- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: Hello, welcome to the M&QB podcast, I'm Conoror and that's Albert Brear and Albert, I'm thinking about the Sun Sunday and I'll tell you why.
- 0:15[SPEAKER_01]: A couple of months ago, I walked out of my house to go get my kids at the bus stop.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: I looked over at where my car is normally parked, didn't see it.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_01]: Ran over to a neighbor's house, burst into the door, screamed at my car, got stolen and asked them to call the police.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: then about two seconds later I turned around and I looked at the other parking spot in my house and my car was sitting right there.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: And I say that to say this, there are times in your life.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: where for no reason at all, all the lights go out in your brain.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: And you do something inexplicably stupid.
- 0:53[SPEAKER_01]: You leave your coffee on top of the car and you drive away.
- 0:57[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's a million different answers.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_01]: And what's weird about professional football is these guys are no different than us.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_01]: This happens to them, but sometimes it happens to them at work and a million people are watching.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_01]: And then, you know, like, it looks like
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: I remember once you know how like football gloves are sticky.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_00]: So I was driving to my son's practice once and I put his gloves on top of the car as I was like throwing stuff in the car to go.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: And then because the gloves were sticky, they wound up making it to practice with us.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_00]: So save me from, yeah, I have a lot of moments like that, but that was fun that was funny or it was like.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess, you know, you understand that I'm bringing up giants, commanders, and the day two on this, as we record this at nine o'clock on Monday morning, and after we spent all night writing about it, and my god, I've watched the end of this game like the Sepurutor film.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: I've watched it three hundred times, and I've listened to all the interviews,
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: And I think what's unsatisfying is like almost like the Kennedy assassination.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's no like definitive answer.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Like who made the mistake because Dan Quincy saying, it's my fault.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_01]: I should have clocked it earlier, which is true.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_01]: They shouldn't have even been in that position.
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: They shouldn't have even ran that play.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: Jane Daniels is saying, oh, it's a, you know, I got to bring that up in the huddle.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: The players are saying that someone in the huddle said they had no timeouts.
- 2:31[SPEAKER_01]: So what the hell happened?
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: And if you missed it, Giants 27, Commanders 27, Clock Management issues are how we're going to start the show and then we're going to get into the review of the weekend.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: But this game literally, the Commanders just kept running plays and didn't stop the clock.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: The clock ran out no overtime and it was a tie game.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, the problem is that like this is something that
- 2:57[SPEAKER_00]: It shouldn't catch anybody by surprise when something like this happens, you know, and you should be drilling this in practice over and over again.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I can tell you for a fact, like the commanders, like they're focused.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: This is what's crazy about it.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_00]: They're focused during training camp was on generating game-like situations.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like they were constantly in game-like situations to try to get their onto Jones and David Blow up to speed and ready to call it, you know, for the first time as NFL coordinator.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: There's really no great excuse, and if you ask me who it's on, it's on everybody, it's on everybody.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, listen, like, I think anybody who, there's the complicated stuff in football, and there's a simple, simple stuff in football, and I think,
- 3:44[SPEAKER_00]: a part of like having poise and being trained is mastering the simple stuff so you can tackle the complicated stuff, right?
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_00]: And this is the simple stuff that anybody, I mean, you don't have to have ever played a snap of the game to understand, okay, like,
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: There's X amount of time left, and I can't put myself in a situation where if like the clock is running, I've got to hit the deck.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: And unfortunately, it felt like there was a lot of panic in general there, you know, at the very end.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: which that falls on Dan Quinn.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: There's no question about it.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that he would take the blame for it.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: And he did.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: And he did.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_00]: It falls on Jane Daniels.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: You are the the battleship commander, you know, and someone said it in the hotel, who said it in the hotel, right?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Who said it in the hotel?
- 4:38[SPEAKER_00]: Was it you?
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Because if it was you,
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: like I think this is less likely to happen and also you're less likely to make the mistake yourself, you know.
- 4:46[SPEAKER_00]: So it's just like the overall command of the situation.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: I like it's got to be better.
- 4:53[SPEAKER_00]: And to me it's it's hard to excuse this one away.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: And now, you know, the giants wound up escaping coming back from a two touchdown deficit in horrible conditions.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I think they're a game
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that so and the commander's kind of pulled into a tie with the cowboys' needles, but they're in in last place and is that the worst division in the league?
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think the NFC South would have something to say about it, but by the panthers have come around the Falcons look better, Falcons look better.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_01]: That is, we'll get to that, because we're going to talk about the Falcons.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like they deserve a little bit of a broader conversation.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to hit that at the back end of the show.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_01]: But I'll I ask you this, and the reason that I think this is so important.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_01]: is because the anger in the vitriol behind this was so real.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, you had magic Johnson, I know.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: I know.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: And magic Johnson is like classic magic Johnson terms too, right?
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, he's a part owner of the of the commanders.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: And if you guys Twitter pay, she just said something like, oh, man, we should have just kicked the field.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: Why do we do this?
- 6:17[SPEAKER_01]: And at the same time, I think we could all fairly say.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a difference between us stating a fact and what we would do with Dan Quinn personally knowing the job that he did with the Falcons, knowing the relationships he has with the players, I'm not the owner of the commanders, but I think it was fair to say that he was on thin ice going into this one and I wonder if a very very embarrassing.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: high profile loss like that does anything to change how we're looking at this thing long term.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think the only thing probably saving them there is there's no obvious interim candidate on that.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's like
- 7:00[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously, there's a lot of pressure on a lot of people in that building this year.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_00]: You know, even the players, like I said, Jaden's playing to have his option picked up to be extended after this year to get life changing money.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and the questions that exists now on Jaden Daniels did not exist two years ago, you know, and like I think you are starting to ask that big picture question of what you do after this year and whether or not you extend them it in a way, I think it's sort of mirrors.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: where the where the the Texans were with CJ Stroud last year at this point, you know, like where it's you've seen like the the ceiling, but you've also seen the floor and now you have to kind of figure out how much you trust where you're going with them and moments like this can wind up being flash points for for teams for coaches for players.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: They just don't have your crap together and I think.
- 7:55[SPEAKER_00]: Well, here's the thing right.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: I remember this conversation with Chip Kelly, and this is like the second straight we can bring them up, Chip.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: So please, I love Chip.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: You can bring up Chip whenever you want in this show.
- 8:06[SPEAKER_00]: But I remember this conversation with him about like lessons he learned from his time in the NFL.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: And like I believe like this was after, you know, he was fired by the Eagles and he went to the Niners.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: And one thing you said about his time with the Eagles is we did not spend enough time on situational football.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, I was in college and he was like, and you knew in college, like you were going to win eight of your games by 30, you know?
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: And so it gave you time to like kind of work on all this big picture stuff and you didn't have to worry about the situational stuff quite as much.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, when I got to the NFL, I realized that those five, six, seven plays are everything.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Those five, six, seven plays are the difference between winning and losing.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: And in a lot of cases, those five or six or seven plays determine whether or not you're seeing as a good coach or not.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: Crazy is that sounds.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: And you're handling of those situations because the talent, the
- 9:01[SPEAKER_00]: There isn't a lot of bad players in the NFL.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: There aren't a lot of people who are overmatched in the NFL.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: And so, you know, where is the difference?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: The difference is on third down.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: The difference is in the red zone.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: And the difference is at the end of games.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's why these things become bigger picture of questions, you know, is how, how you're viewing this from an ownership perspective and you're looking at it from an ownership perspective and the way you're looking at it is, is this guy's job to help me win on the margins and like this is an example of of of there being loose ends when it comes to that.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Here's why it sucks because I've arrived at the conclusion and, you know, I'm not sure what your ultimate take on this is.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I know we said like, yes, it's a little bit of everybody's fault.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's a lot of bit Jayden Daniels is fine.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, right.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: And and and and every time I go through all the checklist, you know, the play call in the huddle is take the snap.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_01]: if you don't have what you like throw the ball away like that's the call that that's exactly what it is that's how they block it if you look at how they're blocking it like they're blocking it so that you're not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it's not there if it
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: There's only one thing you can't do and he did that and after the he literally there's only one thing you really can't do.
- 10:39[SPEAKER_01]: The word salad coming from Jaden was so weird because he says it's from the top down and then and you can maybe say in that moment he's just still rattled right and he's not going to be a great orator but like the the thing is like
- 10:56[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't really, he wasn't convincing enough to me to be like, no, no, no, no, that I messed that up.
- 11:00[SPEAKER_01]: That's totally on me.
- 11:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like to leave it in a gray area where it's like, where you even kind of put it on to Dan Quinn's plate, seems off.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's a tough end.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_01]: That's a tough end.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: That's a really, like, so two things on Jane Dangles, a positive and a negative, right?
- 11:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think we saw something similar to this in the first game of the season.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_00]: right from Drake May where the decision he made at the end of that Seattle game was so horrific that it like left a mark for a couple of weeks right where he threw like the one like they they had a chance all they all they had to do all they had to do was force over time right in that situation and if they score touchdown that's a bonus and he threw into a team
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: So like, the positive is like, yeah, that left a little bit of a mark with Drake made, but he's come out of it, like good.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_00]: So you can come out of this and you can learn from it.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: The flip side is what you just said, which is I.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: I always think with the quarterback, right?
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I think this is like part of the price of being the highest paid, the highest profile, you, the access that you get playing that position, the benefits you get put all that stuff that comes along with playing that position.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_00]: is that it's on you, right?
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: So I remember the old Tom Brady saying, which was, when we lose, it's me when we win, it's we.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: And I know that sounds corny and everything, but there's a reality to it.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_00]: That's how you win your locker room.
- 12:42[SPEAKER_00]: That's how you have your coaches fighting for you.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: Can you imagine Patrick Mahalm saying that?
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: I can't even envision him saying it.
- 12:58[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: I can't even envision Patrick Mahalm saying something that leaves something vague like that, right?
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: Did we ever hear Josh Allen Blame Sean McDermott?
- 13:08[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_01]: Or even, or even,
- 13:11[SPEAKER_01]: or even put it in a position where or there could interpret it that way.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the thing that bugs me a little bit like about this is like, was that a mistake or were you trying to be slick?
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and that bothers me a little bit too.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_00]: And just,
- 13:31[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you start to put some of the pieces together here and it's easy it's getting easier to put get yourself to a place where you see, okay, like there's a little bit of growing up that needs to happen here right.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: All right, let's pivot on to where you're going to take two games, but I'm going to start with the Eagles and Jaguars because Well, that's another one in the same category right obviously ended in the same category and and so this game was.
- 13:59[SPEAKER_01]: wild to me because so if you were like me and you're kind of watching NFL Sunday from start to finish The Jaguars win 17 to 19 the Eagles get into field goal position and they kick a Effectively a game winning field goal at 17 16
- 14:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm sitting there and I'm like, okay, cool, let me get my TV set up, you know, I'm looking around and I'm getting the giants over here and then I'm getting the laptop set up so that I know, you know, all my games that I want to watch.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_01]: I turn around and I just pull up ESPN and I was like, wait, the Jaguar's part.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: I held it the Jaguar's with the game.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like I thought it was over.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_01]: And so, I'll put these into two different buckets.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_01]: So, because Nick Seria and he's getting absolutely waxed for this today.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and he kicked to the Jaguars.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and then the Jaguars returned the ball to a spot where Cam little could hit the kick and over time.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: Hit the kick and, and, and right as the buzzer goes off, and the Jaguars win, talk about the rest of the game in a second.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that Cereon is being lumped in with the commanders, and I don't think that's fair because didn't we just get killed, didn't we just kill Brian Schott andheimer?
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: We're not doing exactly what Nick Cereon he did.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: Which is it?
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 15:25[SPEAKER_00]: Or that's actually a kind of a tough decision, you know what I mean?
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I think we just got done freaking smoking, Brian shot andheimer, for not doing what Nick Serianny did in London.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: And for some to return it.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, no, it's just, and I would love to see if we maybe somebody can put together
- 15:54[SPEAKER_00]: going to be a week ago or two weeks ago for this.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then killing Seriani to explore it.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 16:01[SPEAKER_01]: And Zach Burman, who I love, covers the Eagles very good friend of mine.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_01]: He brought up a great point that a couple weeks ago, the Eagles were in a tight situation against the Titans.
- 16:13[SPEAKER_01]: And Seriani did the opposite.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: He kicked the ball at a bounce because he wanted to specifically avoid the returner for Tennessee because they were having a hard time with them or whatever.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_01]: And you can say yes.
- 16:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the Eagles did give up a return score in this game, so shouldn't they be in the same frame of mind.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_01]: But here's what Seriani's thinking in this, and I'm not necessarily a Seriani defender.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think Nick is a fine coach, but like
- 16:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the back in next mind, Cam Little can hit a 70 yard feel goal, right?
- 16:44[SPEAKER_01]: And he has repeatedly.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: And so do you want to spot him at the 35?
- 16:52[SPEAKER_01]: with a chance for the jacks to get one quick plan.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: So then you would need down 15 yards or so.
- 16:59[SPEAKER_00]: You needed immediate 15 yards and a spike.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_00]: What you could get in five or six seconds.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_01]: Probably.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: It'd be tight, but you could maybe get that in five.
- 17:09[SPEAKER_01]: Did they have a time out?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_01]: No, I'm not remembering.
- 17:12[SPEAKER_01]: I don't believe so.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_01]: But.
- 17:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's what you're trying to avoid, right, and I get it.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think if I was sitting in that situation, I would have probably been thinking the same thing, where I'm more worried about Cam Little and knowing that
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: he can hit that long of a field goal because that to me just seems like the more obvious threat.
- 17:37[SPEAKER_01]: Now, again, you can argue that Ciriani's coverage team wasn't good all day, and so he should have had his eyes out for that, however, you know, it's a tough situation, right?
- 17:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not like this is what he always does.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's opponent specific.
- 17:53[SPEAKER_00]: So, but he's always out of time out as part of the way.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: I just looked it up.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_01]: They were out of time out.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 17:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, this drops the Eagles to two and three.
- 18:00[SPEAKER_01]: The Jaguars are up to four and one.
- 18:05[SPEAKER_01]: This, I want to ask you this.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_01]: And I know where I stand on this.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I know that there's, this is like the two of thing, where there's two camps and it's like Democrat and Republican.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_01]: You're not allowed to cross sides here.
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: But,
- 18:22[SPEAKER_01]: At what point are we going to stop saying, wow, Sean Manion is a lot like Kevin Patulo and start saying, well, Jalen Hertz has been here for both of these guys.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean, and like and and and at what point is it a Jalen issue and at what point is it a run game offensive line talent issue.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: This is the one of the worst second half offense is ever.
- 18:47[SPEAKER_01]: And it's been every single week this team just runs out of gas, runs out of ideas, runs out of efficiency on offense.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what to say about it.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_00]: Here's the thing, like I just, there's part of me that looks at this and says, when you hire Sean Mannion who had coached for two years to be your coordinator, you have to build in the fact that it's going to take some time.
- 19:11[SPEAKER_00]: And on top of that, like Sean Manion's coming from a system that demands a lot of detail, right?
- 19:17[SPEAKER_00]: And it demands the quarterback play a certain way.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I think it's fair to question the fit.
- 19:23[SPEAKER_00]: Now, I think the Eagles blew through those stop signs because they wanted that run game, right?
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like they wanted, they wanted to fix the run game and they felt like going to that family of coaches to get the run game made sense.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: But
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: What good does it do to hire somebody like that if five games in it's like let's fire him right mean like you never gave him a chance to grow into the role so what were you doing hiring somebody like that in the first place that's the question was you fit for you quarterback all of it right and so I
- 19:59[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, man, I'm like, I thought the Eagles were going to level off before the year.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: And now I look at their, and I thought they actually battled yesterday, like, I give them credit.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that was a wild offensive line situation.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_00]: You lose Drew Kendall, right?
- 20:13[SPEAKER_00]: Like, so he's not out there, right?
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're, you got two guys in your offensive line that are making their first start.
- 20:19[SPEAKER_00]: You got a rookie in another, another one of those spots, um, you know, you don't have your,
- 20:28[SPEAKER_00]: There are, I mean, like, like, I give, I actually think like on balance the coaching staff did a really good job of making sure that game and being in a position to be a really good Jaguar's team.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_00]: They had, I don't know how the sustains though, like I just, you know their deadcap situation, right?
- 20:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like I, I'm not a story on this, you know they have almost $300 million in deadcap just sitting out there right now.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I just like, like it's, you know what I know they're fighting back against the idea of like we don't need to, we don't need to tear it down to the studs.
- 21:02[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I think a lot of people deserve a lot of credit.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_00]: The money has been well spent last decade.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: They, when you win a Super Bowl, it's all that bad.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_00]: They won two Super Bowl's over the last decade.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: They went to three.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: They were a constant contender.
- 21:13[SPEAKER_00]: all of it was worth it.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: All of it.
- 21:16[SPEAKER_00]: You've spent the money generally in the right places.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: Your owner has opened his wallet and has been willing to spend cash over a cap year after year after year.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_00]: I just don't know what the vision is for this year's team, where it's like, yes, we're going to be in it at the end.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know where, I don't know where you're looking at this
- 21:41[SPEAKER_00]: three years down the road.
- 21:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, the...
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: The caps, the cap, you know.
- 21:48[SPEAKER_00]: And again, I don't criticize them for the approach and doing it, but there's going to come a time when you're gonna have to deal with it.
- 21:55[SPEAKER_00]: And especially if the owners got their way in the CBA negotiations.
- 22:00[SPEAKER_00]: So it's gonna be interesting to see what happens because there's a lot of money tied up in players who are not on the team anymore.
- 22:08[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a lot of damage coming over the next couple of years
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: they can keep kicking that can down the road, but eventually it's going to catch up with them.
- 22:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, that's for now.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: I will say this or that's for later, but for now.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_00]: I still think Dallas is the best team in that division, but like maybe I'm crazy.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe I'm not.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the ball doesn't go through Jake Ferguson's hands on Thursday night.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe we're talking about the Cowboys being three and two and now they're only half
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I'm not wild about where Christian Barker and the defense are, but no one in that division is running away with it, you know, here's what's weird.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_00]: Giants are interesting because the Giants are just tough as hell and reflect our ball right now, but like we'll see how well they can make it last with the quarterback situation.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: But here's what's weird about the Eagles.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: against the Rams and against the Jaguars, they had a 97% win probability in both of those games very late in the game.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: Eagles could be four, one, and like, you know, like four, five plays.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: Happened differently.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: And we're talking about how Nick Serianny's a mirror worker with this offensive line situation in this injury situation.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yes.
- 23:20[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, they averaged 1.2 yards per
- 23:24[SPEAKER_00]: they can't get to the past.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_00]: They can't rush the passer.
- 23:28[SPEAKER_00]: They're running back as heard.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: They like, again, I think they deserve a lot of credit for, for yesterday, for hanging in there.
- 23:38[SPEAKER_00]: I just, I don't know where the path out is for this year's team.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that's necessarily even anybody's fault, you know?
- 23:46[SPEAKER_00]: Like sometimes the man in fire to me only makes sense
- 23:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, yeah, if you're like hoping for maybe not a coach in waiting situation, or like, yeah, I don't know.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but whatever it is, I think they got a.
- 24:11[SPEAKER_01]: They gotta figure it out.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Jaguars just really quickly.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: This is one of those, and again, like, I feel like Jaguars friends are like no one talks about us and then when they do talk about us, they say things like this.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: This was a game that Liam Coleman's lucky to get out of.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there were some weird decisions.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_01]: We were like, the jet sweep on fourth and one year, the goal line was like a, maybe moment.
- 24:34[SPEAKER_01]: And then you know, the bad holding call in the third quarter that kind of bumped them out, you know, and then they had the weird fourth quarter sequence, like there were two bad goal line moments for this team and this one.
- 24:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I I the fourth down decision making I understand the aggression, but it was like.
- 24:53[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm I'm I'm going back to jog by memory on this, but you know, I don't know at the end of the half, like again, like this is one of those situations to me were the one at the end of the half where you are lucky to have a second left there, basically the way that that sequence played out.
- 25:07[SPEAKER_00]: And you have a chance to just go in a half like that's a nice piece of momentum going in and instead you hand the momentum back over to the Eagles.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think that stuff is real.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 25:18[SPEAKER_00]: Like you're giving the you're giving the other team a boost going into half time.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_00]: Right, rather than just taking the points like to me, the four points.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_00]: in that situation aren't worth it.
- 25:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think in that situation, just take the points kick the field goal.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I feel like the whole going from going forward on fourth down thing is out of control anyway.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: But, I mean, I just, I look at like, you know, again, the other fourth down that they missed and I'm looking at it again.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_00]: You know, it's where they, they were down 14 to 10 right and it's, they were down 14 to 10 and there's six 40 left and it's fourth and five fourth and goal from the five.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know man, like in that situation, I think cutting the lead to 14 to 13 and putting it in your defense's hands based on the way that they were playing and now your offense only needs a field goal.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_00]: I think would have been a pretty good call.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't wind up biting them though.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'll put a button on it by saying this and then I want to move on.
- 26:25[SPEAKER_00]: I may have a big game next week too.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: Put your happens to be in London.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like every other good game that we have, it's not being played in the game.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: They gave me a little.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they gave me, I think that's, is that the Wembley game, I think next week's the Wembley game, right?
- 26:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 26:41[SPEAKER_01]: I'll put a bone at by saying this.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: We now have clock management experts on Twitter, one of whom has appeared on the show, Ryan Peggy and I who I love.
- 26:52[SPEAKER_01]: But like I think we know too much now.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that what's happened is the depth of analytics
- 27:00[SPEAKER_01]: what the coaches, what what we're actually teams are actually paying the coaches for.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: And that's to have a gut feel in these moments.
- 27:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's not a gut feel, but like, how is my quarterback or smell stuff?
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: Is he on a heater?
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: Are my offensive linemen healthier?
- 27:12[SPEAKER_01]: People tired.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know, only stuff that a coach can see.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: That's, and then helping for that decision.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 27:18[SPEAKER_00]: I actually think that's like where the ex players who coach are on it, you know, like that's where, you know, having a Demigo Rines or a Dan Campbell or a Mike variable like who understands like the emotion and the and has like a really good.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_00]: Has a really good pulse on where their team teams are at like to me.
- 27:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's like that's that's a That's that's where like I think those guys are better because you have those guy and Dan Campbell's very aggressive on fourth down So it doesn't mean you can't be aggressive on fourth down, but I think those guys generally have a good feel for how is this going to affect my team beyond just what the numbers say.
- 27:56[SPEAKER_01]: Never open the fridge, stare at it for five minutes, and then just decide, you know what?
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: I guess I'm ordering takeout.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like I do that way too often.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: And honestly, the one thing that's helped me avoid it is having good stuff ready to go in the freezer.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's why I've been using butcher box.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_01]: Butcher box delivers 100% grass fed beef, organic chicken, wild caught seafood, and more, all sourced to the standards that they can actually tell you about.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_01]: They've already done the research and made the tough sourcing decisions.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_01]: So all you really have to do is figure out
- 28:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I like that you can customize your box because I'm pretty predictable with what I actually I'll keep some burgers and some steak stock and then when I get home and I don't feel like going out or spending money on delivery I can just grab something from the freezer and I'm good I've made a bunch of different meals with it But honestly sometimes the best part is just having something there You don't have to make dinner into this whole production throw some trick and on the grill make some burgers Whatever and you're done.
- 28:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically like having your own neighborhood butcher except you don't have to leave your house
- 28:56[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're trying to make dinner a little easier and keep some really good protein on hand, check out butcherbox.com.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's definitely become one of those things I like having around because it makes the whole what am I eating tonight decision a lot easier.
- 29:09[SPEAKER_01]: If you're looking for an easier way to get great meals on the table, give butcherbox a try.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_01]: Go to butcherbox.com slash mmqb

- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: Again, butcherbox.com slash mmqb.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_01]: Be sure to use our link so they know that we sent you.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move on to the Sunday night game and this was a thriller and it was funny because I had text group that I was talking to some of the people during the game and I had this like budding conspiracy theory that the NFL doesn't allow ties in these moments and we've seen like weird situations where all of a sudden like a game will just get whack or railroaded by a really weird call and you're like, oh,
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: someone wanted to get to a matlock or law and order SVU pretty quickly.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: But the Ravens escape, and I put a scape in Eric quotes 30 to 23 over the land of Falcons, Atlanta was red hot again to start this game.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_00]: That was a good team, man.
- 30:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think you guys are good team.
- 30:18[SPEAKER_00]: We had to erase the first two weeks for our memory banks.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like Atlanta's good team.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_01]: Lenin's a good team.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: Michael Panix threw for 240 yards in this one Passerating of 93 Drake London was a beast and has been a beast you know effectively Almost all of Michael Panix's starts and while Bijon didn't have I mean 86 yards is still great I mean a lot of team.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean I think a lot of people would take Bijon Robinson's down game Which was I'm looking at it right now six rushing yards.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, 118 yards from scrimmage on 21 touches
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, but the more that Panics is in the game, the fewer heavy boxes the Falcons are going to see.
- 30:57[SPEAKER_01]: And Panics is doing a great job of stretching the field.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that there's no better example than this.
- 31:03[SPEAKER_01]: So to a tongue of I low, I had to come in at the end of this game because Panics took a shot.
- 31:08[SPEAKER_01]: And so to is piloting this team in overtime to try to lead them down the field.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: to score a game tying touchdown.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_01]: And Chris Collins worth pointed this out that the Falcons ran essentially the same play they ran earlier in the game.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_01]: And what Panics was able to do was kind of look off Kyle Hamilton in a situation and throw the ball in a different direction.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: Kyle Hamilton when the play was run again was looking at Tua and he's saying, I know you're not throwing it to anybody, but Drake may or I'm sorry, Drake long and so he's like, I'm just going to park myself right here and I know this is where you're throwing the ball because I know you're not as good as Michael Panics and that's exactly what happened.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's unfortunate because.
- 31:51[SPEAKER_01]: Panics is playing so well and I thought he was even a little bit more confident using his legs in this game and he just looked a little bit freer in general.
- 32:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think but it's the durability thing like it.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_01]: It sucks, you know.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Tommy Reese has done a really nice job of building the offense.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: Great job, you know.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: And like I just
- 32:13[SPEAKER_00]: And you're right, like the way you're spreading the ball around the way like it just feels like all five guys are eligible on it and what they would tell you what these coaches would tell you.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_00]: is like his super power.
- 32:23[SPEAKER_00]: I remember Jeff Holberg saying this like, and I all break made this comment to last year's staff, right?
- 32:29[SPEAKER_00]: Like so when Raheem and Zach Robinson was the OC when those guys were all still there, like he said like, I can't believe this kid's vision.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I can't believe he's seeing the things that he's seeing.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_00]: And so I think like what you're seeing, hit now is a guy who,
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: can have all five guys alive on every play and that's like that can that can really do a number on a defense and what they're able to do to you when they know that they have to cover every inch of grass in the field and that he's already there in year three is great you know like so um and it just sucks that like I mean like what did they say after the game now I missed and I look like ribs maybe or something like that yeah was that what it was yeah it took a shot to the ribs yeah but did I say I don't I don't know I don't know
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but yeah, I mean, it's it's hopefully not serious.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_00]: Um, because obviously this has been a huge problem for him going back to college and the ACE had three ACL tears and this is always the question with them and I think, you know, part of it is like he's not on athletic.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: But he's not the greatest mover in the pocket, if that happens, you know, like he's straight line fast, but he's kind of clunky back there.
- 33:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like he kind of plays in a little bit of like a seven on seven way, where he's not all that elusive inside like the tight confines of the pocket, which I think is why he takes so many of these hits.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, no, I agree.
- 33:59[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you could see that there's definitely a clunkiness to it.
- 34:03[SPEAKER_01]: on the flip side for Baltimore, you know, I don't know what you, what you want to assign Blame to David Blow and Washington, I don't know, again, I think I've arrived at the fact that this is a jade and issue, but you know, we have the Davis Web thing where he was already changed out as a play call and we'll get to that.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_01]: Declan Doyle's another one of these young guys probably not going to be there for fair hit along.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_01]: And you know, but this is a game where you're watching all the other young Like colors kind of go through their growing pains.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: He goes out and beats a red hot falcons team with a ace's call for a two point conversion at the end of that game That was the right up.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_01]: That was do to do to the fake.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the fake.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah flowers like yeah
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: And they almost messed it up to it.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 34:56[SPEAKER_00]: And Derek Henry being like capable of doing the ball handle.
- 34:59[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, you saw he bobbled it a little bit.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_00]: But the ball handling on that play is not easy for somebody who doesn't play quarterback.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: And so like just being ready with that call in that situation.
- 35:11[SPEAKER_00]: And Henry coming downhill with the defense getting stretched horizontally because they flowers is coming across.
- 35:19[SPEAKER_00]: it's like a relatively simple idea that was executed so well and now all the sudden you got like this 250 pound force of nature running in space and all I need this two yards and it was over.
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: It was great because it was an awesome call and it's great, like, too.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's not just having that call, because it's not like that's the most novel thing in the world, but it's like holding on to it for that situation, too.
- 35:46[SPEAKER_00]: You don't even know, yeah.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: Like being like knowing, like, and that's a feel thing, that's a really good sign for a first-time play caller.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, because I'm sure there were other situations when he's been tempted to pull that out, you know?
- 35:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's funny, too, because everyone's like, Derek Henry can't run in short yards.
- 36:02[SPEAKER_01]: Derek Henry couldn't run in short yards.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, a bigger
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: and then putting slow in air quotes here.
- 36:07[SPEAKER_00]: A bigger, less, you know, he's not, he's not as quick to the hole, which allows for penetration to, yeah.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he said it, that's what she said, but the, you know, him, the way that his body's constructed, it's not just like turn in handed off to him at the whole.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't make sense.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_01]: You get him the ball in a gun run in space, like at the goal line, forget about it.
- 36:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like that you're not stopping.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and so I think that was was was a great thing to just sort of break up that idiotic storyline.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_01]: The Ravens.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_01]: They, they are surviving these games.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_01]: They're winning these games.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_01]: And it's so weird Albert because John Harbog goes to the Giants with the very, very real losing these games.
- 36:56[SPEAKER_01]: It changes their fortune.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_01]: And then the Ravens, under Jesse Minner, change the Harbog fortune and start winning these games down the stretch.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_01]: It's wild.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_01]: They're a real Super Bowl contender.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 37:07[SPEAKER_00]: Lamar is playing so well and it's a shame he's hurt and I think their ability to win a game like this without him is great, you know what I mean, like awesome awesome awesome You know Kyle Hamilton making the play that he did defense playing the way did it was able to play at the end of that game not perfect through the game, but at the end of that game
- 37:27[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and I think like, you know, this is like one of the reasons why John harbaga fire because they thought so highly of that roster, you know, um last year.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I remember like last year was we haven't had, this is one of the best roster we've had the last 25 years and that like level of expectation fair, not I think it's part of what got John last year.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: And now I think you're seeing it, right?
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, I'm just, you know, looking at the nail, like Malachi Starks is starting to come and do his own Kyle, Hamilton, Rowquan Smith, it's like just hitting on all of these Nate Wiggins is becoming a really good player at corner.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: We know what Zay Flowers is.
- 38:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's just, you know, big I own A's becoming like an important offensive lime in for them.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: They'll have Cam Jurgen's coming back.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like hitting on all of these picks over the years.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: It's a really good team.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: And I think like sometimes the change in voice can help regardless of how much somebody's accomplished.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Jesse's done a really nice job of coming in there and giving them a fresh perspective.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_00]: while still maintaining the bones of the harbour program, which we're good.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_01]: New puntly, by the way, through some darts in this one.
- 38:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and what did I deal back up to for Lamar?
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 38:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I know, and I was down on it to be honest with you.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: I thought they could have upgraded a little bit better.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, their relationship is so, I mean, you saw it.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_01]: They were communicating constantly on the side-bind, but like,
- 38:54[SPEAKER_01]: He threw some great balls on Sunday.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_00]: And you can see like, made all the borrowers like genuinely, genuinely excited for them.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 39:02[SPEAKER_00]: Like there was no, I mean, I was, it was cool watching that.
- 39:05[SPEAKER_00]: But I think like Huntley allows for you.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_00]: You don't need to change much when you put Hunt Tyler Huntley in there, you know?
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 39:12[SPEAKER_00]: So shout out to Snoop.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_01]: One of the most frustrating things about paying off debt is feeling like you're making payments every month, but you're not really sure how much progress you're making.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_01]: You're putting money towards it.
- 39:24[SPEAKER_01]: You're trying to be responsible, but sometimes it feels like the finish line is never any closer.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I think just being able to see that progress can make a huge difference.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_01]: That's one of the things I like about Monarch.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_01]: It's debt pay down simulator and visualizer.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: Let's you see exactly when you could be debt free based on your actual balances and payments.
- 39:43[SPEAKER_01]: You can even compare different payment strategies and see how much faster you could pay things off.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_01]: Instead of just looking at a balance and wondering when you'll finally get it down to zero, you have an actual timeline to work towards.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_01]: And if you can find a little extra room in your budget, you can see how that changes your plan.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_01]: Monarch also makes it easier to keep track of everything in one place, so you're not constantly guessing where your money is going, or whether you're on track with your goals.
- 40:06[SPEAKER_01]: It's about having a plan, seeing your progress and feeling like you're actually moving forward.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_01]: Write your own money story with Monarch.
- 40:14[SPEAKER_01]: Use code mmqb at Monarch.com to get your first year of Monarch Core half off at just $50.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_01]: That's 50% off your first year at Monarch.com with code mmqb.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_01]: Let's move to Packers, Bears, the Packers, absolutely come out.
- 40:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's one might have meant a little more from that before, maybe.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_00]: Breathe the baby.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe that one before was pretty satisfied with this one.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_00]: I think.
- 40:42[SPEAKER_01]: 31 to 7.
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: And this one Albert, it was.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_01]: Green Bay, Christian Watson said it during the week, and it was the one piece of bulletin board material that I thought the Packers provided and it was on accident because LaFlor was very close shopped this week.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_01]: Don't take the bait from the bears.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: Don't get into this emotional headgame thing.
- 41:03[SPEAKER_01]: But Christian Watson said there are holes in that bears defense and we need to find them.
- 41:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, they found them.
- 41:16[SPEAKER_01]: deep passes of 40 yards or more, which is already more than like 26 NFL teams have had all season.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_01]: Christian Watson had a massive game, Matthew Golden had a massive game, and the Packers still can't run the ball, which is crazy, but they committed to the play action.
- 41:33[SPEAKER_01]: and it absolutely drove the bear's bonkers.
- 41:36[SPEAKER_01]: Chicago's going to need to upgrade that defense before the trade deadline, which I think they will.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_01]: But on the other side of this, this is a freeing Matt LaFlor victory if I've ever seen one wholly smokes.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think like this is why you don't react emotionally.
- 41:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think the way they started this game,
- 41:57[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, it was, I like, and Jordan love even said it to me last night when I had him on the phone, like, this was a, we got Matt LaFlor's back game.
- 42:05[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 42:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and this is Matt LaFlor's team.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_00]: And I, I think like his call for them to play complimentary football.
- 42:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, this is like the definition of it.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_00]: If you, if you think about it, right?
- 42:14[SPEAKER_00]: Because they come out on the first possession,
- 42:18[SPEAKER_00]: And they are able to force a punt right away.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: The packers come back and drive the field 10 plays 91 yards.
- 42:28[SPEAKER_00]: Then Xavier McKinney picks off Tyson Bayesian.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_00]: And then they get the ball back.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_00]: They drive for another touchdown.
- 42:34[SPEAKER_00]: And now after one play in the second quarter of the bears are in a 14 or nothing hole.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_00]: And like here's the most encouraging part for the packers.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_00]: It's who was making the plays.
- 42:46[SPEAKER_00]: Evan Williams on defense right Lucas Van Nes continues to to take a step in the absence of Mike of Parsons Dennis Sutton from Penn State like looks like he's a factor now defensively for them as well.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_00]: Devontae Wyatt like these are guys that they really said like okay can they elevate from good to great Christian Watson Matthew Golden Tucker craft back off the ACL he makes a big play in this game.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: Is that your Franklin was unbelievable in this game?
- 43:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and so like what you're starting to see is like this is what I was talking about.
- 43:17[SPEAKER_00]: What's like, can there are good players become either very good players or can there very good players become great players?
- 43:22[SPEAKER_00]: Because they've got a lot of talent and they've got a lot of good young players in that roster.
- 43:27[SPEAKER_00]: And what the question I was asking after the first couple of weeks was, did they pay the wrong guys?
- 43:32[SPEAKER_00]: Right, they paid Watts and they paid Reed, they paid, they paid Wyatt, they've paid a bunch of these guys, they did they pay the wrong guys.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_00]: And now you're seeing those guys take a step.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_00]: And oh, by the way, now they get micoparsons back.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe they get Josh Jake goes back.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see on that one.
- 43:49[SPEAKER_00]: But now you're starting to see, like the NFC North is gonna be a street fight.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like the NFC North, you're projected to make the playoffs right now, by the way.
- 43:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I think you get argue that the best team in the division right now
- 44:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 44:10[SPEAKER_00]: And that's the Vikings of five and oh, whose defense is playing out of this world.
- 44:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_00]: The lion started to look like the lions.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_00]: Now it was the cardinals, but the lion started.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: We'll get to that.
- 44:19[SPEAKER_00]: Right.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_00]: And we've seen what the bears are capable of.
- 44:22[SPEAKER_00]: Now we know what the package are capable of.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_00]: It's I'm the the the NFC North like you could definitely see like, you know, you're getting into like early this summer and everybody's got eight wins and no one knows it's going to win the division.
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: I wonder if Ben Johnson, if he could have had this one back, would have just gone with case kingdom, and this is a simple answer, it's a simple answer for a more complex and nuanced discussion, but he did not seem happy in the post game when he talked about the second pageant pick.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought as much as the Packers were blowing them out all game,
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: This is a credit to Ben in the bears.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: I never thought they were out of it and Matt went for two when they got up 29 to 7 and Matt was feeling it too.
- 45:08[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think Albert that that was a rub it in thing.
- 45:11[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was a
- 45:13[SPEAKER_01]: We we need every single one of these points kind of thing.
- 45:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think that was a healthy fear and I love that.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: I love every bit of the gamesmanship because then you're pushing it to 24 points.
- 45:25[SPEAKER_00]: So now they need three touchdowns three touchdowns three.
- 45:27[SPEAKER_00]: Everyone can.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll say this for move.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_01]: I am.
- 45:36[SPEAKER_01]: a guest at the people that are calling in to Chicago talk radio to criticize then now and saying like, oh my god, yeah, and it's like, oh, well, you know, he's only three and nine against the division and, you know, he's hot dogging it and then now, you know, we're losing these games, shut up and shut up for a couple of reasons.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_01]: uh, shut up because this is the best thing that's ever happened to you, uh, and it's going to be the best football thing that ever happens to you in your lifetime, having been and Caleb Williams on that team.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: I want that to be heard.
- 46:10[SPEAKER_01]: And second, don't try to force a coach to stop being who he is.
- 46:15[SPEAKER_01]: I thought LaFlor handled the situation well this week, and he won the battle, but there's still a war, right?
- 46:22[SPEAKER_01]: Um, and, you know, I thought LaFlor did a good job of kind of painting Ben as,
- 46:28[SPEAKER_01]: like an attention seeker a little bit like he's like well I'm all about the players and bends all about you know saying these crazy things and whatever and you could hear it in the way that the packers players are talking about the bears to it was a nice little battle victory but the war is Ben Johnson being allowed to be Ben Johnson this guy and the way that he approaches the job and the way that he approaches his rivalries
- 46:52[SPEAKER_01]: It's like one of the best things that we've had in football and forever and we said this last week too, and I mean it so don't ruin this for everybody guys don't ruin this for me don't ruin this for Albert and just enjoy the fact that you've got a baller call in the place so I was just wondering if you like the do you like the alabaster pants or the math look good I mean hackers rivalry uniforms they they looked modeled after the hackers public stocks certificates and community ownership since 1919.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Albert.
- 47:22[SPEAKER_01]: 49 of C Hawks.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is probably like the This was the high level football right like this is yeah, yeah, you was like we start the show talking about like two teams Who can't look up at the scoreboard and see the clock and then we're talking about like a master's dissertation in the game from from MIT.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: What did you?
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: What did you see from this one?
- 47:40[SPEAKER_00]: Um, then we're probably going to see it Two more times not one more time.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_01]: I hope so.
- 47:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 47:47[SPEAKER_00]: uh, awesome all the way around.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I, I couldn't be more impressed with the Niners and, and man, I hope they stay healthy.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I, that's my one question that they, they, they very much are hearing the conversation.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_00]: I, you know, I talked to Christian McCaffrey about it this week for it.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: We'll learn about it last week.
- 48:03[SPEAKER_00]: Like,
- 48:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're very much here in the conversation about their age.
- 48:07[SPEAKER_00]: They think it's to their advantage.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_00]: Christian said to me yesterday, it was like, we know what helps with the experience, with helps with having all of the pelts in the wall, is when the other team has the momentum and it feels like the walls are caving in on you.
- 48:23[SPEAKER_00]: And the crowd is going crazy and this maybe just isn't your day right and you're able to take it and turn around.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's just what happened yesterday and like there was a point there and I believe it was I think it was the third quarter right where so the Niners are up 21 to 3 at that 13 at the half and the C.
- 48:52[SPEAKER_00]: at the very end of the, at the end of the, the third quarter.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_00]: And the Niners fought back, man, and they are tough, and, you know, you see it coming from all angles.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think Brock party is way better than people give him credit for like I just.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: I wouldn't hesitate about putting him in the MVP conversation now.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_00]: And he may be my MVP through five weeks.
- 49:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like he, I don't know what more we need to say.
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know how long he's got to live down where he was drafted.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_00]: All I know is like in these big situations, he keeps answering the bell.
- 49:29[SPEAKER_00]: And so there was that, you know, and he played great in the drive to put them ahead.
- 49:33[SPEAKER_00]: And then at the very end, the Niners just lined up and bullied the Seahawks, which was pretty stunning.
- 49:41[SPEAKER_00]: You know, like to see the Niners and that drive to kick the field, go at the end.
- 49:47[SPEAKER_00]: McAfrey up the middle for eight, McAfrey left in for 13.
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: They throw to McAfrey in the flat for three.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: Killing black for 11, off-right guard.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_00]: Pirty to McAfrey again for four.
- 49:59[SPEAKER_00]: Killing black off left guard for five.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: Killing black up the middle loses a yard and they can't put fuel goal.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think she's a team who knows who they are.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_00]: And they're able to get the stop at the hand now, they did get a help, like an uncharacteristic drop by J.S.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_00]: and at the end, that usually doesn't happen.
- 50:15[SPEAKER_00]: Um, and we could talk about this spot if you want to because that was pretty crazy and um, you know, uh, I don't know what we can do.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think that like that was going to stand one way or the other.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: Like if they're given that to cop, it would have stood.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, because they didn't give it to them.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's good.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I hope this game again.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_00]: Um, I just asked them awesome awesome all the way around.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_01]: Albert is referring to the Seahawks final possession ended on downs.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_01]: It was a nine yard pass from Sam Donald to Cooper Cup.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that the official who called it really didn't have the ideal view in my opinion.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_00]: But that said, like, you know, until I wanted him to get it because I don't root in games.
- 51:02[SPEAKER_00]: I wanted him to get it because I didn't want this to end.
- 51:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:06[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 51:07[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that like,
- 51:10[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to sound weird, but we talked last week about the NFL doing officials of favor, so that they're not angry enough that they feel like they got a scream at players and curse them out during games, like there is something to this.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_01]: and creating a world where it's okay to just slow the game down for three seconds and make sure like there can be these moments where the NFL comes down from up on high and says, you know, we're watching this game in New York, pause everything.
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: Everything just everyone just stand there for five minutes and let me look at this 800 times to make sure that we have it from every angle and then we will hand the call back to you on the field.
- 51:55[SPEAKER_01]: I know that they can do that in certain situations, but like pause the game because what are we really losing at the end of the day like I've heard people say, well,
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: They don't want these games to be any longer because, you know, it's going to run into other stuff on the programming schedule.
- 52:12[SPEAKER_01]: There is no other thing on the on the programming schedule on broadcast TV, like doc, um, the show doc where the doctor hit hit hit her head and can't remember that she's a doctor.
- 52:24[SPEAKER_01]: Like on CIS, the best medicine is like a new show where it's a doctor who's afraid of blood like ghosts.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_01]: It's a comedy about ghosts like Bob and Abbas show it like there's nothing there's nothing a broadcast TV like Walker text is strange I'm walking through that door
- 52:43[SPEAKER_01]: a slow the game down, you know, stop.
- 52:45[SPEAKER_01]: If an NFL game is six hours long, I'll watch it.
- 52:48[SPEAKER_01]: I watch it for 13 hours every Sunday anyway.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and I would if you didn't pay me for it, jokes on US, I, but, you know, that's why I'm like, why aren't we just making sure that this is entirely locked down?
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_01]: That's my rant, and I'll finish just with a parting thought on this Albert.
- 53:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm worried about this C-Ox writing game.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like it's not, it's not looking.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_00]: It's that the end all be is that the salve in this you know what I mean yeah, I know I know and it's sort of like indicative of who they are and losing clencoobiac and going to Brian Flurry I think Flurry's
- 53:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think that I think it'll be okay.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_00]: I might just take a little time.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've earned our trust with that, you know.
- 53:38[SPEAKER_00]: They were funky things that happened in this game for them.
- 53:40[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I don't think less than that.
- 53:42[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of fumbling issues.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_01]: They said that they're gonna have to, the scout team is gonna be punching at the ball more this week and they have a short week on that Thursday.
- 53:50[SPEAKER_01]: So see if they get that locked up.
- 53:52[SPEAKER_00]: So do you need the Niners the best thing to leave?
- 53:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, you know what yeah, and I can't I can't like I can't keep saying well I'm I'm worried about this and worried about that they are right point.
- 54:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you know It's interesting too because like it gets so many of these things right and like part of it like like oh like Kale and black like you know, what are they doing draft him in the fourth round now he's paired with Christian McCaffrey and his effective running back right the Zons struggling they got
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: roasted for that top of the second round pick.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: He was going to play.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: He got hurt.
- 54:23[SPEAKER_00]: That's unfortunate, but like it looks like he's going to be a major part of their offense at some point.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_00]: And the Mike Evans thing is great because like I, you know, when I had Kettle on the phone a few weeks ago, I asked him what he's learned about his team and the first thing he said was that he said Mike Evans is good at football.
- 54:42[SPEAKER_00]: That was the first thing that came out of his mouth.
- 54:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I think he said it to somebody else yesterday, they love Mike Evans and took over this thing.
- 54:49[SPEAKER_00]: And he said, and what kiddo said to me was like, having an X like that makes things so much easier on everybody else.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_00]: And so again, I want to
- 55:00[SPEAKER_00]: I want so badly to see this team together in January.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and I hope that they can stay healthy because that's the biggest question with any tea.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's not wishing injury on anybody.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, of course, we're not.
- 55:10[SPEAKER_00]: We're actually wishing the other way, but it's just when you, when a team's got so much age in so many key spots, like, that's the question.
- 55:18[SPEAKER_00]: But they, you know, they did this without Nick Bosa, right?
- 55:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Nick Bosa will eventually get back in there.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_00]: Um, you hope he has dribbling back, like,
- 55:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, and then the C-Ox have some guys coming back to, you know, it's not just sharpening, they'll eventually get priced back to.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_00]: So their run game could look a little different there.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I'm a little less certain about Terry and Arnold after some of the developments last week, but I think this is, this is, this is, when do they play again?
- 55:47[SPEAKER_00]: Can we look that up?
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: Is this, what, the, they play again Thanksgiving weekend.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, so circle that one.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_01]: I've got good games on Thanksgiving and Christmas is here.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_01]: Looks like I'm not spending time with my family.
- 56:04[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we got a seven minutes left.
- 56:07[SPEAKER_00]: See, you got to do what I did.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_00]: Like my kids are actually like watching with me like my getting there.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: Because of Columbus Day, because of Columbus Day, my old is got to stay up and watch the end of the race.
- 56:16[SPEAKER_00]: Falcons with me last night.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, nice, that's cool.
- 56:19[SPEAKER_01]: My son's a Giants fan and he had his shirt and his hat and his jersey on.
- 56:24[SPEAKER_01]: And then I'm still trying to explain to him the ending of that game
- 56:29[SPEAKER_01]: They just tie and I'm like, yeah, sometimes I'm like, yeah, sometimes I'm like, yeah, if you feel as deeply unsatisfying.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Texan's 26 Titans 3 get right game Marvin Harris and Jr. on the way.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think you and I were never out on this Texan steam and maybe this is how they turn the corner.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_00]: So I think this is a pivotal for them because you start to look down the line, right?
- 56:52[SPEAKER_00]: There are some winnable games ahead, you know, and so if they beat the Jaguars this week, then they're two and four Then they play the Giants.
- 56:59[SPEAKER_00]: They'll be favored in that game.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: Then they play it then they have the buy that they go to the Chargers They'll be favored in that game.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_00]: That could be four and four.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_00]: Then the Browns favorite in that game could be five and four and then you play the Colts again And now all of a sudden you're back in it and it's like a pivotal stretch there.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_00]: We play the Colts in the Ravens
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: They, like, here's the thing.
- 57:24[SPEAKER_00]: So, in talking to Will Anderson yesterday, he's flat out said to me, he's like, CJ has been bawling out all year.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_01]: He has?
- 57:30[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, this is not the problem.
- 57:32[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, he's like, we're the problem.
- 57:34[SPEAKER_00]: And he used this line, said, like, their whole line internally this week was on your box.
- 57:39[SPEAKER_00]: Right, like, oh, just do your do do what the defense asks you to do.
- 57:43[SPEAKER_00]: Don't go outside of it.
- 57:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think we saw a little of those problems earlier in the year.
- 57:47[SPEAKER_00]: It's the Titans.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see if it carries over to next week against the Jaguars.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I think this wasn't get right game.
- 57:55[SPEAKER_00]: The use it is to get right game.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_00]: It became a get right game.
- 57:58[SPEAKER_00]: And now I'll see if they can carry it over.
- 57:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I like the fit of Marv in a.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_01]: and Houston, which maybe we can get to on a show later in the week.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_01]: Dolphins and Bengals, I mean, Bengals won 31, 24, but they were up 28 to 10 in this one.
- 58:11[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the Dolphins kind of got it back in at the end of the game.
- 58:15[SPEAKER_01]: I'll just say this.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_01]: This is my one thought on this game.
- 58:19[SPEAKER_01]: One of the coolest things they've ever seen during the week.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_01]: on Thursday, Jordan Battle of the Bengals said, Malik Willis does this weird thing where he taps the ball before he throws it.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_01]: I might try to jump the passes.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_01]: So three full days go by.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I guess this didn't get back to Malik Willis.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_01]: Jordan Battle is two interceptions in this game.
- 58:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, who's not feeding this info to like quarterback of the dolphins?
- 58:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like, no.
- 58:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Babe Ruth, point to the left field stands, right?
- 58:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's not even that like, it was like, it was the most innocent.
- 58:51[SPEAKER_01]: It was to the point where when I saw him say it during the week, I was like, oh my God, why did you say it?
- 58:57[SPEAKER_00]: That was exactly what I thought.
- 58:58[SPEAKER_00]: I was like, what are you doing, dude?
- 59:00[SPEAKER_00]: I got this an amazing tendency that I picked up and I thought, say that after the game, you're good.
- 59:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's like, don't say before the game.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: My God.
- 59:07[SPEAKER_01]: But it helps.
- 59:08[SPEAKER_01]: It works for him.
- 59:09[SPEAKER_01]: So good for battle.
- 59:10[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes we have no little less precision than we thought.
- 59:13[SPEAKER_00]: So we have a situation like that in youth football where
- 59:19[SPEAKER_00]: We didn't like I advised our coach not to show something in in one of our JV game.
- 59:25[SPEAKER_00]: So it wouldn't come up.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_00]: So don't show them that like because the coach is the same for the varsity and we're playing them the next week.
- 59:32[SPEAKER_01]: So got to love the subterfuge.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_01]: Patriots 45 Raiders 17.
- 59:38[SPEAKER_01]: This was last week was the like get the car back on the road game and this is like the punchy accelerator game.
- 59:45[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, a tough one for the Raiders across country when we saw Fernando Mendoza in this game.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_01]: He went six to eight for 48 yards with an 89 quarterback rating.
- 59:54[SPEAKER_01]: Same thing, same deal for the Raiders, right?
- 59:57[SPEAKER_01]: Ash and Jenny at 0.7 yards a carry.
- 59:59[SPEAKER_01]: I'm wondering at the trade deadline Albert, if we get Clint Kubeyac a running back that might be able to more handle the Kubeyac system.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if this is not hitting the whole.
- 1:00:09[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 1:00:10[SPEAKER_01]: That's interesting.
- 1:00:11[SPEAKER_00]: So you're talking about like,
- 1:00:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I would I was actually in on them being in on Marov.
- 1:00:17[SPEAKER_01]: I just don't know that I would have given up a second round pick if I were them to do it because No, but when he got the job he said a couple times I need multiple guys in that role
- 1:00:28[SPEAKER_00]: So you're not going to give an up on Shanty.
- 1:00:30[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm not going to give an up on you're saying you're saying get get a veteran in there who knows the offense and maybe could even help him.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_01]: But it doesn't matter because it just doesn't look fluid on the flip side of it.
- 1:00:42[SPEAKER_00]: Drake may do like a great man.
- 1:00:45[SPEAKER_01]: I touched pounds 95 quarterback.
- 1:00:47[SPEAKER_01]: I will say this.
- 1:00:48[SPEAKER_00]: I had people there when he was struggling say to me, there are a lot of people that are going to look deeply stupid in a few weeks.
- 1:00:58[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm glad I was able to pick this up too.
- 1:01:02[SPEAKER_00]: I thought this was pretty cool, right?
- 1:01:03[SPEAKER_00]: So on, he had a 49-yard throw to Kyle Williams and the third quarter I think it was.
- 1:01:10[SPEAKER_00]: And it looks simple, right?
- 1:01:12[SPEAKER_00]: But,
- 1:01:13[SPEAKER_00]: What he did on that play?
- 1:01:15[SPEAKER_00]: So the the Raiders threw through a through a blitz atom and he and he distributed the protection before the blitz properly, right?
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_00]: Which because they're asking him to do that, it allowed him to manipulate the protection, which is the whole thing about like the way they're teaching him the offense.
- 1:01:34[SPEAKER_00]: So he manipulates the protection, which allows for him to be
- 1:01:42[SPEAKER_00]: And that gives him a second to figure out, oh, there's no safety there.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_00]: There's no post safety there and put the ball up to Kyle Williams for 49 yards.
- 1:01:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I think we're seeing some nice steps from Drake may.
- 1:01:55[SPEAKER_00]: Again, like we're going to be looking at the 24 class, like against each other over the coming years and everything else.
- 1:02:01[SPEAKER_00]: Drake looks pretty good.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_01]: He did, that was a, it's a really nice win for the, for the Patriots, Vikings 23 Saints 13 Saints are in free fall.
- 1:02:12[SPEAKER_01]: And it's so disappointing because I thought that that was the,
- 1:02:16[SPEAKER_01]: that that was the team right and I thought that they were going to really turn the corner now offensive line issues.
- 1:02:22[SPEAKER_01]: You can blame that to some degree, but every team has offensive line injury issues in this one Tyler shook did not have a great game.
- 1:02:29[SPEAKER_01]: 96 passing yards, two ends, Brian Flores will do that to you on the flip side.
- 1:02:35[SPEAKER_01]: The Vikings are probably the one team that's set out to fix their running game this off season.
- 1:02:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like we knew that that was a problem.
- 1:02:41[SPEAKER_01]: They went out to try to fix it and they fixed it.
- 1:02:44[SPEAKER_01]: Like Aaron Jones has found the fountain of youth.
- 1:02:46[SPEAKER_01]: He crushed it in this one, 113 yards and Kyla Murray makes me laugh because everyone's a Kyla Murray's figure and out man, you know what he figured out?
- 1:02:54[SPEAKER_01]: Throw the ball to Justin Jefferson, even if it's in triple coverage.
- 1:02:57[SPEAKER_01]: It doesn't matter.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_01]: Just throw him the ball.
- 1:03:00[SPEAKER_01]: Kurt Cousins did that too.
- 1:03:04[SPEAKER_00]: And the defense helps.
- 1:03:06[SPEAKER_00]: The defense is buying them time to develop on offense, right?
- 1:03:09[SPEAKER_00]: Like they're developing the run game.
- 1:03:10[SPEAKER_00]: They're developing the quarterback into what they want them to be.
- 1:03:14[SPEAKER_00]: And I mean, some of the numbers.
- 1:03:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, how about this?
- 1:03:18[SPEAKER_00]: After the first half, since the, since half time of the first game, they've only allowed three touchdowns on defense.
- 1:03:24[SPEAKER_00]: So it's four and a half games, three touchdowns, and four and a half games on defense.
- 1:03:28[SPEAKER_00]: Opponents have a 60.7 pass rating against them, which is wild.
- 1:03:34[SPEAKER_00]: And this one's the craziest one to me.
- 1:03:36[SPEAKER_00]: 40.6% of plays against the Vikings have gone for no gain or loss.
- 1:03:43[SPEAKER_00]: Isn't that crazy?
- 1:03:44[SPEAKER_00]: 4.6 have gone for no gain or loss.
- 1:03:48[SPEAKER_00]: That means almost half the time.
- 1:03:51[SPEAKER_00]: You weren't even getting a yard on them.
- 1:03:53[SPEAKER_01]: wild, uh, absolutely wild.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, I, I hope I like defense forward football.
- 1:03:58[SPEAKER_01]: I hope I hope I hope we get the Vikings, uh, to the postseason, because I think Florida's would bring some serious chaos.
- 1:04:05[SPEAKER_01]: Um, Jet 17 Browns, 12 de Mario Davis after the game Albert called this one of the great wins in Jet's history, uh, which, you know, um, uh, say what you want to say about that, but, um,
- 1:04:18[SPEAKER_01]: I think we got to Sean Watson turning him back into a pumpkin a little bit after he was riding high for a few weeks and he was always turnover prone but in bad conditions in that environment looks especially so God air and Glenn look like a weight got lifted off his shoulders after this one though.
- 1:04:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and I think like the, again, the key, who who was, who was leading the way here, right?
- 1:04:39[SPEAKER_00]: So you had David Bailey with three sacks.
- 1:04:41[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I think he will some great get off the snide game for David Bailey.
- 1:04:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, it was, it was just in the neck of time too, because I think there were a lot of questions being, um,
- 1:04:50[SPEAKER_00]: asked in that market that you're in down there, like I can't believe they didn't take our bell Reese, right?
- 1:04:55[SPEAKER_00]: So a nice effort by David Bailey, you know, Will McDonald with the strip sack at the end of the game.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's another young guy that that they can build around, Garrett Wilson Braille and Allen, you know, stepping in for Brace Hall and, you know, you've heard great things about him over the last couple of years, the offensive line playing the way
- 1:05:20[SPEAKER_00]: And he said to me, all right, buckle up, Connor.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_00]: He said to me that this feels to him a little bit like Seattle two or three years ago.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_01]: OK.
- 1:05:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I'm talented with all the edge talent.
- 1:05:34[SPEAKER_01]: All right, you know what, like, I'm done.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm done.
- 1:05:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm done trying to predict stuff and to guess what happens.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, I could say that I feel like it's going to need to be a different coach, a different staff, whatever.
- 1:05:44[SPEAKER_01]: But I've been wrong so often that like, OK, you know, let's give them the benefit of the doubt.
- 1:05:49[SPEAKER_01]: Why not?
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:05:50[SPEAKER_01]: You know what?
- 1:05:51[SPEAKER_01]: Go get it, you know.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_01]: Steelers 34, cults 22.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_01]: I have been, I've been,
- 1:05:59[SPEAKER_01]: very, very hard on the Steelers team all year.
- 1:06:02[SPEAKER_01]: This was the most fun Steelers game to watch of the entire season.
- 1:06:07[SPEAKER_01]: And it's weird because they're down to like three healthy wide receivers.
- 1:06:10[SPEAKER_01]: They needed like Bernard to come off the off the bench.
- 1:06:13[SPEAKER_00]: And it was just when it seemed that they were coming apart at the seams.
- 1:06:17[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and it's so weird like, I mean, the way that they operate is like that couple that fights all the time, but then they end up making it, you know, the longest.
- 1:06:23[SPEAKER_00]: Well, because they've been like, they've been together.
- 1:06:27[SPEAKER_00]: They're like, they're in a rhythm of like fighting.
- 1:06:28[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, it's like the, the Paul Rudd movie I love you man, where it's like John Favreau's character and he's married to that woman.
- 1:06:37[SPEAKER_01]: And he's like, I don't like staying at their house.
- 1:06:38[SPEAKER_01]: They fight all the time.
- 1:06:39[SPEAKER_01]: You know, whatever.
- 1:06:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's like that couple, but hey, it works for them.
- 1:06:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I, you know, I've said it.
- 1:06:46[SPEAKER_01]: I've apologized on multiple platforms that in multiple situations, Steelers, you're fun, again, you're fun.
- 1:06:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I really like, I literally like watching this game.
- 1:06:53[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, for J. Leonard Ramsey to come out and say during the week, like the coaches and the players aren't in the same page.
- 1:06:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then you have the scene between Mike and Aaron.
- 1:07:02[SPEAKER_01]: Mike McCarthy said our house isn't clean.
- 1:07:04[SPEAKER_01]: We need to clean our house.
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and then they had the day of reflection, which was interesting, right?
- 1:07:11[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you're like me, right?
- 1:07:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like it may not always look very good, but you know where everything is, right?
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_00]: Like I'm not very organized.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_00]: My wife yells at me for my stuffing all over the place, but then I get mad at her when she organizes it because I knew where everything was before you organized it.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right now and now I don't, right?
- 1:07:31[SPEAKER_00]: So it doesn't need to be clean, right?
- 1:07:34[SPEAKER_00]: The Steelers know where everything is.
- 1:07:37[SPEAKER_01]: Lions 45 Cardinals 21 not much to say about this one other than this is exactly what I thought the lines offense would do to the Cardinals defense like right I mean I don't think we need to you know this isn't uh uh this isn't the Fibonacci sequence like we knew Jamir Gibbs would run all over this team Jared Goff is still perfect I think I'm here three touchdowns so I think that's up to 12 and no picks
- 1:08:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, a big demo game two title game and you know I agree with Dave Berket who's kind of the Lions beat stage and a couple other people around this team You get Kirby Joseph back you make a little move in the secondary at the trade deadline Which I think that they'll do and this is a different prime branch.
- 1:08:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, Brian branches back, you know So I don't know man, you know, it's a
- 1:08:28[SPEAKER_00]: we'll see what happens.
- 1:08:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right?
- 1:08:30[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 1:08:31[SPEAKER_01]: And last, but certainly not least, we've the Broncos and the Chargers and Albert.
- 1:08:37[SPEAKER_00]: This one is kind of ugly.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, not surprising that I'm going to point this out, but the change in play calling didn't seem to make much of a difference for Denver.
- 1:08:47[SPEAKER_01]: But here's what did.
- 1:08:49[SPEAKER_01]: Vance Joseph and Vance Joseph continues to bail this team out and I said this on on the other show and I'll say it here last year 10 of Denver's 14 wins included a defensive performance in which the opponent was held to 20 points or less the defense flip the game in that ram's game and so I mean if nothing else
- 1:09:13[SPEAKER_01]: Denver has an extraordinary defense that continues to backstop them while they're figuring it out.
- 1:09:18[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and they did it.
- 1:09:19[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, obviously, I haven't done Jonathan Cooper all year.
- 1:09:21[SPEAKER_00]: They did it without certain.
- 1:09:23[SPEAKER_00]: They did it without Riley Moss.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_00]: They, I mean, there's a resourceful effort from the Denver defense.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_00]: And I think,
- 1:09:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, you hope the offense is going to figure it out, right?
- 1:09:34[SPEAKER_00]: I will say that I think the PlayCon change probably did up the urgency a little bit, you know, like something like that will get everybody's attention and they did what they had to do at the end of the game.
- 1:09:43[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't look very good on balance, but they were able to react and get in the position to
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_00]: to score points when they were there for them and you know like there's a lot to work on offensively and it'll be interesting to see what they look like turning it around and having to play on Thursday night against Seattle.
- 1:10:05[SPEAKER_00]: The Chargers I just
- 1:10:07[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, is it time to abandon ship?
- 1:10:09[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I have a hard time like I see everybody crushing Justin Herbert.
- 1:10:15[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly what they're expecting with the offensive lines situation.
- 1:10:18[SPEAKER_00]: They were starting like four rookies, right?
- 1:10:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 1:10:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, often, you know, it's a depth issue, I think, it's a, I mean,
- 1:10:28[SPEAKER_01]: I love Jim Harbaugh.
- 1:10:29[SPEAKER_01]: I do wonder if if the chargers need their Liam Cohen, though, in a way where yeah, but again, they're blocking tight end.
- 1:10:37[SPEAKER_00]: They're blocking a tight end.
- 1:10:39[SPEAKER_00]: Led them and receive in Charlie co R. Yeah, who's like, they brought him in to be the to be the inline blocker at that position and he's leading them and we're just I don't know me.
- 1:10:49[SPEAKER_00]: I'm like, I don't think that there's a lot of.
- 1:10:52[SPEAKER_00]: There's not a lot of answers there, you know, it's it's sad.
- 1:10:55[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's just sad, right?
- 1:10:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's just sad when you see a player that you thought could be really great, but it's just not working and I know people are going to say we're making excuses for him.
- 1:11:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's all broken.
- 1:11:09[SPEAKER_00]: it's just a mess and he's he's not playing well he's forcing it a man is he's forcing it but he's in a position where he has to to give us the choices you know I don't know I don't want to be accused of like I don't want to be I'm like a big accused of being an apologist for him but I I still have that like vision like is this Matthew staffed in Detroit you know what I mean like I think they can dig out of it but
- 1:11:34[SPEAKER_00]: They need to get a whole lot healthier, and they need to figure out who they are on offense.
- 1:11:38[SPEAKER_00]: I actually think the defense has been mostly fine, you know, like that, I like I think coming into the year, Chris O'Leary was a bigger question as a coordinator, as a new coordinator that might be a nice job.
- 1:11:48[SPEAKER_00]: He's done a nice job.
- 1:11:49[SPEAKER_01]: And he's about to lose Kluemek.
- 1:11:51[SPEAKER_01]: in the trade deadline.
- 1:11:55[SPEAKER_01]: So that closes the book on week five of NFL action.
- 1:11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you guys for hanging with us as always.
