- 0:00Speaker 1: Family owned and operated since 1972. Sevchak Service Center, 2200 Longmire,
- 0:06Speaker 1: just down from the post office in College Station. It
- 0:28Speaker 1: is Throwback Monday. here on the big program. Don't worry
- 0:35Speaker 1: about how it was a little bit rough at the start.
- 0:39Speaker 1: We have got like an award-winning show today. This portion
- 0:42Speaker 1: of the program is brought to you by Central Texas
- 0:44Speaker 1: Sports Medicine. We're going to hear from Mike Elko. Some
- 0:49Speaker 1: of you had to work. A couple of you had
- 0:50Speaker 1: to work today, so you probably didn't hear him live
- 0:54Speaker 1: here on the zone a little bit earlier. We're going
- 0:56Speaker 1: to hear part of that. We're going to Do Rangers
- 1:03Speaker 1: postgame with both the Brewers manager, Pat Murphy, and the
- 1:06Speaker 1: Rangers manager, Skip Schumacher? Yeah, I know, but never mind.
- 1:13Speaker 1: We're going to hear from one of the Aggie players,
- 1:19Speaker 1: I think. Well, no, think. Don't think. I know. It
- 1:28Speaker 1: is Jamari and Mauro. We are going in the second
- 1:33Speaker 1: hour to hear from Cease and from Rusty. It is
- 1:38Speaker 1: the Writers' Roundtable. It's game week. And by the way,
- 1:43Speaker 1: I just looked and except for the Citadel in November,
- 1:51Speaker 1: unless something is in October. Okay, except for that game
- 1:57Speaker 1: in October, and we hope it might be cooler than
- 2:00Speaker 1: it will Saturday. This will be your cheapest chance. If
- 2:09Speaker 1: A & M does what everyone hopes they're going to
- 2:12Speaker 1: do and wins the games they hope they're going to win,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Saturday will be probably your cheapest chance to see this team.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Right now... Forty two dollars in the upper deck. OK,
- 2:25Speaker 1: and I don't think you're going to. Which means and
- 2:30Speaker 1: I'm going to give you a little hint here. If
- 2:31Speaker 1: you'll wait until like Saturday and I know you maybe
- 2:37Speaker 1: make plans. You have people from coming out of town.
- 2:39Speaker 1: You can't do that. OK, I get that. But if
- 2:41Speaker 1: you can, I mean, to think tickets will be about
- 2:47Speaker 1: thirty dollars won't be unreasonable. Maybe even twenty five bucks.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And you're not going to do better than that this year,
- 2:54Speaker 1: I don't think, even against Citadel. Look who's here. You
- 2:58Speaker 1: might just be able to pick one off somebody who's
- 3:01Speaker 1: passed out in the heat. That's not a bad idea.
- 3:06Speaker 1: You're going to have to stay under the shade. But
- 3:09Speaker 1: everybody that's waiting around in the sun, and especially those
- 3:13Speaker 1: who are drinking extra.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Hydrating.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Yeah, hydrating with alcohol on Saturday. You may get a
- 3:19Speaker 1: free ticket. You know, it may be a little awkward.
- 3:23Speaker 1: You may have to ask the significant other or even
- 3:26Speaker 1: the child standing next to the person, hey, since your
- 3:30Speaker 1: dad's not using... I'm just thinking there's opportunity. Since your
- 3:36Speaker 1: dad's not using... I mean, you wouldn't mind.
- 3:48Speaker 1: You know, oh, he's in the suite. He's got the thumbprint. Look,
- 3:52Speaker 1: I've got a guy that can help carrying up like
- 3:56Speaker 1: James Bond to put his hand on the door that
- 4:02Speaker 1: opens to the suite. Oh, thank you. I mean, this
- 4:11Speaker 1: is why I need help.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 1: I'm just telling you, you could get in free on Saturday.
- 4:20Speaker 1: If you don't, it's your own fault. Just kind of
- 4:22Speaker 1: hang around. And Saturday, honestly, there's always quite a few
- 4:30Speaker 1: people who don't go to the game. They just sit
- 4:33Speaker 1: under the shade trees. And whether they do or don't
- 4:36Speaker 1: have tickets on Saturday before halftime, I'm just telling you,
- 4:43Speaker 1: unless Hurricane... Dolly hits or whatever it is, that's an E.
- 4:49Speaker 1: It doesn't matter. Yeah, I think we're on number five. Okay,
- 4:51Speaker 1: so that's not going to happen. It's going to be hot.
- 4:56Speaker 1: And if it does, if we do get a little rain,
- 4:58Speaker 1: God help us all, because it's going to feel like
- 5:01Speaker 1: Baton Rouge, where they may or may not be playing
- 5:05Speaker 1: football on Saturday. I mean, you know, they're hosting Clemson.
- 5:12Speaker 1: And it's a big game, so I'm guessing they're going
- 5:14Speaker 1: to play no matter what happens. There's all kinds of
- 5:20Speaker 1: stuff going on here. You know, I'm not smart enough
- 5:24Speaker 1: to know. I know Ross Dellinger at Yahoo is a
- 5:27Speaker 1: pretty good college football reporter. He has a quote from
- 5:32Speaker 1: a conference member representative, let's say. There are plenty of
- 5:42Speaker 1: other schools who will take their place. Now look, LSU
- 5:47Speaker 1: ain't getting kicked out of the league. There may be
- 5:49Speaker 1: quite a few people in the league that wish LSU
- 5:52Speaker 1: would get kicked out of the league. SEC school executives,
- 5:58Speaker 1: according to Dellinger, are exploring extreme measures to address LSU's
- 6:04Speaker 1: plans to add former pro players, including... Boycotting competition. Who
- 6:10Speaker 1: else did that? And that didn't work at all. What
- 6:14Speaker 1: story came out in the spring like, oh, we're going
- 6:16Speaker 1: to boycott women's softball? What team was that that made
- 6:23Speaker 1: people upset? I mean, everyone's boycotting Texas.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Tech, right?
- 6:27Speaker 1: Texas Tech. It was Texas Tech.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:29Speaker 1: When they did Soar Speed. And everything.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Right.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Yeah, we're boycotting. How's that working out? As far as
- 6:34Speaker 1: I know, Texas Tech's playing a full schedule this year.
- 6:38Speaker 1: And in fact, a pretty soft one at that. And
- 6:41Speaker 1: in fact, Cody Campbell has invited via Twitter, Mac Engel
- 6:48Speaker 1: of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, whose credentials, along with all
- 6:52Speaker 1: his other fellow reporters, got revoked. And by the way,
- 6:57Speaker 1: TCU is going to be handing out credentials to people
- 7:02Speaker 1: on the street before this year is over. They're going
- 7:05Speaker 1: to be calling. They've probably already called the Star-Telegram and said, look,
- 7:11Speaker 1: we made a huge mistake. You guys can bring.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Your whole staff here to cover TCU football this year
- 7:24Speaker 6: because that press.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Box is going to be empty most of the year.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Holy moly. Remember how bad North Carolina was against TCU
- 7:34Speaker 1: last year? And you just said, good gosh, I thought
- 7:39Speaker 1: Bill Belichick was a coach. And it didn't even resemble
- 7:43Speaker 1: a junior high team. That was TCU on Saturday. And
- 7:49Speaker 1: I tweeted this out, and I have no knowledge whatsoever,
- 7:54Speaker 1: because according to Sonny, This is a close team that
- 7:59Speaker 1: love each other. Well, apparently two guys or at least
- 8:02Speaker 1: one guy did not love at least one of his
- 8:05Speaker 1: teammates because he beat him down in the locker room
- 8:09Speaker 1: and he had to go to the hospital. Okay? So
- 8:13Speaker 1: the only thing Sonny has said is this team loves
- 8:17Speaker 1: each other. This was a close team and it was surprising.
- 8:23Speaker 1: And I'm going... I don't know. After watching this team
- 8:27Speaker 1: play on Saturday, either A, the rest of the players
- 8:32Speaker 1: are looking over their shoulder in the locker room because
- 8:37Speaker 1: only one of the guys has been dismissed, and there
- 8:40Speaker 1: may be others. I'm not saying there is. I'm just
- 8:43Speaker 1: saying they played like something. Either A, something's wrong there,
- 8:48Speaker 1: or B, this is a really bad football team, and A,
- 8:55Speaker 1: Even guys who know football were kind of excited about
- 8:59Speaker 1: this Ivy League transfer from Harvard at quarterback, and he
- 9:04Speaker 1: was terrible. I mean, he was just, I'll tell you
- 9:07Speaker 1: how bad he was. He was worse than Josh Hoover.
- 9:11Speaker 1: And I can't wait to see what Kurt Cignetti's staff
- 9:14Speaker 1: does with Josh Hoover. I think they will probably threaten
- 9:19Speaker 1: him with his life. every time he throws an interception
- 9:22Speaker 1: because he threw a lot of them at TCU. And
- 9:26Speaker 1: maybe they can turn it because he has an arm.
- 9:29Speaker 1: He can make every throw. But you don't know if
- 9:32Speaker 1: it's going to your team or you don't know if
- 9:34Speaker 1: it's going to the other team. And I'm anxious to
- 9:38Speaker 1: see that staff at work because they obviously know what
- 9:40Speaker 1: they're doing. This staff, however, with the new offensive coordinator,
- 9:45Speaker 1: which came from The T.C. offensive coordinator came from someplace
- 9:55Speaker 1: like a P4 school.– you know, I don't know. I
- 10:02Speaker 1: don't remember. But it wasn't pretty. I mean– and North
- 10:07Speaker 1: Carolina is– what's his name? Gordon Samuels? Samus. Samus.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Okay.
- 10:16Speaker 1: And he was from– UConn.
- 10:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 1: UConn. Okay. That looked about right on Saturday.
- 10:29Speaker 4: But.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Look.
- 10:34Speaker 8: What if they trade Florida State?
- 10:38Speaker 1: That's another one. Norville. And by the way, always been
- 10:43Speaker 1: a Gary Patterson fan. I really think the guy can coach.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I do. But I mean, USC still looks like the
- 10:57Speaker 1: visor is still coaching them. Because it was at San
- 11:00Speaker 1: Jose State. Is that right? I mean, it was San
- 11:05Speaker 1: Jose State. And, yes, they had a lead. And, yes,
- 11:09Speaker 1: they were never threatened. But that's not the point. The
- 11:12Speaker 1: point is they gave up like 28 points to San
- 11:15Speaker 1: Jose State at home. And, oh, it was hot. Ooh,
- 11:20Speaker 1: there was only 40,000 people in the stands. I'm thinking
- 11:23Speaker 1: it was hot.
- 11:24Speaker 9: I looked.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I said, I don't know, it's L.A. because sometimes it's okay. Look,
- 11:29Speaker 1: it was like 94 degrees. It was hot, okay? It was.
- 11:33Speaker 1: And it was San Jose State. I get that. But
- 11:36Speaker 1: everybody within... They're excited about the Trojans this year. And, boy,
- 11:43Speaker 1: we got Gary Patterson. And we know we can have
- 11:46Speaker 1: an offense. And this Maiva, and he was good. And
- 11:49Speaker 1: they've got talent. Because I've watched them like four years now.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Talent has not been the issue with the visor. I'm
- 11:56Speaker 1: just telling you. He, especially offense. Offensive talent. Okay, let me,
- 12:01Speaker 1: let me. But you look on that defense. They've got
- 12:05Speaker 1: bodies there now. They look good getting off the bus.
- 12:08Speaker 1: And maybe Gary Patterson just hadn't been there long enough.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Maybe he will turn them into a defensive unit. But
- 12:15Speaker 1: I'm thinking, man, and you look at their schedule, and
- 12:20Speaker 1: it's like, oh, I mean, it's not easy. I mean,
- 12:27Speaker 1: I'm looking at four losses with just a pretty good,
- 12:30Speaker 1: you know, if you're a pretty good team, I'm looking
- 12:32Speaker 1: at four losses. I mean, Oregon, I think, will beat
- 12:37Speaker 1: them down. I mean, among others. And I'm thinking, I
- 12:43Speaker 1: don't know. From what the fans are expecting. And they've built.
- 12:48Speaker 1: So they've given money. They have been. They showed this
- 12:51Speaker 1: on TV Saturday. They've built them a facility. Like almost
- 12:55Speaker 1: everyone has now. They've got new facilities at Florida State,
- 13:00Speaker 1: which is why they can't afford to get rid of
- 13:02Speaker 1: their football coach, which, again, after this weekend, there's going
- 13:05Speaker 1: to be more outcry. And after this coming weekend, they're
- 13:09Speaker 1: playing SMU. There's going to be a bigger outcry because
- 13:13Speaker 1: I guarantee that quarterback and that offense, they'll put 31
- 13:19Speaker 1: on Florida State without thinking, okay? And the Florida State
- 13:24Speaker 1: team I saw Saturday said, Briefly, because it was so ugly,
- 13:28Speaker 1: I couldn't watch it. They can't. They couldn't put 31
- 13:31Speaker 1: on TCU right now. I mean, I'm just telling you.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Norvell is... But they can't afford it because they built
- 13:40Speaker 1: this brand new... Remember, that was the thing. Their facilities
- 13:44Speaker 1: were horrible. And everybody said that. Jimbo, you know, one
- 13:49Speaker 1: of the reasons he left, other than the $ 280 million
- 13:51Speaker 1: or whatever, was, hey, they're not... keeping up. We don't
- 13:57Speaker 1: have the facilities to keep up in recruiting, and this
- 13:59Speaker 1: was before they were handing out millions of dollars. I
- 14:02Speaker 1: would maintain that the facilities, while important, while still important,
- 14:09Speaker 1: they're not as important as how big that check is
- 14:11Speaker 1: that you're writing, right? And I don't think Florida State, again,
- 14:15Speaker 1: they didn't have money to get rid of Norvell, and
- 14:19Speaker 1: I don't know what their NIL situation is. I really don't.
- 14:23Speaker 1: I don't know what it is, but I don't think it's... It's... Hey.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Didn't they just upgrade their.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Would you turn his... Turn Dusty on, please, Stan.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 14:35Speaker 10: There we go.
- 14:36Speaker 7: Up.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Didn't they just upgrade their football.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:41Speaker 1: The stadium itself and shrink it, take seats out? Ooh,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I didn't know that. It was sold out. It looked...
- 14:46Speaker 1: I mean, they had aerial views, so I couldn't tell.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I think they... More suites, maybe.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Right.
- 14:51Speaker 1: They put more suites in and took seats out. Yeah,
- 14:55Speaker 1: that probably makes sense. I didn't see the attendance. Yeah,
- 14:58Speaker 1: it's not a real big stadium. It was pretty big.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I mean, it was a good. It's not tiny. No,
- 15:05Speaker 1: it's not. But they shrunk it a little bit. Okay,
- 15:08Speaker 1: I didn't know that. But it was sold out. It
- 15:14Speaker 1: won't be much longer. If they play like that again,
- 15:16Speaker 1: it won't be. I don't think it's going to be
- 15:18Speaker 1: sold out.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Thanks to Dusty, really, for my laugh of the day, honestly.
- 15:26Speaker 1: I think we've given you ample opportunity to be able
- 15:29Speaker 1: to get into the football game on Saturday. If I
- 15:34Speaker 1: do nothing else, this is what we've done for you
- 15:37Speaker 1: so far.
- 15:38Speaker 5: Okay.
- 15:38Speaker 1: We're going to take a break. We're going to hear

- 15:51Speaker 1: we're also going to do ANCO, and then we're going

- 17:35Speaker 1: school report tomorrow. We're going to hear from a couple
- 17:39Speaker 1: of Aggie football players tomorrow. Get you ready for game week.
- 17:46Speaker 1: um on saturday and i'm sure the writers have some
- 17:52Speaker 1: things to say about this last weekend i did watch
- 17:55Speaker 1: quite a bit of football it wasn't real pretty uh
- 17:59Speaker 1: frankly uh and apparently i missed a really good ending
- 18:03Speaker 1: to memphis and unlv but it was too late i
- 18:06Speaker 1: was in bed by then uh and i you know
- 18:10Speaker 1: i didn't Think about taping that game. But that's okay.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Football starts Thursday, goes through Monday of this week. And, oh,
- 18:20Speaker 1: by the way, Stan, can I do Friday's fearless football
- 18:28Speaker 1: forecast real quick and remind people that we have that
- 18:32Speaker 1: up on the website? The games are ready to go.
- 18:38Speaker 1: The tiebreaker. We were just talking about this. SMU Florida State.
- 18:44Speaker 4: L.C.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Thomas and Rudder. A & M Consolidated in Huntsville. Baylor
- 18:50Speaker 1: Auburn in Atlanta. Louisville Ole Miss in Nashville. Washington State Washington.
- 18:56Speaker 1: The Apple Cup. Tulane and Duke. Oklahoma State and Tulsa.
- 19:03Speaker 1: UCLA and Cal. And Clemson State. and the Fighting Lane Kiffins.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Those are our 10 games. No, I did not put
- 19:15Speaker 1: A & M on this week. They will be on
- 19:19Speaker 1: almost every week, but I put them on this week
- 19:22Speaker 1: because I'm not giving you a free pick to start
- 19:26Speaker 1: the contest, okay? Go online. Right now it's available until
- 19:31Speaker 1: 5 o'clock Friday. If you've never played before, I started
- 19:36Speaker 1: to say it's better to be lucky than good, but
- 19:39Speaker 1: this is not the case. We go all season long,
- 19:42Speaker 1: so the person that wins is usually pretty good. That's okay.
- 19:48Speaker 1: You win weekly prizes, too. friday's fearless football forecast contest
- 19:53Speaker 1: is brought to you by zwernemann flooring and chad jones
- 19:58Speaker 1: law okay let's hear from a part of what coach
- 20:04Speaker 1: elko had to say today with the media.
- 20:06Speaker 14: Let's just start with things going on in and around
- 20:08Speaker 14: the program. Really excited for the R.C. Slocum statue reveal.
- 20:13Speaker 14: That'll be Friday at 2 o'clock. Really, really unbelievable accomplishment
- 20:18Speaker 14: for a guy who is the winningest head football coach
- 20:21Speaker 14: in Texas A & M history. A guy who won
- 20:23Speaker 14: six Southwest Conference championships, two Big 12 South championships. Big
- 20:27Speaker 14: 12 South Conference Championships and really a guy who kind
- 20:31Speaker 14: of epitomizes what being an elite coach here at Texas
- 20:34Speaker 14: A & M is all about. And so hopefully we'll
- 20:36Speaker 14: get a lot of people out for that. That's a
- 20:37Speaker 14: really cool moment. That'll be a really cool day for him.
- 20:40Speaker 14: I want to say congratulations to the 32 Aggies who
- 20:44Speaker 14: made football rosters yesterday. That includes a few guys on
- 20:47Speaker 14: IR and the PUP list, but we have 32 guys
- 20:50Speaker 14: still currently listed on NFL rosters. And so what a
- 20:54Speaker 14: great accomplishment for those guys yesterday. And then from our perspective,
- 20:59Speaker 14: it's finally game week. Finally, we get to stop talking. Finally,
- 21:02Speaker 14: we get to stop talking about what things can be,
- 21:04Speaker 14: what things can be about. And we get to run
- 21:07Speaker 14: out of the tunnel and go play somebody else. And
- 21:09Speaker 14: it's beyond past the time to go do that. Our
- 21:12Speaker 14: kids are really excited and fired up for it. opportunity
- 21:16Speaker 14: to take on a Missouri State team who recently made
- 21:19Speaker 14: the jump to Conference USA and really is one of
- 21:22Speaker 14: the hotter athletic departments in the country when you look
- 21:25Speaker 14: at some of the things they accomplished last year, football
- 21:27Speaker 14: being a bowl team in their first year in Division I,
- 21:30Speaker 14: the women's basketball team making and advancing in the NCAA tournament,
- 21:34Speaker 14: the baseball team qualifying for the NCAA tournament as an
- 21:38Speaker 14: at-large team, I just think this is a program that's really,
- 21:41Speaker 14: really on the rise, and they went out this offseason
- 21:44Speaker 14: and hired a new head coach, Casey Woods, who is
- 21:46Speaker 14: the offensive coordinator at SMU, a guy who is really
- 21:49Speaker 14: well-renowned as an offensive strategist, a young guy who has
- 21:53Speaker 14: been really, really hot on.
- 21:54Speaker 7: The OC market in the last few years, and so.
- 21:58Speaker 7: It's an exciting program.
- 22:00Speaker 14: It's an exciting team to get a chance to go
- 22:01Speaker 14: out and compete against, and we're really looking forward to it.
- 22:05Speaker 14: I think when you talk about personnel, we've talked a
- 22:08Speaker 14: lot about how openers sometimes are very challenging. I think
- 22:12Speaker 14: when you're playing a new staff, it makes it even
- 22:14Speaker 14: more challenging. I think the amount of film that we're
- 22:17Speaker 14: watching in terms of teams, you're watching teams UTEP, SMU, TCU, Tulane.
- 22:25Speaker 7: Auburn, to try to get schematic.
- 22:27Speaker 14: And then that's to say nothing about all of the
- 22:30Speaker 14: players that you're having to watch and the different places
- 22:32Speaker 14: that they come from. And so trying to do the
- 22:34Speaker 14: best job we can of piecing it all together and
- 22:37Speaker 14: trying to figure it all out. But like a lot
- 22:39Speaker 14: of openers, it's going to really be about ourselves and
- 22:42Speaker 14: getting ourselves ready to go out and play our best
- 22:44Speaker 14: football to the best we can and hope that that
- 22:46Speaker 14: shows Saturday night.
- 22:48Speaker 7: And so from there, we'll kind of open it up
- 22:49Speaker 7: to questions.
- 22:50Speaker 16: Coach, we'll go to the right, second row, David.
- 22:53Speaker 17: Coach, do you break, now that we've turned the page
- 22:55Speaker 17: to a game week, do you break the season into
- 22:57Speaker 17: micro-segments or phases and build towards November? I know you
- 23:01Speaker 17: guys don't try to peak. You want to be peaked
- 23:03Speaker 17: all season, but is there a micro-fraction to that?
- 23:06Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I always function in quarters.
- 23:08Speaker 14: I just think that's how, to me, football makes sense, obviously.
- 23:13Speaker 14: And so we talk about you have the first quarter,
- 23:16Speaker 14: your first three games, and then you've got that middle quarter.
- 23:18Speaker 14: stretch and then you have the fourth quarter which is
- 23:21Speaker 14: the last three but um you know right now i
- 23:24Speaker 14: think it's really just about focusing on us going out
- 23:27Speaker 14: there and seeing what we are seeing what we're capable
- 23:30Speaker 14: of doing it together as a team for the first
- 23:33Speaker 14: time in a live setting and then um you know
- 23:36Speaker 14: figuring out where the adjustments need to come and what
- 23:38Speaker 14: we need to do to become the best team we're
- 23:40Speaker 14: capable of being.
- 23:41Speaker 7: We'll stay to the right first row carter Mike, how.
- 23:45Speaker 16: Would you assess kind of what you've seen from your
- 23:47Speaker 16: offensive guards, and how close would you say you are
- 23:50Speaker 16: to kind of knowing what that group will look like?
- 23:53Speaker 7: Yeah, I think we're getting closer to knowing what it'll
- 23:56Speaker 7: look like. I think....
- 23:58Speaker 14: It's been a very, very competitive battle, which has been really,
- 24:02Speaker 14: really good for us. It's been really good to see
- 24:05Speaker 14: some of the young guys that we've talked about this
- 24:07Speaker 14: a lot, but some of the young guys in our
- 24:09Speaker 14: program really elevate and then see some of the new
- 24:12Speaker 14: guys who have come into the program and really being
- 24:14Speaker 14: forced to elevate in order to, to win jobs and,
- 24:18Speaker 14: I still believe it's played out like we hoped it would.
- 24:21Speaker 14: You have a really, really strong competition where in the
- 24:24Speaker 14: end of the day, whoever runs out there for the
- 24:27Speaker 14: first snap, there's going to be a lot of guys
- 24:30Speaker 14: that get an opportunity to go out there and play
- 24:33Speaker 14: both inside at guard and center and then outside at
- 24:35Speaker 14: tackle as well. I think we're getting a little bit
- 24:39Speaker 14: closer to who the group will be that starts, but
- 24:42Speaker 14: The reality is we're still searching to figure out who
- 24:44Speaker 14: the best five is and what that will look like
- 24:47Speaker 14: because you don't really know until you get into those
- 24:49Speaker 14: live game settings what it's going to look like together.
- 24:52Speaker 18: We'll go to the left, second row, Alex.
- 24:54Speaker 19: Kind of going off Carter's question to that point, do
- 24:57Speaker 19: you anticipate maybe having a healthy rotation of guys going
- 25:00Speaker 19: in along that offensive line throughout the game this week
- 25:02Speaker 19: as you try and figure out those five?
- 25:04Speaker 14: Yeah, and I'm not saying because we're trying to figure
- 25:06Speaker 14: it out. I just think that's who we've been. Last
- 25:09Speaker 14: year when we had a lot of returning starters and
- 25:11Speaker 14: Nobody was unsure about who the starters were. We still
- 25:14Speaker 14: went into this opening segment knowing we were going to
- 25:17Speaker 14: rotate guys in.
- 25:19Speaker 7: I just think that's really, really important. I think the
- 25:22Speaker 7: more guys that.
- 25:23Speaker 14: You have involved, the more guys that you believe can
- 25:25Speaker 14: help you win, the better that is for everything.
- 25:28Speaker 7: It's better for morale.
- 25:29Speaker 14: It's better for lasting 12 games it's better for development
- 25:33Speaker 14: it's just literally better in every way shape or form
- 25:36Speaker 14: when you have enough guys that can go out there
- 25:38Speaker 14: and rotate and help now the challenge is making sure
- 25:40Speaker 14: that you have enough guys that the level doesn't drop
- 25:43Speaker 14: and they're capable of playing to the standard they need
- 25:45Speaker 14: to play at and i think that's what the competition
- 25:48Speaker 14: has shown and you know now we got to go
- 25:50Speaker 14: out in a game setting and show that we can
- 25:51Speaker 14: play at that level And then.
- 25:53Speaker 15: Just wanted to ask if you anticipate if Damian will
- 25:55Speaker 15: play this week.
- 25:56Speaker 1: Right now, yes.
- 25:57Speaker 14: Probably still a little bit of a game-time decision. But
- 26:00Speaker 14: if you were to ask me right now, yes, I
- 26:02Speaker 14: anticipate him being out there.
- 26:04Speaker 7: We'll go back over to the right, first row, Travis. Hey, Coach.
- 26:08Speaker 15: With everything you've seen in fall camp, what are some
- 26:12Speaker 15: characteristics that make you believe that this team might be
- 26:14Speaker 15: one that could potentially take a step forward from the
- 26:16Speaker 15: last two years?
- 26:18Speaker 3: Um.
- 26:20Speaker 7: That's a hard question to answer until you get out
- 26:22Speaker 7: there and play. I don't know that you see things
- 26:26Speaker 7: until you go out and you've got to play for real.
- 26:28Speaker 14: We've elevated ourselves to be a team that has made
- 26:31Speaker 14: the playoff, has competed to go to the SEC Championship,
- 26:33Speaker 14: has finished in the top ten. I think whether this
- 26:39Speaker 14: team can do that, I don't know.
- 26:40Speaker 7: We'll find out when we start playing people for real.
- 26:42Speaker 15: And now that we have a depth chart, can you
- 26:43Speaker 15: go a little bit into the kicking battle and what
- 26:45Speaker 15: separated David.
- 26:46Speaker 7: And how close that was?
- 26:47Speaker 14: Yeah, he's a really good kicker.
- 26:50Speaker 7: I think he was hurt in the spring and so
- 26:52Speaker 7: he didn't really get to kick much. And so.
- 26:55Speaker 14: Asher got his opportunity and really did a nice job.
- 26:58Speaker 14: And then that created a competition, not because David didn't
- 27:02Speaker 14: do anything, but just because you had this other guy
- 27:04Speaker 14: really step up all spring.
- 27:05Speaker 7: And so then they went back.
- 27:07Speaker 14: And forth and It was very, very close and very,
- 27:11Speaker 14: very tight, and tight because both guys were phenomenal. And
- 27:15Speaker 14: so I think we have a really, really strong kicking situation,
- 27:18Speaker 14: and we just decided to go with the guy who
- 27:20Speaker 14: maybe has done it a little bit more at the
- 27:21Speaker 14: college level at this point.
- 27:23Speaker 7: But both of them were really, really good this fall.
- 27:26Speaker 19: On the left, third row, Tyler.
- 27:30Speaker 17: Coach, how much are you realistically able to learn about
- 27:32Speaker 17: your team here in week one, and what kind of
- 27:34Speaker 17: the main things in the trenches are you going to
- 27:37Speaker 17: be looking at?
- 27:40Speaker 14: Yeah, I mean, you guys are going to want to
- 27:42Speaker 14: make these massive overreactions because that's what we do, and
- 27:46Speaker 14: that's just kind of what we do in today's society.
- 27:50Speaker 14: I think we want to go out and we want
- 27:51Speaker 14: to see where we are, knowing that what we're going
- 27:55Speaker 14: to be is going to be way better than that
- 27:57Speaker 14: each week we go out there. And so I don't
- 27:59Speaker 14: know that you have these things that you're looking for
- 28:02Speaker 14: because I'm not trying to– I feel like sometimes in openers,
- 28:06Speaker 14: everyone's trying to identify, is this team going to be
- 28:09Speaker 14: good enough? I know we're good enough to compete. I
- 28:11Speaker 14: know we're good enough to compete. I know we have
- 28:13Speaker 14: enough talent to be in this thing. I know we're
- 28:15Speaker 14: going to have an opportunity. What we have to do
- 28:17Speaker 14: is be a team that focuses on what is important
- 28:20Speaker 14: to play winning football, and then that grows week to week.
- 28:23Speaker 14: And so for me, it's I want to go out there,
- 28:26Speaker 14: I want to play somebody, I want to see where
- 28:27Speaker 14: we're at. And then from there, it's going to be
- 28:30Speaker 14: really important, wherever that is, that we grow coming out
- 28:34Speaker 14: of it. And that to me is what makes really,
- 28:36Speaker 14: really good football teams over the course of the season.
- 28:38Speaker 14: But I'm not, I'm not sitting here on this podium, like,
- 28:42Speaker 14: oh my gosh, I need to see this or we're
- 28:44Speaker 14: in trouble.
- 28:45Speaker 7: Like I just, that's not really how, how we work
- 28:47Speaker 7: as coaches. We'll go over to the right, Rob.
- 28:50Speaker 10: Howdy coach.
- 28:52Speaker 7: Howdy.
- 28:53Speaker 21: So long, hot summer, the last few weeks, the weather
- 28:57Speaker 21: has been just blooming hot. How do you kind of
- 28:59Speaker 21: navigate the weather and, and, having a good fall camp,
- 29:04Speaker 21: preparing for game one and game two and a 2.30 kickoff,
- 29:09Speaker 21: and make sure the guys are still fresh? How do
- 29:12Speaker 21: you kind of navigate that?
- 29:14Speaker 7: Run into it.
- 29:15Speaker 14: I think anybody who saw that video that came out
- 29:17Speaker 14: last night, you know, we don't. We don't sidestep it.
- 29:21Speaker 14: We had all three of our scrimmages or Saturday practices.
- 29:25Speaker 14: We had one weekend practice every week that was at kickoff.
- 29:29Speaker 7: Time in the stadium in the heat. It is what
- 29:34Speaker 7: it is.
- 29:34Speaker 14: Obviously, we're really intelligent about load management and how we
- 29:38Speaker 14: do all that stuff and making sure everybody's safe and
- 29:40Speaker 14: protected like we're not uh it's not the old days
- 29:43Speaker 14: but um but yeah I don't think you can hide
- 29:46Speaker 14: from it it's going to be you know we've got
- 29:47Speaker 14: two two kickoffs that are going to be right in
- 29:49Speaker 14: the middle of the Texas heat in September you know
- 29:51Speaker 14: we've got an opener that's going to be at six
- 29:53Speaker 14: o'clock and it's still pretty hot at six o'clock in
- 29:55Speaker 14: Texas in September and so uh it is what it
- 29:58Speaker 14: is and we just got to go play We'll.
- 30:00Speaker 7: Go over to the left.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Jesus.
- 30:03Speaker 16: Coach, what does it mean to you to have a
- 30:05Speaker 16: veteran kicker like Alano, especially after last year with some
- 30:10Speaker 16: of the kicking problems? I heard you speak at one
- 30:12Speaker 16: of the coaches' nights, and you said that was your
- 30:14Speaker 16: number one guy on your team. transfer portal board what
- 30:16Speaker 16: does he bring to your team and what does it
- 30:18Speaker 16: mean to have a veteran this year.
- 30:19Speaker 14: Yeah i mean we had a veteran last year and
- 30:21Speaker 14: so hopefully what it means is is consistency when he
- 30:24Speaker 14: goes out there but um again you know you don't
- 30:26Speaker 14: make a lot of statements on a podium you know
- 30:28Speaker 14: we got to go do it on the field and
- 30:30Speaker 14: so we're excited for david we believe in him but
- 30:32Speaker 14: um you know he's got to go out there and
- 30:34Speaker 14: he's got.
- 30:34Speaker 18: To do it we'll go to the back right chip Mike,
- 30:38Speaker 18: you mentioned the difficulty, especially early in the season, of
- 30:42Speaker 18: identifying the other team's personnel. What do you know offensively
- 30:47Speaker 18: about this team and maybe even one or two guys
- 30:50Speaker 18: that you have to pick?
- 30:52Speaker 7: Pay attention to yeah.
- 30:54Speaker 14: You know they've got a really talented quarterback that came
- 30:56Speaker 14: over from UTEP that started seven games who's got the
- 30:59Speaker 14: ability to hurt you with his arms and with his
- 31:01Speaker 14: legs and came with the offensive coordinator and so he's
- 31:04Speaker 14: going to be familiar with you know the offensive style
- 31:08Speaker 14: and what they're trying to do they've got a slot
- 31:11Speaker 14: receiver who is their leading receiver from last year who's
- 31:14Speaker 14: really really talented they got a big tall athletic tight
- 31:17Speaker 14: end who will be a matchup issue in the past game.
- 31:22Speaker 7: I think that's what you know.
- 31:23Speaker 14: And then from there, it's a lot of transfers and
- 31:25Speaker 14: trying to piece together who's going to go out there,
- 31:29Speaker 14: what they're going to look like in the new system,
- 31:31Speaker 14: in a new program.
- 31:32Speaker 1: That's some of what Mike Elko had to say today.
- 31:35Speaker 1: The emphasis on the place kicker, David Alano, the transfer
- 31:41Speaker 1: from Illinois, fifth-year senior who won the job. over the
- 31:45Speaker 1: freshman Asher Murray for now. And, yeah, that's another area
- 31:51Speaker 1: you're looking at where this team is going to need
- 31:54Speaker 1: some more consistency, and that's in the kicking game. Hey,
- 31:59Speaker 1: Galleria is your place to go and relax and get cool,

- 35:40Speaker 5: I keep my eyes wide open all the time.
- 35:44Speaker 1: I keep the ends out for the tie that binds.
- 35:48Speaker 1: We've got Astros baseball at 640 tonight against the White Sox.
- 35:57Speaker 1: I don't know if you saw this or not. It's
- 35:59Speaker 1: pretty cool. Tennessee volunteers are going to have a helmet
- 36:03Speaker 1: patch with Dolly's butterfly logo on it this year. Really cool.
- 36:11Speaker 1: You can look that up. We mentioned at the top,
- 36:16Speaker 1: it wasn't a good weekend for TCU. And over the weekend,
- 36:21Speaker 1: Former safety Jacob Fields was charged with aggravated assault causing
- 36:26Speaker 1: serious bodily injury in a locker room altercation August the 13th.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Fields turned himself in Sunday morning and was released on bail.
- 36:43Speaker 1: And it's a cluster in Fort Worth right now. And apparently...
- 36:51Speaker 1: USC is making excuses on the attendance, which was announced
- 37:01Speaker 1: at 51,000 in the Coliseum on Saturday. Well, it was hot.
- 37:09Speaker 1: They kicked off at noon. We thank the fans that
- 37:15Speaker 1: showed up. Yeah, it was San Jose State, and it
- 37:20Speaker 1: was hot. And it was in the middle of the afternoon.
- 37:26Speaker 1: I believe A & M plays at 2.30 a week
- 37:29Speaker 1: from Saturday. I'm pretty sure that's true, right, against Arizona State?
- 37:33Speaker 1: Against Arizona, they play at 11. Ooh, 11 a.m. At Kentucky,
- 37:37Speaker 1: they play at 2.30. Okay. That's home, by the way,
- 37:41Speaker 1: to Kentucky. So that's a 2.30 home game. So they
- 37:44Speaker 1: have an 11 a.m. game and a 2.30 game. I
- 37:46Speaker 1: think Texas kicks off at 2.30 Saturday. It's going to
- 37:52Speaker 1: be hot, but it's always hot this time of year.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying? Okay, I mentioned we got Astros.
- 37:59Speaker 1: The Rangers still two games behind. They started the road
- 38:03Speaker 1: trip with a win, and they ended the road trip
- 38:07Speaker 1: with a win. In between, they were horrible. Kumar Rocker
- 38:13Speaker 1: is getting praised for pitching three innings yesterday. Well, he
- 38:18Speaker 1: struck out seven. Well, he pitched three innings in a
- 38:21Speaker 1: pennant race. And still didn't cover first base. And still
- 38:29Speaker 1: didn't cover first base. Skip Schumacher tried to defend him afterward.
- 38:37Speaker 13: I mean, it was a tough first inning.
- 38:39Speaker 20: Them getting two runs against Rocker and then just some
- 38:42Speaker 20: long innings after that. Went right to the bullpen. Alexander
- 38:46Speaker 20: was fantastic. Kind of kept him at two runs. And
- 38:48Speaker 20: then our offense came back. And it's going to take
- 38:50Speaker 20: you know, we've talked about offensive identity and, you.
- 38:53Speaker 13: Know, what that means.
- 38:54Speaker 20: And it's going to take some heart and guts to
- 38:56Speaker 20: fight back and to start getting more wins.
- 38:59Speaker 13: And that's exactly what happened today.
- 39:01Speaker 20: These guys are working hard to get it right.
- 39:04Speaker 13: And it was a really good offensive performance.
- 39:05Speaker 20: So really good job with the bullpen and obviously the
- 39:09Speaker 20: offense coming alive. I know I feel like a broken
- 39:12Speaker 20: record every time I talk about him. After a win,
- 39:14Speaker 20: it feels like he's involved somehow, either on the defensive
- 39:18Speaker 20: side or on the offensive side today.
- 39:19Speaker 13: Huge double with runners on base.
- 39:22Speaker 20: I know he got the home run, but I felt
- 39:24Speaker 20: like the double with runners on base is what you know,
- 39:27Speaker 20: the momentum changed and in such a big hit at
- 39:30Speaker 20: the time. And then we, you know, kind of, kind
- 39:32Speaker 20: of tacked on after that, but yeah, Zeke, you know, I,
- 39:35Speaker 20: He's been our most valuable player.
- 39:36Speaker 13: He's played every position.
- 39:38Speaker 20: At any league level, and I'm glad he's carried us
- 39:41Speaker 20: for most of the year. Yeah, such a weird road trip.
- 39:43Speaker 20: We won the first one and won the last one,
- 39:45Speaker 20: and nothing in the middle. So hopefully we can start
- 39:49Speaker 20: a winning streak. Always nice to win the last game.
- 39:52Speaker 20: It's a lot better jumping on a flight after a win,
- 39:55Speaker 20: and hopefully it starts something offensively for sure when we
- 39:58Speaker 20: get back home.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Ezekiel Durant, who he was talking about there at the end,
- 40:03Speaker 1: has just been unreal. Evan Grant suggested that Ezekiel Duran
- 40:09Speaker 1: not to win, but at least should be in the
- 40:11Speaker 1: conversation of MVP. Not of the team, of the American League.
- 40:18Speaker 1: He has been unbelievable. He should win a gold glove
- 40:25Speaker 1: as a utility player. He should win a silver slugger award.
- 40:30Speaker 1: I mean, he's been unreal. Milwaukee's pretty good, by the way.
- 40:38Speaker 1: Best record in baseball. Pat Murphy, the manager, talked about
- 40:43Speaker 1: his starting pitcher, Dustin May, and the series with the Rangers.
- 40:48Speaker 8: He knew that he, you know, he needed to give
- 40:50Speaker 8: us some innings today, and he knew our bullpen situation,
- 40:52Speaker 8: and I thought he did some really good things, but
- 40:55Speaker 8: it's been kind of the nemesis for him, you know? Like,
- 40:57Speaker 8: I don't think he's 100% comfortable yet. We've got to
- 41:01Speaker 8: do a better job of helping him, too, and... Yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 8: I thought there was a lot of good, but it's
- 41:06Speaker 8: a good team. You know, it's a good team. There's
- 41:10Speaker 8: enough veteran presence there with Peterson, Seager, Nemo. There's Berger
- 41:17Speaker 8: and young kids like Freeman and Freeman, Duran, and Langford.
- 41:21Speaker 2: They're really, really talented.
- 41:22Speaker 8: So, you know, they had a good game. Say what
- 41:25Speaker 8: you want. I mean, we had him at almost 90
- 41:29Speaker 8: pitches after three innings, but he did settle down and
- 41:32Speaker 8: retire I don't know how many in a row And
- 41:35Speaker 8: we didn't get another hit until like the sixth or
- 41:37Speaker 8: seventh inning. And maybe three hits after the– four hits
- 41:41Speaker 8: after the first inning. Got to do a little more
- 41:44Speaker 8: than that.
- 41:44Speaker 1: That's Pat Murphy, the fine manager of the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 41:51Speaker 1: Rangers begin a series with the Oakland A's. Maybe they
- 41:54Speaker 1: can beat Oakland.
- 41:56Speaker 2: Maybe.
- 41:57Speaker 1: We said that the last time they were on the
- 41:59Speaker 1: West Coast, right? Never mind. Astros Report, brought to you

- 42:38Speaker 26: I'm Jett Nelson with your Houston Astros report. The Astros
- 42:41Speaker 26: used multiple homers to win the series over the Mets,
- 42:44Speaker 26: and now they return home to host the White Sox
- 42:46Speaker 26: for four. Details coming up.
- 42:48Speaker 27: If you have IRS problems, you have legal problems, and
- 42:50Speaker 27: you need an attorney. Hi, I'm Dallas tax attorney Nick Namath.

- 43:18Speaker 26: The Houston Astros used a pair of clutch swings late
- 43:20Speaker 26: in the game yesterday to get the series win over
- 43:23Speaker 26: the New York Mets by a final score of 6-3.
- 43:25Speaker 26: Jeremy Pena wasted no time getting Houston on the board
- 43:28Speaker 26: with a leadoff homer to start the game. The Mets
- 43:30Speaker 26: took the lead right after in the bottom first with
- 43:32Speaker 26: a pair of solo homers from Francisco Odendor and Juan Soto.
- 43:36Speaker 26: Pena would add another RBI with a single in the
- 43:38Speaker 26: top second to tie things up, but then New York
- 43:40Speaker 26: would get the lead again after an RBI groundout in
- 43:42Speaker 26: the bottom fifth. Then in the sixth, Lamont Wade Jr.
- 43:45Speaker 26: would put the Astros in front for good with a
- 43:47Speaker 26: two-run homer.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Late night, Lamont.
- 43:50Speaker 13: In the middle of the daytime.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Top tank, two-run pinch hit, Homer.
- 43:55Speaker 26: Houston would go on to secure the win with another
- 43:57Speaker 26: pair of runs off throwing errors by the Mets in
- 43:59Speaker 26: the seventh. The Astros return home for a four-game series
- 44:02Speaker 26: against the White Sox. Now, first pitch set for 7-10 tonight.
- 44:05Speaker 26: With your Houston Astros report, I'm Jett Nelson.
- 44:08Speaker 9: Howdy, this is Aaron Fletcher with Citizen State Bank fighting

- 44:46Speaker 10: Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene I'm begging of you, please don't
- 44:54Speaker 10: take my man Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Jolene Please don't take
- 45:05Speaker 10: him just because you can Your beauty is beyond.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Compare So Friday, for the first time in... Apple Music History,
- 45:19Speaker 1: the top 10 downloaded songs were all from Dolly Parton.
- 45:26Speaker 1: I mean, that's never happened before. That's pretty freaking amazing
- 45:35Speaker 1: when you think about it. Okay, let's do this. Let's listen.
- 45:42Speaker 1: By the way, the other story from Coach Elko, besides
- 45:45Speaker 1: the place kicker, he did say if it were today,
- 45:50Speaker 1: Damian Sanford would start. He said it'll be a game-time decision,
- 45:54Speaker 1: but he expects him to play the linebacker on Saturday.
- 46:00Speaker 1: It's great news for the Aggie defense. All right, Jamari
- 46:05Speaker 1: and Mauro, let's hear from the running backs.
- 46:09Speaker 2: This camp in life.
- 46:10Speaker 17: For you and like just what have you seen from
- 46:13Speaker 17: yourself mentally as opposed to maybe freshman year as you're trying.
- 46:17Speaker 2: To get into it I would say mentally.
- 46:23Speaker 4: Just taking on a bigger role this year. I feel
- 46:25Speaker 4: like I was just a freshman last year and now
- 46:27Speaker 4: I'm an older guy in the room. Just taking on
- 46:29Speaker 4: a bigger role, trying to understand situations that I'd be
- 46:32Speaker 4: in that I wouldn't be in last year. With the
- 46:34Speaker 4: older room, I've been getting a lot of those situations
- 46:37Speaker 4: because of that. So I'm just trying to learn the
- 46:39Speaker 4: situations that I'll be in now.
- 46:41Speaker 17: Has physically it kind of been the same kind of
- 46:43Speaker 17: rate of growth as well?
- 46:45Speaker 2: You said what?
- 46:46Speaker 17: Physically the same rate of growth that you had mentally?
- 46:48Speaker 4: Yeah, bigger role as far as like, yeah, a lot
- 46:50Speaker 4: more hits, a lot more tackles, yeah, a lot more time.
- 46:53Speaker 2: With the ball, yeah. You got to take on that
- 46:55Speaker 2: time to like recover and stuff like that, yeah.
- 46:57Speaker 1: Give us an evaluation, your evaluation of that and running
- 47:01Speaker 1: back individually.
- 47:02Speaker 2: I would say we got like....
- 47:05Speaker 4: A lot of explosive guys as far as, we got
- 47:08Speaker 4: Carson Baker, a lot of them young guys, they explosive.
- 47:10Speaker 2: They got them young legs, yeah, they're explosive. We got
- 47:13Speaker 2: what we can do. Yeah, I'm just trying to find
- 47:15Speaker 2: my place in there. Who's the biggest big play threat
- 47:18Speaker 2: in that room? I said you. I said we all
- 47:22Speaker 2: make plays. We all make plays. I'm kind of interested
- 47:25Speaker 2: in the way that you complement each other. What makes
- 47:27Speaker 2: those skill sets different?
- 47:29Speaker 1: How good can it be to kind of change the base.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Once you're in it? I would say we play a
- 47:34Speaker 2: lot similar. He got a little more, you know, like,
- 47:36Speaker 2: I don't know how to, like.
- 47:38Speaker 4: We play a lot similar, so, like, I don't think
- 47:40Speaker 4: it's a drop-off when somebody else gets in.
- 47:42Speaker 2: It's pretty much the same.
- 47:43Speaker 24: Tariq, what do you think has been the biggest lesson
- 47:45Speaker 24: you're taking away from Hallman Wiggins, the offensive coordinator?
- 47:50Speaker 4: The biggest takeaway is, like, just the mentality that he has.
- 47:53Speaker 4: Just his mentality is a little bit different than what I'm.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Used to in office equipment.
- 47:59Speaker 17: This offseason, it seemed you put in some work with
- 48:01Speaker 17: the work my receiver coach, what made you want to
- 48:03Speaker 17: do that?
- 48:04Speaker 15: And kind of just how beneficial was getting some of that.
- 48:07Speaker 4: Work with him? I was just looking for extra work.
- 48:09Speaker 4: I was just up here and AJ happened to be
- 48:12Speaker 4: here with him. And I just, yeah, I was just looking.
- 48:15Speaker 2: For some work. And how much, how open does that work?
- 48:17Speaker 24: How much more full of a threat can you be
- 48:19Speaker 24: now as a pass catcher and somebody can run routes
- 48:22Speaker 24: on the backfield?
- 48:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I played a lot of receiver in high school,
- 48:24Speaker 2: so yeah, it was second nature.
- 48:26Speaker 19: What do you feel like has been maybe the biggest
- 48:29Speaker 19: points of emphasis for you this offseason, the ways you
- 48:31Speaker 19: wanted to grow and improve your game?
- 48:34Speaker 4: I would say mentally, as far as, like I said before,
- 48:37Speaker 4: trying to understand those situations that I would be in,
- 48:41Speaker 4: like those, like I went in a goal line a
- 48:44Speaker 4: lot last year, wasn't in those, like when a game
- 48:47Speaker 4: on the line type of plays, I went in.
- 48:48Speaker 2: For those situations, just trying to prepare myself for those situations.
- 48:52Speaker 19: Reuben was pretty open with us toward the beginning of
- 48:55Speaker 19: fall camp, but just about some of the ways he
- 48:57Speaker 19: wants to improve as a player.
- 48:58Speaker 2: What have you seen from.
- 48:59Speaker 19: Him this offseason, the way he's maybe grown on the
- 49:02Speaker 19: field and maybe as a leader as well?
- 49:04Speaker 2: I know balance was a big thing for him.
- 49:06Speaker 4: He was trying to, like, get better on his balance,
- 49:08Speaker 4: and I feel like I ain't really seen him fall
- 49:10Speaker 4: much this whole camp or in.
- 49:11Speaker 2: The spring, really. I know that was a big emphasis
- 49:13Speaker 2: for him.
- 49:14Speaker 4: And I just say that leader role as far as
- 49:15Speaker 4: him being an older guy now in the room, he
- 49:18Speaker 4: just took on that role perfectly.
- 49:20Speaker 15: Is Tiger Wright one of those guys that you can
- 49:21Speaker 15: see feeling like a power back role or you need
- 49:24Speaker 15: a couple yards.
- 49:26Speaker 2: To get in? Yeah, Tiger, he's all around back as well.
- 49:28Speaker 4: Yeah, he's really good when it comes to those short
- 49:31Speaker 4: yardage plays and those pass rotations.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Yeah, he's been doing really well.
- 49:36Speaker 19: What is it about Carson and KJ in particular, the
- 49:39Speaker 19: true freshman guys, but seem to have the ability to
- 49:43Speaker 19: maybe impact you guys this fall?
- 49:45Speaker 4: Yeah, they've been catching on really well. They catch on
- 49:47Speaker 4: really fast, I would say. Just like me and Tiger
- 49:49Speaker 4: was our freshman year, I feel like they've been catching
- 49:52Speaker 4: on really fast, and they fast in general.
- 49:55Speaker 2: You're talking about Ruben working on his contact balance.
- 49:57Speaker 1: As a running back, is that something you can really
- 49:59Speaker 1: kind of work on, or is that more a natural ability?
- 50:03Speaker 4: I feel like he could work on it as well,
- 50:04Speaker 4: like just focusing in on it would definitely help, just
- 50:07Speaker 4: trying not to fall or just working on it.
- 50:10Speaker 19: How would you describe Ruben's leadership style and just kind
- 50:14Speaker 19: of the way he's grown in that area?
- 50:17Speaker 2: I'd say he leads by example. We don't nominate a
- 50:19Speaker 2: man a lot of words. Yeah, he leads by example.
- 50:22Speaker 2: From your perspective, how's the offensive line been coming along?
- 50:26Speaker 2: And just how many guys in front have you really
- 50:28Speaker 2: seen working that could impact this team?
- 50:31Speaker 4: I feel like we have a lot of depth as
- 50:32Speaker 4: far as in our O-line room, and they've been moving
- 50:34Speaker 4: people as far as when they come to the run game.
- 50:37Speaker 2: That's a big thing that I see from the O-line.
- 50:39Speaker 15: You've seen a lot of guys come in with a
- 50:41Speaker 15: lot of flashy cleats.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Those are pretty old school. What about with that choice?
- 50:46Speaker 2: Just practice. I ain't really looking to shine too much.
- 50:51Speaker 1: That's Jamari and Mauro. And just looking at the depth chart,
- 50:57Speaker 1: which– You take with a grain of salt, frankly, and
- 51:01Speaker 1: we know up front Elko is going to play a
- 51:04Speaker 1: lot of different guys, and he may move some guys
- 51:06Speaker 1: in position. He has always done that. Michael Riley, one
- 51:13Speaker 1: of the captains, Richie Anderson, Houston Thomas at tight ends.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Tyree Adams is listed as a starting left tackle. Blake Ivey,
- 51:24Speaker 1: Tyler Thomas at guard, Mark Naboo, of course, at center.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Cohen Echols is listed as the backup center, but also
- 51:31Speaker 1: a backup right guard behind Trevon Baugh. And then, of course,
- 51:37Speaker 1: Wilcom Formby at tackle. So that's the depth chart, along
- 51:43Speaker 1: with Reed Owens, Mario Craver, Isaiah Horton, Ashton Bethel-Roman. And
- 51:51Speaker 1: then returns Mario Craver, Terry Bussey, Isaiah Horton. all mentioned
- 51:59Speaker 1: as punt returners, and then Bussey and Ashton Bethel-Roman as
- 52:05Speaker 1: kick returners. Okay. So that's what we got there. Let
- 52:15Speaker 1: me look at the ESPN crew that's going to be here.
- 52:20Speaker 1: See if I've got that written down somewhere. I don't
- 52:24Speaker 1: know if I've got that written down. Let me double
- 52:27Speaker 1: check on that. Oh, yeah, I do. Lowell Galindo, Kirk Morrison,
- 52:38Speaker 1: and Don Davenport. I don't know Don Davenport or Kirk Morrison.
- 52:45Speaker 1: I know Lowell Galindo because he worked for the Longhorn
- 52:53Speaker 1: Network before they went out of business with the SEC.
- 52:58Speaker 1: But it has maintained play-by-play duties with ESPN. I will
- 53:07Speaker 1: have all of the games listed. I haven't printed all
- 53:10Speaker 1: that out yet. But I know we start on Thursday evening.
- 53:14Speaker 1: I know we've got Friday evening games. Obviously, all day Saturday,
- 53:19Speaker 1: we've got Sunday game, and we have a Monday night game.
- 53:22Speaker 1: And that Monday night game is SMU Florida State, I think.
- 53:27Speaker 1: I put that on our Friday's Fairless. Is that Monday night, Stan?
- 53:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's Monday night before State.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I thought so. So that means I won't award
- 53:43Speaker 1: your weekly prize until Tuesday for those of you who
- 53:47Speaker 1: are playing The Feud. Okay. Labor Day weekend is usually
- 53:55Speaker 1: a pretty good weekend for For football, there aren't tons
- 54:00Speaker 1: of great games. I mean, LSU-Clemson, Louisville-Ole Miss, SMU-Florida State,
- 54:10Speaker 1: in my mind, are probably the three best games involving
- 54:15Speaker 1: top 25 teams. I think those are probably the games
- 54:22Speaker 1: that we focused in on. There weren't a lot of
- 54:25Speaker 1: great games this weekend. There was, you know, there was
- 54:30Speaker 1: our share of ugly football this weekend. And I saw
- 54:37Speaker 1: where it, they had a graphic on the TCU game
- 54:41Speaker 1: in Dublin. It rains 200 and, let's see, 265 days
- 54:48Speaker 1: a year in Dublin. So two-thirds, almost two-thirds of the game,
- 54:55Speaker 1: two out of every three days it's raining in Dublin.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Second year in a row they played in the rain,
- 54:59Speaker 1: and the second year in a row the game hasn't
- 55:01Speaker 1: been real entertaining, let's put it that way. But it
- 55:04Speaker 1: may have to do with the teams. Last year was
- 55:06Speaker 1: Iowa State and Kansas State. Those were two bad teams.
- 55:10Speaker 1: This year is TCU and North Carolina, and I think
- 55:13Speaker 1: probably still two bad teams. Oliver Brothers has been part
- 55:19Speaker 1: of our community for well over 50 years. Larry Haygood
- 55:26Speaker 1: and his staff there on Cavit go to work every day,
- 55:30Speaker 1: ASC certified mechanics, to make sure you're going to be satisfied.
- 55:35Speaker 1: Free diagnostic tests, rebuild services for automatic transmission, manual transmission service.
- 55:44Speaker 1: This business has been in the heart of Brian all
- 55:47Speaker 1: these years.
- 55:49Speaker 2: So.
- 55:51Speaker 1: You have transmission difficulties, this is the place to go.
- 55:54Speaker 1: You want to avoid transmission difficulties, this is the place
- 55:58Speaker 1: to go. Go see Larry and the staff at Oliver Brothers,
- 56:03Speaker 1: 2107 Cabot and Bryan, and see why they say no
