- 2:01Speaker 1: all of those things and more to come, even some
- 2:04Speaker 1: fun principles and games. So check out Girls Call on
- 2:07Speaker 1: Hallmark dot Hey.
- 2:08Speaker 3: Megan, Hey Wendy, let's talk about how Hallmark Channel.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Reposted your video from the other day.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It's a real highlight of my Hallmark content creating career.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I have to say, sure, I need to tell the
- 2:23Speaker 1: people that, even though it was my face on the video,
- 2:26Speaker 1: Wendy was like, hey, make a video and discuss these things.
- 2:30Speaker 1: So Wendy gave me the outline and I just put
- 2:33Speaker 1: it in. This was a real team effort. I really
- 2:34Speaker 1: appreciate everything you talked about.
- 2:37Speaker 3: Well, I have to say it was super exciting to see.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I was so excited you made a great video and
- 2:42Speaker 3: I was happy to see them share it. But in
- 2:45Speaker 3: terms of Hallmark Plus, I have to say, so far.
- 2:48Speaker 2: So good.
- 2:49Speaker 3: It's not as clunky as Hallmark Movies Now was, so
- 2:53Speaker 3: it seems like they've done some back end upgrades, which
- 2:58Speaker 3: makes me happy, and I I really like how they
- 3:00Speaker 3: have organized it.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Yeah, And if you're listening to this and you're like,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I don't know what you're talking about because my app
- 3:07Speaker 1: still says Hallmark Movies Now. One of our TVs had
- 3:10Speaker 1: automatically updated. We turned it on and it was the
- 3:12Speaker 1: Hallmark Plus logo, and the other one had not. So
- 3:16Speaker 1: if that's the case and you're logging in and you're
- 3:18Speaker 1: still looking at the old interface, go to whatever version
- 3:22Speaker 1: your device uses as an app store and run an
- 3:24Speaker 1: update and then you should have the new version. I
- 3:28Speaker 1: also wanted to share early in the morning, someone had
- 3:30Speaker 1: reached out and said, do you know if there's going
- 3:32Speaker 1: to be a way to track viewing the way there
- 3:36Speaker 1: is with like the Hallmark Checklist app, because at that
- 3:38Speaker 1: point Hallmark Plus didn't exist, And I actually messaged someone
- 3:43Speaker 1: high up on the Hallmark team about that, and then
- 3:47Speaker 1: shortly thereafter the shows did appear in the Hallmark Checklist
- 3:52Speaker 1: app under a Hallmark Plus banner. So I am going
- 3:57Speaker 1: to just live under the delusion that we had something
- 3:59Speaker 1: to do with that. But regardless, if you love to
- 4:03Speaker 1: use the Checklist app for tracking your viewing, you can
- 4:06Speaker 1: do that for the new Hallmark Plus shows as well.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Hallmark's like hot, damn, will you just hold on a minute.
- 4:12Speaker 1: We sent Laer Dawn lady.
- 4:14Speaker 2: People here, and we're doing all the work we can.
- 4:18Speaker 1: We're trying to launch an app. My goodness.
- 4:22Speaker 2: All right, let's talk about Chicken Sisters. Is it the
- 4:26Speaker 2: Chicken Sister? It is just it is the Chicken Sisters?
- 4:29Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I just want to make sure that I
- 4:31Speaker 3: am calling it the correct title. U.
- 4:35Speaker 2: My first question is did you finish the book?
- 4:38Speaker 1: I have about five percent left in the book. We're
- 4:40Speaker 1: just like it wrapping up stages at this point. Okay,
- 4:44Speaker 1: So let's I'm going to read a synopsis for episode one,
- 4:47Speaker 1: Family Is Family.
- 4:48Speaker 2: Amanda signs up.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Her husband's Families Fried Chicken restaurant for a reality TV
- 4:53Speaker 3: show called Kitchen Flash.
- 4:54Speaker 2: It will compete with.
- 4:55Speaker 3: Amanda's mom's Family Fried Chicken Restaurant, but only if Amanda
- 5:00Speaker 3: can get her estranged sister May to come home and
- 5:04Speaker 3: help their mom.
- 5:05Speaker 1: For the show, The Chicken Sister's Episode one was written
- 5:11Speaker 1: by Annie McBaine. She's also an e key on the show,
- 5:14Speaker 1: and her previous writing credits include Bad Monkey and Shrinking,
- 5:18Speaker 1: both on Apple TV Plus, as well as The Goldbergs
- 5:20Speaker 1: Community and Happy Endings. That information alone is like this
- 5:25Speaker 1: show is operating on a higher level.
- 5:28Speaker 3: I agree Shrinking such a great show on Apple TV.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Happy Ending is one of my favorite two season sitcoms.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Three season sitcom Maybe I Love It. Jimmy Gatewood directed
- 5:39Speaker 3: this episode. Jimmy has directed twenty seven projects, including Girls
- 5:44Speaker 3: Five Ever, Survival of the Thickest Ghosts, The Big Leap,
- 5:49Speaker 3: and The Babysitters Club.
- 5:51Speaker 1: The Chicken Sisters was adapted from a New York Times
- 5:54Speaker 1: best selling book and a Reese's Book Club selection. As
- 5:58Speaker 1: in Reese witherspoonn by the same name, written by kJ del.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Antonia, Margo Martin Dell voices the narrator. Margo has one
- 6:11Speaker 3: hundred and thirty one acting credits, with six Emmy nominations
- 6:15Speaker 3: and three Emmy wins. Listeners might recognize her from her
- 6:20Speaker 3: role on The Americans and Justified, as well as the
- 6:24Speaker 3: recent Peacock series Missus Davis, where she plays mother Superior.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Lea Thompson plays Nancy. Leah has one hundred and twelve
- 6:31Speaker 1: acting credits, including of course, Back to the Future and
- 6:35Speaker 1: her role on Caroline in the City. This is her
- 6:37Speaker 1: second homework project, having appeared in Next Stop Christmas Wivie
- 6:41Speaker 1: with a Back to the Future homage.
- 6:46Speaker 3: She also appeared in one of my all time favorite
- 6:48Speaker 3: John Hughes movies, Some Kind of Wonderful. Wendy Malick plays
- 6:53Speaker 3: Augusta or Gus for short for readers of the book.
- 6:56Speaker 2: This is the character previously known as Barbara.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Wendy has a deep resume of one hundred and ninety
- 7:04Speaker 3: seven acting credits that include one hundred and forty nine
- 7:07Speaker 3: episodes of Just Shoot Me, one hundred and twenty five
- 7:10Speaker 3: episodes of Hot in Cleveland, the Netflix series The Ranch,
- 7:15Speaker 3: and the sitcom Young Sheldon. As far as we can tell,
- 7:19Speaker 3: this is her first appearance on Hallmark. Barbara is the
- 7:23Speaker 3: name of the character and the book. Yes, I wonder
- 7:27Speaker 3: why they changed it.
- 7:29Speaker 1: Well, and there's a character in the book named Gus
- 7:32Speaker 1: Who's not in the series Mmm Interesting. Skyler Fiske plays Amanda.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Skyler has twenty eight acting credits, including a role in
- 7:41Speaker 1: the two thousand and two movie Orange County co Starr
- 7:43Speaker 1: and Colin Hanks. She also appeared on the CW series
- 7:46Speaker 1: Heart of Dixie, a show that bereters a strong resemblance
- 7:49Speaker 1: to The Chicken Sisters. I Think.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Genevieve Angelson plays Sister May. Genevieve has twenty seven acting credits,
- 7:57Speaker 3: which include recurring roles on The After Part, New Amsterdam
- 8:01Speaker 3: and The hand Maid's Tale.
- 8:04Speaker 1: Cassandra Sawtel plays Frankie. Cassandra has thirty two acting credits.
- 8:08Speaker 1: She's previously appeared in one Hallmark project, Tipline Mysteries Dial
- 8:12Speaker 1: One for Murder. Kelsey Moamma plays Lindsay, Sabrina's daughter. Kelsey
- 8:18Speaker 1: has twenty six acting credits and has appeared in one
- 8:21Speaker 1: previous Hallmark project sealed with a list. Her other acting
- 8:25Speaker 1: credits include Life with the Walter Boys, Totally Killer, The
- 8:29Speaker 1: Babysitters Club, and all three movies in the To All
- 8:34Speaker 1: the Boys I Have Loved Before series. Rukia Bernard plays Sabrina.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Rukiya has eighty three acting credits, which include her role
- 8:41Speaker 1: as Hannah in all four Christmas and Evergreen movies. She
- 8:44Speaker 1: also appeared in eleven episodes of Yellowjackets and what little
- 8:48Speaker 1: I know about that series makes me seriously concerned for
- 8:51Speaker 1: the fate of her character. After season two, episode one,
- 8:54Speaker 1: where she no longer appears.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I gotta tell you, I'm so happy to see her.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Me too. She hasn't been in a ton on Hallmark lately.
- 9:05Speaker 1: She's been working a lot, but not a lot on Hallmark.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break and we'll come right back
- 9:09Speaker 1: with more Chicken Sisters. All right. If you're a regular
- 9:21Speaker 1: verson of Girls on Homework, you know we have a
- 9:23Speaker 1: format that we use for our movie reviews, but we
- 9:26Speaker 1: switch it up a little bit when it comes to
- 9:28Speaker 1: our series reviews. We had a standing format for The
- 9:33Speaker 1: Way Home, and we're using a similar format here, diving
- 9:39Speaker 1: into some of the details of the show, our thoughts.
- 9:43Speaker 1: It's not a full minute by minute recap, but we
- 9:45Speaker 1: will recap some of the key events. So let's get
- 9:48Speaker 1: into it.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Go for it.
- 9:51Speaker 1: So this is the pilot episode of the series. There's
- 9:54Speaker 1: a lot of introductions happening here. Introduction of backstory, introduction
- 9:59Speaker 1: of characters. We really kind of run down the line.
- 10:03Speaker 1: So we start with, obviously the introduction of the Franny's
- 10:06Speaker 1: versus Mimi's feud, a baby daddy based feud, if you.
- 10:12Speaker 4: Will, And I wonder, I think the feud in the
- 10:19Speaker 4: book was different, but I wonder if we get.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Some resolution on that in the series, because it was
- 10:27Speaker 1: there was some contention over the truth behind the feud.
- 10:32Speaker 3: If the feud was based on the baby daddy situation,
- 10:35Speaker 3: that does this mean then these two families are more
- 10:40Speaker 3: interconnected than if they were just two rival families.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Well, that is addressed in the book, like oh okay,
- 10:48Speaker 1: They're like, we're gonna let that go. We meet a triarchs.
- 10:53Speaker 1: We have Nancy played by Leah Thompson. And I have
- 10:58Speaker 1: to say that in all of the promotion of the
- 11:00Speaker 1: show that I saw prior to reading the book and
- 11:03Speaker 1: knowing who the characters were, and as I was listening
- 11:05Speaker 1: to the book and starting piecing together who everybody was
- 11:07Speaker 1: in my mind, I was a little bit surprised to
- 11:10Speaker 1: find out that Nancy, while a main character to me,
- 11:15Speaker 1: is not the lead character in the show, but she
- 11:21Speaker 1: has been almost marketed as the center of the show.
- 11:24Speaker 1: Do you feel the same way in terms of marketing.
- 11:27Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I feel like they're like, we have Leah Thompson,
- 11:31Speaker 3: that's a big name Wendy Malick as well, but yes,
- 11:35Speaker 3: I feel like she's been marketed as this main character.
- 11:38Speaker 5: Well.
- 11:39Speaker 1: In speaking of Wendy Malick, I actually think based on
- 11:41Speaker 1: what I know about the book, based on how this
- 11:43Speaker 1: first episode played out, I mean, I think we're gonna
- 11:45Speaker 1: get more of a hefty storyline from Wendy Malix's character,
- 11:50Speaker 1: who of course does play Agusta slash Gus. She's Amanda
- 11:55Speaker 1: in May's mom. Also, she runs MEM's, the more down home,
- 12:00Speaker 1: basic of the two chicken restaurants. And we've got Amanda.
- 12:05Speaker 1: She's the sister who stayed but was also exiled from
- 12:09Speaker 1: Mimi's because she married the son of the rival chicken
- 12:14Speaker 1: restaurant owner. It's all very high stakes. Okay. We also
- 12:21Speaker 1: have May, the sister who wanted more. She hos the
- 12:24Speaker 1: home edit style show called Sparkling.
- 12:27Speaker 2: I have so many thoughts if you're going to read this,
- 12:29Speaker 2: but go ahead.
- 12:31Speaker 1: We meet Frank Junior, who's Amanda's husband, and I need
- 12:33Speaker 1: to point out here for listeners of the book, Frank
- 12:36Speaker 1: Junior is only mentioned in the past because Frank Junior
- 12:41Speaker 1: is not alive in the book. Oh. Interesting, and here's
- 12:46Speaker 1: a major divergence from the book to the series, because
- 12:50Speaker 1: Frank Junior is going to be a part of a
- 12:52Speaker 1: pretty big plot line. It seems to me that we'll
- 12:54Speaker 1: discuss in a little bit. Obviously that doesn't occur because
- 12:57Speaker 1: she is not married. She is a widow. Amanda a
- 13:00Speaker 1: widow in the book. Oh, I have some thoughts on that,
- 13:05Speaker 1: but let's we'll get into that in a minute. We
- 13:08Speaker 1: learn a few things about our characters. Of course, we
- 13:10Speaker 1: meet Frankie, who is Amanda's daughter, who's really great at
- 13:14Speaker 1: being a teenager. We meet Sergio, the cook at Meme's.
- 13:20Speaker 1: We learn Amanda and frank are potentially not all that
- 13:22Speaker 1: happily married. Frank Junior kind of sucks. We also learned
- 13:27Speaker 1: that May and Sabrina, the host of Kitchen Clash, some
- 13:32Speaker 1: what it's called. It's called something different in those US,
- 13:35Speaker 1: called food wars. In the book, by the way, they
- 13:38Speaker 1: have history, but we don't know what it is. So
- 13:40Speaker 1: they give us something to look forward to. And perhaps
- 13:44Speaker 1: the heaviest part, we learn that Gus is a hoarder
- 13:47Speaker 1: and that this has affected her children in different ways,
- 13:51Speaker 1: but probably had a stronger effect on May, the older
- 13:56Speaker 1: daughter who experiences panic attacks since her childhood.
- 14:01Speaker 2: Yes, can I give you some of my thoughts.
- 14:04Speaker 3: I thought that they did a really great job in
- 14:07Speaker 3: getting so much information into.
- 14:09Speaker 2: This pilot episode.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I mean, it's like forty three minutes, right, but they
- 14:15Speaker 3: packed it, and I thought it was great that they.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Used the narrator. Was there a narrator in the book?
- 14:21Speaker 1: No, it's told from the alternating perspectives of Amanda and
- 14:24Speaker 1: May in the book.
- 14:25Speaker 2: Oh.
- 14:26Speaker 3: Interesting, Well, I love that they use the narration because
- 14:29Speaker 3: it does help like enhance who the characters are, and
- 14:33Speaker 3: I think like gives more context, especially when us as
- 14:39Speaker 3: viewers are coming into a story that has like years
- 14:41Speaker 3: and years of history. Yeah, so I really like the
- 14:45Speaker 3: choice that they did that. But back to like you said,
- 14:49Speaker 3: in this pilot episode, we get so much. We get
- 14:51Speaker 3: the backstory of the feud between the restaurants. We get
- 14:54Speaker 3: how Amanda, I know, it's kind of stupid about how
- 14:57Speaker 3: she ends up working at Franny's, you know, falls in
- 15:00Speaker 3: love with.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Frank Junior.
- 15:04Speaker 3: We get that we have an understanding that Amanda feels
- 15:08Speaker 3: isolated and unfulfilled, in her life, which to me, I
- 15:14Speaker 3: was like, Oh.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Now we're going somewhere.
- 15:18Speaker 3: You just mentioned about how May has panic attacks and
- 15:23Speaker 3: is like dealing with childhood trauma from her mom's hoarding situation.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Like these are like topics not commonly seen on Hallmark,
- 15:34Speaker 3: and I really really like it. I feel like there's
- 15:39Speaker 3: a lot to unpack with the story of these two families,
- 15:43Speaker 3: and especially like Gus and the daughters and whatever. But
- 15:47Speaker 3: I feel like marketing wise, Hallmark was just like kind
- 15:50Speaker 3: of glossing over, like, oh, it's rivalry between these two
- 15:53Speaker 3: chicken restaurants, which interested in me. But now that I'm
- 15:58Speaker 3: into the first episodisode, I'm really into it.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It's definitely a character driven show.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Yeah, and I like it.
- 16:06Speaker 1: I like it.
- 16:07Speaker 2: I thought we might get sort of like how we've
- 16:11Speaker 2: seen in Hallmark movies.
- 16:12Speaker 3: We've seen like you know, rival bakers, Piemakers, whatever.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Like, Yeah, this is head and shoulders above any of that.
- 16:21Speaker 3: I absolutely agree. And we have been talking a lot
- 16:25Speaker 3: about quality versus quantity on Hallmark lately, and I feel
- 16:29Speaker 3: like this is a plus quality. This is on par
- 16:34Speaker 3: with The Way Home, different story, but on par.
- 16:38Speaker 1: With quality wise. Yeah, I'm right there. With you, let's
- 16:42Speaker 1: dive into our thoughts on some of the characters. Can
- 16:45Speaker 1: I tell you who stands out to me the most
- 16:47Speaker 1: watching this first episode in terms of spot on casting,
- 16:50Speaker 1: and it's Wendy Malick as Gus. I first of all,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I think, top to bottom the casting was really well done.
- 16:58Speaker 1: And I say this as a person who just read
- 17:00Speaker 1: the book, so I had visions of these characters in
- 17:05Speaker 1: my head and seeing them come to life on screen
- 17:08Speaker 1: in my mind, I'm like, that's exactly who it should be.
- 17:11Speaker 3: Now.
- 17:11Speaker 1: Of course, I knew the casting of this series before
- 17:15Speaker 1: reading the book, but I didn't know every single character,
- 17:18Speaker 1: and watching the way they bring these characters to life,
- 17:22Speaker 1: I think Wendy Malick, though, is running away with it.
- 17:27Speaker 1: I just love her as the hard to love Gus.
- 17:33Speaker 2: Yeah, very similar to Dale.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Yes not Dale Dale Odell. I write her name when
- 17:42Speaker 1: you said that, Yes, it is Dell. This character of Gus.
- 17:45Speaker 1: I'm afraid of her a little bit.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Wendy Malick plays this character so perfectly, intimidating with that nasty,
- 17:54Speaker 3: mean streak. But I'm into it, like I want to
- 17:58Speaker 3: know why is she so angry?
- 18:02Speaker 1: Well? And I think we know a little bit right,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and we know that she has a hoarding problem, and
- 18:06Speaker 1: so that probably I would imagine that something she carries
- 18:10Speaker 1: shame about. I would imagine that something she feels very
- 18:13Speaker 1: protective of. That's information that she doesn't want people to
- 18:16Speaker 1: know about, and so I think she for that reason
- 18:20Speaker 1: puts up a wall. They're also hinting at something else
- 18:24Speaker 1: going on with her that I suspect has something to
- 18:27Speaker 1: do with why she's challenging. But these do not seem
- 18:32Speaker 1: to be new developments with her. I mean, she you
- 18:35Speaker 1: see young May and young Amanda, and she's angry even
- 18:39Speaker 1: when they're children. So yes, what happened to make her
- 18:43Speaker 1: that way?
- 18:45Speaker 2: Now, going back to what you said, what hints are
- 18:48Speaker 2: they hinting at? What did I miss? I mean she
- 18:50Speaker 2: was fooling around with bad dude in the refrigerator.
- 18:52Speaker 1: But other than that, I don't think they were fooling around. Now,
- 18:56Speaker 1: maybe that's the image that they gave you, and of
- 19:00Speaker 1: course I have information from the book, but I did
- 19:03Speaker 1: not get the impression that they were getting freaky in
- 19:06Speaker 1: the oh.
- 19:07Speaker 3: I thought the impression they were fooling around and the
- 19:10Speaker 3: deep freeze, I will be wrong.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Interest is I actually think that guy has a husband
- 19:17Speaker 1: on the show. Oh, I don't think we've fully their characters.
- 19:22Speaker 1: But you know the guy that runs the coffee shop?
- 19:27Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 19:31Speaker 1: Yeah, boy from Ride Yeah, And just quick a little aside,
- 19:35Speaker 1: We did not run through every single character because there
- 19:37Speaker 1: are a lot of them. We will have additional news
- 19:39Speaker 1: and notes coming in future episodes for those who are completionists.
- 19:43Speaker 1: But I do believe I think that's his husband.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Interesting now, if I think about it, was he standing
- 19:54Speaker 3: behind the counter with him? The guy that was in
- 19:56Speaker 3: the deep freeze with Gus, Yeah, I thought I saw
- 19:59Speaker 3: him in the key shop.
- 20:01Speaker 2: He was you are I'll pay closer attention.
- 20:06Speaker 1: What other characters stood out to you?
- 20:07Speaker 2: Well, Amanda.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I really like when Homark gives us characters I have
- 20:13Speaker 3: a lot of depth and who are very relatable.
- 20:17Speaker 2: And I feel like.
- 20:19Speaker 3: Amanda is in this kind of transition in her life.
- 20:24Speaker 3: She's not super happy at home or her teenage daughter
- 20:29Speaker 3: is challenging. She misses the earlier ages.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Of her daughter.
- 20:37Speaker 3: She wants to know what's next, and I feel it's
- 20:39Speaker 3: very relatable. It's very interesting to me.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Another character that stood out to me is the character
- 20:43Speaker 1: of Frank Junior, and I just want to say he sucks.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Frank Junior does suck.
- 20:49Speaker 1: He sucks so much, he's so unlikable. Obviously, that's the point.
- 20:54Speaker 1: I want to bring it on home in our next segment.
- 20:57Speaker 1: But well done on the part of that act. Really
- 21:01Speaker 1: sending it through unthinking likeability is spawn.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree.
- 21:09Speaker 3: One more thought, Nancy, Frank Junior's mom, actually feel real
- 21:14Speaker 3: sad for her. I am rooting for a romantic storyline
- 21:17Speaker 3: for her. I just feel like, if this show is
- 21:20Speaker 3: going to have any sort of romantic storyline, who are
- 21:23Speaker 3: they going.
- 21:23Speaker 1: To give it to.
- 21:24Speaker 2: It has to be it has to be Nancy.
- 21:28Speaker 3: Well, I don't don't even say it. It is red
- 21:31Speaker 3: flag warning over here. It better not be between Amanda
- 21:35Speaker 3: and Sergio.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Can we move on to some additional thoughts we have?
- 21:39Speaker 2: Sure?
- 21:40Speaker 1: When I saw the way Sergio was looking at her,
- 21:43Speaker 1: now knowing from the book she is widowed, she is available.
- 21:49Speaker 1: She does have a love interest by a different name,
- 21:55Speaker 1: who perhaps plays the same role in the restaurant. So
- 22:00Speaker 1: when I see them have this intimate moment where he's
- 22:03Speaker 1: sharing food with her and watching her walk away, I'm like,
- 22:06Speaker 1: hold on, this woman is married with a child, happily married. No,
- 22:13Speaker 1: but she seems to still very much want to find
- 22:18Speaker 1: happiness with Frank Junior. While she maybe disillusioned with the
- 22:21Speaker 1: path of her life. I don't think she's one foot
- 22:24Speaker 1: out the door.
- 22:26Speaker 2: I think she's unhappy with the lot that she's been given.
- 22:29Speaker 3: But I yeah, I am all caps nervous about this
- 22:34Speaker 3: storyline me too, and I can understand her because they
- 22:39Speaker 3: set that scene up. She comes home with dinner and
- 22:42Speaker 3: he's like, is that what you brought home? And you
- 22:45Speaker 3: know she wants to have like sexy time with him,
- 22:47Speaker 3: and he's like, I'm going to bed or whatever, so
- 22:49Speaker 3: to be seen by another man, of course, Like yes, but.
- 22:55Speaker 1: If you're heads aren't being met at home, you're gonna
- 22:57Speaker 1: find someone who meets your needs. What are we doing here?
- 23:01Speaker 3: I mean, it happens in all kinds of entertainment, it
- 23:03Speaker 3: happens in real life, So like, am I gonna sit
- 23:07Speaker 3: here and grab my pearls?
- 23:07Speaker 2: Would be like, oh my.
- 23:08Speaker 1: God, they're gonna get together and she's married.
- 23:12Speaker 2: I don't know what they're gonna do.
- 23:13Speaker 3: I'm excited to see how it plays out, but I'm like,
- 23:16Speaker 3: I can't believe we're going down this road.
- 23:19Speaker 1: I don't know what they're gonna do either, and it
- 23:21Speaker 1: could just be a very nice way to add a
- 23:25Speaker 1: ton of conflict on screen with these characters. I'm really
- 23:31Speaker 1: excited about the introduction of the character Lindsay. This is
- 23:34Speaker 1: not a character that existed in the book. Lindsay is
- 23:37Speaker 1: Sabrina's daughter. This gives Frankie, Amanda's daughter a counterpart. Look,
- 23:42Speaker 1: if you're gonna turn a book into an eight episode series,
- 23:45Speaker 1: you're gonna have to flesh things out a little bit more.
- 23:48Speaker 1: And so I like the elevation of Frankie. I like
- 23:53Speaker 1: the introduction of Lindsay as an unlikely friend.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and especially like opposites too, now well, and not
- 24:02Speaker 3: total opposites, just opposites from like where they come from,
- 24:06Speaker 3: the opposite experiences. Yeah, I like that too. I mean
- 24:12Speaker 3: the gal that played Frankie, whoa. I was like, are
- 24:15Speaker 3: they living in my home?
- 24:16Speaker 2: Right now? You nailed it, nailed the teenagers totally.
- 24:22Speaker 1: Let's talk about your questions.
- 24:24Speaker 3: Okay, I'm curious in the book do they go into
- 24:28Speaker 3: depth about the childhood of May and Amanda.
- 24:35Speaker 1: And there is one kind of extended scene in the
- 24:38Speaker 1: book that sets up a little bit more of the
- 24:42Speaker 1: rivalry and why her mom was so protective of Meme's
- 24:49Speaker 1: it's unclear to me whether they're going to go that
- 24:52Speaker 1: route at this point. Interesting.
- 24:55Speaker 3: And then my other question is why do you think
- 24:59Speaker 3: they didn't make Amanda a widow in the show?
- 25:05Speaker 1: I think it makes it more interesting. There's more conflict there.
- 25:09Speaker 1: I think doing a nice job of setting herself up
- 25:12Speaker 1: as someone who's struggling with her place in life, and
- 25:15Speaker 1: I think that's going to include struggling with her marriage
- 25:19Speaker 1: and the state of it, either finding her way back
- 25:21Speaker 1: or finding her way out. I just think there's it
- 25:24Speaker 1: sets us up for some more choices.
- 25:26Speaker 3: Do you think this is going to be beyond eight episodes?
- 25:29Speaker 3: Will it come back for a season two?
- 25:32Speaker 1: Oh? You know, I do. I think the way that
- 25:35Speaker 1: the book ends again some divergence there, sets it up
- 25:41Speaker 1: for the ability to continue. Got it?
- 25:44Speaker 2: Got it?
- 25:45Speaker 3: Okay?
- 25:45Speaker 2: Those are my questions.
- 25:47Speaker 1: All right, let's talk some cluckworthy moments, some moments I loved.
- 25:51Speaker 3: There were some great one liners in this episode that
- 25:55Speaker 3: things I've never heard on Hallmark before ever.
- 25:59Speaker 2: If I may quote white.
- 26:01Speaker 3: Trash, never heard that at work before, ovulating, never heard
- 26:06Speaker 3: that on all before, wouldn't kick him out of bed,
- 26:10Speaker 3: never heard that before and two more pissed never heard
- 26:15Speaker 3: the word episode never, And finally the one that actually
- 26:21Speaker 3: made melol was when Amanda asks Nancy, is that a
- 26:26Speaker 3: push up bra you're wearing? I couldn't believe it, but
- 26:30Speaker 3: loved it, Like you, I have some great lines that
- 26:34Speaker 3: I loved.
- 26:34Speaker 1: The writing was spot on the line. When she's talking
- 26:38Speaker 1: about writing into kitchen class and they're like on TV,
- 26:40Speaker 1: she goes, it's technically streaming. Loved it.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Oh, yes, that was great.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Amanda talking about wanting a baby and frank Tiner's like,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I already gave you one, and she's like, but she's
- 26:52Speaker 1: only mean. Now a parent of a teenager right here,
- 26:55Speaker 1: I can fully relate. I loved her inner action with Frankie.
- 27:01Speaker 1: First she walks in and she like tries to see
- 27:02Speaker 1: what's on her computer. She's like it's weird, preferred stuff
- 27:05Speaker 1: as excellent. And then as Amanda leaves, she's like, whatever,
- 27:09Speaker 1: just do whatever you want, and Frankie's like, you should
- 27:10Speaker 1: write a parenting book.
- 27:12Speaker 2: Yes, so good.
- 27:14Speaker 1: When she's meeting with the execs from Sparkling and they're
- 27:17Speaker 1: talking about advertisers and they're like, you know, you kind
- 27:20Speaker 1: of have an anti stuff attitude, and we have advertisers
- 27:23Speaker 1: who sell stuff. I just love the cadence. And finally,
- 27:28Speaker 1: when Amanda is scrolling on her phone in bed and
- 27:31Speaker 1: she opens an ad and the music blairs from her phone,
- 27:35Speaker 1: among us has not done that as their partner is
- 27:38Speaker 1: asleep in bed and you shut it under the covers,
- 27:41Speaker 1: so good?
- 27:42Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, hey?
- 27:43Speaker 3: Did you also notice that she was actually looking at Instagram?
- 27:46Speaker 2: Yes?
- 27:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I like it. That wasn't some fake app that
- 27:50Speaker 3: she was looking at. Forgive the puns, but we like
- 27:54Speaker 3: to call it a character every single week who really
- 27:57Speaker 3: brings it. And it will be no surprise that my
- 28:00Speaker 3: feathered friend of the week is going to be Gus
- 28:03Speaker 3: slash Wendy Malick, who is bringing the drama in episode one?
- 28:08Speaker 1: Who is it for you?
- 28:08Speaker 2: I think it is God?
- 28:11Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Oh, I think it is Frankie played by Cassandra satl
- 28:17Speaker 2: I thought she played a perfect teenager.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Truly, I agree. I am was running through the bios
- 28:25Speaker 1: of these actors to prepare for this episode. And of
- 28:30Speaker 1: course we have the narrator Margot Martindale way of Lea Thompson,
- 28:34Speaker 1: we Wendy Malick. But beyond that the rest of our
- 28:37Speaker 1: supporting cast, uh not Rukia. Rukia is pretty solid, but
- 28:41Speaker 1: they're new ish, and I just am like, please let
- 28:44Speaker 1: this be such a vehicle for these actors because I
- 28:46Speaker 1: think they're all in such great roles. So my first
- 28:51Speaker 1: impression of this episode is gimme more.
- 28:55Speaker 3: I would say mine is people should subscribe to Hallwark
- 28:59Speaker 3: Plus for this alone.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I'm not being paid. I wish I was. I wish
- 29:03Speaker 2: we were being paid by Hallmark Plus promote them, but I.
