[rock music] Get on your bikes and ride! [rock music] All right, everybody.
0:19
There's that catchy theme song. Yeah. It's Full Spectrum Cycling podcasting goodness. This is show number 299. 299. All right. Yeah. So close- Yeah... to our bigiversary. Yeah. So, you know?
0:33
Which this is the nine-year anniversary of the 100 bigiversary. Oh, we did a big thing for the Weekly Dose of Fat- Oh, I remember... 100th- I remember... 100th show party at... Boy, that was a good one.
0:45
That was a, that was a party. Next time- The cops showed up a lot... twice. Who didn't, who didn't- At least twice. [laughs] Yeah, who didn't get almost arrested? A lot of people. [laughs] A lot of people. It's like...
0:52
[laughs] I bailed just in time. I- Well, no, I was... We were, we were in the back of the building, so it would take, I don't know- Yeah, Lloyd-... 100, 100 people to notice us... Lloyd was out there.
1:00
There was a lot of people there. Lloyd was out front loitering and keeping- Yeah... everything cool. Yeah, yeah. Sure. All right, everybody, so- Kevin Spinner. Yeah, I remember that.
1:08
Here, here in the studio today, we have, uh, we have, uh, JK, fresh off the, uh, first place par, part, first place award in the partial beard competition at the Uptown or Beard Competition. Nice. Thank you.
1:20
Uh, if you wanna see the actual winning, uh, style, we will have a photo in the show notes. Nice, nice. And we got Tony Berger over there. This was parsing it down to make it a, a workplace friendly ish. Got it.
1:32
[laughs] And, uh, Brett is joining us today. Brett is, uh, multi-talented. Uh, he, he's a, a bit of courier. He rides a bike. He, he puts on cycling events. He works at a... What, what, what is the- It's a gift shop...
1:47
I know it's called, I know it's called Sense. Is, yeah. It's a gift shop. Is that what it is, a gift shop? Uh- It's my favorite gift shop. I mean, I don't know what you call them now.
1:52
It's not really a head shop per se, or is it? Eh, I kind of prefer the term head shop. Dispensary? Well- I like dis- I like head shop. Yeah, head shop. I, it, it is- It's definitely a head shop.
2:01
Yeah, a little bit of everything in there. Rolling paper emporium. There we go. That's how I use it for primarily rolling... It, if you, if you keep tops and top, I, yeah, yes. Hell yeah. Dude, we got you covered, man.
2:11
Yes, I always need tops. Yes. I need to know my hidey-holes are- I'm a Dapper Dan man. Dapper Dan. [laughs] The one little fop.
2:18
Well, I remember, uh, the last time Brett was on the show, he explained the, uh, the THC- A... A versus whatever else. Mm-hmm. Uh, what's, uh, what's the current thing? I heard you talking about some stuff. Poppers.
2:29
What's a popper? Tell me about a popper. I mean, there's a, there's all these things you can get over there now.
2:33
[laughs] Well, I can't advocate poppers for human consumption, but they are a fantastic cassette tape head cleaner, or a, a general solvent of sorts. Is that right? Um, however, there's a couple of ways to use them.
2:48
[laughs] I, I still have a cassette deck somewhere that may need cleaning. Mm-hmm. And if I were to clean my- In your chest?
2:55
If I were to clean my cassette deck, would it be like I'm building a model in the olden days with my plastic model glue? It's, yeah, with the windows closed and the whole nine, yeah. Oh, yeah. Oh, I, I guess. Okay.
3:05
It's shades of gray there. [laughs] Wow, okay. Yeah. Uh- No, it's, it's a silly little place. We got all sorts of shit.
3:14
I've Googled us a couple of times, and each, like, map or, like, online service has a, a different description of the store. [laughs] Uh, and it's pretty good. I like the air of mystery about it. [laughs] Sure.
3:23
Not sure what to call it. Yeah. Uh, it, there are, there are glass things that could be used for smoking whatever- Tobacco... tobacco and/or- Mm-hmm... whatever else you want from the- Love tobacco.
3:33
Any federally compliant hemp product. That's- There you go. That- Like THCA. Mm-hmm. Federally compliant. Mm-hmm. Oh, yeah. Uh, what- I'm s- I'm sitting on a body pillow of, uh, THC flower.
3:45
Like, I, yeah, it's something that- I'm still-... I ha- I haven't quite figured out yet. Well- Well- We should make some bread out of that or something... inside the chair? Maybe bread. Okay. Inside the pillow?
3:54
What is... No, it's, I mean, the size. No, he's got a big... We've talked about this in the past. Yeah. He's got a huge, like, five pound bag of hemp flower. Yeah. Okay. Oh. Yeah, there's heaps of it around.
4:05
Make cookies. Yeah. Yeah. Wow. Okay, so- I mean, it, it's just, it's kind of regular flour... just calming. Well, back in the- Yeah, I guess. I don't know...
4:11
back in the very olden days, high school times, we used to pull some hemp stuffing out of chairs and attempt to smoke that stuff. [laughs] I don't know.
4:17
The, the wife wants to just get rid of it, but I'm like, "N- th- there's just that much of it." I'll take it. Yeah, it seems like a shame. I don't want to do something with it.
4:22
Did you just get it out of an Indiana ditch somewhere? Yeah. Or... No, that was the ex-husband. Oh, right on. [laughs] That was one of the million-dollar ideas that he- Wait, how old is this? Oh, it's old. Oh.
4:33
Oh, you gotta get rid of that. Oh, yeah. You could grow that shit out. At a certain point, the, the chemicals in there start to flip- Yeah... and the whole thing changes. Yeah. Use it in the garden or something. Yeah.
4:41
All right, then. Okay. Go, uh, g- Gardening with THC. I'm learning things. Or, or maybe- This is good... maybe sell it on eBay. Well, the one idea, and [laughs] I was like, "Oh, yeah, make some tea out of it."
4:52
And I'm just like, "No." No. No. Because, no. I mean, I go directly to, "No, that would be just like drinking hot bong water." [laughs] You know? I mean, that's all I could imagine it tasting like.
5:03
[laughs] That sounds so terrible. And it doesn't, it's not appealing in the least bit, as I've drank- Yeah. The, the water. I've drank it tepid.
5:10
[laughs] I, I drank it tepid once in high school, and I don't even wanna deal with it. So, it w- No way... it was not my intention to start off the show just talking about recreational use of, uh, fun things.
5:21
But here we are. Yeah, here we are. But here we are. Yeah. Here we are. Here we are. Um, so, uh, Brett and Hunter, who is, uh, doing his RN thing in the, uh, or whatever, nurse thing in the, uh, emergency room at St.
5:33
Mary's right now, and is not here on the show, is partners in crime with Brett on an event that's coming up April 18th and 19th. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
5:42
Uh, Friday night, The Green Mile, and Saturday, the Milwaukee Messenger Invitational. Yeah. Um, so hip us into The Green Mile thing a little bit. I know we all... Did we all, did we all did that last year?
5:55
We all- Uh, volunteered... volunteered last year for that? Yeah. I did a portion. [laughs] And, uh, it's, it's a little bit different this year because it's- The night immediately preceding MMI, so- Correct...
6:05
um- We're kinda taking a knee to MMI. Um, you know, makes sense to me. Like, the MMI truthfully was the inspiration for The Green Mile in the first place, and hell, I'd like to think it went so well that- [laughs]...
6:17
we got the real deal back. Nice. I like that. So, uh- Yeah. Yeah And, yeah. And so- It did go quite well too- It did... I think. Yeah. And the MMI hasn't actually happened since 2018, '19? I wanna say, yeah.
6:29
Somewhere in there- Yeah, it's been-... because obviously we had a, we had a pandemic there for a little while, uh- Mm-hmm... sort of not making it, uh, too cool to get a bunch of people together, but, uh, I- Oh...
6:39
I'm, I'm glad to see it rebooted because it's an awesome event, and, uh- Mm-hmm... it celebrates the messenger lifestyle, and- Mm-hmm... I think the planning has gone well so far. It sounds- Yeah...
6:49
like a great weekend of cycling. Yes. Yeah. You know? Just cycle-centric fun. Yeah. Cycle-centric. You know, we're, we're making a play for the out-of-towners this year, so like- Cycle-centric psilocybin.
7:01
[laughs] On Sunday. Well, you know. [laughs] Sunday. For that s- for Sunday because that's when the Lord has risen. [laughs] There it is. And then we must psilocybin with it. [laughs] So [laughs] oh my God.
7:12
Well, you know, there is an interpretation of Christianity that does- Yep, absolutely... allege- There is... that that's a whole part of it There totally is, yep. [laughs] I just ran across that. [laughs] Just, uh, yes.
7:22
Yeah. [laughs] Mana from heaven. I believe, yes. What would they be thinking now if you, if [laughs] as a- It doesn't stand... heavily guilted r- [laughs]... recovering Catholic- Oh, just- Oh, geez... that just, ugh...
7:35
just embrace it. So true. I know, I'm a- 1819. High, high XI, baby... I know, I'm an altar boy. Me too...
7:42
mentioned because, uh, Derek and the guys over in Osage, Iowa sent me a thing to say, "Can you mention the Mayday Mayhem?" Is there a Mayday Mayhem?
7:51
So I'm mentioning the Mayday Mayhem, which will, this week, th- this week, this year, will be on May 3rd, Saturday.
7:57
And Osage has really picked up the, the, they really got going with making trails for mountain biking and fun stuff, not real hard, awesome for events like the Mayday Mayhem, where it's a clunker-centric- Oh, nice...
8:14
ride/ it's not really, I get...
8:16
So what happens is you meet at Limestone Brewery in Osage and ride out to the trails, which is, I don't know, a mile and a half, two miles, couple, you get your, you know, get your heart rate up there. You get all- Yeah.
8:26
Yeah. And then you r- Get all riled up...
8:26
and then, and then you ride on the trails for a while, kind of as a group, and you end up at, uh, a specific area where there's a l- a loop that the people that actually wanna race can do laps around. Ah.
8:38
And it's fun because they come by about every, I don't know, 15 minutes maybe, and after they string out, there's almost always someone coming by, getting beer hand ups and- [laughs]...
8:47
and, you know, just having a general good time. Sounds pretty cool. Then camping Saturday night and, uh, so yeah, Mayday Mayhem, May 3rd, Osage, Iowa.
8:55
Uh, if, if you, if you know Iowa at all, uh, this is the very top of the state almost, not quite to the Minnesota border. Decorah's over here. Osage is there.
9:05
Mason City's over there, and they're making a pretty concerted effort to get people to upper south, uh, uh, northeast Iowa, the upper quadrant, to do mountain biking and stuff, and, like, make- Oh...
9:19
make, like, a f- couple day trip, go to Decorah, go to Osage, go to Mason City. That's a great idea. Yeah. And, and there's good r- Sounds like marketing...
9:25
yes, there's good riding in all those areas, so if you happen to be in, uh, if y- I'm gonna go over there. Sounds like- I don't know why.
9:31
I mean, if you're, if you're East or West Coast, could be a destination wee- you know, week of mountain biking. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. I mean, you could- Yeah...
9:38
you could go down to Bentonville and ride the lift to the top of the hill- Sure... if you wanted to. Thank you, Walmart. But you could also go to northeast Iowa and have a lot of fun with- Cool people...
9:46
people that really like to, to drink beer and [laughs] ride bikes pretty much. [laughs] I like those people. It's- Those are my kind of people... basically what's happening. Mm-hmm. Good folks. Yeah, they are good folks.
9:55
Good folks. They tend to be good folks. Uh, Milwaukee mentioned Night Owl's open. I don't know if you guys knew that. Yes. I did know that. Mm-hmm. I did know that.
10:02
[laughs] I saw, uh, as a matter of fact, Dave and- Swung twice and missed... Dana were over at the house with, uh, their new puppy. Nice. Yeah. He's, yeah, but yeah, he posted a picture of Night Owl.
10:13
So I got the ho- We're not gonna talk about his puppy- Yeah. Yeah... 'cause it's, it'll take me, like, an hour and a half to describe how cute this dog is. [laughs] So I got the holy grail of going- It's a nice dog...
10:21
the holy grail of going to Night Owl. On my way back from Kalamazoo, which is, like, four hours there, four hours back, so I left at 5:00 in the morning. Wow. I'm coming by on, on, uh, 94 headed back to Milwaukee.
10:31
I'm like, "You know what's on the way home? It's Night Owl." So I get off on the, uh, Layton there, go over by Night Owl, get up to the window. Chris is there. I was like, "Hey, how's it going?"
10:40
And, uh, ordered a burger, and as soon as I ordered my burger, out came the "We're closed, we're out of burgers," and the food was gone. The last burger. It's like it's never happened before.
10:50
It's like the holy grail of going to Night Owl- Was it the first?... is to get the last burger. That's, that's as cool- [laughs] Was it an opening day? No, I went there on Wednesday? Oh, Wednesday.
10:59
Wednesday or Thursday. It was, they opened on a- The second day... Tuesday, I believe. [laughs] Second or third day. Oh. That's as good as getting the first or second burger at Camino on the $5 burger day.
11:10
Oh, those are good too. When the guy is really written, you know, he's just, like, ready to go and make stuff and yeah, 'cause that,
11:18
that guy, he got a big tip from me 'cause that was a really fantastic burger the last time me and Amber there. It was like- Oh... whoa. Yeah.
11:24
That was a good day because they had, whatever beer they had, they haven't had again. Yeah, that was pretty- Bridget was recommending whatever it was. I think it was a Three Sheets. That fancy IPA, yep. It was very good.
11:34
Mm-hmm. Um- Mm-hmm. They have good beer too. They always have, uh, Zombie Dust or something- Yeah... that you might wanna drink. Uh- Stone Cold Steve Austin's Stone Cold Lager.
11:43
[laughs] Did you, who went to, uh, Ro- who went to Rockabilly Chili? [sighs] I did. Oh, man. My niece's car broke down. I had to work on it. So Red Maple did not win this year. Nope. They were only the runner-up- Yeah...
11:56
for best meat, and I beg to differ that that Kettle Range meat was- I didn't try theirs. I did because it was, like, they're g- They're a...
12:04
So I talked to Jeff Redmond And he's like, "These are the ones I like, so you should go check that out." And I'd be like... That was, they were good.
12:11
And there were a couple that were pretty close, and I was like- Salas was pretty good... I'm, I'm still voting- All right... for Red Maple, but they did win best table presentation. Yeah. Which is important.
12:21
So, you know, it's not what you know, it's who you know sometimes. I did a- And I was at Bakehouse 23 on Saturday, the day before the rockabilly chili,
12:32
getting some Godzilla chili, 'cause fucking awesome, and I said to Sarah, I'm like, "Hey, I'll see you guys tomorrow. I'm really excited." And then my niece has car problems. So sad. So on Tuesday, I messaged Sarah.
12:47
I'm like, "I'm really sorry, couldn't make it. Just so you know though, I threw the Godzilla chili on top of rice, and it's even better." And Sarah being Sarah, a woman I love dearly,
13:03
who shares a birthday with my son Daniel, says, "Hey, I gotta make a delivery to Wonder Boy." It is the secret of your power. And she drops me off the rockabilly chili chili at our house.
13:20
It was a little on the spicy side. Spam, spam and chorizo. Spam and chorizo. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was so good. [laughs] It was good. It was really good. I, I'll give you that. They were, that was...
13:29
[laughs] So that's how, you know, like who you know. That made me happy. Actually, just seeing those words together. Yep. H- hang- Spam and chorizo and chili.
13:36
I'm just like- [laughs] It's like, um, there's- I'm like, you're, you're, you're gonna get a vote somewhere- Yeah, yeah... in, in, in anywhere. Did you do the one that had the shredded hot dog in it? No.
13:44
It's basically what they u- Oh, that sounds good too. It's basically the chili- Yeah, okay... it's the chili they use on their chili dog, but with the dog already shredded into the chili. That's genius. Okay. I get it.
13:54
That is absolute genius. Yeah, 'cause I- I love that... I make a skyline, like a Cincinnati, uh- Yeah... kind of chili- Nice and saucy Serve that in a bun. Mm-hmm. I can see that happening. Maybe, but there was no bread.
14:05
'Cause it is really thin. There is no bread for you today. I make it really thin. I know. Only death. Yeah. I mean, man, I, uh, I used to work at a gourmet chili restaurant.
14:12
It was a short-lived gourmet chili restaurant, uh, in Milwaukee's Third Ward once upon a time. Mm. Uh, it's, uh- What was the name? Chili Lily's. Uh- Ah, I do remember that... yeah. Yep. Yes.
14:24
On the nominee in Jackson right there. Okay. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Current location of Camp Bar. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah, uh, man, I remember making the Cincinnati chili- Shit, yeah...
14:30
and like, you'd have to kneed all the meat in cold water. Yep, yeah, yeah. Oh. To break it up. Yeah, not fun. So... No, no. No. You, the potato masher. Put a little cinnamon in there. Isn't there cinnamon in there?
14:39
Yeah, a little cinnamon, a little chocolate. Little cinnamon. Little chocolate in there. Yeah. Nope, didn't use chocolate. Ah. I don't use chocolate. Okay. You know what? The, no, uh, active dry yeast. Well.
14:50
Oh, that'll do it. Okay. But hey. It gives you that umami. [laughs] Is that, you gotta throw that on noodles? If you wanna. Well, I, I wanna. It's one way, two way, three way or- Noodles do not belong in my chili...
15:01
noodles, rice, I'll do either way. Mm, okay. Yeah. A little bit of cornbread under the chili. Oh, I love some cornbread. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. When I was a little baby- Well-... nothing...
15:09
hey, since we're talking chili, I'll tease at one little thing about the event. I am gonna be making a few gallons of chili for the, uh, after party on Friday night. So- Well, there you go.
15:18
We brought it all back together. Yeah. Yeah. With your, uh, you know, ticket price, you get a free dinner and a bunch of other fun stuff. Mm. All right.
15:26
So just to kind of put a little timeline on the evening, it's, the event is starting at Amorphic- Mm-hmm... the brewery next to the shop here. Uh, six o'clock meet up, whatever. Get- Frat me and Nash...
15:39
6:00 to 7:00 is registration- Mm-hmm... and get your shit together, and, uh, uh, the actual eventing starts at 7:00. Correct. Correct. We're gonna run the event 7:00 to 9:00.
15:48
We'll have you bouncing around between parties and bars and other amicable folks that have agreed to host us. [laughs] Right on. Um, yeah. No, it should be pretty good, but just a little bit of a goof around.
16:00
Uh, certainly- Is there a competition element, or is this more of a just tour the, uh, the Partyville, uh, area? Um, you know, I, I think it's gonna be more of a tour.
16:11
Certainly we're gonna, we're gonna have a couple of fun categories that things will be awarded for, and there will be a way to win, and we'll have prizes and everything.
16:18
But- Maybe somebody, maybe somebody gets some extra points for the next day. Yeah. Somehow. I don't know how you- Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, like Top Chef's kinda thing. Well, you know, we're- It's like Chopped fire, you know...
16:26
we're talking about maybe, uh, including a couple of stops or, uh, tidbits that'll be worthwhile to know on Saturday if you come- Oh, there you go. Yep. Yep... through the Friday.
16:37
It'll make it a little easier- Oh, yeah... on you finding some of these weird places we're sending you. How- Yeah. How are you doing for volunteers? Do you need more? Should they contact you if they do, or- Um, yeah...
16:46
fuck all of you and we're good? I mean, if, uh, if anybody wants to volunteer, please reach out. We've got, uh, an Instagram for each of the events, Milwaukee Messenger Invitational or The Green Mile MKE.
16:56
I'll make sure- Heck yeah... we get that. We'll put it in the show notes so people can click on and- Yeah... and, and learn what's going on. That, that would be fantastic.
17:03
And, you know, stay tuned to those accounts for more details as they're released. You know, we're, uh, we're still filling in the sketch of the event, and, uh- Right on. Right on... you know, we'll, uh- Yep...
17:14
we'll give you previews of prizes. We've got Shaggy kinda making us some gear, Shaggy bags. No. Oh, yeah. We got a- Oh. Okay... we got a hip pouch and a wallet. A very rare Shag appearance.
17:25
Well, be sure after this show you check out my Shag on my bike. Oh. I'm sporting Shag today. You're sporting Shaggy? I am sporting Shag. Heck yeah. All right. Oh. Yeah. What else?
17:34
We got a, we got a local glassblower doing a first, second, and third winner's cup. Hm. Cool. Um, so that should be kind of fun. And you know, plenty of other good stuff. Yeah. Don't wanna give it all away.
17:47
And then the, uh, the after, after event thing is basically right across from where you start at The Pocket, which is basically where the old bike shop was- Mm-hmm... in the building with the Shitheads. Mm-hmm.
17:57
Oh, yeah Not the shit, not the pocket shit heads. Those guys are good shit heads. [laughs] The shit heads that own the building are shittier shit heads. Yeah. [laughs] Um, but yeah, so, uh, that...
18:05
I mean, it's, it's coming together. Just sounds like a good thing and, uh- Yeah. No, we'll have a little, uh, we'll have a little bonfire out there, some music, entertainment. Um, good times to be had. Yeah, for sure.
18:16
Sounds like. Speaking of good times, all of this trudging along- Yeah, we- [bell ringing] Oh, you know what? I need a- Jesus, God, we just got here... I need a beer... that was a long damn hill, man. Oh, no.
18:25
[laughs] It's timing. Timing is everything. Fuck. I don't, I don't think- Oh, I was climbing it first the whole way... that's- Uh, so while, while, while we're- Hamster wheel. Wee...
18:33
while we're putting our beer into koozies before Michael can tell us what we got- Oh, what do we got?... uh, I just wanted... So the bag thing, you're saying shaggy baggie. Oh, yeah.
18:40
Uh, just as an, as a heads up, somebody, uh, his name is Beau, bought Bailey Works, the- Oh... the, the excellent bag makers from- Yeah... uh, New Hampshire, I believe. Yeah.
18:50
What they're going to be doing now is doing custom frame bags, which, uh- Yes... is like, that is awesome. That's cool. Um, you can never have too many people that make good frame bags for your bike packing/uh, whatever.
19:02
Hell, yeah. Gotta carry shit on your bike and, uh, kind of excited to see what they do and- Absolutely... hopefully we'll have some. I'm, I'm, I angled in for a test bag on the, on the Bear Claw because- Uh-huh...
19:13
it's either Sturdy Joe, it's Sedero, it's them. It's like whoever sends the bag in is gonna get a lot of coverage- Uh-huh... on the old Fatbike.com- Right... is all I'm saying. So get us to it.
19:22
Bog I've got some specific requirements for carrying camera stuff, and it's like, let's make this thing badass and just show what you guys can do. Heck yeah. Are they keeping the full Bailey Works offering as is?
19:33
I believe to s- m- for mostly Most of it? I, he said there were some- Oh, I hope so... he said there were some- Yeah... updated, uh, updated products and w- I should learn more about that soon. But he- They were-...
19:44
he basically reached out 'cause w- we're a dealer- Yeah... and he's like, "Do you still wanna be able to order?" I'm like, "Yeah, fuck yeah, bro." Yeah. Yeah.
19:51
I mean, they were on my list between them and, and Road Runner. There's my Bailey Works bag right there, that orange thing poking out of there. Yeah. Oh. It's a Bail- it's, it's the small, uh, Bailey Works, uh, hip sack.
19:59
That's a nice bag. Man, I've had my eye on one of their hip pouches for a long time, so maybe, yeah. I'm so, I'm also rocking a Road Runner hip pouch- I, I-... for that same reason... yeah. Finally they had it.
20:10
Nice I sold my, uh, trash bags hip bag to, uh, Jessica- Road Runner bag. Oh... 'cause it was the color she l- The pink one? Yeah.
20:15
[laughs] Well, the trash ones are nice, but I almost wish there was more capacity for organization in those or something. You know, I got a couple that I, I like from Peak Design makes a really nice one.
20:26
They're not really a cycling company, but it's got a bunch of s- pockets and shit to put stuff in. Like- Yeah, that was cool, and we had that on the show once. Yeah.
20:34
Uh- Man, I'm still rocking a Vessel, and say what you will about that, those are- I just put mine away... good pouches I retired it for this. They, that was a great pouch. It's a good pouch.
20:42
Especially the stash zipper- Yeah, that little zip... which this doesn't have. Ah, I mean, man. [bell ringing] Oh, yeah. We gotta talk about the beers. [laughs] Oh.
20:48
[laughs] Well, you kept moving again, so I just reinforced it. Hey, when people start talking, shit starts happening. Um- I'm telling you. [laughs] Or not. Sierra Nevada Hop Tropical IPA. Tell us about that, Michael.
20:59
It's a Hop Tropical IPA. It's a limited IPA, 6.5%. How limited is Sierra Nevada's beer? Do they only make, like, 60,000 gallons of it or- Yeah. I wonder what their tanks are. They're big, I'm sure. I'm curious. Yeah.
21:11
They're still good. I don't care. Yeah. They got a non- And I saw s- They're not macro brewers. They're not Miller size... I saw, I saw 6.5. Yeah. It looked more approachable.
21:18
It- Yeah, that is definitely way more approachable... it's made with Southern Hemisphere hops. Yes. You can escape to the paradise [laughs] with notes of mango. [laughs] That's weird.
21:26
There's not a lot of hops that grow in the Southern Hemisphere. Oh, s- Mango... so it's a 6.5%. In citrus. It's, it's, uh, it's smooth drinking actually. Yeah. It's very easy drinking.
21:35
It's not as hoppy as I would have thought with the name Hop- I like it... Hop Tropical. Yeah. Maybe it's been tropicalified. And it was 16 bucks for a 12-pack, so it didn't suck either. Ooh. Where?
21:43
That's a octos gets you blotto. You got it. My name's Blotto. [laughs] Good deal. This is an easy drinking beer. Mm-hmm. Well, they had a six-pack for 10, and then I'm like, "Well, hey, hey."
21:54
I mean, if you're going swimming, you may as well get wet, man. I just looked down. I'm like, "Hey." Well, we had, we thought we might have five people, so you know, that certainly would have been, you know- Yeah...
22:03
more than good enough. Somebody has a big boy's head. Plus it's a beer or two. Yeah. Let me remind, let me re- let me- Yeah, any- anything more than three always confuses the six-pack matrix...
22:12
no, that's a, that's a terrible job, but just for us. He obviously loves it. Yeah. I run into him all the time. He's fired up about it. I'm, I'm like, "Yeah, dude, couldn't do it." No.
22:20
I don't think I got that in me either. No way. No way. Let me, let me remind Tony of something that I remember talking to Joe about. He's, I think, getting rid of his hops that he has on the side of his house.
22:33
Don't know if you need any more hops at your house, but- I do believe... might talk to Joe about hops. Centennial. I forget what else he has. He has, like, three varieties. My question would be, who's Joe? Joe.
22:49
Fucking Joe from Sheboygan. Joe. Meet Joe. Meet Joe that was on the show. Nedelsky? Yeah. Joe- Oh. Meet- I didn't know Joe had hops... meet- Okay... meet Joe Joe. Yeah. [laughs] Slow Food Joe.
23:02
Slow Food Joe, but meet Joe Joe. Okay. Slow Tony Joe. Is like Joe Nedelsky. [laughs] Joe Nedelsky. Okay. Yeah. I could take a couple of tubers. Yeah, I could definitely, I could use some hops. No, I'm just messing.
23:10
I got a lot of land. I think he mentioned it the other day, so I'm like- And I got a lot of land, man... might talk to him about it. We'll see. Well, definitely next time I see him, 'cause it is time to transplant those.
23:18
Yes, it is. Mm-hmm. Springy. I think Denardo is trying to get rid of his. I'm not sure. Those are mine. [laughs] What?
23:26
I gave him, I gave him those, so I can- Those are, those, I th- I think they're dead [laughs] or something. Oh, no, they don't die. Well, he's done his best to kill them. No. No, they're weeds. They don't...
23:36
Y- it'd be- Well-... really hard to kill them. Just like other weeds out there, hard to kill. As a family member, we know how to kill plants. Oh, okay. [laughs] Fair enough. Well- We don't...
23:45
I'm, I'm the only one with a green thumb in my family. No, I'm orange. Uh, so Wendy doesn't get to touch plants. I'm orange from smoking my own cigarettes. [laughs] And Cheetos.
23:53
We have, we have a family of people that are pretty handy. Risties? I'm going peppers this year. Risties? Peppers and green beans. [laughs] Risties Okay. Oh, man... some fun ones.
24:04
My goal this year is to get like a nicely rooted and set up, like, couple of herb plants that I can have through the winter- Mm-hmm... 'cause so fucking sick of trying to buy like fresh basil and- Right...
24:15
thyme and rosemary. Right. Oh, you get those going- Chives. Chives. Go for chives. Chives are a thing that- And LED lights... that are awesome to, to, to rock around. Yep. And they, you, they're- That's true...
24:23
rock around. It's right off. Heck yeah. That's tricky. Trick. Um- To build, to do some herbs in the winter... light, light- There are actually- Light, light- It's a garnish that actually has flavor...
24:29
light spotted LED lights will grow- Copy that... keep thyme going all year. Okay. Yeah. Not bad. It, it'll be fun. Well, we have, uh- Down to the water...
24:36
we have a, we have a couple of the AeroGardens, and those do herbs really well because- Mm-hmm... they- Herbs... they can just get packed in this little area, and they just get massively big in there. Huh.
24:45
And if you wanna put them outside in the, in the, in the summertime or whatever, that's fine, but they'll sit in there and be herby the whole time. Nice. Lettuce- I always wondered about those. That's cool...
24:55
peppers, herbs. You're growing lettuce in those? Herbs. Starting them. Starting them. Starting them. Starting lettuce. Then dr- Okay. Yeah. That's cool. Herbs.
25:02
And that- In the immortal words of Eddie Izzard- And it is a, it is a hydroponic setup- [laughs]... basically. Americans- Yes... you say herbs- A- aquaponic... you say herbs- There's no fish in there...
25:12
because there's a fucking H in it. Hydroponics. [laughs] Aqua... Doesn't aquaponics have a fish? [laughs] Yeah, the... Yeah. The- The, the tomatoes-... the fish poop is what feeds the- Right. Not in this case.
25:21
There are no goldfish- Yeah... in there today. Okay. My... Did I... We mentioned- I like aquaponics... my goldfish- That technology's incredible... I mentioned our- There's no goldfish for you...
25:28
I mentioned our family goldfish passed, didn't I? [gasps] Did not. After almost 11 years. Oh. And it was, uh... It was a big- What was his name? Gilbert. See you, Gilbert. We, we did- All white, brown?
25:38
We did a little Taps... Garrett, Garrett played Taps on his phone while we flushed him. Huh. [laughs] And then he woke up, he's like, "Just kidding." And then made his way to freedom. I'm not dead yet.
25:48
Well, it's- I feel happy. I feel happy. [laughs] Well, if he, if, if, if he was faking it, then he's in a better place now- Right... with the alligators and whoever else flushes- CHUD...
25:59
whatever they flush down the freaking- In the CHUD... CHUD. Yeah. Cannibal h- cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers. Yes. I remember those guys.
26:07
Uh, so we now have a, a BioCube, a 29-gallon BioCube, which, uh, technically made mostly for saltwater coral and all that stuff. Wendy's like- Coral?... "I think we wanna do a saltwater tank now." I'm like- Oh, no...
26:19
"All right." Oh, that's so expensive. Okay. It's a pain in the ass. Oh, dude. Oh. Oh, it's so much work. But it's made- I don't wanna- Do it. No, no. What... Okay. Then don't whine at all to me about it.
26:31
I lived, I lived in a house that had a- Oh, yeah. Your- Oh... your old roommate had some of that stuff- Oh. Oh. Oh, oh... going on. It is... Yeah. [laughs] I mean, we'll see. Well, if you want a challenge, you got it.
26:41
All right. So we could- I mean- We could, we could stick with- [laughs] Just- We could stick with freshwater fish, but I'm like, "Eh, fish-" You have a very well-insulated house. There are no drafts anywhere.
26:51
It'll be fine. Anywhere. It's made, it's made for suckers like me to spend money on. Uh, but, uh, uh, I thought about originally, a freshwater tank with live- Yes...
26:59
plants and all that stuff, except freshwater fish are fucking boring. But there's- They, they have no color. I, I hate to break this to you, all fish are boring. Stop it. I'm not allergic to fish.
27:10
You can watch them on YouTube, dude. [laughs] Iguana? You can watch shit like that on YouTube. Oh, you know what? Iguanas. You can put a computer screen there. Wait a second. Wendy always watches fireplaces, but- See?
27:20
You could-... she could watch-... watch fish... fish. Mm. And you know what you don't have to feed? The YouTubes. Fish? Oh, the, the, the TV. You don't have to feed [laughs] the TV. I don't know. She t- she's...
27:33
That's as sh- if it makes her happy- Wendy listens to this, doesn't she? Molly does not. Well, Molly's a m- she should listen to this- I, I know. She-... because she should support her husband and his- Oh, she does...
27:43
creative endeavors. She's... No. No. [laughs] Nice try. Here, I got one for you. All right. One of my dad's pals, uh, he owns Millen Roofing, so he's doing all right.
27:53
Um, they do all, like, the historical restoration roof jobs in town. They do copper, slate, et cetera. Ooh, nice. Um, but in their house, they had this... I mean,
28:03
it was about five feet tall, like a chicken wire-ish enclosure, but bigger than the table, full of chameleons. Wow. And they had a handful of chameleons with live trees and this whole, like- That's cool...
28:14
enclosure built for them. I kind of think that's cool. It was pretty sick. But not in Wisconsin. Anyway. Well, you know. Yeah. Okay.
28:20
Well, my buddy's old house, it l- they had this, like, weird atrium in the middle of a house in Hales Corners. You would not notice- Yeah... this from the street, but it...
28:29
Like, a sunken living room, and boom, boom, boom. You know, it was like this, like, mini jungle- I love that... for, like, the size of a room- With, with howler monkeys in there... like this. [laughs] Right. Right.
28:38
Well, there was a room, uh, well, it was the house with the lubrication s- Oh my God, an eyelash viper. We're all dead. [laughs] It's the same house that had- Wait, I wanna finish this, so I want you both to be quiet...
28:46
the same, the same house that had the lub- lubrication over the- Oh, boy... parent's bed. Okay. I mean, this was a treasure trove house- Wow... as a kid growing up, man. [laughs] I mean, I lo- I miss this house.
28:58
I ride, I drive by it on occasion just for nostalgic, like, "Oh." Was it one of those Hales Corners houses with, like, the big yards, maybe, like, sunk into the hills out there? Yep, yep, yep, yep. Yep. Yep.
29:07
There's some weird shit going- Yeah... on in that part of town. On Halicone. It was Halicone, Halicone Drive. Uh-huh. That's probably the subdivision- In between- There's some weird shit going on...
29:16
in be- in, in between, uh, Forest Home- It's like a subdivision of swingers... and Forest Home and Janesville. Yeah. That little weird pocket- Yeah... 300... There. That is. Yeah, out past the car dealers and stuff.
29:25
Mm-hmm. Uh-huh. Right in, like, right in its elbow. I have no idea what you guys are talking about. Like, right in, right, right in the elbow, armpit. Sherpers? I... Nope. Sherpers on Highway 100? Nope.
29:32
That was an Iowa staple, Sherpers. Oh, no. Haven't been on Highway 100- We know what we're talking about. We were there. We were there... 20 years. West Side Weirdos maybe. I don't c- I don't go west of Prairie.
29:40
You were not put on this earth to get Tony. [laughs] I don't... This is such a great s-... So anyway. Sorry, I had to, I had to- Chameleons?... David Lopez that. Yeah, just a box full of chameleons. That shit was dope.
29:52
It was pretty cool.
29:52
Like, uh, he'd pull this trick where he's like, "All right, you can't spot him," but, like, you'd come and you'd stick your hand into the enclosure with a cricket and then come out of nowhere and just eat out of your hand.
30:01
Are they like... How big are these things? Decently sized Jesus Christ, no... you know, couple of them in there All right, so I got a, I got a quick- That is cool. They didn't pull your arm in?
30:12
Well- I got a quick lizard story... maybe I've locked that one out So, uh, we were up in Bayfield, the family, in, uh, Northern Wisconsin and, uh, staying at a little,
30:22
you know, nice little cottage, and there's a bunch of gravel roads that are untraveled, and the family went out for a walk, the, the two kids and the, and Wendy.
30:31
And they were walking down the road and this, this thing popped up from behind a tree. It's about that tall on its back legs, and it had the big huge frill around its head.
30:42
It was a, it was a fr- frilled, whatever they call, the frilled lizard. What? Yeah. It was standing on its thing and hissing at them. Yeah. And they were like- Yeah, they were on their back legs...
30:50
"What the hell is that thing?" And it's got like a super yellow mouth and all this stuff. Yeah And we're like, "W- w- that's not native to this area." And then someone had a leash? What? No.
31:00
Somebody, it must have gotten out of somebody's house, but it was free-ranging up in Bayfield- Yeah... scaring my k- my family [laughs] because they're like, "That does not belong here."
31:10
And now there's 4,000 of them because- I-... they've been introduced... I can't imagine it survived the winter. They're cold-blooded and all. Yeah, man I don't think that would work very well, but...
31:17
found an alligator head floating in a lake in Pewaukee this winter. Oh. Yeah. How fantastic. Somebody's cat dragged it in and brought in, like- Like a freshwater alligator? Is that such a thing?
31:28
Well, at least- Uh, or something, yeah... for a couple of months until the weather turned. Uh- Yeah, they don't, they don't do well in the cold... no.
31:34
No, that was, that was one of the weirder news stories I saw recently. [laughs] One of the, uh, one of the stories that my mother-in-law freaked out about on our first trip to Costa Rica was that
31:47
some prison had some people escape. Okay. And then they tried to cross a river, and they found their feet because the alligators are so vicious. Oh, boy. [laughs] Well, what about piranhas?
31:59
You gotta worry about piranhas down there too. Right. Yeah, you know, so it was like... And she was like... I'm like, "I'm not going swimming." Yeah. We're good.
32:06
Like, I'm not going into fresh water where I know the potential of alligators is real. Yeah. Mm-mm. Mm-hmm. You know? I mean, no. We'll be fine.
32:14
[laughs] They rarely will go into an ocean 'cause there's too many things- Oh, into the ocean, into the food chain, dude. Dude, yeah. No way. Stupid thing to do. Still gonna snack on gators.
32:23
Out there one that- I think a shark- Eat you... could take a gator on Oh, yeah. Easy. But no. Uh- No, no, no. You don't enter the ocean.
32:29
I love, I love and re- You can, you can trickle in and come right back out, but surfers? Yeah. I love- Yeah. Every time I read about a surfer dying I'm like, "Well- I love and respect the aesthetic of the surfing...
32:40
you were in the ocean." [laughs] Right? Right... and it's just like, it's like I- It's hit my head... it's cool, but not me...
32:44
I'd love to do it, but I know that if I would try it, I would f- fail and flop, and then end up just floating there for a little bit, and then- And get ate... waiting for, like- [laughs] Get ate...
32:56
a rabid manatee to come in and- Michael... take me... I took surf lessons in Costa Rica. Oh, man It requires this thing called a core. Oh. I don't have a core. [laughs] That's right. It was a total waste of time.
33:12
It's right up in here. Right here? Mm. Yeah, you got a core, all right. [laughs] You know, you have to, you have to- Yeah, I see something in there... you have to jump up onto the surfboard and get ready.
33:21
Oh, you have to pop, actually. You have to pop up onto the surfboard. Pop and up. And yeah. I don't pop. Didn't you see Pop- No... Paul Rudd? Popping takes a lot of effort. Mm-hmm. Yeah.
33:28
Paul Rudd teaching, uh, whatever his face is and- No... forgetting Sarah Marshall. You pop and you up, and you pop, you up, and like, "Hey, whatever. You'll get it while you're out there. Let's go surfing now."
33:38
You don't. [laughs] Uh, the weather outside is weather. It's a horrible, horribly hard thing to do. I tried it. Everyone's like, "It's like skateboarding." Tried it twice. Like, no it's not.
33:47
No, it is not like skateboarding. It's nothing like skateboarding. [laughs] No. No. Skateboards- "Oh, it's like snowboarding." No, you're wrong... is skateboarding more like snowboarding than surfing? Yes, absolutely.
33:58
So I could, if I can skateboard- Yeah... I could maybe figure out snowboarding? Oh, yeah. Yeah, piece of cake. Eh. I just don't wanna be slammed onto the ground, like, 28 times- Oh, you're gonna have it happen.
34:05
You, that, that's gonna happen... at, at, at my advanced age. Yeah, it'll happen. How loose do you ride your trucks? Well, fairly loose. They be all right. I mean, I haven't actually skateboarded in a long time.
34:16
I was just- We did talk about this because- It's, it's funny... well, because, because the tur- the turf is coming back... I was just watching Dog Po- Dogtown and Z-Boys. Oh, I love that. [laughs] I love that.
34:25
I was like, I'm like, "Eh, I got a half hour. I'm just gonna lay back and just relax." What a great, great- And that was my relaxing half hour was-... smoke a joint, watch some- Yeah... Dogtown and Z-Boys...
34:36
Sean Penn narrated, and where he even coughs in the middle of it- Mm-hmm... and kind of screws up, and they just leave it in. [coughs] And then, you know, just keep it in there. Good enough. Why not? [laughs] All right.
34:44
So Brett, Brett, here, anything else we should know about the Green Mile before we wrap this, uh, this, this extended version of the old, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling? Yeah. Um, Green Mile, good time.
34:56
Fu- little goof-around tour of the city. Nice meet and greet for everybody in for the MMI. Uh, MMI, that's, uh, that's the main course. You know, you're gonna wanna,
35:06
you wanna, you wanna bring your riding shorts for that one. Uh- Yeah, that's, and, and it, and it is, you know, I, we, it's very, like, messenger oriented. It's almost like- Yeah...
35:16
you're, you have a day of being a messenger and- No, this is a simulated work day. Simulated work day. There's, there's gonna be- [laughs]... things you gotta carry.
35:22
There's gonna be logistical issues you have to figure out. There's gonna be procedures you gotta follow. It's, uh- Gonna be extra manifests you gotta pick up and- Mm-hmm.
35:30
Oh, and a, a little, uh, helpful tidbit for- Oh, oh, oh... our participants that have listened in. Yeah. Yeah.
35:35
We've got a manifest that you'll leave with and, uh, two secret ones waiting out there for you curated by some of Milwaukee's finest OG messengers. OGs. Nice. Yep. So we, uh, we expect some fun stuff to happen out there.
35:48
Yeah. So if you didn't listen to this podcast, you're fucking bald. [laughs] Yeah, you should probably check in, and check in next week for show 300.
35:55
It's probably gonna be like show 299, 298, 297, but Brett might not be here. Or I might. So- I'll probably be here. Or he might. [laughs] I'll probably be here. I'll probably be here. Probably. All right, everybody.
36:07
You know what? We did it again. Oops. Uh, we did it again. [laughs] And, uh, I don't know. I'm gonna push this button. [rock music]
