- 0:00Speaker 1: We're here to the top of the hour, and then
- 0:03Speaker 1: we got two basketball games tomorrow. Men are in Providence.
- 0:06Speaker 1: That'll be fun. Providence just beat Saint John's and then
- 0:10Speaker 1: Husky are Husky will host Saint John's. The women at
- 0:13Speaker 1: the People's Bank Arena or his Microspiina likes to call
- 0:15Speaker 1: it the Vault tomorrow nights. By the way, you're all
- 0:18Speaker 1: history bus right, you guys like fifty years ago today,
- 0:22Speaker 1: who likes Peter Frampton? Frampton Comes Alive came out fifty
- 0:25Speaker 1: years ago today? Were you a Frampton guy?
- 0:29Speaker 2: No?
- 0:29Speaker 3: No, okay, I mean you know, no, fifty years ago
- 0:34Speaker 3: I was. I was in a bar mating whether to
- 0:39Speaker 3: go see Bruce Springsteen for two dollars and I'm like,
- 0:42Speaker 3: who's he? So okay, Yeah, I'm more of a Springsteen
- 0:46Speaker 3: fan than anything else, that's true. Yeah, I was working
- 0:49Speaker 3: out today. Born to Run came on, and that was
- 0:51Speaker 3: nineteen seventy three, seventy three, seventy four, okay, I mean
- 0:57Speaker 3: you think about it.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:59Speaker 3: And some of these guys, even in Rolling Stones, I mean,
- 1:01Speaker 3: I don't know how they how do they do it?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Like in their eighties? These guys got to be eighty.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Right, I mean stair aged, you know, I don't know
- 1:11Speaker 3: what it is, or they got so much whatever stuff
- 1:14Speaker 3: in their system that they can't possibly die their their
- 1:18Speaker 3: bodies already formaldehyde. I mean they got right, what do
- 1:22Speaker 3: they got in their system? No germs can live in
- 1:25Speaker 3: their systems. They anything that tries to get in there,
- 1:29Speaker 3: you die.
- 1:31Speaker 2: How do they do it? It's it's remarkable, it really
- 1:34Speaker 2: is it really, really really is. I get a kick
- 1:37Speaker 2: out of those guys.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Hey, I want to ask you about one of your players,
- 1:40Speaker 1: freshmen from Ireland, Gannymo Mamel. What do you like about her?
- 1:47Speaker 3: Every everything, everything, She's an adult. It's great to have
- 1:52Speaker 3: her and Blanca are you know, two kids that are
- 1:57Speaker 3: more adult like than their age. And I think that
- 2:01Speaker 3: might have a lot to do with I think the
- 2:03Speaker 3: international kids are a little bit older in the sense
- 2:07Speaker 3: that they've had more varied experiences, they've been on their
- 2:11Speaker 3: own more so I think that for them, you know,
- 2:15Speaker 3: going away to school and being there, it's not a
- 2:17Speaker 3: big deal. And so yeah, I think not this year,
- 2:23Speaker 3: but I think next year, the year after that. I
- 2:27Speaker 3: think and Andy's going to be really really a big
- 2:30Speaker 3: factor in Yukon women's basketball. She's a great, great human being.
- 2:38Speaker 3: Nobody can keep her from offensive rebounding, and she's hard
- 2:42Speaker 3: to score over. You know, she's six six or whatever
- 2:45Speaker 3: the actually is, and you know, she's just a nice,
- 2:49Speaker 3: nice kid, a great kid.
- 2:52Speaker 2: But she's got a.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Little bit of an edgy, mean streak on the court,
- 2:55Speaker 3: and a lot of our guys stay clear of her.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Just saying speaking of edgy, I mean, it's not like,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, do you have enough of those players that.
- 3:13Speaker 3: We are so girly sometimes? You know, you know, the
- 3:17Speaker 3: thing that we talk about all the time is that
- 3:22Speaker 3: when when you're a competitor, you know, when you're competing,
- 3:26Speaker 3: you're you're always.
- 3:28Speaker 2: Trying to.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Basketball that you can say basketball is five on five
- 3:36Speaker 3: and at the same time, no, it's not. You know,
- 3:38Speaker 3: basketball is like a one on one sport. Right, I
- 3:41Speaker 3: have the ball, you're trying to guard me, and if
- 3:43Speaker 3: you can't guard me, then you know we've got a problem.
- 3:47Speaker 2: And you have the ball and.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I'm on defense, and if you can't go where you
- 3:51Speaker 3: want to go because my defense is so good, then
- 3:53Speaker 3: you got a problem.
- 3:55Speaker 2: So I think.
- 3:58Speaker 3: Basketball requires a certain because there's no place to hide,
- 4:03Speaker 3: you know, right, you can play right field in baseball
- 4:06Speaker 3: and be out there for two hours, get a nice
- 4:08Speaker 3: sun tan and never get any balls hit to you,
- 4:10Speaker 3: and you strike out three times and you go home.
- 4:13Speaker 3: I was the game, Tommy, It was great. I had
- 4:16Speaker 3: a fun time. You know, in basketball, you got to
- 4:19Speaker 3: play man. There's no place to hide, so you got
- 4:22Speaker 3: to play defense, you got to handle the ball you got,
- 4:24Speaker 3: So it really becomes a game where you have.
- 4:27Speaker 2: To you got to be tough.
- 4:29Speaker 3: You gotta be tough, tough mentally, tough physically to play
- 4:32Speaker 3: this game. And I think when you when you when
- 4:38Speaker 3: you have the kind of offensive players that we have,
- 4:43Speaker 3: there really is one.
- 4:47Speaker 2: Alternative.
- 4:48Speaker 3: If you're the other team, you're gonna have to find
- 4:51Speaker 3: a way to be so physical that we can't function.
- 4:55Speaker 3: We can't run our stuff, we can't go from here
- 4:58Speaker 3: to there, we can't you know, we can't and cut,
- 5:00Speaker 3: we can't do the things that we do. And that's
- 5:03Speaker 3: where really smart officiating comes in, because if you're a
- 5:06Speaker 3: really smart official, you go, okay, well what am I
- 5:09Speaker 3: what am I refereeing tonight?
- 5:10Speaker 2: Well, I'm refereeing a team.
- 5:11Speaker 3: That this is what they like to do. So if
- 5:13Speaker 3: they get beat up and they can't do it, then
- 5:15Speaker 3: that's a fout. That's you're not allowing these guys to
- 5:18Speaker 3: you know, the freedom of movement.
- 5:19Speaker 2: If you're another team, like, what do they do? Well?
- 5:21Speaker 3: They throw it in the post and they score in
- 5:23Speaker 3: the post. All right, So when these guys catch the ball,
- 5:25Speaker 3: you know, we can't you know, have these guys beating
- 5:27Speaker 3: the hall out of them and score. So bottom line
- 5:32Speaker 3: is you got to be you got to be physically
- 5:35Speaker 3: and more even more so mentally.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Tough to play at a really really high level.
- 5:41Speaker 3: And and you know, we wouldn't be sitting here with
- 5:44Speaker 3: twelve national championships if we didn't have kids that the
- 5:47Speaker 3: other teams didn't want to play against. You know, if
- 5:51Speaker 3: you if you were coming up the floor and you
- 5:53Speaker 3: saw Shay and you looked in her face, you're like,
- 5:55Speaker 3: I don't want any part of this.
- 5:58Speaker 2: You know. I used to see ber name my gun.
- 6:00Speaker 3: I mean, we have a video of her standing at
- 6:02Speaker 3: the free throw line after we just scored and they're
- 6:06Speaker 3: inbounding the ball and she's like a cheetah and she's
- 6:10Speaker 3: just going like this, And you could tell the kids
- 6:12Speaker 3: just like I don't want any part of this, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 3: or you know, do you go in the lane and
- 6:17Speaker 3: there's Tina Charles just you know, Steph Dolsan and one
- 6:20Speaker 3: of these guys. So you got to have an intimidating
- 6:23Speaker 3: kind of a presence if.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You want to be really, really good.
- 6:26Speaker 3: And I know that you know a lot of our fans,
- 6:29Speaker 3: well we love this kid, we love that kid.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Oh, this kid's great. And then she's cute and she
- 6:34Speaker 2: just tough. Shit.
- 6:35Speaker 3: You're like, you got to really be a tough kid
- 6:37Speaker 3: if you're going to apply. Like my daughter when she
- 6:39Speaker 3: was in Yukon, she was a nice kid and she
- 6:41Speaker 3: was great. I don't mean I want her on my team.
- 6:45Speaker 1: There you go, Final segment with coach in just a
- 6:48Speaker 1: minute on the Yukon Women's Basketball Coaches Show. Here in Liarfield,
- 6:51Speaker 1: stay with us,
