- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 1: next
- 0:06Speaker 1: Kicking off your day in the best way, it's Sonia
- 0:09Speaker 1: and Joakim on the
- 0:10Speaker 1: shock circuit.
- 0:12Speaker 2: Good morning, good morning. Welcome to what I would say
- 0:14Speaker 2: is the final week of
- 0:16Speaker 1: August. So many things to catch you up on. National
- 0:19Speaker 1: Day Rally, Premier League action. I am depressed again. Oh,
- 0:23Speaker 1: what happened? When you lost lah. Oh, did
- 0:25Speaker 2: my
- 0:25Speaker 1: team win?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Yes.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Oh yay.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Singapore's number one
- 0:28Speaker 1: hit music station.
- 0:31Speaker 2: OK, so I usually never, hardly ever initiate any football-related
- 0:36Speaker 2: talk unless I'm asking you a question. And so now
- 0:39Speaker 2: I am. You said my, my team won over the weekend.
- 0:43Speaker 2: What happened?
- 0:44Speaker 1: Before anything, have you seen Erling Harland's new look?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Not yet, actually. Clearly I didn't watch it.
- 0:50Speaker 1: The
- 0:51Speaker 1: bro cut his hair.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Oh, like all of
- 0:53Speaker 1: it. Yeah, so it's now short. It's as if he's
- 0:56Speaker 1: playing for Borussia Dortmund again. We got buzz cut Harland before.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Do
- 1:01Speaker 2: you, do you think this is a better look compared
- 1:03Speaker 2: to the long hair?
- 1:04Speaker 1: No, so I remember when Zlatan and Erling linked up
- 1:07Speaker 1: for the World Cup. They were doing some videos together, right?
- 1:10Speaker 1: Zlatan told him, you know what, the powers in the hair.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Don't cut it. So when he cut his hair, he
- 1:16Speaker 1: called his previous manager Pep Guardiola and Zlatan, both of
- 1:20Speaker 1: which had like, what are you doing?
- 1:23Speaker 2: Maybe to them it was like a, what we did
- 1:25Speaker 2: it before the match, right? The opening
- 1:28Speaker 1: season
- 1:28Speaker 2: match I'm guessing
- 1:29Speaker 1: Man City took on Bournemouth and Bournemouth were leading one-nil
- 1:33Speaker 1: and then step up Marka to make it 11 and
- 1:37Speaker 1: who was it that scored the winner? It wasn't, it
- 1:39Speaker 1: wasn't Harland, it was someone else. Let me just check.
- 1:44Speaker 1: Eh, it doesn't say. Oh, there you go, your score Guardio.
- 1:48Speaker 2: I
- 1:48Speaker 2: was gonna say let me pull up my knowledge of
- 1:50Speaker 2: all the players' names.
- 1:51Speaker 1: Guardio scored the winner for Man City, making it 2-1.
- 1:53Speaker 1: So congrats to your team. They won. Awesome. Yay. Mine,
- 1:56Speaker 1: on the other hand, wow, Saturday night 7:30 p.m., rushed home.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I was like, OK, opening game of the season against the.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Newly promoted side. Let's play well. Let's hopefully win this. No,
- 2:10Speaker 1: Hull City beats Manchester United 2-0.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Wait, Hull City is like an
- 2:16Speaker 1: A-list. OK,
- 2:17Speaker 1: so for Hull City last year they were in the championship,
- 2:22Speaker 1: Division One, and then they got promoted to the Premier League,
- 2:25Speaker 1: to which if you're
- 2:26Speaker 1: Up against a team like Manchester United, there should be fear,
- 2:29Speaker 1: you know, there should be like, oh wow, we're playing
- 2:32Speaker 1: against one of the biggest clubs in the world, but no,
- 2:34Speaker 1: the stadium was noisy. They had amazing home support, and
- 2:38Speaker 1: when they were up 2-0, they came up with this
- 2:40Speaker 1: new chant because how City, uh, the logo is a tiger, right?
- 2:44Speaker 1: The fans are saying hello, no.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Hello is quite cute, yes, but the fans are going
- 2:52Speaker 1: mauled by the tigers. They're getting mauled by the tigers.
- 2:56Speaker 2: That's cool. That's cool. I like better. OK, so you're
- 3:00Speaker 2: talking public holidays. Yes, so I'm anticipating one coming up
- 3:04Speaker 2: very soon. Um, is
- 3:08Speaker 1: about 2 months away.
- 3:12Speaker 2: There's none coming up in September.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Um, OK, look, when it comes to school holidays, there's Teachers' Day. Teachers'
- 3:20Speaker 1: Day happening Friday, 4th
- 3:21Speaker 2: September, in September holidays, right?
- 3:24Speaker 1: Yeah, like a week.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Is that one week? And then
- 3:25Speaker 1: you have Children's Day on 2nd of October, Friday as well.
- 3:28Speaker 2: OK, so Jokim gets a day off. Thank you very much.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I'll claim it.
- 3:32Speaker 1: For my inner child, yes, but in terms of public
- 3:35Speaker 1: holiday where all of Singapore can rest for a bit,
- 3:38Speaker 1: unless of course you're on shift, Deepavali,
- 3:42Speaker 1: which is
- 3:42Speaker 2: in
- 3:45Speaker 1: November 8th of November, a Sunday. Wow, we
- 3:48Speaker 2: have to wait so long.
- 3:49Speaker 1: So the good news is on Monday, 9th of November,
- 3:52Speaker 1: it's a leave in lie or off in lie. There
- 3:54Speaker 1: you go.
- 3:55Speaker 2: OK, well, um, I don't recall whether I read this correctly,
- 3:59Speaker 2: but was 2026, uh, public holidays not the best positioned holidays,
- 4:04Speaker 2: or was that last year?
- 4:05Speaker 1: I
- 4:06Speaker 2: think it was last year was it 2025.
- 4:08Speaker 1: We actually had plenty of long weekends. Yeah, because there
- 4:10Speaker 2: was, I remember, was it last year that the the
- 4:13Speaker 2: public holidays would fall on a random like Wednesday or Thursday,
- 4:16Speaker 2: then it's really not worthwhile,
- 4:20Speaker 1: for Chinese New Year this year.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Tuesday and Wednesday,
- 4:22Speaker 2: yeah, so that was awkward for
- 4:24Speaker 1: Haraya Pwasa on Saturday, Haa Haji on Wednesday. I mean, again,
- 4:29Speaker 1: to have a public holiday on a Saturday is the
- 4:31Speaker 1: most loogie thing ever.
- 4:32Speaker 2: It is and a Wednesday as well. They should honestly,
- 4:34Speaker 2: my honest opinion, not that anyone cares, but they should
- 4:36Speaker 2: just give it to us anyway, like, you know, if
- 4:39Speaker 2: it falls on a Saturday and technically you won't enjoy
- 4:42Speaker 2: the
- 4:42Speaker 2: holiday.
- 4:42Speaker 1: OK, I can write into Prime Minister's office and then
- 4:45Speaker 1: next year's National Day rally.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I got a suggestion from Sonia Chew.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Not that anyone asked, but she offered this anyway.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Speaking of which, we will go through yesterday's NDR yeah, yeah,
- 4:58Speaker 1: just past 7 a.m.,
- 5:00Speaker 2: plenty of updates, you know, I think we can actually
- 5:02Speaker 2: break it up. He's given us content for our whole
- 5:04Speaker 2: show today. I
- 5:05Speaker 1: mean, look, if you are a family, well done, lah. Congrats.
- 5:09Speaker 2: But for the rest of the population, for people
- 5:12Speaker 1: like me.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Yeah, let's see what
- 5:14Speaker 2: happens. I'll break down the
- 5:15Speaker 1: details. There is a 76-year-old lady residing in Chinatown here
- 5:19Speaker 1: in Singapore that I want to pay for her services.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Please come to Bishan and help us with this problem.
- 5:25Speaker 2: What kind of, what kind of services? I'm
- 5:27Speaker 1: scared. OK, I'm gonna list you three food items and
- 5:30Speaker 1: you tell me what you think it's for, right? OK.
- 5:32Speaker 1: You ready? Duck bones,
- 5:35Speaker 2: OK,
- 5:36Speaker 1: anchovies, and oyster sauce.
- 5:39Speaker 2: Duck bones, anchovies, and oyster sauce.
- 5:43Speaker 1: What do you think she uses these 3 food items for?
- 5:49Speaker 2: To feed something, some sort of animals, exactly, no,
- 5:53Speaker 1: no, it's a makeshift rat trap.
- 5:57Speaker 2: Well, yeah there to feed animals.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I mean, not exactly feed in the kind way, but
- 6:02Speaker 1: to
- 6:02Speaker 2: trap all the rats.
- 6:04Speaker 1: So I guess this lady has grown fed up of
- 6:06Speaker 1: all the rats over the Chinatown area
- 6:08Speaker 2: and I didn't know they had a big problem. Yeah,
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's gnawing at her house materials as well. So she said,
- 6:14Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna.
- 6:15Speaker 1: Do my own makeshift trap in 3 weeks, she has
- 6:20Speaker 1: caught 20
- 6:21Speaker 1: rats.
- 6:21Speaker 2: No, are you serious? And only around her house,
- 6:25Speaker 1: her estate
- 6:26Speaker 2: area, the whole estate cannot be
- 6:28Speaker 1: a block
- 6:29Speaker 2: in her, OK.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Dude, that's nuts. Exactly. They have a problem.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So auntie can come Bishan help
- 6:36Speaker 2: us also. You got rat problem Bishan.
- 6:38Speaker 1: OK. So at the hawker center areas, right, you know
- 6:41Speaker 1: where the bins are sometimes at night after my runs
- 6:44Speaker 1: and I walk past the little hedges and bushes.
- 6:48Speaker 1: What do you call it, right? I'll hear movement and I,
- 6:50Speaker 1: I'll see like 2 or 3 fat ones running up
- 6:54Speaker 1: and down.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Actually, OK, so, so in the East Coast area, I
- 6:57Speaker 2: haven't exactly encountered that, only on one occasion. I remember
- 7:01Speaker 2: this one, but it also might have got to do
- 7:03Speaker 2: with the heavy rain that came before that. So I
- 7:06Speaker 2: went to East Coast Park for like a jog, OK,
- 7:08Speaker 2: after the rain came down.
- 7:10Speaker 2: But I didn't realize what it must have rained really
- 7:12Speaker 2: heavily for the past few hours, because things that, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 2: the pavements were all like, it was all filled with water, rainwater,
- 7:19Speaker 2: and I guess some of the rats were looking for
- 7:22Speaker 2: shelter or something. So as I was running, um, I
- 7:26Speaker 2: just jogged past like a group of students from, I
- 7:29Speaker 2: don't know, some JC or something. So I jogged past
- 7:32Speaker 2: them and then all of a sudden out of nowhere,
- 7:33Speaker 2: a shadowy figure like dashes out, you know.
- 7:36Speaker 2: Dashes a big one like on the pavement and it
- 7:39Speaker 2: dashes across the pavement. I screamed, like I yelled, screamed,
- 7:43Speaker 2: I jumped over it.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Landed, kind of got all my shoes wet, and I
- 7:49Speaker 2: turned around and all the students saw that, so.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And they were like, they looked at me like, hey, Sonia,
- 7:55Speaker 2: don't worry, we also react like that.
- 7:59Speaker 1: Making you feel better about yourself. So maybe our friends
- 8:02Speaker 1: over at NEA or the town councils should hire this
- 8:06Speaker 1: 76 year old auntie.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Hey man, she, she's doing an effective, she's very effective.
- 8:11Speaker 2: That's active aging is done right. Yeah, she's putting herself
- 8:15Speaker 2: to good use, you know, like keeping your brain going
- 8:16Speaker 2: as well. Alright, well, um, hopefully they find a solution
- 8:20Speaker 2: for these areas. There's only
- 8:22Speaker 2: There's only that much one super auntie can do, yeah,
- 8:25Speaker 1: and not
- 8:25Speaker 1: to be a rat monitor the Tanjong Pagar area as well,
- 8:29Speaker 1: especially the field opposite Sophel Center.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Because I run there,
- 8:34Speaker 2: I run there a
- 8:35Speaker 2: lot
- 8:35Speaker 1: as well. It's, it's near where the ice bath is.
- 8:38Speaker 1: So I run there and I often see reps because
- 8:40Speaker 1: a lot of food places and they seem to dump
- 8:43Speaker 1: their rubbish and food
- 8:45Speaker 2: wastage and it's left there for a bit,
- 8:47Speaker 1: yeah, in the same bin, yeah.
- 8:49Speaker 2: OK, so some things that we want to open up
- 8:51Speaker 2: phone lines for later in regards to National Day rally
- 8:53Speaker 2: will happen later. But first,
- 8:56Speaker 2: I think many people might have their thoughts about this, OK,
- 8:58Speaker 2: when it comes to social media. I'm not sure if
- 9:00Speaker 2: you realized or noticed other, some other countries, I think
- 9:04Speaker 2: Australia included, where they've decided, or maybe even certain parts
- 9:07Speaker 2: of Australia have decided to change and increase the age
- 9:12Speaker 2: for registering for social media. So this is really to
- 9:16Speaker 2: like help them safeguard their kids a little bit better. Um,
- 9:20Speaker 2: according to our very own PM Wong,
- 9:22Speaker 2: Our Singapore government may raise the minimum social media age
- 9:27Speaker 2: to beyond 13 years old if the platforms don't safeguard
- 9:33Speaker 2: um their, their members enough. I
- 9:35Speaker 1: think
- 9:37Speaker 2: they should. Yeah, I think so
- 9:38Speaker 1: too. If, if other countries are doing it, I think
- 9:40Speaker 1: Singapore should follow suit and
- 9:42Speaker 1: I believe Meta are in hot soup again. They're being
- 9:47Speaker 1: sued left, right, center for not protecting children enough. Actually,
- 9:51Speaker 2: I'm curious, you know how for example YouTube.
- 9:56Speaker 2: And some other platforms, they have like a children's section,
- 9:59Speaker 2: like a kid's filter or something like that, right, um,
- 10:01Speaker 2: but I don't know whether it's too complicated to set
- 10:03Speaker 2: that up for, you know, platforms like Instagram and TikTok,
- 10:06Speaker 2: for example, because what, what makes you think that people
- 10:08Speaker 2: are not just lying about their age and registering for themselves, yeah.
- 10:13Speaker 1: 13 to 16 year olds. Would you want to go
- 10:16Speaker 1: to YouTube Kids? No.
- 10:18Speaker 2: No, but meaning to say, what if they, they only
- 10:21Speaker 2: allow you to use it if there's like authentication from
- 10:24Speaker 2: the parents, for example. I'm curious because look, Jo and
- 10:28Speaker 2: I are not parents, but we understand.
- 10:31Speaker 2: What social media has caused in the last few years,
- 10:34Speaker 2: while it has its good side, it also has the downsides.
- 10:37Speaker 1: But being a cheeky 1 to 16 year old. Yeah,
- 10:42Speaker 1: you
- 10:42Speaker 1: know, you want to be the cool one saying, hey, hey,
- 10:44Speaker 1: I got YouTube, I got YouTube, can watch watch that
- 10:47Speaker 1: kind of thing, you know what I mean? Yeah,
- 10:48Speaker 2: I, yeah, I'm the opposite of you. I'm just you're
- 10:51Speaker 2: the quiet one. I'm scared to be rebellious, but as
- 10:54Speaker 2: a teenager, I was a little rebellious in other ways,
- 10:57Speaker 2: in other ways.
- 10:58Speaker 2: So yeah, anyway, we're, we're, we're gonna look very closely
- 11:01Speaker 2: at this because for Joakim and I, sometimes we get
- 11:04Speaker 2: invited by schools to go down to talk about how
- 11:07Speaker 2: to use social media better and you know, how to
- 11:09Speaker 2: have better behavior on there.
- 11:10Speaker 2: So we are also learning like things to say, how to,
- 11:13Speaker 2: how to do this talk and make it fun and
- 11:16Speaker 2: engaging for you without coming across like we're nagging at you.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Whenever this topic, I feel as if we're fighting a wave.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and, and it's like at the same time because
- 11:26Speaker 2: we are also so much on social media, right, we
- 11:30Speaker 2: also understand it from like a user standpoint, how dangerous
- 11:33Speaker 2: it can be for young kids. And
- 11:34Speaker 1: don't be surprised those comments that we get from.
- 11:37Speaker 1: accounts leaving very nasty messages or even
- 11:40Speaker 1: scathing comments. They could
- 11:43Speaker 1: be kids who are 13 to 16
- 11:45Speaker 1: years old.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Oh, you're so right. You're so right, because they wouldn't
- 11:47Speaker 2: know better, right? They're like, oh, no one will know
- 11:49Speaker 2: who I am, so I'm just gonna
- 11:51Speaker 2: comment.
- 11:51Speaker 1: So let's see what happens and let's see how they
- 11:53Speaker 1: improve it.
- 11:54Speaker 2: Yeah, and I, I, I, I think it's safe to
- 11:56Speaker 2: say the next hour or so is proudly brought to
- 11:58Speaker 2: you by the National Day Rally.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I mean, look, every single radio station.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Every single news outlet. Yeah, you're gonna read all about
- 12:08Speaker 1: the NDR for
- 12:09Speaker 2: sure and all the news and any sort of sites
- 12:13Speaker 2: that have any writers or journalists at all, they would
- 12:17Speaker 2: have been churning out like social media posts last night already.
- 12:20Speaker 1: One of my
- 12:20Speaker 1: favorite parts about the NDR watching it live, right, is
- 12:23Speaker 1: when the camera cuts to the audience for their reactions
- 12:26Speaker 1: to what PM just said, then some are like, Must
- 12:28Speaker 1: I clap? OK I clap.
- 12:31Speaker 2: If they cut and your eyes are closed, can you
- 12:33Speaker 2: imagine you're going to be a meme
- 12:35Speaker 1: to which it has
- 12:35Speaker 1: happened before, a long time ago. Anyway, come, OK, I, I,
- 12:40Speaker 1: I have my best three moments and best 3 revelations
- 12:44Speaker 1: from last night, OK? And look, before I get to it,
- 12:47Speaker 1: as a single person here in Singapore,
- 12:50Speaker 2: do you feel excluded no, no, no,
- 12:51Speaker 1: OK, excluded is one way to.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Put it, but as somebody who understands what Singapore is
- 12:57Speaker 1: going through right now, I cannot go and say, hey,
- 13:00Speaker 1: what about singles now, you know, I want it now. Cannot,
- 13:04Speaker 1: because we're trying to have more families.
- 13:06Speaker 2: We're trying to address other issues. That's what you mean.
- 13:09Speaker 1: It's only
- 13:09Speaker 1: been rubbed in our face so that our TFR is
- 13:11Speaker 1: very low, so they, they have task force and multi-ministry
- 13:15Speaker 1: task force.
- 13:16Speaker 1: To come and help and all that
- 13:17Speaker 2: wasn't it just announced a few weeks ago that the
- 13:19Speaker 2: birth rate has been the lowest in years,
- 13:22Speaker 1: exactly. So in terms of families who have now got
- 13:25Speaker 1: $10,000 gift. Wow. There's $32,000 worth of child credits from
- 13:32Speaker 1: 1 to 16 years old, so $2000 each year. We
- 13:35Speaker 1: got the $5000 child development account to which.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Will co-match with $5000 and $10,000 post-secondary uh credits to
- 13:44Speaker 1: use as well. And then for the housing area, one
- 13:48Speaker 1: additional ballot chance for each Singapore citizen child aged 18
- 13:53Speaker 1: and below. So how Sonia? Wow.
- 13:57Speaker 2: So it really increases your chances in more ways than one,
- 14:00Speaker 2: like a lot of different.
- 14:01Speaker 2: OK, so here's, here's my thought, right? Yes, aside from
- 14:04Speaker 2: the fact that things are expensive and it's expensive to
- 14:07Speaker 2: raise a kid here in Singapore, but aside from that,
- 14:09Speaker 2: I worry that um upon talking to my friends, right,
- 14:14Speaker 2: who are obviously all millennials and we are, I think,
- 14:18Speaker 2: very responsible for the lack of children right now.
- 14:21Speaker 2: It's not just about that though. I think a lot
- 14:23Speaker 2: of them just want to live life without having to
- 14:26Speaker 2: take care of a child. It's not, and some of
- 14:28Speaker 2: my friends are doing well. They can very well, very
- 14:31Speaker 2: much get married and afford to, to raise a kid
- 14:34Speaker 2: or get an apartment, you know what I mean? They've
- 14:35Speaker 2: been working for, for a
- 14:36Speaker 2: bit.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it's
- 14:40Speaker 1: a combination of a
- 14:41Speaker 1: few things. They're kind of saying we are encouraging you,
- 14:44Speaker 1: but of course.
- 14:45Speaker 1: It's up to us as people to do the homework
- 14:48Speaker 1: on whether are we ready to be
- 14:50Speaker 1: parents,
- 14:51Speaker 2: you know, I, I actually think that what they're doing,
- 14:54Speaker 2: there are a lot of good points there.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And one other thing, going underground to Tekong. Oh, that
- 14:59Speaker 1: one got the loudest response.
- 15:02Speaker 2: How is it? OK, so amidst all the updates, I
- 15:05Speaker 2: think we have, we, you know, our friends from like CNA,
- 15:08Speaker 2: for example, were working overtime.
- 15:10Speaker 2: To get all the updates out from National Day Rally
- 15:12Speaker 2: last night.
- 15:13Speaker 1: So again, giving a, a huge shout out to all
- 15:16Speaker 1: our media outlets here in Singapore. Sleepless, all probably typing,
- 15:21Speaker 1: making sure there was no typo errors and all that,
- 15:24Speaker 1: and all these videos.
- 15:25Speaker 1: Memes from the more fun media outlets here in Singapore
- 15:29Speaker 1: that we're seeing
- 15:30Speaker 2: for sure. But one thing that also caught my eye,
- 15:33Speaker 2: aside from, you know, the, the, the singles making a
- 15:36Speaker 2: lot of noise and like, there were a lot of
- 15:38Speaker 2: um news related to families and all that, right? Yeah.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Um, aside from that, a major refresh is planned, is
- 15:45Speaker 2: being planned for Sentosa and Pulau Brani, Joakim. So, it's
- 15:51Speaker 2: so funny because, you know, every time I drive to Sentosa, right,
- 15:53Speaker 2: you will see like um the Brani Gate sign or
- 15:57Speaker 2: like Branni something.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Right, Brani Gate, if I'm not wrong, I'm assuming it's
- 16:01Speaker 2: around that area. I'm not gonna lie, I always think
- 16:04Speaker 2: of Biryani when I look at the sign, I get it, um,
- 16:07Speaker 2: but a major refresh is being planned right now to
- 16:10Speaker 2: reclaim land to connect Branni and Sentosa.
- 16:15Speaker 2: To become one integrated destination where there will be a
- 16:18Speaker 2: lot of new attractions and experiences.
- 16:21Speaker 1: You know, I love running so much, right, to the
- 16:24Speaker 1: point where I'm thinking Pulau Bran, and Sentosa can run
- 16:27Speaker 1: half marathon.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Hey, you know, this could be another way for brands
- 16:31Speaker 2: to come in and sell something, right?
- 16:33Speaker 1: And I think our friends over at NTUC because he
- 16:38Speaker 1: said Downtown resort to which way we got Downtown East.
- 16:42Speaker 2: Downtown East, we got
- 16:42Speaker 1: Downtown South Future Future,
- 16:45Speaker 2: yeah. Do we have
- 16:45Speaker 1: Downtown North Downtown West? Don't
- 16:47Speaker 2: have, I think let's not confuse ourselves even more. There's
- 16:50Speaker 2: gonna be so many.
- 16:51Speaker 2: But yeah, hey, look, like this is quite exciting because it's,
- 16:55Speaker 2: I don't think I've ever considered that possibility in my life.
- 16:58Speaker 2: I didn't know that this was in the works and
- 17:00Speaker 2: it was being considered, and people always say like, ah yeah,
- 17:03Speaker 2: Singapore is so boring, boring, like what can you do
- 17:05Speaker 2: in Singapore? So now it's your chance to tell us, OK?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Since they've just announced the initial phase, OK, that they
- 17:13Speaker 2: are making it one integrated place, perhaps they're still listening
- 17:16Speaker 2: to us to find out what is there that you
- 17:19Speaker 2: want to see.
- 17:20Speaker 2: Um, in these new destinations. So what would you like
- 17:23Speaker 2: to see at the new integrated area of Sentosa and Branni? Yeah,
- 17:27Speaker 2: I
- 17:27Speaker 1: mean, don't forget, near Bran, the future Great Southern Waterfront,
- 17:32Speaker 1: the BTOs of Keppel will be coming up as well.
- 17:34Speaker 1: So I'm just wondering how would they mitigate the flow
- 17:37Speaker 1: to Vivo City and maybe even weave at Sentosa.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how that develops because
- 17:45Speaker 2: like you said.
- 17:46Speaker 2: A lot more people are going to move into that zone.
- 17:48Speaker 2: So this could be part of it as well, but
- 17:50Speaker 2: also it's going to be a big tourist attraction, I'm sure, right?
- 17:53Speaker 2: Like linking Sentosa with another island. Like damn. OK,
- 17:56Speaker 1: here's what I don't want to see. I don't want
- 18:00Speaker 1: another Marina Bay Sands or I kind of vibes.
- 18:02Speaker 2: I don't think that because there's already RWS, right, whereas
- 18:05Speaker 1: there's
- 18:05Speaker 1: lots of branded stuff like I wouldn't mind maybe say
- 18:09Speaker 1: one more nightlife spot over at the Brani area.
- 18:13Speaker 1: For both Singaporeans and tourists to go and enjoy because,
- 18:15Speaker 2: but the problem with having nightlife on an island is
- 18:18Speaker 2: people just don't want to get in and out. That's
- 18:20Speaker 2: why you have your beach clubs in Sentosa, but they
- 18:23Speaker 2: like before midnight, you know, so it's still possible for
- 18:26Speaker 2: you to
- 18:26Speaker 1: get home to the bridge.
- 18:31Speaker 1: Yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 2: but you know, you know, people, they convenience.
- 18:34Speaker 1: What do you want to see Pulau Sentosa? You know,
- 18:37Speaker 2: I haven't really thought of it because
- 18:39Speaker 2: When you think of that, you think, oh, should they
- 18:41Speaker 2: put another like theme park, but then they'll cannibalize USS, right? Exactly.
- 18:45Speaker 2: So what can they put there? I'm very curious, um,
- 18:47Speaker 2: maybe like a big wellness attraction or something, you know,
- 18:51Speaker 2: like a wellness destination perhaps. People are really into that nowadays,
- 18:55Speaker 2: biohacking and all
- 18:56Speaker 2: that.
- 18:56Speaker 1: So I guess they want to give the upcoming Marina Bay,
- 18:59Speaker 1: for its money.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Yeah, you see, so that that's another one that I'm curious.
- 19:03Speaker 2: What do they want to put on Pulau Brani?
- 19:05Speaker 1: Why not you call us 669-11987 or you can WhatsApp
- 19:09Speaker 1: us at 90050987. What do you want to see at
- 19:13Speaker 1: Pulau Brow?
- 19:14Speaker 2: Or maybe it could be like our own mini mini Bali,
- 19:18Speaker 2: you know, like a whole resort resort island.
- 19:21Speaker 1: Then if you're not careful, we could see Malas and no,
- 19:27Speaker 2: no, no, no,
- 19:27Speaker 1: I mean you know all the usual brands
- 19:29Speaker 1: that we see. No, no, we love you guys.
- 19:32Speaker 1: There's too many here in
- 19:32Speaker 2: Singapore. I think, I think big plans are underway. But
- 19:38Speaker 2: let's just say that you have a hand in deciding
- 19:41Speaker 2: what to what to put on Pulau Brani and this
- 19:45Speaker 2: entire new integrated area with Sentosa and Bran.
- 19:47Speaker 2: What would you place there? What kind of experiences? What
- 19:50Speaker 2: kind of attractions? What kind of resorts would you like
- 19:53Speaker 2: to see there? Let us know. 669-11987. Just get creative
- 19:57Speaker 2: with it. In exchange, we got this wonderful dining experience
- 20:00Speaker 2: at Marcella. For 2, by the way, it is worth $256.
- 20:05Speaker 2: This is over at Pan Pacific. When it comes to
- 20:07Speaker 2: developments here in Singapore, right? Much like the song we
- 20:09Speaker 2: just heard, sometimes I feel like they, they go in
- 20:12Speaker 2: in the middle of the night, build the whole thing.
- 20:14Speaker 2: The next day when I wake up, I'm like, eh.
- 20:16Speaker 2: This building appeared like when, when it actually happens. Yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 2: you don't notice and then suddenly a whole establishments, right?
- 20:23Speaker 1: And somehow I feel Sonia and I are unofficial members
- 20:25Speaker 1: of the Pulau building planning community.
- 20:28Speaker 2: So on the back of everything that came out from
- 20:31Speaker 2: your National Day rally, I thought, you know, this one
- 20:33Speaker 2: is quite a cute one and we can have some
- 20:35Speaker 2: fun with it. Let's just say Singaporeans, OK, we have
- 20:39Speaker 2: an opinion and we have our thoughts and we're almost
- 20:41Speaker 2: like playing Sims to some extent, right?
- 20:43Speaker 2: And we're, we're allowed to give some ideas as to
- 20:47Speaker 2: what to have on Pulau Brady, since they're doing a
- 20:50Speaker 2: bit of like a
- 20:51Speaker 2: Uh, uh, combination situation with Sentosa, Pulau Brani. There's gonna
- 20:56Speaker 2: be a link between the two. So it's a one
- 20:59Speaker 2: whole area, one integrated area now, you know, it's gonna
- 21:01Speaker 2: be really cool.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I would not
- 21:02Speaker 1: be surprised if this is when it's, maybe in the
- 21:05Speaker 1: next decade or so. There could be like a half marathon.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Staged over
- 21:09Speaker 1: there.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I mean, there could be so many things, right?
- 21:11Speaker 1: Oh, how about building a cinema with an IMAX 70 screening?
- 21:17Speaker 2: Or you know what, they should bring back like drive-in movies.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I used to see that from like the 90s or something.
- 21:23Speaker 2: And my parents used to say that.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Yeah, like you can drive, you know, into a big
- 21:28Speaker 2: giant parking lot. They have a giant screen, then you
- 21:31Speaker 2: have like booths and people selling stuff and you can
- 21:33Speaker 2: just eat and watch a movie from
- 21:35Speaker 1: your
- 21:35Speaker 2: car.
- 21:35Speaker 1: Come on to our friends at NTUC. That'd be really
- 21:38Speaker 2: cool, right? Honestly. So anyway, we want to head to
- 21:40Speaker 2: our messages first to find out what would you like
- 21:42Speaker 2: to see if you had full reign over what to
- 21:45Speaker 2: see at Pulla Brani.
- 21:46Speaker 1: One coming in from Shah who says, Hey guys, I
- 21:49Speaker 1: truly believe Singapore should have a Disneyland.
- 21:53Speaker 1: of its own.
- 21:53Speaker 2: Yeah, about time.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Imagine stepping onto a magical piece of land where the
- 21:57Speaker 1: towering castle greeted from afar, cheerful music fills the air
- 22:00Speaker 1: and beloved Disney characters come to life before our eyes.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Instead of traveling overseas just to experience the magic, family
- 22:07Speaker 1: could simply hop on the MRT and enter a world
- 22:09Speaker 1: of adventure right here in Singapore.
- 22:12Speaker 2: You know, here's the part, right, because we've been on
- 22:15Speaker 2: the Disney cruise before, Joakim. Can you imagine if it's
- 22:18Speaker 2: part of like the package?
- 22:20Speaker 2: So you get to go on the cruise, you stop
- 22:22Speaker 2: here and then you get to stay at Disneyland Singapore.
- 22:26Speaker 1: If
- 22:26Speaker 1: they do build a Disneyland Singapore over on Pulau Brani,
- 22:29Speaker 1: our friends over at LTA SMRT all get involved because
- 22:33Speaker 1: there will be a massive congestion going to Pulau Brani
- 22:37Speaker 1: and going into Sentosa.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Maybe there'll be a new and additional train station there.
- 22:41Speaker 2: I
- 22:41Speaker 1: don't
- 22:42Speaker 2: know.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Let's see. Perhaps one more coming in from John saying
- 22:44Speaker 1: let's build a futuristic future town.
- 22:47Speaker 1: There for us to experience the power of technologies and
- 22:50Speaker 1: maybe even AI. What they can help and bring to
- 22:53Speaker 1: us before it populates the main island. I volunteer to
- 22:57Speaker 1: live in Future town.
- 22:58Speaker 2: It's an island. It's an island.
- 23:03Speaker 2: But spelled A I S L. OK. Just don't put
- 23:06Speaker 2: me in charge of any branding whatsoever. A worldwide
- 23:12Speaker 1: has improved.
- 23:13Speaker 2: Right? I mean, Singapore, we're always at the forefront of
- 23:15Speaker 2: many things, very possible. OK. When we come back, um,
- 23:19Speaker 2: some of you hanging on the line and more of
- 23:20Speaker 2: your messages, you can still get your opinions in and
- 23:23Speaker 2: your thoughts. What would you like to see?
- 23:26Speaker 2: On the new Pulla Brani area. Since they're gonna be
- 23:29Speaker 2: combining it together with Sentosa, it's gonna be a massive attraction.
- 23:33Speaker 2: What would you like to see? In exchange, we've got
- 23:35Speaker 2: a lovely treat thanks to Marcella over at Pan Pacific
- 23:37Speaker 2: Orchard Hotel. Catch Zahra Larsson very soon, of course, here
- 23:40Speaker 2: in Singapore, very excited for that. But for now,
- 23:43Speaker 2: We wanted to ask you, on the back of all
- 23:45Speaker 2: that was announced for National Day Rally, one of the
- 23:48Speaker 2: things that caught my eye was actually the combination of
- 23:50Speaker 2: Pulau Brani and Sentosa, and how they're going to turn
- 23:53Speaker 2: it into like a massive attraction area. Yeah. So what
- 23:55Speaker 2: would you like to see on Pulau
- 23:57Speaker 1: Brani? I want to say good morning to G. Morning, Sojo.
- 24:00Speaker 1: I want to see an entire island that's pet friendly,
- 24:03Speaker 1: so we can bring our fur kits out without any restrictions.
- 24:07Speaker 1: Most importantly, the restaurants there will have to provide air-conditioned,
- 24:10Speaker 1: indoor seating for our pets. Yes, so we can escape
- 24:12Speaker 1: from the.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Sweltering heat on Singapore.
- 24:15Speaker 2: Yesterday was a particularly hot day. I completely feel this
- 24:18Speaker 2: texter's pain because we brought Maxi, the dog out, and
- 24:22Speaker 2: um I think she was very hot because she kept,
- 24:24Speaker 2: you know, dogs perspire by like when they stick their
- 24:26Speaker 2: tongue out and they're like panting, right? It may indicate
- 24:29Speaker 2: that they are very hot. So we kept giving her water.
- 24:31Speaker 2: She had like two ice cubes in my hand and
- 24:33Speaker 2: she was loving it. So please, if they could have
- 24:35Speaker 2: an air conditioned zone for us and our pets, that
- 24:38Speaker 2: would be fantastic.
- 24:39Speaker 1: Not to be a negative Nancy, but if I was
- 24:42Speaker 1: working for AVA.
- 24:42Speaker 1: When I heard this text, I'll be on full alert
- 24:45Speaker 1: to receive the highest amount of complaints about Aaron pet owners.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I don't think so actually. So, so over at New Bahru,
- 24:53Speaker 2: for example, most of the shops there are pet friendly,
- 24:56Speaker 2: you know, so you can bring your dogs in and
- 24:59Speaker 2: walk around the shop. I mean they allow it across
- 25:01Speaker 2: most shops in New Bahru and the restaurants also. A
- 25:04Speaker 1: as in
- 25:04Speaker 1: pet owner arguing with another pet owner. I came first. Hey,
- 25:08Speaker 1: my dog here first. I know what I mean.
- 25:10Speaker 2: I
- 25:10Speaker 2: hope not because so far.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I feel personally, I feel like pet owners tend to
- 25:17Speaker 2: tend to be quite understanding towards one another. It's, it's
- 25:20Speaker 2: like when you have a baby and you look at
- 25:22Speaker 2: someone else who has a baby who is experiencing the
- 25:24Speaker 2: same problems, you know what I mean?
- 25:27Speaker 1: One coming in from PL. Hey, morning, Soki. Happy Monday.
- 25:31Speaker 1: If Sentosa and Pulaui became one island, I hope we
- 25:34Speaker 1: don't just build another world-class attraction. I hope we build
- 25:38Speaker 1: a world-class Singaporean experience. I call it Singapore's living heart.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Where our grandparents' kampong memories meet our children's future, bring
- 25:46Speaker 1: back old school playgrounds, provision shops, hawker stalls, traditional games,
- 25:51Speaker 1: and disappearing trades. A free beaches, nature trails, sea adventures,
- 25:57Speaker 1: and affordable family spaces. Let every race, generation, and neighborhood
- 26:01Speaker 1: have a little piece of the island. Dude,
- 26:03Speaker 2: that's actually quite cool, man. Like it could also be
- 26:05Speaker 2: a worldwide attraction if you know what I mean. Look
- 26:08Speaker 2: up at
- 26:08Speaker 1: Pulau Brani trail.
- 26:12Speaker 1: OK, lah, still can, but it won't be as big
- 26:14Speaker 1: as MacRitchie or stuff like
- 26:16Speaker 1: that.
- 26:16Speaker 2: It would be quite cool if they could build a
- 26:18Speaker 2: like a kampong, you know what I mean, because as
- 26:21Speaker 2: you know, here in Singapore, we don't have much left anymore.
- 26:24Speaker 2: In fact, I think we only got one, right, left, left, uh,
- 26:26Speaker 1: Buangkok
- 26:30Speaker 2: if I'm not wrong.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Yeah, um, not, not a lot left at all. So
- 26:35Speaker 2: that could be, that could be a good idea. Yeah,
- 26:40Speaker 2: it's like a time travel sort of situation, right, you
- 26:42Speaker 2: go back in time to experience things that we never
- 26:45Speaker 2: got to experience in our parents' and grandparents' time. Charlotte
- 26:48Speaker 2: is on the line. What about you? OK, it's an island, right,
- 26:52Speaker 2: we can just
- 26:52Speaker 2: F1 peak there. And you know, every time, every year
- 26:55Speaker 2: F1 peak, right, the, the Suntec area will be always
- 26:58Speaker 2: very jammed with all the roadblocks. So I think if
- 27:01Speaker 2: they put it at the island, right, it will be
- 27:03Speaker 2: like super fantastic for the traffic. So,
- 27:07Speaker 1: OK, so I just did a calculation of the perimeter
- 27:10Speaker 1: and the width of Pulau Brani.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Uh, approximate length of Pulau Brani is 2.5 km with
- 27:16Speaker 1: a width of up to 1 km. So
- 27:18Speaker 2: it
- 27:19Speaker 1: might not be enough unless they combine Sentosa. But where
- 27:23Speaker 1: can they do it in Sentosa?
- 27:24Speaker 2: Uh, I don't know. Or maybe they can have like
- 27:27Speaker 2: another league there like the F3 or F2 or something else, like,
- 27:31Speaker 2: you know, the F1 Academy league. I don't know. That
- 27:33Speaker 2: could be really cool or go-karting championships. Yeah, yeah, I
- 27:35Speaker 2: don't mind, man.
- 27:36Speaker 2: I think it's high time that Singapore has a go-karting
- 27:38Speaker 2: scene because all of us always go to Malaysia for that. Yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 2: you know, that could be cool. Thank you so much, Charlotte,
- 27:44Speaker 2: for your call. When we come back, more of your
- 27:46Speaker 2: messages and we still got time for your calls actually,
- 27:48Speaker 2: if you want to dial in, 669-11987. If you had
- 27:53Speaker 2: a say in what to see on Pulau Brani, now
- 27:56Speaker 2: that they might just make it a whole big attraction,
- 27:58Speaker 2: linking up with Sentosa and all that.
- 28:00Speaker 2: And we, we cannot call Singapore boring anymore. OK,
- 28:02Speaker 1: we
- 28:03Speaker 1: got one coming in from Chris. Chris says, morning, Sonia
- 28:06Speaker 1: and Joakim. As a history and heritage enthusiast, I would
- 28:09Speaker 1: love for Pulau Bi to retain its military and kampong
- 28:13Speaker 1: historical traces. And before it was a container hub, Pulau
- 28:17Speaker 1: Brani was actually home to tin smelting, Kampong houses on
- 28:21Speaker 1: stilts on the muddy swamps at the coastal front.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Maybe they can build a resort similar to the idea
- 28:27Speaker 1: along the coastal front and also the 1800s underground tunnels.
- 28:32Speaker 1: Hope they keep it an integrated part of the whole
- 28:34Speaker 1: development.
- 28:35Speaker 2: Actually, that's a good idea. I mean, if you think
- 28:36Speaker 2: about it, right, if you've ever been to the Maldives, um,
- 28:39Speaker 2: their resorts are also built on the water, so it's
- 28:42Speaker 2: like an upgraded kampong situation. They could open like a,
- 28:46Speaker 2: you know, on, on water sort of resort thing.
- 28:49Speaker 2: For for people to
- 28:50Speaker 1: visit. By the way, Sentosa, Pulau Bran, and other small
- 28:54Speaker 1: islands around Sentosa and Mount Faber, they actually hold a
- 28:58Speaker 1: lot of history,
- 28:59Speaker 2: a lot of it. If you, if you take the
- 29:01Speaker 2: time to read about it and just go there and
- 29:03Speaker 2: take photos, that would be, that would be cool.
- 29:06Speaker 1: So don't forget Sentosa's name was Pul Mati.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Yeah, which is not the most, I would say marketable name.
- 29:15Speaker 2: I'm glad they changed it. We still have a few
- 29:17Speaker 2: more messages we want to read out before we award
- 29:20Speaker 2: today's winner. And the question is, seeing how there's going
- 29:23Speaker 2: to be a new area of attraction with Pulla Brani
- 29:26Speaker 2: and Sentosa being combined with a link, it's gonna be
- 29:28Speaker 2: a link. I wonder if it's gonna be a tunnel,
- 29:30Speaker 2: a bridge or like what's going on there. I'm sure
- 29:31Speaker 2: it's a bridge. Yeah, we're curious to know more details
- 29:34Speaker 2: will be revealed soon, I'm sure.
- 29:36Speaker 2: We, we asked you this. If you had full reign
- 29:38Speaker 2: over what will be on Pulau Brani, what would it be?
- 29:41Speaker 1: We
- 29:42Speaker 1: don't really have your name on WhatsApp, but it's a
- 29:44Speaker 1: username heart. Morning, Sojo. Can they use the space as
- 29:48Speaker 1: a living space and community for single ladies? Oh, OK.
- 29:52Speaker 1: Me and my friends talked about having our own living spaces,
- 29:54Speaker 1: but still interactive to foster social relations.
- 29:57Speaker 2: OK, so this one Love Island.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Either that or the sirens from Odyssey. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey,
- 30:03Speaker 1: what you sing the song, all the men come swimming
- 30:05Speaker 1: to you,
- 30:06Speaker 2: AKA Joakim. Like, if he knew how to swim, he
- 30:09Speaker 2: will swim to you. He'll kayak towards you
- 30:11Speaker 1: kayak.
- 30:14Speaker 2: Any other messages before we wrap
- 30:16Speaker 2: it up
- 30:16Speaker 1: here? Actually, we, we are done with all our texts
- 30:20Speaker 1: already and actually one more coming in from Lionel. Yes,
- 30:24Speaker 1: there you go. Hey, morning guys. I love to see
- 30:26Speaker 1: Pulau Brani become a beautiful waterfront lifestyle and leisure district
- 30:30Speaker 1: with seaside parks, cycling paths, a sheltered swimming lagoon, good
- 30:35Speaker 1: local food, and sunset dining, something visitors can enjoy.
- 30:38Speaker 1: But also somewhere Singaporeans who genuinely want to return again
- 30:42Speaker 1: and again with family and friends.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Nice. Yeah, all very good ideas. I really hope that
- 30:47Speaker 2: the powers that be are tuning in or someone from
- 30:49Speaker 2: their from their team are tuning in now, listening to
- 30:52Speaker 2: the Singaporeans' suggestions.
- 30:53Speaker 1: My only request is this, the pricing point.
- 30:57Speaker 2: OK, don't be so premium, is it? Can
- 30:58Speaker 1: it be Singapore prices, not Sentosa
- 31:00Speaker 2: prices? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I get you. I mean,
- 31:04Speaker 2: The only problem is, I guess, if it's more, if
- 31:06Speaker 2: it's very accessible, maybe it won't be so challenging, for example,
- 31:11Speaker 2: to yeah, get transportation there, but thank you so much
- 31:13Speaker 2: for all your messages and your suggestions, your calls. Only
- 31:16Speaker 2: one person though can walk away with this wonderful Marcella
- 31:20Speaker 2: dining experience for two, worth $256 at Pan Pacific Orchard Hotel.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Gee, who texted us this morning. Gee, congratulations.
- 31:28Speaker 2: Marcella has just launched a new daily a la carte menu.
- 31:31Speaker 2: Aside from their Saturday brunch, of course. They've got separate
- 31:34Speaker 2: lunch and dinner offerings differentiated by portion size. So that's
- 31:37Speaker 2: music to my ears. By day, you can have tapas,
- 31:41Speaker 2: you know, and at night you can feast on like
- 31:42Speaker 2: different sharing platters, charcoal grilled meats, seafood, even the Spanish.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Suckling pig
- 31:48Speaker 1: and the TLDR for G's message earlier was more of
- 31:51Speaker 1: a place to bring our fur kit out without any
- 31:54Speaker 1: restrictions or restrictions.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I agree. Yeah, I hope that happens.
- 31:58Speaker 1: Well, Gee, if Pulau Brani won't work for you, there's
- 32:00Speaker 1: still one Holland Village. Yeah,
- 32:02Speaker 2: that's true. They need to expand it though. Not too
- 32:04Speaker 2: many dogs there.
- 32:05Speaker 1: It's a daily convention over there. I
- 32:07Speaker 2: I wonder what they're gossiping about.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Anyway, enjoy and please follow them. Visit Pan Pacific Orchard
- 32:13Speaker 2: on Instagram for more info. It doesn't seem to be
- 32:16Speaker 2: a safe time for uncles in coffee shops and hawker
- 32:18Speaker 2: centers right now. And. No, and not too soon because
- 32:22Speaker 2: something just happened again, just a few days ago that
- 32:26Speaker 2: made us Singaporeans say this, especially in the social media space, OK.
- 32:29Speaker 2: The consensus is not a safe time for uncles at
- 32:32Speaker 2: the kopitiams
- 32:34Speaker 1: and pet the
- 32:34Speaker 1: child's head. No, no,
- 32:35Speaker 2: no such thing, but another fight broke out actually, taking
- 32:39Speaker 2: you over to UT food court right now, and this
- 32:42Speaker 2: video was making its rounds just yesterday actually. I, I
- 32:45Speaker 2: saw it on social media. Now officially there are some
- 32:48Speaker 2: articles that were released last night, OK. So over at
- 32:51Speaker 2: UT food court in this video.
- 32:53Speaker 2: It was seen like this older guy, I think he's
- 32:56Speaker 2: in his 70s, and another man who's possibly in his 50s, um,
- 33:01Speaker 2: were getting into a bit of a verbal like fight. OK,
- 33:03Speaker 2: I couldn't really hear what they were saying, but it
- 33:06Speaker 2: was something along the lines of like, um, you want
- 33:08Speaker 2: quiet people, go out, we go outside, ah, you know,
- 33:10Speaker 2: that kind of conversation. OK, that, that's vaguely what I
- 33:13Speaker 2: heard in the video. Um, and the, the funny thing
- 33:17Speaker 2: was not so funny, but the face palm worthy thing was.
- 33:21Speaker 2: The person taking the video didn't do anything to try
- 33:24Speaker 2: and stop the fight before it escalated.
- 33:28Speaker 2: To which I'm just wondering if maybe this person was
- 33:31Speaker 2: so close to the incident and other people were just
- 33:34Speaker 2: sitting down eating, minding their own business. I feel like
- 33:36Speaker 2: someone should have stopped the fight before it escalated to
- 33:39Speaker 2: the point where one man threw the chair and pushed
- 33:42Speaker 2: the other guy to the ground, you know.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Can
- 33:43Speaker 2: I,
- 33:44Speaker 1: can I ask
- 33:44Speaker 1: you a question, Sonia? You see a chick fight happening, OK,
- 33:47Speaker 2: girl,
- 33:48Speaker 1: and you see
- 33:49Speaker 1: chairs being flung. Would you want to stop the fight
- 33:51Speaker 1: or run away?
- 33:52Speaker 2: Um, depends. Are they drunk? Like, are they at a club?
- 33:56Speaker 2: If it's a club setting, maybe I won't, I won't
- 33:58Speaker 2: chop in because people might be intoxicated. Yeah, and the
- 34:01Speaker 2: bouncers and the guards got it, but if it's between
- 34:03Speaker 2: like an elderly person and, you know, like in a
- 34:06Speaker 2: public space, I might try to, to help.
- 34:10Speaker 1: Again, we don't know what happened. Yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 2: I mean,
- 34:12Speaker 1: there's no backstory to how the fight started as
- 34:14Speaker 2: well. They're just arguing and threatening each other and the
- 34:18Speaker 2: older man fell to the ground. So I think police
- 34:21Speaker 2: investigation is still ongoing. There's not, not much information coming
- 34:23Speaker 2: out for now. No one really knows what happened, so
- 34:27Speaker 2: we'll see if there's any further story coming through.
- 34:29Speaker 1: You know, based on my knowledge, right, even people part
- 34:33Speaker 1: of societies, which of course are illegal here in Singapore,
- 34:36Speaker 1: they have a code, you know.
- 34:37Speaker 2: What, what?
- 34:38Speaker 1: Old people and women never have a hit if you're
- 34:41Speaker 1: a man,
- 34:43Speaker 2: OK,
- 34:43Speaker 1: based on my knowledge.
- 34:44Speaker 2: So it's just
- 34:45Speaker 1: it's random sad to see a 50 year old man
- 34:49Speaker 1: after a 5 year old.
- 34:50Speaker 2: That's why I'm curious like what's the
- 34:52Speaker 1: context, backstory needed here, so we'll
- 34:54Speaker 2: find out soon. We don't know the backstory, identity revealed.
- 34:58Speaker 2: Hopefully the 75 year old man is OK because he
- 35:01Speaker 2: fell to the ground quite badly. Yeah,
- 35:03Speaker 1: OK, I want to give a shout out to two
- 35:06Speaker 1: bros from BT Secondary School. Very proud of you guys
- 35:12Speaker 1: because they actually found a lost wallet. But you know what,
- 35:16Speaker 1: there will always be some sour people on social media.
- 35:20Speaker 2: And wait, what's there to be sour about? They found
- 35:22Speaker 2: a wallet.
- 35:23Speaker 1: You think it's a good deal, right? Let me share
- 35:25Speaker 1: with you what the BT Secondary boys did. OK, actually,
- 35:28Speaker 1: not 23 of them, and you might actually praise them,
- 35:32Speaker 1: but you'd be very surprised at what some, not all,
- 35:34Speaker 1: what some comments were saying. Oh gosh, yeah, internet is OK.
- 35:38Speaker 1: I won't use the word.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Split, but there are one or two comments out of
- 35:42Speaker 1: 10 maybe that are quite sour or, you know, they
- 35:45Speaker 1: are just always sour
- 35:47Speaker 2: people online critical people.
- 35:49Speaker 1: Let's just say if you lose your wallet and in
- 35:51Speaker 1: your wallet there's your IC and your IC has your address, right?
- 35:55Speaker 1: If I show up to your house and return your wallet,
- 35:57Speaker 1: how would you feel?
- 35:59Speaker 2: Grateful, I guess. OK, as long as there are no other,
- 36:03Speaker 2: you know, intentions there because you know, your, your, your
- 36:06Speaker 2: private information I know, but I would probably feel grateful.
- 36:09Speaker 1: OK, so this is what was done on the 12th
- 36:12Speaker 1: of August by three bros from BT Secondary. I wish
- 36:16Speaker 1: I could say your names, but yeah, your pictures are
- 36:18Speaker 1: all available on social media. Well done to my brothers,
- 36:21Speaker 1: by the way. They went down to the house. They
- 36:23Speaker 1: found the bus they found the wallet on bus 129.
- 36:27Speaker 1: And using the owner's IC they checked the address down
- 36:30Speaker 1: and they went down to the house itself to return
- 36:32Speaker 1: and in the video it was quite cute, you know,
- 36:34Speaker 1: they were ding dong ding dong. Nobody
- 36:36Speaker 2: was recorded the whole thing,
- 36:37Speaker 1: uh, no, the
- 36:38Speaker 1: CCTV camera. So one bro said, Hey, maybe they're looking
- 36:41Speaker 1: for the CCTV camera. So this guy took the wallet
- 36:44Speaker 1: and said, Hey, we found your wallet. You know, everything's intact.
- 36:46Speaker 1: The cards are all here. The wallet owner was super grateful,
- 36:51Speaker 1: and I think he shared his thanks on social media,
- 36:53Speaker 1: and I'm very sure the three boys will get.
- 36:56Speaker 1: A special mention in the school assembly, but then there'll
- 37:00Speaker 1: be always one or two comments, right, you should have
- 37:03Speaker 1: gone to the police. Why go to the person's house
- 37:06Speaker 1: to return?
- 37:07Speaker 2: But maybe the person's house is nearby, like in the
- 37:10Speaker 2: in the vicinity.
- 37:12Speaker 2: So I don't get it. Is it
- 37:14Speaker 1: wrong now to go to the person's house to return?
- 37:16Speaker 2: No, I don't
- 37:17Speaker 2: think so,
- 37:17Speaker 1: because if, if I found a wallet and the IC
- 37:20Speaker 1: is there, if it's nearby or if I have time, yeah,
- 37:24Speaker 1: I will go and I'll return it directly because we know,
- 37:26Speaker 1: you know, the police, they go down, collect, sign the
- 37:29Speaker 1: form and all that as compared to returning it directly
- 37:32Speaker 1: to the owner.
- 37:33Speaker 2: Uh, OK, um, the only, the only thing that I
- 37:37Speaker 2: will be concerned about is if it's a, it's a
- 37:42Speaker 2: creepy person that took my details down for the wrong reasons. OK,
- 37:45Speaker 2: that's the only reason why I would be, you know,
- 37:49Speaker 2: worried about that, but they seem like they have pure
- 37:51Speaker 2: intentions to really just return it. Come on, it's like
- 37:55Speaker 2: 3 schoolboys,
- 37:55Speaker 1: right.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Quite cute. The guy was really talking to the camera.
- 38:00Speaker 1: He was doing a live selling of the wallet, saying, Bro,
- 38:03Speaker 1: your cards are all here. The money is all here.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Everything intact, bro.
- 38:06Speaker 2: So here's the thing. If the person, the recipients, and
- 38:09Speaker 2: the person who lost the wallet was grateful and didn't
- 38:11Speaker 2: have an issue with it, why the netizens in the
- 38:15Speaker 2: comment section,
- 38:16Speaker 1: here, here's my favorite phrase. You can post a photo
- 38:19Speaker 1: of a newborn baby, right?
- 38:21Speaker 1: Not everybody will be happy for you. Oh
- 38:23Speaker 2: yeah, for sure. I mean, look at what happened with
- 38:24Speaker 2: Paris Hilton if you recall. Do you remember this? OK.
- 38:28Speaker 2: Speaking of babies, right, so she had a kid when
- 38:30Speaker 2: that kid was just a baby. Now I think maybe
- 38:33Speaker 2: a toddler already. Um, unfortunately, people made fun of the kids,
- 38:37Speaker 2: the size of the kid's head forehead or head or something.
- 38:41Speaker 2: So, I mean, look, it's a baby. Like plenty of
- 38:45Speaker 2: us don't know how we'll look like. You can't predict
- 38:46Speaker 2: how you look like when you grow up just from
- 38:48Speaker 2: a baby photo, right?
- 38:49Speaker 1: I mean, the trolling Paris Hilton has transformed
- 38:54Speaker 1: into
- 38:54Speaker 2: you know what, I will say that she's taken it
- 38:56Speaker 2: with grace and she actually addressed it as well. So
- 38:59Speaker 2: at one point she said she had to put a
- 39:00Speaker 2: hat on her baby's head because people just couldn't stop
- 39:03Speaker 2: criticizing and.
- 39:04Speaker 2: Making comments and she's like, guys, seriously, it's a, it's
- 39:07Speaker 2: a baby. Why are you
- 39:08Speaker 1: doing this? But you know what? Hey, the baby has
- 39:11Speaker 1: more money
- 39:11Speaker 1: than
- 39:11Speaker 2: us. Hey, yeah, and it doesn't even realize that Paris is,
- 39:15Speaker 2: you know, it's mom. Troll
- 39:16Speaker 1: all you want, but yeah, they're going to live a
- 39:18Speaker 1: lavish life as compared to us. We can just go
- 39:20Speaker 1: back to our salty
- 39:20Speaker 2: corners and laugh, laugh however much you want, but Paris
- 39:24Speaker 2: Hilton gives back a lot to society, her own charities,
- 39:27Speaker 2: and she's now one of the highest paid female DJs,
- 39:30Speaker 2: by the way.
- 39:30Speaker 1: Well done.
- 39:32Speaker 2: I think she's, she's one.
- 39:34Speaker 2: An example of just turning people's head into success. She's
- 39:38Speaker 2: really that girl.
- 39:39Speaker 1: I cannot wait for the Paris Hilton. I know, right?
- 39:43Speaker 2: I'm not gonna lie, I caught Paris Hilton at Tomorrowland.
- 39:45Speaker 2: She was actually pretty fun.
- 39:46Speaker 1: I not surprised.
- 39:48Speaker 2: And I forgot to tell you this, Joe, but actually
- 39:50Speaker 2: just yesterday.
- 39:51Speaker 2: I was near your hood, sort of near, sort of near. OK. So, uh,
- 39:56Speaker 2: we went to this Teochew porridge place at Upper Thompson.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I know which one. It's very good. OK, I don't
- 40:01Speaker 2: know what the name is, and I, I never registered it,
- 40:04Speaker 2: but it's at the row of shophouses. Yeah, I know,
- 40:06Speaker 2: and it's like an institution. I think it's been there
- 40:08Speaker 2: for like almost 40 years or something.
- 40:10Speaker 1: I think it's the one I go to as well,
- 40:12Speaker 1: Heng Leong Teochew Porridge.
- 40:13Speaker 2: It's the
- 40:13Speaker 2: one that it looks like a Chinese restaurant.
- 40:16Speaker 2: Right, on the, on the outside, and then when you
- 40:18Speaker 2: go in, it's always packed, you know. There's a big
- 40:19Speaker 1: sign
- 40:19Speaker 1: that says porridge.
- 40:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. It must be the one. I mean,
- 40:23Speaker 2: there can only be one famous one there, right? That's
- 40:25Speaker 2: been there for almost 40 years. So first time going there,
- 40:28Speaker 2: I got roasted by the waiter actually. Honestly, I wouldn't
- 40:33Speaker 2: mind opening up phone lines for this another day, like
- 40:35Speaker 2: maybe tomorrow or something, but just, just before I forget,
- 40:38Speaker 2: you know, this really made me chuckle, so.
- 40:40Speaker 2: Um, we called, we called the waiter over, OK, and, uh, OK,
- 40:44Speaker 2: it was our fault as well. We were a bit
- 40:45Speaker 2: indecisive with our ordering. So we thought we were ready,
- 40:49Speaker 2: but then there were certain things that changed, and then,
- 40:51Speaker 2: you know, we caught some things caught our eye and
- 40:53Speaker 2: stuff like that. And um that wasn't my fault. Then
- 40:56Speaker 2: I ordered barley. That wasn't my fault. Yeah, I ordered barley, right?
- 41:00Speaker 2: Then this young boy, I think it's a family business possibly.
- 41:04Speaker 2: So then I said, OK, wait, I'll have barley. Then
- 41:06Speaker 2: he took down order, then he repeated the order, then
- 41:07Speaker 2: I said, Wait, wait, wait, hold on, does the barley
- 41:09Speaker 2: have a lot of sugar?
- 41:10Speaker 2: Then he said, oh, they already added it in, you know, to,
- 41:13Speaker 2: to mix. So do you see one? I was like,
- 41:15Speaker 2: you know, I changed my mind. I'll have water instead.
- 41:17Speaker 2: He face palmed lah. He face palmed. He laughed and
- 41:20Speaker 2: he face palmed at me for changing my drink order.
- 41:24Speaker 1: And then what
- 41:24Speaker 1: did he say? Did he say anything else? And
- 41:26Speaker 2: then, no, he just faced one the whole table just laughed.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Then my family members say, Hey, you just got snubbed
- 41:31Speaker 2: by the waiter.
- 41:33Speaker 2: Who honestly looks like he was 18 or something like
- 41:35Speaker 2: he's probably their son or grandson working at the restaurant.
- 41:41Speaker 2: This auntie face pumped. OK, then I asked for more
- 41:44Speaker 2: chili because we, the, the one that was on our
- 41:47Speaker 2: table was already like only I don't know, half left
- 41:50Speaker 1: when finishing,
- 41:51Speaker 2: yeah, it was almost done. So I asked for more chili.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Then he looks at me, he's like, nicheosu, right? Like
- 41:58Speaker 2: you finished it, right.
- 42:00Speaker 1: He's just being cheeky with you. Hey,
- 42:03Speaker 2: it's not me, ah,
- 42:05Speaker 1: not
- 42:05Speaker 2: me, OK?
- 42:06Speaker 1: You
- 42:06Speaker 1: got the roast me
- 42:07Speaker 1: face
- 42:07Speaker 2: la. I do, yeah, maybe we'll open up phone lines
- 42:10Speaker 2: for this another day this week. Have you ever been
- 42:11Speaker 2: roasted by service? But it's all good. I, I had
- 42:15Speaker 2: a good laugh about it. I mean, I used
- 42:16Speaker 1: to get it lah. Striker
- 42:19Speaker 2: one la. Yeah, that's right.
- 42:24Speaker 1: Just for my money,
- 42:24Speaker 2: yeah.
