Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Hawk Talk with former Seahawks wide receiver
- 0:04Speaker 1: Michael Bumpus, powered by Seahawks dot Com.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Now here's your host, NASA Chobe. Welcome into another edition
- 0:13Speaker 2: of Hawk Talk.
- 0:13Speaker 1: The Seahawks get it done on the road beating the
- 0:15Speaker 1: Seamon thirty one seventeen. How sweet it is to be
- 0:19Speaker 1: back in the victory column, NASA Chobe.
- 0:21Speaker 2: He's Michael Bumpus.
- 0:22Speaker 1: This is Hawk Talk and it's a great victory Monday
- 0:24Speaker 1: here at the Virginia Mason Athletics. Well, sure is, man,
- 0:28Speaker 1: I can't lie. It is such a different feeling coming
- 0:30Speaker 1: after win.
- 0:31Speaker 3: The air smells different, you know, the sun is shining brighter.
- 0:33Speaker 3: This this things just feel different after w.
- 0:35Speaker 1: The three hours we do postgame show feels that much better.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Obviously talking about good stuff and a win. So again,
- 0:41Speaker 1: super excited about what the Seahawks did. We're gonna break
- 0:43Speaker 1: it all down here and we're not gonna waste any
- 0:45Speaker 1: more time.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Let's get into it with what had happened.
- 0:50Speaker 3: See what happened was what had happened at first was
- 0:53Speaker 3: what had happened was on Hawk Talk.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Seahawks go across the country, get it done against the
- 0:59Speaker 1: Steelers thirty one seventeen for their seventh consecutive road win.
- 1:02Speaker 1: That set a franchise record. It also brings Coast McDonald's
- 1:05Speaker 1: record on the road to eight and one.
- 1:07Speaker 2: In one football coach, he got that FORMU to figured out? Man, Yeah,
- 1:11Speaker 2: I mean again. We talked about it on the preview Pop.
- 1:13Speaker 2: We've talked about this at nauseum. It used to be
- 1:15Speaker 2: an issue a long time ago when you were playing.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I was on that team.
- 1:18Speaker 1: It is no longer hasn't been. Pete got it figured out.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Mike m'donald's came in and perfected it. Eight and one
- 1:22Speaker 1: is ridiculously good record as a coach on the road.
- 1:25Speaker 1: It's hard to win in the NFL. But overall the
- 1:28Speaker 1: game wasn't always pretty. But for the second consecutive week,
- 1:30Speaker 1: I felt like the Seahawks very much outplayed their opponent,
- 1:33Speaker 1: and this time it showed up on the scoreboard. The
- 1:35Speaker 1: Seahawks got the party started on their opening drive, marching
- 1:38Speaker 1: right down the field, going eight place for sixty five yards,
- 1:40Speaker 1: ending with a twenty one yard touchdown pass to Tory Horton.
- 1:43Speaker 2: We'll break that play down a little bit later and bump.
- 1:46Speaker 1: That drive was extra special because it was the first
- 1:48Speaker 1: time the Seahawks had scored a touchdown on their opening
- 1:51Speaker 1: drive since Week fourteen and the twenty twenty three season
- 1:54Speaker 1: where Drew Locke found dk metcalf against the forty nine.
- 1:58Speaker 4: Man.
- 1:58Speaker 3: That's a long time, long time, but I'm glad we
- 2:01Speaker 3: got that over with. Let's just make this part of
- 2:02Speaker 3: who we are. You know, go down there, open the drive,
- 2:05Speaker 3: get some points, man, put some pressure on these guys.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Man.
- 2:08Speaker 3: The Stillers will get points on their next drive, going
- 2:10Speaker 3: ten plays forty six yards, but settle for a field
- 2:13Speaker 3: goal after the Seahawks got off the field on third down.
- 2:16Speaker 3: That made the score seven to three. Seahawks disaster would
- 2:19Speaker 3: strike on the very first possession. The next play of
- 2:21Speaker 3: the possession, Sam Darnal was picked off by Jaylen Ramsey
- 2:24Speaker 3: on a pass intended for Cooper Cup. Probably should have
- 2:26Speaker 3: floated it over the top, put it on the line.
- 2:28Speaker 3: He playing against a good dB like Jaylen Ramsey. He's
- 2:30Speaker 3: gonna undercut and make that play. Yeah, you mentioned it.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Wearing no gloves lose.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Look, they're nasty out there, but man, Jayal can still
- 2:37Speaker 2: play still. The ball obviously made a huge play there.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Seahawks defense comes up big, holding the Steelers to another
- 2:41Speaker 1: field goal, which made the score seven to six. Seahawks
- 2:44Speaker 1: offense would bounce back with a nice drive of their own,
- 2:47Speaker 1: with big games to Cooper Cup Elijah Royo. Unfortunately, drive
- 2:50Speaker 1: it's all out in the red zone and Jason Myers
- 2:52Speaker 1: has been mister reliable. Sure, Unfortunately he missed a thirty
- 2:55Speaker 1: six yard field goal and the Hawks would walk away
- 2:57Speaker 1: with no points on the drive.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I thought that was of a show. Chip, you know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: we're good.
- 3:01Speaker 3: I'm taking notes and then I'll hear the reactions of
- 3:03Speaker 3: Dave Whyman.
- 3:05Speaker 2: And Raves going crazy. So that was unfortunate. But you
- 3:07Speaker 2: know what, Sorry, I just did this skin my head.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We had to blame Dave Wyman, Yes, because he drinked
- 3:11Speaker 1: it right before and the second he set out was like, Dave,
- 3:14Speaker 1: don't do a day.
- 3:14Speaker 2: So Jason, it's all good. That was on Dave Wyman. Yes,
- 3:17Speaker 2: on Dave, it's on Dave.
- 3:18Speaker 3: The next three drives will end in punts, but then
- 3:20Speaker 3: disaster will strike again on fourth down when the Seahawks
- 3:23Speaker 3: ran out a little play action and we're trying to
- 3:26Speaker 3: get to a j barner behind Hayward, but he tipped
- 3:29Speaker 3: the football and then you got a boy, Nick Herbig,
- 3:32Speaker 3: who uh snatched it out the air and put the
- 3:35Speaker 3: Seahawks in a tough situation. I don't blame we're going
- 3:39Speaker 3: back and forth today. I don't blame Kubiak for the
- 3:42Speaker 3: play call. You've been running football effectively. You feel like
- 3:44Speaker 3: they're going to crash down on you. The play action
- 3:46Speaker 3: is set up, sometimes players make plays, and that's what
- 3:50Speaker 3: happened with one of the best d linemen in the game,
- 3:52Speaker 3: mister Hayward.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Yeah, you draw it up.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Sometimes people are unblocked because you hope they bite on
- 3:56Speaker 1: play action. Yeah, that's part of the reason you do it. Unfortunately, Yeah,
- 3:59Speaker 1: disaster didn't go the way he wanted.
- 4:01Speaker 2: This time. The Steals would take advantage.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Six plays later, when Aaron Rodgers found former Seahawk DK
- 4:05Speaker 1: Metcalf for a two yard touchdown that made the score
- 4:07Speaker 1: fourteen to seven.
- 4:09Speaker 3: He didn't celebrate at all. No, he made it a point.
- 4:11Speaker 3: I ain't celebrating. I'm just getting back to the sideline.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Dude, been there, like you know, done that, I've been
- 4:15Speaker 1: there before, or whatever you want to say. And yeah,
- 4:17Speaker 1: and we'll talk about this a little bit later. But
- 4:19Speaker 1: Dk didn't do a whole lot. That was pretty much
- 4:21Speaker 1: all he did in the game, so great job by
- 4:22Speaker 1: the secondary. Hawks would punt on the next drive and
- 4:25Speaker 1: head into halftime trailing by seven.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Yeah, you felt like you could have easily been up
- 4:30Speaker 3: in this game, and that's a good feeling. You correct
- 4:33Speaker 3: some things and you should be all right in terms
- 4:35Speaker 3: of yards. The Seahawks dominated the first half, but were
- 4:37Speaker 3: unable to make the big play and felt similar to
- 4:40Speaker 3: San Francisco with missed opportunities.
- 4:42Speaker 2: The second half was a different story.
- 4:44Speaker 3: The Seahawks defense got a big stop on the first
- 4:47Speaker 3: possession and then Sam Donald mars the Seahawks down the
- 4:49Speaker 3: field nine plays eighty yards into what a seven yard
- 4:52Speaker 3: touchdown pass to a J Barner.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I see you aj. That drive had four exposive plays.
- 4:57Speaker 3: She had a nine yard run, a fifteen yard run,
- 5:00Speaker 3: seventeen yard pass, a sixteen yard pass that made the
- 5:02Speaker 3: score all square.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Of fourteen's coach McDonald talked about exposive plays this past week.
- 5:07Speaker 1: I believe it was, and a lot of different coaches
- 5:10Speaker 1: are different. Some say a run over ten or twelve,
- 5:12Speaker 1: a passover fifteen or sixteen. McDonald goes, you know when
- 5:16Speaker 1: you see it I like that, so if it's a
- 5:18Speaker 1: yard short or whatnot. That's why I included the nine
- 5:21Speaker 1: yard run in there, because I still thought that was
- 5:23Speaker 1: an exposed to play on the drive. Love what we
- 5:24Speaker 1: saw there from the Seahawks offense again. Then on the
- 5:28Speaker 1: ensuing drive, Aaron Rodgers hit Jalen Warren on a short pass.
- 5:30Speaker 1: He took that thing sixty five yards. Hell of a run,
- 5:34Speaker 1: made three or four guys, miss broke a bunch of tackles,
- 5:36Speaker 1: but he was chased down by Reek one and bump.
- 5:39Speaker 2: You talked about this a little bit.
- 5:40Speaker 1: I think on your show today, Greek one hell of
- 5:43Speaker 1: a play chases it down, and anyone who's played football
- 5:46Speaker 1: or coach shit, pursuit drill and save your angle.
- 5:49Speaker 2: That is it. Pursuit drill.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Say you line up some random coach who's in his
- 5:52Speaker 3: twenties because he's young and athletic. You get him the
- 5:54Speaker 3: football on one sideline and you have your defense get
- 5:57Speaker 3: in some type of formatage. You could be a two
- 5:59Speaker 3: high look or whatnot the way we did. You blow
- 6:01Speaker 3: the whistle they're doing up down bow. You get up
- 6:03Speaker 3: and now you're taking the right angle to the ball carrier.
- 6:05Speaker 3: As that coaches runs down the field. The last guy
- 6:09Speaker 3: to make a play on that pursude trial is the
- 6:11Speaker 3: corner who is furthest away from the ball. That was
- 6:14Speaker 3: Reek Man took the proper angle and saved a touchdown,
- 6:17Speaker 3: So biggest ree. I think Reek needed a play like that, absolutely,
- 6:20Speaker 3: especially off the week he had last week. So two
- 6:22Speaker 3: plays later, Darien Kendrick would pick off Aaron Rodgers m
- 6:25Speaker 3: the end zone, keeping the score tied at fourteen. So
- 6:28Speaker 3: ifrig don't make that play, they score a touchdown, you
- 6:31Speaker 3: don't get the opportunity to get that interception, and maybe
- 6:34Speaker 3: you feel a bit different. After back to back punts,
- 6:36Speaker 3: the Seahawks would add a field goal to make the
- 6:38Speaker 3: score fourteen or seventeen to fourteen, and then suing kick off,
- 6:42Speaker 3: the Seahawks special teams unit would come up big again
- 6:44Speaker 3: recovery and live ball for a touchdown in the end
- 6:47Speaker 3: zone by George Hallani.
- 6:48Speaker 2: Caleb Johnson forgot.
- 6:49Speaker 3: The rules and I was a huge break for the
- 6:51Speaker 3: Seahawks that made the score twenty four to fourteen. Here's
- 6:53Speaker 3: what here are my thoughts. Okay, I think in his
- 6:56Speaker 3: mind he was treating it as a punt. I was
- 6:58Speaker 3: explaining this to people who listening to the show to
- 7:00Speaker 3: in a punt, you punt the ball, the ball hisstaground
- 7:02Speaker 3: is dead.
- 7:03Speaker 2: Some as you touch it, no change of possession. Now
- 7:06Speaker 2: this is kickoff.
- 7:06Speaker 3: And also maybe he thought that he was in college
- 7:08Speaker 3: to where when the ball goes into the end zone
- 7:10Speaker 3: it is dead.
- 7:11Speaker 2: This is the NFL.
- 7:12Speaker 3: There's a reason why there are on site kicks and
- 7:14Speaker 3: there are pooch kicks because as soon as that ball
- 7:16Speaker 3: hits the ground, it is live. My man just forgot
- 7:20Speaker 3: where he was and who he was playing for.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Yeah, that was a tough play, and people forget these
- 7:25Speaker 1: guys are human. Yeah, but I'm sure coaches are pulling
- 7:28Speaker 1: their hair out because I guarantee you the special teams
- 7:31Speaker 1: coordinated for the Steelers went over that, or he was hot,
- 7:33Speaker 1: they probably went over it beforehand. I mean, you've been
- 7:36Speaker 1: a coacher, I'm sure there's times you can talk about
- 7:38Speaker 1: that before you go out on the field and still
- 7:40Speaker 1: have a mental air.
- 7:41Speaker 2: But on the Seahawks side, they're on it.
- 7:43Speaker 1: Gives a huge shout out to Brian Ayers, who's the
- 7:45Speaker 1: Seahawks director of football analytics in special situations, obviously, coach
- 7:50Speaker 1: Harbough and everyone they practice all these situations. But I
- 7:52Speaker 1: guess Brian Airs brought this up the night before the game,
- 7:55Speaker 1: this exact type of situation. Really it comes to fruition.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Everybody on the Seahawks new talked about it. And he's
- 8:01Speaker 1: hauling his butt down the field, going one hundred miles
- 8:04Speaker 1: an hour, and then has the president of mine, this
- 8:05Speaker 1: is the live ball. I gotta slow myself down, possess
- 8:08Speaker 1: it before you go out of bound. So everyone was
- 8:10Speaker 1: locked in just a game of execution, and one team
- 8:12Speaker 1: did it.
- 8:13Speaker 2: One team didn't coached up.
- 8:14Speaker 3: But you imagine Halani running down in him thinking, no
- 8:17Speaker 3: he didn't, No, he didn't, just let that football go.
- 8:19Speaker 3: And now he's jogging to the sideline. Hall Loti is
- 8:21Speaker 3: like free money baby.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Oh he's probably looking around. What teammates are gonna take
- 8:25Speaker 1: this from me? I need this touchout? But no, love
- 8:26Speaker 1: love the heads A play, huge play, huge play.
- 8:29Speaker 3: The Stillers would add a field goal on the following drive,
- 8:31Speaker 3: but the Seahawks would put the final nail in the
- 8:34Speaker 3: coffin with a seven play, seventy three yard drive any
- 8:37Speaker 3: with a nineteen yard touchdown by K nine.
- 8:39Speaker 2: We will break that play down later.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I love what we saw there that again that's finishing, right,
- 8:45Speaker 1: that's the Seahawks were really close against the Niners, and
- 8:47Speaker 1: they just didn't finish at the end of the game.
- 8:49Speaker 1: A completely different story against the Steelers. Kobe Bryant would
- 8:52Speaker 1: pick off Aaron Rodgers on the final possession walk away
- 8:55Speaker 1: with a thirty one to seventeen win. The Hawks out
- 8:57Speaker 1: gain the Steelers three ninety five or two sixty seven,
- 9:00Speaker 1: ran fourteen more plays than it did the week before
- 9:02Speaker 1: at sixty four. They were also six and fourteen on
- 9:04Speaker 1: third down. Overall, much improved bump. But at the end
- 9:09Speaker 1: of the day, you've had the chance to watch the
- 9:10Speaker 1: film over and over again.
- 9:11Speaker 2: What'd you learn from this week?
- 9:13Speaker 3: I learned that Koobiak can adjust the wide zone. The
- 9:17Speaker 3: toss is a staple in this offense. We know that,
- 9:19Speaker 3: but sometimes it just ain't working. And the Steelers did
- 9:22Speaker 3: a great job of getting that wide nine tech. And
- 9:25Speaker 3: there was some confusion with the guards on wish linebackers
- 9:27Speaker 3: of blocks. There were guys running free and you're getting
- 9:29Speaker 3: out leverage. Kopiak says, all right, forget all that. I'm
- 9:31Speaker 3: still gonna show you the toss every now and then
- 9:32Speaker 3: to keep you honest, but we're gonna go just zone
- 9:35Speaker 3: right down they get We're gonna double team these tackles
- 9:38Speaker 3: and get things going.
- 9:38Speaker 2: So he showed that he can adjust.
- 9:40Speaker 3: We also showed that Cooper cut was still playing please
- 9:42Speaker 3: one week and everyone's tripping. Cooper Cup can still get
- 9:46Speaker 3: it done. And also the defense showed that they are tough.
- 9:48Speaker 3: In the box. You go back and you watch the film,
- 9:50Speaker 3: Leo threw a man down on the ground who was
- 9:53Speaker 3: six six, three hundred and fifteen pounds. He made him
- 9:56Speaker 3: look like he was five to eleven, a buck ninety five,
- 9:58Speaker 3: like your boy like. He made that grown man looks small.
- 10:01Speaker 3: But the intensity in that box was great. And in
- 10:03Speaker 3: the defense turning getting turnovers once again, and Sam Darnold
- 10:06Speaker 3: being resilient after two interceptions. I bet if I went
- 10:09Speaker 3: on X people were lighting him up, saying get him
- 10:11Speaker 3: out of here, but he fought back, made the right plays,
- 10:14Speaker 3: and Jayson showed he's a number one. That forty three
- 10:17Speaker 3: yard reception We're gonna break down. That was man old
- 10:19Speaker 3: man him against Ramsey. He comes up with a big play.
- 10:21Speaker 1: No love it love everything, agree full sent on everything
- 10:25Speaker 1: you said for me. I think what I learned is confirmation.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Right.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Coach Donald talks about it all the time, a style
- 10:30Speaker 1: that no one else wants to play.
- 10:31Speaker 2: That's what that was.
- 10:32Speaker 1: You talking about the front seven, the physical nature of
- 10:35Speaker 1: what they're doing when you get hit. And then he
- 10:37Speaker 1: preaches through, not around, right, The Seahawks did not. They
- 10:41Speaker 1: went straight through the Steelers to make things happen. That's
- 10:43Speaker 1: Derek calls. He's getting to Aaron Rodgers enough. Aaron Rodgers
- 10:46Speaker 1: passed him on the butt saying nice, said, yo, fellow,
- 10:48Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying.
- 10:49Speaker 2: And then what I love is the depth and the secondary. Right.
- 10:52Speaker 1: So not having Devin Withers been one of the best
- 10:54Speaker 1: players at his position in the league, let alone on
- 10:56Speaker 1: this football team. Not having him, but no one blinked.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Darian Ken comes in. He wasn't on the team throughout camp.
- 11:02Speaker 1: He started games for the Rams, he played with Ernest Jones.
- 11:05Speaker 1: The Seahawks staff had full confidence in him. He comes in,
- 11:07Speaker 1: he plays like sixty four percent of the snaps, gets
- 11:09Speaker 1: a huge interception. The Anthony Bell was in the game,
- 11:12Speaker 1: Shaquille Griffins in. You know there wasn't a drop off
- 11:15Speaker 1: in the secondary when you lose someone like Spoon you're
- 11:17Speaker 1: expecting going up against someone like DK metcalf Covin Austin's
- 11:21Speaker 1: a good player. Fire mouth thrown around there. So I
- 11:23Speaker 1: love I love that. And then the last thing, I'll
- 11:25Speaker 1: say a lot of third downs. I didn't love how
- 11:27Speaker 1: many third and lungs they were in. But what I
- 11:29Speaker 1: loved is they converted on some of them, and they
- 11:31Speaker 1: gave themselves a chance multiple times. It might have been
- 11:33Speaker 1: third and fourteen they got thirteen yards. Yeah, third and
- 11:35Speaker 1: twelve they got eleven. They kept an opportunity to make
- 11:39Speaker 1: things happen and move the chains. So no, overall, great
- 11:42Speaker 1: performance by the Seahawks, and there was tons of people
- 11:45Speaker 1: who made plays times, some playmakers.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Playmakers told him what time.
- 11:56Speaker 1: Holy first playmaker was Starting with the wide receiver Jackson
- 12:01Speaker 1: Smith and Jgba eight receptions, one hundred and three yards
- 12:03Speaker 1: on ten targets. This was his fifth straight one hundred
- 12:07Speaker 1: yard or excuse me, the fifth hundred yard game of
- 12:09Speaker 1: Jackson's career and back to back games with one hundred yards.
- 12:12Speaker 1: And I love what we're saying. We're talking about. This
- 12:14Speaker 1: is this jumping third year, junior year, if you will,
- 12:17Speaker 1: in the NFL. He's taking that next step. He took
- 12:19Speaker 1: that step in college. He's doing it again here. And
- 12:23Speaker 1: you know his rookie season, he didn't have any hundred
- 12:24Speaker 1: yard games. Yeah, and then we saw that stretch when
- 12:27Speaker 1: DK went down last year. I could be a number
- 12:28Speaker 1: one receiver. You just said it in a minute ago.
- 12:30Speaker 1: He is proving each and every snap. Why is the
- 12:32Speaker 1: number of receiver? Why he gets open, Why he's Sam
- 12:35Speaker 1: Donald's favorite target.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Late in the game, one on one with Jalen Ramsey,
- 12:39Speaker 3: one of the best corners in this game the last
- 12:40Speaker 3: eight to nine seasons, and Sam Donald knows where he's
- 12:44Speaker 3: going with the football, no safety help over the top,
- 12:46Speaker 3: He run a post and with Ramsey on your hip,
- 12:49Speaker 3: you make the play. That's number one receiver type performance
- 12:53Speaker 3: right there. I'm happy for JSN. And you know what
- 12:55Speaker 3: Cooper Cup helped. He helped him. I'm gonna go to
- 12:57Speaker 3: Cooper Cup right seven receptions, ninety yards, nine targets, only
- 13:01Speaker 3: have three targets against San Francisco.
- 13:03Speaker 2: It's almost like you're starting to just warm.
- 13:06Speaker 3: Up the vehicle. The vehicles getting warm. It's been tucked
- 13:10Speaker 3: away for the winter. It's a summertime vehicle, and now
- 13:12Speaker 3: it's starting to maneuver. With Cooper Cup performing at a
- 13:15Speaker 3: high level, that's only gonna help Jason continue to be
- 13:18Speaker 3: the guy we know he can be.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Yeah, love what we're seeing from the receiving unit. Put
- 13:21Speaker 1: it back to the quarterback. Sam Darnold twenty two of
- 13:24Speaker 1: thirty three, two hundred and ninety five yards, two touchdowns.
- 13:26Speaker 1: He did have the two interceptions, but you talked about
- 13:28Speaker 1: resiliency and a lot of the place he made. He
- 13:30Speaker 1: made a ton of clutch plays.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Down the stretch.
- 13:33Speaker 1: My favorite is the one on third down where Free
- 13:36Speaker 1: blitz up the middle and he spins to his left,
- 13:38Speaker 1: gets out of it, finds Barner, continues to drive, then
- 13:41Speaker 1: finds JSN and just plays like that.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Right.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Most people wouldn't put that in Sam Darnold's toolbox, elusiveness,
- 13:48Speaker 1: figuring ways they out. But dude to just a playmaker,
- 13:50Speaker 1: and I love what we saw from him on Sunday.
- 13:52Speaker 3: Sam, keep being a thing. K nine is back. He
- 13:54Speaker 3: hads to remind people you must forgot, is what he said,
- 13:56Speaker 3: all right. Thirteen carries one hundred and five yards, one touchdown,
- 13:59Speaker 3: first one h hundred yard games this week one last
- 14:02Speaker 3: week against Denver, he passed my former teammate Maurice Morris
- 14:06Speaker 3: for tenth place on Seattle's all time rushing list with
- 14:09Speaker 3: two thousand, six hundred and fifty three. The nineteen yard
- 14:13Speaker 3: touchdown was clutch. That was and that was on third
- 14:16Speaker 3: and long.
- 14:17Speaker 2: It was a thirding goal. But yeah, it was like
- 14:18Speaker 2: thirty nineteen.
- 14:19Speaker 3: You're running that play, all right, Maybe we break it,
- 14:21Speaker 3: possibly just line up for a field goal. Canine says,
- 14:23Speaker 3: not on trip, I got you. Lineman did a great
- 14:25Speaker 3: job blocking on that play as well. But no, K
- 14:27Speaker 3: nine was downhill. There was no dance, and then when
- 14:30Speaker 3: he did dance, it was dancing with purpose, like it
- 14:32Speaker 3: made sense when he was dancing, but he got downhill.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Love the way he played. Yeah, no, I think you
- 14:36Speaker 2: said it just right, Ken Walker man.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Everyone was ready to abandon him because he had he
- 14:41Speaker 1: didn't have the greatest game in the stat book. There's
- 14:42Speaker 1: so many things, just like receivers that have to go
- 14:44Speaker 1: right for running back to have success. Yep, it's a
- 14:46Speaker 1: Tannam unit. Just like Zach Sharberney was unlucky this last
- 14:51Speaker 1: week too. He's not all of a sudden the bad
- 14:52Speaker 1: football player exactly. So give him some grace. But lovel
- 14:55Speaker 1: we saw from Ken Walker, then Byron Murphy the young man.
- 14:58Speaker 1: I think I love the jumpies taken in his second
- 15:00Speaker 1: year football season. I think he's gonna do great for
- 15:02Speaker 1: the Seahawks. Five tackles, one and a half sacks, one TfL,
- 15:05Speaker 1: three QB hits.
- 15:06Speaker 2: And I found this cool out from next Gen stats.
- 15:09Speaker 1: The Seahawks generated pressure on forty percent of Rogers dropbacks
- 15:12Speaker 1: when rushing four fewer defenders, which resulted in thirteen pressures
- 15:16Speaker 1: in three sacks on those plays. The Hawks only blitz
- 15:19Speaker 1: on four dropbacks, probably because they're getting home with four
- 15:22Speaker 1: big reason of that was Byron Murphy. He's making an
- 15:24Speaker 1: impact rushing the passer as well as in the middle
- 15:27Speaker 1: in that run game. So a level ro team for Byron.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Yeah, Byron, that might have been his best game as
- 15:31Speaker 2: a pro. I don't think might have. I think it's pretty.
- 15:33Speaker 3: So all right, So well you heard it here and
- 15:35Speaker 3: that's the best game as a pro. And last, but
- 15:37Speaker 3: not least, got Ernest Jones man ten tackles, nine solo,
- 15:40Speaker 3: led the team in tackles. And what Ernest Jones did
- 15:42Speaker 3: too is like after the play, I'm watching his emotion,
- 15:44Speaker 3: how he's talking to guys and getting them going. He's
- 15:47Speaker 3: the guy out there. There are multiple leaders. You look
- 15:49Speaker 3: at Leo Jy Reed as well, Jay Love, but Ernest
- 15:52Speaker 3: Jones He's He's comfortable in his role here in Seattle.
- 15:56Speaker 2: No question about it. Love it.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Ever since the day he stepped foot in this building,
- 15:59Speaker 1: he has been a bumple foot it over the wide
- 16:01Speaker 1: receiver round up. We said it last week. I think
- 16:04Speaker 1: it's gonna look a little bit better this week, and
- 16:06Speaker 1: it definitely did.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Little Mo Betta, you got JSN leading the way eight
- 16:10Speaker 3: receptions on ten targets for one to oh three a long.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Of forty three.
- 16:13Speaker 3: Cooper Cup really got the party going, honestly in the
- 16:15Speaker 3: past game seven receptions on nine targets for ninety yards.
- 16:18Speaker 3: Tory Horton has his first touchdown as a pro. He
- 16:21Speaker 3: had two receptions for thirty two to one touchdown. Elijah
- 16:24Speaker 3: Arroyo had a big play as well. He had a
- 16:26Speaker 3: twenty four yard game. He had two receptions for thirty one. A. J.
- 16:29Speaker 3: Barner scores his first first touchdown this year. He's sneaky
- 16:32Speaker 3: had four touchdowns last year. I didn't realize that till
- 16:34Speaker 3: I went back and looked at him. He had one
- 16:35Speaker 3: touchdown two for twenty six and Keneth Walker, Hey, you
- 16:38Speaker 3: just run the rock. But well, we accept your contributions
- 16:41Speaker 3: to the past game. He had one reception for thirteen yards.
- 16:44Speaker 2: It was it's bounced. It's more bounced. That was gonna happen.
- 16:47Speaker 1: We know the week one against San Francisco's lofsided for
- 16:49Speaker 1: a reason, but that was more balanced. And now for
- 16:51Speaker 1: one of our favorite segments right here's plays of the game.
- 16:54Speaker 1: This first one, we're talking about Tory Horton, the rookie
- 16:56Speaker 1: wide receiver, getting his first career touchdown.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Arnold has time, gonna throw it to the near side.
- 17:02Speaker 5: He's got a man touchdown Shayhawks and it's the rookie
- 17:07Speaker 5: Tory Horton reaches down, makes the catch, the Seahawks a
- 17:12Speaker 5: nine play drive. They pay it off with a twenty
- 17:15Speaker 5: one yard touchdown pass to Tory Horton, and the Seahawks
- 17:20Speaker 5: are on the board with their first possession of the game.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Man, so happy for Tory in this situation. So you
- 17:25Speaker 3: have a twelve personnel and that's one running back in
- 17:28Speaker 3: the backfield by himself. You have two tight ends and
- 17:30Speaker 3: kind of like the wing position, you got JSN to
- 17:33Speaker 3: the bottom the right of Sam Donald, and you have
- 17:35Speaker 3: Tory Horton to the left of Sam Donald a little
- 17:38Speaker 3: tight to that tight end over there. It's gonna happen
- 17:41Speaker 3: as Sam Donald he snaps a hikes to football fakes
- 17:44Speaker 3: the hand off to our guy, Zach Sharvin name the
- 17:47Speaker 3: two linebackers. Outside linebackers are gonna flow with the tight end.
- 17:50Speaker 3: You got one to the left of Sam Donald keeping
- 17:53Speaker 3: an eye. I think that sobered over there, and you
- 17:55Speaker 3: have another one to the right of Sam Donald flowing
- 17:58Speaker 3: with the tight end that releases in the flap. What
- 18:00Speaker 3: happens with JSN He is running a crossing route. This
- 18:02Speaker 3: is a game playing type of thing. He's running that
- 18:05Speaker 3: cross the route. As soon as that safety realizes Jasn
- 18:08Speaker 3: is running the crossing route, He's gonna jump down to
- 18:10Speaker 3: help that corner who has him manned ub. What that
- 18:12Speaker 3: does it frees up Horton to be one on one
- 18:15Speaker 3: with this guy. He already has leverage on him. He's
- 18:17Speaker 3: running a crossing route. All he has to do is
- 18:19Speaker 3: run to space. But a piece of this thing that
- 18:22Speaker 3: I think people need to really appreciate and understam is
- 18:24Speaker 3: that Sam Donald stayed in.
- 18:26Speaker 2: That pocket and took a big hit.
- 18:28Speaker 3: You guy, Zach Charbonnay, who's responsible for Queen trying to
- 18:30Speaker 3: help out on that blitz. You also have I believe
- 18:33Speaker 3: that is Sundale. I've seen with Sundeal. Yeah, Gray's Abel
- 18:37Speaker 3: over there helping out with that one. Tech tries to
- 18:39Speaker 3: help out with Queen, but Queen, being one of the
- 18:40Speaker 3: best backers in the game, splits both of those guys,
- 18:43Speaker 3: and Sam is looking down the barrel of the gun
- 18:45Speaker 3: and says, I gotta stand here allow for this receiver
- 18:48Speaker 3: to open up in Horton take a hit, but deliver
- 18:51Speaker 3: a ball. That's the toughness of Sam Donald and Horton
- 18:55Speaker 3: being fast enough to make a play.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Yeah, there's so many good things that happen on this play.
- 18:59Speaker 1: And you mentioned it from the defensive secondary perspective. If
- 19:03Speaker 1: I see, it's a two man route, right, because Oots
- 19:05Speaker 1: is lined up essentially as the tight end on the
- 19:07Speaker 1: one side and Sebert the other side.
- 19:09Speaker 2: Two man route.
- 19:10Speaker 1: If I'm looking, if I'm in the secondary and I
- 19:12Speaker 1: see where number eleven is, yeah, and it's essentially kind
- 19:14Speaker 1: of a man free situation.
- 19:16Speaker 2: I am going to where number eleven is.
- 19:17Speaker 1: That's exactly what the safety does as he makes that
- 19:19Speaker 1: break though, because Sam Darnald does a great job of
- 19:22Speaker 1: looking Jays Santa Cross holding that safety a little bit.
- 19:26Speaker 1: And then because the safety decides to make a break,
- 19:29Speaker 1: Jalen Ramsey has to take a high angle. He's already
- 19:32Speaker 1: an outside trail tech. He's already no outside technique and
- 19:34Speaker 1: now he to not run into his teammate. He has
- 19:37Speaker 1: to take a higher angle and at that point, no
- 19:39Speaker 1: chance Tory Horton is fast. There's I mean anything in
- 19:43Speaker 1: the secondary's levels right. Anytime the offense runs those kind
- 19:46Speaker 1: of plays in man situations, even if you have a
- 19:48Speaker 1: free safety who's roman. That's hard to do and it
- 19:51Speaker 1: showed up and like you said, Sam Donald tough his
- 19:53Speaker 1: nails like that to be able to just stand in
- 19:56Speaker 1: there and not flinch and deliver a perfect ball. Love
- 19:59Speaker 1: what we saw before, seeing a lot of great plays
- 20:01Speaker 1: are you know from everyone on that play Getting Tory
- 20:04Speaker 1: Horden in the end zone another good play that kind
- 20:07Speaker 1: of got the party started. This kind of finished at
- 20:09Speaker 1: Ken Walker getting in the end zone.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Nineteen yard touchdown, third and goal from the nineteen Walker
- 20:14Speaker 4: now in the backfield, jsn wind to the left side
- 20:17Speaker 4: and Walker's gonna get the toss.
- 20:18Speaker 2: He's going left side, He's got some blocking. He turns up.
- 20:20Speaker 4: Philly's down at tip to five touchdown Shayhawks Ken Walker
- 20:25Speaker 4: the third. If the Steelers are gonna load up near
- 20:29Speaker 4: the line of scrimmage, Walker is gonna flank in to
- 20:31Speaker 4: the left and run.
- 20:33Speaker 2: Right past you. And he does.
- 20:35Speaker 5: The Seahawks score again. It is thirty to seventeen.
- 20:41Speaker 2: Third and long situation here.
- 20:42Speaker 3: You got the Pittsburgh Steelers are only gonna rush for
- 20:45Speaker 3: They're gonna drop seven.
- 20:46Speaker 2: All they're trying to do is let's get to the football.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Let's make a tackle and allow these guys to force
- 20:51Speaker 3: these guys to kick a field goal. You have Sam
- 20:54Speaker 3: Donald in shotgun position. What he's gonna do he is
- 20:56Speaker 3: is gonna do a little toss to Kanine. But I
- 20:59Speaker 3: want to look at Sober does a great job sealing
- 21:02Speaker 3: that edge, which allows Charles Cross to wrap around and
- 21:05Speaker 3: I'll become a lead blocker for K nine trying to
- 21:07Speaker 3: get to the outside. You also have your guards who
- 21:10Speaker 3: release to the second level. They're just trying to find bodies.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Let the bodies hit the flow, trying to find some bodies.
- 21:15Speaker 3: And also you have JSN who might have missed his
- 21:17Speaker 3: initial block, but as soon as he misses that initial block,
- 21:19Speaker 3: he terms a film and he's looking for work. The
- 21:21Speaker 3: work he's looking for. Grey z Ab already has that handle.
- 21:24Speaker 3: He's going to that safety and he's knocking him down.
- 21:26Speaker 2: Now.
- 21:26Speaker 3: K nine does a good job of getting wide, getting
- 21:29Speaker 3: north and south and just following the white jerseys. This
- 21:32Speaker 3: is what you call an escort to the end zone.
- 21:35Speaker 3: You got your guards getting to the second level. You
- 21:38Speaker 3: have your tackle wrapping around as a lead blocker. You
- 21:40Speaker 3: have your tight end sealing that age for you receivers
- 21:42Speaker 3: getting downfilled. And the rest is God giving the ability
- 21:45Speaker 3: from your man K nine.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I'll tell you this, looking at from the defensive side.
- 21:51Speaker 1: If I see number sixty seven pulling around the edge
- 21:54Speaker 1: and I got forced up the corner out there, good luck,
- 21:57Speaker 1: good luck to you, hey, hey, especially now, because you
- 22:00Speaker 1: can't just try.
- 22:00Speaker 2: To cut their legs out. So you gotta play football.
- 22:03Speaker 1: You gotta do that dance thing when you're kind of
- 22:05Speaker 1: pretending you no, it was good night. You love to
- 22:07Speaker 1: see that. And then on the backside too, So I
- 22:11Speaker 1: kind of looked at this play, I'm like, Okay, why
- 22:12Speaker 1: isn't anyone else getting to the play. I'm thinking, where's
- 22:15Speaker 1: Patrick Queen at? Why is he not getting into the play? Well,
- 22:17Speaker 1: it looks like he kind of undercuts. I believe that's
- 22:20Speaker 1: on the backside climbing to the second level. I believe
- 22:23Speaker 1: that was Bradford, whoever it was, he tried to got underneath,
- 22:26Speaker 1: and Patrick Queen kind of cuts underneath instead of fighting
- 22:29Speaker 1: over the top. If he fights over the top, I
- 22:30Speaker 1: think he might be able to get in this play.
- 22:32Speaker 1: He cuts the underneath, thinking some of his teammates are
- 22:34Speaker 1: going to force it back to him. Does not happen,
- 22:36Speaker 1: and he's not a factor in this play. And it's
- 22:38Speaker 1: just effort. You said, you talked about a Gray's able
- 22:40Speaker 1: getting to the next level everybody. And it's fun to
- 22:43Speaker 1: see because this is the type of football that the
- 22:45Speaker 1: Seahawks want to play and I love I love to
- 22:47Speaker 1: see it. So the guys are balling out, they're playing well,
- 22:50Speaker 1: and that brings us to a formation we haven't got
- 22:53Speaker 1: to do this year. It's one of our favorite ones,
- 22:55Speaker 1: victory formation.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Here comes the Seahawk offense onto.
- 22:59Speaker 4: The field in the Vikings defense, crunching out there knowing
- 23:04Speaker 4: that one meal down and the Seahawks are gonna line
- 23:07Speaker 4: the clock.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Down and win this one. It's the victory formation on
- 23:11Speaker 2: Hawk Talk.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Seahawks went on the road across the country get the
- 23:15Speaker 1: job done. Again's a good Steelers ball club they in
- 23:17Speaker 1: the second half. The Seahawks cash in on all their opportunities.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Week one, it was about missed opportunities. They played well,
- 23:23Speaker 1: they were the better team, didn't cash in when they
- 23:25Speaker 1: needed to. That was not the case on Sunday. They
- 23:27Speaker 1: did everything they needed to do, outscoring the Steelers twenty
- 23:30Speaker 1: four to three in the second half.
- 23:32Speaker 3: K nine went for over hunting on the ground, Jay
- 23:34Speaker 3: sim went over one hundred.
- 23:36Speaker 2: Through the air. He had a big special teams play.
- 23:38Speaker 3: If you can do that every single week, man, I
- 23:39Speaker 3: think you have a chance to win ball games man.
- 23:42Speaker 3: In The Hawks held DKs to three receptions for twenty yards.
- 23:46Speaker 3: Discore a touchdown, but we'll take those type of numbers.
- 23:48Speaker 1: No question about it, especially with all the you know,
- 23:51Speaker 1: everyone can downplayed as much as they want DK of course,
- 23:54Speaker 1: you know that was a big game and someone of
- 23:56Speaker 1: his caliber. We talked about it with a secondary missing
- 23:59Speaker 1: dev Witherspoon to hold in the three R twenty receptions.
- 24:02Speaker 1: We haven't mentioned his name once yet, Shame on me.
- 24:04Speaker 1: Josh Joe, Yeah, totally smokes man. Yeah, played some great football.
- 24:08Speaker 1: You talked about it some teach tape. The way he
- 24:10Speaker 1: speaks for everything that he does is so technically sound.
- 24:13Speaker 1: And he's playing great ball. Yes, great ball. So leve
- 24:15Speaker 1: what we saw from them, and then up front getting
- 24:17Speaker 1: making pressure on Aaron Rodgers. He will hit eight time,
- 24:20Speaker 1: sacked three times. That's a winning recipe. Mm hmm, we'll
- 24:22Speaker 1: do it, big win. Spoon wasn't in the game. Nick
- 24:27Speaker 1: wasn't in the game. We mentioned all the other backups.
- 24:29Speaker 1: Thank you for pointing out Josh Joe because he needs
- 24:31Speaker 1: some love. And uh now it's time to move all along.
- 24:34Speaker 1: You got the Saints coming into town.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Man.
- 24:36Speaker 2: We got to handle this one.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Absolutely, you know in the Saints while oh and two
- 24:40Speaker 1: we're gonna do dive into all this on the preview pod.
- 24:43Speaker 1: They played two close games against our NFC West rivals
- 24:45Speaker 1: unfortunately didn't help us out thanks New Orleans and two
- 24:48Speaker 1: against but it'll be it'll be fun week.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Welcome in the Saints to town.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Alva Kamara, Senser Ratler, there's a lot of good players
- 24:54Speaker 1: on that ball club. But that is gonna do it
- 24:57Speaker 1: for us. Sees Michael Bumpus on NASA Tropy. This has
- 25:00Speaker 1: been another edition of Hawk Talk. Make sure you are
- 25:02Speaker 1: listening to us on YouTube, watching US series, Xmapple Podcast,
- 25:06Speaker 1: Sehawks dot Com and more. Seahawks get it done on
- 25:09Speaker 1: the road thirty one seventeen over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 25:12Speaker 2: This has been Hawk Talk. Talk to you next time.
