- 0:00Speaker 1: This podcast was recorded on worundry Land Always was, Always
- 0:05Speaker 1: will be Aboriginal Land. Hey cheeks, I'm soal and this
- 0:15Speaker 1: is two Broke Chicks to show that shares life lessons
- 0:17Speaker 1: and tips to help make you rich in life. And
- 0:20Speaker 1: today we are joined by Louis Bourke, an interior design
- 0:23Speaker 1: expert whose emo is to transform a space into a home,
- 0:27Speaker 1: whether it's your bedroom, sharehouse, rental, or your very first home.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Wouldn't that be nice? Yeah, welcome Louis Hillo. Oh my gosh,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm so excited. I feel like we're obsessed already.
- 0:39Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:40Speaker 4: My favorite thing is like I kind of can't wait
- 0:42Speaker 4: to get roasted. Yeah, I'm like, please like roast my
- 0:47Speaker 4: interior designing opinions. I'm ready, yeah, yeah, yeah about this.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Okay, that's my.
- 0:53Speaker 5: Consent anonymous submissions, but yeahpy to do it in person.
- 0:56Speaker 2: No face to face. We should have brought like a
- 0:59Speaker 2: mood Borderer apartment.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Literally you're like, no, you'll have to pay for that.
- 1:06Speaker 2: I'll send you my rates. It was you exactly that.
- 1:11Speaker 2: We love it.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but before we get into all the interior design talk,
- 1:14Speaker 1: we do start with a life lesson of the week,
- 1:16Speaker 1: So as our guest, would you like.
- 1:17Speaker 2: To kick yourself?
- 1:18Speaker 3: Sure?
- 1:19Speaker 5: My life lesson of the week is don't save the
- 1:22Speaker 5: good stuff for a special occasion.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Love this.
- 1:25Speaker 5: Yeah, So, like you know, traditionally it might be like
- 1:27Speaker 5: your NN's like fine china or crystal glassware, but it
- 1:29Speaker 5: can actually just be something really simple, like that really
- 1:31Speaker 5: good olive oil that you've got, or that candle you've
- 1:34Speaker 5: been saving that a Frank gifted you. Just light the candle,
- 1:38Speaker 5: use the olive oil.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I like that.
- 1:40Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, in the corner that we're like, I don't
- 1:44Speaker 5: want to touch that one.
- 1:45Speaker 3: Yeah, here's your best stuff.
- 1:49Speaker 2: But that's why you pay for it as well.
- 1:51Speaker 1: It has been tasing her life lesson for like days now, So.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Tell me what it is.
- 1:57Speaker 1: We were in the car the other day and it's one
- 1:59Speaker 1: of my favorite songs is Shine by Vanessa Amorrossi. Just
- 2:03Speaker 1: so we have the context, Okay, here's.
- 2:05Speaker 2: A bit.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Every Shine, everyone you see, everyone you know is going
- 2:14Speaker 4: to shine. The original lyrics to the iconic Shine by
- 2:20Speaker 4: Vanessa Amorossi was not, in fact shine, It was everyone
- 2:25Speaker 4: you see, everyone you know is going to die, something
- 2:33Speaker 4: like everybody, everyone you knows going to die, And it's
- 2:37Speaker 4: like this this sentiment that's like you don't know how
- 2:41Speaker 4: many days you have left, I like it's.
- 2:44Speaker 1: Your last, and like appreciate the people around the people
- 2:47Speaker 1: around you.
- 2:48Speaker 2: But then my fucked up head was like, yeah, all
- 2:51Speaker 2: those people that are mean to me and have wronged me.
- 2:54Speaker 4: Everyone, you see, everyone knows they're gonna die.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You could look at it both ways.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Okay, Wait, so did she write the song and originally
- 3:03Speaker 1: the lyric was die and then her record label was
- 3:05Speaker 1: like yes, I don't know how much, and you know
- 3:08Speaker 1: she changed it Mark from Australian.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Idol Oh my god, because he was producing the song.
- 3:15Speaker 2: He was working with her on it and they thought
- 3:17Speaker 2: it was too dark. So I believe the song.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Was originally written for a friend that had passed away suddenly.
- 3:26Speaker 3: And so similar.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Burn the candle, everyone's going to die.
- 3:35Speaker 3: And that live like it.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Yes, yes, yes, okay, My life lesson is actually I
- 3:42Speaker 1: decided to switch it out because I want to get
- 3:44Speaker 1: the chicks opinions and it's what we were talking about
- 3:46Speaker 1: just before, and it's also on the topic of death
- 3:51Speaker 1: macarb today. So the question I want to post to
- 3:54Speaker 1: the chicks is that when you pass away, will you
- 3:58Speaker 1: or won't you get a fake tan.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Great question.
- 4:03Speaker 1: So obviously a lot of people if they're having an
- 4:05Speaker 1: open casket, you know, they get their hair and their
- 4:08Speaker 1: makeup done like that is a very common practice and
- 4:10Speaker 1: apparently those make up artists are very good. Oh the
- 4:14Speaker 1: question to the cheeks. Let us know in the comments
- 4:16Speaker 1: on Spotify, would you or wouldn't you ask for it?
- 4:20Speaker 2: And a fake tan? And around the room was it?
- 4:23Speaker 2: Did we all say? Yes?
- 4:24Speaker 3: Why is just buffet down? Yeah?
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a good idea, Like body, just cans and neck? Yeah,
- 4:32Speaker 1: just put me in like kind of like a full
- 4:33Speaker 1: covered outfit.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And then yet hands and neck. I think'd I've got
- 4:37Speaker 2: great boobs? Well you could just go down.
- 4:39Speaker 3: To the deck.
- 4:40Speaker 2: Yeah I want I want to push bra when I died. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:44Speaker 2: put them up. Yeah, I'm going to put some light
- 4:46Speaker 2: little chicken filets in.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Just give it extra give it the world one last look.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Let's get into it. So let's take it all back to.
- 4:59Speaker 2: When you became the daddy of home and hosting.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Change it from friend to home and hosting.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Just dy daddy, Dabby rebrand.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Like I said that in one of my things, I
- 5:12Speaker 5: did an outfit of the day and I was like,
- 5:13Speaker 5: it's kind of giving dad vies.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Yeah at the I'm young, Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I like yeese is cool, Dad, I like it.
- 5:21Speaker 2: I like it. Where did your love for interior designing
- 5:24Speaker 2: all start?
- 5:24Speaker 3: Well, it was kind of like a full circle moment.
- 5:27Speaker 5: So originally I'm from the Hunter Valley in South Wales,
- 5:30Speaker 5: so I grew up there. My parents had a nursery,
- 5:32Speaker 5: but then my dad was a carpenter and my mom
- 5:34Speaker 5: was a horticulturist. But then my dad and they always
- 5:37Speaker 5: dreamed of having a restaurant, so my dad built a
- 5:39Speaker 5: restaurant and accommodation. So from a really young age, I
- 5:43Speaker 5: was already setting tables, flowers and weddings, making the beds.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Like it sounds really romantic, but it was like family
- 5:49Speaker 5: business vibes.
- 5:51Speaker 3: To turn these over.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Every day in your house, like a mum on Christmas morning,
- 5:56Speaker 1: you know how like on Christmas morning where moms are
- 5:59Speaker 1: like it cannot look like anybody lives here.
- 6:02Speaker 5: Literally, was that like just your Yeah, because like we
- 6:05Speaker 5: were doing weddings, you always get the energy of peoplere
- 6:07Speaker 5: being like nervous for their big day and like setting
- 6:09Speaker 5: it up so you know, and then setting up for
- 6:11Speaker 5: dinner servers and stuff like that.
- 6:12Speaker 3: But it was kind of weird.
- 6:13Speaker 5: That, Like when I turned twenty, I was like, like
- 6:15Speaker 5: every country kid, it's like I want to get out.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I want to go to the city, big city.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:19Speaker 5: So I moved to Melbourne and did a design degree
- 6:21Speaker 5: over at White House and then worked in marketing and
- 6:24Speaker 5: did a few things like that, but then to end
- 6:26Speaker 5: up here now doing like making bed setting tables and
- 6:29Speaker 5: flowers online.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Do you know what I mean?
- 6:32Speaker 2: Yeah, full circle moment.
- 6:34Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, so I'm I started. It's always been around.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Yeah, literally in your blood.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Really that's so beautiful.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And you often talk about elevating everyday moments. Can you
- 6:46Speaker 1: talk us through what does that mean and how.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Can you do that?
- 6:49Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 6:49Speaker 5: So elevating every day is it from the og Martha Stewart.
- 6:52Speaker 5: That's her one miner and also a very good thing.
- 6:54Speaker 5: So I love that that's her thing. But I think
- 6:57Speaker 5: elevating every day is like those small gestures, like, for instance,
- 7:00Speaker 5: like this week, when I was saying, use the special
- 7:03Speaker 5: things on the regular, like when you have breakfast, I've
- 7:05Speaker 5: been doing soups in the morning, but instead of just
- 7:07Speaker 5: having soup and a playing bowl, I've done like soup
- 7:09Speaker 5: and then I do a plate underneath.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Hold on, oh, soup for breakfast.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Tomato?
- 7:16Speaker 5: I like, yeah, or a pumpkin soup because you know,
- 7:19Speaker 5: like sometimes you go to a cafe and they have
- 7:20Speaker 5: like a special and it's just soup.
- 7:21Speaker 3: I was like, why can't I do that at home?
- 7:23Speaker 1: That is so beautiful and hearty in the morning, especial
- 7:27Speaker 1: because it's cold.
- 7:28Speaker 3: It's because you guys are in Sydney.
- 7:30Speaker 2: If I never thought of this.
- 7:32Speaker 5: You can buy like a sour dough, you know what
- 7:34Speaker 5: I mean, from coals and woolies and they're not that expensive,
- 7:36Speaker 5: you know, And then like you put the bowl and
- 7:38Speaker 5: then a plate and you like cut up the bread
- 7:40Speaker 5: and put it on the side and you sit it
- 7:41Speaker 5: down and like, honestly, there are one that's in like
- 7:43Speaker 5: a fabric napkin.
- 7:45Speaker 3: Gentlemen.
- 7:45Speaker 5: You chuck it in the laundry with everything else. But
- 7:47Speaker 5: it's having it there with you, just like you know
- 7:49Speaker 5: what I mean.
- 7:49Speaker 3: It's like setting up you're out at like you're at
- 7:52Speaker 3: a cafe, but you're at home.
- 7:53Speaker 4: You know.
- 7:53Speaker 2: That's very romanticizing your morning. Yeah, I'm into it.
- 7:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's and like just other small things
- 8:00Speaker 5: so like like lighting the candle if you're working from home,
- 8:04Speaker 5: like just making the intention to do it. I know,
- 8:06Speaker 5: sometimes you have to sit there for like two hours
- 8:07Speaker 5: because you don't want it to tunnel and stuff like that.
- 8:11Speaker 5: Putting on a playlist when friends come over, by dinner
- 8:13Speaker 5: with friends in the background.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I like putting on like ambience as well, like
- 8:19Speaker 4: when you put on the fireplace that's like the four
- 8:21Speaker 4: hour long YouTube video and having like the fire like
- 8:24Speaker 4: cracks or like the rain ambience.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Og YouTuber background. Yeah.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, here, guys, that's me every day summer and people like,
- 8:35Speaker 4: what is wrong with you?
- 8:35Speaker 2: I'm like, please, I need this.
- 8:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 8:38Speaker 5: Even just like the closing shift, like at night, like
- 8:41Speaker 5: when you got lamps on, you're going to turn the
- 8:43Speaker 5: lamps off and stuff like that. Yes, I know that
- 8:45Speaker 5: sounds funny, but it feels like elevated. I've got like
- 8:47Speaker 5: twelve lamps in my house and I've got them all
- 8:50Speaker 5: connected to the Genio light globes because then you can
- 8:52Speaker 5: connect it to Google. So then when you go, hey, Google,
- 8:54Speaker 5: good night, it turns off.
- 8:55Speaker 3: All the lamps. Its rain noise. It's amazing.
- 8:59Speaker 5: You've got to set up Google Home with the Guinio
- 9:01Speaker 5: globes I love. And they can adjust the brightness.
- 9:03Speaker 2: With your voice.
- 9:05Speaker 3: No, can you do that with the phone? And you
- 9:07Speaker 3: can do it in the Google Justice easy.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my god.
- 9:10Speaker 5: That I've even got like my outdoor light, so if
- 9:12Speaker 5: I'm coming home from the gym, I'll like turn it
- 9:14Speaker 5: on before I get home, so and then all the
- 9:16Speaker 5: lights are on when I get home.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:18Speaker 2: I think that is absolutely worth the splurge. Like I'm
- 9:20Speaker 2: a smart girl.
- 9:21Speaker 3: And they last forever.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I've had some that I've had from like
- 9:24Speaker 5: three places ago that I've just moved with me.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Anything is that you have the different Bayonet one so
- 9:30Speaker 5: you end up with like a whole collection.
- 9:32Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's worth it.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And just make sure you double check what type of
- 9:37Speaker 1: light globe you need because the amount of times I've.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Bought the wrong one. I've been like they're on sale
- 9:43Speaker 2: and I buy like four and I'm like, damn it. Yeah,
- 9:46Speaker 2: but I love that you even will say.
- 9:49Speaker 1: Good night, Google, and that's sometimes that I'm going not
- 9:51Speaker 1: like Google turn the lights off even just like every listening.
- 9:55Speaker 5: To this, everyone's Google, because I like when I'm live
- 10:00Speaker 5: and stuff like that, I'll say like hey Google, and
- 10:02Speaker 5: then like you just set off my Google.
- 10:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 10:05Speaker 1: So we've just been talking earlier before this as well
- 10:08Speaker 1: about we do see trends in home and interior as well.
- 10:11Speaker 2: What trends are you seeing at the moment?
- 10:13Speaker 5: Oh my god, I think there's so many. And I
- 10:14Speaker 5: also love that the trends in fashion and home kind
- 10:17Speaker 5: of plate what.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Ones do you love and what ones do you hate? Oh?
- 10:20Speaker 3: Okay, Like I think the ones that I love.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Like that came through with fashion at home was like red,
- 10:25Speaker 5: Like last year and winter were wearing red, but then
- 10:26Speaker 5: there was also the pop of red theory.
- 10:29Speaker 3: Yeah, when we put injective bit of red in the.
- 10:31Speaker 2: Hole, the other unexpected red theory.
- 10:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I've also seen that with like blue and with green
- 10:37Speaker 1: as well. So does it really apply to any color
- 10:39Speaker 1: that's going to sort of be a surprise in an
- 10:41Speaker 1: otherwise tonal space.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Red and blue I can understand, But the green, I
- 10:45Speaker 5: think people just latch onto something. Go I'm going to
- 10:47Speaker 5: do this now. But I think green is a really
- 10:49Speaker 5: good introductory color that people usually lean to when they
- 10:52Speaker 5: want to incorporate color in their.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Space because it feels a bit more natural.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Exactly yeah, it's more like the earth tones.
- 10:58Speaker 5: But yeah with the other trends, like like the thing
- 11:00Speaker 5: that I've been loving lately, which is like a trend, but.
- 11:02Speaker 3: It all depends on where you live as well.
- 11:04Speaker 5: But like, for instance, I've just recently moved closer to
- 11:06Speaker 5: the beach, so I'm getting fed all these tiktoks where
- 11:09Speaker 5: it's like beat, like coastal beatnick, whereas we call them
- 11:13Speaker 5: beach bums.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I guess like it's like.
- 11:14Speaker 2: That coastal grandma.
- 11:15Speaker 5: Yeah, and I really love it because there's been that
- 11:18Speaker 5: resurgence of like Ralph Lauren and that traditional style. But
- 11:20Speaker 5: the thing I like about the beach beatnick is that
- 11:23Speaker 5: it's more relaxed and effortless, so it's not just like
- 11:26Speaker 5: rigid and put together like when you think of traditional style,
- 11:30Speaker 5: I can feel a bit stuffy, but when you give
- 11:32Speaker 5: it like a coastal feel, it feels a lot more relaxed.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I feel like that's a bit more Australian too, where
- 11:37Speaker 1: the coastal grandma aesthetic is very American, like I say,
- 11:41Speaker 1: people like Cape Cod or like this summer coastal main Yeah,
- 11:45Speaker 1: like very that, whereas Australian coastal vibes is a bit different.
- 11:49Speaker 5: Yeah, and I think it also stems from like Boho
- 11:51Speaker 5: coming back in fashion as well. It's that relaxed, effort
- 11:54Speaker 5: less white linen kind of like layers, like I found
- 11:57Speaker 5: like I'm like really leaning on white linen bedlinen the moment,
- 12:00Speaker 5: but I've been obsessed with color previously, but I'm kind
- 12:03Speaker 5: of like interchanging between the two, Whereas like for a
- 12:04Speaker 5: couple of years I was like, I'm not doing any white, but.
- 12:08Speaker 4: What are some of the like trends in home whereas
- 12:10Speaker 4: that you think are going to be evergreen that is
- 12:12Speaker 4: good to invest in.
- 12:14Speaker 5: Well, I think the trend that I'm loving the most
- 12:16Speaker 5: in terms of like particularly furniture, is we're seeing a
- 12:18Speaker 5: lot more people buying secondhand furniture from all different eras
- 12:22Speaker 5: as well, so stuff that's more traditional like Victorian, stuff
- 12:24Speaker 5: that's more mid century modern. And I love that we're
- 12:26Speaker 5: kind of like chucking in our houses and it's mixing
- 12:29Speaker 5: and matching.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I think that's.
- 12:30Speaker 5: Here to probably stay because I feel like we're a
- 12:32Speaker 5: lot more conscious of that and also because of the
- 12:34Speaker 5: cost of living, we want to pick up stuff that's
- 12:37Speaker 5: secondhand but also durable and it's going to last a
- 12:39Speaker 5: long time.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:40Speaker 5: I feel like we're also a lot more conscious of
- 12:41Speaker 5: the materials. Like there's again with fashion, people are more
- 12:44Speaker 5: conscious like what's this top made of?
- 12:46Speaker 3: Like what am I going to buy? Is it? You know?
- 12:48Speaker 3: Blah blah blah. So yeah, I think that's here to stay.
- 12:51Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think thrifting has also had such a
- 12:54Speaker 4: link to dopamine de corps, yes, and that like inner
- 12:58Speaker 4: child thing of you know how we've seen so much
- 13:00Speaker 4: like sunny angels and La booboos and yellicats. I think
- 13:02Speaker 4: that also is coming in with decor and how people
- 13:05Speaker 4: are leaning into color more and having more fun with
- 13:08Speaker 4: it and with they're thrifting. But we have to talk
- 13:11Speaker 4: about millennial beige and how millennial beige is like an
- 13:15Speaker 4: interior designed slur.
- 13:17Speaker 2: And I've also seen recently gen Zed's sage green.
- 13:22Speaker 4: How like millennials have millennial beige and then gen Z
- 13:26Speaker 4: have sage green.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's like their colors.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 5: I feel like it really started with gray like the millennials,
- 13:33Speaker 5: and then it kind of went beige. But like, and
- 13:35Speaker 5: that goes to show with trends, like they come in cycles,
- 13:37Speaker 5: so it goes as far as it can go one
- 13:38Speaker 5: way and then it flips back to the other, Like
- 13:41Speaker 5: gray is really cool toned and like blue bass, whereas
- 13:43Speaker 5: beige is more brown tone and really warm. So throughout
- 13:46Speaker 5: the early two thousands we had like ultra minimalism. Everything
- 13:48Speaker 5: was cool toned white, like really stark whites, really cool
- 13:52Speaker 5: tone grays, and then it were flipped where we're doing
- 13:54Speaker 5: like creamy walls. Like the Renter beige is actually in now,
- 13:57Speaker 5: like people are asking like what colors are wa and.
- 14:00Speaker 3: It's like it's just that classic rent of beige. But
- 14:02Speaker 3: because it's now backing in.
- 14:03Speaker 4: Do you know so those who do feel like they're
- 14:07Speaker 4: surrounded by millennial beige and want to play with more
- 14:10Speaker 4: color in their home, what would you recommend?
- 14:13Speaker 2: I know you said green's a good entry level color.
- 14:15Speaker 5: Yeah, so like the earth like coming from someone because
- 14:17Speaker 5: like I said, I'm a originally from New South Wales
- 14:19Speaker 5: and I feel like naturally we are a little bit
- 14:20Speaker 5: more coastal. Like when I moved to Melbourne, I was
- 14:22Speaker 5: shocked because everything he's like art deco and like jewel tones,
- 14:25Speaker 5: and I was like playing with like velvet chairs and
- 14:27Speaker 5: I was like, what is this?
- 14:28Speaker 3: What is this world? But I was like, I was interested,
- 14:31Speaker 3: do you know what I mean?
- 14:32Speaker 5: So I think the best, like my what I recommend
- 14:35Speaker 5: to people is go with sheet sets. First, get like
- 14:37Speaker 5: a really colorful sheet set, because I think nine times
- 14:40Speaker 5: out of ten we get we're worried we're going to
- 14:41Speaker 5: get sick of the color. So if you put it
- 14:43Speaker 5: on sheets, you can cover it with like a natural dona,
- 14:46Speaker 5: like a white doner with pink sheets, save for instance,
- 14:49Speaker 5: you're gonna swap it out every week, so you don't
- 14:51Speaker 5: really get over it as quickly. And then you can
- 14:53Speaker 5: move into other stuff, which could be more like, for instance,
- 14:56Speaker 5: you give someone like a candle that's a vibrant color,
- 14:58Speaker 5: because you're gonna use the candle and get rid of it. Yeah,
- 15:00Speaker 5: then you can go into homeworks because I think some
- 15:02Speaker 5: people will instantly go get some cushions, but cushions are
- 15:05Speaker 5: kind of not cheap, especially like good ones, and you
- 15:07Speaker 5: can get sick of them really quick. So I think
- 15:09Speaker 5: also to play with the seasons, so adult colors that
- 15:12Speaker 5: kind of play with what's going on outside. So in summer,
- 15:14Speaker 5: you can do lighter sages, you can do the sky blues,
- 15:17Speaker 5: you can mix it with whites and naturals. Then in
- 15:19Speaker 5: winter you can do more of the browns, the burgundies,
- 15:22Speaker 5: the plums, so then you know, okay, cool, at least
- 15:24Speaker 5: once the season ends, I can swap it out.
- 15:27Speaker 3: Yeah. I think a lot of people don't talk about
- 15:29Speaker 3: that aspect. Maybe I like.
- 15:31Speaker 4: That because as well, it's not like you can kind
- 15:34Speaker 4: of see like one inspo pick on Pinterest of like
- 15:36Speaker 4: a blue couch and you're like, I'm going to get.
- 15:38Speaker 2: A blue coow.
- 15:39Speaker 5: Yeah, And I think the thing is really set up
- 15:40Speaker 5: your whole space first before you jump, like like you
- 15:45Speaker 5: can get a colorful piece of furniture. But the thing is,
- 15:48Speaker 5: it's a lot more money to buy an expensive piece
- 15:50Speaker 5: of furniture like a chair or a sofa, And if
- 15:52Speaker 5: you haven't got the whole space developed yet and you're
- 15:54Speaker 5: still discovering your style, you just don't really want to
- 15:56Speaker 5: regret that choice later on. I think it's better to
- 15:58Speaker 5: get your whole space sort of set up and get
- 16:00Speaker 5: an idea of where you're going through home weares like
- 16:02Speaker 5: Hold of Its Home Wears, then bring in those character
- 16:05Speaker 5: pieces later because you don't really because for instance, buy.
- 16:08Speaker 3: Like a bright blue chair because you love it, but
- 16:10Speaker 3: then you're like, no, I've got nothing, like what's so
- 16:11Speaker 3: far am I going?
- 16:12Speaker 4: And you can also fall into the track, which I've
- 16:14Speaker 4: done because like when I was moving into my first place,
- 16:16Speaker 4: I was so excited to furnish the whole thing, and
- 16:19Speaker 4: I was on Facebook Marketplace. I basically ended up buying
- 16:23Speaker 4: all statement pieces and then.
- 16:25Speaker 2: Everything was in my space and I was like, oh, go,
- 16:30Speaker 2: she's good.
- 16:32Speaker 5: It didn't museum sort of style and cool, but.
- 16:37Speaker 2: It just nothing fit.
- 16:39Speaker 4: It was like statement pieces of all different aesthetics, which like, whatever,
- 16:43Speaker 4: if that's your vibe, go for it, But it just
- 16:45Speaker 4: didn't end up feeling very homey when it was too
- 16:49Speaker 4: mismatched to me.
- 16:51Speaker 2: And so, yeah, I think that's a really great piece
- 16:52Speaker 2: of alex take it. Yeah, I like that.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I even think you can experiment with florals as well,
- 16:58Speaker 1: if you want to test out how a color looks
- 17:00Speaker 1: in the space, like buy a bunch of flowers in
- 17:02Speaker 1: that time they like, Okay, how does like this bunch
- 17:06Speaker 1: of flowers look with the rest of my furniture. Called
- 17:08Speaker 1: then I can get a vase of that same thing
- 17:11Speaker 1: or a piece of artwork, and I know it's gonna
- 17:13Speaker 1: kind of work with.
- 17:14Speaker 4: It's creative of being like things that you can pull
- 17:16Speaker 4: in and also take away. So like waller, like obviously
- 17:20Speaker 4: if it's super expensive then maybe not. But yeah, but
- 17:24Speaker 4: like I mean, you can get some pretty affordable wall
- 17:26Speaker 4: out on like Etsy and things like that, or like
- 17:29Speaker 4: a candle that's like a I think it's.
- 17:31Speaker 3: About the commitment thing.
- 17:32Speaker 5: I think that's most of the time we're scared to
- 17:34Speaker 5: commit to the color. Forget things where it's not a
- 17:36Speaker 5: full commitment.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Commitment a week with flowers or yeah.
- 17:39Speaker 5: Season with this, you know what I mean, like a
- 17:42Speaker 5: sheet set that I'm going to change every week, you
- 17:43Speaker 5: know what I mean.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Also, don't forget about incorporating texture.
- 17:46Speaker 5: I think a lot of people go with color straight
- 17:48Speaker 5: away and it's like, but think about can I incorporate
- 17:49Speaker 5: different textures? So is it like a quilted color out,
- 17:52Speaker 5: do you know, I mean? Or is it like a
- 17:53Speaker 5: culter cushion or is it a furry one?
- 17:55Speaker 1: Do you know?
- 17:56Speaker 5: I mean, like it can be the same, because I
- 17:57Speaker 5: think people like all my space is based sometimes it's
- 18:01Speaker 5: because it's just flat because everything in there is all
- 18:04Speaker 5: the same surface. So been incorporating lots of layers it
- 18:07Speaker 5: makes it feel more warm and homey that way too.
- 18:09Speaker 1: But you know how we have capsule wardrobes, right, what
- 18:12Speaker 1: is your capsule home pieces for styling?
- 18:16Speaker 5: I feel like it's like I always have the three
- 18:18Speaker 5: things that I think that makes any space feel like
- 18:20Speaker 5: a room, which is rugs, using light shades as well,
- 18:23Speaker 5: and window treatments. And sometimes it can be tricky whether
- 18:26Speaker 5: you're renting where your own with these your first time
- 18:27Speaker 5: with things like that, but you can do lots of
- 18:29Speaker 5: dois like even when I've been renting, it's all you
- 18:32Speaker 5: can work with it, like command talks and stuff like that.
- 18:34Speaker 5: But as soon as you put in a rug, some
- 18:36Speaker 5: curtains and a light shade in the lamp, before you
- 18:39Speaker 5: even put furniture in the space, it already feels like
- 18:41Speaker 5: home because you've got those layers in there. So every
- 18:44Speaker 5: room should have those things based on it's like a bathroom.
- 18:47Speaker 5: But do you know, but like your living room, a
- 18:49Speaker 5: dining room, a bedroom should all have those three things.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Then you go into furniture because most of time people go,
- 18:53Speaker 5: I need a bed, I need I need a coffee table,
- 18:57Speaker 5: but they don't think about those other bits, which sometimes
- 18:59Speaker 5: can be a little bit pricey too, like rugs, aren't
- 19:02Speaker 5: necessarily the cheapest thing.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Sometimes if you get a really.
- 19:04Speaker 5: Good rug and then you get like a Facebook marketplace
- 19:08Speaker 5: find so far, it's like, oh thank god I got
- 19:10Speaker 5: that rug when I did?
- 19:11Speaker 3: You know what I mean?
- 19:12Speaker 5: You move into different places then I was I would
- 19:15Speaker 5: normally go more neutral when it comes to the furniture pieces,
- 19:18Speaker 5: but keep it more in the natural materials as well,
- 19:21Speaker 5: and then you accent with your throws, your cushions, your vases,
- 19:25Speaker 5: like vessels.
- 19:26Speaker 3: Stuff like that.
- 19:27Speaker 4: In my head, I've been like doing like a bratstole
- 19:29Speaker 4: of the Horror.
- 19:33Speaker 2: Building a house in my head, being like that looks
- 19:35Speaker 2: nice to get unlimited money.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Literally, what are your like top three home styling mistakes
- 19:44Speaker 1: or IX?
- 19:45Speaker 2: I know you've got some X.
- 19:47Speaker 3: So the first one I.
- 19:47Speaker 5: Have to say, when we're talking about the big light
- 19:49Speaker 5: and parents, why does every.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Dad like put the white daylight light globes.
- 19:54Speaker 2: In the cool big light.
- 19:59Speaker 3: It needs to be warm light and then you just
- 20:00Speaker 3: never turn them on, but at least.
- 20:02Speaker 4: You know.
- 20:04Speaker 2: You're not going to use them, but an emergency you got.
- 20:08Speaker 5: Warm because like whenever you move into a rental as well,
- 20:10Speaker 5: why they always like different colors and every room as well,
- 20:13Speaker 5: like some.
- 20:13Speaker 3: Warm summer white like why.
- 20:15Speaker 5: And then the other one that I have is like
- 20:17Speaker 5: rugs that are too small because nighttimes, out of turn
- 20:19Speaker 5: they are like most like it's kind of like, don't
- 20:21Speaker 5: have one if it's going to be too small?
- 20:23Speaker 2: What is the right side? Well, is there a formula?
- 20:26Speaker 3: I think you?
- 20:27Speaker 5: Like, so in a living room you sort of want
- 20:29Speaker 5: the furniture like the two front legs to be sitting
- 20:32Speaker 5: on the rug. That makes sense because the thing is
- 20:34Speaker 5: with a rug that's really powerful about it is that
- 20:36Speaker 5: if you don't have one, sometimes your furniture can feel
- 20:38Speaker 5: like it's floating in the room, like it doesn't fit.
- 20:43Speaker 3: In the space.
- 20:44Speaker 5: So you put a rug in and you lay things
- 20:45Speaker 5: on top of it, it just kind of grounds it.
- 20:47Speaker 5: Same with the bedroom, I think you want to have
- 20:50Speaker 5: some bit of rug on each end of the bed
- 20:52Speaker 5: as well as on the Like, yeah, I get you, Yeah,
- 20:57Speaker 5: that's like I think sometimes like I cares a great
- 20:59Speaker 5: spot to find really good rugs. If you can get
- 21:01Speaker 5: like a two by three like two meters by three
- 21:03Speaker 5: meters usually great, or you could just buy two of
- 21:06Speaker 5: the two by three meter ones like the jukee ones
- 21:08Speaker 5: that there's a lot o here you can get two
- 21:09Speaker 5: of them, yeah, because they're like ninety nine dollars versus
- 21:12Speaker 5: thousands of dollars, and you get two and bump them together.
- 21:14Speaker 5: And then it's like say, in a living room, you're
- 21:16Speaker 5: putting a sofa on top of a coffee table on top,
- 21:18Speaker 5: so you don't really notice the scene.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I like that. Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 5: And then the third thing I think I was like
- 21:25Speaker 5: basically just the build a gray Like I want to
- 21:28Speaker 5: talk to every architect that's doing these new apartments and
- 21:30Speaker 5: not doing the really.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Dark gray carpet and the white.
- 21:33Speaker 5: Walls because they're really hard to make feel homie.
- 21:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:37Speaker 5: And I know some people who would be listening right
- 21:38Speaker 5: now who are in those and PUB was like, I'd like, yeah,
- 21:40Speaker 5: I'm struggling to make this feel like a home.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Yeah, because it's just not really built to be like that.
- 21:45Speaker 3: I wish we could just have a little bit more
- 21:46Speaker 3: warmth and a bit more texture.
- 21:48Speaker 2: You know.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Do they just do that dark gray because it doesn't
- 21:50Speaker 1: show stains as much?
- 21:51Speaker 2: But even because that's the thing, when you try to
- 21:54Speaker 2: layer a dark carpet with a colorful rug like.
- 21:58Speaker 4: Black and memotime, it's like one's gray and one's redular.
- 22:02Speaker 1: You can't really it's yeah, it's harder to match with
- 22:05Speaker 1: darker colors.
- 22:05Speaker 5: I find interior, yeah for sure, Like in my place,
- 22:09Speaker 5: in my bedroom, it's a dark gray carpet, but I've
- 22:12Speaker 5: got a huge, like white wool rug. And so when
- 22:15Speaker 5: I film and I say like, oh, I think people
- 22:17Speaker 5: are like, oh, but you have like white carpet, don't.
- 22:18Speaker 1: You you know?
- 22:18Speaker 5: I mean, I know it's not necessarily the most practical thing,
- 22:20Speaker 5: I trust me, I know, but people kind of ignore
- 22:23Speaker 5: the carpet if you get a big enough rout.
- 22:25Speaker 1: We did kind of briefly touch on this before, but
- 22:28Speaker 1: do you have any tips for anybody who is renting
- 22:31Speaker 1: on how to maximize their space?
- 22:34Speaker 5: So I think it's all about storage, Like, let's real,
- 22:36Speaker 5: that's way of the first thing that comes to my mind.
- 22:37Speaker 5: Like I love my gas lift bed. I will never
- 22:41Speaker 5: go back from having a gas lift bed. I've had
- 22:43Speaker 5: the ones with drawers, I've had like a bed frame
- 22:45Speaker 5: where you like put like containers underneath it.
- 22:48Speaker 3: The gas live bed is the best, I agree, And.
- 22:50Speaker 5: I put all my bed linen underneath it. So like
- 22:52Speaker 5: it's in this it's in the right context as well,
- 22:54Speaker 5: Like when I need to change the bedlinen. It's like cool,
- 22:56Speaker 5: I have to walk to a different cupboard and come back.
- 22:59Speaker 2: Ship that You're like, I don't know where to put this,
- 23:02Speaker 2: it just lives the bed.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 5: And then also like for instance, like there's lots of
- 23:06Speaker 5: those pull out drawers now that you can get in cupboards,
- 23:07Speaker 5: like utilizing the space.
- 23:09Speaker 3: Like you know, people like.
- 23:09Speaker 5: I want to utilize the cupboard the most. You get
- 23:11Speaker 5: the ones where they pull out tray sort of things.
- 23:13Speaker 5: You can use the back of the cupboard in my
- 23:15Speaker 5: bathroom at home, I've got those clear Lazy Susans in
- 23:19Speaker 5: the drawers. So then like I put all my skincare
- 23:21Speaker 5: on it, and albeit it's not taking up like it's
- 23:23Speaker 5: not the best use of space, but I can access
- 23:25Speaker 5: all the products. So I'm just like spinning it around
- 23:27Speaker 5: and pulling from Yeah. So like sometimes I think it's
- 23:30Speaker 5: about like being smart with the stewage too, totally.
- 23:33Speaker 1: Yeah. Well I always hear people talking about that with storage,
- 23:36Speaker 1: you need to utilize the space vertically, yeah, and that
- 23:39Speaker 1: we don't do that enough.
- 23:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:41Speaker 1: So like in your pantry you'll have like things stacked,
- 23:43Speaker 1: but then you have like half of the cupboard is
- 23:46Speaker 1: empty just with space, but you can put like draws
- 23:49Speaker 1: in and things in that you can remove when you leave.
- 23:52Speaker 1: What about like curtains and lighting and things like that.
- 23:55Speaker 3: One hundred percent.
- 23:56Speaker 5: So curtains are a great thing that you can do,
- 23:57Speaker 5: especially if you put them like higher than the window frame, yeah, taller,
- 24:00Speaker 5: and they go all the way to the ground.
- 24:02Speaker 3: Please please go all the way down.
- 24:04Speaker 5: Unless it's like a cafe curtain that's cute, But like curtains,
- 24:06Speaker 5: we go all the way down to the ground. It
- 24:08Speaker 5: makes a room appear taller, and then mirrors obviously bounce
- 24:10Speaker 5: the light around, so it makes the space feel a
- 24:12Speaker 5: lot bigger.
- 24:12Speaker 2: You're a slut for curtains because also with your garage.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Right, yes, I yeah, yeah, So I got some outdoor
- 24:19Speaker 5: curtains from Timu because I was like, I don't want
- 24:22Speaker 5: to run the risk because, like I said, really exciting.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:25Speaker 5: So I was like these outdoor curtains because they could grow, mold,
- 24:27Speaker 5: they could do whatever.
- 24:28Speaker 3: I don't know what's gonna happen.
- 24:29Speaker 5: So I bought those awning striped curtains to cover up
- 24:31Speaker 5: my garage because when you look into the backyard, you
- 24:34Speaker 5: can just see straight.
- 24:34Speaker 3: Into the car and yeah, all the stuff, and it's
- 24:37Speaker 3: been great. I've had no mold.
- 24:39Speaker 5: There's been like windstorms, like tropical storms and all this
- 24:41Speaker 5: other stuff, and they're still great and they never like
- 24:43Speaker 5: go anywhere.
- 24:44Speaker 2: But that is something I just don't think anyone would
- 24:47Speaker 2: have thought of, because I remember I saw the video
- 24:49Speaker 2: and I was like, what are you doing?
- 24:51Speaker 3: Yeah, and then I was like I love that.
- 24:54Speaker 1: It was so shocked at first, like in the best way.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Yeah. Sometimes don't want to look at an ugly roll at all.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Sometimes, I mean, if you want to get like a
- 25:05Speaker 4: pretty one, like that's going to cost a boom.
- 25:07Speaker 2: What's the biggest mistake people make in their bedrooms?
- 25:10Speaker 5: Not even I think not evessing in the bedding, the
- 25:12Speaker 5: stuff you can't see, so like the mattress protectors, the douners.
- 25:16Speaker 3: The pillows. I think a lot of the time we
- 25:18Speaker 3: kind of just run it.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Yet.
- 25:19Speaker 3: Have you got the diner? Yeah, I've got it.
- 25:20Speaker 5: And it's like it's like a four hundred GSM, which
- 25:22Speaker 5: is Graham's per square meter, so it's like really flat.
- 25:25Speaker 3: I really like a down doner.
- 25:27Speaker 5: How many Yeah, mine's eight hundred gsm, So it's really fuffy,
- 25:32Speaker 5: but it's a great deal. Like, yeah, you know linked
- 25:35Speaker 5: it's a great doner with sheets.
- 25:38Speaker 2: What quality number of sheets.
- 25:40Speaker 5: The threat count kind of doesn't matter, to be honest,
- 25:42Speaker 5: it's kind of like an old like reference. It's kind
- 25:44Speaker 5: of it's more about whether you have like long staple fibers.
- 25:48Speaker 3: I'm getting into my bed styling.
- 25:50Speaker 5: No, like you have like short staple fibers and long
- 25:53Speaker 5: sable fibers. Of what it means is because obviously sheets
- 25:56Speaker 5: are woven. If it's a short fiber, it like sticks up.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Wherever it's a longer one, it's folded down, so you
- 26:01Speaker 5: get less pilling on the sheets, less of the balls,
- 26:05Speaker 5: so they last a long less.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah, how do you know whether it's long this week
- 26:11Speaker 1: or short week?
- 26:13Speaker 5: If you buy from like a like one of those
- 26:15Speaker 5: like boutique websites and stuff like that, they'll be able
- 26:17Speaker 5: to tell you. But a lot of brands are getting
- 26:18Speaker 5: a lot better with like putting the information on their products.
- 26:21Speaker 4: So if you go to the description, it'll say long
- 26:23Speaker 4: weave or short we've Okaysually you.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Can always ask.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Yeah, literally, okay, let's go into shopping.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I feel like you you also do amazing gift guides.
- 26:36Speaker 2: You're a great shopper. So I have some questions.
- 26:39Speaker 1: What are your favorite brands for home wears, oh or
- 26:44Speaker 1: just shake homestay.
- 26:46Speaker 5: I think it depends on what kind of depends on
- 26:49Speaker 5: what it is. Like I love an outlet, Like there's
- 26:51Speaker 5: a really good provincial home living outlet in South Melbourne,
- 26:54Speaker 5: but there should be one. There's a couple of Like
- 26:56Speaker 5: in Sydney there's the Shed which is mcm houses outlet.
- 27:00Speaker 3: There's like a Globe West outlet.
- 27:01Speaker 5: But I really like I like because I kind of
- 27:04Speaker 5: working interiors and home I've kind of progressed like and
- 27:07Speaker 5: like spent a little bit of money on the furniture.
- 27:10Speaker 3: Do you know aways.
- 27:10Speaker 5: I know that it's not everyone's thing, but like a
- 27:12Speaker 5: lot of my stuff is like Globe West Sarah Ellison,
- 27:15Speaker 5: very Australian design focused stuff home wears wise, Like, I
- 27:18Speaker 5: really like Fenton and Fenton. Like someone asked me the
- 27:19Speaker 5: other day, where can I get a really good standing
- 27:22Speaker 5: lamp that's not over a thousand dollars because standing lamps
- 27:25Speaker 5: are crazy. Fenton invent and have some really good colorful
- 27:27Speaker 5: ones with like the tassels, like mid century vibes.
- 27:30Speaker 3: I really like Etsy to find really cool responsors and
- 27:34Speaker 3: stuff like.
- 27:34Speaker 5: That, like things that are like one offs. Facebook Marketplace
- 27:38Speaker 5: is incredible, especially if there's like a brand that you
- 27:40Speaker 5: love and.
- 27:41Speaker 3: You really want to get a good deal.
- 27:43Speaker 5: You can pick up some really good designer furniture on
- 27:45Speaker 5: Facebook Marketplace or even just some like you know, retrovines
- 27:47Speaker 5: that are really cool.
- 27:48Speaker 1: Yeah, what about like dopamine bedding, where's the best place
- 27:51Speaker 1: to buy that?
- 27:52Speaker 5: I think Homie's doing really cool stuff with their bedding.
- 27:54Speaker 5: They went into like doing pillows, but they've just released
- 27:57Speaker 5: like a bed linen range and they've got this awesome
- 27:59Speaker 5: stripe versible so like you can have like yeah, you
- 28:02Speaker 5: can flip it over and it has different colors.
- 28:04Speaker 3: Yeah, that's fun.
- 28:06Speaker 5: Pillar Talk is actually really up in its game. Like
- 28:08Speaker 5: I think they're doing some really cool stuff with doing
- 28:11Speaker 5: like different designs. It doesn't break the bank.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I have a spicy question, what are your thoughts on
- 28:16Speaker 1: Kmart home wears?
- 28:18Speaker 5: So the thing is we came out home where is
- 28:19Speaker 5: I think like a lot of people can get sucked
- 28:21Speaker 5: in kind of like I Kia, you buy everything from
- 28:23Speaker 5: my care, you buy everything from Kmart. And I think
- 28:25Speaker 5: the thing is when things are more budget friendly, they're
- 28:27Speaker 5: usually smaller, So if you buy a lot of Camart furniture,
- 28:30Speaker 5: I don't know if you notice, but it feels all
- 28:31Speaker 5: kind of like trunk, Like.
- 28:33Speaker 2: It's like you're shrunk in the dry. Yeah, it kind of.
- 28:36Speaker 5: Feels like, yeah, like decorating for like a teenage bedroom
- 28:39Speaker 5: sometimes because like the because like the buffet or something
- 28:42Speaker 5: like that is like not that not bigger. Yes, sometimes
- 28:45Speaker 5: I think it's cool to do like a Facebook marketplace find,
- 28:47Speaker 5: but obviously, like every every store has like cool stuff.
- 28:51Speaker 5: I think it's good when it's like based on a trend,
- 28:53Speaker 5: but I don't love it when like brands want.
- 28:55Speaker 3: To dupe like a smaller business. Yes, I think it's
- 28:58Speaker 3: fine if it's like say, for instance.
- 28:59Speaker 5: Like bou Clay it was huge, Yeah, everyone was a yeah,
- 29:02Speaker 5: so came I came with booklate.
- 29:03Speaker 3: It's like cool, I'm gonna get it, like I'm gonna
- 29:04Speaker 3: get on the book late trend. That didn't cost me
- 29:06Speaker 3: a fortune.
- 29:06Speaker 5: But when it's like some boutique artisan that does really
- 29:09Speaker 5: cool vases and then they come up with like a
- 29:10Speaker 5: vessel that's like a smaller version, it's like, I don't.
- 29:13Speaker 4: Know, Yeah, I agree with that, and I think that
- 29:15Speaker 4: makes a lot of sense. I also was seeing a
- 29:18Speaker 4: TikTok series from a creator and it made a really
- 29:22Speaker 4: she made a really good point and she went, I
- 29:23Speaker 4: looked around and my home felt like a Kmart store,
- 29:27Speaker 4: and like this is not just say we love came
- 29:30Speaker 4: up with some vines as well, like this is not
- 29:32Speaker 4: to say like in a previous episode, we were talking
- 29:34Speaker 4: about things we think are a cult and we're like,
- 29:36Speaker 4: Kmart is one of them, and we're in it, baby,
- 29:38Speaker 4: Like I think they's absolutely and lives like also, furnishing
- 29:42Speaker 4: your home in your early twenties really hard.
- 29:44Speaker 1: But like you said, Facebook, Marketplace, look up free. Just
- 29:47Speaker 1: look up the word free. You'll find a bunch of shit.
- 29:50Speaker 1: But she looked around and she was like, I felt
- 29:52Speaker 1: like I was living in a Kmart store. And she
- 29:56Speaker 1: built a whole series around d K martifying her home.
- 30:00Speaker 2: It's really interesting. It was really cool.
- 30:02Speaker 1: So I think that's also a good thing to lean
- 30:04Speaker 1: into and be conscious of when you shop with.
- 30:08Speaker 2: Not even just came up. But like you said, ike,
- 30:10Speaker 2: people fall into the colt right because.
- 30:11Speaker 3: It's like that trap where you're walking, I don't look
- 30:14Speaker 3: at that, that's there.
- 30:15Speaker 1: They have to styled perfectly. I'll take one of everything else.
- 30:19Speaker 2: It does make it easier, but.
- 30:24Speaker 5: Then you also think that it's cheaper. But sometimes it's not,
- 30:26Speaker 5: like it's actually better to like go to came out
- 30:28Speaker 5: after and buy like the tupperware containers from that versus
- 30:31Speaker 5: the Ike ones because you're not at the time like
- 30:33Speaker 5: everything is such a good deal, but it's like, actually,
- 30:35Speaker 5: like some things are a really good deal and then
- 30:37Speaker 5: other things aren't.
- 30:39Speaker 2: On that note, let's play save or splurge.
- 30:41Speaker 4: So we're going to give you a category and you're
- 30:43Speaker 4: going to say save or splurge.
- 30:45Speaker 2: So number one glassware.
- 30:47Speaker 5: It's like a save and a splurge really big one,
- 30:50Speaker 5: like you're going to have some cheapys, are gonna have
- 30:52Speaker 5: some nice ones for like, Okay, I'm going to say
- 30:55Speaker 5: save because you can get some really good looking glassware
- 30:59Speaker 5: for cheap and also so.
- 31:00Speaker 2: They can break.
- 31:02Speaker 1: If I'm going to splurge on something, I'm saving on
- 31:04Speaker 1: glass that she it's too easy to break.
- 31:07Speaker 2: And also you can get some really beautiful glass were
- 31:10Speaker 2: from Vinie's. Oh yeah, save or splurge bedding.
- 31:14Speaker 3: Look, look you can do like the thing is, you
- 31:16Speaker 3: can do both, but I think splurge.
- 31:19Speaker 5: I agree, Yeah, I think splurge on the bedland. And
- 31:21Speaker 5: also you can't buy the bedline in secondhand. I don't think,
- 31:23Speaker 5: you know, if you're going to buy it, buy the
- 31:26Speaker 5: thing you really love, yes.
- 31:27Speaker 3: You know, I mean if you're going to use it
- 31:28Speaker 3: all the time.
- 31:28Speaker 5: And also you definitely do not need to have as
- 31:30Speaker 5: many sheets and dove sets as I have.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I think some people think that that's the thing.
- 31:33Speaker 5: But because obviously it's like my job obviously, like I'm from,
- 31:37Speaker 5: like I'm showing all different styles, I think the best
- 31:39Speaker 5: route is to have like a summer set, Like have
- 31:41Speaker 5: a summer you kind of want to have two sheet
- 31:43Speaker 5: sets and two Douner sets because you want to stop
- 31:46Speaker 5: them weekly and you don't want to have to think about, oh,
- 31:48Speaker 5: I've got to wash this.
- 31:51Speaker 2: It's like washing your hair.
- 31:53Speaker 3: So if you have like.
- 31:54Speaker 5: Two summer and two winter sets, which I think that's heaps. Yes,
- 31:58Speaker 5: I think that's great, And they're different color so you
- 32:00Speaker 5: can interchange them.
- 32:01Speaker 4: And you get the dopamine here to when it's a
- 32:02Speaker 4: different color and you're like now bed, yeah, new bed,
- 32:05Speaker 4: I moved. I agree, Okay, next, savele splurge lighting.
- 32:12Speaker 5: I think save it's hard though, Like it's hard to
- 32:16Speaker 5: find good lamps, and when they do, they sell out,
- 32:18Speaker 5: Like I brought one from Temple and Webster and it's
- 32:20Speaker 5: sold out like the next day, because it's like finding
- 32:22Speaker 5: a really good lamp at a good break. But things
- 32:24Speaker 5: for lamps too is they're kind of trendy items, like
- 32:26Speaker 5: I wish they weren't as trendy, but I feel like
- 32:28Speaker 5: lamps in my mind, I always end up not liking
- 32:31Speaker 5: them first out of all the things I buy, and
- 32:33Speaker 5: kind of like, I am over that lamp.
- 32:34Speaker 3: Why did I buy that? Or was I thinking of
- 32:36Speaker 3: with that?
- 32:37Speaker 2: Savele splurge artwork?
- 32:39Speaker 5: Ah, I think splurge because I think you don't really
- 32:42Speaker 5: need artwork. People always ask me for artwork advice, and
- 32:45Speaker 5: I don't really have any of the ones that I've done.
- 32:47Speaker 5: I've made myself, so I just like got to be
- 32:49Speaker 5: canvas and I've got some render and painting.
- 32:51Speaker 3: It's not very I think that's.
- 32:52Speaker 2: A good tip. I think that's a save then, like
- 32:55Speaker 2: make your own art. You don't have to be super
- 32:57Speaker 2: I mean everything can be like.
- 32:59Speaker 5: But I think if you're going to go down the
- 33:01Speaker 5: art route where you really need the art, like you
- 33:04Speaker 5: want the art, I think just like find one that
- 33:07Speaker 5: you really connect with and resonate with. I feel like
- 33:08Speaker 5: sometimes in a commercial space you can use art to
- 33:11Speaker 5: kind of tell the story. In a home, I don't
- 33:13Speaker 5: think you need the art to tell the story, Like
- 33:15Speaker 5: I find I'll walk into a room and if someone's
- 33:16Speaker 5: got the art, I'll just like look at the art
- 33:18Speaker 5: and I'm like, cool, I've met up my mind about
- 33:19Speaker 5: this whole room now because of the art rather than
- 33:21Speaker 5: acknowledging everything else that's going on in the space.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. And also like supporting small local artists.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Yeah, And like I love like a vintage poster, Like
- 33:31Speaker 5: I really want to find one because I really like
- 33:32Speaker 5: graphic design and stuff like that. So I feel like
- 33:34Speaker 5: those really cool large vintage posters are awesome, but they're
- 33:37Speaker 5: still pricing okay.
- 33:38Speaker 2: And my last one is save us splurge furniture.
- 33:42Speaker 5: You can do keep saying both, I think, what about
- 33:48Speaker 5: what do you do? The era that I'm in now,
- 33:50Speaker 5: I'm in a bit of a splurge, but I'm buying
- 33:52Speaker 5: them at like the warehouse sales, so I'm still getting
- 33:56Speaker 5: them at a discount, like you know what I mean,
- 33:57Speaker 5: Like it's that ship was I never buy anything evil
- 33:59Speaker 5: bras go to those warehouse sales, pick up like the
- 34:02Speaker 5: like the gorgeous like marble coffee table that I have.
- 34:04Speaker 5: I've had for like three and a half years. I
- 34:06Speaker 5: never plan on getting rid of that coffee. Yes, yeah,
- 34:09Speaker 5: people come over like that like that is stunning.
- 34:10Speaker 3: I'm like, yeah, yeah.
- 34:11Speaker 5: Married with that, you don't need as much homewhere. It's
- 34:14Speaker 5: like a lot of the furniture. If good stuff does
- 34:16Speaker 5: the talking, you don't have to kind of like do
- 34:18Speaker 5: lots of bits and lots of layers. Sometimes it doesn't
- 34:20Speaker 5: even suit it, do you know what I mean? Like
- 34:21Speaker 5: I put cushions on my sofar, but like the sofa
- 34:24Speaker 5: itself is like good. It makes the chop a lot easier,
- 34:26Speaker 5: which I know is like something to say. But like
- 34:28Speaker 5: I've saved up for the things and put more conscious
- 34:30Speaker 5: effort into making sure that I get those things because
- 34:32Speaker 5: I'm aware that it's worth it.
- 34:36Speaker 3: I don't know, you can have a furniture forever.
- 34:38Speaker 5: Like I had the thing in my stories yesterday where
- 34:40Speaker 5: someone said, like, what's your biggest interior design? Iic, and
- 34:42Speaker 5: I said that people are more willing to spend money
- 34:47Speaker 5: on clothing that they'll wear. A couple of times, but
- 34:49Speaker 5: they don't like they want us don't want to spend
- 34:51Speaker 5: a dime on furniture, but they're going to use every
- 34:53Speaker 5: day generally, Like you're gonna buy that beautiful coat that's
- 34:56Speaker 5: like nine hundred dollars and you're gonna like, oh, I'm
- 34:58Speaker 5: gonna wear forever and blah blah. It's like you use
- 34:59Speaker 5: a coffee table every day, Yeah, you don't want to
- 35:02Speaker 5: get the coffee table. And I think it's to do
- 35:03Speaker 5: with like we worry so much about other people outside
- 35:05Speaker 5: are thinking and not thinking about how we feel about
- 35:08Speaker 5: ourselves in our home, because I don't know.
- 35:10Speaker 3: I feel like your home is the biggest life lesson
- 35:12Speaker 3: for sure.
- 35:13Speaker 5: Like people think that home is kind of maybe a
- 35:15Speaker 5: bit materialistic or like a bit boring, But I really
- 35:17Speaker 5: think the way that you treat your home is ultimately
- 35:19Speaker 5: a reflection of how you treat yourself. And I know
- 35:22Speaker 5: that's really deep, but it really is. If you care
- 35:24Speaker 5: for your home, you care for your space, it's like
- 35:26Speaker 5: you looking after yourself. And sometimes I think we take
- 35:28Speaker 5: ourselves a granted that we're like, oh, I'm always going
- 35:30Speaker 5: to be here. It's like I don't need to look
- 35:31Speaker 5: after me I'll look after others doing those extra bits.
- 35:34Speaker 5: Having a comfortable bed stuff is not really good for
- 35:37Speaker 5: you because that you're looking after you.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I love that. I kind of want to go
- 35:41Speaker 2: home now.
- 35:44Speaker 3: I'm like, I want to go by lamp.
- 35:46Speaker 2: Thank you so much.
- 35:47Speaker 4: That was so much fun and genuinely, there are so
- 35:50Speaker 4: many amazing tips in this that I think the chicks
- 35:52Speaker 4: are going to absolutely love. So we'll make sure we
- 35:54Speaker 4: put show notes and links to everything that we've mentioned
- 35:58Speaker 4: and yeah, thank.
- 35:59Speaker 2: You so much.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Also tell the chicks where they can find you if
- 36:01Speaker 1: they haven't already, so you can find me.
- 36:03Speaker 5: On all my social medias at louis Burg. I've also
- 36:05Speaker 5: got a journal which is Louisburg Design dot com. And
- 36:08Speaker 5: I've got a podcast which is Home and Hosting with Louis.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Back Love the Daddy of Home and Hosting. Damn hog,
- 36:14Speaker 2: give me over the Matt. That's really good for me. Yeah,
- 36:20Speaker 2: I love that. Australian idol cole bitch.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Thank you so much, Thank you, and thanks to your
- 36:27Speaker 1: chicks for having us in your ear holes.
- 36:29Speaker 5: We love to be here.
- 36:30Speaker 2: Love it back
