- 0:33Don Armstrong: Okay, please do that.
- 0:35Don Armstrong: So, and anyway, we are up here at the Tina Gilman.
- 0:39Don Armstrong: It's a three-dealership complex here just north of 1960.
- 0:43Don Armstrong: And we invite you to come out.
- 0:44Don Armstrong: It goes until two o'clock this afternoon.

- 1:04Don Armstrong: We always need more Jeff Zeke and Chief Engineer David Ainsley is with us.
- 1:08Don Armstrong: I'm Don Armstrong.
- 1:09Don Armstrong: Glad that you could join us today.
- 1:11Don Armstrong: You know, I'm still looking for that influencer in the pink car.
- 1:14Jeff Dziekan: Well, I saw that car go that way.
- 1:17Don Armstrong: Well, uh, that was a long time ago.
- 1:19Don Armstrong: Well, yeah.
- 1:19Don Armstrong: And she's parked down there.
- 1:21Don Armstrong: Um anyway.
- 1:22Jeff Dziekan: Um we see Marla we'll have her cor corraler.
- 1:26Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 1:28Don Armstrong: Um I wanted to do uh some recalls.
- 1:35Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 1:35Don Armstrong: One of them is tires.
- 1:37Don Armstrong: Uh-huh.
- 1:38Don Armstrong: KUMO.
- 1:39Don Armstrong: Yep.
- 1:39Don Armstrong: They're a pretty popular tire.
- 1:41Don Armstrong: I never thought that KUMO would ever be anything.
- 1:43SPEAKER_03: They've come along around, yeah, yeah.
- 1:45Don Armstrong: KUMO is recalling certain SOLAS TA11 tires, 22560R16, should be a pretty popular size.
- 1:53Don Armstrong: Uh the tire tread may separate.
- 1:55Jeff Dziekan: Oh, belt separating there.
- 1:56Don Armstrong: Uh-huh.
- 1:57Don Armstrong: As such, the tires failed to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard.
- 2:01Don Armstrong: DOT.
- 2:02Don Armstrong: Number 139.
- 2:03Don Armstrong: Oh.
- 2:04Don Armstrong: I wanted to be sure and put that in there.
- 2:06Don Armstrong: 139 is important.
- 2:07Don Armstrong: It is very important.
- 2:09Don Armstrong: So there's that.
- 2:12Don Armstrong: And then we have the regular recalls.
- 2:16Don Armstrong: And guess who's in it?
- 2:17Don Armstrong: Does it start with an F?
- 2:19Don Armstrong: Well, it's not Ferrari, is it?
- 2:22Don Armstrong: Uh no, it's not Ferrari.
- 2:24Don Armstrong: So let's start with the F.
- 2:26Don Armstrong: Ferrari.
- 2:26Don Armstrong: Ford Escape Explorer Aviator Corsair 2020 to 2022.
- 2:30Don Armstrong: The windshield wipers may fail.
- 2:32Don Armstrong: Oh man.
- 2:34Don Armstrong: Um Ford E 350, 450, 2627.
- 2:39Don Armstrong: Backup alarm sound failure.
- 2:40Don Armstrong: Is it the the E?
- 2:42Don Armstrong: Is it Machy?
- 2:45Don Armstrong: 40.
- 2:46Don Armstrong: Uh drive shaft may separate on the Ford F 250 and 350 SD super huge.
- 2:53Don Armstrong: 25 for 26.
- 2:54Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 2:54Don Armstrong: You hate to have that drive shaft separate when you're doing about 70 down the highway.
- 2:59Jeff Dziekan: Or you're in the 350 and you had a horse trailer.
- 3:01Jeff Dziekan: Or that on a fifth wheel.
- 3:03Jeff Dziekan: Uh-huh.
- 3:03Jeff Dziekan: Or Caroline.
- 3:09Don Armstrong: Yes.
- 3:09Don Armstrong: Martha.
- 3:11Don Armstrong: Uh how about the high voltage battery?
- 3:14Don Armstrong: Is there's a fire risk in the Volvo EX30.
- 3:17Don Armstrong: Oh wow.
- 3:18Don Armstrong: For 2025.
- 3:20Jeff Dziekan: Is that an E?
- 3:22Jeff Dziekan: Is that electric EX30?
- 3:23Don Armstrong: I don't have any clue.
- 3:25Don Armstrong: I I'm not familiar with the Volvo lineup, and I will readily admit that.
- 3:29Don Armstrong: I know I'm supposed to be I'm supposed to be knowledgeable about all things automotive, but I'm not.
- 3:34Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 3:34Don Armstrong: That's one I'm not.
- 3:35Don Armstrong: That was just a question.
- 3:36Don Armstrong: We don't get any Volvos, unfortunately.
- 3:38Don Armstrong: Volvos are good cars.
- 3:39Don Armstrong: Uh continuing with the Ford legacy.
- 3:41Don Armstrong: Ford Navigator for 2026, it's got a problem, it's being recalled.
- 3:46Don Armstrong: Uh incorrectly displayed rear view camera image in the Ford Escape Explorer, Aviator, and Corsair, 2020 to 2022.
- 3:53Don Armstrong: Rear view camera image may not display in the Bronco in the edge, 21 to 26, 21 to 24.
- 4:01Don Armstrong: Tire sidewall damage.
- 4:03Don Armstrong: I guess it went down the wrong assembly line.
- 4:06Don Armstrong: Uh-oh.
- 4:07Don Armstrong: Which wasn't a good thing, and they damaged the tires.
- 4:09Don Armstrong: I'm not exactly sure.
- 4:10Don Armstrong: Chevrolet Express and Savannah, they don't do they still make those?
- 4:14Don Armstrong: 25 to 26 mile years, they must.
- 4:17Jeff Dziekan: Chevrolet Express.
- 4:18Don Armstrong: That's the van.
- 4:19Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 4:20Jeff Dziekan: Yeah, we believe that the GMC Savannah.
- 4:23Jeff Dziekan: The GMC Savannah is the is the passenger van.
- 4:25Don Armstrong: Whatever.
- 4:26Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 4:26Don Armstrong: It's a van.
- 4:28Don Armstrong: And let's not forget Chevrolet Silverado 3500 and the GMC 3500 2526.
- 4:34Don Armstrong: Engine stall due to disabled rear fuel pump.
- 4:39Don Armstrong: Well, so those are the recalls this week.
- 4:41Don Armstrong: Remember, safercar.gov.
- 4:44Don Armstrong: And um that will allow you to put in your VIN number in the little box and you can check to see if your car is going to be recalled or is recalled.
- 4:57Don Armstrong: Okay?
- 4:57Don Armstrong: We're going to save our uh hemmings, name the co used car price, sold car price.
- 5:05Don Armstrong: How come?
- 5:06Don Armstrong: Well, because uh we've got another uh two hours to get that in.
- 5:11Don Armstrong: Yeah, absolutely.
- 5:11Don Armstrong: I don't want to have some guests lying out.
- 5:13Don Armstrong: I don't want to blow everything right out of the box.
- 5:15Jeff Dziekan: No, no, don't do that.
- 5:17Don Armstrong: We've got a lot of people standing by over there.
- 5:19Jeff Dziekan: And I think they're waiting for my autograph or something.
- 5:21Don Armstrong: Well, actually, they're they're waiting for Marlett to put put these people in the queue.
- 5:25Don Armstrong: That that chair right down there.
- 5:26Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:27Don Armstrong: Sit right down there and then put on that headset.
- 5:31Don Armstrong: We normally don't do it this way, but we're having to do it this way because uh because I don't have anybody feeding me names and titles and that sort of stuff.
- 5:42Don Armstrong: And um it's nice to meet you.
- 5:44Don Armstrong: What's your name?
- 5:44Don Armstrong: Oh, IK is my name.
- 5:46Don Armstrong: IK.
- 5:46Don Armstrong: Yes, sir.
- 5:47Don Armstrong: IKEA.
- 5:48Don Armstrong: I bet that's not your real name.
- 5:50SPEAKER_00: It's not, no.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Uh I have a few of them.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: A few of them.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: I'll probably take the next 30 minutes and then.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: No, well you look like a Robert.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Are you a Robert?
- 5:58unknown: Really?
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: He looks like a Robert.
- 6:00Jeff Dziekan: He looks like a Robert.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: I've never gotten that, but you know, I'll take it.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: I can I'll take it.
- 6:06Don Armstrong: Could you see it being a part, apparently some sort of cardinal?
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: I am.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: I I am.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: I, you know, probably not as as uh intense as some of the guys out here.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: I mean, you look at these bills, these guys.
- 6:16Don Armstrong: Are these your people here?
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: Everyone here, I thought.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Everyone here, to be honest.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: I I I represent Houston.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: So uh and what a club, uh a shop, uh So I'm I'm here on behalf of uh a company my wife and I started, uh Apex Garage.
- 6:31Don Armstrong: Apex Garage, okay.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: We're a DIY garage.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Uh I won't say the first of its kind, really, in Houston, where we provide a space in car enthusiasts, uh, mobile mechanics, shade tree mechanics, anyone really, even anyone from down the street can come uh could come by and uh get some work done.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Do you have lifts there?
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: We have lifts, we have tools, we have repair guides, we have a mechanic on standby to walk you through repairs if you get stuck.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: And uh that's cool.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:59Don Armstrong: You know, it's funny uh you say that because gosh, this had to have been.
- 7:04Don Armstrong: I'm dating myself, okay?
- 7:06Don Armstrong: So just tell me, shut up, Don.
- 7:07Don Armstrong: You're old, we all know that.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: No, not at all.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
- 7:10Don Armstrong: So this is back in the 70s, okay?
- 7:13Don Armstrong: I know.
- 7:14Don Armstrong: Like I said, ancient stuff.
- 7:15Don Armstrong: I did it too.
- 7:16Don Armstrong: So there was a shell station at the corner of Bel Air Boulevard in 59, the Southwest Freeway, right there in front of Sharpstown.
- 7:24SPEAKER_06: Uh-huh.
- 7:24Don Armstrong: And um the guy sold lots of gas, but he had no mechanic work coming in.
- 7:30Don Armstrong: So what he did was he turned his garage that uh was a part of the dealership, he turned it into a do-it-yourself thing.
- 7:38Don Armstrong: So you go in there and rent the space.
- 7:40Don Armstrong: And if you needed tools, they had tools that you could rent or a lift.
- 7:45Don Armstrong: You have lifts?
- 7:46Don Armstrong: Yep.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Got lifts?
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we have two post lifts.
- 7:48Don Armstrong: And uh so you could rent the space.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 7:51Don Armstrong: I found myself down there a lot because I liked it.
- 7:54Don Armstrong: Right.
- 7:54Don Armstrong: I was working on my car and I had a question or something.
- 7:57Don Armstrong: There was always somebody in there that said, hey man, uh, do you know anything?
- 8:00Don Armstrong: Yeah, let me take a look.
- 8:02Don Armstrong: Oh, yeah, that, this, that.
- 8:03SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 8:04Don Armstrong: And it was fun.
- 8:05Don Armstrong: It was a it was a garage club, is basically what it turned out to be.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: That's that's what we're going for.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: That's crazy that even as far back as the 70s, that was already a concept.
- 8:14Don Armstrong: Because his garage he had a big garage.
- 8:16Don Armstrong: He must have had six, eight stalls.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Oh, there you go.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 8:20Jeff Dziekan: Have you ever seen the movie Christine?
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, the car that drives itself, right?
- 8:24Jeff Dziekan: Yep.
- 8:25Jeff Dziekan: The concept of that, Christine, the garage was just what you said.
- 8:29Jeff Dziekan: Yeah.
- 8:29Jeff Dziekan: Where Christine went back to the garage and got it was a shop where the old man owned that he didn't like the kid, but he had all these other clients.
- 8:37Jeff Dziekan: It was more of a money laundering thing than anything, but that's the premise of it was the movie Christine.
- 8:42Jeff Dziekan: I think another garage.
- 8:44SPEAKER_00: So we're located in Spring.
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Uh we found a nice 6,000 square foot facility off of uh the 99 and gosling, probably about a minute from that intersection.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Um the woodlands.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: You hear gosling, you think the woodlands, but it's more it's spring, and we try to place it there to kind of cater to North Houston as far as as well as uh probably central Houston.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: It's probably a good 30-minute drive from central Houston, but it's still accessible for the guys in Conroe, guys in Willis.
- 9:10Don Armstrong: So it's kind of like a car club meetup at the garage.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: It is, and that's the thing, right?
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: It it's to try to to provide to give some give it's our attempt at connecting, even further connecting the automotive community, right?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: Because like look kind of like you said, working on your car is cool by itself.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Working on your car alongside fellow enthusiasts is amazing.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: I know, it is.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: You get stuck, you just walk next door.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: Hey, can you come check this out for me?
- 9:38Don Armstrong: It's one of those things that most car people don't understand because they've never experienced it.
- 9:43Don Armstrong: Right.
- 9:44Don Armstrong: And uh if you experience it a couple of times, you go, yeah, right.
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: I never I never want to get under a car by myself again.
- 9:50Don Armstrong: Yeah, can't hey, can I can I rent the space for about an hour uh you know next Saturday or whatever the case may be?
- 9:56Don Armstrong: Right.
- 9:56Don Armstrong: Because I want to change my own and do a couple things on it.
- 9:58Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so it's yeah, it's it's an overall space.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: We have right now we have five bays all um stocked with lifts and tools.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: On the other side of the building, we have a sim racing um lounge, which it's a new concept, but it's pretty simple.
- 10:11Don Armstrong: Back in our day, there'd be slot car racing.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: It would be, yeah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_00: It'd be a uh shut up, Don.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: It'd be a keg and a couch.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right.
- 10:21Don Armstrong: Um what a keg and a couch.
- 10:22Don Armstrong: Keg in a couch.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: And then eventually you will launch memberships too for the guys that that really uh dedicate time towards uh towards the automotive stuff, right?
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: There's a lot of mobile mechanics.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: Well, here's the deal.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: What's change?
- 10:35Don Armstrong: There's so many apartment buildings now.
- 10:37Don Armstrong: So what are you doing?
- 10:39Don Armstrong: So I can't go over to Mars house because his garage is full of crap.
- 10:44Don Armstrong: Not a car, it hasn't seen the car in the garage.
- 10:49Don Armstrong: The wife's on one side of the garage, he's on the other side, so you can't go to Judge's garage.
- 10:54Don Armstrong: So there you go.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: I just bought a new truck, it's been sitting outside since I bought it.
- 10:58SPEAKER_00: The wife took up half of it, and we have a whole bunch of stuff on the other half.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I think my HOA would would would find me to the high if I even attempted something in my driveway.
- 11:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 11:08SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: So yeah, it's that's exactly.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: So I mean, uh ultimately, you know, automotive repair costs are rising um at a pretty rapid rate.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: Um can't, I think the average cost for mechanic repair these days, just labor uh costs about$120,$150 an hour.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Uh new cars are getting expensive, so people are keeping their older cars longer, but then the older the car gets, the more repairs it needs.
- 11:31SPEAKER_00: Um so the need for it is there.
- 11:33SPEAKER_00: Um and it's it's something that's that that that's come up all the time.
- 11:37SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's so much of an issue, it's getting memed about.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Now, you know something so pressing when people start making memes about it, right?
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: I saw a meme the other day.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: It was a guy driving, and uh he was the price of brakes was so expensive, so I have to resort to this.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: And in the video, he had uh a lasso while he was driving, and he threw it around a pole to stop the car down because the brakes went out.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: I was like, man, I I really hope he doesn't get to this.
- 12:03Don Armstrong: Well, my mind goes to let's say, for instance, a Subaru Club.
- 12:06Don Armstrong: Uh-huh.
- 12:07Don Armstrong: You know, WRX guys, and you know, we're all cool and all that stuff, uh-huh.
- 12:11Don Armstrong: But we all live in different apartment complexes.
- 12:13Don Armstrong: So we really don't have a place to go.
- 12:15Don Armstrong: One of the guys doesn't have a garage.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 12:17Don Armstrong: And so three or four of us go over, we'll help him work on his car at your at your facility.
- 12:23Don Armstrong: Exactly.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Maybe for the day, go over there and take it out.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: You could take turns too.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: So we have hourly rates, we have daily rates.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: We're working on a weekly rate as well, just for long-term builds.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: Sure.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: But no, something like that.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: And that's that's exactly right, right?
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: You you work in the in the vicinity of others, you get to collaborate on stuff.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: Eventually, we're launching memberships as well to even accentuate that that concept even further.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: That way, you even if you don't, you might not need to work on your car, you might just need a space to come and plan your next build.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Um, in our case, we're huge racing enthusiasts, Formula One, IndyCar, NASCAR.
- 12:55SPEAKER_00: Um, come watch a race, right?
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: We'll have watch we'll have uh watch parties for races.
- 13:01SPEAKER_00: Eventually for members too, we'll have track days, right?
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Because I mean, what's how it's not much fun just building a car and not never getting to test it out.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: So eventually you build, build, build, and then we figure we'll take the members to the track track.
- 13:14Don Armstrong: So most of the guys uh do they go to uh road course tracks or do they go to drag strips or both?
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: But the good thing about Houston is you have options.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Um we'll probably rotate through uh through between road courses and and drag strips and even the Sam Houston race park down there.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: Um and eventually, the blessing, you know, the blessing would be in Texas is uh we have Coda up north in Austin, where not that far.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: It's not that far, right?
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: So eventually maybe get the members together, um, we'll go see a race live, a Formula One race, so or a NASCAR.
- 13:46SPEAKER_01: Maybe work up a deal on tickets with them, say our group sports to come up here.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Maybe get a nice little booth, a nice little section, and it'd be a great time.
- 13:54Don Armstrong: Well, I'm thinking more along the lines of a suite with uh you know some cocktails being served and that sort of thing.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: That would be nice.
- 14:03Don Armstrong: See, I'm just I'm just giving you a little nudge there with the idea.
- 14:08Jeff Dziekan: Those little tiny wieners with a toothpick and the little meatballs, those are great.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's all you need.
- 14:13SPEAKER_00: That's all you need.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, those are not set.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: But yeah, just it's we're we're trying to give back.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: But right now, we're set up here at this car meet, it's a good time.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: We're loving the weather, it's great, people are great.
- 14:22SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Uh we have some mobile sim racing um setups, so just get people comfortable with that video.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: In front of the Mazda or the In front of uh the accurate accurate, the far end.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: Yes, sir.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: Um so we're setting up where we're about a month out from opening, so building's coming up, it's coming, it's happening pretty quickly.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: Um we're excited.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: So we're just building awareness, getting to know Houston.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: We already know Houston, but you can never know Houston too much, right?
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Uh to get to know the guys hanging out.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Um it's a good time.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: We it's a beautiful, like I said, beautiful day, beautiful day it is great day.
- 14:53SPEAKER_00: Especially after all the rain we've been getting.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: It's yeah, it's refreshing to finally try and have the sun out again.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: But yeah, yeah, we're excited.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Good deal.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Well, thanks, Robert.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: I'll take it now.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: I'm not answering nothing else for Robert today.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: So how do you have a web?
- 15:09Don Armstrong: How do we get a hold of you?
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Oh, uh, so you can find us right now at www.apexgarage.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: There's a bit of nuance to that.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: It's APE-xgarage.
- 15:20Don Armstrong: Oh, APE-x.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: For the linguist.
- 15:26Jeff Dziekan: Not an underscore a hyphen.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Right, right, right.
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: Yeah, hyphen xgarage.com.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: Uh we have our landing page up to get you familiar with who we are and what we do.
- 15:36SPEAKER_00: There's also a countdown timer there, so you can follow up uh with with the our opening, and there's a link to us uh.
- 15:43Don Armstrong: Wait a minute, you're not open yet?
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: We're not.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: We're not open yet.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: This we are about a month out from opening.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: April 11th is our opening day.
- 15:50Jeff Dziekan: Well, you're gonna need more shirts and you need to contact me.
- 15:53Don Armstrong: And not only that, but you also need to have a remote broadcast from the in-mill time crib.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Oh no, we can do that.
- 15:59SPEAKER_00: We we can absolutely do that.
- 16:01SPEAKER_00: But uh no, we're excited.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're also having one of these where it's a smaller, on a smaller scale, but we're looking to have a JDM car meet for our opening ceremony to get the car guys together.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Um we're a bit partial to the JDM community ourselves.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: So we'll rotate, we'll rotate.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: Wait just a minute.
- 16:17SPEAKER_03: So, what what do you have?
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: You know, I feel like an imposter.
- 16:23SPEAKER_00: I feel like an imposter saying this.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: I did just trade a BMW uh M3 for a truck because I am in that phase now.
- 16:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you did say that.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Are you serious?
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: What is your wife driving?
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: She has a Lexus.
- 16:37SPEAKER_03: Everybody's making funny.
- 16:38SPEAKER_03: You did what?
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: I know, dude.
- 16:41SPEAKER_03: You you you you've gone against the grain.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: I know, I know, and I feel so bad, but it's it's that phase.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: I'll get it back.
- 16:47SPEAKER_00: Uh I'll get I'll probably get something better.
- 16:49Jeff Dziekan: But the truck you bought's a Mitsubishi.
- 16:52SPEAKER_00: No, I'm saying that'd be nice.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: That'd be nice though.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: I got a GMC.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: Right hand drive.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: That'd be right.
- 16:59Don Armstrong: Now the GMC hasn't been recalled, has it?
- 17:01Don Armstrong: No, 6.2 in it?
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: 6.2, yeah.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Oh god.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: Fingers crossed, everything I hop in, I say right now.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: Well, they said they fixed it for 2026.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: I shouldn't have to be able to do that.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: That's what they said.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Before you push the starter button, it's the call.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: We got a deal for you.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Come on down.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: We'll see.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: So I'll I'm I'm in that now.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: It hopefully it's not long.
- 17:29SPEAKER_00: I'm able to get back to you.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Did you drive that up here?
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: I did.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: It's parked all the way in the back.
- 17:33Don Armstrong: I was gonna say, because you had to park in the back.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: I had to.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: I couldn't take the spotlight from these guys.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: Well, I got here late, so I parked right here instead of going all the way to the guy.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: It blends in anyway.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: No one noticed.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: If they didn't say nothing, you don't say nothing.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Hi, Kay.
- 17:46Don Armstrong: It's great to talk to you.
- 17:47Don Armstrong: It's been a pleasure to be here.
- 17:48Don Armstrong: Thank you.

- 20:14Don Armstrong: Y'all, do y'all ever uh y'all take road trips?
- 20:19Don Armstrong: I'm sorry, say again?
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we go to Woodlands and uh No, no, no, no.
- 20:23Don Armstrong: I'm talking about Beaumont right now.
- 20:25Don Armstrong: Beautiful downtown Beaumont.
- 20:27Don Armstrong: We don't even have any gas stations between here and Beaumont, too.
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: One in Whitney?
- 20:31unknown: Yeah.
- 20:31Don Armstrong: Winnie, he would know.
- 20:32Don Armstrong: You got the TP motel in Wharton.
- 20:34Don Armstrong: The only way that's not.
- 20:36Don Armstrong: So our next guest is Jose.
- 20:39Don Armstrong: Uh he is the WRX STI guy.
- 20:43Don Armstrong: He's a guy.
- 20:44Don Armstrong: So what year is your car?
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: My so I have two of them.
- 20:48SPEAKER_02: Of course you do.
- 20:49Don Armstrong: You can't have one.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: The first one I've built is uh 2003 Bug Eye.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Oh wait a minute.
- 20:56Don Armstrong: So what's a bug eye sprite?
- 20:57Don Armstrong: No.
- 20:58SPEAKER_02: Bug eye what?
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: Bug eye wrx STI.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: It's called the Bug Eye.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: That's what it's called, yeah.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: It's a different bug eye that I'm thinking of.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: But so they have three generations.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: So they got the bug eye, blah blah and the hawkeye.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: So the bug eye is the first one that they brought here in the US as a WRX.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: 2003.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: You drive the cockeye.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: I drive the cockeye.
- 21:17Don Armstrong: It's not a WRX though.
- 21:19Don Armstrong: It's a DA.
- 21:20Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:21Don Armstrong: Um, so Jose, I have to tell you, it had to have been the first generation.
- 21:28Don Armstrong: This was probably somewhere around 2000.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: Yes, sir.
- 21:33Don Armstrong: Is that would that be the first generation?
- 21:35SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 2000 was the first generation, but in Japan.
- 21:39SPEAKER_02: Over here, they brought it in 2002.
- 21:41Don Armstrong: Okay, so that's what it was.
- 21:42Don Armstrong: I had a 2002.
- 21:44Don Armstrong: Um it was a Press Fleet car, and it was a WRX STI with the six speed manual transmission.
- 21:53Don Armstrong: Oh my god, I fell in love with that car.
- 21:57Don Armstrong: That car was bad to the I mean, he'd go around corners forever and ever.
- 22:04Don Armstrong: But the thing was fast.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:07Don Armstrong: Don't tell anybody, but I had that thing up to 120.
- 22:10Don Armstrong: And it still had plenty of throttle left in it.
- 22:13Don Armstrong: Shut up, Mars.
- 22:14Don Armstrong: Don't look at me like that.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: No.
- 22:16SPEAKER_02: That's the only way you know.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: That's the only way.
- 22:19SPEAKER_01: That's the way you know that you got a fire.
- 22:22SPEAKER_01: See, I I do things like that for research.
- 22:24Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 22:25Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 22:26Don Armstrong: And he's also a great liar.
- 22:28Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 22:29Don Armstrong: There's no research in that.
- 22:31Don Armstrong: It was, it was, I love the car, I really did.
- 22:34Don Armstrong: And then one thing that a lot of people don't realize is that is a full-time all-wheel drive car.
- 22:38SPEAKER_06: Full-time.
- 22:39Don Armstrong: And you never, ever, ever heard of the car being recalled.
- 22:45Don Armstrong: They did the job right on those WRXs.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:49Don Armstrong: And the I don't know about the new WRX.
- 22:52Don Armstrong: Have you driven one of those?
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: I haven't.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: I've only been in them, but I feel like the car is too big for me.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it is.
- 22:59Don Armstrong: They grew the car and it's not an STI.
- 23:01Don Armstrong: It's not a pumped-up bad to the bone car.
- 23:03Don Armstrong: Yeah, exactly.
- 23:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:05Don Armstrong: I'm I guess that they probably have plans for that somewhere down the road.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: Probably they do, yeah.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:10Don Armstrong: The technology is.
- 23:11Don Armstrong: Because I you don't look like a forester guy.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: I like I like my sewers to be the older the better.
- 23:19SPEAKER_02: I also have a 97.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: And that one, that one is a two-door, it's one of the rare ones.
- 23:24Don Armstrong: Is it is it a flat six or a four?
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: No, that one is a full WRX.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: I did the swap myself.
- 23:30Don Armstrong: So it's a it's a it's a flat six.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: It's a flat four right now.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: Flat four.
- 23:34Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 23:35Don Armstrong: Correct.
- 23:35Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 23:36Don Armstrong: So good.
- 23:37Don Armstrong: Well, let's I want that I want the pants that girls got on it.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: Checker flags.
- 23:41Don Armstrong: Checker flags.
- 23:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, checker flags, yeah, yeah.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Just put it in front of them.
- 23:44Don Armstrong: Yeah, exactly.
- 23:46Don Armstrong: So um what are their aftermarket hot rod parts for those Subaru's?
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: So the Vaughan was my first build.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: I bought that car back in 2017.
- 23:58SPEAKER_02: Completely stopped.
- 24:00SPEAKER_02: And then, like you said, I fell in love with the way it driven and everything.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: But I didn't know what to do.
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Like, I was like, what do I how do I modify it?
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: Like, what wheels, what route should I go?
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: I used to be on the guy.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: I wanted something different.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: So then I started looking on Google and this WRC car popped out with all the stickers, the rally sounds and everything.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: I'm like, I wonder if I can build that.
- 24:22SPEAKER_02: Then I started doing my research.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: It took me a year to finally complete like the whole body kit.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Then it took me another year to get the WRC uh livery rally stickers because they don't sell none of that stuff here.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: But everything's from uh UK.
- 24:36Don Armstrong: Did you did you do anything to the did you do anything to the engine?
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: The engine it is it is uh uh uh let me see it's a 2001 STI.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: They call it EJ207, it's fully forged.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: That that motor is built for 700 horsepower.
- 24:52Jeff Dziekan: Wow.
- 24:53SPEAKER_02: But right now it's on 400 to the wheels on E85.
- 24:56SPEAKER_02: It's got a big yeah, it's got a big turbo, rotated turbo, it's got uh flex fuel, I can use ray, I can use gas or e85, I can use both, I can blend it.
- 25:06SPEAKER_02: It's got anti-labas.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: You have control over that?
- 25:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, I love it.
- 25:10SPEAKER_02: Over the over the gas.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you can either you can it does it by itself.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: Oh, it does it by itself.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's say half half tank of gas, and then I want to put E85, I just put it in and it does it by itself.
- 25:21SPEAKER_02: I adjust the content on the ethanol.
- 25:24SPEAKER_02: Really, I can read it on my phone.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: It's computer control.
- 25:26SPEAKER_02: Yes, I can read it on my phone, I can see how much content it has.
- 25:29SPEAKER_02: And it does it all through your computer program.
- 25:31SPEAKER_01: Yes, yeah.
- 25:32SPEAKER_01: So it's it's monitoring the mix, the quality of the gasoline, basically.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Well, the mix.
- 25:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the octane level and all the yeah.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's monitoring the octane level as soon as I put E85.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: Like this morning, I put I pull out my phone, I connect it, and I can see the percentage 70% is really good content.
- 25:51SPEAKER_02: So the car is feels fast and lighter.
- 25:53Don Armstrong: Yeah, uh it's sucking down gas like like like no tomorrow.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Actually, yes, the E85 goes faster than regular gas.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Because I do I do cycles, like I do three tanks of E85, and then I want to clean it up with regular gas.
- 26:10SPEAKER_02: Because E85 creates some kind of a mixture between the the sucking tubes and all their vacuums, so gasoline will clean that up.
- 26:18Don Armstrong: Yeah, interesting.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: We used to go out to the airport to get some ash on a Friday night or Saturday night, whatever we were doing.
- 26:25SPEAKER_01: He just he pulls it up on the air.
- 26:27Don Armstrong: You try to do that now, you'll get shot.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: That's a problem, yeah.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: He just does it on his phone.
- 26:32Don Armstrong: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:33Don Armstrong: Nice.
- 26:34Don Armstrong: So, how much do how much does that computer program for that thing that you've got with the E850?
- 26:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so the the software that I got, the problem that I have is called Delicious Tuning.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: Delicious tuning.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: It's a small computer.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Don't tell anybody about it.
- 26:56SPEAKER_02: No, no, and it's got sensors.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: You got the sensor, you just hook it up and hook it into the fuel line.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the fuel line has to go through it so it'll read the sensor, yes.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: Right, right.
- 27:06SPEAKER_02: And then um the tuner has to tune, make two tunes, one for natural or just uh 95 octane, 93 octane, I mean, and then the other tune is for E85, so you got two different tunes.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: But the computer, that little brain, uh adjusts everything.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: How did you learn about that?
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: Man, I did my research before because because I I'm not gonna lie, I did blew up one engine before that.
- 27:31Don Armstrong: Like a kid on TV, but you did yours on the on the internet.
- 27:35SPEAKER_02: Uh yes, yes, yes, exactly.
- 27:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, sick.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:39SPEAKER_02: But uh, and I asked my tuner, this is a Rally car, so I want all the aspects from a Rally car.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: So it does have anti-lag, all the pops and bangs.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's got uh two-step and launch control, it's got everything.
- 27:51SPEAKER_02: The only thing is that transmission still has five speeds, so there's transmission.
- 27:56SPEAKER_02: Uh it's not the best.
- 27:57Don Armstrong: Uh so that's the next that's the next step.
- 28:00Don Armstrong: The six speed to go.
- 28:01Don Armstrong: So, how much is the six speed?
- 28:02Don Armstrong: You buy the six speed used?
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Yes, yeah.
- 28:05Don Armstrong: You gotta buy it used.
- 28:06SPEAKER_02: Because I have to get uh an all four or all five transmission because since my car is old, that one is just a plug and plate.
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: You put it on, everything works.
- 28:14Don Armstrong: Nice, yeah, yeah.
- 28:16Don Armstrong: Golly, yeah.
- 28:17Don Armstrong: I want to be you.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: So I got a lot of followers on Instagram, and a lot of the followers say, I want to be your neighbor, you're a cool neighbor, because I pull both of my cars out.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:27SPEAKER_02: And I'm just cleaning or start them or check something out, and I'm like, I hope my neighbors don't mind the noise.
- 28:33SPEAKER_02: And they're like, no, you're good.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: Where do you uh how do we find you?
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: Oh, so my Instagram is 03 Texas underscore WRC.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: 03 Texas.
- 28:46Don Armstrong: 03 underscore WRC.
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, 03 Texas.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Oh, Texas.
- 28:51Don Armstrong: Okay.
- 28:51SPEAKER_02: Underscore WRC.
- 28:53Don Armstrong: Underscore WRC, okay.
- 28:55Don Armstrong: Yeah.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: 03 Texas.
- 28:57Don Armstrong: Stay in touch with us.
- 28:58Don Armstrong: Correct, correct.
- 28:59Don Armstrong: Yeah, sure, for sure.
- 29:00Don Armstrong: So uh what part of town do you live in?
- 29:01SPEAKER_02: I live on Stafford, uh, so I'm like 40 minutes from here.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:05SPEAKER_02: No, I know.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: I live in Richmond.
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: I'm in Sugarland.
- 29:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:09SPEAKER_02: Down the street from you, yes.
