, you know, and he's a Dick to
- 43:53Hannibal Lecter. And he's a really good
- 43:55character. Like he, he's a very good
- 43:58character. He's well thought.
- 43:59Out, but I don't like him. You don't have to like him.
- 44:01He's just he's a good supporting character.
- 44:04I can't pick Hannibal because you won't let me.
- 44:06But least favorite is gonna be Jack Crawford.
- 44:09I fucking hate this guy. Seems, Yeah, Scott Glenn's
- 44:12character. First of all, he's terrible at
- 44:14his job. This guy rolls the dice with her
- 44:17life, basically, and her career, making up a phony offer to
- 44:22Lecter to help the the FBI catch Buffalo Bill.
- 44:25And then when it falls through, he's just like I had to roll.
- 44:28The dice like. Ohm Sharks.
- 44:30Yeah, like you could have actually called the senator.
- 44:33In the book they they're both kicked off the case.
- 44:36They're kicked off the case in the movie.
- 44:38Too, Yeah, but in the book it's like they have a court hearing
- 44:40and everything. It's really serious.
- 44:42And then Lecter roast them about it.
- 44:43Who's your least favorite? You said I picked him as well,
- 44:46but it's because he railroads clarise a few times in the scene
- 44:50or in the movie. He doesn't tell her that she's
- 44:53going to Hannibal to find out about the Buffalo Bill case.
- 44:57He lets her wait outside when they arrive at the coroner,
- 45:01basically agreeing with the other police officer that they
- 45:03shouldn't speak about this in front of a woman.
- 45:05Yeah. And he notes later he's like,
- 45:07that really burned you away. And she's like, yeah, because
- 45:10you're showing everybody that they should just dismiss me as a
- 45:13woman. And he is on his way to
- 45:16apprehend Buffalo Bill in Illinois, and he doesn't even
- 45:19tell her she finds out because she calls him about her break in
- 45:24the case. Yeah, it's.
- 45:26He basically gives her a pat on the back and he's like, we would
- 45:28never would have gotten here without you.
- 45:30And she like almost cries because she's like, you just
- 45:32completely are boxing me out. Thank you.
- 45:34He's really bad at his job. He well, not only that, but he
- 45:38he railroads her over and over again.
- 45:39He doesn't give her her due. I don't like it.
- 45:42Fuck that. Guy and he's like, your father
- 45:44would be really proud of you. It's like bro, you did nothing.
- 45:48No, at the end he's all me. At the end he's like Congrats,
- 45:50but I don't want to be here. He sucks.
- 45:52Yeah, he does suck. Thank you.
- 45:55I appreciate your opinion on that.
- 45:59Fuck, Jack offered. Yeah, I agree.
- 46:01Cultural impact. So this movie really put true
- 46:06crime in serial killers on the map as entertainment?
- 46:09Yes, because before this that wasn't really that much of a
- 46:12thing. We wouldn't have all the crime
- 46:15thriller shows and movies today if it weren't for Silence of the
- 46:18Lambs. Like stuff like Mindhunter,
- 46:20Criminal Minds, and Seven wouldn't would not exist without
- 46:24this movie. This movie paved the way, but it
- 46:26also has aged. Well, it's aged well and it did.
- 46:29It did start the the modern crime thriller.
- 46:33Yeah, and and as you said before, it's the first horror
- 46:35film to win the Big 5, Best Picture, Best Director, best
- 46:39Actor, Best Actress and best Screenplay.
- 46:42So it legitimized psychological thrillers as high art as opposed
- 46:47to just popcorn movies. I love it because of the spoofs
- 46:50and the memes. So many Buffalo.
- 46:52Bill memes, Yeah. And my favorite is still the
- 46:54Bath and Body works one when your girls at Bath and body
- 46:58works and she's taking too long basket fucking amazing.
- 47:03I I said that similar thing about the Speed podcast, but
- 47:06there are sorry, yeah, in the speed podcast, but there's a
- 47:09South Park episode, yeah, that parodies this movie That's so
- 47:14good. So the boys teepee a house and
- 47:17the cop in the town goes to talk to a kid at juvie who was like a
- 47:21professional T peer and he is a he's Hannibal, OK.
- 47:25He's like the boy is almost a most likely 8 to 12 years old
- 47:29and probably virgins. It's so good. 8 to 12 Yeah, they
- 47:35better be virgins. Yeah, it's it's, it's really
- 47:37good. OK, soundtrack, what are you
- 47:39saying? So the soundtrack of this movie,
- 47:42it feels emotional. It feels like it emotionally
- 47:47takes us on the on the journey with Clarice.
- 47:51It's a little bit spooky. Yeah.
- 47:53It's, it's mournful. Yeah, I find it eerie and like
- 47:57it gives you the detective vibes.
- 48:00Yeah, it, it has like that detective noir feel.
- 48:03Yeah. And the movie it's, it is a
- 48:06little bit gloomy. Like there's not a lot of
- 48:08sunshine in this movie. And it kind of goes with the
- 48:10soundtrack of being a little bit a little bit gloomy.
- 48:13Like it feels like the fall. Yeah, I find it sucks you in
- 48:16right into the movie, especially when she's Clarissa is running
- 48:20in the opening credits and the theme is playing and it's scary,
- 48:25but it's also like, you know, where are we going with this?
- 48:28It's like really like such a good opening and I think it wins
- 48:33the all time winner for a song you can't play anymore.
- 48:37Goodbye horses. You cannot play that anywhere
- 48:40without someone in the room mimicking.
- 48:44Yeah. Buffalo Bills tuck dance.
- 48:47Like they probably won't tuck their shit in and dance, but
- 48:50they'll do his moves too with a little like scarf or shawl on
- 48:54their shoulders. Goodbye horses.
- 48:59Yeah, there's, there's, there's a lot of songs that have been
- 49:02tied to movies, but this one is. Probably this one eliminated
- 49:06plays for that. Song.
- 49:07It ruined the song. Yeah, because it.
- 49:09Yeah, because the sound like everybody's playing that at a
- 49:11bar or at a party. Can you imagine that at a
- 49:14birthday party? Just no.
- 49:17I mean, if they've never seen the movie, maybe they wouldn't
- 49:19be as disturbed. But yeah, it's it's pretty
- 49:21messed up. So who gets to spin off?
- 49:24Done, but I want a Hannibal spinoff.
- 49:28He's such an interesting character.
- 49:31I want a prequel of him working as a therapist.
- 49:34Yeah, and evolving into this hyperintelligent, violent,
- 49:37extremely, extremely dangerous murderer.
- 49:40He's so dangerous. He's not allowed to be around
- 49:42other people. He can't be around a nurse
- 49:44without them, without mutilating them.
- 49:46But he used to just be a member of society.
- 49:49I want to see him as a normal person before this all.
- 49:52Happened they had so they had Red Dragon, which was a prequel,
- 49:55but that was also he was already captured and then they had the
- 50:00show Hannibal. It was amazing with Mad
- 50:03Mickelson. Yeah, it's the show cause he is
- 50:05the therapist in the show. But I like I, I wanna, I want
- 50:08even more inspection of him as a character.
- 50:11Like I want it based on him. Can't the Hannibal show was not
- 50:14based. On him, well, there was a book
- 50:15called Hannibal Rising and they made a movie of it and it was
- 50:18really bad. It was him like with his sister,
- 50:23think they're from Lithuania and all the stuff that happens to
- 50:27him and why he becomes the way he is.
- 50:28But yeah, I got Buffalo Bill prequel.
- 50:32I want to see a 10 episode special like miniseries on
- 50:37Buffalo Bill before he gets his first kill or right after he
- 50:42gets his first kill. Because that character, there's
- 50:45so much I wanna know about him. Like it?
- 50:48Would be sad though. There's more.
- 50:49Yeah, it would show. Him.
- 50:50I didn't say it would be fun. I'm just I wanna know more about
- 50:53him. There's more in the book.
- 50:55Like the reason his name isn't James, it's Jane.
- 50:58Because in the book it says his mom just forgot to put the ass
- 51:03so he's Jane Gum. Like you're gonna become a
- 51:06serial killer with that name. Jane.
- 51:08It would be sad though because he struggles with mental health
- 51:11and sexual identity cause Lecter says he probably got rejected
- 51:15for sexual reassignment cause he doesn't even know what he is.
- 51:18He's just self loathing. Oh yeah, doesn't mean it
- 51:21wouldn't make a good prequel show.
- 51:22Yeah, but it would be sad because you'd have to see him
- 51:24struggle and then subsequently become violent because of it.
- 51:28Double feature, What do you got? So Red dragon, obviously.
- 51:32Oh really? It's so good, so I zigged this
- 51:35one instead of zagging. I am, I said, alive.
- 51:41The Cannibal You're 5 cannibalism double feature.
- 51:46I I actually I do have something else also besides Red Dragon.
- 51:51I felt like a girl with the Dragon Tattoo would go with
- 51:55this. Yeah, it would.
- 51:56It's a very similar vibe. Yeah, it's another crime drama,
- 51:59but it's like a different flavor.
- 52:01It's like the which? It's in the winter version.
- 52:02This is the fall version. That's true, but.
- 52:04You're you're cannibalism. One with alive.
- 52:07It's cannibalism double feature. That's fucking dark.
- 52:09I mean, honestly, what? Like when I thought of it, I'm
- 52:14like, you know what? Imagine if Hannibal Lecter was
- 52:18on that plane in the live. I mean, that's based on a real
- 52:20event. You'd be living.
- 52:21For no, but imagine he was there.
- 52:23He would like this guy would fucking he would marinade some
- 52:27shit for these guys, like he would be cutting up people's ass
- 52:30cheeks and like frying them and like fucking sauteeing them.
- 52:35And those guys, they probably be like it's not a big deal if we
- 52:38don't get saved anytime soon. This guy's cooking up a storm.
- 52:41You know, just don't eat my sister.
- 52:43You. I'm just saying they're eating
- 52:46ass cheeks in that movie. Or they.
- 52:48Yeah, in real life IRL guy. That seems like the last thing
- 52:53you'd want to eat because of. OK, let's move on.
- 52:58What are you gonna eat? What was the first thing?
- 53:00I'm trying to think what would be the cleanest part of the
- 53:02body. I don't even know.
- 53:03I mean, you could, you could have some thigh.
- 53:05The boobs maybe? Some thigh maybe.
- 53:07There's It's all muscles, all prototypes.
- 53:09Boobs don't have any protein, it's just fucking jello.
- 53:14I don't want to think about it be so grilling.
- 53:16Everything would smell like Bo. I don't want to get into it.
- 53:19Hey, you gotta eat or you die. OK, so this is a new segment
- 53:24that we thought of. It's called Laughing at a
- 53:25Funeral, and basically it's parts of the movie that make you
- 53:30laugh, but you probably shouldn't be laughing.
- 53:33Yeah, they're not funny, but we're sick.
- 53:35No, they are funny, but you shouldn't be laughing.
- 53:38But it's still funny. So what do you got?
- 53:41I got. I mean, did you want to go
- 53:43first? Yeah, so I obviously have.
- 53:46Was she a great big fat person? Because that's like an inside
- 53:49joke in our house. Like we always say that and
- 53:51like, make jokes about it because it's so awkward the way
- 53:54he says. It Yeah.
- 53:55So like when you were pregnant, I just imagined I, I gave this
- 54:00scenario where you're pregnant and you you're working and then
- 54:04all of a sudden you go on mat leave, right?
- 54:05And they go, oh, what happened to her?
- 54:07What happened to her? She's not here anymore.
- 54:09And then who are you talking about?
- 54:10Was she a great big fat person? It's like, yeah, she was
- 54:13pregnant. Oh OK, so yeah, I got I can
- 54:18smell your cunt. That part is, every time I watch
- 54:23it, I cannot stop laughing. I can't.
- 54:25I don't find that part funny. Because he's like, he's like
- 54:28crawling up on the, on the bars following her.
- 54:31And then he he kind of hisses it at her.
- 54:36Sir, are you both a size 14? Obviously put the lotion in the
- 54:41basket and the tuck dance. I can't stop laughing at the
- 54:44tuck dance. It's so do you know he had to
- 54:46take a couple shots of tequila before he did that?
- 54:50Or was it whiskey, anyway? He improvised that, yeah, but
- 54:54he's not even in the script. Yeah, but he the tuck dance is
- 54:58in the in the book, it's in the. Book I read that he improvised
- 55:02that. I don't know which party.
- 55:04And the film makers loved it so much that they kept it in.
- 55:07I don't know, but they're probably like.
- 55:09He was already doing a dance naked, but he wasn't supposed to
- 55:12tuck his penis in. Oh, that was improvised.
- 55:14That was improvised. Very clever and disturbing.
- 55:17But he had to take a shot of alcohol before he did that to
- 55:21loosen up. Yeah, I'm not surprised he's
- 55:24naked. He's not even wearing underwear
- 55:25like he's naked. Fucking Ted Levine, such a
- 55:28fucking iconic actor. Yeah, I also have one Buffalo
- 55:32Bills monotone screaming at Catherine while she's in the
- 55:35pit. She starts screaming and he
- 55:37goes. Ohhhhh ohhhhh that's fucked.
- 55:42That's really cause he's he's, he's mocking her, her cries.
- 55:46Is he mocking her? Is he trying to like?
- 55:49What? Is he like trying to release
- 55:51nervous energy because he feels fucking weird about it?
- 55:54I think he's mocking her. This is gonna sound weird, but
- 55:58sometimes our kids, they just cry over nothing.
- 56:01Like they make the salon face, you know, And then I just go,
- 56:09oh, you know, because you're just mocking them cause it's
- 56:13crocodile deer. It's not real.
- 56:15Yeah, it doesn't work with the baby, obviously, but our
- 56:17toddler, like if you do it to him, sometimes he realizes he's
- 56:19being ridiculous and he stops. Yeah, but I do like to tease the
- 56:23baby. If I put her down and she starts
- 56:24screaming, I go, Oh my God, I almost like you 9.
- 56:28And I was like going. But yeah, I've honestly laughing
- 56:32at a funeral this section. I put your brother here again,
- 56:35laughing at the brutal baton killing.
- 56:37Just like, bro, what the fuck are you laughing at?
- 56:39Why are you laughing so hard? Also the cop when he right
- 56:44before he gets hit with the baton.
- 56:46This ah. It's so funny.
- 57:04I OK. Yeah, he screams, because he
- 57:06knows. He's know, he's like, it's the
- 57:10acting I can't take. It too acting, but it is like it
- 57:14is kind of. Over the top.
- 57:15It's over the top. Yeah, it's it's over the top.
- 57:19OK, lazy Sunday vibes. You wanna go first?
- 57:22Yeah, I said yes. Honestly, eating a nice
- 57:25breakfast while this movie starts with the opening
- 57:28sequence. With with some with some rare
- 57:30meat with that breakfast just juice is running.
- 57:33What do you think I am sick? No, no, just some eggs, some
- 57:36home fries. And then by the time your
- 57:38coffee, you take your first sip of your coffee, the opening
- 57:41credits finish. Oh, it's this movie slaps so
- 57:44hard. Yeah, I said, for me, it's a
- 57:47lazy Sunday as well. It has that familiarity for me.
- 57:51And it's also one of those movies where each scene is so
- 57:54good that you could watch them on their own.
- 57:56So if you have to run out on a Sunday or whatever, if you just
- 57:59watch the first scene with Clarice and Hannibal, you're
- 58:02good. Or, or the scene with Hannibal
- 58:04in the Memphis Cage inside the courthouse.
- 58:07Or where she, like, finds Buffalo Bill.
- 58:09You just watch. That one any scene.
- 58:12Literally, there's so many scenes that stand for themselves
- 58:15in this movie that you can watch it passively and just focus on a
- 58:17scene or two, and then you can, you know, leave without
- 58:20finishing it. And because it has that
- 58:22familiarity, it feels like a lazy Sunday movie to me.
- 58:25Yeah, I didn't think you would say yes.
- 58:27So this is late Sunday, but. It's because it's so familiar.
- 58:30Yeah, OK. Movie alias.
- 58:33I have Clarice. The the movie is called Clarice.
- 58:37Is called Clarice. OK.
- 58:39Hannibal the Cannibal, but that wouldn't really make sense
- 58:43because it's not about him. Yeah, that's.
- 58:45True this the case are solving is about him.
- 58:46I just like the rhyming of Hannibal the Cannibal and then
- 58:50the Skinner. Skinner is not bad.
- 58:53Yeah, Skinner. I've got Buffalo Bill.
- 58:59Oh yeah, didn't even think. That's about him killing people.
- 59:02Quid pro quo? Ohio.
- 59:06I mean, that one's kind of weird.
- 59:07I, I don't think people are gonna, you know, go see it.
- 59:10The screaming of the Lambs instead of the Silence of the
- 59:14Lambs, because that's what scares her.
- 59:17But she hears the screaming. And then I just thought of a
- 59:21funny one. Liver, laugh, love, you know.
- 59:25Oh my God. Just just for the for the walls.
- 59:27That's so ridiculous. OK, shower thoughts I I have a
- 59:32lot. Yeah, me too.
- 59:34So go ahead if you want to go first.
- 59:37So the famous line? Hello Clarice.
- 59:41Anthony Hopkins never actually says that in the movie.
- 59:44No. The line is good evening,
- 59:46Clarice, but it's been bastardized.
- 59:49It's in the book. Hello Clarice is in the book.
- 59:51Oh, OK, yeah, because like everybody quotes that like that
- 59:54never happens. Yeah, in the movie, it's Good
- 59:57evening, Gladys. Yeah, that's what it is.
- 59:59Which is honestly better I think.
- 1:00:02So this movie, the first time you see Lecter in a movie on
- 1:00:08screen was the movie Manhunter 1986.
- 1:00:12It's based on Red Dragon and Lecter was played by Brian Cox.
- 1:00:18It was directed by Michael Mann and it was remade later with
- 1:00:22Anthony Hopkins and Edward Norton and Ray Fines.
- 1:00:26But fun fact, when Brian Cox was playing Hannibal Lecter in
- 1:00:30Manhunter, Anthony Hopkins was performing as King Lear on
- 1:00:34stage. And then when Anthony Hopkins
- 1:00:37was playing Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs, Brian Cox
- 1:00:41was performing as King Lear on stage.
- 1:00:43Ohm, how weird. Yeah, they're like counterparts.
- 1:00:45Yeah, exactly. Hannibal calls Clarise.
- 1:00:49Clever girl, just just like Muldoon in Drastic Park with the
- 1:00:53with the Raptors. Clever go.
- 1:00:55Clever girl. George Costanza's boss, Krueger
- 1:00:59is on the SWAT team. Yeah, he is.
- 1:01:03Whatever he's like, that mole looks the same as it did 10
- 1:01:07years ago when I took that photo.
- 1:01:10So it's probably fine. Whatever.
- 1:01:13So why does Hannibal say the toughen your nipples line to
- 1:01:20Senator Martin and gamble his deal?
- 1:01:23Are you stupid? I mean.
- 1:01:25He does he not care about the deal.
- 1:01:27He says he wants a view and you're fucking talking about her
- 1:01:29nipples. He's a manipulator.
- 1:01:31This senator is desperate and he knows he has information.
- 1:01:36He knows who Buffalo Bill is, but he won't give it up.
- 1:01:39He tells them everything about him is.
- 1:01:41Description Why is he so annoying about them?
- 1:01:43Just tell them for fucks sake, what's your problem?
- 1:01:47Well, he said to Clarice. She's like, he's like, I've been
- 1:01:51waiting. How long can you wait?
- 1:01:53You know he's been in the cell for eight years.
- 1:01:55Well, it's fucking annoying. Like, I get it, you don't wanna
- 1:01:57live, really cooperate with law enforcement, you're in jail.
- 1:02:01But like, fuck you, you know who he is, and there's a manhunt and
- 1:02:04there's a woman's life in the balance.
- 1:02:06Yeah. Well, he be a person about it,
- 1:02:08be a human. He's psychopath killer.
- 1:02:11Pure psychopath. I know, but there's like there's
- 1:02:14been other cases where psychos have helped solve cases and this
- 1:02:18guy. Just pure psychopath.
- 1:02:20He's the worst. I imagine these characters in
- 1:02:23different movies. So I was like, what's the most
- 1:02:26ridiculous situation you could find these characters in?
- 1:02:28So Buffalo Bill in The Devil Wears Prada Jane Gum finally
- 1:02:35gets that career in fashion he's been dreaming of, but he has to
- 1:02:38answer to Miranda Priestly, so he's trying to like, present his
- 1:02:43natural fibre collection. And Miranda's unimpressed.
- 1:02:46So she calls the Fashion Police. Ohhhhh God Hannibal Lecters and
- 1:02:50Mean Girls so he. Regina George's tummy time.
- 1:02:55She just destroys herself Esteem.
- 1:02:57So he's a new transfer student from Lithuania and he's
- 1:03:00immediately recruited by the Plastics, but Regina George
- 1:03:03tries to bully him, but Hannibal begins psychologically
- 1:03:06dismantling her entire entire social hierarchy of the whole
- 1:03:10high school. By lunchtime words clarise being
- 1:03:15in Legally Blonde she to go further undercover.
- 1:03:19She transfers from the FBI Academy to Harvard and to join
- 1:03:23Elwood's inner circle, Claire. He's trying to explain
- 1:03:27psychological profile of a serial killer while Paulette
- 1:03:30tries to teach her the bend and snap.
- 1:03:37That's pretty good. It's pretty unbelievable that
- 1:03:41Hannibal puts someone else's face on top of his face and no
- 1:03:44one noticed there's a cop that gets like nose to nose with him.
- 1:03:49Yeah, so. When they show.
- 1:03:50How much and they show. The first time I watched it I
- 1:03:53was blown away. Two officers down.
- 1:03:59Flickers guard search. Personers missing.
- 1:04:02Who else? Gun is gone, Sergeant.
- 1:04:04Repeat letters. Missing hand, arm.
- 1:04:06He stripped the bed. Might be making a rope.
- 1:04:09Check all windows. Where the fuck is my ambulance?
- 1:04:16Sergeant Tate, he's alive. Get a hold of morning, feel his
- 1:04:20hands so talk to him. Say.
- 1:04:23There's Jim Palmer now, talk to him to have it.
- 1:04:25But then the second time you watch it, it's painfully obvious
- 1:04:29that that's Anthony Hopkins face and he's laying down in the
- 1:04:33police uniform. None of the EMT's noticed.
- 1:04:35They put like they put an oxygen mask on him and you don't notice
- 1:04:39that he has a face over his face.
- 1:04:41Yeah. That's a pretty unbelievable.
- 1:04:43But the first time you watch it, you don't know that that's him
- 1:04:47unless you are guessing. But you, you honestly, nobody
- 1:04:51knew that's true. Funny little detail about that.
- 1:04:54So when Clarice goes to meet Hannibal the first time, Doctor
- 1:04:59Chilton tells Clarice that, you know, when what he did to that,
- 1:05:02like that nurse, he bit her face off and his pulse never got
- 1:05:06above 85. When later in the ambulance,
- 1:05:11when he's escaping and he's wearing that cop's face, the
- 1:05:16paramedic is reporting his pulse at 84 right before he gets up
- 1:05:21and kills him. Oh, shit.
- 1:05:23Like this guy is calm and he's collected and he could control
- 1:05:28everything. About him doesn't get excited
- 1:05:29when he's. Doing exactly It's freaky.
- 1:05:32Um, so the last thing I have is the inspiration for Buffalo
- 1:05:38Bill. OK, He is a composite character
- 1:05:41based on three real life serial killers.
- 1:05:44Ed Gein for the skinning of the victims, Ted Bundy for using a
- 1:05:49cast to lure victims, and Gary Heidnik for holding victims in a
- 1:05:55basement pit. So he's a combination of those 3
- 1:05:58serial killers because of the tactics and murder he uses.
- 1:06:03That's freaking crazy. Yeah.
- 1:06:05So he is based on three real people.
- 1:06:07So one last thing from me, and I noticed this only this time
- 1:06:13watching that recently and I've seen this movie more than a
- 1:06:16dozen times. When Clarice is doing her FBI
- 1:06:20training, what does what mistake does she make?
- 1:06:23Do you remember? She doesn't check the corner.
- 1:06:25Right, so she forgets to check the corners.
- 1:06:29When she enters Buffalo Bills house there's a large painting
- 1:06:34of a butterfly in the corner right behind and the camera pans
- 1:06:39to it but she doesn't check her corner.
- 1:06:42So had she had checked that she would had way more time to
- 1:06:46react. But she eventually clues in and
- 1:06:50she sees like, you know, the Moss flying around.
- 1:06:52She sees the threads. For the clothes, she puts two
- 1:06:55and two together. Yeah, but had she saw the
- 1:06:57butterfly painting, she would have reacted way sooner.
- 1:07:01Also, she goes in and she goes into the basement and she's
- 1:07:07again not checking her corners. I did notice that she doesn't
- 1:07:10really check her corners. I will just say, though, that
- 1:07:13this, the whole basement scene and her catching the killer is
- 1:07:17so satisfying because when she calls Jack, she's really bummed
- 1:07:21out that they're going to apprehend Buffalo Bill without
- 1:07:23her after she's done all this work.
- 1:07:25So she is the one that gets to apprehend him.
- 1:07:28And that is like such a girl power moment.
- 1:07:30Like, even though it's scary, she's alone.
- 1:07:32She needs to, you know, rely on her instincts and go through
- 1:07:35this house and catch him like that.
- 1:07:38This is what we wanted. We wanted to see Clarice get in.
- 1:07:41This is her case. What?
- 1:07:43What movie does multiple Miggs transfer to?
- 1:07:47Like if he had to be in another unit movie universe.
- 1:07:51I don't know, hopefully Saw and he gets destroyed.
- 1:07:54OK, I'm thinking like maybe he's like a Marvel Marvel movie and
- 1:07:59he just his power is to just throw jizz at.
- 1:08:02People. Yeah, that's not a power, that's
- 1:08:05an. Assault like what kind of the
- 1:08:08how did, how do you think they made that like?
- 1:08:11The semen. The fake semen.
- 1:08:13Yeah, I think it's lotion because it looks, it looks so
- 1:08:15real. It looks real, but also how many
- 1:08:21tests did they Do you know what I.
- 1:08:22Mean, I think I think it's. That guy has some fucking aim
- 1:08:26but he threw that at her from like 6 feet away.
- 1:08:29She cause if you watch the the the clip again, she's on the
- 1:08:32other side of the the hall. She's walking up against the
- 1:08:35walls and he's like, he just chucks it and just smokes are
- 1:08:38right in the face. I bit my wrist so I could die.
- 1:08:47Look at the blood God you stupid fuck.
- 1:08:57After the I can smell your cunt. Why would she linger outside his
- 1:09:02cage? Walk past quickly with your head
- 1:09:06down? He's a creep, yeah.
- 1:09:09I'm sorry, it's just that line is ridiculous.
- 1:09:12And I hope like after that scene we got thrown on her.
- 1:09:14I hope she went to the bathroom and just did like a like a
- 1:09:18doctor level D sanitizing because she goes outside and
- 1:09:22touches her face after. Yeah.
- 1:09:24Do you think that guy got typecast?
- 1:09:26I don't know. I don't know because I don't
- 1:09:28even know what else he's. Also, what did Lecter say to him
- 1:09:30that made him kill himself? And by the way, you can't, he
- 1:09:34can't swallow your tongue. You know, we looked that up.
- 1:09:36Yeah, he's psychologically dressed him down to the point
- 1:09:39where he couldn't live. I don't.
- 1:09:40Know maybe he just kept talking him because like, this guy won't
- 1:09:43shut the fuck up. No, he obviously said some
- 1:09:46things that really disturbed him, but.
- 1:09:48Yeah, can we just talk about Ted Levine for a second?
- 1:09:52This guy needs to get his flowers.
- 1:09:54Buffalo Bills actor. OK, so the next time I saw him
- 1:09:58was that I remember was Shutter Island.
- 1:10:02He's the warden of the the hospital, which is a really cool
- 1:10:08nod because he plays a mentally ill person in this serial killer
- 1:10:13and he's the ward. Do you remember him as the
- 1:10:14Warden? No, I didn't even know that.
- 1:10:16Was the same, yeah. He's the warden in that he's in
- 1:10:18heat. He's one of the police.
- 1:10:20I think he's the police captain because I didn't realize it was
- 1:10:24him until I heard his divorce. He's like, OK, so Robert comes
- 1:10:29out of the truck Bang, Bang, bang with his deep voice.
- 1:10:33And then also he's uncredited, but he's in the movie Joyride.
- 1:10:38He plays the trucker Rusty Nail. Yeah.
- 1:10:42And I was watching the movie years later, like, that's a
- 1:10:46great movie, We should review that.
- 1:10:47But yeah, we will. I'm watching it and I'm like,
- 1:10:50that's fucking Ted Levine's voice.
- 1:10:52That's Buffalo Bill. And then you watch the credits
- 1:10:56and doesn't say it. There's no.
- 1:11:00And then I looked it up. I I had to do a deep dive and it
- 1:11:03says that he played Rusty Nail and he was not like he
- 1:11:07unaccredited. He did not want the credit.
- 1:11:10So they kept it. I guess they wanted to keep it
- 1:11:12more mysterious. But if you know his voice, it's
- 1:11:15it's unmistaken. It is obviously can't decane.
- 1:11:19Yeah, Curd Currane, This is Rusty Nail.
- 1:11:23Anybody seen Candy Cane shoot rubber fibers and.
- 1:11:29Is it? It's currently caring about a
- 1:11:34size 14. He's a kidding.
- 1:11:36He's a dude, my guy. So does this movie hit different
- 1:11:41as a parent? It it hits different as a parent
- 1:11:47a little bit, not that much. Oh I have it.
- 1:11:51It heavily did for me. Yeah, for me, it didn't really
- 1:11:55hit different as a parent this time because yes, there's a
- 1:11:59girl, she gets kidnapped, You know, they show a dead body on
- 1:12:03the slab, basically, and they're investigating a couple of dead
- 1:12:06bodies. I don't know.
- 1:12:09I just this movie, it's in my brain now.
- 1:12:15It's complete fiction. I cannot connect it with reality
- 1:12:19at all, even though it's such a great movie and a lot of the
- 1:12:23details are based on, you know, real people and real crimes and
- 1:12:29these things happen. But for some reason it's just
- 1:12:33complete fiction in my brain. I can't.
- 1:12:36Maybe it's a mental block or but I think it's just the, the, the
- 1:12:39people eating people and stuff. It's just.
- 1:12:42Well, it it got me in the gut a couple times.
- 1:12:45When Senator Ruth Martin is begging for her daughter's life,
- 1:12:48it shows pictures of her as a girl and baby.
- 1:12:51Yeah, and that effed me up, especially as someone with a
- 1:12:55baby girl. Yeah, I don't know why it didn't
- 1:12:58affect me this. Time I really got well, it
- 1:12:59showed her as a baby and I was like, I was like, Oh no, no, no,
- 1:13:01I can't handle that. I can't handle that.
- 1:13:03And then also when Catherine is crying for her mom in the pitch,
- 1:13:06like I want my mommy. I was like, Nope.
- 1:13:10My mom instinct kicked in. I just wanted to hug her and get
- 1:13:13her out of that that. That's tough and your nipples,
- 1:13:15didn't it? That's somebody's baby.
- 1:13:16Yeah, that also is fucked. That's somebody's baby that got
- 1:13:20kidnapped. That's horrible.
- 1:13:21And then also Clarisse recalling her childhood.
- 1:13:26She lived with her single father and loved him so much, and then
- 1:13:30he dies on duty. It's a really sad back story.
- 1:13:34That part got me a bit because when she imagines running to her
- 1:13:38dad after Miggs throws the jizz at her.
- 1:13:41Yeah, and then she sobs by her car.
- 1:13:42Sold by her car cause she remembers her dad coming home
- 1:13:45from work and she just kind of sneaking up on him.
- 1:13:48Daddy, daddy, she kept me bad guys today.
- 1:13:52But I also, I don't like that she says the rancher sent her to
- 1:13:55an orphanage after the lamb incident because he was angry.
- 1:14:00That was her cousin that she was living with after her father
- 1:14:04passed away and she acted out once and he sent her to a
- 1:14:08fucking orphanage. That's a little bit of an
- 1:14:11overreaction, I'd say. Yeah, she calls him a decent man
- 1:14:14when Hannibal asks if he sodomized her.
- 1:14:16Like that's not a decent man. Decent is in like he doesn't
- 1:14:19sexually assault her. He could have been.
- 1:14:21A day if I trusted my child with a relative and he fucking and
- 1:14:25that relative sent my child to an orphanage after I died, I
- 1:14:29would haunt that motherfucker. Yeah, you become best sheba.
- 1:14:33Literally I would ruin their afterlife.
- 1:14:36By Shiva. I would go to their little lamb
- 1:14:39farm and every lamb would be like speaking their name,
- 1:14:42whispering. Every.
- 1:14:42Every time. Yeah, I would fuck their.
- 1:14:44Life. I'd be the movie The witch
- 1:14:47straight up the goat. Don't send my kid to an
- 1:14:49orphanage, you piece of shit. You got trusted with my kid.
- 1:14:51You sent her to an orphanage? No, no, not OK.
- 1:14:55Don't tell my kid to an orphanage.
- 1:14:56I'll kill you. Put the fucking lotion in the
- 1:14:58basket. Alright, data, I actually have a
- 1:15:03rating system for this time. Shoot, how many lotions in the
- 1:15:07basket do you give this movie? Um, I give this movie 9 lotions
- 1:15:15in the basket. I give this movie 8 lotions in
- 1:15:19the basket out of 10. Eight.
- 1:15:21Wow. OK.
- 1:15:22It's very good. Yeah.
- 1:15:24It's not perfect. Yeah, I think this movie is
- 1:15:26great. Again, it's not perfect.
- 1:15:29The one thing I wish it was longer because of pause, but it
- 1:15:38it's two hours. But there's so much more story
- 1:15:41that's missing, and it's a real shame that the sequel, Hannibal
- 1:15:46was kind of kind of weak. But the prequel with Edward
- 1:15:51Norton and and. Yeah, Red Dragon's.
- 1:15:53Good Red Dragon is I I think it's very good and very well
- 1:15:57done. So yeah, there is that.
- 1:16:00There's, you know, you have two movies that are decent in the
- 1:16:03sequel in the series. Yeah, though Edward Norton's a
- 1:16:06great performer too. Like, he's kind of an effed up
- 1:16:08person, but he's a really good actor.
- 1:16:10Manhunter's really good too cause it's Red Dragon but they
- 1:16:14call it Manhunter. It's actually a very well done
- 1:16:17movies by Michael Mann. Michael Mann did heat and
- 1:16:20collateral. So all collaterals are good
- 1:16:22movie. OK, so that was episode 8 of the
- 1:16:26Take Two pod. Thank you for listening.
