- 0:18Speaker 1: Return to glory. I think we can actually say that
- 0:23Speaker 1: we're on our way.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Well even won.
- 0:27Speaker 1: That might be overstepping it a little bit, but we're
- 0:30Speaker 1: five and one. Braska's five and one Beaten Ruggers fourteen seven.
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm Hunter Zarbernikki Austin Rose. To go to free tag
- 0:38Speaker 1: or turn to Glory podcast. I haven't said this in
- 0:41Speaker 1: a while. We're live on not live, I guess. But
- 0:43Speaker 1: you can watch us on YouTube if you want to watch.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I think we're figuring out that maybe people still like
- 0:48Speaker 1: to listen to podcasts. I do too. That's totally okay.
- 0:51Speaker 1: But we are out there on YouTube if you want
- 0:53Speaker 1: to watch, and also still able to listen on all
- 0:57Speaker 1: the platforms, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google, whatever else is out there.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We are there, Nebraska. It's five and one. Regardless of
- 1:07Speaker 1: how the game goes and what people say, that is
- 1:11Speaker 1: what's most important. That was what was on my mind
- 1:14Speaker 1: the whole time after the game. I don't care, and
- 1:17Speaker 1: there's gonna be things that everybody talks about because that's
- 1:19Speaker 1: what we do. We're five and one, and we have
- 1:22Speaker 1: been five and one. I think I saw ten times
- 1:25Speaker 1: since two thousand and only two times in the last
- 1:29Speaker 1: ten years, five and one are better.
- 1:35Speaker 2: It was pretty good.
- 1:36Speaker 3: I I agree it wasn't the prettiest, but who cares
- 1:41Speaker 3: we won? We don't, and you know that's gonna be
- 1:44Speaker 3: an argument on how good recorders are not.
- 1:46Speaker 2: We don't know. We don't know.
- 1:47Speaker 3: I feel, you know, if people start breaking down our wins,
- 1:49Speaker 3: we really don't know if any of the teams would
- 1:51Speaker 3: beat our good but they might also not be bad.
- 1:54Speaker 3: It kind of looks like Colorado might be better than
- 1:56Speaker 3: we thought. Illino it might be worse than we thought.
- 1:58Speaker 3: But yeah, how pleasant to be five and one in
- 2:02Speaker 3: one game away from balligibility already. Although you can't, this
- 2:08Speaker 3: is what was expected, right Dak.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah you can't.
- 2:15Speaker 5: I think the win factor into that game a lot
- 2:17Speaker 5: more than what people think with the passing game and stuff.
- 2:20Speaker 5: It was super windy out and yeah, that wasn't pretty,
- 2:23Speaker 5: But you can't complain about a win, especially the last
- 2:25Speaker 5: ten years have been right, and once out of the
- 2:29Speaker 5: ball at great ones side of the ball didn't. That's
- 2:31Speaker 5: basically the name of the game right there.
- 2:34Speaker 1: I think that's the point, though, I mean, are these
- 2:39Speaker 1: teams good or not actually good? I don't know, I
- 2:42Speaker 1: really I don't. I don't care at this point. We
- 2:44Speaker 1: have struggled to beat anybody right the past few years.
- 2:47Speaker 1: So I guess if you are thinking about it in
- 2:49Speaker 1: terms of expectation of going seven to zero and you know,
- 2:55Speaker 1: dominating these teams, maybe, but I didn't think we were
- 3:00Speaker 1: going to go seven to zero. I still think six
- 3:02Speaker 1: and one was is gonna be good and that possibilities
- 3:06Speaker 1: is there. Now you talk about ugly wins or whatever
- 3:11Speaker 1: that means, I don't know. I mean maybe it was ugly,
- 3:15Speaker 1: but it went where we got a lead, and yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 1: you don't want to say we were playing not to lose,
- 3:23Speaker 1: But at the same time, I just felt we were
- 3:25Speaker 1: playing smarter the whole game once we got that lead,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and that that game, most more importantly than any is
- 3:32Speaker 1: getting a lead against ruggers. Because a team like that,
- 3:34Speaker 1: they get a lead on you, you're in trouble. And
- 3:39Speaker 1: Dak you said it the wind, Shiano said a post
- 3:41Speaker 1: game press conference, like he has never seen a game
- 3:47Speaker 1: or played a game like that that wasn't in it
- 3:49Speaker 1: like a monsoon or a blizzard. It's just weird. It
- 3:53Speaker 1: was hot, but the wind was out of the north.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Are you guys vote at the game.
- 3:59Speaker 4: No, I like tailgate slug my dick off.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it was somewhat windy. I wouldn't say you could
- 4:09Speaker 1: where you're sitting in the crowd. It didn't feel like
- 4:11Speaker 1: it was horrible, but you could definitely see the flags moving.
- 4:15Speaker 1: They said the wind was going to be out of
- 4:16Speaker 1: the south and then said it they switched. It switched
- 4:21Speaker 1: about three four o'clock right.
- 4:24Speaker 4: The star did it died? Then the wind die basically
- 4:27Speaker 4: like second half, yeah.
- 4:29Speaker 1: A little. The flags were still blown. It wasn't as
- 4:31Speaker 1: bad as it was the first half.
- 4:34Speaker 4: I felt. I thought it went like blown super hard,
- 4:36Speaker 4: was basically dead.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It wasn't. It didn't just completely die.
- 4:42Speaker 4: No, but well, the.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Wind definitely blew a lot early on. That factored in,
- 4:49Speaker 1: I think to a lot of the play calling too,
- 4:52Speaker 1: particularly and one point of emphasis here is the play
- 4:58Speaker 1: calling on Rutgers side in the strategy that they had
- 5:02Speaker 1: of getting Manungai going, which everybody knew and thought they
- 5:05Speaker 1: were going to do eight carries for I believe it
- 5:08Speaker 1: was like fifty four yards in the first quarter. We
- 5:11Speaker 1: were maybe on our heels a little bit, and then
- 5:15Speaker 1: they give them them ball twice in the second quarter.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I think he finished with nineteen carries. Impressive, Like, start
- 5:23Speaker 1: off with our defense, and I would will say it
- 5:27Speaker 1: out coaching, whatever you think of Okay, hold on, Dak,
- 5:31Speaker 1: what what's going on with your eyes right now?
- 5:33Speaker 4: It's my left eyes all fucked up.
- 5:35Speaker 1: You're like, You're like, I'm like, are you okay?
- 5:41Speaker 4: It hurts that. Yeah. Probably need to take more contact though,
- 5:44Speaker 4: but we'll worry about that later.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Don't do that if you need to.
- 5:49Speaker 4: We're good.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Oh boy.
- 5:53Speaker 1: So anyways, I just thought our defense out coach and
- 5:57Speaker 1: Tony White specifically out coached, but Rutgers was to do
- 6:00Speaker 1: and it sounds like maybe we even threw some new
- 6:02Speaker 1: stuff out him bringing in the quote unquote bigger guys,
- 6:06Speaker 1: and it worked really well. Rutgers offense. No, they're not
- 6:10Speaker 1: gonna be Ohio State here in a few weeks. But
- 6:13Speaker 1: at the same time, we stopped what they wanted to
- 6:15Speaker 1: do and it won us the football game.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I will say I do think that Manungai did get
- 6:23Speaker 2: in the end zone on that one that was not
- 6:26Speaker 2: called out the goal line, But aside from that, I agree.
- 6:28Speaker 2: I think.
- 6:31Speaker 3: I saw some ridiculous post some tweet about like we're
- 6:37Speaker 3: the only team in the country to hold players.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Under what was it?
- 6:41Speaker 1: I got it? I got it right here, which it's
- 6:44Speaker 1: the stats.
- 6:44Speaker 4: It's like a lot of dads, I've heard.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I've heard this and seen it a billion plays, so
- 6:49Speaker 1: we might as well disrepeat it. Forty three FBS defenses
- 6:53Speaker 1: at Forest at least eight turnovers, sixteen have recorded at
- 6:56Speaker 1: least fifteen sacks, Eleven are allowing lesson working points per game.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Only one is doing all three and that's Nebraska. And
- 7:06Speaker 1: then on top of that, you're not the only Power
- 7:09Speaker 1: five school that has not allowed a rushing touchdown.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a pretty good. Uh.
- 7:15Speaker 3: Now, again, you could argue the teams we've played have
- 7:18Speaker 3: not been that great, but I don't.
- 7:21Speaker 1: I don't even want to like make those arguments or
- 7:23Speaker 1: talk about those anymore because people are going to try
- 7:25Speaker 1: to justify it that way. And that's fine if that's
- 7:27Speaker 1: what you want to do, and maybe they'll be At
- 7:29Speaker 1: the same time, It's like, we're five and one and
- 7:32Speaker 1: and right are not teams.
- 7:35Speaker 4: A couple of those teams are good.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, you know they're good.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I agree, yep, But again, what's good when you're comparing them,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, the way rules trying to
- 7:44Speaker 1: get the players to think, and I think he's doing
- 7:46Speaker 1: a good job of it. And I think for some
- 7:48Speaker 1: people's bleeding into the fans. It's a Big ten opponent.
- 7:51Speaker 1: It's not a good Big ten opponent of bad. I'm
- 7:53Speaker 1: trying to think of them. When I try to do it,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I do it in tears in my mind. I think
- 7:58Speaker 1: there's three team teams potentially maybe four in Tier one.
- 8:03Speaker 1: I think potentially there's a bottom tier of about three teams,
- 8:06Speaker 1: but then there's ten to twelve teams all in that middle,
- 8:09Speaker 1: and we're one of them. Illinois is one of them,
- 8:11Speaker 1: Rutgers is one of them, Indiana is one of them.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So beating those teams, however you have to do it
- 8:18Speaker 1: is a positive. Wisconsin's now in there, Iowa, I think,
- 8:21Speaker 1: is probably in there. There's so many that are in
- 8:23Speaker 1: that middle tier that to me, there it's another Big
- 8:26Speaker 1: ten team. It's not a good or a bad opponent.
- 8:28Speaker 1: It's another Big ten team that we need to win
- 8:30Speaker 1: because we haven't done that in recent years.
- 8:33Speaker 4: Now, are you count your chickens before they hatch? Very earlier?
- 8:38Speaker 5: You said six and one? You count in the Indiana game,
- 8:40Speaker 5: ready to win?
- 8:42Speaker 1: No, I said, potentially that'd be the I was gonna say,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I'm pretty the goal. I mean, I think that'd be good.
- 8:48Speaker 5: I'm pretty confident Indiana is good.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But again we say good. What I'm saying is they're not.
- 8:57Speaker 1: They're not a top tier team. They're not in the
- 9:00Speaker 1: top three of the Big No, they're not. Indiana would
- 9:03Speaker 1: get slaughtered by Ohio State.
- 9:07Speaker 2: Penn State. Ohio. Penn State's one where.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I'm not quite sure. But what I'm saying is Penn
- 9:12Speaker 1: State or Indiana's maybe quote unquote good, but they're in
- 9:16Speaker 1: that next tier with us, and yeah, maybe they're better.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I mean, who knows, but they're in that next tier.
- 9:21Speaker 1: So it was Ruggers, like, you can't tell me Indiana
- 9:23Speaker 1: and Ruggers playing. It's not gonna be a fourteen point spread.
- 9:27Speaker 1: It's gonna be a lesson a touchdown points I mean sport,
- 9:29Speaker 1: it's going to be a touch a one score game.
- 9:31Speaker 1: We hear that a lot. That we finally got to win.
- 9:33Speaker 6: It, it was yeah, yeah, because I mean, honestly, this
- 9:42Speaker 6: was one of the first games where it was a
- 9:46Speaker 6: one score game and Ruggers had the ball.
- 9:48Speaker 3: I don't remember exactly what the time mark was, but
- 9:50Speaker 3: I wasn't worried. It's like I think we got this one.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Like I don't think we're gonna blow this game.
- 9:58Speaker 1: I had similar feelings of that in the stadium, which
- 10:03Speaker 1: you feel like maybe we're scarred enough to remember that.
- 10:07Speaker 1: I don't know. I just didn't when they scored to
- 10:10Speaker 1: cut to one possession with four minutes left or whatever.
- 10:12Speaker 1: I just never felt like there's they can't, They're not
- 10:16Speaker 1: gonna do it, like Cali Manus is not good. Our
- 10:19Speaker 1: defense ping so well. We we just we just we
- 10:24Speaker 1: we can't. We're not gonna blow this. There's no way
- 10:26Speaker 1: we're not turning it over. Besides the one interception, but
- 10:30Speaker 1: it just seemed like we were in control of the game,
- 10:32Speaker 1: even though things maybe started slipping a little bit. I
- 10:36Speaker 1: just didn't feel like it was us making mistakes. It
- 10:38Speaker 1: was just a prodigal the way we were playing right.
- 10:42Speaker 3: We were we were not necessarily conservative, but we were
- 10:45Speaker 3: definitely running the ball more in the second half, regardless
- 10:49Speaker 3: of whether it was being successful or not.
- 10:54Speaker 5: Yeah, Calcolm macis that you say his name?
- 11:02Speaker 4: AK forty seven? Definitely guy exposed.
- 11:04Speaker 5: He sucks so much yesterday he can he couldn't hit
- 11:08Speaker 5: an ocean standing on the beach.
- 11:09Speaker 4: He was he was awful.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Can we put the quote up from Sunday where Dack
- 11:13Speaker 3: said most improved quarterback.
- 11:15Speaker 5: And I said that I'm pretty sure you did.
- 11:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I did.
- 11:23Speaker 5: Yeah, he looked awfully. I didn't run and he didn't
- 11:26Speaker 5: try to run that much either. I don't know what
- 11:27Speaker 5: the hell that he was trying to do.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Well, surprise, he didn't try to run him a little more.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Not at all.
- 11:31Speaker 5: I figured they do little readoption. He's quicker than what
- 11:34Speaker 5: people think. He killed him in Minnesota with his legs.
- 11:37Speaker 5: But also Riyola didn't have a great stellar game either.
- 11:41Speaker 5: I have their stats here combined. They went twenty eight
- 11:44Speaker 5: to sixty four, three twenty yards, one touchdown, three picks.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Not great, pretty windy.
- 11:50Speaker 4: Yeah, and that pick Rylo through is pretty bad.
- 11:54Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't not not gonna move on to offense
- 11:57Speaker 1: quite yet. Defensively, I want to give a shout out
- 12:00Speaker 1: on the goal line stand not once, but twice after
- 12:03Speaker 1: the penalty, Austin, you mentioned the touchdown that maybe he
- 12:07Speaker 1: got in on. What's funny? I heard that and it
- 12:09Speaker 1: must have been from Shiana's press conference. They did not
- 12:12Speaker 1: challenge it or review it because the replay official had
- 12:16Speaker 1: called down and told the ref, and the ref told Giana,
- 12:18Speaker 1: we've already looked at this. You don't want to challenge it,
- 12:21Speaker 1: oh really, and said that he was. That basically just
- 12:25Speaker 1: kind of pre informs that you can if you want.
- 12:27Speaker 1: But they he wasn't in, like they basically told him preemptively,
- 12:31Speaker 1: which I think. I don't know. I didn't. I did
- 12:32Speaker 1: never went back and watched the play, but that that
- 12:35Speaker 1: is what that is what he was told and what
- 12:37Speaker 1: got said, which is interesting. I didn't know either.
- 12:39Speaker 2: That was the way I can.
- 12:41Speaker 3: See those inconclusive, you know, like call stands. I don't
- 12:45Speaker 3: know if they could have confirmed it. I thought I
- 12:47Speaker 3: really did think he was in, but.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Maybe that's what it was. They just said, we look,
- 12:51Speaker 1: we had our six camera angles. There's not one where
- 12:53Speaker 1: you can see the ball. Sorry. That might might have
- 12:57Speaker 1: been the extent of it. So anyways, that was interesting.
- 13:00Speaker 1: With the goal line stand. Wow, I just I just
- 13:03Speaker 1: got to say. That changes the entire momentum of the
- 13:09Speaker 1: way that fourth quarter went. And yes, they still end
- 13:12Speaker 1: up scoring later on, but you score early on in
- 13:15Speaker 1: the fourth quarter, I believe it's a lot different than
- 13:18Speaker 1: scoring when they did and had to be a lot
- 13:20Speaker 1: more desperate at that time, and it did change I
- 13:24Speaker 1: think how we called the game offensively, but I just
- 13:28Speaker 1: it's a huge shout out. And again Tony White, we challenged.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Everybody was questioning after the Illinois game, what's going on
- 13:38Speaker 1: with this defense? He has continued to be creative and
- 13:44Speaker 1: adapt to what we need to do defensively and play
- 13:46Speaker 1: a lot of different guys we played. We played a
- 13:50Speaker 1: different personnel group this year or this game than we
- 13:52Speaker 1: have all year. Very impressed, Very good job, kudo's the defense?
- 13:58Speaker 1: You want us a game like this that we needed
- 14:00Speaker 1: to win.
- 14:02Speaker 5: Who's this walk on stuff that I keep on seeing
- 14:06Speaker 5: why I saw a bunch of staff if he walk
- 14:09Speaker 5: on something like that?
- 14:10Speaker 2: He just know James Williams.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Yeah, did he walk honest here what.
- 14:15Speaker 2: A preferred walk on?
- 14:16Speaker 3: Like he was a graduate senior and he just kind
- 14:19Speaker 3: of opened try out his way onto the team something
- 14:21Speaker 3: like that.
- 14:22Speaker 1: It's been it's been very impressive for him. And then
- 14:25Speaker 1: Sierra writes the other one that's came on and has
- 14:28Speaker 1: been incredible.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Fun fact about sier Right. He portrayed Lebron, James's oldest
- 14:34Speaker 3: son in Space Jam Legacy movie star. I agree, they've
- 14:42Speaker 3: all honestly all been good. I thought it was funny
- 14:44Speaker 3: that Jamari Butler changed his jersey number mm hmm.
- 14:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 14:48Speaker 3: There was a couple people who changed their jersey numbers,
- 14:50Speaker 3: which is I don't know. I didn't really understand because
- 14:54Speaker 3: now someone else is number one. Uh, I'm gonna blank
- 14:59Speaker 3: on who at the new number one? So I don't
- 15:01Speaker 3: know if that still count as like a single digit jersey,
- 15:03Speaker 3: Like are you if jam is swamping the.
- 15:06Speaker 1: I love it. I love the change. If it were
- 15:09Speaker 1: up to me, I would change numbers every game. I
- 15:11Speaker 1: think it'd be confusing. You know your players, They wouldn't
- 15:15Speaker 1: I I don't know if that's legal and you must
- 15:17Speaker 1: be able to I don't know why no one's tried it,
- 15:18Speaker 1: especially in football when you're when you're covered.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Up and you can't ye crazy. No one's tried it
- 15:24Speaker 5: because you and you tap, you like at numbers.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I think it'd be fascinating for a team. If you
- 15:29Speaker 1: were a bad team, I would be doing it in
- 15:31Speaker 1: a heartbeat, just changes every game, changing numbers. And I
- 15:34Speaker 1: don't is there a law rule that you have to
- 15:36Speaker 1: submit a roster. I don't know there's probably a limited
- 15:39Speaker 1: number of times.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree, Like just every week everyone
- 15:43Speaker 3: has a new number, except.
- 15:44Speaker 2: For maybe like killing you know, like don't worry about
- 15:47Speaker 2: rayl I do. I will say last thing about the defense.
- 15:52Speaker 3: It's kind of given me a little the last couple
- 15:54Speaker 3: of weeks, like the last three games, still the little
- 15:57Speaker 3: bend do breaky, you know, like we're going up a
- 16:00Speaker 3: lot of yards between the twenties, but when it gets
- 16:02Speaker 3: down to the red zone, it it feels like we're
- 16:04Speaker 3: taking up and not letting touchdowns.
- 16:07Speaker 1: See, And to me, is that a product of the
- 16:09Speaker 1: way the game went being up fourteen nothing? I know,
- 16:12Speaker 1: Purdue was foot flopped right, we were tied and then one.
- 16:18Speaker 1: But all these games like Illinois too, I get that
- 16:22Speaker 1: vibe a little bit too. But is that more situational
- 16:25Speaker 1: type because we're we have a lead and we don't
- 16:29Speaker 1: have to go gamble or bullets as much in those situation.
- 16:33Speaker 1: I don't know that that's just a thought that might
- 16:35Speaker 1: be happening. But clearly it's working. We read the stats.
- 16:39Speaker 1: It's doing a good job regardless of who were playing.
- 16:42Speaker 1: So yeah, it's impressive. Dak anymore defensive thoughts.
- 16:47Speaker 5: I'm trying to find anything about if you can change
- 16:49Speaker 5: your numbers, and I it's impossible find that.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Barnet says, nothing possible.
- 16:53Speaker 3: There's nothing out there in the entire world that we
- 16:55Speaker 3: could possibly.
- 16:56Speaker 5: Find about it. It made no sense to me.
- 16:59Speaker 1: So that's your homework for winsor.
- 17:03Speaker 4: I'm trying to do him a fly right now. I
- 17:04Speaker 4: didn't find it all. But what was your question?
- 17:08Speaker 2: Blust defensive comments day?
- 17:10Speaker 5: Okay, I thought, yeah, I mean defense played great. But
- 17:17Speaker 5: was it also a K forty seven played terrible?
- 17:20Speaker 2: Probably both?
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah, I think it's a mix of boll I mean,
- 17:23Speaker 5: defense did play really good. Those goal line stands are awesome.
- 17:26Speaker 5: Your D line played great, look really good in this game.
- 17:29Speaker 1: This is kind of just start saying our D line.
- 17:33Speaker 1: What you say our D line, our r.
- 17:36Speaker 4: D line looks great.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Thank you, mat But non guys, I say his name too, Hey,
- 17:47Speaker 5: Ak forty eight. You guys bottled him up to yeh
- 17:50Speaker 5: think there's a good defense performance.
- 17:52Speaker 1: It was I agree, and stopping Manung guy was the
- 17:56Speaker 1: key and we did a really good job at that.
- 17:59Speaker 1: That's the thing. He is a really good running back.
- 18:02Speaker 1: He will get drafted. He's not gonna say he's gonna
- 18:05Speaker 1: be Pachaco, but he has potential to be a guy
- 18:07Speaker 1: like that in the NFL. That was a lot of
- 18:09Speaker 1: the comparisons to him. He what we did with him
- 18:12Speaker 1: early well, I say early on he got going, but
- 18:15Speaker 1: to close the game out was very impressive and it
- 18:19Speaker 1: was very interesting. I mentioned this earlier, how they kind
- 18:22Speaker 1: of stopped going to him. That may have been a
- 18:23Speaker 1: win thing. I don't know that. Just looking back on
- 18:26Speaker 1: the game, whether Ruggers, I mean Rutgers got out coached,
- 18:30Speaker 1: was it we coached, we outschemed them and forced him
- 18:34Speaker 1: to do different things potentially, like you might just say, oh,
- 18:37Speaker 1: Ruggers were stupid, didn't run the ball. Maybe we were
- 18:39Speaker 1: showing stuff schematically that said we're going to do this. Also,
- 18:45Speaker 1: got to throw this out there, the fake field goal too,
- 18:50Speaker 1: We'll just do this to the two fake field goal
- 18:53Speaker 1: and a fake field goal and then a fake punt.
- 18:54Speaker 1: Both were in our favor. The fake field goal they
- 18:58Speaker 1: do early on. I don't I've not heard anybody say
- 19:02Speaker 1: this this. It's funny because I noticed it live. I
- 19:04Speaker 1: normally never count players, but for whatever reason, when we
- 19:09Speaker 1: were charting out there, and I think it was me
- 19:11Speaker 1: just saying, Okay, we're gonna do something stupid like not
- 19:13Speaker 1: have enough guys in the field or something. I watched
- 19:16Speaker 1: this run out there. We had ten guys in the
- 19:17Speaker 1: field for that field goal.
- 19:19Speaker 2: Oh no, kidding, And I counted them.
- 19:21Speaker 1: I counted them twice, and I count them three times.
- 19:24Speaker 1: I count them again, and I was asking people. I'm like, yeah,
- 19:26Speaker 1: there's ten guys out there, and then sure enough they
- 19:29Speaker 1: fake it, we stop them, we get the ball back.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Maybe that's why maybe they have an automatic call for
- 19:35Speaker 1: I guess I.
- 19:36Speaker 2: Bet that's why they faked it. You're right. I mean,
- 19:38Speaker 2: if there's ten guys there, probably faking.
- 19:40Speaker 1: It, and we don't know my conspiracy, I'm like, well,
- 19:44Speaker 1: maybe we knew that them them on film would fake
- 19:48Speaker 1: it if we only had ten guys. So we were
- 19:51Speaker 1: ready to stop the fake with ten guys. I was
- 19:53Speaker 1: like trying to go down that path, but clearly, clearly
- 19:56Speaker 1: we probably just had ten. Yeah, so shout out there
- 20:01Speaker 1: and then second and we'll just do all of mister
- 20:05Speaker 1: Brian Bushini in one because boy.
- 20:09Speaker 2: Was he good.
- 20:10Speaker 1: He injured almost just us. Where's the sounds? Won us
- 20:15Speaker 1: a game again? He one punting the ball. We did
- 20:21Speaker 1: have two punch blocked. Let's keep that in mind. He
- 20:24Speaker 1: also had a snap that went into the ground that
- 20:26Speaker 1: he picked up and got off. Obviously, the the fake
- 20:32Speaker 1: punt that was just a dime on the dot, and
- 20:37Speaker 1: then how about the punt at the end to really
- 20:41Speaker 1: force them, I will say, I have to drive an
- 20:43Speaker 1: extra forty yards to score. Yeah, it just felt like, yeah,
- 20:48Speaker 1: you talk about an unsung hero on the team. I
- 20:53Speaker 1: just keep laughing at Dak's eye.
- 20:55Speaker 5: Yeah, it's fuck it.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I I just can't say enough how good of a
- 21:03Speaker 1: season he's had so far, and hopefully we don't jinx him,
- 21:07Speaker 1: but he's done a very good job at punter. He
- 21:10Speaker 1: is saving our entire special teams unit on his own
- 21:13Speaker 1: of not making it a complete disaster because he's having
- 21:17Speaker 1: a very good year.
- 21:19Speaker 3: I mean the blocked punts not necessarily his fault. And
- 21:24Speaker 3: I mean he got like he actively looked because I
- 21:27Speaker 3: mean I don't know if you could tell in the stands,
- 21:29Speaker 3: but like on TV, every time he tried out, you
- 21:31Speaker 3: could tell he was hurting. He's kind of limping, and
- 21:33Speaker 3: every time he kicked it you could see him wincing
- 21:35Speaker 3: in his face.
- 21:36Speaker 2: And but yeah, he that fake punt.
- 21:40Speaker 3: It's good to see a fake special teams play actually
- 21:43Speaker 3: work out, especially when we didn't need it. Now, admittedly,
- 21:47Speaker 3: the I'm pretty sure that drive stall out and we
- 21:49Speaker 3: ended up having to hunt it anyways, but I mean
- 21:55Speaker 3: it ate more time with the clock. But yeah, he
- 21:57Speaker 3: was a freaking rock star.
- 22:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I've never saw so after the game. He's the
- 22:03Speaker 5: one thing I interviewed. I've never saw punter gay interviewed
- 22:05Speaker 5: for the post game uh like on field interview.
- 22:08Speaker 4: So that that's just how.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Salor got interviewed every week last year for Iowa.
- 22:13Speaker 5: Yeah that shuldret much Iowa I watch. But yeah, that
- 22:19Speaker 5: just shows you how good of a game he had.
- 22:20Speaker 5: He did basically win that game. Banks made him drive
- 22:25Speaker 5: a long field the whole game, and that when you
- 22:27Speaker 5: can't put the field like that.
- 22:28Speaker 4: Now I have touchbacks all the time. It's it helps
- 22:30Speaker 4: out a lot.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It is definitely a big factor, combined with a lot
- 22:35Speaker 1: of other things that helps you win football games. The
- 22:38Speaker 1: rest of the special teams, we didn't have to see
- 22:41Speaker 1: a field goal attempt, which I was very We could
- 22:46Speaker 1: have for it on fourth down correct, which I think
- 22:50Speaker 1: also was Okay. What's what was interesting and I don't know.
- 22:54Speaker 1: This also just could be coincidence, but during halftime it
- 22:59Speaker 1: would have been after Bouschini got popped. John Hole was
- 23:05Speaker 1: doing the kickoff at halftime warm ups, and our only
- 23:08Speaker 1: guy hicking field goals was Nico. However, the heck you
- 23:13Speaker 1: say his name ninety one is his number? I don't know, Auto.
- 23:20Speaker 1: It's not the Tennessee quarterback, but it's another weird last name.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I don't know if that means he was going to
- 23:29Speaker 1: get the shot. He did not kick the extra points,
- 23:34Speaker 1: so maybe it was just that Hole needed practice on
- 23:36Speaker 1: the kickoffs because Boushini normally does that, and Boushini said,
- 23:39Speaker 1: I can't do this because of my hip. But Boushini said,
- 23:42Speaker 1: I can still kick punts. Motion must just be different.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I would Matt would think, I don't know. I don't
- 23:49Speaker 1: know that way.
- 23:49Speaker 4: Now. Is Alvona up for the year? What the heck's
- 23:52Speaker 4: going on there?
- 23:53Speaker 2: Just the hamstring thing. I don't think he's out for
- 23:55Speaker 2: the year, though.
- 23:56Speaker 1: I just feel like a hamstring is not good.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Who's already had the yips.
- 24:05Speaker 1: It still is a unit that needs to get a
- 24:10Speaker 1: lot better all the way through. Boushini needs to carry
- 24:14Speaker 1: those guys. Well, Jackson said it last week, like Bushinis
- 24:17Speaker 1: has the momentum and the play right now, that's speaking
- 24:21Speaker 1: for himself. To get all the special team guys as
- 24:24Speaker 1: specialist long snappers holders and get on a mission to
- 24:28Speaker 1: put in the extra time to make this unit get better.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I'm not gonna say it's gonna be great. I don't
- 24:34Speaker 1: know that we have the quote unquote talent at that
- 24:37Speaker 1: position to have a excellent special teams unit, but they
- 24:42Speaker 1: have to put in the time and it has to
- 24:43Speaker 1: continue to get better for us to win more games.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I mean, just in general, no matter who we're playing offense,
- 25:00Speaker 1: that is kind of I feel like everybody's mind is
- 25:03Speaker 1: just yeah, And I'm gonna start with Lan Royola. I
- 25:06Speaker 1: feel like we just have to have a Dylan Royola
- 25:08Speaker 1: segment every Sunday because he's the quarterback, the quarterback, and
- 25:12Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about that quarterback everybody. I feel like
- 25:17Speaker 1: it's down on him this week, and maybe not down,
- 25:20Speaker 1: but the words I've heard is he's human. Maybe he's
- 25:24Speaker 1: not this you know, excellent over the top guy. Like
- 25:30Speaker 1: he can't have a bad game. Yeah, Like I get it.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Did he probably he probably did have his worst game
- 25:38Speaker 1: of the year, missed some throws. I mean, just look
- 25:42Speaker 1: at the stats alone. I didn't look at those until
- 25:44Speaker 1: today and I was like, oh, yeah, those aren't great.
- 25:46Speaker 1: But and that was the headline too on bleacher report,
- 25:49Speaker 1: I think was Nebraska survives a struggling performance from Dylan
- 25:54Speaker 1: Royla or something like that. Now I'm gonna say this too.
- 25:59Speaker 1: It's a product of the way the game went in
- 26:01Speaker 1: the position that he was put in. I also think
- 26:06Speaker 1: he has Sat in his ear. I believe it's probably
- 26:10Speaker 1: Sat who he's talking to. And when you're up fourteen
- 26:12Speaker 1: nothing and it's third and seven or third and eight
- 26:16Speaker 1: in you're back to pass, and what I was hearing
- 26:19Speaker 1: is that maybe he was looking for his deep guys
- 26:20Speaker 1: and not just taking what the defense was giving him.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Maybe that's true. I don't know. But as the rush came,
- 26:28Speaker 1: obviously we would get sacked, and maybe Sat saying, hey,
- 26:31Speaker 1: just don't try to be a hero right now. We
- 26:33Speaker 1: don't need that, Like, just go down right, don't.
- 26:37Speaker 2: Back, let the clock run.
- 26:39Speaker 1: It's conservative, but deconservative. Don't get fancy. We don't need
- 26:42Speaker 1: to fumble in the pocket right now. We don't need
- 26:44Speaker 1: a dumb forced pass right now, if it's not wide open,
- 26:48Speaker 1: just eat it, call it good. That's what I'm thinking.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Potentially in the game situation could have happened. Now. There
- 26:56Speaker 1: were still throws in times that he missed overthrows. The
- 27:00Speaker 1: one that sticks out in my mind and I think
- 27:01Speaker 1: was later in the game, the third and weave a
- 27:04Speaker 1: third and six and he had Fidoni in the flats
- 27:06Speaker 1: and just would have been a first down. Moved the ball,
- 27:11Speaker 1: missed it.
- 27:15Speaker 2: He didn't lose us the game. No, that's the big thing.
- 27:18Speaker 1: But so that's that's his ties into my other big
- 27:21Speaker 1: point about the game. He's obviously much better than what
- 27:27Speaker 1: we had last year. But the biggest reason why is
- 27:31Speaker 1: he's not turning the ball over like fumbles. Let's just
- 27:35Speaker 1: say it iner like handoffs. We couldn't hand the ball
- 27:39Speaker 1: off sometimes last year with Jeff Simms and our running
- 27:41Speaker 1: back times we just taking a snap under center like
- 27:46Speaker 1: it shouldn't be things we're talking about, but they are. Obviously,
- 27:48Speaker 1: the interceptions and decision making, this was the first one
- 27:51Speaker 1: that I would say is truly on him. Just didn't
- 27:53Speaker 1: see the guy. But it's because we're not turning it over.
- 27:56Speaker 1: We are a very similar team to last year. We
- 27:59Speaker 1: are we are so similar. People might not like to
- 28:01Speaker 1: hear that there's not much difference. Maybe we have a
- 28:05Speaker 1: few bit more playmakers on the outside, but the biggest
- 28:10Speaker 1: difference is that Dylan Royola is not turning the ball
- 28:12Speaker 1: over as the game manager, as the quarterback, and that
- 28:17Speaker 1: continued to be the reason why we want And then
- 28:20Speaker 1: other side of that defense were forcing turnovers this year.
- 28:22Speaker 1: That was one thing that was emphasize and stress. We
- 28:25Speaker 1: talked about it, Everyone talked about it. They're doing a
- 28:27Speaker 1: phenomenal job on that. So another defensive shout out. That's
- 28:30Speaker 1: the other side of the turnovers. But Dylan Royola still Yeah,
- 28:34Speaker 1: maybe he didn't have his best game, but it's not
- 28:37Speaker 1: like he was disastrous. That game was still as good,
- 28:40Speaker 1: if not better than what eight or nine of our
- 28:43Speaker 1: games last year.
- 28:44Speaker 2: From our quarterback. Yeah, probably they.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Think about that like as that that sounds like we
- 28:54Speaker 1: should go back and look at those games and what happened,
- 28:56Speaker 1: Like heinerg had a good game against Illinois and that's
- 29:00Speaker 1: the one that whate else what other games stick out
- 29:03Speaker 1: that our quarterbacks played well and that that performance this
- 29:05Speaker 1: week would be less than that.
- 29:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's that's just kind of true. No, I agree,
- 29:14Speaker 3: Like I was not at no point during the game. Now,
- 29:18Speaker 3: admittedly I was watching it on tape delay like an
- 29:22Speaker 3: old person. I recorded the game and watched it at
- 29:25Speaker 3: nine o'clock at night, But there no point during the
- 29:32Speaker 3: game where I was like, oh my gosh, Dylan, what
- 29:33Speaker 3: are you doing? You know, it's like, oh, he missed
- 29:36Speaker 3: that guy. But we were also really conservative with running
- 29:40Speaker 3: the ball. It's like, did we need to run the
- 29:42Speaker 3: ball with you know, second and nine. Probably not, but
- 29:46Speaker 3: we did. And now we're in a third and long situation,
- 29:49Speaker 3: but we're bleeding out the clock, like okay, Like this
- 29:52Speaker 3: feels like you're right, This feels all part of the
- 29:54Speaker 3: game plan in the situation of the game of we're
- 29:56Speaker 3: up two scores on a team that likes to run
- 29:59Speaker 3: and burn the clock slow, Like, let's just also burn
- 30:01Speaker 3: the clock and put them in a position Dylan needs
- 30:04Speaker 3: to get third down conversions. I'm sure he did your
- 30:07Speaker 3: great bad interception, but yeah, like I said, he just
- 30:13Speaker 3: didn't lose us the game. Last year, we would have
- 30:15Speaker 3: lost the game, probably because someone would have tried to
- 30:17Speaker 3: force a pass on a third and six in the
- 30:19Speaker 3: fourth quarter and turn the ball over, fumbled it, and
- 30:23Speaker 3: then Rutgers go down to the scores and we lo's
- 30:24Speaker 3: an overtime.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Mm hm, he's a he's a freshman.
- 30:30Speaker 4: Any of these you're gonna have games like that. But
- 30:32Speaker 4: the main thing.
- 30:32Speaker 5: About it is when he struggled like that, at least
- 30:35Speaker 5: he didn't turn the ball over to make it worse,
- 30:39Speaker 5: because because when your quarterback struggle like that, they can
- 30:42Speaker 5: easily that can easily be a four or five pick
- 30:44Speaker 5: game and they lose a game for you. He just
- 30:46Speaker 5: you could tell it wasn't his day from the beginning.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Basically he was sailing passes and stuff. But yeah, he
- 30:52Speaker 5: just the main part is didn't turn over and got
- 30:54Speaker 5: the guy out there with a win.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Yeah, we keep saying didn't turn over. He did. They did.
- 30:58Speaker 1: Had the one pick that's a pretty bad pickle, but
- 31:01Speaker 1: you just turned over in a bad position at the
- 31:04Speaker 1: end of the game win it. And the other you
- 31:09Speaker 1: don't count as stat wise as a turnover. But obviously
- 31:12Speaker 1: the block punks the one specifically that they return to
- 31:15Speaker 1: whatever the two yard line, which we did get to
- 31:17Speaker 1: stop on that just feels like a turnover and maybe
- 31:21Speaker 1: even worse because of the return after so yeah, that's
- 31:25Speaker 1: not obviously on Dylan Royola, but it doesn't count as
- 31:28Speaker 1: a stat also got to mention that here's where I
- 31:32Speaker 1: think offensively, that there's a lot of questions to be answered.
- 31:38Speaker 1: We got to show improvement on which we have a
- 31:39Speaker 1: bye week, it's a great time to work on it.
- 31:42Speaker 1: We have to be more effective in our play calling
- 31:46Speaker 1: so that we're not predictable. That to me is most important.
- 31:51Speaker 1: And again you're a fourteen nothing. Maybe the mindset is
- 31:55Speaker 1: our defense. Let's go our defensive winners this game. We
- 31:58Speaker 1: can be predictable and we are going to run the
- 32:00Speaker 1: ball and screw it. Now we've shown that maybe that's
- 32:03Speaker 1: not We're not able to do that as effectively as before,
- 32:06Speaker 1: so we're gonna have to scheme up some different plays
- 32:08Speaker 1: to be unpredictable. The one this week that I loved.
- 32:13Speaker 1: There are a couple of really good ones, but the
- 32:14Speaker 1: one was the screen pass early on there that we
- 32:19Speaker 1: threw to her mirror off of the fake jet action
- 32:21Speaker 1: and then came back to her mirror like That was
- 32:24Speaker 1: a well designed I'm gonna call it a cute play,
- 32:28Speaker 1: but it was something different. Now along with those cute
- 32:31Speaker 1: kind of gadget type plays that we have. We also
- 32:34Speaker 1: just have to be a little bit different on offense. Now,
- 32:37Speaker 1: some people aren't gonna like that because that might mean
- 32:39Speaker 1: throwing it on first down a little bit. We didn't
- 32:42Speaker 1: take many shots down the field this week deep, which
- 32:46Speaker 1: maybe is a product of the wind. It might look different.
- 32:50Speaker 1: But the same people that are saying, man, we can't
- 32:54Speaker 1: run the ball, we're not going able to establish a run, Well,
- 32:57Speaker 1: it's not like we. If you, if you want to
- 32:59Speaker 1: be better, are running the ball. You can't just try
- 33:02Speaker 1: to keep running it and not change anything. You got
- 33:04Speaker 1: to start throwing in some different things. And those are
- 33:06Speaker 1: gonna be the same people that win we do start
- 33:10Speaker 1: throwing it on first down that are gonna say why
- 33:11Speaker 1: are we not just running at the ball on first
- 33:13Speaker 1: and second down. So there's a give and take there,
- 33:16Speaker 1: And I think that's what this that's what by coaching matters,
- 33:20Speaker 1: and what they get paid to do is to be creative,
- 33:23Speaker 1: call the right plays at the right time given the situation.
- 33:27Speaker 1: And the situation on Saturday was we're early on we
- 33:31Speaker 1: got a fourteen nothing. Great job, would it have been
- 33:35Speaker 1: nice and really even said it to push it to
- 33:38Speaker 1: twenty one nothing? Yeah, like, that's what I was talking
- 33:41Speaker 1: about in the stands too. It was, Man, a really
- 33:44Speaker 1: good team right now on this drive, would just put
- 33:47Speaker 1: together a seven minute drive and just go score with
- 33:51Speaker 1: five minutes left to go up twenty one to nothing,
- 33:52Speaker 1: then there's no question. I'm like, yeah, they would. I
- 33:55Speaker 1: don't know that we're there yet, would be great if
- 33:57Speaker 1: we could do that. So the alternative is what happened,
- 34:01Speaker 1: where we played a little more conservative and and just said,
- 34:03Speaker 1: all right, we're gonna win this game.
- 34:04Speaker 4: And we did.
- 34:05Speaker 1: That's why, coming out of it my mind, we're five
- 34:08Speaker 1: and one. I don't care what it looks like. I
- 34:10Speaker 1: don't care what people think of the offense in the
- 34:12Speaker 1: second half, Like, who gives a crap?
- 34:14Speaker 2: We won, right, And a lot of people thought Rucords
- 34:17Speaker 2: were gonna win.
- 34:17Speaker 3: I don't know if you watch game day, but I'm
- 34:19Speaker 3: pretty sure half of them picked Rutgers to win.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I mean, what I thought the spread was high, that
- 34:25Speaker 1: was not. That's also maybe why I feel better about
- 34:27Speaker 1: this and a lot of people as I I didn't
- 34:29Speaker 1: think we were gonna win this game. I just I did.
- 34:33Speaker 1: I just I just didn't. I didn't feel good about
- 34:36Speaker 1: the way they played and.
