Speaker 1: We're keeping it personal and real, sharing our own rush
• 1:30
Speaker 1: stories and what sorority life has meant to us.
• 1:32
Speaker 4: So let's get started.
• 1:34
Speaker 2: Okay, guys, So I am Jen Fessler. You may know
• 1:38
Speaker 2: me from the Housewives of New Jersey, but we are
• 1:41
Speaker 2: not here to talk housewives. We are here to talk
• 1:43
Speaker 2: about something that I went through about a million years
• 1:47
Speaker 2: ago at the University of Texas. At Austin, I rushed
• 1:53
Speaker 2: my junior year. Actually, I transferred from Boston University. I
• 1:56
Speaker 2: started out in Boston even though I'm from Texas, and
• 1:59
Speaker 2: I really felt like I was missing out. I was.
• 2:01
Speaker 2: Boston is a city school, and UT is the quintessential
• 2:07
Speaker 2: college experience in the South. The sororities are big, the
• 2:12
Speaker 2: girls are mean. It's everything that you sort of picture,
• 2:16
Speaker 2: at least what I pictured before I entered this crazy
• 2:20
Speaker 2: world of Greek life and rushing, and my rush experience
• 2:26
Speaker 2: I'm going to say was tense, anxiety provoking, exciting, a
• 2:33
Speaker 2: little puky, But I think probably less stressful than what
• 2:38
Speaker 2: you guys have or had experience, and certainly less stressful
• 2:43
Speaker 2: than what goes down today. I can tell you that
• 2:47
Speaker 2: I rushed every sorority house at the University of Texas,
• 2:50
Speaker 2: but as a Jewish woman, I knew that I was
• 2:54
Speaker 2: going to or. I wanted to end up in one
• 2:56
Speaker 2: of the three Jewish sororities, and the three were AE FI,
• 3:02
Speaker 2: which and please forgive me, because again I just want
• 3:04
Speaker 2: to puke a little bit. But a FI, which was
• 3:07
Speaker 2: the Pretty Girl Sorority SDT, which was the Nice Girl sorority,
• 3:12
Speaker 2: and DeFi E again, please forgive me. I didn't make
• 3:16
Speaker 2: it up, but they called it dogs, pigs, and elephants.
• 3:18
  Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I don't know. It's horrifying. Like as now
• 3:23
Speaker 2: an almost fifty seven year old woman, I want to
• 3:26
Speaker 2: take my night. What is I twenty year old self
• 3:30
Speaker 2: and just kind of hold her because it was so scary.
• 3:34
Speaker 2: And I remember walking into these big because in Texas
• 3:38
Speaker 2: everything is big, these big sorority houses, and the girls
• 3:42
Speaker 2: were all beautiful, and they were all thin, and they
• 3:45
Speaker 2: were all perky, and I was none of those things.
• 3:48
Speaker 2: But I was transferring and I had very good friends
• 3:53
Speaker 2: who were part of the Pretty Girl Sorority, which was
• 3:56
Speaker 2: a FI. The thing is, I felt more comfortable in
• 4:00
Speaker 2: the Nice Girl Sorority SDT. But from the beginning, all
• 4:04
Speaker 2: I wanted was what I think you guys call now
• 4:07
  Speaker 2: top tier tier.
• 4:10
  Speaker 4: That's what I wanted.
• 4:11
  Speaker 2: That's what I wanted, and that's what I got, And
• 4:15
Speaker 2: for good or bad, I became an A five. So,
• 4:20
Speaker 2: which will delve into those years, of course, but I
• 4:23
Speaker 2: want to hear about you, guys, and just a little bit.
• 4:26
Speaker 2: Tell me a little bit about what schools and a
• 4:28
Speaker 2: little bit about your own personal experiences.
• 4:31
Speaker 4: Yeah, so I am Gsju Dice.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: Some of you might have known me from growing up
• 4:37
Speaker 1: on The Royal Housewives in New Jersey.
• 4:39
  Speaker 4: Now I have a new.
• 4:40
Speaker 1: Show on Bravo called Next Gen NYC and a podcast
• 4:44
Speaker 1: called Casual Chaos. So my years of my career really
• 4:49
Speaker 1: started to evolve once I graduated from college. I graduated
• 4:54
Speaker 1: from Rutgers University and I rushed my freshman year. I
• 5:00
Speaker 1: rushed my freshman year second semester, and I was one
• 5:04
Speaker 1: of a few of my friends actually that did rush
• 5:08
Speaker 1: because a lot of them did not reach the GPA requirement.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: So to rush at Rutgers, you had to have a
• 5:17
Speaker 1: two point five GPA, and some of my friends, honestly,
• 5:21
Speaker 1: a lot of my friends didn't have that, so I
• 5:24
Speaker 1: was a little nervous.
• 5:25
Speaker 4: I didn't know if I then wanted to wait.
• 5:27
Speaker 1: Until my sophomore year to rush because all of my
• 5:30
Speaker 1: freshman year friends and all of the girls in my
• 5:33
Speaker 1: dorm weren't rushing. So I was kind of going in alone.
• 5:37
Speaker 1: I knew a couple people that were still rushing and
• 5:40
Speaker 1: that were able to rush, but I kind of went
• 5:42
Speaker 1: through the whole rush process by myself. So Rutgers is
• 5:48
Speaker 1: not like Alabama. I definitely don't think it's like Texas
• 5:52
Speaker 1: about it. So to give you a little backstory, I mean,
• 5:57
Speaker 1: Rutgers is in New Brunswick.
• 6:00
Speaker 4: It's not the best area. It's not the best town.
• 6:03
Speaker 1: Rutgers kind of takes over New Brunswick and New Jersey.
• 6:07
Speaker 1: So not to be like rude, but the town's a
• 6:11
Speaker 1: little gringe. I mean, it's it's not like there were
• 6:16
Speaker 1: shootings breake ins. I mean, it's definitely rough. So I
• 6:21
Speaker 1: think Greek life definitely kind of gave a light to Rutgers,
• 6:27
Speaker 1: and it was either you were in Greek life or
• 6:30
Speaker 1: you were with the people who played sports, and so
• 6:34
  Speaker 1: I decided to.
• 6:35
Speaker 4: Rush my freshman year. And there were.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: Top tier sororities and they were ZTA, G, FI, SDT,
• 6:46
Speaker 1: and FI SIG. So those were like the top four
• 6:49
Speaker 1: sororities that you wanted to be in while I was
• 6:52
Speaker 1: going through the rush process. It was a three day process,
• 6:56
Speaker 1: or no, it was a couple of weekends. Actually, the
• 6:58
Speaker 1: first weekend was going to see all the houses. So
• 7:03
Speaker 1: I think Rutgers had about eleven sororities, so we it
• 7:08
  Speaker 1: was different rounds.
• 7:09
Speaker 4: So the one round then it was Philanthropy was the
• 7:13
  Speaker 4: last round.
• 7:15
Speaker 1: I'm like blanking on the second round, you blocked it, Yeah,
• 7:20
  Speaker 1: I'm blank.
• 7:21
Speaker 4: Sisterhood, yes, yes, yes, yes, I think.
• 7:24
Speaker 1: So there were there were three rounds of the recruitment
• 7:26
Speaker 1: process and it was three weekends. So the first weekend
• 7:30
Speaker 1: was really seeing all the houses, seeing who called you back,
• 7:35
Speaker 1: and that was definitely intense because you were trying to
• 7:38
Speaker 1: impress all these different sororities. And there were sororities right
• 7:42
Speaker 1: off the bat where yeah, you're judging a book by
• 7:45
Speaker 1: its cover. I knew that I did not want to
• 7:48
Speaker 1: be in any of these. Some of them also didn't
• 7:51
Speaker 1: have houses, so that was a big thing you would want.
• 7:55
Speaker 1: I knew I wanted to live in the sorority house,
• 7:58
Speaker 1: so that's why I ad a lot from my list.
• 8:02
Speaker 1: And then you know, it's all based off of first impression,
• 8:05
Speaker 1: and some people at the time just weren't my cup
• 8:08
  Speaker 1: of tea.
• 8:09
Speaker 4: So as you eliminate, they eliminate you. You go through
• 8:12
  Speaker 4: this process.
• 8:15
Speaker 1: Then it came down to philanthropy where you pick your
• 8:19
Speaker 1: top three, and I picked FI, sig.
• 8:24
  Speaker 4: Gfi, and ZTA.
• 8:27
Speaker 1: I was kind of gravitated towards SDT, but they had
• 8:33
Speaker 1: a bad rep, even though I really liked the girls,
• 8:36
Speaker 1: So I dropped SDT even though I probably shouldn't have,
• 8:42
Speaker 1: and I went with FI, sig Gfi, and Zeta because
• 8:46
Speaker 1: they were top tier at Rutgers.
• 8:48
Speaker 4: And they had the best rep.
• 8:50
Speaker 1: And so then I went through it all, and even
• 8:55
Speaker 1: though I was probably more gravitated towards GFI, at the
• 8:59
Speaker 1: end of everything, ZTA had the nicer house and the
• 9:03
Speaker 1: better chef and just all of the amenities that I
• 9:08
Speaker 1: thought were nicer in what you were paying for, because
• 9:12
Speaker 1: sorority was like paying for a sorority was also crazy.
• 9:17
Speaker 4: So at the end of the day.
• 9:18
Speaker 1: I then chose ZTA because majority of my friends who
• 9:23
Speaker 1: were older and from my hometown were in ZTA because
• 9:28
Speaker 1: a lot of people from my hometown went to Rutgers
• 9:30
Speaker 1: it was a Jersey school. And then I ended up
• 9:33
Speaker 1: choosing ZTA and that was my rush story.
• 9:38
Speaker 2: Can I just asked one question about going through it.
• 9:40
Speaker 2: I can't imagine going through it as a famous person. Yeah,
• 9:44
Speaker 2: I mean, I can't imagine how that transformed that experience
• 9:48
  Speaker 2: for you. I think I don't know. I'm guessing that
• 9:49
Speaker 2: it was probably different for you. I don't know if
• 9:51
Speaker 2: it was harder or easier because being Gia Judice.
• 9:55
  Speaker 4: I mean I think I went.
• 9:57
Speaker 1: I think it was a little easier in the sense
• 9:59
Speaker 1: of nobody that I know, this sounds like screwed up,
• 10:03
Speaker 1: and nobody that I wanted dropped me. So no sorority
• 10:07
Speaker 1: actually dropped me or I never felt that like horrible
• 10:12
Speaker 1: feeling in my stomach. Yeah, I honestly, I didn't feel
• 10:15
Speaker 1: too much pressure. If anything, I felt the pressure.
• 10:18
Speaker 4: Of choosing the right one.
• 10:20
Speaker 1: And at the end of the day, because of who
• 10:24
Speaker 1: I was and who my family was, I chose ZTA
• 10:27
Speaker 1: because people knew me from home and that.
• 10:30
  Speaker 4: Sorority, So.
• 10:33
Speaker 1: I felt like a sense of comfort and I was like, Okay,
• 10:36
Speaker 1: people from my hometown are here. My best friend ended
• 10:39
Speaker 1: up becoming my big which we can get all into that,
• 10:42
Speaker 1: but I I think I just felt more comfortable and
• 10:46
Speaker 1: kind of protected in a way I don't know.
• 10:49
Speaker 4: And I was also so nervous in.
• 10:51
Speaker 1: College to just have fake friends, so it was kind
• 10:54
Speaker 1: of that whole thing.
• 10:56
Speaker 2: You guys, we have so much more to get to,
• 10:59
Speaker 2: but I got to tell you we are coming to

Speaker 2: about hidden fees. Verbo displays all mandatory fees in the

  Speaker 2: upfront price.
• 12:19
Speaker 3: So me, I went to San Diego State. I had
• 12:23
Speaker 3: no idea about sorority life or what it was, and
• 12:25
Speaker 3: from like a small town in Minnesota, like nobody there
• 12:28
Speaker 3: did a sorority Like, I had no idea. And then Christy,
• 12:33
Speaker 3: who was like my best friend from college, she called
• 12:35
Speaker 3: me and she was like, you need to sign up
• 12:38
Speaker 3: for recruitment and I was like, I'm not doing that.
• 12:40
Speaker 5: Why would I do that.
• 12:42
Speaker 3: She was like, I'll pay your recruitment fee and I
• 12:44
Speaker 3: was like, I really just don't want to do it.
• 12:46
Speaker 3: Christie like I don't understand what it is. Me and
• 12:48
Speaker 3: her had never met in person anyway.
• 12:51
Speaker 5: She convinced me to sign up.
• 12:52
Speaker 3: The night before you could, like sign up, So I
• 12:55
Speaker 3: read the last night you could. I signed up, and
• 12:57
Speaker 3: then I get to school and our parents drop us
• 13:01
Speaker 3: off they leave. It's like this whirlwind. She's like, what
• 13:04
Speaker 3: are you wearing? And I'm like, what do you mean?
• 13:06
Speaker 3: What you guys when I tell you like, I had
• 13:08
Speaker 3: no idea what this was about.
• 13:10
Speaker 5: I had no idea.
• 13:12
Speaker 3: And then we're picking out outfits and stuff. And coincidentally,
• 13:15
Speaker 3: my last names Kent. Her last name is Keller, and
• 13:20
Speaker 3: so we were in the same group and it was
• 13:23
Speaker 3: like twelve girls, and like San Diego State is like
• 13:25
Speaker 3: a huge school, so many girls go through rush and
• 13:28
Speaker 3: I go into the first house, I forget what it.
• 13:30
Speaker 5: Was and I leave and I was like, hell, no.
• 13:35
Speaker 3: This is bonkers, Like this is crazy. I just talked
• 13:39
Speaker 3: to all these girls. I felt like they were just
• 13:40
  Speaker 3: judging everything I sent. I'm like Christy, I'm like I'm
• 13:44
Speaker 3: not doing this, and she was like, can you please
• 13:46
Speaker 3: just tick it out today just so.
• 13:47
Speaker 5: I don't have to go alone? And I was like okay.
• 13:49
Speaker 3: And so then I remember I went into Akio and
• 13:53
Speaker 3: I was like, wait, that was kind of fun. And
• 13:55
Speaker 3: then she convinced me to like stay with the process,
• 13:57
Speaker 3: so I did. But it was a crazy experience and
• 14:01
  Speaker 3: I was like I felt.
• 14:01
Speaker 5: Like I was speed dating a bunch of people.
• 14:06
Speaker 2: So funny. Guess I look at you, Daisy, and I
• 14:08
Speaker 2: see every single girl that intimidated me in every single
• 14:11
Speaker 2: one of those houses in Texas like this, they.
• 14:13
  Speaker 1: Were all beautiful.
• 14:18
Speaker 3: And meanwhile, right, and then I remember like waiting in
• 14:21
Speaker 3: line to go into the sorority house and like looking
• 14:23
Speaker 3: around and every girl's like smiling like this, and like
• 14:26
Speaker 3: so many girls are wearing like all this designer stuff.
• 14:29
Speaker 5: I had nothing designer, and I was like, what is
• 14:32
  Speaker 5: going on?
• 14:33
Speaker 3: Like why am I here? And then walking in and
• 14:36
Speaker 3: having conversations. Eventually I just decided to go with it.
• 14:39
Speaker 3: And then I remember on pref day you picked at
• 14:43
Speaker 3: San Diego State, it was you could pref to two
• 14:45
Speaker 3: houses if they didn't drop you. So I prefed the
• 14:48
Speaker 3: two that I wanted.
• 14:50
Speaker 4: Was it preh rown?
• 14:54
Speaker 3: But so I had Alpha Fi and Akio and it
• 14:56
Speaker 3: was like Alpa Fi, Achio and Pi Fi were like
• 14:59
Speaker 3: the top houses at s Nego State at the time.
• 15:00
Speaker 3: I don't know, like what are now, but I hate
• 15:03
Speaker 3: when people are like, oh, top houses because like also
• 15:07
Speaker 3: a lot of my other friends were in other houses,
• 15:10
Speaker 3: and like I made like such good friends with girls
• 15:12
Speaker 3: and other houses too. So I'm just like I hate
• 15:15
Speaker 3: the whole like ranking system, I feel like it just
• 15:17
Speaker 3: gets more and more. But then anyway, I ended up
• 15:21
Speaker 3: doing Alpha Fee and I hated it. For semester, I
• 15:26
Speaker 3: hated it, And that was crazy to me too, because
• 15:29
Speaker 3: everyone was like, oh my gosh, I love a sorority,
• 15:31
Speaker 3: like it's so fun. But I think when you get
• 15:33
Speaker 3: into a sorority, no matter what, like not every girl's
• 15:37
Speaker 3: and there is going to be your best friend.
• 15:38
Speaker 5: And at the beginning, I was definitely.
• 15:40
Speaker 3: Like in the wrong group of girls, not saying that
• 15:42
Speaker 3: they're like bad girls or like at all, like we
• 15:45
Speaker 3: just didn't vibe, you know. And then I like found
• 15:48
Speaker 3: my group and ended up loving it. But I think,
• 15:51
Speaker 3: especially going away for college for a semester, it can
• 15:53
Speaker 3: be scary, like you don't know you're making new friends,
• 15:56
Speaker 3: and if you get in the wrong group, like it
• 15:58
Speaker 3: can make or break of anything. But now I have
• 16:01
Speaker 3: some of my best friends from my sorority still to
• 16:04
Speaker 3: this day, and it's so fun.
• 16:06
Speaker 2: You guys, well you're because back then my mother didn't
• 16:09
Speaker 2: even know what a sorority was, Like she went to
• 16:10
Speaker 2: secretarial school in Brooklyn. Yeah, so she didn't. But well,
• 16:14
Speaker 2: I don't know if your mom, I'm guessing, was not
• 16:16
Speaker 2: in a sorority either. Daisy was yours. No, my all.
• 16:20
Speaker 3: My grandma actually was no idea, but I didn't know
• 16:23
Speaker 3: until like after I joined a sorority, and then my
• 16:25
Speaker 3: grandpa was like, did you know your grandma was in one?
• 16:28
Speaker 3: And he was in a frat too, So then I
• 16:31
Speaker 3: was like, oh, no one told me about this.
• 16:33
Speaker 4: Ever, It's so funny, you know.
• 16:36
Speaker 1: I mean my mom graduated with her associate's degree. She
• 16:39
Speaker 1: wasn't allowed to go far for school, so she had
• 16:42
Speaker 1: no idea. I I signed myself up for college, like
• 16:47
Speaker 1: I did everything. I you know, she was there with
• 16:50
Speaker 1: me obviously learning and now she has the hang of
• 16:53
Speaker 1: it because she's on her third child in college. But
• 16:56
  Speaker 1: I was the first one. That's why I had a
• 17:00
Speaker 1: college advisor helping me, you know, step by step on
• 17:03
Speaker 1: how to even apply to schools. Like we had no
• 17:06
Speaker 1: idea what we were doing. And then when it came
• 17:09
Speaker 1: to sorority, she was like what is this? Like this
• 17:14
Speaker 1: is what what are you doing? I'm like, oh, in
• 17:16
Speaker 1: DTA having fun. I was like, want to come for
• 17:19
Speaker 1: parents weekend? She goes like yeah, okay, Like everything was
• 17:24
Speaker 1: just new, very new.
• 17:26
Speaker 2: You guys know that now, Like I've heard that the
• 17:28
Speaker 2: mothers they have to go for this whole experience, like
• 17:32
Speaker 2: they'd wait in hotel rooms to either like to pump
• 17:36
Speaker 2: their daughters up or console them or it. Yeah, can
• 17:39
Speaker 2: be So do you guys have you heard of that?
• 17:41
Speaker 2: As have you heard of anybody there?
• 17:44
  Speaker 3: I've heard of that, but I don't think it's San
• 17:46
Speaker 3: Diego State it really happens. But or when I was
• 17:49
Speaker 3: there at least or I didn't even know because I
• 17:50
Speaker 3: didn't even know what it was. But I remember girls
• 17:53
Speaker 3: like sitting on the curb, like bawling their head off
• 17:56
Speaker 3: when they got like dropped from a house, and I
• 17:57
Speaker 3: was like, this is like And I remember like a
• 18:01
Speaker 3: girl on my floor thinking her like life was over
• 18:04
Speaker 3: because she didn't get in one of the houses she wanted,
• 18:07
Speaker 3: and I like didn't understand it completely.
• 18:10
Speaker 2: Well, you're in an advantage for sure.
• 18:12
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 18:13
Speaker 1: I feel like probably down south it's a lot more intense.
• 18:17
Speaker 4: So you probably experienced it at Texas.
• 18:19
  Speaker 2: I did.
• 18:19
Speaker 1: But I feel like when I hear especially on TikTok,
• 18:22
Speaker 1: because when Bama Rush happens, it's all over TikTok.
• 18:26
Speaker 4: It circulates the internet. It's actually crazy.
• 18:30
Speaker 1: And there's a couple girls who are now viral from
• 18:35
Speaker 1: Bama Rush and now they have s they.
• 18:37
Speaker 4: Have a huge following.
• 18:39
Speaker 1: Therewith brands now like they're full blown influencers just from
• 18:43
Speaker 1: starting this whole, you know, starting their TikTok channel based
• 18:47
Speaker 1: on Bama Rush. But then looking at the Bama houses,
• 18:52
Speaker 1: their sorority houses are inchin mansions, granic, granite countertop, like
• 18:59
  Speaker 1: they're like staircases.
• 19:01
  Speaker 4: I mean, they're nicer than people's average home. Yeah, it's,
• 19:05
Speaker 4: oh for sure, insane.
• 19:06
Speaker 1: Yeah, So I think if I would have done something
• 19:09
Speaker 1: like Bama Rush, completely.
• 19:11
Speaker 4: Different experience and way more in tons.
• 19:13
Speaker 2: So also, I think the difference between old lady Jennifer
• 19:17
Speaker 2: and young people beautiful Daisy Angia is that I didn't
• 19:21
Speaker 2: have social media. I know that's hard for you to
• 19:23
Speaker 2: picture period, but picture me not having it, and I
• 19:27
Speaker 2: think probably we were a little bit better off because
• 19:29
Speaker 2: I hear now these stories of how you have to
• 19:33
Speaker 2: scrub your social media, yes, and then you have to
• 19:36
Speaker 2: make sure that when it's looked at, you look like
• 19:39
Speaker 2: nobody has ever had as much fun as you have
• 19:42
  Speaker 2: in their lifetimes.
• 19:43
Speaker 3: And it's crazy too, because when you're going into recruitment,
• 19:46
Speaker 3: like being on the other side of recruitment, Like you're
• 19:49
Speaker 3: looking at girls before they even come into the house,
• 19:52
Speaker 3: Like you're looking at their instagrams, You're looking at everything
• 19:56
Speaker 3: you can find online about them before they come in.
• 19:59
Speaker 4: You're doing a any background check.
• 20:01
Speaker 5: And I remember when we were doing that. I was like, wait,
• 20:04
  Speaker 5: it's so amazing.
• 20:04
Speaker 4: We all were looking.
• 20:06
Speaker 3: Like through all my stuff before I even like they
• 20:08
  Speaker 3: were like.
• 20:09
Speaker 5: Yeah, we already knew like a lot about you. Well,
• 20:11
  Speaker 5: which is great.
• 20:12
Speaker 4: They basically have their top pick things.
• 20:14
Speaker 1: Yeah, so each shore already has like a list of
• 20:17
Speaker 1: their top picks from looking at the potential.
• 20:21
Speaker 4: Like the potential members coming in.
• 20:24
Speaker 2: And let's see, like what do you think that they are?
• 20:26
Speaker 2: What what constitutes she's my top pick? And I again,
• 20:30
Speaker 2: it's like so much of this for me as somebody
• 20:33
Speaker 2: who is now a mother is just horrifying. And I
• 20:38
Speaker 2: know though that Soborty life has been a highlight for
• 20:40
Speaker 2: so many It was for young women, for older women,
• 20:44
Speaker 2: they love it. But looking at it from a different
• 20:46
Speaker 2: a bit of a different perspective, now I'm wondering, like,
• 20:50
Speaker 2: when the sisters looked at your social media, what were
• 20:52
Speaker 2: they looking for? I have, I could guess, but what
• 20:55
  Speaker 2: do you think?
• 20:56
Speaker 4: I think your first thing right away is your looks.
• 20:59
Speaker 5: You're emma, yeah, and.
• 21:01
Speaker 3: I think also like looking at what you're involved in
• 21:04
Speaker 3: and what you like post about too.
• 21:06
Speaker 2: You think there are there sororities that are looking for
• 21:10
Speaker 2: they really want women or girls from the debate team.
• 21:13
Speaker 2: Are there any of those that exist, or girls that
• 21:16
Speaker 2: have done a lot of charity work or I.
• 21:19
Speaker 3: Think for sure, because you kind of have you fill out,
• 21:22
  Speaker 3: I think so.
• 21:23
Speaker 1: But I think it also, you know, there's just so
• 21:27
Speaker 1: much that goes into it. Okay, yes, you could be
• 21:29
Speaker 1: such a well rounded person in high school and you
• 21:33
Speaker 1: were on the debate team and you did Decca and
• 21:36
Speaker 1: all these things that you did in high school that
• 21:37
Speaker 1: were so amazing. But if you don't fit that criteria
• 21:41
Speaker 1: of this certain sorority, then they'll place you somewhere else.
• 21:45
  Speaker 1: Or it's it's like a whole it's a whole ranking
• 21:47
Speaker 1: system basically, right, which is terrible.
• 21:51
Speaker 2: It is crazy imagine getting ranked women girls getting ranked.
• 21:55
Speaker 3: I know, and I remember, like I was always thinking,
• 21:58
Speaker 3: because you had like these little like rush sheet. So
• 22:00
Speaker 3: a girl comes in and then they would leave, and
• 22:03
Speaker 3: you would like rank somebody, and I would always get
• 22:05
Speaker 3: sick to my stomach because I was like, this is
• 22:08
Speaker 3: like horrible, and I hated doing it. And then I
• 22:11
Speaker 3: was like, I wonder what my rush guard said, you
• 22:14
Speaker 3: know what I mean? And you started thinking things and
• 22:16
Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, these girls are in my sorority and
• 22:18
Speaker 3: they were all ranking me. But I did have the
• 22:20
Speaker 3: time of my life after that first semester, and I
• 22:22
Speaker 3: loved it and I'm so grateful for it. But I
• 22:24
Speaker 3: also think it's like important too. You don't have to
• 22:27
Speaker 3: be in a sorority, you know. I love college and
• 22:29
Speaker 3: have a great time.
• 22:30
Speaker 4: I think I definitely could have done without.
• 22:32
Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I have a ton of friends that were
• 22:33
  Speaker 5: in a sorority.
• 22:34
Speaker 2: So interesting. Yeah, my daughter who is GA's age, just so,
• 22:51
Speaker 2: I think a year younger. Then Ujia went through it
• 22:54
Speaker 2: also at Delaware, so different than going through it in
• 22:58
Speaker 2: California or the South. Maybe a little more alert Wruckers.
• 23:00
Speaker 2: But she did it during COVID yeah, and the waiting,
• 23:06
Speaker 2: and I was sick for her, probably more sick than
• 23:09
Speaker 2: she was waiting to get, you know, to push the
• 23:12
Speaker 2: button on the computer and see if what you're you know,
• 23:15
Speaker 2: who was preffing you and if it.
• 23:18
Speaker 1: Was a mass zoom breakout room, oh my god, yes,
• 23:21
  Speaker 1: it's ridiculous.
• 23:23
Speaker 2: And then I remember she well, I had very serious
• 23:25
Speaker 2: ideas of which sorority she should be in, and she
• 23:27
Speaker 2: had different ideas, and it was all about for her.
• 23:31
Speaker 2: She also wanted to be in a top tier sorority,
• 23:34
Speaker 2: and I wanted her to be in the sorority with
• 23:36
Speaker 2: the nice girls. And it did matter. Ultimately, it was
• 23:39
Speaker 2: her decision and she had a good experience. But there's
• 23:42
Speaker 2: a whole other layer to this as a mother that
• 23:44
Speaker 2: I won't bore you guys with today, but it is.
• 23:47
Speaker 2: It could be really just the anxiety of the whole thing,
• 23:52
Speaker 2: Like you know, yeah, made up my medication, I think
• 23:55
Speaker 2: during that time a little bit.
• 23:57
Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it was definitely my Actually my nail tech.
• 24:00
Speaker 1: It was her daughter was at Rutgers, goes to Rutgers,
• 24:04
Speaker 1: and she was going through the recruiting process and she
• 24:08
Speaker 1: was like venting to me, how our daughter didn't get
• 24:10
Speaker 1: called back to any sorority at Rutgers. And you know,
• 24:13
Speaker 1: when you're in that I'm sitting there getting my nails done.
• 24:16
Speaker 1: She's like so upset that her daughter didn't get called
• 24:19
Speaker 1: back to any because she knew I went to Rutgers,
• 24:22
Speaker 1: I was in Zata, and I felt terrible.
• 24:24
Speaker 4: I was like, what do you what do you say?
• 24:26
Speaker 4: You know it was and now her.
• 24:28
Speaker 1: Daughter's studying abroad and she's hoping that her daughter has
• 24:30
Speaker 1: such a better experience studying abroad, and I was like,
• 24:33
Speaker 1: I hope so, and I felt I just felt so
• 24:36
Speaker 1: terrible because not getting called back to any is probably
• 24:40
Speaker 1: the worst feeling that nobody, nobody wants you, you know,
• 24:42
Speaker 1: like you're not accepted by anybody. And that's where I
• 24:46
Speaker 1: think like the wine needs to be drawn at some point,
• 24:49
Speaker 1: because that could just send the girls into such a spiral.
• 24:52
Speaker 5: I feel, oh, it definitely does.
• 24:54
Speaker 2: Absolutely. I remember walking into maybe my first house. I
• 24:59
Speaker 2: walked into Texas, and I was a big girl. Why
• 25:03
Speaker 2: at that time, like a buck eighty or something was big,
• 25:07
Speaker 2: not whatever anyway, but the point is that it felt
• 25:09
Speaker 2: to me like every single girl there was thin, fit, beautiful.
• 25:16
Speaker 2: Forgive me, Daisy, they all look like you. They just
• 25:19
Speaker 2: did end well and GA two, but they were all blonde,
• 25:22
Speaker 2: blue eyes, and I just I just remember feeling that
• 25:27
Speaker 2: just less than like I can never aspiring to be
• 25:32
Speaker 2: with these beautiful barbies knowing, but I also knew that
• 25:36
Speaker 2: I was probably going to go into this Jewish sorority anyway,
• 25:38
Speaker 2: so I kind of had that, which was helpful, but
• 25:41
Speaker 2: the pressure of that when you're just starting college, right, yeah,
• 25:47
Speaker 2: you want to make the right decision.
• 25:48
Speaker 3: Yeah, And I feel like a lot of people there
• 25:50
Speaker 3: like leaving high school to kind of get out of
• 25:52
Speaker 3: those clicks a little bit. And then I think you
• 25:54
Speaker 3: get to recruitment and you're going through it and you're like, wait,
• 25:57
Speaker 3: is this a click too? Depends where you go for sure,
• 25:59
Speaker 3: because I have a friend that I'm really close with
• 26:01
Speaker 3: and she went to Ole.
• 26:02
Speaker 2: Miss and like, oh that's her right, yeah, and her
• 26:05
  Speaker 2: like only.
• 26:06
Speaker 3: Friends are the ones that were in her sorority and
• 26:08
Speaker 3: and like were you friends with like any other girls
• 26:10
Speaker 3: and other sororities And she's like no, like once you
• 26:13
Speaker 3: got into your sorority, like those were your girls and
• 26:15
Speaker 3: like there our best friends were like in her wedding
• 26:17
  Speaker 3: and everything.
• 26:19
Speaker 5: But I think it depends where you go to and
• 26:21
Speaker 5: like what the Greek life is, right right?
• 26:24
  Speaker 2: Yeah?
• 26:24
Speaker 1: No, I mean at Rutgers, you were friends with girls
• 26:28
Speaker 1: in different sororities. Yeah, And I think that was also
• 26:31
Speaker 1: another thing, if you were a girl, like if you
• 26:34
Speaker 1: had boobs and a vagina, you could get into any
• 26:37
Speaker 1: frat party. Yeah, so I that is what I was saying,
• 26:41
Speaker 1: in the sense of I probably didn't need to be
• 26:44
Speaker 1: in a sorority at Rutgers, and a lot of girls
• 26:47
  Speaker 1: feel that way.
• 26:49
Speaker 4: A lot of girls too. At Rutgers.
• 26:51
Speaker 1: They rushed, they found their friends, and then they dropped
• 26:56
Speaker 1: because they were like, Okay, I have all my friends.
• 27:00
Speaker 1: I'm going out the same way that I would be
• 27:03
Speaker 1: going out if I was in a sorority. The only
• 27:06
Speaker 1: thing that gets a little more clickie is I guess mixers. Yeah,
• 27:12
Speaker 1: so okay, Zeta is mixing with Pike tonight, So that's
• 27:15
Speaker 1: a closed mixer until ten thirty.
• 27:17
Speaker 4: Then the party opens.
• 27:18
Speaker 1: At eleven, so now everybody else can come in. That
• 27:22
Speaker 1: was the fun part because then you got closer with
• 27:24
Speaker 1: the frack like they.
• 27:26
  Speaker 4: For the fraternities.
• 27:27
Speaker 5: That was what was fun.
• 27:29
Speaker 4: But a lot of my.
• 27:30
Speaker 1: Friends dropped because they felt like they didn't need it,
• 27:34
Speaker 1: and what's the point of paying this two three thousand
• 27:38
  Speaker 1: dollars a semester if I don't.
• 27:41
Speaker 4: Need to be in this sorority. If it's not really
• 27:45
  Speaker 4: benefiting me.
• 27:45
Speaker 2: Which is the other thing we should talk about, which
• 27:47
Speaker 2: is the money of it.
• 27:48
Speaker 5: The money, like how about expensive how.
• 27:50
Speaker 2: About those girls that just don't have the money for it?
• 27:53
Speaker 4: Well, especially at BAMA.
• 27:54
Speaker 1: I know, I know when I told my friend because
• 27:57
Speaker 1: my friend went to the University of Alabama, I.
• 27:59
Speaker 4: Told her I think my I think I paid like.
• 28:04
Speaker 1: Maybe twenty five hundred, close to three thousand probably a
• 28:07
Speaker 1: semester to be in ZTA. My friend faith I went
• 28:12
Speaker 1: to BAMA and she was in one of the top
• 28:14
Speaker 1: tier ones. It was like I want to say, like
• 28:17
Speaker 1: probably close to six thousand a semester.
• 28:20
  Speaker 5: Crazy.
• 28:21
Speaker 2: His parents were not only saving for college, they're saving
• 28:24
Speaker 2: for Rush. They're saving for like which is crazy, which
• 28:28
Speaker 2: is so crazy. I remember like with the boys, so
• 28:33
Speaker 2: they went the frats when there were three Jewish frats
• 28:36
Speaker 2: also at UT and so you got your bid and
• 28:40
Speaker 2: you went to the house and then the boys, all
• 28:43
Speaker 2: the boys got to pick which house to go to
• 28:45
Speaker 2: to ask the girls to the first mixer, like we
• 28:49
Speaker 2: were like yeah, we were like cattle. And then all
• 28:52
Speaker 2: the frapes o god, I mean literally like they showed
• 28:56
Speaker 2: up and a lot of them showed up to a
• 28:59
Speaker 2: five because again that was where the pretty girls were,
• 29:03
Speaker 2: and I didn't get asked to go to the mixer.
• 29:06
Speaker 2: So the greatest day of me getting into eighty five
• 29:08
Speaker 2: was like, you should have chosen the nice girls sorority.
• 29:12
Speaker 2: That's where the nice boys went. Well, I mean it
• 29:14
Speaker 2: sounds now looking back at it, it's just so so sad,
• 29:17
Speaker 2: But like, I don't know how the boys damper on
• 29:20
  Speaker 2: your BID day.
• 29:21
Speaker 1: I know, I have to say bid day was probably
• 29:28
Speaker 1: like one of the best days. Really, we yes because
• 29:32
Speaker 1: we ran home, We ran home and I ran home
• 29:35
  Speaker 1: to CTA.
• 29:36
Speaker 4: It was so fun.
• 29:38
Speaker 1: I mean, the older girls were sneaking me drinks even
• 29:40
Speaker 1: though they weren't supposed to. We were having so much
• 29:43
Speaker 1: fun and just dancing, and then we went out after
• 29:47
Speaker 1: and those are the times where I was like, Okay,
• 29:50
Speaker 1: this was worth it joining us sorority, these times in
• 29:53
Speaker 1: these memories and getting a little and.
• 29:56
Speaker 4: The big little process and all so fun. All those little.
• 30:00
Speaker 1: Events like that where you genuinely were with your sorority
• 30:04
Speaker 1: sisters and yet consumed by like other things.
• 30:08
Speaker 4: That's the stuff that was super fun.
• 30:09
Speaker 2: And there is I think so much. There's so many positives, right,
• 30:13
Speaker 2: like going to school, especially when's it's big, and having
• 30:17
Speaker 2: this group of sisters and having it fat, having that
• 30:20
Speaker 2: happen fast, and then all of these events and all
• 30:24
Speaker 2: of these mixers and matches and like immediately you have
• 30:28
Speaker 2: this immediate social life and I guess you also write.
• 30:31
Speaker 3: And it's so much like closer with people. I feel
• 30:34
Speaker 3: like too in ways, like you become a little like
• 30:36
  Speaker 3: a family.
• 30:37
Speaker 4: Yeah, I know you do.
• 30:38
Speaker 2: Any pledging process going through.
• 30:40
Speaker 4: That, that's crazy. We definitely have to talk about that.
• 30:43
Speaker 1: But that also, you know, it's true, especially going to
• 30:47
Speaker 1: a bigger school, it does give you that sense of
• 30:51
Speaker 1: it kind of makes the how the school, how do
• 30:55
Speaker 1: I say this, It makes this.
• 30:57
Speaker 4: This huge school feel a little smaller.
• 31:00
Speaker 1: So I mean, I have to say Rutgers is massive.
• 31:05
Speaker 1: I think I knew every single person in Greek life.
• 31:07
Speaker 1: The school felt so small. I saw the same people
• 31:10
Speaker 1: every time I went out, every time I went to
• 31:12
Speaker 1: the bars, same faces, And Rutgers is huge. I should
• 31:16
Speaker 1: have been seeing a different face every time I went out,
• 31:19
  Speaker 1: same people.
• 31:20
  Speaker 4: H Yeah, I think that's why I got a little
• 31:22
  Speaker 4: old too.
• 31:23
