Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Teenage years for a lot of us, are filled with
- 0:08Speaker 1: angst and rebellion. Thankfully, it's usually a stage of our
- 0:12Speaker 1: life that we grow out of as we begin to
- 0:14Speaker 1: take a closer look at our future. For sixteen year
- 0:18Speaker 1: old Adrian Reynolds, that was the exact stage of life
- 0:21Speaker 1: that she was in. She was working on bettering herself
- 0:24Speaker 1: and her future. That is, until her future was taken
- 0:29Speaker 1: away by someone whose idea of bettering their own life
- 0:34Speaker 1: meant taking someone else's. My name's Ben and I'm Nicole.
- 0:39Speaker 2: And you're listening to Wicked and Grim, a true crime podcast.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Warning the following podcasts and material in for a mature audience.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Listener discretion is advised. Okay, that was smooth. How I
- 1:14Speaker 1: did that?
- 1:15Speaker 2: Yeah, and I didn't get the memo. I also have
- 1:18Speaker 2: one that was not smooth.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Keep it going, Keep going there, you go. Wow, your
- 1:24Speaker 1: delicate fingers.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm pouring an over ice because it's warm we have Okay,
- 1:29Speaker 2: Can I just say something? Can I just well, this
- 1:31Speaker 2: isn't really a show though, This is just me talking
- 1:33Speaker 2: about alcohol. Okay, but we are brewery, which I'm sure
- 1:37Speaker 2: we've talked about. One of our breweries, Trench, they have a.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Peach iced tea.
- 1:42Speaker 2: That is literally so good next level. So if you're local,
- 1:48Speaker 2: like fucking go buy a case.
- 1:50Speaker 1: They probably already know about it if they're local, because
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure our entire city is obsessed with oh.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Just obsessed like it. It puts some twisted teata like shame.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Oh wholeheartedly, whole hard.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Not that anything's wrong with twisted tea. We do drink
- 2:04Speaker 2: that as well, but this is just like, wow.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's fantastic. I'm kind of jealous. I mean,
- 2:10Speaker 1: I have a trench beer, but I'm kind of jealous
- 2:12Speaker 1: that I'm not drinking the iced tea.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So it is very dangerous though, because it literally is
- 2:18Speaker 2: like I'm just drinking a peach iced tea, like non alcoholic.
- 2:21Speaker 1: Yeah, it's very peachy too, but like not too sweet either,
- 2:23Speaker 1: So it's really cool.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, that's awesome.
- 2:26Speaker 1: While we're recording this episode, we are in the middle
- 2:29Speaker 1: of a thunderstorm right now. The rain has currently ceased,
- 2:34Speaker 1: but being in a tiny home with a tin roof,
- 2:36Speaker 1: there is a high chance and a high probability that
- 2:39Speaker 1: you're gonna hear some rain pick up during this episode.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Yeah, right now might just be a good time, but
- 2:45Speaker 2: I have a feeling it could come back. It might,
- 2:47Speaker 2: but it is also very good that we're getting rain.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Yes, tackle those wildfires a little bit. Yeah, so this
- 2:55Speaker 1: is a good thing. Let's just hope that lightning and
- 2:57Speaker 1: thunder fuck off just a little bit.
- 2:59Speaker 2: Yes, can stay well for the next few days. I
- 3:03Speaker 2: have photo shoots that I needed to stop for soon.
- 3:05Speaker 1: Do you know what else can stay? What are fantastic patrons? Yes,
- 3:09Speaker 1: we had Victoria Bond be our only patrons sign up
- 3:12Speaker 1: last week. She joined the big list of patrons getting
- 3:16Speaker 1: all that awesome exclusive content. So thank you Victoria for
- 3:19Speaker 1: joining us over there.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the awesome exclusive content right now is chickens pretty
- 3:24Speaker 2: much just chickens, just kidding. We post a lot of
- 3:27Speaker 2: stuff on there, but right now it's our chickens are
- 3:30Speaker 2: kind of all consuming, so.
- 3:31Speaker 1: They are all consuming, but they're finally getting settled in
- 3:35Speaker 1: the coops. All built, almost all built, The run's all done,
- 3:38Speaker 1: and it's it's kind of like just moving on with
- 3:40Speaker 1: life now with chickens. Yeah, you're gonna overfill that.
- 3:44Speaker 2: No, that was I like, that was epic.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Yeah, you can't pick it up now, you got to?
- 3:48Speaker 1: Oh I could, Okay, Okay, are you gonna spill? Don't
- 3:52Speaker 1: don't do it. Don't do it. Oh that was so close.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Well done though, there we go. She almost just spilt
- 3:57Speaker 1: all over her laugh I was confidence is key.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Okay, So what do you got in store for us today?
- 4:04Speaker 2: I haven't even asked you what you've been working on.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Well, this is a requested case that I pulled off
- 4:08Speaker 1: our discord server. This is the case of Adrian lay Reynolds.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Nice, Okay, I have no idea what this is about.
- 4:17Speaker 1: Well, you're about to find all about it. Find out
- 4:20Speaker 1: all about it. There you go. That that sentence made sentence.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I swear a lot of sense.
- 4:24Speaker 1: That sentence was a lot of nonsense. But it's about
- 4:28Speaker 1: to make sense. How's that?
- 4:30Speaker 2: Okay, there you go.
- 4:32Speaker 1: You kind of recovered, kind of recovered. But I'll deal
- 4:36Speaker 1: with that now. I'll take it. Thank you. Okay, So
- 4:39Speaker 1: you ready for it?
- 4:40Speaker 2: I am ready for it.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah, okay. Well. Adrian lay Reynolds was born on September
- 4:45Speaker 1: twelfth in nineteen eighty eight. She was born to a
- 4:48Speaker 1: single mother in El Dorado, Arkansas. Now, unfortunately, her mother
- 4:53Speaker 1: was not in a position to keep a child, so
- 4:57Speaker 1: she was put up for adoption. Okay, so she was
- 5:01Speaker 1: adopted by a man named Tony Reynolds. So, as Adrian
- 5:05Speaker 1: entered her teenage years, her father would eventually remarry and
- 5:08Speaker 1: move to East Moloyne, Illinois, while she continued to live
- 5:12Speaker 1: with her mother in Texas. So as I kind of
- 5:15Speaker 1: eluded with the whole angsty rebellion teenage phase and the
- 5:18Speaker 1: intro education became a bit of a struggle for Adrian.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Now I can relate to that because that was kind
- 5:24Speaker 1: of me and my teenage years. Education was not my forte.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I did not want to study, did not want to
- 5:29Speaker 1: hunt her down do my things. There was other things
- 5:31Speaker 1: that way rather be doing. And so by the age
- 5:34Speaker 1: of her being sixteen, she was kind of not doing
- 5:37Speaker 1: so well. She actually didn't earn a single high school
- 5:40Speaker 1: credit towards her diploma, so rather than focusing on her study,
- 5:44Speaker 1: she would find solace and hanging out with friends, smoking weed,
- 5:48Speaker 1: harboring a deep dislike for school pretty much just all around.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I think that's a pretty common probably argument in households
- 5:57Speaker 2: with teenagers.
- 5:58Speaker 1: Hey what exactly, Well.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Just trying to get kids to like focus on their schooling.
- 6:03Speaker 2: But yeah, it's kind of it's an interesting age, really,
- 6:06Speaker 2: because there's so many other things you could be doing
- 6:08Speaker 2: and you don't really necessarily see the importance of like
- 6:13Speaker 2: high school at that moment.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Yet, and nowadays there's so many distractions, video game, cell phones,
- 6:17Speaker 1: social media, you name it. This worrisome situation, though, led
- 6:22Speaker 1: her mother, who she was living with at the time,
- 6:24Speaker 1: to believe that a change was necessary to help Adrian
- 6:27Speaker 1: find a better path in life and kind of better herself. Right,
- 6:31Speaker 1: So the decision was made to send her to live
- 6:33Speaker 1: with her adoptive father and stepmother, which was Tony who
- 6:37Speaker 1: of course was the original individual to adopt her, and
- 6:40Speaker 1: Joan Reynolds in Illinois. So despite not being this perfect angel,
- 6:46Speaker 1: not being the perfect student in school, Adrian's presence was
- 6:51Speaker 1: cherished by her father and stepmother, who saw her as
- 6:54Speaker 1: a spirited and vibrant young woman. Beyond her tough exterior,
- 6:58Speaker 1: she was known for her sweetness, her care for others,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and she had a remarkable talent as.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Singing Okay, that's really cool.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Which I'm super jealous of. I love to sing, but
- 7:08Speaker 1: I'm horrible at it.
- 7:10Speaker 2: That is one thing I think if you could change
- 7:12Speaker 2: about yourself, it would be to have that talent Hey.
- 7:15Speaker 1: Yes, I would love to be able to sing, But you.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Can't be good at everything, Ben, I know, I know,
- 7:19Speaker 2: I'm not angry. You're pretty much good at everything else.
- 7:21Speaker 2: That's like one thing.
- 7:22Speaker 1: I don't know if I would say that, but thank you.
- 7:24Speaker 1: I appreciate it. So Adrian's dream, of course, was to
- 7:28Speaker 1: become a singer, but the pursuit of such aspirations often
- 7:32Speaker 1: seems out of reach for many people, especially at that age.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Like singing or being a musician or whatever is generally
- 7:40Speaker 1: like the top of stardom. There's so much competition out there,
- 7:43Speaker 1: sort of thing, right, So, in the fall of two
- 7:46Speaker 1: thousand and five, Adrian embarked on a new journey by
- 7:48Speaker 1: enrolling in the Blackhawks College Outreach program with the goal
- 7:53Speaker 1: of obtaining her ged So this achievement would serve as
- 7:57Speaker 1: a stepping stone towards fulfilling her ultimate des desire of
- 8:00Speaker 1: joining the United States Marine Corps. Okay, so this was
- 8:05Speaker 1: kind of her new goal. Instead, she kind of realized
- 8:07Speaker 1: that the chances of becoming a singer were relatively slim.
- 8:10Speaker 1: I'm not going to sit here and say you should
- 8:12Speaker 1: never follow your dreams, but I kind of understand what
- 8:14Speaker 1: she's saying, you know, so, yeah, this was kind of
- 8:17Speaker 1: her next best thing. I'm going to go finish off
- 8:20Speaker 1: my education and I'm going to join the Marines. Okay,
- 8:23Speaker 1: good for her, Yeah, definitely. So she settled in Illinois
- 8:27Speaker 1: with her father, like I said, and Adrian was determined
- 8:30Speaker 1: to turn her life around and strive for a brighter
- 8:33Speaker 1: and better future for herself. This was just a new
- 8:36Speaker 1: chapter in her life for a fresh start. She was
- 8:39Speaker 1: determined to build this meaningful future. Her dedication to joining
- 8:43Speaker 1: the Marines after graduation was fueled by her determination to
- 8:46Speaker 1: excel now at her studies. As she attended college, Adrian
- 8:51Speaker 1: finally experienced true friendship when she began attending here. So
- 8:57Speaker 1: she was not only just beginning to find friendship, but
- 9:00Speaker 1: she was beginning to find that she was relatively popular,
- 9:03Speaker 1: something that she had yearned for but never really found. So,
- 9:06Speaker 1: alongside her other qualities, Adrian proudly identified as a devoted
- 9:10Speaker 1: quote juggalo. Do you know what that is?
- 9:13Speaker 2: Oh? My goodness, I've definitely heard of that term, but
- 9:16Speaker 2: I can't recall.
- 9:17Speaker 1: So a juggalo is someone who is a passionate follower
- 9:20Speaker 1: of the rap group insane clown posse. Oh, shit.
- 9:24Speaker 2: Okay, no, I have no ight, I've never heard that.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Then I was thinking someone else.
- 9:29Speaker 1: You're probably thinking jigalow, which is a male sex worker. Yes,
- 9:32Speaker 1: it was a term for it.
- 9:33Speaker 2: Yes, yes, okay, So juggalo.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Juggalo is basically a follower of this rap group insane
- 9:38Speaker 1: clown Posse. Oh okay, yeah, so I actually I used
- 9:41Speaker 1: to listen to some of their tunes back in the day.
- 9:43Speaker 1: I was never a Juggalo, mind you, but some of
- 9:45Speaker 1: their tunes are actually pretty pretty entertaining. They're usually very
- 9:48Speaker 1: dark and morbid and contained murder and that sort of stuff,
- 9:51Speaker 1: but also like very circus like, and they're very clown ish.
- 9:54Speaker 1: They got like clown makeup on black and white paint
- 9:57Speaker 1: and all this sort of stuff. So she was a
- 9:59Speaker 1: jugg a very devout follower of this fan of this group.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Is that like a self devoted term?
- 10:08Speaker 1: Yes, okay. Well, the band, I think, calls their fans
- 10:12Speaker 1: their Juggalos and take on that, so then.
- 10:15Speaker 2: You kind of decide, like you're that that hardcore of
- 10:18Speaker 2: a fan, you're going to adopt that name exactly.
- 10:22Speaker 1: So during her time at this alternative college, Adrian cross
- 10:26Speaker 1: paths with two fellow classmates Sarah and Colb and Corey
- 10:31Speaker 1: Gregory in two thousand and five. So, although Sarah and
- 10:35Speaker 1: Corey shared a close bond, their relationship was platonic, despite
- 10:39Speaker 1: a history between them, which I'll touch on a little
- 10:41Speaker 1: bit later. As a fellow Juggalo, Corey immediately connected with
- 10:47Speaker 1: Adrian and he introduced her to Sarah, who was also
- 10:51Speaker 1: a Juggalo. Okay, so they quickly became absolutely best friends.
- 10:56Speaker 1: The trio spent a lot of time together, both within
- 10:58Speaker 1: school premises and off school premises in their own spare time.
- 11:03Speaker 2: Was this can I just ask one very side not
- 11:05Speaker 2: quick question, Yes, was this band like really popular?
- 11:10Speaker 3: Yes?
- 11:11Speaker 1: Relatively speaking?
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, I just think this is I mean, that's
- 11:15Speaker 2: a great marketing strategy to like basically have people devote
- 11:19Speaker 2: themselves to the name. I just I don't think I've
- 11:22Speaker 2: ever heard of them. I maybe have to listen to
- 11:24Speaker 2: a song and I would recall.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Yeah, probably not. They were never like on the radio
- 11:27Speaker 1: or anything. They were a very niche band, but they
- 11:30Speaker 1: were relatively quite well known, okay, Like I think Eminem
- 11:33Speaker 1: even had like a beef with them and stuff like this,
- 11:35Speaker 1: like like yeah, they were up there, Okay, but I
- 11:38Speaker 1: do want to say this, the fact that they're like
- 11:41Speaker 1: clown and murderous and all this sort of stuff, they
- 11:43Speaker 1: actually do like a lot for their community. They donate
- 11:46Speaker 1: a lot of money, and they actually have like really
- 11:47Speaker 1: good intentions. They're really good people.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Yeah, it's really good.
- 11:50Speaker 1: It is. It's a little fun fact if anyone needed
- 11:52Speaker 1: to know that about the insane clown posse. They're actually
- 11:55Speaker 1: really good people. Good So Sarah Coleb was one of
- 11:59Speaker 1: the friends that she met, and Sarah was born on
- 12:01Speaker 1: April twenty third, nineteen eighty eight. Sarah was a very
- 12:05Speaker 1: popular girl with a unique style, sporting black streaks in
- 12:08Speaker 1: her hair, multiple face piercings, and a punky goth appearance
- 12:11Speaker 1: to go along with her her Juggalo identity. So, like Adrian,
- 12:18Speaker 1: Sarah faced challenges in school, which eventually had led her
- 12:21Speaker 1: to the Outreach Center.
- 12:23Speaker 2: So.
- 12:23Speaker 1: On the other hand, Corey Gregory was born on November two,
- 12:27Speaker 1: nineteen eighty seven. He was described as a shy and
- 12:30Speaker 1: soft spoken individual. He found solace in being his true
- 12:34Speaker 1: self around Sarah, and though they were once romantically involved,
- 12:38Speaker 1: that aspect of the relationship had now ended. Sarah had
- 12:42Speaker 1: a new boyfriend now and it was evident to Corey
- 12:45Speaker 1: that they were just friends at this point. So despite
- 12:49Speaker 1: this change, Corey and Sarah remained inseparable, often skipping class
- 12:53Speaker 1: to enjoy music, share moments while smoking weed together, you know,
- 12:56Speaker 1: just going off having fun, being really good, tight friends.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Okay, that's impressive, because I feel like that would be
- 13:02Speaker 2: a bit hard to do after you were like romantically involved.
- 13:05Speaker 1: You know, I think so too. But I think there's
- 13:08Speaker 1: a certain dynamic between them, which I don't get into
- 13:11Speaker 1: a whole lot. I do touch on it a little
- 13:13Speaker 1: bit here, but I might as well talk about it now. Corey,
- 13:17Speaker 1: I think, as far as this case goes, he still
- 13:21Speaker 1: was very interested in Sarah, so he was hoping for
- 13:24Speaker 1: something to spark up again, right, I mean, they were
- 13:26Speaker 1: still good friends, but he also wanted more, right, Okay,
- 13:29Speaker 1: And as I kind of already mentioned, Sarah was quite popular,
- 13:33Speaker 1: so she really liked the attention. So it was kind
- 13:36Speaker 1: of a dynamic where they're friends, but hey, he wants
- 13:39Speaker 1: her and she likes the fact that he still wants her.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Oh that's really tough, yeah for him mostly.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Yeah, definitely. Yeah, So the dynamic between those two did
- 13:50Speaker 1: take a little bit of a new turn when Adrian would,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you know, come into the group is kind of like
- 13:55Speaker 1: a new fresh energy in their lives sort of thing,
- 13:59Speaker 1: and Sarah's a tension actually would shift from Corey giving
- 14:04Speaker 1: her all this attention because he kind of wants her
- 14:07Speaker 1: to now Adrian, which kind of triggered a little bit
- 14:10Speaker 1: of like a bit of jealousy between some of them.
- 14:13Speaker 1: But anyways, Sarah was unapologetic about her feelings because she
- 14:18Speaker 1: wanted to pursue a romantic connection with Adrian. So the
- 14:22Speaker 1: two kind of did have a little bit of a
- 14:24Speaker 1: candid exchange in letters discussing Sarah's bisexuality and Adrian's curiosities
- 14:30Speaker 1: about her own bisexual identity. So despite the potential and
- 14:35Speaker 1: apparent romantic involvement between two, they did not ever become
- 14:38Speaker 1: an official couple, as Sarah still did actually have a boyfriend.
- 14:43Speaker 1: She was in a relationship Okay, So meanwhile, Adrian would
- 14:49Speaker 1: begin dating other boys as well, but her growing closeness
- 14:53Speaker 1: with Sarah led to a shift in the dynamics that
- 14:56Speaker 1: Sarah found rather unsettling. Sarah was quite accustomed to being
- 15:02Speaker 1: the center of attention, as I kind of already alluded
- 15:04Speaker 1: to with Corey.
- 15:05Speaker 2: But she likes that. Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so she was adorned by good looking boys and
- 15:10Speaker 1: you know, now she noticed some of them were showing
- 15:12Speaker 1: the interest in Adrian instead. Uh oh yeah, so that
- 15:17Speaker 1: kind of put this whole like jealousy mix back and
- 15:20Speaker 1: forth in there again.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yikes. Yeah, I'm like that can't be good.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Yeah. So it's kind of this quasi love triangle esque
- 15:28Speaker 1: thing that's going on because Corey wants Sarah. Sarah used
- 15:34Speaker 1: to date Corey, and Sarah likes the attention from Corey,
- 15:37Speaker 1: and Sarah and Adrian kind of like each other. But
- 15:40Speaker 1: Sarah's got a boyfriend, and so Adrian's now dating other people,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and Sarah is not liking the attention that Adrian is getting.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Okay, I actually followed that, I'm a little impressed with myself.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Well it gets even one step to shit, okay, because
- 15:57Speaker 1: Sarah's anger and jealousy began to intensify in unexpected turnative
- 16:00Speaker 1: events when Adrian even asked Corey out on a date.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Oh okay, yeah, okay.
- 16:09Speaker 1: So here we go. Yeah exactly, it's a full circle. Now.
- 16:13Speaker 1: Corey had been devoted to Sarah, following her around basically
- 16:16Speaker 1: like a puppy dog, putting around a pedestal, making you know,
- 16:21Speaker 1: her everything feel good and all that sort of thing. Yeah,
- 16:24Speaker 1: and this situation basically brought everything to a breaking point,
- 16:29Speaker 1: leading to a heated argument between Sarah and Adrian. Sarah's
- 16:33Speaker 1: feelings of hatred towards Adrian grew intensified with each passing day,
- 16:37Speaker 1: and You're resorted to making many dirogatory comments about her promiscuity,
- 16:43Speaker 1: I will say around the school.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Oh geez, So she just couldn't handle this.
- 16:48Speaker 1: She could not. Now, there was a report of them
- 16:51Speaker 1: having an argument and kind of you know, fixing things
- 16:55Speaker 1: up a little bit here, and they were friends again,
- 16:57Speaker 1: but one way or another they would end up having
- 17:00Speaker 1: a rather severe argument and getting to that point again
- 17:04Speaker 1: where they're not friends anymore.
- 17:08Speaker 2: And I'm sure it would like even after some sort
- 17:10Speaker 2: of argument, it probably wouldn't have been the same.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Right, So No, I don't think so. I think it
- 17:15Speaker 1: was like an initial argument, they kind of patched things up,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but they were still rather on edge, and then yeah,
- 17:20Speaker 1: the argument just kind of intensified and it happened again
- 17:23Speaker 1: sort of thing. And I mean Adrian did have like
- 17:25Speaker 1: some desperate attempts to kind of like mend their friendship
- 17:28Speaker 1: and reconcile. She really did want to be friends with
- 17:30Speaker 1: Sarah and Corey, right, this was a new thing. She
- 17:33Speaker 1: didn't really have many friends before, so this is a
- 17:35Speaker 1: whole new experience for her, right, and she really actually
- 17:37Speaker 1: cherished these friendships. So she was really trying to reconcile
- 17:41Speaker 1: and make sure everything was okay. But at this point,
- 17:46Speaker 1: Sarah remained rather furious and was determined to make Adriane's
- 17:49Speaker 1: life quite miserable.
- 17:51Speaker 2: At this point, Wow, so like really not a true friend.
- 17:54Speaker 1: No, not aug of it.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I think they probably would have been true friends if
- 18:00Speaker 1: Sarah was still the number one popular then the hottest,
- 18:03Speaker 1: like you know that sort of yeah, mean girl's status.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Yeah, but I just I don't love that, no at all.
- 18:11Speaker 1: Neither do I. Sarah would actually even claim to have
- 18:15Speaker 1: written in her journal about her intentions to kill Adrian.
- 18:21Speaker 2: Wow.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Yeah, she would have conversations with some classmates, but her
- 18:25Speaker 1: friends and classmates just kind of brushed this off as
- 18:28Speaker 1: a joke. Ah yeah, not really realizing the gravity of
- 18:32Speaker 1: the situation or her emotions.
- 18:34Speaker 2: I guess, Oh my gosh. And that's so often that
- 18:37Speaker 2: people just kind of like brush it off. I feel
- 18:40Speaker 2: like us on the other hand, I think everyone's like, oh,
- 18:42Speaker 2: to murder me, so I just run around trying to
- 18:45Speaker 2: avoid me.
- 18:46Speaker 1: That's true. But I'm sitting here thinking of an angsty
- 18:48Speaker 1: teenager listening to murderous rap music all the time. I
- 18:52Speaker 1: can see that being off the cuff kind of conversation.
- 18:56Speaker 1: For example, if you look at a teenage boy playing
- 18:58Speaker 1: Call of Duty on his freak in PlayStation or Xbox
- 19:02Speaker 1: or computer whatever, he's telling people, got to fucking kill you,
- 19:05Speaker 1: like all the time. Yeah, it's not usually something that
- 19:09Speaker 1: you say with any weight behind it, I suppose, and
- 19:12Speaker 1: I do honestly think that, And this might be something
- 19:18Speaker 1: that people don't agree with. I do think that Sarah
- 19:20Speaker 1: wrote that in her journal without any weight behind I
- 19:24Speaker 1: don't think she had any intention of killing.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Her Okay, so well, yeah, you have a lot of
- 19:29Speaker 2: emotions when you're a teenager, and you don't really quite
- 19:32Speaker 2: grasp what to the extent things mean necessarily, right exactly?
- 19:38Speaker 2: So yeah, okay, so.
- 19:40Speaker 1: It would be. On January twenty first, two thousand and five,
- 19:43Speaker 1: Adrian received an invitation from Sarah and Corey to have
- 19:46Speaker 1: lunch and discuss their friendship. Whether they're going to patch
- 19:49Speaker 1: things up or or what. They're like, Hey, let's go
- 19:52Speaker 1: for lunch. Let's sort some things out, right.
- 19:54Speaker 2: And at this point, is Corey and Sarah still like friends?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yeah? They they tight, okay, so willing to resolve any issues.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Adrian accepted the offer and joined them in Sarah's car,
- 20:07Speaker 1: which Corey was driving. So Corey drove to the nearby
- 20:11Speaker 1: Taco Bell and during the ride, of course, the conversations began, right,
- 20:16Speaker 1: you know, the topics of the friendship. You know, you
- 20:18Speaker 1: did this to anger me or whatever. With that sort
- 20:22Speaker 1: of conversation, you know, tempers usually rise and tensions flare, right,
- 20:27Speaker 1: And that's exactly what happened. During the drive, tension was
- 20:32Speaker 1: rising between both Sarah and Adrian, which led to quite
- 20:36Speaker 1: a heated argument. So upon arrival at their destination of
- 20:40Speaker 1: the Taco Bell, the situation had escalated even further and
- 20:44Speaker 1: the argument turned into a physical altercation in the backseat
- 20:47Speaker 1: of the car, which was quickly spiraling out of control.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Ohly shit.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Sarah and Adrian were now in a full out, violent fistfight.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Punches were being thrown, and it was increasing in intensity.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Corey had parked the car and he was trying to intervene,
- 21:07Speaker 1: but his intervention was a little different. He, being so
- 21:14Speaker 1: devout to Sarah, wanted to support Sarah, so he restrained Adrian.
- 21:21Speaker 1: He held her down.
- 21:22Speaker 2: What the fuck? Seriously? Yes, Oh my gosh. For some reason,
- 21:27Speaker 2: I wasn't expecting that at all. I was thinking he
- 21:30Speaker 2: was going to like help break them up.
- 21:31Speaker 1: No, he held Adrian down. Oh, and Sarah then reached
- 21:37Speaker 1: for and grabbed a All I could really find a
- 21:40Speaker 1: description was this was a wooden implement she had for
- 21:43Speaker 1: protection in her car. I'm assuming this is somewhat of
- 21:47Speaker 1: like a small baseball batter or a fish bunker or
- 21:51Speaker 1: a club of some sort. And she began using this
- 21:54Speaker 1: wooden implement to strike Adrian repeatedly.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Who yeah, yeah, Like I'm I feel like all like
- 22:02Speaker 2: hot and bothered here right now. That's brutal.
- 22:05Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, and he's just pinning her down and let
- 22:08Speaker 1: what happened?
- 22:09Speaker 2: I can let you go on a little bit. But
- 22:11Speaker 2: I also have this feeling that this lunch idea wasn't
- 22:15Speaker 2: necessarily a reconciliation per se.
- 22:20Speaker 1: I don't know, if I think about it, Why would
- 22:24Speaker 1: they have driven to a taco bell in the middle
- 22:27Speaker 1: of day lunchtime. This is a very populated area. If
- 22:31Speaker 1: they had other intentions, I don't think they would have
- 22:35Speaker 1: gone here. Okay, at least if they didn't have intentions,
- 22:39Speaker 1: I don't think it would have been here and now.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I guess so. So.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Adriaan was now being pinned down as another person was
- 22:48Speaker 1: assaulting her. It's terrible, but that's exactly what she was
- 22:51Speaker 1: going through. She was overpowered and she stood no chance. Sarah,
- 22:56Speaker 1: after beating her with the wooden implement, then resorted to
- 23:00Speaker 1: using her own belt in the altercation. She wrapped the
- 23:03Speaker 1: belt around Adrian's neck and began to strangle her. Slowly.
- 23:08Speaker 1: As she tightened the belts around her neck, she watched
- 23:10Speaker 1: the life fade from Adrian's eyes until finally it led
- 23:15Speaker 1: to her tragic death in the back seat of that car. Whoa,
- 23:21Speaker 1: she strangled her to death?
- 23:24Speaker 2: Holy shit? Yeah wow, I am actually like sweating right
- 23:30Speaker 2: now because for some reason, this is making me very uncomfortable.
- 23:33Speaker 1: This one pisses me off on a few different ways.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Yeah, like, it's it seems just so unfucking necessary.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Oh yeah, all over a popularity contest.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Yeah, like, it's almost hard to just fathom.
- 23:48Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, wow, I can't believe that they actually went
- 23:54Speaker 3: to the point where they killed her, Like I don't
- 23:59Speaker 3: I don't know why, but I was not fucking expecting that.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Well, And one detail I do want to talk about
- 24:04Speaker 1: here is that this whole fatal occurrence did occur midday
- 24:09Speaker 1: in a busy fast food establishment parking lot, yet there
- 24:12Speaker 1: was no one who saw anything. What how Hell, here's
- 24:19Speaker 1: the thing. This was January twenty first, right, Any witness
- 24:23Speaker 1: present in this Taco Bell parking lot that day could
- 24:27Speaker 1: not provide a clear account of the events due to
- 24:29Speaker 1: the car windows fogging up from the winter air, obscuring
- 24:33Speaker 1: the view of the interior.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Yep, Okay, well guess that makes sense.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Yeah, us living up in the north, anyone who lives
- 24:41Speaker 1: in colder temperatures, you understand the winter, those windows with
- 24:44Speaker 1: a cold outside and your breath or warm inside, it
- 24:48Speaker 1: fogs up fast.
- 24:50Speaker 2: And honestly, like in that situation, I feel like anyone
- 24:53Speaker 2: would kind of they'd see it. They wouldn't necessarily try
- 24:57Speaker 2: to look because you would probably think that there's like
- 25:00Speaker 2: teenagers having sex in there or something.
- 25:02Speaker 1: That's exactly what it was. Yeah, some people did see
- 25:05Speaker 1: that something was happening in this car, and they literally
- 25:08Speaker 1: like dismissed it as teenagers fooling around in some aspects,
- 25:13Speaker 1: shape or form, whether it's rough housing or sex or
- 25:15Speaker 1: who knows what.
- 25:16Speaker 2: Right, Yeah, Like, I don't think they would have gone
- 25:18Speaker 2: to a place where they thought that they were murdering
- 25:22Speaker 2: no one in there.
- 25:23Speaker 1: No, I've seen some suspicious behavior in vehicles before, and
- 25:26Speaker 1: usually I'm like, someone's having some fun. I'm not usually
- 25:30Speaker 1: jumping towards someone's dying.
- 25:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:32Speaker 1: So yeah, I can't blame any pedestrian for not intervening
- 25:37Speaker 1: by any means.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:40Speaker 1: So later prosecutors would never actually really know the full
- 25:44Speaker 1: story of what happened inside this car because there's no witnesses.
- 25:47Speaker 1: All they could really do was take accounts of people
- 25:50Speaker 1: inside the car, and they would eventually a little bit
- 25:55Speaker 1: of a spoiler alert, but they would eventually learn details
- 25:58Speaker 1: from individuals in the car, and they are trusting that yes,
- 26:02Speaker 1: it was a wooden implement and it belt as I described. Okay, Okay,
- 26:07Speaker 1: So that is the official story on record, regardless of
- 26:12Speaker 1: the exact details though, whether it was on record or
- 26:15Speaker 1: what actually happened to what people thought they saw or
- 26:17Speaker 1: didn't see. Both Sarah and Corey were now responsible for
- 26:22Speaker 1: Adrian Reynolds brutal beating and strangulation leading to a tragic situation,
- 26:30Speaker 1: and they now had her body on their hands, so
- 26:35Speaker 1: they did decided to get the vehicle started and they
- 26:37Speaker 1: drove a little ways away from the Taco bell to
- 26:40Speaker 1: a more private area to discuss what they needed to do.
- 26:44Speaker 1: From there, they stuffed Adrian's body into the trunk of
- 26:46Speaker 1: the car and they decided they need to dispose of
- 26:49Speaker 1: her by taking her to a farm that was owned
- 26:52Speaker 1: by Sarah's grandparents.
- 26:53Speaker 2: Oh that's like so smart, right, Yeah, Like, honestly, that's
- 26:57Speaker 2: so logical. I can't fucking believe.
- 26:59Speaker 1: It makes so much Everything they do here makes so
- 27:01Speaker 1: much sense. Trust me, you're gonna get more pissed. I
- 27:04Speaker 1: guarantee it. So, while they're driving out to Sarah's family farm,
- 27:09Speaker 1: Adrian's family was now growing concern about her whereabouts. It
- 27:12Speaker 1: was a little later in the day by now, and
- 27:14Speaker 1: Adrian hadn't turned up for her shift at work and
- 27:17Speaker 1: they had no idea where she was, so her family
- 27:22Speaker 1: reported her missing and police began searching for any sign
- 27:26Speaker 1: of her, unfortunately to no avail. So as hours turned
- 27:31Speaker 1: into days and a couple days were going by the
- 27:34Speaker 1: search continued and numerous flyers were being passed out around town,
- 27:38Speaker 1: posted across the city on light poles, telephone poles, on
- 27:42Speaker 1: business windows, you name it, anywhere, mailboxes. No one, not
- 27:48Speaker 1: even Adriane's school friends, recalled seeing her on the day
- 27:52Speaker 1: she disappeared. However, a few days later, an anonymous tip
- 27:58Speaker 1: led authorities to the Talk Go Bell parking lot where
- 28:01Speaker 1: Adrian was supposedly spotted.
- 28:05Speaker 2: Okay, so someone did see her.
- 28:07Speaker 1: Someone did see her. So the investigation quickly honed in
- 28:12Speaker 1: on Sarah and Corey, the last two people who were
- 28:17Speaker 1: seen with Adrian. Police brought them in for questioning, and
- 28:22Speaker 1: initially they both maintained their innocence. They never spoke about
- 28:26Speaker 1: the incident in the car. They're just like, yeah, no, no,
- 28:29Speaker 1: we didn't do shit. Yeah we saw her, we were
- 28:30Speaker 1: with her, but no, we didn't do anything.
- 28:32Speaker 2: I have a feeling though, that you would have been
- 28:35Speaker 2: able to like read them like a book kind of thing.
- 28:38Speaker 1: Probably, yeah, especially like younger kids are not generally the
- 28:43Speaker 1: best at hiding emotions, are lying.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and did they actually talk every little detail through
- 28:51Speaker 2: about if they got caught, what they're going to say
- 28:53Speaker 2: and stuff, you know.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Oh, they didn't. Yeah, no, so be cause Sarah claimed
- 28:57Speaker 1: that they had dropped Adrian off at the nearby Victimolds
- 29:00Speaker 1: after a minor argument, stating that they'd made up by
- 29:03Speaker 1: the time they dropped her off, and Corey provided a
- 29:09Speaker 1: slightly contrasting narrative stating that the group had picked up
- 29:12Speaker 1: Adrian with the intention of Sarah and her reconciling their differences,
- 29:17Speaker 1: and according to him, there was a minor argument, but
- 29:20Speaker 1: they managed to resolve it over lunch where they ate,
- 29:24Speaker 1: and then after the meal, Adrian requested to be dropped
- 29:27Speaker 1: off Adam McDonald's, so Corey saying, yeah, they sorted it
- 29:32Speaker 1: out over lunch, whereas Sarah's like, no, we sorted it out,
- 29:38Speaker 1: didn't eat, and then dropped her off so she can
- 29:40Speaker 1: go have lunch.
- 29:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I honestly can't say that's surprising to me.
- 29:43Speaker 1: Yeah, so there was not not a lot. I mean,
- 29:46Speaker 1: there was consistencies, but it wasn't fully consistent to what
- 29:49Speaker 1: they were saying. However, the weight of the guilt was
- 29:55Speaker 1: weighing heavy on Corey's conscience.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Okay, I knew it was going to be Corey, he
- 29:59Speaker 2: knew it was gonna be. I knew it was going
- 30:01Speaker 2: to be Cory.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Yeah, which of course set him apart from Sarah because
- 30:05Speaker 1: Sarah didn't seem like she was going to be cracking.
- 30:07Speaker 1: So the burden of the whole secret became unbearable, and
- 30:10Speaker 1: during the police interrogation, Corey finally broke down and confessed
- 30:14Speaker 1: the whole horrifying truth. So he revealed that the week earlier,
- 30:19Speaker 1: Sarah had been beaten and strangled or sorry, Sarah had
- 30:23Speaker 1: beaten and strangled Adrian my bad in the backseat of
- 30:27Speaker 1: the car, and together they had dismembered and disposed of
- 30:31Speaker 1: her body.
- 30:32Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, they actually went to the extent where
- 30:35Speaker 2: they dismembered her body.
- 30:37Speaker 1: Yes, holy shit. Before we get into that, I do
- 30:43Speaker 1: want to recount a conversation with Brett Gregory, who's Corey's father.
- 30:50Speaker 1: So he stated, quote, he started crying, and I started
- 30:55Speaker 1: asking him questions, and he started breaking down. He started
- 30:59Speaker 1: crying more, so I knew something was up. I just
- 31:02Speaker 1: couldn't even say anything. I just cried and hugged him,
- 31:06Speaker 1: and he says, mom, I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry.
- 31:11Speaker 1: At that point, my heart was so broken. I didn't
- 31:13Speaker 1: even have words. I said, did something happen to her
- 31:17Speaker 1: in that car and he started shaking his head. Yes,
- 31:20Speaker 1: he couldn't talk. I said, did she get hurt in
- 31:24Speaker 1: the car? He shook his head yes. I said did
- 31:28Speaker 1: she get hurt bad? He said really, really a lot.
- 31:34Speaker 1: I said, is she dead? He shook his head yes.
- 31:38Speaker 1: I said, well, where's she at? He just couldn't He
- 31:42Speaker 1: just couldn't talk.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Holy that that's heavy, Like that's brutal, right, that makes
- 31:53Speaker 2: me like want to solve my face off.
- 31:56Speaker 1: That's a conversation between a father and son step by
- 32:01Speaker 1: step figuring out that he killed his friend.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Yeah, wow, I mean, because that's the thing, like you see,
- 32:12Speaker 2: like Adrian was the victim, right, yes, but then there's
- 32:16Speaker 2: other victims always in like in crimes and stuff too,
- 32:20Speaker 2: that don't necessarily get like recognized, I suppose. But yeah,
- 32:24Speaker 2: like imagine being a parent. Your kid made the one
- 32:28Speaker 2: of the worst decisions that you could ever have made,
- 32:31Speaker 2: like really fucked up. Oh yeah, and like their life
- 32:34Speaker 2: is gonna be like overaltered to to yeah, like a
- 32:38Speaker 2: state of being over almost. Yeah, so brutal.
- 32:43Speaker 1: So Corey's absolutely chilling confession because I mean, your eyes
- 32:48Speaker 1: are watery as fuck right now.
- 32:50Speaker 2: I could hardly listen to that all hit.
- 32:53Speaker 1: It would continue to unfold in questioning as he described
- 32:56Speaker 1: the horrific aftermath of their actions, and this is where
- 32:59Speaker 1: they actually understand the details of the beating and the strangulation.
- 33:05Speaker 1: So when he described this, he described when they arrived
- 33:09Speaker 1: at the farm in the secluded spot detailed, they decided
- 33:14Speaker 1: they were going to try and dispose of their friend's remains.
- 33:17Speaker 1: So quote, we poured gasoline on her and lit her
- 33:21Speaker 1: on fire, Corey revealed. When asked about the details, he
- 33:27Speaker 1: admitted to being the one who poured the gasoline on
- 33:29Speaker 1: the tarp that was covering Adrian's body, and they used
- 33:33Speaker 1: a buttane lighter to set the fire ablaze while Sarah
- 33:37Speaker 1: stood beside him, seeking comfort as tears streamed down her face. However,
- 33:43Speaker 1: the plan didn't exactly go as expected. Adrian didn't turn
- 33:47Speaker 1: to ash as they hoped, instead of simply burning the
- 33:50Speaker 1: evidence where they were as they were hoping. They were
- 33:54Speaker 1: left with a macabre dilemma of what to do next
- 33:57Speaker 1: because Adrian's body was still completely there was just she
- 34:00Speaker 1: now had some severe burns on herself.
- 34:02Speaker 2: They literally thought that it would just be like cremating her.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Yes, really, hey, I don't think pouring gas on a
- 34:09Speaker 1: steak would cremate a steak, Like you're going to see
- 34:13Speaker 1: her and burn and chart, but it's not doing anything
- 34:17Speaker 1: internally or all the way through. So yeah, tarp and
- 34:21Speaker 1: gasoline they thought was going to just cremate her, not
- 34:24Speaker 1: even close. So Corey and Sarah contemplated cutting up Adrian's
- 34:29Speaker 1: body to dispose of her, but Sarah wasn't going to
- 34:34Speaker 1: do it, and Corey and Corey refused, unable to bear
- 34:38Speaker 1: the idea of cutting her up. Okay, okay, In their desperation,
- 34:42Speaker 1: they came up with an idea. They sought the assistance
- 34:45Speaker 1: of another friend by the name of Nathan Goddet, someone
- 34:50Speaker 1: who had a very dark fascination with blood, gore, and violence.
- 34:56Speaker 2: Holy okay, I'm just like, now, yeah, you almost think
- 35:02Speaker 2: this shit's wrapping up and it's not.
- 35:04Speaker 1: Nope. So the following day, with Nathan now in tow,
- 35:08Speaker 1: they returned back to the farm. Armed with Nathan and
- 35:12Speaker 1: his grandfather's hacksaw. Whoa, Nathan began to dismember Adrian's body
- 35:20Speaker 1: piece by piece.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Okay, was this fucking Nathan guy friends with her as well?
- 35:25Speaker 1: I don't know if he was friends with Adrian or
- 35:27Speaker 1: not he would have known her. I'm assuming, but I
- 35:30Speaker 1: don't know.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Okay, I am just like, what the actual fuck at
- 35:34Speaker 2: this point? Oh yeah, he actually went and fucking helped.
- 35:39Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, okay, yeah, he just went and just began
- 35:45Speaker 1: hacking her body up while the other two just sat
- 35:48Speaker 1: back and watched.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Good god. Okay.
- 35:52Speaker 1: So, once Adrian's remains were in more manageable pieces, I
- 35:56Speaker 1: guess as a way to describe it, they discarded torso
- 36:00Speaker 1: and legs in a nearby ravine before grabbing a meal
- 36:04Speaker 1: at McDonald's and then proceeding to the nearby local Blackhawk
- 36:09Speaker 1: Historic site, where they buried remains. The rest of the
- 36:13Speaker 1: remains several feet below a manhole cover.
- 36:18Speaker 2: They went and had some fucking chicken nuggets with plum sauce.
- 36:22Speaker 2: After they did.
- 36:22Speaker 1: That show if they had nuggets and plum sauce, that
- 36:25Speaker 1: is so fucked. Yeah. They butchered their friends, disposed of
- 36:28Speaker 1: half her remains, went to McDonald's for lunch, and then
- 36:31Speaker 1: continued the rest. Holy shit, Yeah, how can you say
- 36:38Speaker 1: that you even have a conscience, let alone a fucking
- 36:40Speaker 1: stomach to eat lunch in a situation like that. That
- 36:44Speaker 1: is fucked.
- 36:45Speaker 2: Thanks for the fucking warning for this one. Here. I
- 36:48Speaker 2: was just like Lotti da da da, sitting down. I
- 36:51Speaker 2: don't know why I'm Lati da like, of course shit's
- 36:54Speaker 2: going down here.
- 36:55Speaker 1: But holy crap, Well your reaction is pretty much the
- 36:58Speaker 1: reaction the whole investigation team went. Corey was confessing this
- 37:01Speaker 1: in the interrogation.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Wow, okay, Like, I don't even know if someone's confessing
- 37:06Speaker 2: shit like this. I just don't actually think. I've always
- 37:09Speaker 2: thought I could be an investigator, but I don't know
- 37:11Speaker 2: if I could, because I don't think I could have
- 37:13Speaker 2: like a poker face during that shit.
- 37:15Speaker 1: You don't have a poker face. Now you look fucking pissed.
- 37:18Speaker 2: I'm very uncomfortable, very agitated, and pissed.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yes, rightfully so. So after the whole confession in the interrogation,
- 37:28Speaker 1: the police now know what happened, what's going on. Corey
- 37:33Speaker 1: would lead police to the Blackhawk Historical Site where they
- 37:36Speaker 1: uncovered Adrian's severed arms and head, and then to Sarah's
- 37:41Speaker 1: grandparents farm where they found her legs and partially charred Torso.
- 37:47Speaker 1: So the investigator's police now have their suspects. They had
- 37:50Speaker 1: a confession, and they now had remains. However, one crucial
- 37:54Speaker 1: detail remained concealed in Corey's testimony, a detail that I
- 37:59Speaker 1: actually already did divults the involvement of the friend Nathan.
- 38:04Speaker 1: Corey didn't initially tell investigators about him. Really, it was
- 38:09Speaker 1: only through Nathan's grandmother that the police learned his role
- 38:14Speaker 1: in this whole gruesome incident.
- 38:17Speaker 2: Oh, I'm surprised by that.
- 38:19Speaker 1: Yeah, So she contacted authorities concerned about a bloody hacksaw
- 38:23Speaker 1: she found in her basement, jeez, which pointed towards her
- 38:28Speaker 1: grandson's involvement, And when questioning Corey about it, he was like, oh, yeah,
- 38:34Speaker 1: he yeah, here's how his involvement went. And then he
- 38:37Speaker 1: divulged that piece of information. Sorry for being a little
- 38:41Speaker 1: bit off track with that events, but it seemed more
- 38:44Speaker 1: right to tell you his involvement earlier.
- 38:46Speaker 2: That's fine, but that, I mean, good for the grandma. Yeah, honestly,
- 38:50Speaker 2: like that's impressive because like, I don't think that would
- 38:53Speaker 2: necessarily be an easy thing for a grandma to do.
- 38:56Speaker 1: I don't think so. So Yeah, anyways, this whole situation, Corey,
- 39:05Speaker 1: he justified his acts, his actions as an act of
- 39:08Speaker 1: protecting Sarah, a girl he deeply cared for from facing
- 39:13Speaker 1: jail time. He wanted to prevent her from facing jail time.
- 39:16Speaker 1: He wanted to help her and cover this up, And
- 39:18Speaker 1: it was all basically an act of love, which I'm
- 39:23Speaker 1: pretty sure we all kind of guess that anyways. Yeah,
- 39:27Speaker 1: so once we were kind of talking into getting tried
- 39:30Speaker 1: and trials. Despite efforts, Sarah was eventually tried as an adult,
- 39:36Speaker 1: but her first trial ended in a mistrial on November
- 39:40Speaker 1: sixteenth in two thousand and five, as the jury couldn't
- 39:43Speaker 1: reach a unanimous verdict, which surprises the absolute hell out
- 39:49Speaker 1: of me.
- 39:49Speaker 2: I don't, yeah, what's like, what was the issue?
- 39:54Speaker 1: I don't know exactly, but they could not reach a verdict.
- 39:57Speaker 1: They could not all determine if she was guilty or innocent.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Someone was at least on one opposing side, at least one.
- 40:09Speaker 1: So in the retrial that began on February eighth, two
- 40:12Speaker 1: thousand and six, Sarah was found guilty of first degree
- 40:16Speaker 1: murder and concealing a homicide for three weeks.
- 40:20Speaker 2: Okay, first agree, Hey, yes.
- 40:23Speaker 1: She received a sentence. You ready for this?
- 40:27Speaker 2: M hm? Oh it's better be good fifty three years ohkay? Okay?
- 40:32Speaker 2: And bars Yeah, I'm actually alright with that.
- 40:34Speaker 1: Yeah. Corey pled guilty to the same crimes in May
- 40:39Speaker 1: of two thousand and five, with his supposed minimal participation
- 40:44Speaker 1: resulting in a sentence of forty five years.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Whoa, uh okay, I kind of feel like that one's
- 40:53Speaker 2: I don't know, that's so tough. I feel like that's
- 40:55Speaker 2: a bit much considering what she got. But oh god, yeah, okay.
- 41:03Speaker 1: So he did have an appeal, and his latest one
- 41:05Speaker 1: was denied on September seventeenth, two thousand and nine, where
- 41:09Speaker 1: part of his complaint revolved around seeking a lesser sentence
- 41:12Speaker 1: because he was the one who led authorities to Adrian's remains.
- 41:16Speaker 1: The judge basically referred to his appeal as a case
- 41:19Speaker 1: of buyer's remorse because he attempted to withdraw his guilty
- 41:22Speaker 1: plea and demand a new trial because he's all like, well,
- 41:25Speaker 1: I led you to the remains. I should get a
- 41:27Speaker 1: lesser charge. I mean, you still did the fucking crime. Yeah,
- 41:30Speaker 1: And I mean, honestly, you did get a lesser charge.
- 41:34Speaker 1: It's I don't know. He he didn't. He wasn't the
- 41:38Speaker 1: one who pulled the trigger, but he was there. He
- 41:41Speaker 1: let it happen. He pinned her down, He then hid
- 41:45Speaker 1: her body, he helped someone find someone to dismember her body. Sure,
- 41:51Speaker 1: he confessed later, but you still did all those fucking
- 41:56Speaker 1: horrific things in the meantime.
- 41:58Speaker 2: I know, I'm struggling with that when little bit because
- 42:01Speaker 2: I guess, like, if it wasn't for him, or sorry,
- 42:04Speaker 2: if it wasn't for Sarah, like he wouldn't have done that.
- 42:07Speaker 2: But I don't know. I mean, he definitely deserves jail
- 42:11Speaker 2: time one hundred percent. Yeah, But and then I just
- 42:14Speaker 2: wanted to say too, I'm almost wondering if Sarah's original trial,
- 42:19Speaker 2: if it was an issue of like deciding if it
- 42:22Speaker 2: was like first degree versus kind of like manslaughter or something.
- 42:25Speaker 2: It's just a thought in my head because like, maybe
- 42:28Speaker 2: it was kind of obvious that she's guilty. I can't
- 42:30Speaker 2: imagine someone thinking she's not, So maybe it was just
- 42:33Speaker 2: not sure for the charge.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Maybe I don't know, That's.
- 42:36Speaker 2: That's the only way my head can go.
- 42:38Speaker 1: Yeah. The whole Justine system sentencing for Nathan, however, was
- 42:44Speaker 1: widely deemed inadequate for the severity of his actions. So
- 42:49Speaker 1: regarding that Sarah had fifty three and Corey had forty
- 42:54Speaker 1: five with Nathan due to the plea bargaining at his
- 42:58Speaker 1: age at the time of the crime, then received a
- 43:01Speaker 1: relatively lenient sentence of what do you.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Think five years?
- 43:07Speaker 1: Five years in juvenile detention?
- 43:09Speaker 2: Yeah, which is fucked. Yeah, because if anyone I feel
- 43:12Speaker 2: like is going to reoffend, potentially it could be him.
- 43:15Speaker 1: I agree, Yeah, because he just jumped in there and
- 43:18Speaker 1: happily packed up a.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Body like it's it's actually like terrifying.
- 43:21Speaker 1: Yeah, which I mean, that's pretty much what everyone else
- 43:27Speaker 1: is saying. Like the whole decision was raising concerns about
- 43:30Speaker 1: public safety given the potential risk associated with his release
- 43:34Speaker 1: on what he fucking did. Yeah, that's everyone's concerns too. Yeah,
- 43:37Speaker 1: Like he has a subsession, he no questions asked, just
- 43:41Speaker 1: hacked up someone.
- 43:42Speaker 2: And got a taste for this now yeah, well yeah exactly.
- 43:46Speaker 1: And he's only gonna put away in juvenile attention for.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Five years yep. So oh that makes me almost ill.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Yeah. The case of Adrian Reynolds, of course, remains a
- 43:58Speaker 1: horrific and sad story. She's a young girl who was
- 44:01Speaker 1: just trying to better her life but instead lost it
- 44:03Speaker 1: because of a jealous friend and a quasi love triangle.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Jeez. And the fact, okay, like what happened in the
- 44:11Speaker 2: back seat was like horrible, But the fact that they
- 44:14Speaker 2: just man like destroyed her body, like destroyed her body
- 44:21Speaker 2: for her family, if that's like what they did to
- 44:25Speaker 2: it after the fact, is like is almost just as disturbing.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Really, well, what was the point of dismembering her? They
- 44:35Speaker 1: dumped her in locations? Cool, they didn't really cover her
- 44:39Speaker 1: by any means. She was dumped in half of her
- 44:40Speaker 1: was dumped in ravine on her parents, her grandparents property. Okay,
- 44:44Speaker 1: if someone comes across that ravine, they're just gonna see
- 44:47Speaker 1: pieces of a body. Yeah, why not just dump an
- 44:49Speaker 1: entire body so there's no difference, you know.
- 44:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah it was. It's like almost just so unlogical
- 44:56Speaker 2: their thought process, I guess of what was going through
- 44:59Speaker 2: their head. I mean, they were obviously panicking.
- 45:01Speaker 1: Maybe they were just angry, you know, they just couldn't
- 45:03Speaker 1: think clearly.
- 45:05Speaker 2: Until their McDonald until they had.
- 45:06Speaker 1: Their fucking McDonald's.
- 45:08Speaker 2: Oh that's so disturbing. I literally can't believe that someone
- 45:12Speaker 2: would want to eat, like would be able to eat
- 45:15Speaker 2: like after that.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Holy.
- 45:19Speaker 1: So Yeah, that's the story of Adrian Reynolds.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Huh, that's really really sad.
- 45:25Speaker 1: Yeah, so that one came up on our discord, so
- 45:27Speaker 1: thank you for that.
- 45:29Speaker 2: And sorry, this was in the United States or where
- 45:31Speaker 2: was this?
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yes?
- 45:33Speaker 2: Okay in the States, Okay, okay.
- 45:36Speaker 1: How many times are you going to say? Okay? I
- 45:37Speaker 1: don't know.
- 45:38Speaker 2: I'm very disturbed right now. I don't have anything, rightfully,
- 45:41Speaker 2: So this was this was bothersome to me, this one.
- 45:47Speaker 1: Why exactly was it bothersome? Just because it was so like,
- 45:50Speaker 1: there's no point to this.
- 45:51Speaker 2: It was just yeah, and I guess it was just
- 45:53Speaker 2: like very unexpected, like it was just and ones that
- 45:57Speaker 2: bother me more when it's just so like unnecessary, and
- 46:02Speaker 2: not that any are necessary, but when it's just so
- 46:06Speaker 2: like absurd. I don't know. This one, just this one
- 46:09Speaker 2: just is hard for me to process for some reason
- 46:12Speaker 2: right now.
- 46:13Speaker 1: Fair enough. I mean, I'm someone who plays Devil's advocate
- 46:17Speaker 1: all the time, so I try and get in the
- 46:20Speaker 1: head of what someone is thinking or reasons why not
- 46:23Speaker 1: that I agree with it, you know, But at least
- 46:25Speaker 1: with some killers, you can get in their head and
- 46:28Speaker 1: you understand their thought process as dark and stupid as
- 46:32Speaker 1: it is. With this one, I can't do that. I
- 46:35Speaker 1: can't understand her thought process. Boys like you, so I'm
- 46:41Speaker 1: going to kill you?
- 46:42Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. Sometimes teenage girls are interesting.
- 46:47Speaker 1: Trust me, so can teenage boys. I think teenagers in
- 46:50Speaker 1: gener yeah, are just interesting. But humans too.
- 46:53Speaker 2: But I all ages, I very much. So do believe
- 46:59Speaker 2: that there could have pit potentially been some ill feelings
- 47:02Speaker 2: or like, I don't think that her intentions were appear
- 47:07Speaker 2: when she offered to go have lunch with Adrian.
- 47:10Speaker 1: To be honest, no, I don't think so either. But
- 47:13Speaker 1: I don't think she had the intentions of killing her there.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Maybe not killing yeah, because.
- 47:17Speaker 1: Like I said, a very public place. Who's going to
- 47:20Speaker 1: kill someone mid day like lunch rush we're talking here?
- 47:23Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 47:24Speaker 1: Yeah, Like that doesn't line up to me.
- 47:27Speaker 2: But I don't really think that it was like to reconcile.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Maybe not. Maybe she planned on just kicking the shit
- 47:32Speaker 1: out of her or something.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Mm hmm. Interesting.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Maybe she did plan on that whole altercation in the
- 47:39Speaker 1: car too, but she just didn't plan on actually killing her,
- 47:43Speaker 1: you know. And then as it's happening, this deep seated
- 47:48Speaker 1: thing that she actually kind of really wants to happen,
- 47:52Speaker 1: did you know yeah, well maybe I don't know one way,
- 47:58Speaker 1: no matter how you slice it like this, it's just
- 48:00Speaker 1: so fucked it doesn't make sense. There's the motive for
- 48:05Speaker 1: boys think you're cute and you want to date my
- 48:09Speaker 1: ex boyfriend who I am not dating anymore, and refuse
- 48:13Speaker 1: to date, so I'm gonna kill you. Doesn't make any
- 48:16Speaker 1: fucking sense.
- 48:18Speaker 2: Yeah, this honestly just makes me a like not miss
- 48:21Speaker 2: being a teenager and be like, actually, like pretty fine
- 48:25Speaker 2: that we're not having kids, because that shit's just yeah,
- 48:30Speaker 2: I can't. I don't think i'd be able to deal
- 48:32Speaker 2: with that.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Yeah, it's pretty I'd like grim.
- 48:34Speaker 2: My huskies and my chickens and yeah, but honestly, kiwi
- 48:39Speaker 2: oh and Kiwi sorry my chicken.
- 48:41Speaker 1: It's a second thought.
- 48:42Speaker 2: The chickens could raise some hell too.
- 48:44Speaker 1: Oh yeah, well chickens will probably eventually bully and pick
- 48:49Speaker 1: on each other, right.
- 48:50Speaker 2: So yeah, and I'm not gonna be doing well with
- 48:53Speaker 2: that anyway.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it work.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Research for that one.
- 48:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that one was actually relative easy to research. I
- 49:01Speaker 1: don't know why, but I just had I don't know,
- 49:04Speaker 1: there was something about it that was like easy to research.
- 49:06Speaker 1: The whole information out there wasn't a super accessible. I
- 49:11Speaker 1: think it was just so intriguing to me, Like I
- 49:15Speaker 1: was really captivated with what the fuck that I was
- 49:18Speaker 1: just into the research on it, you know.
- 49:20Speaker 2: Yeah, And like I mean, it had like a really
- 49:22Speaker 2: like easy timeline to follow to ice.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Of hope it did. It really did, because there's not
- 49:27Speaker 1: like like the actions occurred a couple days later confession
- 49:31Speaker 1: and like it all happened within like six months sort
- 49:34Speaker 1: of thing as opposed to like years of time. And
- 49:38Speaker 1: you know, so I think that kind of definitely helped.
- 49:40Speaker 1: But I hope you guys enjoyed this episode. It is interesting.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I was just going to say, yeah, they even went
- 49:46Speaker 2: through the court process pretty dang quickly. Really, yeah they did, honestly. Yeah, Okay,
- 49:52Speaker 2: and I just wanted to say really quickly, I am
- 49:55Speaker 2: finally working on an episode.
- 49:58Speaker 1: It will come.
- 49:59Speaker 2: It will be a little while. Yeah, this wedding season

- 50:21Speaker 1: going to do.

- 50:28Speaker 2: it's a camping related one. It's been on my list
- 50:30Speaker 2: for frickin ever. I have the friggin' book that I yeah, okay, well.
- 50:35Speaker 1: There you go. It's camping related one, is it? Jason vohees, No,
