- 0:00get laced up let's go it's time for banter with
- 0:04the boys right on uh yo uh it is gridiron updates
- 0:18on banter with the boys uh i think right that's
- 0:21what we're yeah we're back yeah we're back we're
- 0:22here again Sorry, had to clear my old throat
- 0:26there. I'm smelty, of course. As always, next
- 0:30to me, Roberto. Hi, Roberto. He's silent today,
- 0:35okay? Next to him is Justin, our Packer fan.
- 0:37Welcome back. Appreciate you. He's just miming.
- 0:40It's all good. Yeah, it's all good. We'll give
- 0:42it the play -by -play. Trying not to get those
- 0:43YouTube viewers up higher. By not talking? Yeah,
- 0:47they'll see me. Right on, right on. And then
- 0:50Jake, obviously. What's up, buddy? Hey. Our other
- 0:52co -host, by the way. That's right. Yeah. Oh,
- 0:56Kev. Kev's here. Kev's here. Kev's got a new
- 0:58desk. I hope he is. It's a Hemnes from Ikea.
- 1:01Really looks nice. Is it really? I don't know.
- 1:04Oh, it looks like. Oh, we're just saying things.
- 1:06It's probably from Ikea, though. Gotcha. All
- 1:08right. Confirmed. Confirmed. All right. With
- 1:12that, Kev, let's move into our divisional round
- 1:14game recaps. No, you're miming. You can't be
- 1:26doing ninja moves. It's different. He could be
- 1:29miming as a ninja. He just can't speak. Anyway,
- 1:33let's talk about the first game of football.
- 1:36Yes, football. That's what we're here for. American
- 1:38football. Sorry. Yeah, anyway, sorry. All right.
- 1:43I'm just losing it here. All right, yeah. Number
- 1:46six, Bills travel to take on the number one Denver
- 1:49Broncos. Bills ended up getting the win. I'm
- 1:52sorry. Sorry, Bills fans. Broncos ended up getting
- 1:55the win 33 -30 at home, but this game was a doozy.
- 2:01I do kind of... put a little blame on Josh Allen.
- 2:04Everybody kind of wants to baby him, it feels
- 2:06like, after this game. Don't get me wrong, he
- 2:09was pretty shaken up at the end of the game in
- 2:11that post -interview, but man, who carries a
- 2:15football like that in the first half, right at
- 2:18the end of the first half, to set up the Broncos
- 2:20for three and you lost by three. I'm not saying
- 2:23anything, but you know what I mean. You had opportunities
- 2:26to not be in the situation at the end of the
- 2:29game for that field goal to possibly be for the
- 2:31win rather than the... the tie to go to OT, so
- 2:34it's just like, I don't know. I have to put a
- 2:37little blame on Josh Allen. Do you guys vibe
- 2:39with that, or are you big Josh Allen supporters?
- 2:42Big Josh Allen supporter, but this is on him
- 2:46as well. When you throw two interceptions, you
- 2:48lose two fumbles, three total fumbles. You can't
- 2:52be doing that when you're MVP, leading your team.
- 2:57This was his year, and he blew it. Look at the
- 3:00path. There's no Mahomes, no Burrell. You heard
- 3:03that on just about every game cast going into
- 3:07this playoffs. And to see what happened, he blew
- 3:11it. It's tough to see. It's tough to see how
- 3:13much it meant to him and the emotion you talked
- 3:16about at the podium. Because of him, we're now
- 3:21getting a Drake May vs. Stidham AFC Championship
- 3:24game. Unbelievable. What could have been? No,
- 3:26I'm just kidding. Jake, how do you feel about
- 3:30this? Josh Allen, do you hate for him, love for
- 3:33him? What's the vibe? I appreciate him still
- 3:36as a quarterback, but he has to own some of this.
- 3:38It's not entirely on him. I mean, it's a team
- 3:42sport. Of course. The rest of his team has to
- 3:46bail him out. I kind of joked with my brother
- 3:49-in -law, the only defense that can stop Josh
- 3:51Allen is his own. They gave up? Yeah, for sure.
- 3:5633 points. Three too many. Yeah. So there's that.
- 4:01We kind of talked about this off camera already.
- 4:05Again, because it's not all entirely on Josh
- 4:08Allen. There's some questionable officiating.
- 4:12A lot of people have that focus with it in overtime,
- 4:16but there was a possible DPI that should have
- 4:19been called on Riley Moss towards the end of
- 4:21the fourth quarter with like 24 seconds left.
- 4:24That would have put him down at maybe the two.
- 4:27The one or the two with 24, excuse me, like 20
- 4:30seconds left, probably get that touchdown then
- 4:34at that point instead of taking the three and
- 4:35going to overtime. How do you feel about those
- 4:38overtime calls, the ones that were called? So
- 4:43in the interest of fairness and consistency,
- 4:47the first DPI that got called. What? That was
- 4:51your disclaimer. Yeah, my disclaimer probably
- 4:53shouldn't have been called because it didn't
- 4:55get called on Riley Moss. It was very similar.
- 4:58Now, that said, on that same play, there was
- 5:00still a roughing the passer. So either way, they're
- 5:03going to get the 15 yards. Which the roughing
- 5:05the passer was egregious. Yeah, this is a little
- 5:10late. Just a little. A little bit. It's a lot,
- 5:13actually. That one in and of itself, while the
- 5:17DPI shouldn't have been called, at the end of
- 5:19the day, that one's still a wash, and they get
- 5:21to the same place where they are. Tredavious
- 5:24White ran the guy over. That guy gets a little
- 5:30handsy. Yeah. Well, so I had another note here.
- 5:33Riley Moss is pretty handsy, too, as far as the
- 5:36Broncos go. So it makes sense that you're trying
- 5:39to take deep shots against him. He was sixth
- 5:42most penalized player in the NFL. Like, one illegal
- 5:48contact, APIs for, like, 200 yards. And he led
- 5:52the league in, like, most yards on penalties.
- 5:54So pretty clever play calling, aside the fact
- 5:58that we're now talking, like, overtime. The interception,
- 6:02I agree with it. And I know we may talk about
- 6:06this more because there's a lot of... You mean
- 6:08the catch? No, it was an interception. Oh, the
- 6:11catch. No, sure. Technically, it's a catch either
- 6:15way. I was waiting for the elephant in the room
- 6:16to come out. So, yeah. Yes, the interception.
- 6:21Yes. And people. Mirror it to the Bears -Rams
- 6:26game, and we'll get to that with the Devontae
- 6:28Adams catch. Oh, you call that one a catch, though?
- 6:31Correct. Okay. Because Cook jumps, and so he's
- 6:37in the air. He now officially has to survive
- 6:40the ground. Devontae Adams didn't leave the ground.
- 6:43He was planted, and then he chose, or I'm assuming
- 6:46he chose, to start going down to the ground.
- 6:49Two very different things. Great explanation,
- 6:53for me anyway. That's ultimately the big difference
- 6:56between the two. Did you call me a loser? Oh!
- 7:00I heard that. It didn't take me five minutes
- 7:06this time. Real quick, before we move on, because
- 7:10the game we're talking about after this, we don't
- 7:12need to spend all the time on anyway. But real
- 7:15quick, before we move on from this game, Bo Nix,
- 7:18before... We got the crappy news that we'll talk
- 7:21about in our tent talk episode. Nice. Good call.
- 7:26God, he looked good. You've got to be excited
- 7:28as a Denver fan going forward. It would have
- 7:30been fun to see him battle Drake Mayhem. What
- 7:33a duel that would have been. A lot of good things.
- 7:38A lot of good things. What did you feel on Bo
- 7:43Nix this game before? I mean, he blasted the
- 7:45whole game. He's a baller. He's going to develop
- 7:50in the right way, and he's showing flashes of
- 7:52where he's going to be really good. If they can
- 7:54stay consistent as a team, meaning they keep
- 7:56the core quality that they have right now in
- 7:58defense, they continue to grow and let him mature,
- 8:00they've got the right coach in Sean Payton. He's
- 8:03been known as the quarterback whisperer, great
- 8:05on offense, being able to kind of put this together
- 8:08in the ways that he needs to. I think it's a
- 8:10great situation for Bo Nix to be in. I was gutted
- 8:15for him. Like, it didn't make sense. Like, you
- 8:16see the notification come out, and you're like,
- 8:19this isn't real. Oh, the video's a Denver fan.
- 8:21Yeah. It sucks. Like, this is fake, right? You
- 8:24feel so bad for him. The ultimate roller coaster.
- 8:26You're all the way up here as you're kneeling
- 8:29the ball for the win. No, just kidding. Come
- 8:30crash it down. Boom, artillery. You know, I think
- 8:33one of the saddest things that probably would
- 8:35have come out if this didn't happen was how close
- 8:38Drake May and Bo Nix are. They worked out together
- 8:42pre -draft when they were both selected. Drake
- 8:45spent a lot of time with his family, got to know
- 8:47him personally, talked about how great of a guy
- 8:49he is, he knows he'll overcome this. But they
- 8:51only played once in college, so I know they were
- 8:53looking forward to playing each other again,
- 8:55and I think it would have been highly competitive.
- 8:57But hopefully the Broncos, Bo Nix, use this as
- 9:01motivation for him to come back. I don't want
- 9:05to discount the Broncos because their defense
- 9:07is elite, and I know we'll get into that a little
- 9:09later. But, you know, you've got to feel for
- 9:11Bronco country. Let's ride. Let's ride. You know
- 9:16what? And that was nowhere near as awkward as
- 9:18Russell Wilson. No. Like, he flowed with it,
- 9:21though. Yeah. It was clean. Oh, God. That video
- 9:25lives rent -free in my head of Russell Wilson.
- 9:27Liam Cohen in him a little bit. Oh, man. All
- 9:30right, yeah, we'll touch on the Broncos. defense
- 9:33when we get to our preview and picks episode
- 9:35for the conference championship games because
- 9:37that defense played outstanding. The hardest
- 9:40-hitting defense left in the playoffs right now,
- 9:43in my opinion. But we'll touch on it. The 12th
- 9:46man might disagree with you. We'll touch on it.
- 9:47Nah. Nah. Now you're out on the 12th man again.
- 9:50No, no, no. I was never on 12th man. Yes, you
- 9:53were. I picked the Niners. That was Jacob. I
- 9:54picked the Niners to beat the Seek Chickens.
- 9:56He's still wishing the Buccaneers were in it.
- 9:58So let's talk about it. Yeah, probably, since
- 10:00I'm a Bucs fan. Yeah. Anyways, sorry. Moving
- 10:05on. Technical difficulties. Yeah. Beep. The number
- 10:10six Niners traveled to the 12th man. The number
- 10:13one Seachickens. And a version of the Niners
- 10:19showed up. It just wasn't the same version it
- 10:21felt like from the week prior. But injuries caught
- 10:24up with them early on in the game. And then the
- 10:27Seahawks never looked back. I mean, absolutely
- 10:30start to finish dominated them. And, yes, their
- 10:35defense is outstanding. A great matchup between
- 10:40the Rams and the Seachickens, but we'll talk
- 10:43about that later. I mean, whatever. What do you
- 10:48want to talk about this game? Because I don't
- 10:49know. Run game and defense. That's what it came
- 10:52down to, right? Kemba played outstanding. Charbonnet
- 10:55until... the moment, and we'll talk about that
- 10:58in the next episode. Sam Darnold did enough.
- 11:00He didn't have to do a lot. He didn't have to
- 11:03do anything. That's what you want. You don't
- 11:07want to put it all on Sam Darnold's shoulders.
- 11:10It brings back to me memories of 2000's Ravens
- 11:15with Trent Dilfer. It's like, hey, we just need
- 11:17you to score 17 points and then our defense is
- 11:22just going to own it. It feels like Jalen Hurts
- 11:24for the last three years. to me. You know what
- 11:26I mean? But it's so different, too. I hear you,
- 11:28but jokingly, but not. When that kick return
- 11:33scored for a touchdown, I felt this game is over.
- 11:37I know they still had to stay almost 60 minutes
- 11:39to play, but I know that was the kickoff. You
- 11:42could feel the crowd. You could see it. You could
- 11:45feel it through the TV from a 49er standpoint.
- 11:48And jokingly, all those memes about them having
- 11:51those blue tents out, it's the injuries that
- 11:53just... Caught up to them, unfortunately. Did
- 11:55you see the view from somebody behind the stadium?
- 11:58From their apartment? Just watching the kicker
- 12:00turn right into the corner there? Yeah, that
- 12:01was me. That was dope. Oh, yeah, that was you?
- 12:03Yeah, I was there. All right, all right. What
- 12:06did you make of this game here? I mean, it was
- 12:09just a butthole, buck kicking pretty much. That
- 12:12opening kick. Do you see the kicker try to kick
- 12:15him? Yeah, trip him. I'm like, what are you doing?
- 12:18The flag went down for that, right? They did
- 12:19flag him for that, but I'm like. No, there was
- 12:22a flag down, but it was obviously. No, that wasn't
- 12:24a flag. Yeah, he was trying to trip them, and
- 12:27they didn't get it. I mean, honestly, I checked
- 12:29out of this game about halftime. I was like,
- 12:31I got better things to do than watch that blow
- 12:33out, to be honest. I mean, like you said, Sam
- 12:37didn't have to do much running. I'm more interested
- 12:40to see, you know, Charbonnet being out and how
- 12:42much that impacts that offense, because that
- 12:44was a really good one -two punch. And then, you
- 12:47know, we'll talk about the next game coming up.
- 12:50Also, that front four, Byron Young II from Texas,
- 12:57that rookie. Murphy, Byron Murphy. Byron Murphy,
- 12:59sorry. I mean, he's been playing outstanding.
- 13:00That pickup of Leonard and Williams in the middle
- 13:03there. I mean, yeah, they're tough. And then
- 13:05the backside, they hit on that rookie from South
- 13:08Carolina. Very last name. I don't want to chew
- 13:11it up. But, yeah. And Morey. And Morey, yeah.
- 13:15And then their corners have been just playing
- 13:17out of their mind really above even I think what
- 13:21everyone expects. I knew they were going to be
- 13:23decent, but Witherspoon and I'm trying to think
- 13:26of the other guys. Witherspoon was all over the
- 13:28place. Exactly. So Seattle's going to be tough
- 13:31out, but, you know, obviously they're playing
- 13:32a division opponent for the third time. So 49ers
- 13:36are the epic run. It'll be interesting now because
- 13:38they'll be playing still a third -place schedule
- 13:41next year. Yeah. So they lost Salah. Spoilers.
- 13:47So that's going to hurt a little bit on the defense.
- 13:51But, you know, I think they're still young, you
- 13:53know, so I think the 49ers are going to be tough
- 13:55next year. Fair enough. Do you need to touch
- 13:59on this game, Jake? No, I think we all kind of
- 14:02talked about it. Seahawks opening kicker. Yep,
- 14:05it's halftime. Moving on. Yeah. The only other
- 14:10thing was the fact that, They went up. It was
- 14:1317 -0 at the end of the first. It was just like
- 14:16Seattle showed up. We were all continuing to
- 14:20have that conversation of rest versus rust, and
- 14:23Seattle did not have any of that. That was your
- 14:25theory. I remember that. Yeah. We always worry
- 14:29about that. Who was the other one? It was the
- 14:30other rust, the Patriots. The Broncos. Or the
- 14:32Broncos. Yeah. So both rust won over rest. Yeah.
- 14:37Fair enough. Kev, where were we at? Probably.
- 14:41Excuse me. Jeez. Let me try to learn how to speak
- 14:44here. Again, actually. Holy crap. All right.
- 14:48Let's move on to game three. The number five
- 14:52Texans taking on the number two Patriots in New
- 14:56England. New England getting the win 28 -16.
- 15:02I mean, obviously, probably the biggest. Elephant
- 15:06in the room on this game has got to be the play
- 15:08of C .J. Stroud. It'd be hard. What play? What
- 15:12play? Exactly. I mean, even if we're not talking
- 15:15about the interceptions, I mean, the throws that
- 15:17he was missing, he had them all year. Was the
- 15:21moment too big? Do you think he's healthy fully?
- 15:24What the heck's going on? I think New England
- 15:27just... continued to do a really good job of
- 15:30putting pressure with their front four, blitzing
- 15:32one every now and again, and blitzing from everywhere.
- 15:35Oh, they were disguising it really well. And
- 15:37CJ wasn't seeing it, wasn't picking it up, so
- 15:40he was missing his throws. When he did have time,
- 15:43he was still rushing it or over -processing.
- 15:45It was late. So he just wasn't thinking right
- 15:48from the get -go. I mean, he looked back like
- 15:50a rookie almost, like a J .J. McCarthy. And now
- 15:53we're to the point where this is CJ's fourth?
- 15:57Third year. Right now, you could almost say his
- 16:03rookie year is still his best year. Nico Collins
- 16:08being out, obviously. Patriots sped him up. And
- 16:13then he lost Dalton Schultz in the first two.
- 16:18That was pretty brutal. I think losing him as
- 16:21well, really. And Houston's defense was just
- 16:24on the field too much. And they hung in there
- 16:27for a long time. They really tried to make that
- 16:30a game all by themselves. I mean, they didn't
- 16:32allow any. The defense didn't allow any points
- 16:36off of C .J. Stroud's turnovers, which is a remarkable
- 16:39thing. And that defense was on the field for
- 16:4332 minutes. Unbelievable. That's more than half
- 16:47the game. Carry the one. Judge is ruling. Math.
- 16:51The only thing I can really say about the Patriots
- 16:54is they still weren't great on third downs, so
- 16:57they're really going to have to clean some of
- 16:59that up. Some of the small things now as they
- 17:01go to travel to beat – wow, geez, excuse me.
- 17:05Are you calling it already? To play the Broncos.
- 17:09Find out if that is my pick or not in the preview
- 17:12show, but it's not going to be maybe. You pick
- 17:16the Chargers, don't worry. Yeah, I'll pick the
- 17:18Chargers. Good call, good call. Yeah, I would
- 17:22still like to see Trevion Henderson get the ball
- 17:25a little bit more. I don't understand. I'm just
- 17:29not as high on Ramondre Stevenson when you've
- 17:32got Henderson sitting back there ready to go.
- 17:35I know Stevenson ended up getting that thing
- 17:36in his eye or whatever and was dealing with that.
- 17:38I think it's tough with how explosive Stevenson
- 17:42has been when they've needed it. I'm high on
- 17:45Henderson, too, and when you look at... What
- 17:48he can do when he gets the ball, it's great,
- 17:50but it's been so inconsistent because of the
- 17:53play of Stevenson. I think that's what they've
- 17:55needed quite a bit. I think Travion is one of
- 17:59those running backs. He gets better the more
- 18:00carries he gets throughout the game type of situation.
- 18:03So right on. If he's not getting those carries,
- 18:06then yeah, I feel you. But they're pretty even
- 18:09carries. It was 16 -12. 16 -12. But I think Ramondre's
- 18:12still getting the start. early game carries.
- 18:16He had four receptions. I don't know how many
- 18:19targets. He's probably a better pass blocker
- 18:20than Henderson maybe at this point. He must be.
- 18:24That's probably where we're seeing the difference
- 18:26in the opportunities. Look at us break down football.
- 18:30That'll be your chore. You watch Ramondre's pass
- 18:34blocking. I will. I'm breaking it down. PFF probably
- 18:37already has it for me. Ramondre's using Chad
- 18:41Gibby too. They have McCaffrey at the 18th best
- 18:44running back at one point. Yeah, you're a big
- 18:48fan. You're a big fan of PFF. Yeah, all right,
- 18:50let's move on. We'll talk about the Patriots
- 18:52and the Broncos here in a bit, or actually in
- 18:54a different episode, excuse me. So look for that.
- 18:59Last game of the weekend, the number five Rams
- 19:02traveling to the number two Chicago Bears. This
- 19:06game was extremely defensive for most of the
- 19:08game, but then that fourth quarter. Kind of started,
- 19:15I don't know, just kind of ramped up and then
- 19:18pure craziness happened. Obviously, it feels
- 19:22like the Bears should have not won that game
- 19:24anyway. Yes, they didn't win the game. But the
- 19:28Caleb Williams play isn't going to be an everyday
- 19:30thing. But the fact that he can make that play
- 19:33is outstanding. I mean, that just shows who he
- 19:36is. We call that arm talent. It is arm talent.
- 19:40Do you know who the defender was right there?
- 19:43I couldn't quite get back to it. I don't know
- 19:45who it was. 37? Little? I don't know. I guess
- 19:49I'm not going to act like I'm trying to figure
- 19:50it out. I asked AI in my head. Knowing there's
- 19:53defenders back there, but hoping that his man
- 19:55was back there as well. That's a big guy, but
- 19:58sucking it up and hoping and praying. Insane
- 20:01play to send that thing to overtime. That's a
- 20:02video game play. It is a video game play. It
- 20:05is a video game play. Something that... Oh, wait.
- 20:08No, it would probably be Ben doing it to me because
- 20:11I beat you. No, never. Never, never. All right,
- 20:14let's move on. Yeah, what excites you, what doesn't
- 20:19excite you about the Rams? winning this game.
- 20:22Do you think they actually have an opportunity
- 20:24next weekend? I don't want to get too far into
- 20:26it, but with what you saw this game. Yeah, I
- 20:28think the Rams still have an opportunity. It's
- 20:30the Seahawks. They gave the Seahawks a run for
- 20:32their money. That was three weeks ago. They had
- 20:36one or two bad bounces, and they took the L.
- 20:41Competitive L. Who was it last week that said
- 20:45that the Bears really needed to stop the Rams'
- 20:48run game? I can't remember. Probably me. Which
- 20:51one of you guys said that? Just like that. She's
- 20:55claiming everything. Hold on. Only if you're
- 20:58getting credit for it. Yeah, right. Is this a
- 21:02positive thing or a negative thing? Because then
- 21:05determine if I said it or not. Because the Rams
- 21:07did a pretty good job of stopping Swift in Mnangai.
- 21:12100%. Oh, yes. Because you were saying that they're...
- 21:15Yeah. They're one of the top duo or the top duo?
- 21:18No, they're one of the top duos. Okay. Would
- 21:22you take them or Charbonnet and Kemba instead?
- 21:26Kemba? Oh, Kemba Walker. Wow. Oh, we're mixing
- 21:31up our sports. You know what I'm talking about.
- 21:34Kenneth. So, I mean, if Charbonnet is healthy.
- 21:39No shizzle. Yeah, let's say he's healthy. Oh,
- 21:42man. Because you were really in love with Swift
- 21:44and Menungai last week. I've been in love with
- 21:51Swift and Menungai for weeks. Do they know this?
- 21:54No, they don't. I mean, he broke down Swift's
- 21:56numbers all the way back to the Lions. Yeah,
- 21:59back when he was a Lion and then he was with
- 22:01the Eagle. Whatever. Long story short. That's
- 22:07tough. I know. I put you on the spot real quick.
- 22:10You don't have to make a commitment. It's okay.
- 22:11I'd probably take Walker and Sharpe. Yeah, you
- 22:15would. Yeah, you would. Yep. With Jameer Gibbs
- 22:18and David Montgomery above them, probably. Yeah.
- 22:20I don't know. I mean, I'm looking at the offensive
- 22:23line versus who I'm taking as the running backs.
- 22:25I mean, they're pretty much. If we were taking
- 22:28that out of it, damn it. But I think that's what
- 22:31makes them. Which is true. Which is true. All
- 22:35right, anyway, let's get back on this game. Sorry,
- 22:37I'm just asking all sorts of random crap. You're
- 22:41a Packer fan. You got to see Caleb Williams twice
- 22:43this year. This is true. Well, three times, actually.
- 22:45Yeah, three times. Good job. Two plus one is
- 22:48two. Yes. What did I just say? Yeah, whatever.
- 22:52What are your thoughts on Caleb Williams moving
- 22:54forward? Does he concern you being in the NFC
- 22:56North now, like seeing more of, like he seems
- 22:58to be progressing, you know, throughout the season.
- 23:00Are you scared? I'm not. Are you scared? That's
- 23:03a better question. I'm not scared. That doesn't
- 23:04take away from his talent. I think he's going
- 23:06to be an amazing quarterback. I think he really
- 23:08has to figure out. These interceptions and these
- 23:12foolish throws he is throwing when he's under
- 23:14pressure in the scramble drill, he needs to calm
- 23:17down and know how to deal with organized chaos
- 23:20versus chaos. I think that's his biggest issue.
- 23:24I think if he figures that out, he's going to
- 23:25be great. And he needs to run more, and I think
- 23:27he figured that out the back half of the season.
- 23:29I don't think he was doing as much of that. Probably
- 23:31the first half, maybe the first third of the
- 23:35season as he was figuring out Ben Johnson's offense.
- 23:37Do you think they need to design more runs for
- 23:39him? I do think they probably need to do more
- 23:41of that. It's not no Jared Goff anymore. And
- 23:43I think it's Ben Johnson getting used to Caleb
- 23:46Williams. Caleb Williams getting used to this
- 23:49offense. I think they'll be great. But the thing
- 23:52I would worry about for them is you now have
- 23:55a year of tape with Ben Johnson. They're going
- 24:01to have tape. They're going to know how they
- 24:03run. So what new wrinkles are they adding? Everyone
- 24:05else is going to get better. The Vikings are
- 24:07going to get better. The Lions are going to get
- 24:08better. The Packers are going to get better.
- 24:09So I'm not scared of him. Way too early. Who
- 24:14wins the NFC North next year? Packers. Yeah,
- 24:16well, that was a dumb question. Lions. Lions.
- 24:20Lions. Yeah, well, Vikes. Obviously. Two against
- 24:23everybody else. In all seriousness, I go off
- 24:26of the fourth to first type of. who is fourth
- 24:32and third place in every team, excuse me, in
- 24:35every division, and were they really as bad as
- 24:38their record? And now that's who they get to
- 24:40play against, or did they deal with injuries
- 24:41or their circumstances? So I look at the Lions,
- 24:43and I think they've got a great opportunity in
- 24:46front of them next year, knowing that they're
- 24:48going to play a fourth -place schedule, if that
- 24:51makes me a little nervous. And new OC, we'll
- 24:53touch on him in the TED Talks. I love how we
- 24:58were all delayed. I was like, do we do it? Kind
- 25:01of what he was saying with Caleb, I don't think
- 25:04they'll design more runs for him just because
- 25:06I don't think they want him to get really more
- 25:08hurt, but I think when he has the opportunity
- 25:09to run, he needs to run more. But back to the
- 25:15decision -making, he needs almost like that's
- 25:17where Bo Nix is now. He doesn't make a ton of
- 25:19those mistakes, and he does kind of that same
- 25:22run around. He'll be super comfortable. And he'll
- 25:25throw away the ball, I feel like, or put it in
- 25:28a throw position where only his guys can get
- 25:31in and take the incomplete versus I think Williams
- 25:34still thinks he can fit it in every hole in his
- 25:37arm talent. Kevin, I hear you back there. I hear
- 25:41you, Cluckin'. Put your pants back. Yeah, it's
- 25:46a lot of that hero ball. Yeah, that new desk
- 25:48opens up an all -different view. Wow. But, yeah,
- 25:54the cluck, the finish there. Fun game. You know,
- 25:57frozen tundra. What does cluck the finish mean?
- 26:00Well, I don't know. The finish, the finish. We
- 26:03didn't even talk about Ben Johnson's decision
- 26:04-making. Ooh, that fourth down? Which one? They
- 26:08were three for six on fourth down. At some point.
- 26:12It's a Dan Campbell school. Yeah. And I love
- 26:16Ben Johnson's aggression and continuing to always
- 26:19be that. But he didn't read the field and read
- 26:24how the game was progressing. And points were
- 26:27at a premium. And you had two, well, three opportunities
- 26:30to kick field goals. And you decided to just
- 26:33go for it, and you left points off the board.
- 26:36They had possession of the ball for 39 minutes.
- 26:38So I think that that's something to think about
- 26:43or remember. And we love having an appreciation
- 26:46for that, hey, go for it mentality. But at some
- 26:50point, it does come back to bite you. And unfortunately,
- 26:52Bears are seeing and experiencing that firsthand.
- 26:55So would you say the fourth downs are actually
- 26:56lost in the game? I think so. I mean, people
- 27:01also point fingers at DJ Moore in that one fourth
- 27:04down route. Yeah, kind of lazy, didn't cross
- 27:06his face. Yeah. He did stop running on that for
- 27:11whatever reason. And Caleb, I think, mentioned
- 27:14something about that today, that they just weren't
- 27:15on the same page or something. I did see something
- 27:17flash. Like, no kidding. He's also mentioned
- 27:20they haven't talked since. He wasn't in the locker
- 27:22room. He hasn't talked to DJ. Vice versa since
- 27:26the game. Oh, controversy. Heard it here first
- 27:30on Gridiron Updates. Football fans. All right.
- 27:36Well, that was the last game. Dang. It was. Now
- 27:40we're down to four? Only four games, and we probably
- 27:41took just as long as the normal episode. Yep.
- 27:45Yep. Yep. Yep. Justin, thanks for being here,
- 27:49man. Appreciate you. Of course. You're here for
- 27:52the next two episodes, right? Yeah. All right.
