- 0:03Welcome to the Propane to Purpose radio show.
- 0:06I'm your host Viva Fulton. In this show we explore the
- 0:10incredible journeys of resilience, healing, and
- 0:13transformation. In each episode, we will sit
- 0:16down with individuals good face unimaginable struggles and turn
- 0:20their pain into power, heartbreak into hope, and their
- 0:24challenges into meaningful change and finding new purpose
- 0:28in life. Through candid conversations and
- 0:30inspiring stories, we will uncover how pain, whether
- 0:35emotional, physical, mental, or spiritual, can be the catalyst
- 0:39for profound growth and a deeper sense of purpose.
- 0:42So if you are looking for motivation, insight, and real
- 0:46stories of triumph over adversity, if you're in the
- 0:49right place, let's get started on this journey from pain to
- 0:52purpose. Let's give veterans a voice
- 0:54through military broadcast talk. Hey.
- 0:59Hey, everybody. Little little snafu's there.
- 1:05Hair is a mess. I'm I on the road, so I had to
- 1:12pull out my equipment. Maybe I need to put a hat on
- 1:14this hair. Oh, my God, it's awful.
- 1:17It's awful. So sorry.
- 1:19Yep, it's a mess. I, you know, it's been humid.
- 1:24I'm on the road, folks. I'm on the road.
- 1:27So no makeup, hair's not done. It is what it is.
- 1:32I, I had to drive into town to get Internet connection.
- 1:38I'm doing the whole Wi-Fi for my truck thing.
- 1:43Thank goodness I have Wi-Fi for my truck.
- 1:47Sorry for the snafu on not being in the right studio.
- 1:51When I hit play, when I hit go live.
- 1:54It is what it is, guys. I, you know, when you're not in
- 1:58your own studio, things just are little crazy.
- 2:03Little crazy. So where am I?
- 2:05I'm not at home. I am on the road, but I am at
- 2:11least at not far from the campground where my trailer is.
- 2:17It's nice. It's wooded.
- 2:20No Internet there. Yeah.
- 2:23No Internet there. It was LTE on my cell phone so
- 2:28you know had to come into town anyways and get cash.
- 2:33So in case y'all have never seen and I I use I use my
- 2:38recreation.gov account because I do have one of those there the
- 2:45America the Beautiful pass. If you haven't ever seen here we
- 2:48go America the Beautiful pass use these.
- 2:52I you know as a disabled veteran you can get the permanent one.
- 2:57I highly recommend it. I oops one year and got the
- 3:02temporary one. It expires.
- 3:04You have to get it annually every year.
- 3:07Do the do the process, go ahead and get the permanent one.
- 3:12This lets you camp at campgrounds at A at a reduced
- 3:17cost. So it'll only cost me $16.00 a
- 3:21night at the campground where I'm at.
- 3:26I would say it changes from location to location but this is
- 3:32the with electricity cost it was cheaper.
- 3:37I think it's like $12.00 or $10 a night.
- 3:39It's cheaper if you don't need utilities, any electricity, or
- 3:44water. They had already rented out all
- 3:49of the spots that had water, but I got the last one for
- 3:52electricity. I was really blessed that so I
- 3:58when I pulled in the so there's always a can't post.
- 4:04I go through and tell you guys this because some people just
- 4:08don't know what to expect. So you go in, you drive.
- 4:12If you don't make your point, your reservation online and
- 4:15there is an app for that recreation.gov, it's really
- 4:19easy. I didn't quite decide where I
- 4:23wanted to camp, so I didn't make my reservation early enough and
- 4:30it was a first come, first serve location, which is fine.
- 4:35But the caveat is that you know is you may not get a space or
- 4:39you get a space and you got electricity, but you don't have
- 4:42any water. So when you make your
- 4:47reservations online, they will typically be able to give you A
- 4:51tag. You hang the tag on your vehicle
- 4:54and they will premark your space with it, with your reservation
- 4:59and everything. I didn't do that this time.
- 5:02So they have these little envelopes at the front entrance.
- 5:07If they had don't have a gated this this particular place is
- 5:12not a gated where they have a booth for somebody to sit in.
- 5:17But the camp post walked in, walked over to my truck, saw
- 5:22that I was, you know, I was doing what I was supposed to do
- 5:24to check in. And anyways, they have these
- 5:27envelopes there and you got to fill it out with all your
- 5:32information. Put your, you're going to,
- 5:35there's a place on here to put your passport number that
- 5:39America the Beautiful pass that I just showed you.
- 5:42You're going to put your number there, fill it out with your,
- 5:45your license plate information. And they want cash or check.
- 5:50I don't carry checks with me and I didn't have any cash, so I had
- 5:54to come into town and get some cash.
- 5:58Fortunately Walmart's right here.
- 6:00So I'll get some water, extra water cause I've got water
- 6:05bottles. But you know, I'm only going to
- 6:07be here for two days, so that's fine.
- 6:11Maybe I'll get a bottle of wine, I don't know.
- 6:14So that's kind of the process. And it was just park.
- 6:18So I, I was very blessed. Like I said, the parking, the
- 6:24spot that I got, man, it was like one of the easiest spots
- 6:28I've ever had to back into. So that was one.
- 6:32And two, there was an older gentleman and his granddaughter
- 6:36happened to be riding their bicycles.
- 6:39And he, he was like helping me. I mean, it was like, it was
- 6:45neat. It was really nice that this guy
- 6:48was volunteering to help me and, but, and he's disabled, but he
- 6:54was like, yeah, go ahead. And you got this, You got this.
- 6:57And he was telling me goes, you know, normally it's a guy, it's
- 7:01a man that's driving and he's never, cause I've never seen a
- 7:05woman Back in RV. I was like, OK, well, here I am.
- 7:10Dad taught me well. So he was helping unhook
- 7:15everything and just, you know, yeah, it was such a blessing.
- 7:21And as we were finishing up, there was a a neighbor that of
- 7:26course I had. I'm just getting there, folks.
- 7:28I hadn't even gone to the bathroom yet.
- 7:30And this then there was a neighbor.
- 7:34She came over to talk to me. She actually dragged me over to
- 7:38her campsite and wanted to show me this little pop up, you know,
- 7:45little mini. I want to say it's like a it's
- 7:49like a she called it an extra living room that but it just
- 7:53pops up so easy. That will be so helpful just in
- 7:57case it rains or, you know, just want to sit out there and
- 8:02mellow. Just be mellow.
- 8:03You know it. It's like a yeah, it's a little
- 8:088 by 8. I think it's about what it is,
- 8:10maybe a six by 66 by 6 little pop up, you know, awning thing,
- 8:17but it's netted so you don't have to worry about the bugs
- 8:19flying around or anything. I don't know.
- 8:22I was like, sure, yeah, OK, what a blessing.
- 8:27I just was like, OK, this is the this was all God.
- 8:32All right, So I've been, I left the house yesterday morning at
- 8:392:30 in the morning. I took one, one pit stop.
- 8:45No, I took one pit stop, just that Texas side of just this
- 8:52side of Texas before I moved into Texarkana area and I took,
- 8:59no, actually I went over into Arkansas and stopped at the
- 9:04first rest stop, got some ZS 'cause that was a long haul
- 9:08already. That was nice to do.
- 9:12I think I got like, you know, an hour for that rest and then I
- 9:19took another rest yesterday afternoon.
- 9:25God, I was probably about an hour, so maybe 2 hours before I
- 9:30got to the campground where I'd stayed last night.
- 9:35And that was really good timing for my having pulled off just
- 9:41getting so, you know, my eyes rest.
- 9:43You know, when you're driving like this, you get you get a
- 9:46little hypnotic on the road. When I got back on the highway,
- 9:55traffic was pretty stopped because there was an accident in
- 9:59front of us. And I feel very fortunate that
- 10:04maybe my little pulling off of there saved me from being in
- 10:08something else 'cause it was just it was starting to sprinkle
- 10:12a little bit. I've been very fortunate with
- 10:16the whole rain thing so far because some of the roof repair
- 10:22stuff that I did on the very front of the trailer did not
- 10:26take it. It, yeah, it did not take it
- 10:31didn't stay. So I'm a little frustrated, but
- 10:36it's it's it's OK. I know what I need to do.
- 10:39The problem is that I don't have a ladder with me to get up on
- 10:42the roof again and fix it. So I'm just, I'm just praying
- 10:46that there's no rain and maybe I can get up there in some way and
- 10:52spray some stuff. I do have some spray, a rubber
- 10:57sealant that might be able to help because I'm afraid that it,
- 11:02I had to get up there and fix it to begin with because I knew
- 11:06that I had some, some openings there.
- 11:09And now so far the rain has avoided the RV and I'm parked
- 11:17under some trees that will help protect it if it rains again
- 11:23tonight or tomorrow. So I'm at a campsite for two
- 11:26days. It's really kind of nice to be
- 11:29able to do that and just kind of unplug a little bit.
- 11:34I have some things that I can do with writing on my PhD.
- 11:40I've been woefully behind schedule on doing some of that
- 11:45stuff. So, you know, but it's
- 11:48important. I've been, I've been prepping so
- 11:51hard to get ready for this trip and making sure that I had, you
- 11:56know, some things ready for the trailer that I have neglected
- 12:03some of the other things that I was supposed to do.
- 12:05So isn't that funny how life works like that?
- 12:08But then I'm gonna have these two days to just kind of chill.
- 12:15I'm looking, I'm really looking forward to that 'cause even
- 12:21though my work location at the house, you know, has improved,
- 12:28I'm still working the 10 hour days and and I've still been
- 12:32trying to hustle on the trailer and everything else.
- 12:36So I know I get it. Some of it's been pressures I
- 12:39put on myself. But I want to talk about that,
- 12:42right? Aren't we?
- 12:44We do a lot of things, we put pressure on ourselves.
- 12:49But then there is a purpose in this, right?
- 12:52I mean, this, my show's called From Pain to Purpose.
- 12:55Think about it. These are some pain steps that
- 12:58I've gone through to get things ready so that I can help do the
- 13:06purpose side of things. And, and I'll be broadcasting
- 13:10live next Saturday at Dominion Raceway with Rally for Vets.
- 13:19So that is exciting. You know, last year that was so
- 13:22cool. I got to get in the Miata and
- 13:27race around the race track. So if you haven't ever done that
- 13:31and you're looking for an adrenaline rush, that is super
- 13:35fun. Yeah.
- 13:39I, I like going fast. I can't help it, you know, maybe
- 13:42it's in the blood. I, my parents especially dad
- 13:46was, you know, Dad did Jeep racing when I was young, and
- 13:53that was, that was a lot of fun. Yeah.
- 13:58Going fast is good. I don't know that I want to do
- 14:02it all. It's an expensive hobby.
- 14:04And obviously I can't race my truck around a racetrack.
- 14:08Don't think I didn't think about it, but I know what my truck can
- 14:12do. But I have to be able to drive
- 14:14it and get back to Texas, too. So yeah, there's that kind of
- 14:20think of what else you know, but in some ways the whole point
- 14:28like no matter whether you're participating in something like
- 14:34Rally for Vets, some of the other nonprofits that I have
- 14:40gone out with and done things Deep Sea Valkyries, the one take
- 14:47away. I let's let's think about it.
- 14:49The one thing that I think really, no matter whether you're
- 14:57hunting, and I haven't gone hunting yet, that's happening
- 15:01for me at the end of September, whether you're fishing, and I've
- 15:05done the fishing before, fly fishing, love to fly fish.
- 15:09It's cold, yes, I'm out there in the water.
- 15:12I've caught the trout, love it. It's a great feeling to, you
- 15:17know, reel it in is that and and when you're scuba diving, you're
- 15:23down there in the water and you see all the rest of the creation
- 15:27that God created all the thing that the the theme between all
- 15:38of those events is being in the moment right there.
- 15:44I want you to think about it, whether you're on the racetrack
- 15:47and you're having to take that concentration and, and it's
- 15:51about, you know, your torque and turning and this, that and the
- 15:57cantilever of what the vehicle's doing making, you know, you got
- 16:08to, you got to think about all those things.
- 16:11The same thing happens when you're racing.
- 16:13You got to remember to breathe too, because, believe me, you
- 16:16get so focused on where you're going.
- 16:20I got to breathe. I was just even, you know, even
- 16:23when I was driving for the past two days pulling the trailer, I
- 16:28and I here I am listening to you know, I, I binge listen to you
- 16:33know, a shows on Netflix. You don't really watch it, but
- 16:36you listen to it. But here I am driving.
- 16:39You got to remember to breathe. And I know that sounds crazy,
- 16:43but you have to like just, I have to relax my body and I have
- 16:48to remember to breathe and calm everything down.
- 16:52You have to remember to be in the moment of where you are and
- 16:57what you're doing. And what does that matter when
- 17:01you get anxious, when you get depressed, when you're feeling
- 17:06like a little ah or you're in a group, in an environment to be,
- 17:20you got to be mindful and be present, right?
- 17:24And just settle yourself down and remember to breathe,
- 17:30remember to just relax. You know, I mean, that's part of
- 17:36just, I was remembering that as I was driving for the last two
- 17:39days to, you know, shift my hips, relax my shoulders and my
- 17:47neck. When you, when your body starts
- 17:51doing some things, you gotta remember to just just relax and
- 17:56breathe through it. I was very mindful about that.
- 18:04You know, like when I've gone scuba diving, you get excited
- 18:09about chasing, you know, a fish you get, you know, you, you get
- 18:17caught in the current or just, you know, you see the turtle
- 18:21swimming by or a shark and you tend to want to breathe faster.
- 18:26And that affects your buoyancy. Same thing is going to happen
- 18:30when you're on the racetrack and you're turning those corners.
- 18:34But you got to remember to breathe and you got to remember
- 18:36to relax. You get anxious about whatever.
- 18:39You got to remember to breathe and relax.
- 18:44I don't care what you're going through.
- 18:47And sometimes we have to remember to remind ourselves of
- 18:51these things, to breathe and relax.
- 18:56I've seen some people posting lately, but they're on edge on
- 19:00things. Remember to breathe and relax.
- 19:03Go and find some green space. That's why I enjoy getting out
- 19:12and enjoying recreation.gov. Go out there and enjoy the green
- 19:20space. There is something about the
- 19:24green noise. You hear the if you just close
- 19:27your eyes, right, you sit in your little chair, You're out
- 19:31there in the woods. Maybe you want to lay on the
- 19:34ground. You know I wouldn't it's wet,
- 19:37but I wouldn't lay on there right now.
- 19:40But sit in your chair and you want to just hear the green
- 19:47noise, that space, right? The leaves are rustling.
- 19:52And chances are you're not going to be surrounded by all of these
- 19:58frequencies, the all the electronic frequencies, right?
- 20:03The RF frequencies because there's there's no cell signal
- 20:11down there, right? Or at least where I'm at for the
- 20:15next two days. It's, it's, it's at a low point
- 20:18by a Creek and the, there is no cell service down there.
- 20:24There's, I'll be lucky if the antenna works 'cause where I was
- 20:28last night, the antenna didn't work.
- 20:31And that was actually near a dam.
- 20:35And maybe they have something turned off and you can't get,
- 20:38but it was down there at water level below the dam.
- 20:42So, you know, maybe maybe they had it.
- 20:48It's getting cold in here now. Maybe they had.
- 20:59Sorry, somehow I accidentally muted myself, but I got it.
- 21:06Enjoy. You got to remember to enjoy
- 21:10life. The world gets a little crazy
- 21:14with all of the news and just things going on.
- 21:18And I get it. School just started, lots of
- 21:22people planning things for the fall.
- 21:25You know, it's a time where people start getting ramped up
- 21:29with different clubs that you're in and stuff.
- 21:32I want to remind you to just make sure you don't get so
- 21:36wrapped up into being busy for everybody else they you forget
- 21:43to be present for you. That's really important.
- 21:49It was, you know, I was on Amanda Moore's show the other
- 21:52day and there was something that, you know, she, it was sad.
- 21:56I remember her posting about a month or so ago that she stepped
- 22:01back from an event that she, you know, a hobby that she really
- 22:06enjoyed doing. And how many of us get wrapped
- 22:11up in in doing, Let's say it's a club.
- 22:15You get so wrapped up in doing the life of the club that you
- 22:21forget to be present for who you are, taking care of your needs,
- 22:26taking care of your family needs.
- 22:29We have to remember that we don't let life run us.
- 22:34We are supposed to be present for ourselves and remember who
- 22:39we're serving. I serve God, yes, I know I'm on
- 22:44this mission. I can't I drove 1000 miles week
- 22:48in advance to be able to to come and do this, you know,
- 22:57commentate on Raleigh for vets, but I believe in the mission.
- 23:01I, you know, it's just such a phenomenal opportunity too
- 23:07'cause it's one of those rare events where all 5 branches are
- 23:13represented and I get to call the race and that is, you know,
- 23:19that sounds exciting to me. I love the challenge of it and I
- 23:23committed to doing it last year. So I am a woman of my word.
- 23:30I was not going to let it fall through the cracks and say, you
- 23:33know, sorry, I'm in Texas now. I can't do that.
- 23:38I could have, and nobody would have faulted me for it.
- 23:42Yeah, I don't think anybody would have faulted me.
- 23:44I mean, things happen in life. Now, if I've been sick or
- 23:49something else, that would be a different story.
- 23:52And certainly I could have done this with just my tent.
- 23:56And that's not preventing me from traveling before with just
- 24:00me in the tent. But I wanted to be able to get
- 24:03the RV, you know, to I I've been renovating it, getting it Rd.
- 24:13worthy still have some TLC to give it when I get back.
- 24:18So hopefully I like somethings. Maybe it's light.
- 24:24Yeah, just light. I I want to make you know what
- 24:30this is a rolling studio. I think that's, you know,
- 24:35something that God's been kind of pressing on me to take, you
- 24:39know, to take the mission that from pain to purpose and
- 24:43revivalist mission to the people.
- 24:47If maybe the people are not coming on the show or listening
- 24:50to show, let's take the show to the people.
- 24:52So that's that's what I've been doing.
- 24:57Yeah. I know something a little silly.
- 25:04I don't know. I'm just curious.
- 25:05Is anybody, is anybody feeling called to do something?
- 25:09I would love to hear if you are, you know, if you have something
- 25:16that you're working on, what is your new mission?
- 25:19And let's share, you know, share those opportunities.
- 25:24What are you doing that I I, what is your pain to purpose?
- 25:28I mean, it's, it's fun listening to people who are expanding
- 25:37their horizons. Maybe you want to start a radio
- 25:39show to reach out. Hey, I'm not always, not always
- 25:43in studio with the makeup on, looking prim and proper.
- 25:48This is the this is, you know, sometimes it's just where the
- 25:52rubber meets the road, literally, right?
- 25:56What are you? You know, what are you doing?
- 25:58There are lots of people who have a from pain to purpose
- 26:01story who are likely looking for some inspiration and need to
- 26:09hear what you were doing. What you know what what, what
- 26:15are you doing in your life? Let me tell you where this gum
- 26:21Oops, oops, sorry. Let's see, I know part of it is
- 26:28I'm hungry. I am thirsty.
- 26:31I did eat a Bucky's burrito this morning, and I didn't have
- 26:37nearly as much coffee as I normally do.
- 26:42So yeah, I'm actually kind of under nourished today.
- 26:48So I'm anxious to be able to get back to the trailer and fix some
- 26:52dinner. Yeah, because I haven't had
- 26:55lunch. Didn't snack on anything really
- 26:58in the truck today when I was driving.
- 27:00I don't even need any pistachios.
- 27:02I did have some chocolate M&M's, but I haven't had any lunch.
- 27:05So I'm a little malnourished today.
- 27:08It's probably why I'm feeling like this.
- 27:10Got some crackers, but I got some crackers and cheese.
- 27:14Maybe I'll snack on that on the way back.
- 27:18Yeah, So what else is going on? I'll be in the, I'll actually be
- 27:25working in the office this week and I'm camping at Fort Belvoir.
- 27:33So I most of these posts have an MWR facility and some of them
- 27:46have campgrounds too. So I'm actually going to be
- 27:49camping at Fort Belvoir this week.
- 27:53So that's why I'm at my camp spot today and tomorrow and I'll
- 27:58check out Monday morning, hit the road and go to Fort Belvoir,
- 28:03which is really nice 'cause it's not very far from the office.
- 28:07I can just, I could either drive or metro over to get to the
- 28:14office. So that's pretty, pretty
- 28:17exciting, a little different. And that way I didn't have to
- 28:21take any leave to go do this. I didn't want to drive.
- 28:27You know, I could have flown. I get it.
- 28:30I could have flown, probably would have with the gas that
- 28:32I've spent, I probably could have just flown in.
- 28:38But I don't know, you know, I enjoy the challenge.
- 28:42I guess I enjoy the challenge and testing the RV and
- 28:47everything, but I love the opportunity.
- 28:50Get out and you know, see the woods, see the countryside, get
- 28:55the green air. You can't get the green air in
- 28:58the airplane. So I, I laugh at myself
- 29:04sometimes about some of the things, you know, some of the
- 29:08things that I do. But I, I'm going to enjoy the
- 29:12green space, like I said, and just, you know, unplug, do some
- 29:17writing for a couple of days. And yeah, I think I might, I, I
- 29:23brought some of the improvement projects with me, so I can do
- 29:30some of that while I'm parked in one space too.
- 29:34I can put some more of the ceiling up.
- 29:36I can do some more of the flooring and pray that it
- 29:41doesn't rain and kept gushing inside because of because of the
- 29:46roof stuff. But I don't know, maybe I can
- 29:49figure out a way I can stand on the I, I I've been trying to
- 29:53wrap my head around what if I stand on the truck and get up
- 29:59there? Maybe that could work.
- 30:01We'll see how, how ambitious, that's the word.
- 30:10Maybe I can try to be ambitious and spray the rubber stuff up on
- 30:15the road, up on the roof, up there.
- 30:18We'll see. So anyways, so get back to the
- 30:24MWR. I've stayed at other MWR places
- 30:27as well. If you know that you're going to
- 30:30go somewhere, you know any of the forts post naval bases,
- 30:36whatever, chances are they have they have.
- 30:48You can stay in RV's motorhomes, go online and look.
- 30:53And that's exactly what I did last year.
- 30:56I stayed at a naval place on, not on the Eastern Shore of
- 31:00Maryland. It was on the West, was on the
- 31:03other Bayside. That was a nice little
- 31:07campground. So that's all I did at at Fort
- 31:11Belvoir is I looked up there MWR and they had a campground and
- 31:17made reservations. You can prepay.
- 31:19This one's a little pricier than most, but actually I'm going to
- 31:24get a Bayview. So I'm pretty excited.
- 31:27I get basically I am right there on the water.
- 31:32So that will be in, you know. So yeah, sometimes you're gonna
- 31:38pay a little bit more, but compared to some of the
- 31:43commercial marketplaces for RV, it's becoming a little bit more
- 31:48competitive because there are more people who are living in
- 31:51RV's than were just traveling. Something else to consider, You
- 31:57know, I know that there are is a movement for people to do expat
- 32:02traveling internationally, but there are a lot of people who
- 32:08also live in their RV, travel across the they travel across
- 32:15country, but there are there is a way to stay at campsites for
- 32:20free, go to volunteer.gov. Maybe I need to go ahead and
- 32:26type that in the? Type that into the comments
- 32:36volunteer.gov and there are places that you can be a camp
- 32:42host. So I didn't so there.
- 32:47So there are a variety of different federal government
- 32:50campgrounds hosted by the USDA. Some of them are Corps of
- 32:55Engineers, let's say. You know, I think the DODODOD
- 33:01ones through MDOBMWR are different, but the volunteer.gov
- 33:07ones, you can be a camp host. You don't necessarily have to
- 33:11have an RV because sometimes they have cabins, They have a
- 33:16housing facility available, like maybe they have a cot.
- 33:21Sometimes they're lighthouses. They need somebody to stay on
- 33:26property and you are the ticket taker.
- 33:29Remember, like the guy that I was telling you that the guy
- 33:32came out from his RV, The the Campos, they stay for free and
- 33:40typically they want to get a book maybe four to six months to
- 33:46stay there. And you're not very far.
- 33:49This was only 10. Let's see, I'm trying to think
- 33:53about how far. I'm like 10 miles from the
- 33:58campground and I'm in, I'm in a town that's got Lowe's and
- 34:02Walmart and plenty of stuff here.
- 34:05Dunkin' Donuts is right there. So you can, you can stay as a
- 34:10camp post for free. There was my first time going
- 34:16across country. There was a young veteran with
- 34:20his two daughters and he was homeschooling his daughters and
- 34:27he was a camp host. He loved doing it and he he only
- 34:33had the cost of his RV and he had a truck and he was planning
- 34:37on being there for at least six months or so, which is perfect
- 34:42for the school year. I he probably, you know,
- 34:46extended longer, but he could go wherever And you know, it's a
- 34:53it's a low key way of keeping your expenses down, staying
- 34:59someplace for free utilities. They typically also offer Wi-Fi
- 35:07for the host because you got to be able to connect to download
- 35:12what the reservations are and they fill out the little stub
- 35:17and put it on the campsite. It's it's really minimal work.
- 35:23You really just kind of that face person for what you're
- 35:27doing and answering questions. And you know, that guy was
- 35:31really nice and told me which spot was open, that it wasn't
- 35:38booked 'cause I told you it was first come, first serve.
- 35:41Told me where to go ahead and park.
- 35:43I got the electricity. Don't have water.
- 35:45That's fine. I always keep spare 2 gallon.
- 35:49Yeah, one of those two gallon waters if I keep spare water.
- 35:54I didn't fill up enough water in my tank, but that's OK.
- 35:59I took a shower last night, washed my hair and everything.
- 36:02It's why it's all frizzy and I'm not doing anything for the next
- 36:07two days. And once I get to Fort Belvoir,
- 36:10I'll be able to hook up my water and be fine.
- 36:12But I've got enough water to do any dishes I have to make my
- 36:17coffee in the morning. And the minimal, right?
- 36:21The minimal, Yeah, 'cause I know I don't have enough water in the
- 36:24tank. I didn't fill up, but I wasn't.
- 36:27I don't like if I can help it, I don't carry the extra water in
- 36:31the tank because that's more water that I am having to tow.
- 36:38So I just try to avoid the extra water when I'm traveling like
- 36:43that. Anyways, lesson learned.
- 36:47Yeah, it's a lesson learned. I'm OK Lesson learn on things.
- 36:51I was just trying to keep it minimal.
- 36:54And, you know, we can second girse ourselves all the time,
- 36:58but it's all right. But at least last night I was
- 37:01figuring out how to get the TV hooked up 'cause I had installed
- 37:06a new antenna. But I think where I was camped
- 37:11last night, it was too far. It was too low in order to, you
- 37:15know, to be able to get any kind of antenna service.
- 37:19Which is fine 'cause guess who was smart enough to bring some
- 37:23DVDs? I have, I have a DVD player.
- 37:26I have DVD's will travel no problem.
- 37:30And that's OK. You know, I'm unplugging
- 37:33anyways. So the only thing I need to do,
- 37:36like on my computer is start doing some of the, doing some of
- 37:43the writing I need to do for, for my PhD.
- 37:48And I don't need to connect to the Internet for any of that
- 37:51because it's all in my head and part of the report that I have.
- 37:57So I just have to, you know, sit down and focus and do that.
- 38:01And, and, and in a lot of ways, I'm cutting out all of the
- 38:06distractions. How many of you ever purposely
- 38:09do that? Cutting out distractions 'cause
- 38:12I think in many ways we get caught up with distractions
- 38:20like, you know, the whole hey, there's a squirrel, there's a
- 38:23squirrel I'm we see too many squirrels in life.
- 38:29Sometimes we get caught up with chasing the squirrels and we
- 38:35like what I was saying while I go.
- 38:36We don't stay present for where we're supposed to be.
- 38:44And that causes extra anxiety, right?
- 38:47That causes extra challenges that we don't need.
- 38:54It causes extra anxiety trying to meet everybody else's
- 39:00expectations. And we have to remember to be
- 39:04present for ourselves. And the expectation is only
- 39:09really about making sure that we're doing what we're supposed
- 39:16to do for God, for and taking care of ourselves.
- 39:23You know, I was talking with somebody other day and they were
- 39:26like, I don't really feel good. Well, what are you doing?
- 39:30You know, I, they, they are so busy doing so many other things,
- 39:36not eating the right food, not getting enough exercise, not
- 39:44being probably all anxious about things and not being present for
- 39:49themselves. And, you know, I'm like, I'm
- 39:53looking, I'm looking in the camera and trying to look at you
- 39:57guys. And I'm like, well, my eyes feel
- 40:00like they're bluer Today. My hair is looking more blonde.
- 40:07My daughter told me the other day she goes, you're looking
- 40:09really tan. And that's, you know, I don't
- 40:12have any makeup on. I'm not having to wear makeup.
- 40:15I don't think, you know, that my skin feels healthier.
- 40:22I don't know. I just I have had more energy.
- 40:24I have felt so much better being back in, being back home, being
- 40:30back in Texas. And I'm not, I'm not struggling
- 40:35mentally when I was working such crazy hours with the commute and
- 40:44everything that's I, I had to get my work life balanced back.
- 40:50And you know, yes, I know I have this week.
- 40:54It will challenge because I haven't, haven't done this
- 40:58particular commute, but it's not too bad.
- 41:04And then I'll have the drive all the way back again and I'll be
- 41:09home for a few weeks and then I'll be headed to Wyoming.
- 41:12Now, when I go to Wyoming, I'm not taking the trailer.
- 41:16It is just a week, but I'm, I'm going there for a whole
- 41:21different purpose. At least I'm not planning to
- 41:23take the trailer. I, I, I think because I, because
- 41:30of the roof, until I can get that roof, all I've got to hurry
- 41:34up and get that taken care of. But I didn't finish getting it
- 41:38taken care of before I left Texas because I did not get the
- 41:42materials that I needed in time and it was too hot.
- 41:47When I read the instructions about putting the rubberized
- 41:51roof sealant on, it was too hot and I didn't want to mess with
- 41:58trying to do all of that hard work and it be too hot to take.
- 42:02So I'm just I'm having to wait so when I get back then I can
- 42:08probably spend it as it gets a little bit cooler.
- 42:12But before I go to Wyoming, I'll get the roof done and but at
- 42:17least it'll be cooler and I'm not going to be fighting that
- 42:22heat up there. That was that kind of was
- 42:25bothering me too, just doing so much of that roof work and it
- 42:32was so hot outside. I mean, it was 103 one day when
- 42:35I was out there. So this, this is OK.
- 42:40When I go camping, when I go hunting, I should say, it'll be
- 42:44camping at a trailhead. And so the situation is not
- 42:49going to be like it's at one of these recreation.gov locations.
- 42:55It's at a trailhead. So you know, it'll be just
- 42:58parking with my truck and I've got a tent and I'll take all of
- 43:02that stuff, which is OK. I'm equipped for all of that.
- 43:06It'll be pretty. It'll be exciting.
- 43:10So Brave Souls United is, is the nonprofit that I'm doing that
- 43:15with. I'm actually building the the
- 43:20female veteran program, which is pretty cool.
- 43:24So I'm learning it all from the ground up, which is good because
- 43:29I don't have any pre biased to go in and say oh, no, Oh, this
- 43:39is pants. I got the camo shirt.
- 43:50I got an extra jacket just in case.
- 43:53Fortunately, I have my hiking poles are ready.
- 43:58I've got let's see. Oh, of course.
- 44:03I've got my boots. So I've got those.
- 44:07Yeah. It should be pretty good.
- 44:10Yeah, should be. I don't have a camo hat.
- 44:13Gotta hide the hair. Yeah, I have to get a hat.
- 44:15I have to. May I have to go find a hat.
- 44:19That's something to think of. I'm trying to think of what
- 44:23else? Busy, Busy.
- 44:29Busy. I don't have any guess, I don't
- 44:33think I don't have my little calendar that look, we're I
- 44:39think my backpack in the back seat has my calendar.
- 44:43I don't think I have any other guests booked in September.
- 44:47So if you want to be on my show, make sure you reach out to me.
- 44:52I'll have those couple of weeks. I don't think I have anybody.
- 44:57I've talked to some people, but we haven't set dates on things.
- 45:01So if you want to come on the show, make sure you reach out to
- 45:05me. Be a guest.
- 45:10I'll add this. There we go.
- 45:21I put that. Yeah.
- 45:24Want to be a guest? e-mail me.
- 45:27So I put that out there. There's my e-mail address.
- 45:32Eva at MB Radio dot US here. Is that website volunteer.gov.
- 45:39That's the one I was telling you about.
- 45:44If you do, you know, I've met some really nice camp posts
- 45:50there, quite a few veterans who do the camp post thing.
- 45:53It's a win win guys. And you know, some of the camp
- 45:58posts that I talked with when I was traveling to Texas the last
- 46:03time, they, they were making their way across the country
- 46:09visiting different kids. And they would stay at, you
- 46:14know, stay at one location for a couple of months, which was nice
- 46:20because they, they, they could trade off with other people when
- 46:26they wanted to. So let's say because they, they
- 46:31become a network, you can text or e-mail, you know, some of
- 46:34these other camp posts and say, hey, I want to go to Florida and
- 46:39you could go camp post in Florida.
- 46:47I know people who can't post in Hawaii.
- 46:50That was the Internet connection guy.
- 46:52Sorry, I I am in the truck. Can't help it, but it looks like
- 46:57it came back OK. And yeah, I'm sorry, it's a busy
- 47:03parking lot. It's nothing but cars going all
- 47:06over the place. I'm trying to think of what
- 47:12else? It's just a busy time.
- 47:21I don't know somebody's, I guess they're going to carpool or
- 47:26something. It's always funny to watch what
- 47:31what people are doing. They park in the parking lot and
- 47:36then they go carpool with somebody else someplace.
- 47:40So I don't know. When I first got here, there
- 47:45were some people back there and somebody with a motorcycle and
- 47:48they were yelling. I don't know what was going on.
- 47:52Just interesting. Just interesting.
- 47:56Oh, I know. Well, I think people are getting
- 47:59ready for football games and stuff like that.
- 48:02So yeah, that's what they look like.
- 48:06They're. Yeah.
- 48:10You know, I was in Tennessee earlier and they were all
- 48:12wearing the orange shirts. I think they were headed to, you
- 48:16know, a football game. It is Saturday.
- 48:18So these people look like they're probably headed to a
- 48:21football game to different colored orange shirts.
- 48:25But it's not the same as 'cause they they get Virginia tag.
- 48:30So anyways, it's football season, so hopefully everybody's
- 48:36out there enjoying and having fun.
- 48:41I don't know, you know, this is I think the whole point of it is
- 48:46many ways is just enjoying life and remember to breathe and be
- 48:51present and reach out. And you know, that's the other
- 48:55thing though, reach out to somebody and and ask him to go
- 48:59out with you. Go go camping.
- 49:02Get out there. It's going to be great weather
- 49:04this fall. Get out there and enjoy the
- 49:08great outdoors. There's lots of opportunities
- 49:12and don't let don't become a hermit and just sit at home
- 49:18going nowhere fast. Get out there and enjoy life.
- 49:22Get out there and see different terrain, go visit different
- 49:26parks. There are things to do.
- 49:28You know, most of these states, like even when I was in Florida,
- 49:36veterans, you can go camping. I think they have the camping
- 49:40pass for free. They have a the state itself has
- 49:44a pass that you can go camping for free.
- 49:48Pretty sure Texas has one too. I don't have Texas pass.
- 49:53I need to go visit one of the grounds and get that pass.
- 49:57So you know, you, you can look up the resources in the state
- 50:04where you live and get involved. Go out there and, and, and live.
- 50:10Many of these trails have hiking friendly trails.
- 50:15Go get some hiking sticks and get out there.
- 50:18Take some water, take a buddy, go have some fun.
- 50:21So anyways, next Saturday I will be at Dominion Raceway with
- 50:27Raleigh for Vets and it's going to be fun.
- 50:31I will be commentating the race and maybe while I'm in here in
- 50:35Walmart I'll get some crayons for the marine.
- 50:38So anyways, y'all have a fantastic week and follow me
- 50:45next Saturday 'cause I like I said I'll be I'll be on most of
- 50:50the day and it will be a hoot. OK so y'all have a fabulous week
- 50:56and enjoy. Hi, I'm beaker with military
