Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Parliamentarians are actually doing something we've been asking for. They've
- 0:03Speaker 1: come up with an infrastructure plan for the next thirty years,
- 0:06Speaker 1: and more remarkably, it has rare cross party backing. It
- 0:10Speaker 1: was produced independently by the Infrastructure Commission and Labor and
- 0:13Speaker 1: the Greens have called it a long term, nonpartisan blueprint
- 0:17Speaker 1: for fixing decades of inconsistent infrastructure decisions. Good lord, now
- 0:22Speaker 1: here's our problem. New Zealand spends heavily on infrastructure but
- 0:26Speaker 1: ranks poorly on efficiency and asset management. You know, in
- 0:30Speaker 1: terms of what we spend on infrastructure, we're at the
- 0:32Speaker 1: top of the tables. In terms of what actually comes
- 0:34Speaker 1: out and how much it costs, we're at the bottom.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So Minister christ Bishop says the government's now acting on
- 0:40Speaker 1: ten priority areas, including reviewing transport funding, legislating long term
- 0:44Speaker 1: investment plans, improving national infrastructure data and strengthening public sector
- 0:48Speaker 1: project leadership. And further work is needed on predictable funding
- 0:52Speaker 1: signals yes please, multi year budgeting yes please, and coordinated
- 0:57Speaker 1: workforce planning absolutely yes please. Treasury and mb are going
- 1:01Speaker 1: to report back in twenty twenty seven. But finally, finally,
- 1:04Speaker 1: it might be that We're going to stop the stop
- 1:06Speaker 1: start nature of developing this country, and that will make
- 1:09Speaker 1: everything quicker, more efficiently, and most importantly cheaper. And finally,
- 1:14Speaker 1: I have to say this, congratulations. The so called grown
- 1:16Speaker 1: ups in charge of the country are actually being grown
- 1:19Speaker 1: up and ditching infrastructure as a way to define themselves politically.
