Speaker 3: by the name of Karen Adkins. So I got acquainted
• 1:55
Speaker 3: with her last week or so. She's an avid listener
• 1:57
Speaker 3: to the show. Appreciate that. And she's undertaken a passion
• 2:01
Speaker 3: of hers that she first discovered as her husband was
• 2:05
Speaker 3: sick in an out of state hospital and she saw
• 2:08
Speaker 3: the need for affordable places for people to stay as
• 2:11
Speaker 3: their loved ones were undergoing medical treatment. It's really, really
• 2:16
Speaker 3: a great story. She's a lady from right here in

Speaker 3: the Canal Valley, and we'll talk to her about that.
• 2:19

• 2:40
Speaker 3: welcome into the show in person today, the lovely and
• 2:44
Speaker 3: talented Millie Snyder. How are you.
• 2:47
Speaker 5: I'm wonderful, Thank you, And may I tell you the
• 2:50
Speaker 5: snow is really not that bad out there.
• 2:53
Speaker 3: It doesn't matter. You wouldn't care no matter what it was,
• 2:57
Speaker 3: because I gave you the option. We had just set
• 2:59
Speaker 3: up to go and I told Colonel Ron Hughes, I said, look,
• 3:01
Speaker 3: if Millie wants to call in. She's she can't by
• 3:05
Speaker 3: gud here, she is. You're here before. Most of the
• 3:07
Speaker 3: employees are here today, but you're here in personally.
• 3:09
Speaker 5: When my daughter was younger, we lived on a street
• 3:12
Speaker 5: that had a hill, and of course I would take
• 3:14
Speaker 5: her to school and I would say to Jennifer, if
• 3:17
Speaker 5: we make it to the top of the hill, we're
• 3:19
  Speaker 5: a monkey's uncle. And today she said, I said, I'm
• 3:23
Speaker 5: going to do my regular thing. I'm going to be
• 3:25
Speaker 5: on radio. She said, of course, mother, you're a monkey's uncle.
• 3:28
Speaker 5: So therefore that's a new identifier for Millie Snyder.
• 3:32
Speaker 3: I got to get into this quick story and then
• 3:34
Speaker 3: I know you told me you've got a big announcement
• 3:36
Speaker 3: you want to make, and we'll get to that, but
• 3:37
Speaker 3: I want to say this. I introduced you to Steve Annimal,
• 3:41
Speaker 3: who was roaming around the halls from our sister station
• 3:43
Speaker 3: ninety eight seven A mouth. By the way, You're not
• 3:45
Speaker 3: to talk to Steve Animal because he will corrupt you, okay,
• 3:48
Speaker 3: But I introduced you to him and we got to
• 3:50
Speaker 3: talking about you know, music. You and I did you
• 3:52
Speaker 3: off here and you told me a story about going
• 3:55
Speaker 3: to an Eagles concert. I did I need you to
• 3:58
Speaker 3: repeat that story for the listeners please.
• 4:01
Speaker 5: Friends of mine a number of years ago invited me
• 4:04
Speaker 5: to join them in Columbus to an Eagles concert. And
• 4:08
Speaker 5: I actually had a wonderful evening and didn't get home
• 4:12
Speaker 5: to three o'clock in the morning because the person drove.
• 4:15
Speaker 5: You know, we I think we ate dinner at some
• 4:18
Speaker 5: gas station. Anyway, it's not important. Well, the next morning
• 4:22
Speaker 5: my daughter called me and she said, where were you
• 4:25
Speaker 5: last night? Mother? I said, I went to an Eagles concert,
• 4:28
Speaker 5: And she said, may I please speak to my mother
• 4:31
Speaker 5: because she did not believe that I went to an
• 4:35
Speaker 5: Eagles concert. I actually enjoyed myself and had a great time.
• 4:39
Speaker 3: Well, you know, and I have a feeling that if
• 4:40
Speaker 3: the Eagles were to come to town. Of course, the
• 4:42
Speaker 3: tickets are like you know when they do tours now,
• 4:44
Speaker 3: it's like five hundred bucks apiece. But if they did
• 4:46
Speaker 3: decide to come, you'd probably be there again, wouldn't you.
• 4:48
Speaker 5: Well, only for a nostalgia. Yeah, I want to see
• 4:51
Speaker 5: if they are good the second time.
• 4:53
Speaker 3: Millie Snyder is here, all right, So, so are you
• 4:57
Speaker 3: a person that enjoys the cold weather? The cold snugus?
• 5:00
Speaker 3: There's two or three types of people, people that you know,
• 5:02
Speaker 3: I like the people in West Virginia that say I
• 5:05
Speaker 3: like the four seasons, I like a little bit of change.
• 5:08
Speaker 3: This is ridiculous. And there's people that say that that
• 5:10
Speaker 3: they can't stand it. There's people that say, I want
• 5:13
Speaker 3: it to be as hot as possible. I'm not a fan.
• 5:17
Speaker 3: People that know this show, No I don't. I did
• 5:20
Speaker 3: test I'm sorry, Joe Stevens from the Ski Association, but
• 5:22
Speaker 3: I did test winter, and I did test snow, and
• 5:25
Speaker 3: then I realized the economic impact I'm talking about just
• 5:28
Speaker 3: for me, because in this world now it's all about me.
• 5:30
Speaker 5: You know that I never doubted that.
• 5:33
Speaker 3: Well, I can't stand it, I really and this winter
• 5:37
Speaker 3: has been the longest seven years of my life.
• 5:40
  Speaker 6: I really can't say.
• 5:41
Speaker 5: In November, I don't know whether it was close to
• 5:44
Speaker 5: Thanksgiving or the first of December, but I read that
• 5:47
Speaker 5: we were going to have a mild winter, and whoever
• 5:50
Speaker 5: wrote that was either on something or totally delusionary you
• 5:55
Speaker 5: because we've had more snow than I remember it's and.
• 6:01
Speaker 3: What we temperatures well, and that's really a bigger deal
• 6:04
Speaker 3: because than the snow, because we've only really had one
• 6:07
Speaker 3: quote unquote big snow, and that was the one in January.
• 6:10
Speaker 3: This snow out here, there's not a lot of it,
• 6:12
Speaker 3: but because of the temperature, it's creating a lot of issues.
• 6:15
Speaker 3: And let's be honest, you know, the scraping they can
• 6:17
Speaker 3: only do so much. Salting really doesn't do a heck
• 6:20
Speaker 3: of a lot when it's as cold as what it
• 6:22
Speaker 3: is now. So I just thought I would.
• 6:24
Speaker 5: I'm grateful that my car is four wheel drive.
• 6:27
Speaker 3: But you got to be careful because four wheel drive,
• 6:31
Speaker 3: that's that's you know. Keep in mind, that really didn't
• 6:34
Speaker 3: do a whole lot of ice. So let's get that.
• 6:36
Speaker 5: And I am taking my time and being careful that
• 6:39
Speaker 5: I got stuff to do.
• 6:40
Speaker 3: I know you did because you said when you left
• 6:42
Speaker 3: here you started telling me in your itinerary. I got
• 6:44
Speaker 3: tired of listening to you because you were telling me
• 6:47
Speaker 3: all of the things you had to do when you
• 6:48
Speaker 3: left here, including going to work out.
• 6:50
  Speaker 7: Yes.
• 6:50
Speaker 5: Because oh and by the way, many people who know me,
• 6:54
Speaker 5: because of some many many back surgeries, I've been using
• 6:56
Speaker 5: a cane to help me maneuver. And the care has
• 7:00
Speaker 5: been arrested, not by the blaw, just I put it
• 7:03
Speaker 5: away because I'm getting stronger and I'm walking without it,
• 7:07
Speaker 5: and I'm very excited.
• 7:08
Speaker 3: There you go talking to Millie Snyder. All right, you
• 7:11
Speaker 3: said you had a big announcement. You want to get
• 7:13
  Speaker 3: that now.
• 7:13
Speaker 5: And you know, I teach a group for healthy eating,
• 7:17
Speaker 5: and I for years now have called it fix it
• 7:20
Speaker 5: with foods. Well it's no longer known as fix it
• 7:24
Speaker 5: with foods. It is now Mediterranean mindset, a sustainable way
• 7:30
Speaker 5: of life, and I'm excited about that. We're going to
• 7:33
Speaker 5: put out I'm going to pick up some posters over
• 7:35
Speaker 5: at Charleston Blueprint and hopefully people will help me get
• 7:39
  Speaker 5: them out.
• 7:40
Speaker 3: Hope you can get all that on, all that on
• 7:42
Speaker 3: one it is, it's on.
• 7:43
Speaker 5: There already, Okay, on I should have brought one in.
• 7:47
Speaker 5: But more importantly, the Mediterranean lifestyle is the way to eat,
• 7:52
Speaker 5: is the way to go. And I am very very
• 7:55
Speaker 5: sad because the things around all of this segma glue
• 8:00
Speaker 5: tide that people are using to get thin. It's not
• 8:05
Speaker 5: a long term answer, it's a temporary fix. And what
• 8:09
Speaker 5: I'm concerned with is people eating and eating in a
• 8:12
Speaker 5: healthy way, and that's what Mediterranean is. It's not about medication.
• 8:17
Speaker 5: Medication is kind of a false I guess narrative in.
• 8:23
Speaker 3: So many different ways other than just diet.
• 8:26
  Speaker 5: Yes, yes, I know that, and I don't think I
• 8:28
Speaker 5: don't think I could list them all and still stay
• 8:30
Speaker 5: within your time frame. But I'm very, very concerned. I
• 8:35
Speaker 5: saw a sign in Kanas City yesterday that said diet
• 8:39
Speaker 5: shots half price, and that told me all that I
• 8:42
Speaker 5: needed to know. Because half price, it's not the cost
• 8:45
Speaker 5: of the of the medication. It's that it's being pushed
• 8:50
Speaker 5: at us in a very very unprofessional way.
• 8:53
Speaker 3: I would agree with that. We are talking again with
• 8:56
Speaker 3: Millie Snyder, So why what made you lead to the
• 8:59
Speaker 3: or go to this name change or not a name change,
• 9:01
Speaker 3: but the branding so to speak?
• 9:03
Speaker 5: On that well, because fix it with foods didn't really
• 9:06
Speaker 5: tell you what it was. I mean, fix it with
• 9:08
Speaker 5: foods with what cookies, candy, ice cream, French fries. So
• 9:12
Speaker 5: it's more of explain. I can't even say the word
• 9:17
Speaker 5: explanatory came out of my mouth. And I think that
• 9:20
Speaker 5: people can will be able to identify it more readily
• 9:24
Speaker 5: and make a more open minded choice, and I hope
• 9:27
Speaker 5: more people will come. We meet at the Prosperity Center
• 9:30
Speaker 5: at Goodwill and if the weather doesn't really get bad.
• 9:33
Speaker 5: We're going to have our meeting tomorrow morning. If for
• 9:36
Speaker 5: weather reasons people can come, then of course we'll see
• 9:40
Speaker 5: them next week. But we're seeing some new people and
• 9:43
Speaker 5: that's exciting and people want to get started as soon
• 9:46
Speaker 5: as possible. We're already into the second month of the year.
• 9:50
Speaker 5: Usually people join the first week, but that's not the
• 9:53
Speaker 5: first week of the year. But really joining when your
• 9:57
Speaker 5: mind is made up, and Mediterranean is the way to go,
• 10:00
Speaker 5: and never take Millie's word. Always ask your doctor, and
• 10:05
Speaker 5: most doctors will say Mediterranean is the way. It's been
• 10:09
Speaker 5: around for a long time. Jesus and Mohammad ate this way.
• 10:13
Speaker 5: Maybe Picasso, who knows, I mean, what supermarket did they
• 10:17
  Speaker 5: go to?
• 10:17
Speaker 3: Exactly exactly? But they've allen showing five any life brought
• 10:20
Speaker 3: to you in part about Pinnacle Consultants. Their services involved
• 10:23
Speaker 3: developing comprehensive management plans to outline strategies for controlling to
• 10:27
Speaker 3: minimizing as best as exposure. Perfect for commercial property owners
• 10:30
Speaker 3: and managers. Vis A Pinnacle Corp dot net because what
• 10:32
Speaker 3: you don't know can't hurt you. When people attend these classes, Melly,
• 10:35
Speaker 3: what do you do? I mean, it's an education it's
• 10:37
Speaker 3: education and yell atam or what do you do?
• 10:39
  Speaker 5: No, we don't yell, I don't know, I know. Actually
• 10:42
Speaker 5: we have a lot of fun and we let people
• 10:45
Speaker 5: set the pace. But every week we give additional important
• 10:50
Speaker 5: information about food, health, things that we can all benefit from.
• 10:55
Speaker 5: Ones we read it and put it into action. But
• 10:58
Speaker 5: when a person comes on board Word with Mediterranean, we
• 11:01
Speaker 5: never just hand them a book. We sit with them
• 11:04
Speaker 5: and teach them the program item for item for item.
• 11:08
Speaker 5: It should never be oh, just take this home and
• 11:11
Speaker 5: read it, because that's not that's not where you get
• 11:14
Speaker 5: group support. And group support is so essentially important.
• 11:18
Speaker 3: In so many different things. You know, whether you're trying
• 11:20
Speaker 3: to kick a habit or whether you're just trying to
• 11:22
Speaker 3: have somebody to you know, to to you know me,
• 11:26
Speaker 3: to look at you need to and accountability, accountability.
• 11:29
Speaker 5: Accountability, you know it's not we do. We do get
• 11:33
Speaker 5: weighed in. But the point is it's not about whether
• 11:36
Speaker 5: it's win or lose. It's about your health and improvement
• 11:40
Speaker 5: and feeling good about yourself. And when you can do that,
• 11:43
Speaker 5: you've done something that is worthy because you're worthy.
• 11:47
Speaker 3: One of the knocks that that we always get on
• 11:50
Speaker 3: healthy eating of any kind, and we have textures to
• 11:52
Speaker 3: show so. And they're right about this, by the way.
• 11:54
Speaker 3: They say it's just too expensive.
• 11:57
Speaker 5: And especially right now because we are going through crazy inflation.
• 12:01
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, exactly. And people will say, well, it's just
• 12:04
Speaker 3: so much, especially maybe you've got a family, you got
• 12:06
Speaker 3: a couple of kids. It's so much easier to hit
• 12:08
Speaker 3: the drive through. It's so much easier to hit the
• 12:10
Speaker 3: pizza roles or whatever. But one of the things about
• 12:12
Speaker 3: Mediterranean is that a lot of the stuff is not
• 12:17
Speaker 3: that expensive, correct, And that's one thank you for pointing out.
• 12:20
Speaker 3: That's one of the key things talking.
• 12:21
Speaker 5: Because we're using fruits and vegetables, and yes, they can
• 12:24
Speaker 5: be frozen, they can be canned. It doesn't mean that
• 12:27
Speaker 5: you have to buy the premiere item from the produce section.
• 12:32
Speaker 5: There's so many ways to do it, and you don't
• 12:35
Speaker 5: have to buy the name brand. You can get an
• 12:38
Speaker 5: off brand because it's all made in the same factory anyway,
• 12:41
Speaker 5: they have a label room and people don't realize that.
• 12:45
Speaker 5: And so there is a way to incorporate proteins that
• 12:49
Speaker 5: can be a whole assortment of different kind of beans,
• 12:54
Speaker 5: and there are recipes for meatless meals for We have
• 12:58
Speaker 5: Mediterranean recipes and cookbooks that will help people, and it's
• 13:02
Speaker 5: a handholding process where we want to show you there's
• 13:05
Speaker 5: another way to do it. It doesn't have to be
• 13:08
Speaker 5: the most expensive beef or the most expensive fish. You
• 13:12
Speaker 5: can do it with cantuna. You can do it with
• 13:15
Speaker 5: sardines if that's something you like. That's not a requirement,
• 13:19
Speaker 5: but it's a choice. So happens that sardines are good
• 13:22
Speaker 5: for you because it's a darker fish, and people need
• 13:26
Speaker 5: to learn that. The more the better your choices. The
• 13:31
Speaker 5: more you learn and you feel great. You start feeling
• 13:35
Speaker 5: a way that you feel more. You just feel healthy
• 13:38
Speaker 5: and you don't even know what's causing it. And yes,
• 13:40
Speaker 5: if you look at the food that you eat, that
• 13:43
Speaker 5: is what's making the changes happen.
• 13:46
Speaker 3: All right, tell us where the meetings are again, When
• 13:47
  Speaker 3: and where we.
• 13:48
Speaker 5: Meet Thursday morning at ten o'clock. Eventually we will add
• 13:51
Speaker 5: some more meetings, but right now we're Thursday morning at ten.
• 13:54
Speaker 5: We're in the Prosperity Center, which is in the good
• 13:57
Speaker 5: Will building. It's right on the west side and it's
• 14:01
Speaker 5: just a beautiful place. The meeting rooms are till your
• 14:05
Speaker 5: mouth will drop open. They're beautiful and they are so
• 14:08
Speaker 5: kind and wonderful to us. In fact, all the members
• 14:11
Speaker 5: get free water, free coffee, and it's very exciting. So
• 14:15
Speaker 5: it's a warm and welcoming place. There's some parking on
• 14:18
Speaker 5: the street, a little bit of a parking lot, but
• 14:21
Speaker 5: not much. But you know, if you walk a half
• 14:23
Speaker 5: a block it's not going to hurt anybody. Not tomorrow,
• 14:26
Speaker 5: because it's going to be a little icy.
• 14:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, And is there a Facebook page or something?
• 14:29
Speaker 5: So there will be a new Facebook page appeering and
• 14:32
Speaker 5: it will be Mediterranean mindset. We had our Facebook page
• 14:36
Speaker 5: fixed fixed for fix it with foods, but then I decided.
• 14:40
Speaker 3: You know, that's a good idea because again it doesn't
• 14:42
Speaker 3: tell you exactly what it is. Yeah, Millie Snyder catchers
• 14:46
Speaker 3: soon on tour with the Eagles. I appreciate you being here,
• 14:48
  Speaker 3: Thanks a lot.
• 14:49
  Speaker 4: Thank you.
• 14:49

Speaker 3: Let us now check in with the President of Bridge Valley,

Speaker 3: doctor Casey Sachs. Doctor Sax, good morning, welcome to the.
• 17:54
  Speaker 2: Show, Dave.
• 17:55
Speaker 12: Great to be with you today.
• 17:57
Speaker 3: So what's the status of things of at Bridge Valley.
• 17:59
Speaker 3: This already on the snowy Wednesday the Tech.
• 18:02
Speaker 12: Park is doing an amazing job clearing the snow. They've
• 18:04
Speaker 12: been out there all morning.
• 18:06
Speaker 3: All right, So it's all systems ago up at Bridge
• 18:08
  Speaker 3: Valley today.
• 18:10
Speaker 12: Yep, we've got school going. One of the things that
• 18:13
Speaker 12: we use as a proxy is did the governor cancel
• 18:16
Speaker 12: state government? Since we're part of the executive branch and
• 18:19
  Speaker 12: they're open and.
• 18:19
Speaker 3: So are we all right? Well, we hope it stays that.
• 18:22
Speaker 3: What is actually going to get better, they say a
• 18:24
Speaker 3: little bit later before we go through all this again
• 18:26
Speaker 3: late tonight. But you're a Colorado person, this is nothing.
• 18:29
  Speaker 13: To you, right.
• 18:30
Speaker 12: It is true. When I moved to West Virginia, it
• 18:32
Speaker 12: was striking to me how little snow we could get
• 18:35
Speaker 12: here and still close things.
• 18:36
  Speaker 3: Oh yeah, well it's a different it's a different world,
• 18:39
Speaker 3: you know that. You know that, all right? So I
• 18:41
Speaker 3: want to give you some letters out there. Like an
• 18:44
Speaker 3: acronym that will strike it will strike fear into the
• 18:48
Speaker 3: hearts of parents and sometimes students, and that is FAFTSPA.
• 18:51
Speaker 3: Explain exactly what FAFSA is. It's in the news. It
• 18:54
Speaker 3: has been in the news over the last couple of
• 18:56
Speaker 3: years because I know you have some workshops coming on
• 18:59
Speaker 3: coming up at that, but talk about FASA for a moment.
• 19:02
  Speaker 9: We do.
• 19:02
  Speaker 3: So.
• 19:03
Speaker 12: The FASTA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
• 19:06
Speaker 12: It's a federal government form that allows students to get
• 19:10
Speaker 12: access to things like the pel Grant. The pelgrant gives
• 19:13
Speaker 12: students enough money that it would pay tuition for a
• 19:15
Speaker 12: full year a bridge valley for full time students, and
• 19:18
Speaker 12: so it's worth filling out the form. It's also how
• 19:21
Speaker 12: we determine state aid. So even if your family makes
• 19:24
Speaker 12: too much money to qualify for a federal pel grant,
• 19:27
Speaker 12: the state of West Virginia has really generous financial aid,
• 19:30
Speaker 12: especially at community colleges, and the state of West Virginia
• 19:34
Speaker 12: would pay the difference between what the federal government doesn't
• 19:37
Speaker 12: give you and what your balance on your tuition bill is.
• 19:40
Speaker 12: But you still have to fill out that FASTPA for it.
• 19:42
Speaker 12: So it's a form that's worth filling out, especially for
• 19:46
Speaker 12: West Virginia families. But it is it's a tax form,
• 19:49
Speaker 12: and I know for so many of us, tax forms
• 19:52
  Speaker 12: are pretty daunting.
• 19:53
Speaker 14: So we do workshops.
• 19:54
Speaker 12: We've got one the twenty fifth and one the twenty seventh.
• 19:56
Speaker 12: We just don't want anybody to feel like it's too
• 19:59
Speaker 12: overwhelming want to be able to help people.
• 20:01
Speaker 3: And when you have these workshops and again we're talking
• 20:03
Speaker 3: with doctor Casey Saxsonbridge Valley, what exactly I mean? You
• 20:05
Speaker 3: just set them down literally like any other workshop, and
• 20:07
Speaker 3: you just say this is how you fill this thing out.
• 20:10
Speaker 3: These are the questions because you probably get a list
• 20:11
Speaker 3: of FAQs, as we call them, frequently ask questions.
• 20:15
Speaker 12: Right, that's right, we have we do not some of
• 20:18
Speaker 12: the common mistakes that people make. There's a question right
• 20:21
Speaker 12: now at the bottom of the form because it's online
• 20:23
Speaker 12: that sometimes people don't see. It's really common that you
• 20:26
Speaker 12: don't see it. So if we have you at a
• 20:29
Speaker 12: computer in front of us, we can say, oh, did
• 20:31
Speaker 12: you see question fourteen. We know that's one that sometimes
• 20:33
Speaker 12: people skip because the form is kind of wonky.
• 20:37
Speaker 3: That's an official that's an official college term, right wonky?
• 20:41
  Speaker 12: Well for sure.
• 20:42
Speaker 3: From yeah, it can be it can be very it
• 20:44
Speaker 3: could be very difficult. Again, we're talking with doctor Casey
• 20:47
Speaker 3: Saxonbridge Valley. You spent a lot of time and we
• 20:49
Speaker 3: spend a lot of time because you sponsored the show
• 20:51
Speaker 3: talking about the WIN Academy. It's getting a lot of attention.
• 20:55
Speaker 3: This WIN Academy. For those that don't know, explain what
• 20:57
Speaker 3: it is, because the people in DC are looking at
• 20:59
Speaker 3: the you Win Academy it is.
• 21:01
Speaker 12: So we're so proud of our students. We have a
• 21:04
Speaker 12: charter high school here in West Virginia that's called the
• 21:06
Speaker 12: Win Academy. It's for students who are in eleventh and
• 21:09
Speaker 12: twelfth grade who are ready to do college classes. So
• 21:12
Speaker 12: it's completely voluntary. Your family can choose if you want
• 21:15
Speaker 12: this or not. And the kids who decide to come
• 21:18
Speaker 12: here want to go into nursing, want to go into
• 21:21
Speaker 12: advanced manufacturing technology, or already sort of thinking about fast
• 21:24
Speaker 12: tracking a career. And so what they do is they
• 21:27
Speaker 12: come and do college classes and they graduate from high
• 21:32
Speaker 12: school with a whole college transcript. So our goal really
• 21:34
Speaker 12: is to get people ramped up to be able to
• 21:36
Speaker 12: do associates degrees in high school. It's something that we've
• 21:40
Speaker 12: seen in other states and so we're really just replicating
• 21:42
Speaker 12: some best practices. But our students at everybody who graduated
• 21:46
Speaker 12: last year went on to college, and so we're seeing
• 21:49
Speaker 12: some incredible outcomes. And the National Governors Association this week
• 21:53
Speaker 12: is meeting with our dean for the WIN Academy to
• 21:56
Speaker 12: talk about what we're doing here in West Virginia and
• 21:58
Speaker 12: how to replicate it in other states.
• 22:00
Speaker 3: Isn't that cool when we get called to Washington and
• 22:04
Speaker 3: they ask us what you guys are doing? Right, because
• 22:07
Speaker 3: we don't often hear that sort of thing. It is
• 22:10
Speaker 3: nice that people are looking to West Virginia and saying,
• 22:13
Speaker 3: what are you folks doing because we want to replicate that,
• 22:15
Speaker 3: as you said, in our states.
• 22:17
Speaker 12: Yeah, it's really wonderful when you hear the governor of
• 22:19
Speaker 12: Indiana is curious about how we do this thing in
• 22:22
Speaker 12: West Virginia and how do they do it.
• 22:23
Speaker 3: That's real. It's good stuff. Doctor Casey Sachs is here
• 22:26
Speaker 3: a Bridge Valley. Older adults should protect themselves against severe
• 22:28
Speaker 3: respiratory disease. Talk to your doctor about flu, COVID nineteen

• 22:37
Speaker 3: and Human Services. You're also, I understand, a good doctor
• 22:40
Speaker 3: doing some hiring up there on the hill for instructors, right.
• 22:45
Speaker 12: We are almost always looking for people who are in
• 22:47
Speaker 12: the skilled trades, but in particular, if you are alignment
• 22:51
Speaker 12: and you're sick of traveling. We would love to talk
• 22:53
Speaker 12: to you. We really are looking for somebody to run
• 22:57
Speaker 12: an automotive technology program. Several of our car dealers in
• 23:00
Speaker 12: the area are really excited about this one and we
• 23:03
Speaker 12: need we need the right person who wants to be
• 23:05
Speaker 12: in charge of it. Welding, We're always looking for folks
• 23:08
Speaker 12: in welding and in HVAC. So even if you only
• 23:11
Speaker 12: want to teach one class, we would love to have you.
• 23:14
Speaker 12: And you don't have to have a bachelor's degree. What
• 23:17
Speaker 12: you need is the industry experience because that's what's really
• 23:19
Speaker 12: most important to help train other people.
• 23:21
Speaker 3: That's awesome, I mean it really really is. And you're
• 23:23
Speaker 3: talking about the travel of linement. I actually met I
• 23:25
Speaker 3: was doing a live broadcast at one of our sister
• 23:27
Speaker 3: stations from a car dealership a couple of months ago,
• 23:30
Speaker 3: and I met a lineman who is originally from this
• 23:32
Speaker 3: area but was buying the process of buying the truck
• 23:37
Speaker 3: because he was getting ready to make the drive to
• 23:39
Speaker 3: New Mexico and he and he frequently he doesn't go
• 23:43
Speaker 3: home every night, obviously, but but but he makes that trip.
• 23:46
Speaker 9: He was a young guy.
• 23:47
Speaker 3: He's making great money and he can handle it now
• 23:49
Speaker 3: but there's going to come a time when those folks
• 23:51
Speaker 3: are going to say I'm tired of firing up the
• 23:54
Speaker 3: Silverado and driving to New Mexico.
• 23:57
Speaker 12: That's right, And I mean when you have kids and
• 24:00
Speaker 12: you've decided that you just want your life to be different,
• 24:02
Speaker 12: We're an amazing place to work. You know, it's a
• 24:04
Speaker 12: nine month contract, you have the summers off, you get
• 24:07
Speaker 12: vacations that kids get from school. So it's I mean,
• 24:10
Speaker 12: there are some real benefits where it is a really
• 24:13
Speaker 12: nice place to work.
• 24:14
Speaker 3: And before we let you go, and you know, one
• 24:15
Speaker 3: of the many thing it's kind of talks that kind
• 24:18
Speaker 3: of lends itself to what we were talking about earlier.
• 24:20
Speaker 3: One of the many things that I like about Bridge
• 24:22
Speaker 3: Valley is that you're willing to work with local employers
• 24:26
Speaker 3: to give them the types of employees that they need.
• 24:29
Speaker 3: And you've heard me talk about it for so long. Universities,
• 24:32
Speaker 3: trade schools, whatever, we're just putting out people and saying hey,
• 24:35
Speaker 3: go find a job. Well, somebody got the bright idea
• 24:37
Speaker 3: and other institutions do it well as well. To meet
• 24:40
Speaker 3: with these local employers and say, Okay, what is it
• 24:43
Speaker 3: that you need and how can we how can we
• 24:47
Speaker 3: help you out with your workforce. And I say that
• 24:49
Speaker 3: because I know you're doing all sorts of customized stuff,
• 24:52
Speaker 3: and especially in the medical field places like WVU Medicine,
• 24:55
Speaker 3: Thomas Hospital, et cetera.
• 24:57
Speaker 12: That's right. We love doing what we call customer industry training.
• 25:01
Speaker 12: If you're a business owner and you need somebody who's
• 25:04
Speaker 12: your current employeed upskill, we would love to talk to
• 25:07
Speaker 12: you about what that upskilling needs to look like. It's
• 25:09
Speaker 12: really fun for us to get to do that, and
• 25:11
Speaker 12: I think you're exactly right. A current example is that
• 25:14
Speaker 12: WVU Medicine Thomas Hospital has six staff members who they're
• 25:18
Speaker 12: sending through a rad tech program with us in the
• 25:20
Speaker 12: fall that we've developed around what they've said they needed
• 25:24
Speaker 12: because they have good staff who they really want to
• 25:27
Speaker 12: keep and they really want to promote, but they need
• 25:29
Speaker 12: a new skill set.
• 25:30
Speaker 3: All right, doctor Sachs. Always a lot of exciting stuff
• 25:33
Speaker 3: going on out there at Bridge Valley. I appreciate you
• 25:36
Speaker 3: being here and we'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot,
• 25:39
Speaker 3: great to talk to you, Thanks Dave, Doctor Casey Sachs
• 25:42
Speaker 3: of Bridge Valley. It is twenty seven minutes away from ten.
• 25:46
Speaker 3: I love what they're doing out there. Like I said,
• 25:47
Speaker 3: I mean, you know there for so many years when
• 25:50
Speaker 3: I was in college, you know, seventy years ago, it
• 25:52
Speaker 3: was like we we give you a diploma and we send.
• 25:54
Speaker 11: You on your way.
• 25:55
Speaker 3: And they're actually somebody in the institutions of hire and learning.
• 25:59
Speaker 3: Not just Bridge Valley, there are others doing this as well.
• 26:01
Speaker 3: Said you know, we need to we need to create
• 26:04
Speaker 3: the kind of employees that employers want. And they sat
• 26:08
Speaker 3: down and said, what is it that you need. I
• 26:11
Speaker 3: think that's pretty good stuff, right, And as far as
• 26:13
Speaker 3: the hiring of the instructors don't have to have a
• 26:15
Speaker 3: bachelor's degree. I mean they just want your industry experience
• 26:18
Speaker 3: to be able to teach these things like linemen and
• 26:21
Speaker 3: the other things that they do up there. It's good stuff,
• 26:23
Speaker 3: it really And I love the fact that other states
• 26:26
Speaker 3: are looking to West Virginia and saying, how is it
• 26:28
Speaker 3: that you are doing things there that's kind of stuff
• 26:31

Speaker 3: last week, by the name of Karen Atkins. I will
• 30:36
Speaker 3: let her tell the story, but it starts in a
• 30:39
Speaker 3: hospital room, or maybe a medical facility would be a
• 30:42
Speaker 3: more accurate way to put it. Karen, good morning, Welcome
• 30:45
  Speaker 3: to the show.
• 30:46
Speaker 7: Good morning, how are you.
• 30:48
Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. Thank you for being here, and I
• 30:49
Speaker 3: will let you tell your story that you told me
• 30:53
Speaker 3: on the phone, because no one can tell a story
• 30:55
Speaker 3: like the individual that had happened to So talk about
• 30:58
Speaker 3: what you're doing and talk talk about how you started
• 31:01
Speaker 3: this wonderful thing. Go ahead, Thank you.
• 31:05
Speaker 7: I started an Airbnb a couple of years ago because
• 31:10
Speaker 7: I guess was actually twenty thirteen. My husband of ten
• 31:13
Speaker 7: years had a serious illness that landed us in the
• 31:19
Speaker 7: OSU Medical Facility that's in Columbus, Ohio, and I was
• 31:24
Speaker 7: there for over three weeks in a hotel room and
• 31:28
Speaker 7: thanked the lord for the support I've had, But it
• 31:31
Speaker 7: was very hard being in that one room. The refrigerator
• 31:34
Speaker 7: was there in the microwave, but other than that, I
• 31:36
Speaker 7: had to buy everything if I needed catch up or
• 31:38
Speaker 7: I needed mustard or need to have for a hot dog,
• 31:41
Speaker 7: and I bought out. I needed everything to be comfortable
• 31:44
Speaker 7: while I had to stay there, couldn't leave, basically stadium
• 31:47
Speaker 7: in the hotel the whole three weeks. So I had
• 31:50
Speaker 7: not heard about the airbnb movement. I live a shelter
• 31:53
Speaker 7: life here, so when I heard about it, I thought man.
• 31:56
Speaker 7: In fact, I had an Airbnb when I was in Columbus.
• 31:59
Speaker 7: How much easier it would have been the function for
• 32:02
Speaker 7: those three weeks. So I got home and I started
• 32:05
Speaker 7: thinking about it, praying about it, and I finally decided
• 32:08
Speaker 7: the Lord wants me to do an Airbnb to service
• 32:10
Speaker 7: people that are coming to Charleston. You know, we have
• 32:12
Speaker 7: the biggest hospitals around and they're all within probably ten
• 32:16
Speaker 7: miles of my place. So I thought, well, I've just
• 32:20
Speaker 7: opened this and cater to the hospital visitors who have
• 32:24
Speaker 7: to come down from Elkins or someplace far away to
• 32:27
Speaker 7: have a loved one in the hospital for hospice reasons
• 32:30
Speaker 7: or for a major surgery, and I would be able
• 32:33
Speaker 7: to serve them and for a lot cheaper than they
• 32:36
Speaker 7: would have for a hotel room. And we have all
• 32:38
Speaker 7: the comforts of home. We even lease nikes, and water
• 32:42
Speaker 7: and the coffee and the salt of the pepper and
• 32:43
Speaker 7: the mustard and the ketchup and all that stuff is
• 32:46
Speaker 7: usually there, depending on how much traffic I've had. But
• 32:49
Speaker 7: it would have been such a blessing for me to
• 32:51
Speaker 7: have had that. And I know how difficult it is
• 32:53
Speaker 7: to have a loved one in the hospital that you
• 32:55
Speaker 7: have to run back and forth for many many miles
• 32:58
Speaker 7: and have to come back every day. The time, energy
• 33:00
Speaker 7: and money involved, and so that's why I started a
• 33:03
Speaker 7: Blessed Place to Rest in Eltfview, West Virgin m Yeah.
• 33:06
Speaker 3: I want to talk about the name because I've got
• 33:08
Speaker 3: I got your graphic off of your Facebook page when
• 33:11
Speaker 3: I did my preview that I do for the show.
• 33:13
Speaker 3: I put it up there, like the I like the
• 33:15
Speaker 3: spelling that you use there too. Talk about how you
• 33:19
Speaker 3: you came up with that name, and then talk about
• 33:21
Speaker 3: the location again. You said, oh of you, But let's
• 33:23
Speaker 3: get specific. I'll talk about the name first.
• 33:25
Speaker 7: Okay, the name is everything I do. I want to
• 33:29
Speaker 7: be able to bless people with it, and bless is
• 33:34
Speaker 7: one of my favorite words. My other favorite word is grateful.
• 33:37
Speaker 7: So with that in mind, thinking about what would I
• 33:39
Speaker 7: call it, what's the purpose of it? And I wanted
• 33:42
Speaker 7: to have a place that could rest from a weary
• 33:44
Speaker 7: trip or a weary drama situation, trauma situation, and I
• 33:49
Speaker 7: don't know, I guess kind of. The Lord just gave
• 33:51
Speaker 7: it to me, and then I didn't think about the
• 33:53
  Speaker 7: B L S T part until I was at the
• 33:55
Speaker 7: small business getting my license, and so he said, how
• 33:59
  Speaker 7: do you spell me? Is b L E s T
• 34:01
  Speaker 7: or b L E S s D. And I said
• 34:04
  Speaker 7: that's an I didn't. Let's just make it b L
• 34:06
  Speaker 7: E s T. So that's both good and bad. Some
• 34:08
  Speaker 7: people look online for b L E S s D
• 34:11
  Speaker 7: and it ain't there. It's a bless So that's how
• 34:14
Speaker 7: I came up with a name. And then it's located.
• 34:18
Speaker 7: If you're familiar with one nineteen, it's right off one
• 34:21
Speaker 7: nineteen on the left side of the road. You dart
• 34:25
Speaker 7: off the road and there it is, so you don't
• 34:27
Speaker 7: have to go up any haulers or hills or anything.
• 34:29
Speaker 3: It's especially important with the winner that we've had. We're
• 34:32
Speaker 3: we're talking to Karen Atkins the Dave Allen showing five
• 34:35
Speaker 3: Any Life brought to you in part by Husbands Pizza

• 34:45

• 34:47
Speaker 3: realize I didn't invite you on just to push your
• 34:49
Speaker 3: Airbnb per se. You can buy radio time for that.
• 34:52
Speaker 3: But I wanted to talk about the whole concept of
• 34:54
Speaker 3: this and what a great thing that it is, and
• 34:58
Speaker 3: how you could share this with other people, because obviously, Karen,
• 35:01
Speaker 3: you you got this idea, as you said, based on
• 35:04
Speaker 3: your own experience and what you went through.
• 35:08
Speaker 7: Right, right, And I've had other experiences my mom this
• 35:12
Speaker 7: My mom was in the hospital probably twelve fifteen years ago,
• 35:14
Speaker 7: and things have changed, you know, with I think camc
• 35:17
Speaker 7: does have a place now that people can stay. But
• 35:19
Speaker 7: back in the day, my brother and sister in law
• 35:21
Speaker 7: had to travel to Charleston and she's allergic to cats
• 35:25
Speaker 7: and I had cats, so they had to get a motel.
• 35:27
Speaker 7: So we called the Ronald McDonald house and they said,
• 35:30
Speaker 7: is it a child in the hospital, And I said, no,
• 35:32
Speaker 7: it's my mother, And they said no, we can only
• 35:34
Speaker 7: put up parents of children in the Ronald McDonald house.
• 35:38
Speaker 7: So you know, of course we bit the bullet and
• 35:40
Speaker 7: paid the hotel room or whatever we had to do
• 35:41
Speaker 7: back then, I do not remember, but so now you know,
• 35:45
Speaker 7: having been through that was moms having to run even
• 35:48
Speaker 7: thirty miles every day to get there with her. It
• 35:51
Speaker 7: was just a lot of time in her gym money
• 35:54
Speaker 7: and so to be able to be almost on site
• 35:57
Speaker 7: that something goes on. When I was in Oe Shoe,
• 36:00
Speaker 7: that call me all hours of the night and day
• 36:02
Speaker 7: saying can we do this to Steve? Can we do
• 36:04
Speaker 7: that to Steve? And I had to go in a
• 36:06
Speaker 7: few times and sign papers for them to do it.
• 36:08
Speaker 7: He's in heaven by the way, but anyway, so it
• 36:11
Speaker 7: was just so much money and it wasn't in my budget.
• 36:15
Speaker 7: I didn't anticipate him getting a serious illness and being
• 36:18
Speaker 7: an no issue for those three weeks. So that's my
• 36:20
Speaker 7: concerns and help people. You know, back in the day,
• 36:23
Speaker 7: I did not have as much money as I do now.
• 36:25
Speaker 7: Thank god I have a little better income. I'm retired
• 36:27
Speaker 7: and I get my disability. But back in that day,
• 36:31
Speaker 7: money was tight. And you know, so when you go
• 36:33
Speaker 7: out and eat, every time you eat five or ten dollars,
• 36:35
Speaker 7: back in that day, it's expensive. Plus the just being
• 36:39
Speaker 7: so far away and having to find a way there
• 36:41
Speaker 7: and stuff, it was quite traumatic.
• 36:43
Speaker 3: We got a text here to the show somebody listening
• 36:45
Speaker 3: to the interview kreen It says that they have owned
• 36:47
Speaker 3: an airbnb for about five years now, fully furnished two bedroom.
• 36:50
Speaker 3: Point is the texture says talking about you that she
• 36:53
Speaker 3: mentioned the hospitals. Literally, ninety five percent of my tenants
• 36:57
Speaker 3: are traveling nurses and it's hardly ever empty. Do you
• 37:00
Speaker 3: offer this? I know you want to focus because this
• 37:03
Speaker 3: of your experience with your late husband, but would you
• 37:05
Speaker 3: would you be willing to offer this also for folks
• 37:07
Speaker 3: that are our nurses or things of that nature, anything
• 37:10
Speaker 3: with the medical field.
• 37:13
Speaker 7: Potentially, you know, I want to. I want to make sure.
• 37:17
Speaker 7: And the only problem with that is, you know, my
• 37:19
Speaker 7: first desire is to minister, is to service. My second
• 37:22
Speaker 7: desire is to get some money for the place, because
• 37:24
Speaker 7: it's not good for it to set in to gotcha.
• 37:26
  Speaker 3: Gotcha.
• 37:27
Speaker 7: So I've been asked about that before. I've never done
• 37:31
Speaker 7: much advertisement because I'm legally blind for one thing, and
• 37:34
Speaker 7: I don't do a lot of stuff anymore on my computer.
• 37:37
Speaker 7: But yes, I would entertain that, probably at least until
• 37:40
Speaker 7: I get going with some people. Yeah, yeah, I.
• 37:43
Speaker 3: Mean, and that's wonderful. I think that that you're doing this,
• 37:46
Speaker 3: and you know, and I spend in Karen, and I
• 37:48
Speaker 3: know you listened to the show, but I spend this
• 37:50
Speaker 3: a lot of time. And I'll get back to politics
• 37:52
Speaker 3: here for a moment. For people that are blowing me
• 37:54
Speaker 3: up over politics. But every now and then you got
• 37:56
Speaker 3: to have a good story, you know what I mean.
• 37:58
Speaker 3: And when you told me about this, I thought that
• 38:00
Speaker 3: this was a wonderful, wonderful story. And you asked me
• 38:03
Speaker 3: if you could come on. I said absolutely, We'll make.
• 38:05
  Speaker 13: Time for you.
• 38:06
Speaker 3: Where can people again, give out the website, the what
• 38:11
Speaker 3: you got Facebook, whatever, the direction, give us all of
• 38:13
  Speaker 3: the pertinent information.
• 38:16
Speaker 7: Okay. I am on the Airbnb dot com site, so
• 38:20
Speaker 7: you can search by Google or search at the Airbnb
• 38:24
Speaker 7: dot com site. And my place is called a Blessed
• 38:29

• 38:48

Speaker 7: and it's not. This is just like between it's like

• 38:56
Speaker 3: It'd be. It's yeah, and very very convenient for those
• 39:00
Speaker 3: that you're aiming at, Karen, which is those that are
• 39:02
Speaker 3: staying in our local hospitals. Karen, it's been a pleasure
• 39:05
Speaker 3: to have you on the show. We wish you the
• 39:07
Speaker 3: best with everything. We'll talk again soon. Thanks a lot,
• 39:10
Speaker 3: Thank you, all right, Karen Adkins. Again, I just thought
• 39:12
Speaker 3: it was a good story. I mean, every now and
• 39:14
Speaker 3: then you got to have a good story, and this
• 39:18
Speaker 3: time of upheaval that we have these days. And she
• 39:21
Speaker 3: reached out to me and she listened to the show
• 39:23
Speaker 3: and she said, I'd love to come on to talk
• 39:25
Speaker 3: about it. And I said, I think it's great because
• 39:27
Speaker 3: we have all known folks that have gone through that
• 39:30
Speaker 3: they have a loved one that's staying in a hospital facility,
• 39:32
Speaker 3: and you know, and it could be in the end,
• 39:35
Speaker 3: like she said, people coming in from out of town.
• 39:37
Speaker 3: They're coming in from out of state with elderly parents,
• 39:39
Speaker 3: you know. And it's just just a great thing that
• 39:42
Speaker 3: she didn't If she can make a little money on it,
• 39:44
Speaker 3: so be it. But I get the idea in talking
• 39:47
Speaker 3: to Karen that it's not all about the money. That's
• 39:50
Speaker 3: kind of the idea I got. The Dave Island Showing

• 44:01
Speaker 3: on the program this morning. She's such a jewel and
• 44:04
Speaker 3: a blessing and one tough lady, says a texture quickly
• 44:08
Speaker 3: to the weather. I said yesterday, I didn't want to
• 44:10
Speaker 3: talk to Brian Hughes again until we got a time,
• 44:12
Speaker 3: and I'm going to hold it that. I will say
• 44:14
Speaker 3: that when I left my house in Tays Valley a
• 44:18
Speaker 3: little earlier this morning to what I normally do, wanted
• 44:20
Speaker 3: to kind of get a jump on, and I got
• 44:22
Speaker 3: sixty four coming into Charleston from Tays, I thought, yeah,
• 44:25
Speaker 3: maybe I should have waited until daylight. It's not that
• 44:28
Speaker 3: there's a lot of snow, as I said earlier out there,
• 44:30
Speaker 3: but it's the very light variety, and with temperatures as
• 44:33
Speaker 3: low as they are, then I'm going to get a
• 44:34
Speaker 3: whole lot warmer. Plowing and salting really can only do
• 44:39
Speaker 3: so much now. Schools, of course, and Canel Putnam ended
• 44:43
Speaker 3: up canceling today. Probably. I don't want to predict anything
• 44:46
Speaker 3: because I don't know what will happen, but I guarantee
• 44:48
Speaker 3: you there'll be something different with school schedules tomorrow. It
• 44:52
Speaker 3: looks like we are going to get a break into
• 44:53
Speaker 3: snow this afternoon before another round comes in tonight. Not
• 44:57
Speaker 3: a lot of accumulation, but it doesn't take a lot,
• 45:00
Speaker 3: and the snow we have isn't going to be going anywhere.
• 45:04
Speaker 3: We may finally, though, finally warm up for a substantial
• 45:08
Speaker 3: amount of time. But whether folks say, don't get used
• 45:11
Speaker 3: to it, as we can have and have had many
• 45:14
Speaker 3: major snows in the past in March and even April,
• 45:17
Speaker 3: so buckle up. I do think we do the time
• 45:20
Speaker 3: change thing here in a couple of weeks though, So
• 45:22
Speaker 3: that is good news. Texas. Enjoying your program today, Well,
• 45:25
Speaker 3: thank you very much. I appreciate it. Yeah, I gots Texas.
• 45:30
Speaker 3: Dave On SBA fifty one, Senator Jay Taylor and conservative
• 45:35
Speaker 3: politicians need to go to every school in the state
• 45:37
Speaker 3: and tell those girls that if they are raped, then
• 45:39
Speaker 3: they are forced to bring that child to birth. Let
• 45:42
Speaker 3: those girls see who will be forcing them to birth
• 45:44
Speaker 3: non consensually conceived children. Also, conservative mothers and fathers need
• 45:49
Speaker 3: to look at their daughters and tell them the same thing.
• 45:50
Speaker 3: God weeps at this ignorance that is in reference to
• 45:55
Speaker 3: and I appreciate the text for pointing that out SB
• 45:58
Speaker 3: fifty one that I first first learned about yesterday, and
• 46:03
Speaker 3: then maybe when we talked to Wilson and Meadows, we'll
• 46:05
Speaker 3: get a little update on that. It was presented, as
• 46:07
Speaker 3: I understand by Senator j. Taylor, and if I'm wrong,
• 46:10
Speaker 3: I don't have all the particulars in front of me
• 46:12
Speaker 3: right now, but basically they wanted to remove the incest
• 46:15
  Speaker 3: and rape.
• 46:18
  Speaker 11: Amendments.
• 46:19
Speaker 3: Not the right word that part of the abortion bill
• 46:22
Speaker 3: uh in in West Virginia. I just don't. I got nothing, tex,
• 46:28
Speaker 3: says Dave. If you heard the Ten Commandments bill going
• 46:31
Speaker 3: around the legislature. I fully supported the Ten Commandments in
• 46:34
Speaker 3: school because that opens the door to the Seven Tenants
• 46:37
Speaker 3: of the Satanic Temple to be put alongside it. The
• 46:40
Speaker 3: Seven Tenants are real guidelines that children need as a texture.
• 46:44
Speaker 3: I got TJ standing by, We're gonna go to him
• 46:46
Speaker 3: just a couple of well, actually, let's go ahead and
• 46:48
Speaker 3: go to it now. All right, this is this the
• 46:51
Speaker 3: TJ Meadows live at the Capitol.
• 46:53
  Speaker 13: I don't know if i'd say D, but it's D.
• 46:55
Speaker 13: Dave Wilson's over here beside me too. Well, let him
• 46:57
Speaker 13: put V in front of his that's the only TJ
• 47:00
  Speaker 13: I know.
• 47:00
Speaker 3: How's that? Okay, Well, that's fine, And Dave Wilson, I think,
• 47:03
Speaker 3: is there as well. So let's start about talking about
• 47:07
Speaker 3: this now. We'll talk about this SB fifty one. Texter
• 47:10
Speaker 3: brought it up Senator J Taylor about this removing the
• 47:13
Speaker 3: part if I understand it's correctly, removing the part about
• 47:16
Speaker 3: rapid incests from the already restrictive abortion law in West Virginia.
• 47:20
  Speaker 3: What say you?
• 47:22
Speaker 6: Well, what did you want to go ahead and tell
• 47:23
Speaker 6: him Bill? There's oh, yeah, that bill may be getting pulled. Okay, Okay,
• 47:29
Speaker 6: we just haven't confirmed that, but we were told this
• 47:32
Speaker 6: morning that bill may be getting pulled.
• 47:33
  Speaker 13: Yeah, so I can read. There's a an X post
• 47:38
Speaker 13: that is from our good friend Amelia Nicely, and she
• 47:41
Speaker 13: has a written release that appears to be from the senator.
• 47:44
Speaker 13: He announces the withdrawal of Senate Bill fifty one, which
• 47:48
Speaker 13: I originally introduced with the intention of protecting the lives
• 47:50
Speaker 13: of them board children. I've always believed that life begins
• 47:53
Speaker 13: at conception, and this belief guided my decision to support
• 47:56
Speaker 13: this bill for several years. However, I recognize now that
• 48:00
Speaker 13: we're introducing the bill this year was a mistake, particularly
• 48:04
Speaker 13: given its unrealistic path forward. I've put out on my
• 48:07
Speaker 13: ex as well that goes on a bit and folks
• 48:09
Speaker 13: can read it for themselves, but it would appear nothing
• 48:12
Speaker 13: official in the system yet, but it would appear he
• 48:14
Speaker 13: plans to withdraw that bill.
• 48:16
Speaker 3: All right, you heard it here first. You heard it
• 48:19
Speaker 3: here first? And what else will we hear first? On
• 48:22
Speaker 3: the Big Show from the Capitol today, guys.
• 48:25
Speaker 17: Well coming up a ten oh six, lore Wakem Chapman
• 48:27
Speaker 17: will join us. She is the Ohio County Senator and
• 48:30
Speaker 17: chair of the Senate Health Committee. We'll talk about the
• 48:33
Speaker 17: vaccine exemption bill, which was scheduled for a third reading today.
• 48:37
Speaker 17: We're also hearing that is going to get bumped till
• 48:39
Speaker 17: tomorrow for a third reading and passage. But we'll talk
• 48:43
Speaker 17: about the bill. She is obviously in favor of it.
• 48:46
Speaker 17: A little bit later on Rupy Phillips stops by from
• 48:50
Speaker 17: you your area, Dave, that's my boy, and Yeah, that's
• 48:53
Speaker 17: your guy. We'll talk to him about the bill.
• 48:56
  Speaker 9: TJ.
• 48:56
Speaker 17: You can explain this a little bit better than I can,
• 48:58
Speaker 17: but it would change. It would pull tax breaks for windmills.
• 49:02
Speaker 13: Correct, So we currently assess those at salvage value, meaning
• 49:05
Speaker 13: whatever they would be worth when they're fully depreciated. That's
• 49:08
Speaker 13: the tax basis. What this would do is pull that
• 49:11
Speaker 13: provision and tax these at full value, so essentially taking
• 49:14
Speaker 13: a taxi set of a way. And the argument is
• 49:16
Speaker 13: that that would increase the cost of energy that is
• 49:19
Speaker 13: produced from those assets.
• 49:20
Speaker 17: So right, talk to him about that bill. Jeff Jenkins
• 49:23
Speaker 17: will have the latest on the flooding and now they're
• 49:26
Speaker 17: having to deal with snow on top of that. Down
• 49:28
Speaker 17: in mcdowll Mingo County is Brad Macklehenning stops by with
• 49:31
Speaker 17: his report, and Eli Bombwell with the ACLU of West
• 49:35
Speaker 17: Virginia will stop by the desk as well.
• 49:37
Speaker 3: What's on the acl used mind all the above.
• 49:41
  Speaker 17: Usually it is a c l U day at the
• 49:44
Speaker 17: capitol and they're going to be here, so we'll find
• 49:46
Speaker 17: out what the ACLU is thinking about.
• 49:49
Speaker 13: So, mister Allen, I'll circle back to this. I'm reading
• 49:51
Speaker 13: through this as we get at its live radio. Second
• 49:54
Speaker 13: paragraph I think is important on this with this release
• 49:57
Speaker 13: from Jay Taylor, he said, I sincerely oologize to my
• 50:00
Speaker 13: friends and supporters whom I may have offended with this action.
• 50:03
Speaker 13: It was never my intent to cause distress, and I
• 50:06
Speaker 13: regret any unintended harm my actions may have caused. Recently,
• 50:11
Speaker 13: I have been the recipient of numerous communications, some of
• 50:14
Speaker 13: which have involved threats directed towards my family. This situation
• 50:18
Speaker 13: has deeply disturbed me, and I hope that withdrawing the bill,
• 50:22
Speaker 13: alongside with my genuine apology will help reduce tensions.
• 50:26
  Speaker 3: Well, I mean, like I I disagree wholeheartedly with what's
• 50:31
Speaker 3: what the senator was bringing up, but you cross another
• 50:34
Speaker 3: line when you start threatening people's families and things of
• 50:37
Speaker 3: that nature. And I know I've heard people say, well,
• 50:39
Speaker 3: that's what you sign up for. No, hell no, that's
• 50:41
Speaker 3: not what you sign up for. And so, I, while
• 50:43
Speaker 3: I disagree wholeheartedly with what he was putting out there, yeah,
• 50:48
Speaker 3: that's that takes another level. So that's not cool if
• 50:51
Speaker 3: that happened, and I have no reason to believe it didn't.
• 50:54
Speaker 3: All right, guys, I appreciate it. We'll be listening coming
• 50:56
Speaker 3: up with ten oh six. How's that all right?
• 50:58
Speaker 4: I thought we'd take it easy when it is well.
• 51:00
Speaker 3: I was gonna say, yeah, go back and listen to
• 51:01
Speaker 3: yesterday's show, and I had one of the sales weasels
• 51:03
Speaker 3: committed buildings. So I thought you and Wilson were gonna
• 51:05
Speaker 3: fight there. I said, no, no, no, we're actually actually
• 51:09
Speaker 3: good for us. Us Marshall, people have to stick together
• 51:12
Speaker 3: in this company. With Matt Murphy across the hall, we
• 51:14
Speaker 3: gotta and uh we we gotta stick together.
• 51:17
  Speaker 4: Guys.
• 51:17
Speaker 17: We've got we got Morgan over in the newsroom. Now, okay,
• 51:20
Speaker 17: we're making some problem making some progress.
• 51:22
Speaker 3: All right. We're about five percent right now.
• 51:24
Speaker 13: So this is an interesting case study, all right. He
• 51:26
Speaker 13: all the time refers to these people as sales weasels,
• 51:29
Speaker 13: and it just endures them more.
• 51:31
  Speaker 14: To mill understand.
• 51:33
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well it's I picked that up a long
• 51:36
Speaker 3: time ago, you know, in radio. I don't know from who,
• 51:38
Speaker 3: but yep, guys, will check in with ten o six.
• 51:40
Speaker 3: Thanks a lot, all right, all right, my thanks to
• 51:42
Speaker 3: all the guests on the show today, Matt guitar Murphy
• 51:44
Speaker 3: for producing the show as well. Again, I will not
• 51:47
Speaker 3: be here tomorrow. I have some stuff I gotta take
• 51:49
  Speaker 3: care of. Amanda Baron from w o w K TV
• 51:53
Speaker 3: thirteen will be in the host chair along with Dale
• 51:55
Speaker 3: Cooper tomorrow. I do know that she will have with
• 51:58
Speaker 3: her kanawk Aunty Commissioner Land Wheeler and some other guests
• 52:02
Speaker 3: on the show coming up tomorrow. I'll be back on Friday.
• 52:06
Speaker 3: If you haven't already done so, download the WVRC Media

Speaker 3: easy on the roads. I'll see you Friday, so all
• 52:17
Speaker 3: then have fun. I love somebody
