Argentina leaves it late, Spain awaits in World Cup final, The Open begins at Royal Birkdale ... and more for July 16th · The Sports Reset Canada: Daily Sports Recap in 2 Minutes

Argentina leaves it late! This is The Sports Reset for Thursday July 16th In the World Cup semifinals, Argentina advanced and England was eliminated with a 2 to 1 finish in Atlanta. Anthony Gordon put England in front after halftime, but Lionel Messi set up Enzo Fernandez for the 85th-minute equalizer, then crossed for substitute Lautaro Martinez to head in the stoppage-time winner. Argentina now gets Spain in Sunday’s final, with a chance to become the first back-to-back World Cup champion since Brazil in 1962. Looking ahead, in PGA golf, The Open is the top watch, with Thomas Detry at 3 under and Joe Dean and Alex Fitzpatrick right behind at 2 under as the week starts taking shape at Royal Birkdale. The Corales Puntacana Championship also gets rolling with Richie Ramsay, Fabian Gomez, and Seamus Power all at even par. In MLB, the New York Mets visit the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. The World Cup final waits on Sunday, and it is a clean contrast: Messi and Argentina’s tournament-best attack against a Spain side that has allowed just one goal.
