- 0:26SPEAKER_25: Hello guys.
- 0:28SPEAKER_25: Welcome to the O'Brien and Death Podcast.
- 0:29SPEAKER_25: I'm O'Brien.
- 0:30SPEAKER_25: I'm Doug.
- 0:31SPEAKER_25: Episode 247.
- 0:34SPEAKER_25: Can you imagine doing seven ago?
- 0:36SPEAKER_25: Can you imagine doing this podcast 24-7?
- 0:39SPEAKER_18: I could.
- 0:40SPEAKER_25: Yeah?
- 0:41SPEAKER_25: We'd get loopy.
- 0:43SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 0:44SPEAKER_18: We should do that sometime.
- 0:45SPEAKER_18: Have like a 24-hour like podcast.
- 0:48SPEAKER_18: Podcast session.
- 0:49SPEAKER_18: You think our batteries would last?
- 0:50SPEAKER_18: Well, we just have to keep changing them out.
- 0:52SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 0:52SPEAKER_18: Or, you know, do the smart thing and find an AC plug.
- 0:56SPEAKER_25: Yeah, right.
- 0:57SPEAKER_25: We should.
- 0:57SPEAKER_25: We should do that actually.
- 0:58SPEAKER_18: I think we should, but you know.
- 1:00SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:00SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:01SPEAKER_25: Nobody is the wiser.
- 1:02SPEAKER_25: I mean, so so what happens sometimes is our little machine here.
- 1:06SPEAKER_25: Um, sometimes the batteries will run out uh mid-podcast and we'll have to replace the batteries and kind of pick up where we left off.
- 1:12SPEAKER_25: But we edit it so it's like almost seamless.
- 1:15SPEAKER_25: You wouldn't know.
- 1:16SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 1:16SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:17SPEAKER_25: So um it kind of goes to the territory.
- 1:20SPEAKER_18: It's like it's like it's like Russian roulette.
- 1:22SPEAKER_18: You know, like when's it gonna crap out?
- 1:24SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:24SPEAKER_18: You know, is it gonna be during a really funny part, or is it gonna be, you know, when we're like in transition or something, or is it in an easy place where we can like edit it, right?
- 1:33SPEAKER_25: Edit it together.
- 1:34SPEAKER_25: Pick it back up.
- 1:35SPEAKER_25: Sometimes it's there's sometimes there's like no uh you I mean you can't even tell that it was that there was an edit.
- 1:42SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:42SPEAKER_25: And then sometimes it's like you have to just pick your, you know, yeah, you gotta find a spot.
- 1:48SPEAKER_18: Find a spot.
- 1:49SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:49SPEAKER_25: Um but so it's either the batteries or sometimes our disc will have an error and crap out of it.
- 1:56SPEAKER_25: Yeah, it just dies.
- 1:57SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:57SPEAKER_25: But you know, why are we talking about that?
- 1:59SPEAKER_18: I blame I I blame the aliens.
- 2:02SPEAKER_18: Yes.
- 2:02SPEAKER_18: Did you see what I just posted on Facebook?
- 2:04SPEAKER_25: Speaking of aliens.
- 2:05SPEAKER_25: No.
- 2:06SPEAKER_25: Um I found this and I I I felt the need to uh to post it just because I'm I'm that guy.
- 2:13SPEAKER_25: Urgent warning for tomorrow.
- 2:15SPEAKER_25: Aliens are coming to Earth tomorrow.
- 2:16SPEAKER_25: Their mission is to abduct all sexy, good-looking old people.
- 2:19SPEAKER_25: Just sharing to say goodbye.
- 2:20SPEAKER_25: I've got a pack.
- 2:23SPEAKER_25: Thought that was my humor.
- 2:25SPEAKER_18: I like it.
- 2:26SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 2:26SPEAKER_18: So um So if I don't see you the rest of the week, I'll know where you are.
- 2:30SPEAKER_18: Yes.
- 2:30SPEAKER_18: I'm abducted by aliens.
- 2:32SPEAKER_18: I'm I'm being probed.
- 2:34SPEAKER_18: Probed sounds like a good weekend to me.
- 2:38SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 2:40SPEAKER_25: Uh so let's see.
- 2:42SPEAKER_25: What did what did what what's we had Father's Day?
- 2:45SPEAKER_25: Father's Day.
- 2:45SPEAKER_25: I saw you a picture with your dad.
- 2:47SPEAKER_18: Yeah, that was from a obviously from the winter.
- 2:51SPEAKER_18: Actually, no, that was from uh May of 2020.
- 2:56SPEAKER_25: Basically the winter.
- 2:57SPEAKER_18: Well, it was remember it was like it was like the week before Memorial Day.
- 3:01SPEAKER_18: We got two feet of snow.
- 3:02SPEAKER_25: I'll never forget it.
- 3:03SPEAKER_25: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 3:04SPEAKER_18: I was just like, that was funny.
- 3:05SPEAKER_18: My dad was like, so let's make a snowman.
- 3:08SPEAKER_25: I'm like in May.
- 3:10SPEAKER_18: I'm like, you know, I'm you know what, you know, I'm you know, almost 50 years old and you're in your late 70s.
- 3:16SPEAKER_18: I don't care when I'm gonna put you because the eyes and the mouth are bud light.
- 3:22SPEAKER_12: Right, yeah.
- 3:22SPEAKER_18: Uh bottle caps.
- 3:24SPEAKER_18: Bottle caps.
- 3:24SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 3:25SPEAKER_18: And where he found the American flags, I don't even I don't even remember.
- 3:28SPEAKER_18: So it was cool.
- 3:29SPEAKER_25: It was cool.
- 3:30SPEAKER_25: It was a cool picture too.
- 3:31SPEAKER_25: It was fun.
- 3:32SPEAKER_25: My kids, so I got um a big breakfast when I woke up.
- 3:35SPEAKER_25: Um my wife made me a breakfast.
- 3:36SPEAKER_25: It was supposed to be made by bacon and eggs and pancakes.
- 3:39SPEAKER_25: Uh it was actually it was uh sausage sausage, eggs, toast.
- 3:44SPEAKER_25: Sausage, egg, and toast.
- 3:46SPEAKER_25: But it was it was good.
- 3:47SPEAKER_25: It was nice, a nice meal.
- 3:48SPEAKER_25: And uh it was supposed to be made by my daughter, but she was too tired and she had to take a shower.
- 3:52SPEAKER_25: So my wife made it.
- 3:53SPEAKER_25: So it was nice.
- 3:55SPEAKER_25: Um and we let's see.
- 3:58SPEAKER_25: Well, actually the night before we went and saw How to Train Your Dragon, I took my daughter to see that.
- 4:02SPEAKER_25: Oh, the the live action.
- 4:03SPEAKER_18: Oh, is that what it is?
- 4:04SPEAKER_18: Yeah, it's live action.
- 4:05SPEAKER_25: It looks like another cartoon.
- 4:06SPEAKER_25: Nope.
- 4:07SPEAKER_25: Well, I mean, there's I think there's a lot of stuff that's CGI, obviously, you know, but but uh it's it's live action.
- 4:14SPEAKER_18: Okay um butn't that already come out like some years ago?
- 4:19SPEAKER_25: Well, here's the thing the the uh years ago it was animated.
- 4:22SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 4:23SPEAKER_25: So it's the same movie.
- 4:25SPEAKER_25: Essentially.
- 4:25SPEAKER_24: Okay.
- 4:26SPEAKER_25: So what but what's cool, and my and I talked to my daughter out in Ohio about this because she's a film buff, and she's like, How to train your dragon is the way it's supposed to be done.
- 4:36SPEAKER_25: So like the new one or the old one?
- 4:38SPEAKER_25: The new one, the like if you're gonna make a live action, this is the way it's supposed to be done.
- 4:41SPEAKER_25: Okay.
- 4:42SPEAKER_25: Because I went to that movie and my daughter obviously was was highly entertained, which you know, it's a crapshoot lately when you go to the movies, and she was she enjoyed the entire thing and she was like riveted the whole time.
- 4:54SPEAKER_25: She wants to see it again, actually.
- 4:55SPEAKER_25: Well, good.
- 4:56SPEAKER_25: Uh, and she's seen the original, the animated one.
- 4:59SPEAKER_25: And I walked away with it thinking, I think that was shot by shot the same movie.
- 5:06SPEAKER_18: Uh it most likely is.
- 5:08SPEAKER_25: Like the animated version.
- 5:09SPEAKER_25: They just took the shots and made it live action.
- 5:11SPEAKER_25: Obviously, you can't make it live.
- 5:13SPEAKER_25: It's all the CGI with the dragons and everything.
- 5:16SPEAKER_18: Well, you there are dragons.
- 5:18SPEAKER_18: Well, I know, but not like this.
- 5:20SPEAKER_25: Um but where she says in in my my oldest uh out in Ohio, she says, with Lilo and Stitch, which they remade, right?
- 5:30SPEAKER_25: The new one is is is a remake of the original.
- 5:34SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 5:36SPEAKER_25: Right?
- 5:36SPEAKER_18: But it's more well, I don't want to get in, but it's for example, um Well, basically the new one is basically the little girl.
- 5:48SPEAKER_18: I don't know if she's Lelo or Stitch, I don't know what she is.
- 5:51SPEAKER_18: She's been abandoned by her mother.
- 5:53SPEAKER_18: Because in the cartoon version, it's like, oh, it's all about family.
- 5:57SPEAKER_18: And this one's like, hey, I'm gonna put you in the foster care system.
- 6:00SPEAKER_18: That's what my daughter's.
- 6:01SPEAKER_18: Now you're now you're hooked up with this freaking alien thing.
- 6:04SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 6:04SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_18: Woo!
- 6:05SPEAKER_25: Yeah, progress.
- 6:06SPEAKER_25: And it ends that way too.
- 6:07SPEAKER_25: She goes, they put her up for uh in the foster family or something like that.
- 6:13SPEAKER_18: Oh, that's everybody wants that's whatever that's a happy ending.
- 6:15SPEAKER_25: Yeah, exactly.
- 6:16SPEAKER_25: So that's the way not to do a remake or you know Yeah, we'll leave it to Disney.
- 6:21SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 6:22SPEAKER_25: So but but we were we were entertained.
- 6:25SPEAKER_25: I don't know that I would go to the theater to see it again, but my my daughter wants to.
- 6:29SPEAKER_25: She came home and the next day she watched the animated version.
- 6:32SPEAKER_25: Well.
- 6:32SPEAKER_25: So I mean it was it was well done.
- 6:34SPEAKER_18: Definitely impactful.
- 6:35SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 6:36SPEAKER_18: That's good for sure.
- 6:37SPEAKER_25: Uh and then let's see.
- 6:38SPEAKER_25: So their father's a thing.
- 6:40SPEAKER_25: Oh, so they got me a uh, you know, we go to watch my kids' soccer games in the fall.
- 6:44SPEAKER_25: Correct.
- 6:45SPEAKER_25: And we bring our our either we'll bring our our um bench chairs that Teresa makes, yeah, or we'll bring uh lawn lawn chairs or like uh camp chairs.
- 6:57SPEAKER_25: Well they got me a camp chair that's you know, it's got a cup holder and it's got a pocket and blah blah blah.
- 7:06SPEAKER_25: But the best is it's a rocker.
- 7:08SPEAKER_25: Oh, it's a rocking chair.
- 7:09SPEAKER_25: Those are nice.
- 7:10SPEAKER_25: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 7:11SPEAKER_25: So I'm excited to just use that.
- 7:14SPEAKER_18: Mine has a cup holder and has like on the like attached to the seat part, yeah, little pocket like you can put your phone in.
- 7:22SPEAKER_25: I that's my mine does too.
- 7:23SPEAKER_18: And on this side, it's a little it's refrigerated.
- 7:27SPEAKER_18: It's like a little cooler.
- 7:28SPEAKER_18: So you can put like cool things in there or a warm thing to keep them cold and keep them hot in there.
- 7:32SPEAKER_25: Wow.
- 7:33SPEAKER_18: Yeah, that's pretty neat.
- 7:34SPEAKER_18: Um and it's for fat people too.
- 7:37SPEAKER_25: So I forgot that you're retired.
- 7:40SPEAKER_25: I keep forgetting that.
- 7:41SPEAKER_25: You can c do you like soccer?
- 7:44SPEAKER_25: Not particularly.
- 7:45SPEAKER_25: But you'd want to come support my kids, wouldn't you?
- 7:47SPEAKER_18: Well, yeah, I could do that.
- 7:48SPEAKER_25: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:48SPEAKER_25: Could you come to the come this fall and hang out with us and watch games or something?
- 7:52SPEAKER_25: That'd be fun.
- 7:52SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I can do that.
- 7:53SPEAKER_25: Yeah, we can you can holler with the best of them.
- 7:55SPEAKER_17: I'd be like, yeah! You suck! Get the ball! Take the ball and kick it down there and put it in the net thing.
- 8:05SPEAKER_17: Because I'm super good at soccer!
- 8:09SPEAKER_25: Yeah, come with us.
- 8:11SPEAKER_17: Hey, ref! Where are your glasses?
- 8:14SPEAKER_17: You want to borrow mine, you pink of crap?
- 8:19SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 8:20SPEAKER_18: So it'd be at least one.
- 8:21SPEAKER_18: We'll talk to my wife.
- 8:23SPEAKER_18: I'll get to come to one.
- 8:25SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 8:25SPEAKER_18: They'll be like, uh, that guy you brought?
- 8:28SPEAKER_25: Can you uh I'm I'm revoking your season pass.
- 8:30SPEAKER_18: You'd be like, yeah, you you can stay away.
- 8:32SPEAKER_18: And they'd be like, what did I do?
- 8:34SPEAKER_18: I was just giving constructive criticism.
- 8:36SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 8:37SPEAKER_25: Uh what else is going on?
- 8:39SPEAKER_25: What else did we miss?
- 8:40SPEAKER_25: Um well we'll talk about uh the the big topic here in a second.
- 8:44SPEAKER_25: What was the thing you wanted to mention?
- 8:47SPEAKER_18: Well, speaking of being retired, yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_18: I've been retired for six-ish weeks now.
- 8:53SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 8:54SPEAKER_18: Um people gotta stop complaining to me about how things are there now.
- 9:01SPEAKER_25: Oh, at the uh your former post- At the post office, yeah.
- 9:04SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 9:05SPEAKER_18: Because A, I don't care.
- 9:07SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 9:08SPEAKER_18: Why would you?
- 9:09SPEAKER_18: Um B, um, what did you expect when you have an entity that is where you know the people up here are micromanaged by bureaucratic pinheads hundreds of miles away, right, who are also micromanaged by bureaucratic pinheads who are even further away in the spawn point for stupidity, namely Washington D.C.
- 9:36SPEAKER_18: Yep.
- 9:36SPEAKER_18: So I'm like, well what did you want me to what do you want me to say?
- 9:41SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 9:43SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I understand they're shorthanded now.
- 9:46SPEAKER_18: I get it.
- 9:47SPEAKER_18: It's not like it was a surprise.
- 9:49SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 9:50SPEAKER_18: Because they offered me the early retirement in January.
- 9:54SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 9:55SPEAKER_18: Okay, January.
- 9:56SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 9:56SPEAKER_25: You had plenty of time.
- 9:58SPEAKER_18: And I had to have the paperwork in by the beginning of March.
- 10:01SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 10:02SPEAKER_18: So even if even if they had no idea I was going to take the offer, you still had that period of like five, six weeks where you could start finding replacement.
- 10:12SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 10:15SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 10:16SPEAKER_18: So you retire March.
- 10:17SPEAKER_18: So now it's been since March.
- 10:20SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 10:21SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 10:22SPEAKER_18: So being the brilliant minds that are running this organization.
- 10:27SPEAKER_18: The government.
- 10:28SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 10:29SPEAKER_18: So you can't automatically just hire somebody.
- 10:34SPEAKER_18: First you got to give it to somebody within, like, you know, like an internal promotion.
- 10:39SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 10:39SPEAKER_18: I totally get it.
- 10:40SPEAKER_18: Yep.
- 10:41SPEAKER_18: So they did that.
- 10:43SPEAKER_18: They did it the week before I got done, but they did it.
- 10:47SPEAKER_18: Okay?
- 10:48SPEAKER_18: So now that person has moved up.
- 10:50SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 10:50SPEAKER_18: But we're still short-handed.
- 10:52SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 10:54SPEAKER_18: So now you can't post the job until you retire.
- 10:59SPEAKER_18: So that's May 1st.
- 11:01unknown: Okay?
- 11:02SPEAKER_18: So they can post the job then.
- 11:03SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 11:04SPEAKER_18: Now, assuming that you can get anybody that wants to freaking work anymore, right?
- 11:10SPEAKER_18: You gotta go through you know, the first set of bureaucratic pinheads that have never touched mail in their life.
- 11:19SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 11:20SPEAKER_18: I mean, if you ran a business, right?
- 11:26SPEAKER_18: Yep.
- 11:27SPEAKER_18: Would you I mean would you wait this long?
- 11:32SPEAKER_18: You know what I'm saying?
- 11:33SPEAKER_18: Would you wait a long time to be like, well, Doug's gonna retire soon?
- 11:38SPEAKER_18: I should probably get somebody else, get him ready to go.
- 11:41SPEAKER_25: They sat on their hands, basically.
- 11:43SPEAKER_18: Yeah, and that's exactly what's happening.
- 11:45SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 11:45SPEAKER_18: So now everybody is suffering.
- 11:47SPEAKER_18: I know at least two places that I filled in up here that have gone without people for two, three days in a row.
- 11:55SPEAKER_18: So how does that work if they've gone without people?
- 11:58SPEAKER_18: Well, the the the lob where you get your mail is still open.
- 12:02SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 12:02SPEAKER_25: Well, how does the mail get there?
- 12:03SPEAKER_18: They gotta bring it up.
- 12:05SPEAKER_18: Somebody has to go in, sort it, and then go back to where they're at.
- 12:08SPEAKER_12: Oh.
- 12:09SPEAKER_18: They just basically just come in, sort it.
- 12:11SPEAKER_18: They don't sell stamps or send rich packages or anything like that.
- 12:14SPEAKER_18: So I know at least two places that have had to go through this.
- 12:17SPEAKER_18: Wow.
- 12:17SPEAKER_18: And I'm like, what but are you surprised?
- 12:23SPEAKER_18: I mean, I mean, why are you surprised that this is happening?
- 12:27SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 12:29SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 12:29SPEAKER_25: I mean, you know, just how often do you go wash your hands of it?
- 12:35SPEAKER_18: I'm always just like, oh, okay.
- 12:37SPEAKER_18: Hey, d did you know that uh I'm I'm not caring about what you're saying?
- 12:42SPEAKER_25: So this is somebody like somebody stopping you in the store or something.
- 12:46SPEAKER_18: Oh no, they just see you and they're just like, oh, I'm gonna give Doug my opinion.
- 12:51SPEAKER_18: Well uh I your opinion's like your butthole.
- 12:54SPEAKER_18: I don't care.
- 12:55SPEAKER_18: You have one, okay, fine.
- 12:57SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 12:57SPEAKER_18: Uh A, shut up.
- 12:59SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 13:00SPEAKER_18: Two, leave me alone.
- 13:01SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 13:02SPEAKER_18: I don't care.
- 13:03SPEAKER_18: I don't want to care.
- 13:05SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 13:05SPEAKER_18: I have moved on from that part of my life, and now I'm going to move on.
- 13:11SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 13:12SPEAKER_18: Now, in the coming times, if you want to complain that your kid can't read, alright, I'll listen to it.
- 13:20SPEAKER_18: Maybe your kid's just stupid.
- 13:22SPEAKER_18: I don't know.
- 13:23SPEAKER_18: I don't know.
- 13:24SPEAKER_18: I don't know what your gene pool is like.
- 13:26SPEAKER_18: What you know?
- 13:27SPEAKER_25: You mean because like the the other uh avenue that you're gonna pursue?
- 13:31SPEAKER_25: Is that what you mean?
- 13:32SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 13:32SPEAKER_25: Because you're talking about being a substitute?
- 13:34SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_25: And you're saying if your kid can't read, then maybe they're just not my problem.
- 13:38SPEAKER_25: Maybe they're just stupid.
- 13:39SPEAKER_18: Yeah, maybe they're just dumb.
- 13:40SPEAKER_18: That happens.
- 13:42SPEAKER_25: Well, yeah, did you see the the Maine is like in the bottom deep?
- 13:46SPEAKER_18: Mississippi is now smarter than we are.
- 13:49SPEAKER_18: Yes.
- 13:49SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 13:50SPEAKER_18: Mississippi.
- 13:52SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 13:54SPEAKER_18: Nobody can make fun of Mississippi anymore.
- 13:57SPEAKER_18: But they can make fun of Maine.
- 13:58SPEAKER_18: Oh, absolutely, and they should.
- 13:59SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 14:00SPEAKER_18: I mean, we totally deserve it.
- 14:01SPEAKER_18: Yep.
- 14:02SPEAKER_18: You know what I mean?
- 14:03SPEAKER_18: Just yeah.
- 14:04SPEAKER_18: Hey, go to Maine.
- 14:06SPEAKER_18: They're all stupid up there.
- 14:07SPEAKER_18: They'll fall for it.
- 14:08SPEAKER_22: Yeah.
- 14:09SPEAKER_18: They can't read.
- 14:10SPEAKER_18: They can't do math.
- 14:12SPEAKER_18: Let's put them in the government.
- 14:13SPEAKER_18: Right?
- 14:14SPEAKER_18: They'll fit right in.
- 14:15SPEAKER_18: There's plenty of jobs in the post office.
- 14:17SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 14:17SPEAKER_18: Hey, get a job at the post office.
- 14:19SPEAKER_18: How much is a stamp?
- 14:21SPEAKER_18: I don't know.
- 14:23SPEAKER_18: Four dollars.
- 14:23SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I just saw a thing that the let the Senate just passed.
- 14:28SPEAKER_25: The main Senate.
- 14:30SPEAKER_25: Um I'm not gonna get into it.
- 14:32SPEAKER_25: We'll get into it af after the podcast, but it's uh mind-blowing.
- 14:37SPEAKER_25: It's mind blowing the stuff that's going on in our state.
- 14:40SPEAKER_25: Not even surprised.
- 14:41SPEAKER_25: It's anyway.
- 14:43SPEAKER_18: Well, you have two different mains.
- 14:45SPEAKER_25: This is true.
- 14:46SPEAKER_25: Oh you have two different mains.
- 14:47SPEAKER_25: For sure.
- 14:48SPEAKER_18: That has never been more you have northern Massachusetts and then you have everybody else.
- 14:53SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 14:53SPEAKER_25: You know what I mean?
- 14:54SPEAKER_25: Yeah, that has never been more true.
- 14:55SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 14:56SPEAKER_25: You know, I mean we've always we've always thought that, right?
- 14:59SPEAKER_18: Yeah, but it's it's it's crystal clear now.
- 15:01SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_18: And if it's not crystal clear, then then you don't get it.
- 15:05SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 15:05SPEAKER_18: You know what I mean?
- 15:06SPEAKER_18: So for sure.
- 15:08SPEAKER_25: For sure.
- 15:09SPEAKER_25: Um the other thing I wanted to talk about, uh Brian Wilson.
- 15:12SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 15:13SPEAKER_25: Uh the legendary Beach Boy, uh, actually the genius of the Beach Boys, the the motor, the engine of the Beach Boys, uh passed away.
- 15:24SPEAKER_25: Uh he was suffering from dementia.
- 15:26SPEAKER_25: Um and I mean the stuff that he's gone through in his life and say that the guy that he made it this far is amazing.
- 15:35SPEAKER_25: Yeah, it is it is true.
- 15:36SPEAKER_25: He should have been he should have been gone a long time ago.
- 15:38SPEAKER_25: I mean the drugs and the mental illness and just but the genius that came out of that.
- 15:46SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah.
- 15:47SPEAKER_25: I mean, the music.
- 15:49SPEAKER_25: Um I was watching, I can't remember the I I would like to give it credit, but I can't remember the name of the YouTuber.
- 15:56SPEAKER_25: But we finished today was our last day of school.
- 15:59SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah.
- 15:59SPEAKER_25: Right?
- 15:59SPEAKER_25: So I'm done with the well for the for the little kids, for the under the little grades.
- 16:04SPEAKER_25: Um I'm I'm done with them.
- 16:06SPEAKER_25: I have to go back for an in-service.
- 16:07SPEAKER_25: I'm done with you.
- 16:08SPEAKER_25: I'm done with them.
- 16:09SPEAKER_25: I'm done.
- 16:09SPEAKER_25: I have to go back for in-service tomorrow and believe it or not, Saturday.
- 16:13SPEAKER_25: Um and then I have Saturday.
- 16:16SPEAKER_25: Yeah, well, they're giving us because we'll give so we have a holiday in the middle of the week, right?
- 16:20SPEAKER_25: Oh, it's Juneteenth.
- 16:21SPEAKER_25: Yeah, so so I have an in-service tomorrow for for the uh younger grades.
- 16:26SPEAKER_25: Then we have Thursday off.
- 16:28SPEAKER_25: The high school is still in, but they're doing finals.
- 16:30SPEAKER_25: All right.
- 16:31SPEAKER_25: So Friday, I have to go and sit for a finals, period.
- 16:36SPEAKER_25: And then we have the option to do another in-service for the high school Saturday from eight to one or Monday from eight to one.
- 16:46SPEAKER_25: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 16:46SPEAKER_25: I chose Saturday just to get rid of it, to get it done.
- 16:49SPEAKER_18: Well, we have a gig Saturday.
- 16:50SPEAKER_25: Yeah, we do that night, yeah.
- 16:51SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 16:52SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 16:53SPEAKER_25: So um yeah, anyway, so what was I saying?
- 16:58SPEAKER_25: Brian Wilson.
- 16:59SPEAKER_25: Brian Wilson.
- 17:00SPEAKER_25: So um finished with because it was an early release day today.
- 17:03SPEAKER_25: So I had three classes this morning, and then I had like maybe an hour before lunch all to myself.
- 17:10SPEAKER_25: So I s I clean my classroom, and as I'm cleaning my classroom, I'm watching this YouTuber uh reacting.
- 17:15SPEAKER_25: You know those reaction videos.
- 17:17SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah, I watch them all the time.
- 17:18SPEAKER_25: And this guy, I see, you know, I never know when to believe these people that say Oh, I've never heard a Beach Boy song.
- 17:27SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 17:28SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 17:28SPEAKER_25: You know, he he loves the Beatles and blah blah blah, and the Beatles and the Beach Boys had a had a thing and blah blah blah, but I've never really listened to the Beach Boys.
- 17:36SPEAKER_25: So I'm gonna I'm gonna sit and I'm gonna listen to some Beach Boys.
- 17:38SPEAKER_25: And then he had another video where he's never heard Bohemian Rhapsody.
- 17:42SPEAKER_18: Yeah, that yeah, it's bull.
- 17:43SPEAKER_18: Yeah, it's gotta be bull.
- 17:45SPEAKER_18: I mean, I can understand if you were brought up in But this guy was a quote unquote producer.
- 17:50SPEAKER_18: Yeah, you're that's BS.
- 17:52SPEAKER_25: Yeah, yeah, you're just but not.
- 17:54SPEAKER_25: He he you know, I listened or I watched him react to some Beach Boys tunes, and he was like, It's genius.
- 18:03SPEAKER_25: And it is.
- 18:04SPEAKER_25: I mean, and I never knew I mean I I've always loved the Beach Boys, always and appreciated the Beach Boys, and knew that it was it was different.
- 18:14SPEAKER_25: But as I'm do you ever do this, like when you're watching those reaction videos, you're anticipating their reaction to a certain part of the song.
- 18:27SPEAKER_25: Or you're anticipating um just what they're gonna say to uh I I don't know, a um a harmony or you know, just something that stands out.
- 18:40SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 18:41SPEAKER_25: And so as I'm kind of watching this and in anticipation as to his reaction, I'm paying attention, closer attention, to the things that are going on in the song.
- 18:54SPEAKER_25: For example, uh, wouldn't it be nice?
- 18:57SPEAKER_25: Wouldn't it be nice?
- 18:59SPEAKER_25: The number of key changes in that song, never noticed before.
- 19:05SPEAKER_25: Um the the layered harmony vocals and the and the and the counterpoint melodies that are in that song.
- 19:16SPEAKER_25: You know, we think of it as just a and it is just as kind of a simple song, but it's pretty complex.
- 19:24SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 19:25SPEAKER_25: When you really pick it apart.
- 19:28SPEAKER_25: When you really dig down.
- 19:28SPEAKER_25: Good vibrations is a good example.
- 19:31SPEAKER_25: Just monumental.
- 19:34SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 19:34SPEAKER_25: Um and and just genius music that changed pop music.
- 19:39SPEAKER_18: Uh I'm basically the whole pet sounds album.
- 19:42SPEAKER_25: Oh, yeah.
- 19:42SPEAKER_18: You know what I mean?
- 19:43SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 19:43SPEAKER_18: Well, that's just a work of art.
- 19:46SPEAKER_25: Sergeant Do I get my my history right?
- 19:48SPEAKER_25: Sergeant Pepper is a reaction to Pet Sounds.
- 19:50SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 19:51SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 19:51SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 19:52SPEAKER_18: Basically they were like, oh, you guys made that, we're gonna make this.
- 19:54SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 19:55SPEAKER_25: So uh I I d I don't know.
- 20:00SPEAKER_25: And you know, you knew he was gonna go soon.
- 20:03SPEAKER_25: You know, all our heroes, we're talking about all our heroes are dying.
- 20:06SPEAKER_25: You know, but I want to, if you it's okay with you, um dedicate um our wall of tunes uh on this episode to our favorite Beach Boy songs.
- 20:18SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 20:18SPEAKER_25: Does that work for you?
- 20:19SPEAKER_25: No, absolutely.
- 20:19SPEAKER_25: Okay, good.
- 20:20SPEAKER_25: Because I mean there's some there's some that are my absolute favorite.
- 20:25SPEAKER_25: I mean, like junior high.
- 20:27SPEAKER_25: I remember when Bob and I were in a big beach phase.
- 20:32SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah, you guys are really into surfing.
- 20:34SPEAKER_18: We were and I I couldn't I never understood it because it was just like you are so far from the ocean.
- 20:40SPEAKER_18: We had surf posters on.
- 20:42SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah, you guys wore uh the the Bermuda shorts.
- 20:45SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 20:45SPEAKER_18: I know Bob loved them.
- 20:46SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah.
- 20:47SPEAKER_18: Yeah, we had I was just like, well, that's that's their thing.
- 20:52SPEAKER_18: I mean, I I never got it.
- 20:53SPEAKER_18: I never understood it.
- 20:55SPEAKER_25: It wasn't just surfing though, it was the beach lifestyle that we were we were kind of hung up on, and and so much so that I put a volleyball net in my backyard on Fourth Street and and put the the ghetto blaster out my bedroom window and played the Beach Boys, and we played volleyball in our Bermu Bermuda shorts.
- 21:14SPEAKER_18: Well, I wonder if that was part beach life, part top gun.
- 21:18SPEAKER_25: Uh it could be.
- 21:19SPEAKER_25: It was right around that era.
- 21:20SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 21:20SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I never even thought about that.
- 21:22SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 21:22SPEAKER_25: Yeah, it was right around that era.
- 21:23SPEAKER_25: So it's probably, you know, because I mean, you know, we wanted to be fighter pilots too.
- 21:29SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 21:29SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 21:30SPEAKER_25: Totally, man.
- 21:31SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 21:32SPEAKER_25: Totally.
- 21:32SPEAKER_25: So maybe we just got pretty hung up on that movie.
- 21:35SPEAKER_25: I don't know.
- 21:35SPEAKER_25: But uh, can you blame us?
- 21:37SPEAKER_25: I mean, it was awesome.
- 21:37SPEAKER_25: No, it was awesome.
- 21:38SPEAKER_25: Still an awesome movie.
- 21:39SPEAKER_25: Do you hold that the second movie is almost better than the first?
- 21:49SPEAKER_18: I would say it is better than the first.
- 21:51SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 21:52SPEAKER_18: Only only because the action is better.
- 21:54SPEAKER_25: A lot of people have said that.
- 21:55SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 21:55SPEAKER_25: Um, and that you don't have to see the first to appreciate.
- 22:00SPEAKER_18: Oh you can you can enjoy them separately.
- 22:01SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 22:02SPEAKER_18: But I I like the second one better just because the action is so much more realistic.
- 22:07SPEAKER_25: It's essentially the same movie.
- 22:08SPEAKER_25: I mean it's Oh, it is the same movie.
- 22:10SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 22:10SPEAKER_18: I mean, you know, you know, bas you know you know what basically what's gonna happen.
- 22:14SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 22:14SPEAKER_18: But it's still awesome.
- 22:16SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 22:16SPEAKER_25: It was it was awesome, yeah.
- 22:18SPEAKER_25: I yeah.
- 22:19SPEAKER_25: Um yeah.
- 22:21SPEAKER_18: I mean you can't you can't you can't make another one.
- 22:24SPEAKER_25: Oh no, no.
- 22:25SPEAKER_18: If you make another one, it's gotta be Yeah.
- 22:27SPEAKER_18: It's gotta be Miles Teller.
- 22:28SPEAKER_25: It's gotta be Miles Teller or or like a Well, actually you can't because he's not a pilot.
- 22:32SPEAKER_25: So that's right.
- 22:34SPEAKER_25: He's just a backstage.
- 22:35SPEAKER_25: You can't make another one.
- 22:35SPEAKER_18: You can't make a I don't know that you can make a Top Gun without Tom Cruise.
- 22:38SPEAKER_18: You can't really.
- 22:39SPEAKER_18: I mean, they they finally finished up the Mission Impossible movies after what, seven of them?
- 22:44SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 22:45SPEAKER_18: And he's still doing his own stunts.
- 22:47SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 22:47SPEAKER_18: I mean, I don't know what's going on in Scientology, but I mean, he must be like channeling the spirit of L.
- 22:54SPEAKER_18: Ron Hubbard or something.
- 22:55SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 22:55SPEAKER_18: I don't know.
- 22:56SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 22:56SPEAKER_18: You know, demonic you know, forces are inside there.
- 23:00SPEAKER_25: Something.
- 23:00SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 23:01SPEAKER_25: I don't know.
- 23:02SPEAKER_25: Um all right.
- 23:04SPEAKER_25: So we'll play some uh Beach Boys music towards the end of the episode.
- 23:07SPEAKER_25: So we'll we'll dive into our um wall of tunes there.
- 23:11SPEAKER_25: Uh I got a couple of new tunes and then I have a topic.
- 23:14SPEAKER_25: Alright.
- 23:15SPEAKER_25: Okay.
- 23:15SPEAKER_25: So the first new tune is a collaboration between the three Beatles sons.
- 23:23SPEAKER_25: Have you heard it yet?
- 23:24SPEAKER_18: I have not.
- 23:25SPEAKER_25: Okay, so we're talking Zach Starkey, Ringo Star's son.
- 23:30SPEAKER_18: Not that he lost his job.
- 23:32SPEAKER_25: Yeah, right.
- 23:32SPEAKER_25: I know.
- 23:33SPEAKER_18: Who is he drumming for again?
- 23:34SPEAKER_25: He was drumming for the Who.
- 23:35SPEAKER_25: Yeah, the Who, yeah.
- 23:36SPEAKER_25: And he also being fired from the Who twice, I read a headline.
- 23:40SPEAKER_25: I haven't read the story.
- 23:42SPEAKER_18: I know Mike Portnoy was freaked out.
- 23:44SPEAKER_18: Uh, because they fired Zach Zach Starkey and then uh uh Josh Freeze and they kicked him out of Foo Fighters, and Mike Portnoy is like, holy crap, man.
- 23:54SPEAKER_18: Am I next?
- 23:55SPEAKER_18: Yeah, you know.
- 23:56SPEAKER_25: So Um I read the he headline here because it says Zack Starkey says the Who double firing lost him the Oasis role.
- 24:05SPEAKER_25: I didn't even know he was up for the Oasis role.
- 24:07SPEAKER_18: Well, I think he dodged a bullet there.
- 24:09SPEAKER_25: Yeah, right.
- 24:10SPEAKER_25: So uh Zack Starkey said his commitment to the Who meant he refused to be part of the Oasis Reunion only to wind up without either position.
- 24:18SPEAKER_18: Uh yeah, I think he I think he dodged a bullet.
- 24:20SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I think that's probably true.
- 24:22SPEAKER_18: I think he's probably better off.
- 24:23SPEAKER_25: That's probably true.
- 24:24SPEAKER_18: Of course, I mean, you know, you're missing out on a tour and paycheck, but I'm sure he'll find a job.
- 24:29SPEAKER_18: I'm sure he'll too.
- 24:30unknown: Yeah.
- 24:30SPEAKER_25: Um, so Zach Starkey, Ringo Star son, uh James McCartney, son of Paul McCartney, and Sean Ona Lennon, son of John Lennon.
- 24:40SPEAKER_25: Sean Lennon?
- 24:41SPEAKER_18: Sean Lennon, yeah.
- 24:42SPEAKER_18: What about um George's son?
- 24:44SPEAKER_18: Donnie.
- 24:45SPEAKER_25: Nope.
- 24:46SPEAKER_25: No?
- 24:46SPEAKER_25: Nope.
- 24:47SPEAKER_25: He's not in this one anyway.
- 24:48SPEAKER_25: Okay.
- 24:49SPEAKER_25: Um they've joined forces for a new song called Ripoff.
- 24:54SPEAKER_25: Uh the tr the track is by Mantra of the Cosmos.
- 25:01SPEAKER_25: It's a band that they started a couple years ago.
- 25:04SPEAKER_25: Um it says it's like uh uh Zack Starkey, it's like Mantra of the Cosmos with them in it.
- 25:12SPEAKER_25: Um so Zach Starkey star started this band, and so he's got James O'Cartney and Sean Lennon in this particular song.
- 25:20SPEAKER_25: The full song has yet to be officially released, uh, but Starkey shared a lengthy portion of it on his social media, so that's what we're going to listen to.
- 25:28SPEAKER_25: So this is a snippet of Rip Off, if I can get to the Instagram page here, which is uh oh now it's asking me to log in.
- 25:40SPEAKER_25: Do I have to?
- 25:41SPEAKER_25: No, I don't.
- 26:50SPEAKER_25: I don't know how to feel about it.
- 26:55SPEAKER_18: I mean, it would have fit in if George had lived.
- 26:59SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 27:00SPEAKER_18: It's got that Eastern mysticism mysticism.
- 27:04SPEAKER_18: There's a very Lenin-esque in there as well.
- 27:07SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 27:08SPEAKER_18: Um Cross the Universe and married it with uh uh Tomorrow Never Knows.
- 27:16SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 27:17SPEAKER_25: Okay, I get that.
- 27:18SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 27:19SPEAKER_25: Very avant garde.
- 27:22SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 27:25SPEAKER_25: Do you think they're trying too hard to be the Beatles?
- 27:29SPEAKER_25: Or do you sound like the Beatles?
- 27:31SPEAKER_18: I think they're capitalizing on it.
- 27:33SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 27:35SPEAKER_18: Because really that's all they can do.
- 27:40SPEAKER_18: I mean, you can't be the Beatles again.
- 27:42SPEAKER_25: No.
- 27:43SPEAKER_18: And even, you know, they are direct descendants of you know, that bloodline.
- 27:48SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 27:48SPEAKER_18: Um they're never gonna replicate the success of their dads.
- 27:53SPEAKER_25: But I suppose it's also hard to get away from it.
- 27:55SPEAKER_18: Yeah, and that too.
- 27:56SPEAKER_18: I mean, I I can see them embracing it, but at the same time, I don't really want them to.
- 28:02SPEAKER_18: I want them to do their own thing.
- 28:04SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 28:05SPEAKER_18: You know, I would respect that more.
- 28:07SPEAKER_25: But maybe their own thing.
- 28:08SPEAKER_18: Maybe that is their own thing.
- 28:09SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I don't know.
- 28:10SPEAKER_25: Maybe it's so ingrained in them that they if any creative uh juices that they use are you know derivative.
- 28:21SPEAKER_18: No, yeah.
- 28:22SPEAKER_18: I mean, what do you expect of it?
- 28:23SPEAKER_18: Exactly.
- 28:24SPEAKER_18: You know, you can't you can't get away from it.
- 28:25SPEAKER_25: I don't know.
- 28:26SPEAKER_25: It's not my thing.
- 28:27SPEAKER_18: It's uh I don't really care for it, to be honest with you.
- 28:30SPEAKER_18: You know, I I was hoping for something more substantial.
- 28:34SPEAKER_25: Yeah, like a song.
- 28:35SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 28:36SPEAKER_18: That that basic that that basically was a mantra.
- 28:39SPEAKER_25: It was a mantra.
- 28:40SPEAKER_18: You know what I mean?
- 28:41SPEAKER_18: I mean, it was just the same thing over and over and over and over and over again.
- 28:44SPEAKER_18: I mean, that was if that's the entire song, then count me out, man.
- 28:48SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 28:48SPEAKER_25: You know, yeah.
- 28:50SPEAKER_25: Um all right, so this other collaboration that's kind of neat and I think you'll appreciate.
- 28:56SPEAKER_25: Um have you ever heard there's a there's a uh I see the synchronicity album?
- 29:00SPEAKER_25: Yep, there's a there's an album cut from Synchronicity called Murder by Numbers.
- 29:04SPEAKER_25: Have you ever heard that song?
- 29:04SPEAKER_25: I think I have.
- 29:05SPEAKER_25: Uh well, if you haven't, we're gonna play a little bit of it.
- 29:08SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 29:13SPEAKER_18: Stuart Copeland's sick drummer.
- 29:16SPEAKER_17: Love that guy.
- 30:16SPEAKER_25: You know, I used to have a hard time with Sting.
- 30:19SPEAKER_25: Um He is an acquired taste.
- 30:21SPEAKER_25: He is but I so talented.
- 30:23SPEAKER_25: Oh, not for God about that.
- 30:25SPEAKER_25: His his lyrics and his I mean I always thought it was very a little pretentious, you know.
- 30:30SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 30:31SPEAKER_18: I mean he's I mean he thinks he's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
- 30:34SPEAKER_18: You know.
- 30:35SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 30:35SPEAKER_25: Just ask him.
- 30:36SPEAKER_25: But even his voice, I mean, even his I love his voice, but uh it's unique.
- 30:41SPEAKER_18: I mean, you you know it's Sting as soon as you hear a song, you know.
- 30:45SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 30:45SPEAKER_25: Here's the reason I played that is because and that's the you see hear all the jazz chords in that.
- 30:49SPEAKER_17: Oh, yeah, well, I mean it's Stuart Copeland.
- 30:51SPEAKER_17: Yeah.
- 30:53SPEAKER_25: So Sting and Andy Summers from the police have reunited to re-record a police song.
- 31:00SPEAKER_25: Really?
- 31:01SPEAKER_25: Um, and it's for a jazz artist.
- 31:06SPEAKER_25: Um, let's see.
- 31:08SPEAKER_25: Christian McBride.
- 31:09SPEAKER_17: Oh, I love Christian McBride.
- 31:11SPEAKER_17: That dude is awesome.
- 31:12SPEAKER_25: Okay, so Christian McBride uh just put out an album called Without Further.
- 31:17SPEAKER_25: Oh no, it's coming out in August.
- 31:19SPEAKER_25: Without further ado, volume one.
- 31:22SPEAKER_25: Comes out August 29th, and he does Murder by Numbers, and he recruited Sting and Andy Summers.
- 31:29SPEAKER_25: That makes sense.
- 31:30SPEAKER_18: Because Christian McBride is a sick bassist.
- 31:34SPEAKER_18: I mean, that dude is awesome.
- 31:36SPEAKER_25: So you're gonna love this.
- 31:37SPEAKER_25: I probably am.
- 31:38SPEAKER_25: I mean, the original song is quite jazzy anyway.
- 31:42SPEAKER_25: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 31:42SPEAKER_25: Yeah, and you know, Sting is an has an affinity for jazz as well.
- 31:45SPEAKER_13: So let's let's take a listen to this Once that you decided on the killing.
- 32:13SPEAKER_13: First you make a stone of your heart.
- 32:18SPEAKER_13: And if you find that your hands are still winning You can turn a murder into art But that really is And he's singing it lower, I almost like it better this year.
- 32:33SPEAKER_11: Just do it with a little bit of a beat.
- 33:11SPEAKER_18: I like it better than the original.
- 33:12SPEAKER_18: Me too.
- 33:12SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 33:12SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I was just gonna say that.
- 33:14SPEAKER_18: And I'm not a Christian arranged this, I can tell.
- 33:17SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 33:18SPEAKER_18: He totally arranged this.
- 33:19SPEAKER_25: Yeah, and I'm not I'm not as big a jazz aficionado as aficionado as you are, but I can dig this.
- 33:25SPEAKER_25: I think this is I'm just gonna do it.
- 33:26SPEAKER_18: Yeah, this is this is straight up G.
- 33:28SPEAKER_18: Yeah, it this is great, man.
- 33:29SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 33:30SPEAKER_25: Um Christian McBride, big band.
- 33:33SPEAKER_25: Um and once again, the album is called Without Further Ado, Volume 1.
- 33:38SPEAKER_25: Comes out August 29th.
- 33:40SPEAKER_18: Yeah, Christian McBride has a really great uh show on uh Sirius XM that I listened to quite a bit.
- 33:46SPEAKER_18: Yeah, and he interviews different people.
- 33:48SPEAKER_18: He he he that was the show I was listening to when I heard him interview Ray Parker when Ray Parker took Stevie Wonder out driving.
- 33:58SPEAKER_18: That's that's where I heard that story, and Christian McBride was just cracking up.
- 34:02SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 34:03SPEAKER_18: So I mean, but I I love that guy.
- 34:05SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I love that.
- 34:06SPEAKER_18: I love Christian McBride so much.
- 34:08SPEAKER_18: He's just such a cool guy, and he's an amazing bassist, amazing musician.
- 34:13SPEAKER_18: Yeah, you know, so so I I'm really happy about this.
- 34:16SPEAKER_25: Um while we're on the Sting train, um we talked about Brian Wilson.
- 34:23SPEAKER_25: I want to play you, and I haven't I haven't listened to this, I think it's probably phenomenal.
- 34:28SPEAKER_25: Um but he did a com Sting did a concert in Germany w last Wednesday.
- 34:34SPEAKER_25: Um and of course Brian Wilson had just died.
- 34:37SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 34:38SPEAKER_25: And so he did a version of one of my favorite, probably probably my favorite Beach Boy song.
- 34:47SPEAKER_25: Uh God only knows.
- 34:49SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah.
- 34:49SPEAKER_25: So let's see what it is.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, I saw this.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: Brian Wilson from The Beach Boys is gonna happen.
- 34:59SPEAKER_01: So I wanna sing a song that I love.
- 35:04SPEAKER_10: But again, the talent is I may not always love you as long as there are stars above you that you need never doubt it.
- 35:22SPEAKER_10: I'll make you so sure about it.
- 35:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah, boy, I could still sing Oh yeah.
- 35:27SPEAKER_25: No doubt he's gotta be close to seventy, right?
- 35:30SPEAKER_25: Or is he gotta be over seventy?
- 35:32SPEAKER_10: Ah, he's gotta be.
- 35:34SPEAKER_25: If you should ever be go outside this, I'm gonna lose this.
- 35:39SPEAKER_25: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:42SPEAKER_10: The world would show nothing to me.
- 35:46SPEAKER_10: So what good would live into me?
- 35:50SPEAKER_18: God only knows what I'd be wrong with this song alone.
- 35:55SPEAKER_18: I mean.
- 35:55SPEAKER_18: This song is one of my favorite Beach Boys of all time.
- 35:59SPEAKER_10: God only knows what I'd be without you.
- 36:03SPEAKER_25: Yeah, we'll we'll we'll we'll listen to more Beach Boys as uh as we go on.
- 36:08SPEAKER_25: But here's the uh topic that I wanted to to talk about.
- 36:11SPEAKER_25: And we've talked about Oh boy! Topics! We've talked about this before, I think.
- 36:16SPEAKER_25: Maybe not even.
- 36:18SPEAKER_25: Maybe not toppings.
- 36:20SPEAKER_25: Oh right.
- 36:21SPEAKER_25: Um maybe not in this way.
- 36:25SPEAKER_25: Thirty covers that became bigger than the originals.
- 36:28SPEAKER_25: I think we've talked about covers that we thought were better than the originals.
- 36:33SPEAKER_18: I think yeah, I think that was all uh something like subjectively, yes.
- 36:36SPEAKER_25: And and this be these are these actually did better uh on the charts and uh public reception was was b was better.
- 36:46SPEAKER_25: And some of these will sound familiar.
- 36:47SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 36:48SPEAKER_25: Case in point, all along the watchtower.
- 36:49SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 36:50SPEAKER_18: That's way better than the original.
- 36:52SPEAKER_25: Um I do want to you know, and this is courtesy of ultimate classicrock.com, which we source for a lot of our material, but um I will say that I think that they should have done this post a little differently because they s they do all along the watchtower from Jimi Hendrix and then they show Jimi Hendrix's version, but they don't show the original Bob Dylan version.
- 37:13SPEAKER_25: I would I would love to Yeah, it would trash and uh contrast and compare.
- 37:17SPEAKER_25: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:18SPEAKER_25: Um but everybody's familiar with Jimi Hendrix's version of All Along the Watchtower.
- 37:23SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I don't think as many people are as familiar with uh Dylan's version.
- 37:26SPEAKER_25: Um so that's what I kind of I kind of wanted to do, not for all 30 of them.
- 37:31SPEAKER_18: No, because we'd be here till tomorrow.
- 37:33SPEAKER_25: Exactly.
- 37:33SPEAKER_25: You know, but um not that I wouldn't mind.
- 37:36SPEAKER_18: Oh, I know my schedule's pretty wide open.
- 37:38SPEAKER_18: So but let's well we do have rehearsal tomorrow night, so we we gotta be done by then.
- 37:43SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 37:46SPEAKER_25: But the story goes that oh no, that was the Sergeant Pepper story.
- 37:53SPEAKER_25: Never mind.
- 38:10SPEAKER_25: That's all I'll I'll play off.
- 38:12SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 38:12SPEAKER_25: Because I mean, everybody knows everybody knows Hendricks.
- 38:17SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 38:34SPEAKER_11: That must have been some kind of way out of the room.
- 38:37SPEAKER_18: And then the uh Okay, before I forget, yeah while we're on Jimi Hendrix, yeah.
- 38:41SPEAKER_18: I was watching, we were talking about reaction videos earlier, yeah.
- 38:44SPEAKER_18: I was watching somebody react to Stevie Ray Vaughn doing uh Voodoo Chow on Boston City Limits.
- 38:50SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 38:50SPEAKER_18: Somebody in the comment section put down that he actually went to Jimmy's family and asked permission to do that song, and they gave him Jimmy's Wah pedal.
- 39:04SPEAKER_18: According to the Stevie Ray?
- 39:05SPEAKER_18: Gave it to Stevie Ray when he wanted to do voodoo chow.
- 39:10SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 39:10SPEAKER_25: Interesting.
- 39:11SPEAKER_18: I don't know how true that is.
- 39:12SPEAKER_18: I mean, because this is just somebody that commented on you know somebody's reaction video, but I was like, wow, if that's true, that's really interesting.
- 39:20SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I don't know why it wouldn't be true.
- 39:22SPEAKER_18: I mean it totally could be.
- 39:23SPEAKER_18: I I just I've never I never heard that story.
- 39:26SPEAKER_18: You know, and I've heard a lot of Stevie Ray's stories.
- 39:29SPEAKER_18: Right.
- 39:29SPEAKER_25: So here's another example of a song that was a black magic woman.
- 39:41SPEAKER_25: This is Fleetwood Mac.
- 39:44SPEAKER_25: Peter Green.
- 39:45SPEAKER_25: This is the Peter Green wrote it.
- 39:52SPEAKER_25: Which is still a great bluesy version.
- 39:54SPEAKER_25: I like this version.
- 40:04SPEAKER_25: Okay, but then of course, the one that everybody knows is this one.
- 40:44SPEAKER_25: Oh I forgot that this one is a really long intro.
- 40:48SPEAKER_25: But anyway, it's Santana's version of Black Magic Woman, which was huge.
- 40:52SPEAKER_25: Oh, yeah.
- 40:53SPEAKER_25: Blinded by the Light, Man for Man's Earth Band was originally done by Bruce Springsteen.
- 40:57SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 40:57SPEAKER_25: He wrote it.
- 40:58SPEAKER_25: I'm not gonna play that one, but uh wrapped up like a douche.
- 41:01SPEAKER_25: Black like a douche.
- 41:02SPEAKER_25: It's douche, but you know what?
- 41:03SPEAKER_17: I know it sounds so every time I hear it, I'm like, God, are you sure it's not douche?
- 41:10SPEAKER_17: Right.
- 41:11SPEAKER_17: All right, so this one JJ Kale.
- 41:18SPEAKER_25: And obviously, you know this one from Eric Clapton.
- 41:22SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 41:22SPEAKER_25: Clapton did a lot of JJ Kale, actually.
- 41:25SPEAKER_25: After midnight was JJ Cale.
- 41:27SPEAKER_18: Yep.
- 41:27SPEAKER_25: Uh Leonard Skinner um Call Me the Breeze.
- 41:31SPEAKER_25: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 41:32SPEAKER_25: That's JJ Kale.
- 41:33SPEAKER_22: I didn't know that.
- 41:33unknown: Take the cocaine.
- 41:36SPEAKER_25: So this is the original version.
- 41:39SPEAKER_25: But yes, the Eric Clapton version did did obviously uh break that wide open.
- 41:44SPEAKER_25: Oh, yeah.
- 41:45SPEAKER_25: Dancing in the Moonlight.
- 41:46SPEAKER_25: I did not know this.
- 41:47SPEAKER_25: Dancing in the Moonlight by King Harvest, which you know the Syndicate does.
- 41:53SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 41:54SPEAKER_25: And I hate that song.
- 41:56SPEAKER_25: I do.
- 41:57SPEAKER_25: And and Chris, if you're listening, I know you I think you know that I don't.
- 42:01SPEAKER_25: Whenever you ask me to make a set list, I conveniently leave this one off.
- 42:05SPEAKER_18: Oh, I forgot that one.
- 42:06SPEAKER_25: Just like John, you know, doesn't like certain songs.
- 42:09SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 42:09unknown: Yeah.
- 42:10SPEAKER_25: You know.
- 42:11SPEAKER_25: Um I I don't know what it is about this song.
- 42:14SPEAKER_25: Um, I don't hate it.
- 42:18SPEAKER_25: It's just not your favorite.
- 42:19SPEAKER_25: It's not my favorite.
- 42:19SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 42:20SPEAKER_25: It's not my favorite.
- 42:20SPEAKER_25: I totally get that.
- 42:21SPEAKER_25: But this was originally done by a band um called Buffalongo.
- 42:27SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah.
- 42:28SPEAKER_25: Yeah, they were it's kind of a No, I actually don't know anymore.
- 42:31SPEAKER_25: Um it's about an assault by a gang that took place on the Caribbean island of St.
- 42:36SPEAKER_25: Croix, which I did not know.
- 42:38SPEAKER_25: Uh Downtown Train, Rod Stewart.
- 42:40SPEAKER_25: Did you know that was a cover?
- 42:41SPEAKER_18: I did not know that.
- 42:42SPEAKER_25: I don't, I'm not even sure I know that song.
- 42:44SPEAKER_25: I knew it was a cover.
- 42:44SPEAKER_25: Yeah, you wouldn't.
- 42:45SPEAKER_25: Well, I'll play it for you.
- 42:46SPEAKER_25: Well, I knew it was a cover.
- 42:47SPEAKER_25: Uh to be honest with you, I no, that's not true, because I did know uh I did hear the original version.
- 42:56SPEAKER_25: Now the original version is by the unique artist Tom Waits.
- 43:02SPEAKER_18: Oh, well, this is gonna be definitely interesting.
- 43:04SPEAKER_25: So here's the original.
- 43:06SPEAKER_26: Action.
- 43:07SPEAKER_26: Hey Jay, it's a full movie.
- 43:09SPEAKER_25: Oh this isn't it?
- 43:11SPEAKER_25: Let me let me Okay, so Tom Waits is an interesting fellow.
- 43:15SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah.
- 43:25SPEAKER_25: Genius songwriter.
- 43:26SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah.
- 43:34SPEAKER_26: I climb to the window and down to the street.
- 43:39SPEAKER_26: I'm shining like a new dime.
- 43:43SPEAKER_26: Downtown trends a fool.
- 43:46SPEAKER_25: Does it sound familiar at all?
- 43:47SPEAKER_18: A little bit.
- 43:49SPEAKER_18: I just can't remember Rod Stewart doing this.
- 43:51SPEAKER_25: Oh, yeah, he had a he actually had a quite a big hit with it.
- 43:55SPEAKER_18: It must sound completely different.
- 43:57SPEAKER_25: Oh, it does.
- 44:01SPEAKER_18: Oh.
- 44:02SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 44:03SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 44:04SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 44:04SPEAKER_18: It's a great song.
- 44:11SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I never would have guessed this was a Tom White song.
- 44:15SPEAKER_25: Because he's actually Well he can actually say.
- 44:20SPEAKER_18: And you know Tom White can too.
- 44:21SPEAKER_18: Oh no, he can.
- 44:22SPEAKER_18: He just I think he chooses not to.
- 44:23SPEAKER_18: He chooses not to.
- 44:24SPEAKER_18: It's like Bob Dylan.
- 44:25SPEAKER_18: Exactly.
- 44:26SPEAKER_18: I was just gonna say it's just like Bob Dylan.
- 44:52SPEAKER_25: Catch on fire.
- 44:57SPEAKER_18: Garbage cans with fire coming out of them like they show in all the movies.
- 45:00SPEAKER_18: Well, if things set cars on fire in Los Angeles, why can't you set a barrel on fire out here?
- 45:05SPEAKER_18: I suppose.
- 45:09SPEAKER_18: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_18: I never would have put the two together.
- 45:13SPEAKER_18: Oh me.
- 45:14SPEAKER_25: I never would have put the two together.
- 45:15SPEAKER_25: Me either.
- 45:15SPEAKER_25: Everybody's talking from Harry Nielsen was actually a cover by a folk artist.
- 45:20SPEAKER_25: Uh actually the original was by a folk artist named Fred Neil.
- 45:24SPEAKER_25: I had not heard that song.
- 45:25SPEAKER_25: Here's one that really confused me.
- 45:27SPEAKER_25: Um I thought.
- 45:31SPEAKER_25: Let's see.
- 45:32SPEAKER_25: I don't know if there's an actual version of this.
- 45:40SPEAKER_25: I didn't know this was a cover.
- 46:09SPEAKER_18: Oh, those girls want to have fun, yeah.
- 46:12SPEAKER_18: I think I heard this somewhere.
- 46:14SPEAKER_18: Did you?
- 46:14SPEAKER_18: I think I did.
- 46:15SPEAKER_18: I don't I don't I think it might have been Professor of Rock.
- 46:19SPEAKER_18: Yeah, maybe.
- 46:20SPEAKER_18: On that channel, I think he was talking about it.
- 46:22SPEAKER_25: This is a guy named Robert Hazard.
- 46:27SPEAKER_25: And she changed she changed a lot of the lyrics.
- 46:30SPEAKER_25: Yeah, obviously, but uh obviously this is the one we all know.
- 46:33SPEAKER_18: Uh from Captain Luke.
- 46:39SPEAKER_18: Yeah, you would you never would have guessed.
- 46:40SPEAKER_18: Never would have guessed.
- 46:41SPEAKER_18: Never would have guessed.
- 46:41SPEAKER_25: Never would have guessed.
- 46:42SPEAKER_25: We knew that Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah was originally done by the writer Leonard Cohen.
- 46:47SPEAKER_25: Yes.
- 46:47SPEAKER_18: And I actually I actually prefer Lenin Cohen.
- 46:52SPEAKER_25: He pretty much talks through the whole thing.
- 46:53SPEAKER_18: Yeah, he doesn't really sing it, but I I I don't know.
- 46:56SPEAKER_18: I I think I just like that strange you know, way way if he hemmed the mini memor.
- 47:03SPEAKER_25: I know what you meant.
- 47:04SPEAKER_18: Okay, thank you.
- 47:05SPEAKER_25: Uh Elvis Presley's Hound Dog, we knew that was Big Mama Thornton.
- 47:07SPEAKER_25: Big Mama Thornton.
- 47:08SPEAKER_25: Yep.
- 47:09SPEAKER_25: Um I fought the law from the clash, we knew that was Buddy Holly and the Crickets.
- 47:12SPEAKER_25: Not not the Buddy Holly and the Crickets, it was the crickets.
- 47:15SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 47:15SPEAKER_25: Right?
- 47:15SPEAKER_18: I think it was just the crickets.
- 47:16SPEAKER_18: I don't like Buddy Holly anymore.
- 47:18SPEAKER_25: Yeah, he wasn't.
- 47:19SPEAKER_25: Uh I heard it through the great brand Marvin Gay was originally by Gladys Knight and the Pips.
- 47:23SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 47:23SPEAKER_25: I thought Marvin Gaye did it first.
- 47:25SPEAKER_25: Nope.
- 47:25SPEAKER_25: Yeah, what's it?
- 47:26SPEAKER_25: No, he got it from Gladys Knight and Captain.
- 47:27SPEAKER_25: I did not know that.
- 47:28SPEAKER_25: I thought it was the other way around.
- 47:29SPEAKER_25: Uh Joan Jet and the Blackhearts, I love Rock and Roll.
- 47:31SPEAKER_25: The Arrows did the original version of that.
- 47:33SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I think I remember hearing it.
- 47:35SPEAKER_25: And it sounds almost the same.
- 47:36SPEAKER_18: Yeah, well, I mean, Joan Jet's totally punk.
- 47:39SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 47:39SPEAKER_25: So I mean, yeah.
- 47:40SPEAKER_18: I think I think that's a throwback from the runaways.
- 47:42SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 47:43SPEAKER_18: You know.
- 47:43SPEAKER_25: Um, did you know that this was a cover?
- 47:47SPEAKER_25: Because I didn't.
- 47:50SPEAKER_25: Um I bet you did because you're a Beatles guy.
- 48:11SPEAKER_18: Actually, I did not.
- 48:12SPEAKER_25: This is James Ray.
- 48:15SPEAKER_25: And he had the original version of this in 1962 that George Harrison redid for his uh album in 1987.
- 48:25SPEAKER_25: Cloud 6.
- 48:25SPEAKER_25: Cloud 9.
- 48:26SPEAKER_25: Cloud 9.
- 48:26SPEAKER_25: Cloud 9.
- 48:27SPEAKER_18: Uh I had I had a backwards.
- 48:29SPEAKER_25: The parts got down, the song that everybody everybody knows.
- 48:39SPEAKER_25: Which Jeff Lynn's production.
- 48:42SPEAKER_25: You know?
- 48:42SPEAKER_03: I got my monster.
- 48:45SPEAKER_25: It's basically ELO with George Harrison.
- 48:48SPEAKER_18: I mean, when this song came out, it annoyed the crap out of me.
- 48:52SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 48:53SPEAKER_18: Because they played it constantly.
- 48:55SPEAKER_18: I mean, I appreciated now.
- 48:57SPEAKER_25: Radio does that.
- 48:58SPEAKER_18: Yeah, but I mean, back in the day, though, I was just like, oh, not this song of good.
- 49:02SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 49:02SPEAKER_25: Uh Let's Stick Together, Brian Ferry, which I don't even know this song, but it was originally done by Wilbert Harris Wilbert Harrison, who had a big hit with Kansas City.
- 49:11SPEAKER_25: Okay.
- 49:11SPEAKER_25: Uh, I don't know this song, so I'm just gonna play it.
- 49:24SPEAKER_25: Apparently, Canned Heat did a version of this too.
- 49:36SPEAKER_07: And now the man draw is very sacred.
- 49:40SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I don't even know the song.
- 49:41SPEAKER_25: I don't even know that song.
- 49:42SPEAKER_25: I don't even know the song.
- 49:43SPEAKER_25: Uh here's another Bob Dylan one that was a big hit for both for um two people, actually.
- 49:51SPEAKER_25: One more than the other.
- 49:53SPEAKER_25: But this version was on his Time Out of Mind album.
- 49:57SPEAKER_25: When the rain is blue, it is a little bit more than a little bit.
- 50:00SPEAKER_18: Oh, uh um Shameless.
- 50:05SPEAKER_25: Garth, Garth Brooks?
- 50:06SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 50:06SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 50:07SPEAKER_25: This isn't shameless.
- 50:08SPEAKER_25: This is Make You Feel My Love.
- 50:09SPEAKER_18: Make You Feel My Love.
- 50:10SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 50:10SPEAKER_18: What was I thinking?
- 50:11SPEAKER_25: You sh he did a version of the Billy Joel didn't have a name.
- 50:15SPEAKER_25: But this was uh originally written and performed by Bob Dylan.
- 50:18SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 50:20SPEAKER_25: And then Garth Brooks did a version of it.
- 50:22SPEAKER_18: Yeah, and Billy Joel also did a version of it.
- 50:24SPEAKER_25: Not of this.
- 50:24SPEAKER_25: Oh yes he did.

- 56:09SPEAKER_25: Um from the Woodstock album.
- 56:11SPEAKER_25: And that's all I have for this list.
- 56:14SPEAKER_25: Um Do you like the Beatles version better than Joe Cocker, or do you like Joe Cocker's version?
- 56:19SPEAKER_18: I like Joe Cocker's version.

- 56:25SPEAKER_25: 30 covers that became bigger than the originals.
- 56:28SPEAKER_25: That's that's the kind of the way we think.
- 56:31SPEAKER_25: That's the way it goes.
- 56:32SPEAKER_25: That's the way it goes.
- 56:33SPEAKER_25: That's the way the cookie crumbles.
- 56:35SPEAKER_25: Um right here now.
- 56:44SPEAKER_25: It's about that time.
- 56:46SPEAKER_24: Um about that time.
- 56:53SPEAKER_24: It's about that.
- 56:55SPEAKER_24: It's about that time.
- 56:57SPEAKER_24: It's about that time.
- 56:58SPEAKER_24: It's about that time.
- 57:01SPEAKER_24: Oh, there it is.
- 57:01SPEAKER_24: It's about that time.
- 57:12SPEAKER_25: I have a feeling that either you or cousin Larry are gonna have the same answer as I do.
- 57:24SPEAKER_18: I don't think so.
- 57:25SPEAKER_25: You don't think so?
- 57:26SPEAKER_25: No.
- 57:27SPEAKER_18: Well, I know mean cousin Larry don't have the same one.
- 57:30SPEAKER_25: Okay, well.
- 57:31SPEAKER_18: So it might be one it might be you and Cousin Larry.
- 57:34SPEAKER_25: But you don't think because you you went somewhere else.
- 57:37SPEAKER_18: Yeah, it's definitely not.
- 57:38SPEAKER_25: Alright, so what's the question?
- 57:39SPEAKER_18: The question was Past is the uh favorite song from a movie soundtrack.
- 57:44SPEAKER_25: Oh wait, wait, okay.
- 57:46SPEAKER_25: The past one, right?
- 57:47SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I forgot.
- 57:48SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 57:52SPEAKER_18: No AI, I don't want to talk to you right now.
- 57:57SPEAKER_18: Okay, so this is what lovely judge said.
- 58:07SPEAKER_18: Uh this week was almost no contest.
- 58:11SPEAKER_18: I love the Phantom of the Opera.
- 58:14SPEAKER_18: All renditions of the movie the music.
- 58:15SPEAKER_18: I love I love Gerard Butler's version, but Jonathan Young's metal cover is still pretty taught-notch, so.
- 58:22SPEAKER_25: Um, I gotta tell you, hold on.
- 58:25SPEAKER_25: Um I got a uh message from Cousin Larry.
- 58:30SPEAKER_25: Oh, okay.
- 58:31SPEAKER_25: Um is it?
- 58:36SPEAKER_25: There it is.
- 58:39SPEAKER_25: This is this is from Cousin Larry uh last week.
- 58:43SPEAKER_25: Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 58:47SPEAKER_25: I hate musicals too.
- 58:50SPEAKER_25: I'm glad someone shares my opinion.
- 58:53SPEAKER_25: Yes, Greece is good, but that's it.
- 58:56SPEAKER_17: Laugh out loud.
- 58:58SPEAKER_25: Then he said, obviously, listen to the podcast.
- 59:00SPEAKER_25: I love Van Morrison, excellent wall of tunes.
- 59:02SPEAKER_25: Nice.
- 59:03SPEAKER_25: So at least somebody shares in my you know, it's not I don't have a disdain for musicals.
- 59:12SPEAKER_25: I just they're not my thing.
- 59:13SPEAKER_18: Yeah, that's that's you know.
- 59:15SPEAKER_18: Yeah, just like country music's not my thing.
- 59:17SPEAKER_18: Right, exactly.
- 59:18SPEAKER_25: You know, but you can appreciate certain things.
- 59:19SPEAKER_18: I appreciate it, yeah, yeah.
- 59:20SPEAKER_25: Yeah, so okay, so present.
- 59:23SPEAKER_18: Prozent.
- 59:26SPEAKER_18: So the question was a million miles and counting.
- 59:29SPEAKER_18: What song do you play as you're pulling your 18-wheeler onto the interstate for one last leg across the USA?
- 59:36SPEAKER_18: Okay, so this is what cousin Larry said.
- 59:39SPEAKER_18: I always feel bad when I have to get a hold of him because I feel like I'm annoying him.
- 59:44SPEAKER_18: But uh.
- 59:47SPEAKER_18: But I think with the time difference between us and him, yeah, he's still at work and I don't know why.
- 59:51SPEAKER_18: So Okay.
- 59:54SPEAKER_18: Mixtape.
- 59:55SPEAKER_18: My first thought was Driving My Life Away by A Rabbit.
- 59:58SPEAKER_18: I know Aunt Betty would love that pick if she was the judge.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_18: A ton of country songs out there about trucking, so I thought about I thought I would go with Six Days on the Road by Dave Dudley.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_18: Honorable mention to Tombstone Every Mile by Dick Curlis because he was born in Fort Fairfield.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_07: Uh-huh.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_18: And also to ACDC's Who Made Who from the Maximum Drive soundtrack.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_25: Okay, okay, so what was his?
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_18: Uh Six Days on the Road by Dave Dudley.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_25: Six Days on the Road, Dave Dudley.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_25: I know the song.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_25: I didn't I don't know if I know Dave Dudley's version.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_25: Okay, he didn't pick the same one that I pulled out.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_23: I got Modisha wound up and she's a running like I'll never before.
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_22: There's a speed zone ahead of it, all right.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_22: I don't see a cop inside.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_23: I got my ten forward gears on a George over drive.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_23: All right, what's yours?
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_18: I went a different direction.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_18: I went drive by Incubus.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_18: Really?
- 1:01:14SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:01:14unknown: I'm in a past and everything.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_18: I don't know why.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_18: I just like that song.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_06: Sometimes I feel the fear of the uncertainty stinging clear.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_06: I can't help but ask myself how much I let the fear take the will and tear.
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_25: Yeah, all that way.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_25: I thought we were, yeah.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_06: Whatever brings I'll be there.
- 1:02:29SPEAKER_06: With open arms and open eyes, yeah.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_06: Whatever's tomorrow, brings I'll be there.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_06: I'll be there.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_25: Alright, absolutely.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_25: Interesting choice, but cool.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_25: Um, so I went.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_25: So if this is if this is my last cross-country drive, right, I'm gonna want to get all my trucker friends involved.
- 1:02:56SPEAKER_25: Sure.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_25: Right?
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_25: So I went with CW.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_25: Convoy! Convoy, right?
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_21: Big Ben, come on.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_21: Oh, yeah, 10-4, big pen, for sure, for sure.

- 1:03:56SPEAKER_25: I think this is the remake.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_25: I don't remember the vocals being like that.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_25: I I I don't think that was the original.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_25: Hold on a second.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_25: I just just just for my That's Yeah, here we go.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_25: It's a little different.

- 1:04:33SPEAKER_25: Trucking.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_25: Mother trucking.

- 1:04:35SPEAKER_25: Look at that.
- 1:04:36SPEAKER_18: This is a rubber duck.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_18: Rubber duck.

- 1:04:40SPEAKER_25: Um, good stuff.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_25: So, so convoy from C.W.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_25: McCall is mine.

- 1:04:47SPEAKER_25: Correct.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_25: And Six Days on the Road by Dave Dudley.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_25: Dave Dudley.
- 1:04:51SPEAKER_25: Dave Dudley is cousin Larry's.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_25: All right, so there you go.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_25: What is the future question?
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_25: You got a big smile on your head.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_18: Well, this one was kind of risk-yeah.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 1:05:01SPEAKER_18: Uh, the song you want your significant other to play when he slash C she surprises you with an adult-rated strip tease.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_25: Um Yeah, that'll be worth it.

- 1:07:15SPEAKER_25: We have returned.
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_25: We have returned.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_25: I'm not gonna start the uh Wall of Tunes music because we're gonna do a special tribute to Brian Wilson today.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_18: Oh, Wall of Tunes music?
- 1:07:23SPEAKER_18: That's just silly.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_25: So uh Doug's gonna read from the Beatles book, A Hard Days Right.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_18: Yes, and out of uh respect for the late Greek Brian Wilson, we're gonna do Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_18: Not that he had anything to do with it, but it was inspired.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_18: One of the problems with success was that people had begun to expect so much from the Beatles to deflect this pressure.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_18: Paul came up with the idea of taking on the personal uh persona persona.
- 1:07:54SPEAKER_18: Thank you.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_18: That didn't look like there was a height in there, so I it was like continued on the next page, and I was like, of Sergeant Pepper and his musicians.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_18: As Beatles, they had become self-conscious, but as Lonely Hearts Club Band, they had no expectations to live up to.
- 1:08:10SPEAKER_18: Paul conceived the idea on a flight home to London from Nairobi in November 1966, during early part of this holiday when he was in France.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_18: He had used a disguise to get around and do ordinary things without being spotted.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_18: This had led him to consider how free the Beatles would be if they, as a group, could adopt a disguise.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_18: The aliases, however, were another s never sustained beyond the opening and closing tracks and the segue into A Little Help from My Friends.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_18: Well, Ringo was introduced as Billy Shears.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_18: The plan still helped because it gave the impression that Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band was a concept album.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_18: Quote, the songs, if you listen to them, have no connection at all, George Martin admits.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_18: Paul said, Why don't we make the band Pepper and Ringo Billy Shears?
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_18: Because it gives a nice beginning to the thing.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_18: It wasn't really a concept album album at all.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_18: It was just a question of me trying to make something coherent by doing segues as much as possible.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_18: There you go.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_18: Sergeant Pepper and his band achieved the seemingly impossible feat of being quintessentially English at the same time as being very West Coast, 1967.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_18: Paul had intended to play it both ways, writing old-fashioned lyrics delivered with a satirical psychedelic intensity, and using a title that appealed to the late 60s vogue of four long and surreal band names.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_18: Jefferson Airplane, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Incredible String Band, Big Brother and the Holding Company.
- 1:09:46SPEAKER_18: Quote, they were a bit of a brass band in a way, Paul said at the time, but they also a rock band because they've got that San Francisco thing.
- 1:09:55SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_18: Unquote.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_18: The origin of the name Sgt.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_18: Pepper is disputed.
- 1:10:02SPEAKER_18: The Beatles' former road manager, Mal Evans, is sometimes cited as created it as a jokey substitute for salt and pepper.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_18: Others suggest the name was derived from the popular American soft drink Dr.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_18: Pepper.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_18: So there you go.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_25: And the story that I was thinking of with Jimi Hendrix was Paul McCartney had told it.
- 1:10:24SPEAKER_25: I don't know if it was in the anthology or where where it was, but he was saying they had released the song as a single on a It was like on a Friday, and then on Sunday, they saw Jimi Hendrix doing it at the Odeon or something.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_25: Yeah, he opened with it.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_25: He had learned the song over you know in two days or whatever.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_18: I think Clapton was with them at that point.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_25: I yeah, I think you're right.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:10:50SPEAKER_25: So but as you know, Sgt.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_25: Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club band was a response to the Beach Boys' pet sounds.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_25: Correct.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_25: Um Paul McCartney had, well actually the whole band, but mostly Paul McCartney had heard it and was like just knocked out at everything that Brian Wilson had done.
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_25: And this was his answer to it, and I think Brian Wilson had the same um appreciation for Sergeant Pepper.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_25: Um I don't know if that was ever expressed anywhere, but he there was a mutual aberration society thing going on.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I mean they were between those guys.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:11:26SPEAKER_25: Um so I've got the one that I have in my iTunes, because we're gonna play some of our favorite Beach Boy songs.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_25: I have Endless Summer in my iTunes, but I've got YouTube here, so if you if you give me a song that you want to hear that I don't have here, I can find it.
- 1:11:43SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah, I'm sure.
- 1:11:44SPEAKER_25: But I'm gonna start with you.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_25: What what you give me your one of your favorite Beach Boy songs.
- 1:11:49SPEAKER_18: Well, we already talked about it, God only knows.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_18: God only knows.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_18: It's one of my favorite songs, I'm sure.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_25: Yeah, so we heard Sting's version of it, but this is the this is the actual uh just so musical and kind of just all over the place.
- 1:12:05SPEAKER_25: No yeah, but it works so well.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_08: I may not always love you as long as there are stars of love you You never need to daddy I'll make you so bad God only knows what I do without you The future every Will I was to really be The world would show nothing to me So what good would nothing to me God only knows what I'd be without you I mean we could play we could play this all night long, right?
- 1:13:11SPEAKER_25: We could we we could keep Oh keep going.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_18: I'm just gonna go because I but you know everybody knows the Wrecking Crew is the the musicians in that.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_18: Yep.
- 1:13:20SPEAKER_18: So I mean Brian wrote everything.
- 1:13:22SPEAKER_25: Yeah but and he arranged everything, but it was just you know the wrecking crew did uh all the performances I was a big fan of Brian Wilson's ballads that he wrote for the Beach Boys.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_25: Um so I'm gonna start with those.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_25: And because of the harmonies, the harmonies, the way he wrote harmonies uh was unique as far as I'm saying.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_18: Well it was Beach Boy Records that I first understood the concept of harmony.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:13:50SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_18: You know, when you listen to him, you were like, it wasn't just like one person saying it.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_18: It was like, oh, you know, there was a layers, and you were like, whoa.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_25: I'm gonna I'm gonna start with this one.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, great song.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_25: The warmth of the sun.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_25: And and listen to this with headphones on.
- 1:15:00SPEAKER_17: Yeah, it's ever gets the best.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_25: Alright, give me another one.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_18: In my if we're on that, in my room.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_18: Oh, yeah, I was gonna say the same thing.
- 1:15:13SPEAKER_25: That was yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_07: And the other two I cry.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_07: That's an amazing song.
- 1:16:46SPEAKER_25: That's such a great song.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_25: Uh, I'm gonna shy away from the the ballads, although those are my favorite.
- 1:16:51SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_25: All of the all of the yeah.
- 1:16:53SPEAKER_25: I'm gonna go to this one because this one, I don't know, this one holds a special place in my heart because I I don't and I don't know why.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_25: I think there was a girl involved.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_18: There's always a girl involved.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I can't I can't remember.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_25: This was like junior high.
- 1:17:06SPEAKER_25: I was listening to that stuff.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_17: Um I was gonna say this, man.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_17: I love this song.
- 1:17:12SPEAKER_17: Don't worry, baby.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_07: Well, it's been building up inside me for I don't know how long I don't know why, but I keep thinking so.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_18: Alright, give me another one.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_18: I I just love the guitar soul on the it's such a Harrison guitar soul.
- 1:18:13SPEAKER_07: Hold on, hold on.
- 1:18:15SPEAKER_07: Let's get good.
- 1:18:25SPEAKER_25: Oh here we go.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_17: What else do you need?
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_17: This is literally the entire guitar solo of this.
- 1:18:42SPEAKER_18: I mean, even I could do that one.
- 1:18:45SPEAKER_18: Dude, you gotta play Wendy.
- 1:18:47SPEAKER_18: I love that song.
- 1:18:48SPEAKER_25: Yeah, that's the thing, is all of these songs.
- 1:18:51SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I mean you just can't help it, man.
- 1:18:53SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_07: Wendy, Wendy, what went wrong for so long We went together for so long I never thought a guy could cry till you made it with another guy.
- 1:19:34SPEAKER_07: Oh bad.
- 1:19:44SPEAKER_07: Don't believe the wordy.
- 1:19:50SPEAKER_04: I can't picture you with him.
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_04: His future looks awful to Wendy, when he left me alone.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_25: Alright, let's see.
- 1:20:04SPEAKER_25: I like picking you could be there's the the popular ones, you know, ones, the ones that everybody goes to, like uh Surf and Safari, Surf in USA, Little Deuce Coop, uh Fun Fun Fun.
- 1:20:16SPEAKER_25: But there are some songs that were obviously they were hits, yeah.
- 1:20:20SPEAKER_25: But but that people don't go to them automatically.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_25: Right.
- 1:20:23SPEAKER_25: And I like this one.
- 1:20:25SPEAKER_25: Uh well, actually there's a couple, but this one, Let Em Run Wild.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_08: When I watched it.
- 1:20:32SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_08: You remember this?
- 1:20:34SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:20:38SPEAKER_18: It's one of the deeper tracks.
- 1:20:39SPEAKER_18: Yep.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_25: Yeah, good stuff.
- 1:21:17SPEAKER_25: Oh, good give me another one.
- 1:21:19SPEAKER_25: We'll do a couple more.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_25: We'll do a couple more.
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_25: Oh, you know what?
- 1:21:22SPEAKER_25: That's not on my car.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_25: One of my favorite harmonies in this is I think it's the last time they go back into it.
- 1:22:46SPEAKER_25: When they stop and they do it again.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_25: Listen to this harmony right here.
- 1:22:57SPEAKER_25: Little things like that just catch my ear, you know.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_25: Uh let's see.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_25: I want to do a couple just a couple more.
- 1:23:03SPEAKER_25: Uh, I'm gonna go back to the ballads because this one, obviously.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_25: Oh yeah.
- 1:23:27SPEAKER_25: If you listen to this in headphones, you can pick out each part out.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_25: And you know they they doubled hold on, they they doubled a lot of their vocal, like the lead vocals, especially.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_25: Um if you if you listen to this bridge right here that I'm about to play, same song.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_25: Uh We Couldn't Ride the Surf Together.
- 1:24:23SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_25: There's two vocals there.
- 1:24:26SPEAKER_25: It's the same person singing, but it's like it's like they left uh something there.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_25: Like they left a take in there.
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_25: Maybe I'm hearing it wrong, but there's two people singing it.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_25: So I want you to just see if you can.
- 1:24:42SPEAKER_25: We couldn't ride the surf together.
- 1:24:47SPEAKER_25: Right here.
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_25: Did you hear it?
- 1:24:55SPEAKER_18: Yeah, it's uh it's like it's offset.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:24:59SPEAKER_25: So I think they doubled it.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_25: I think they doubled the lead vocal.
- 1:25:03SPEAKER_18: Is the it's either that or there's some kind of effect on it, but I don't know what effect you would do that on.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_25: See, the thing is, is I hate stopping these.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_25: Yeah, you just want to let them play.
- 1:25:20SPEAKER_25: I just want to let them play because it's just so genius.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_25: You got another one?
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_18: Uh, no.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_18: I mean, I'm just I'm just getting like nostalgic because I'm just I'm I'm back in my room with my Superman turntable, and I'm listening to Endless the Endless Summer album like over and over and over and over and over and over again.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_25: Uh I'm trying to think of one that that maybe uh goes unnoticed.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_25: Um Girl Don't Tell Me.
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_08: Oh, that's a good one.
- 1:25:49SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:25:50SPEAKER_08: Hi, little girl, it's me, Daunting UI.
- 1:25:57SPEAKER_04: I bet you last time.
- 1:25:59SPEAKER_04: Is this Dennis?
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_17: The drummer?
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_17: It might be.
- 1:26:04SPEAKER_04: I think it is who left you with tears in his eyes.
- 1:26:10SPEAKER_18: It's not Carl, is it?
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_18: I don't I don't know.
- 1:26:12SPEAKER_04: You didn't answer my letters go after you did what just too lies.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_25: Maybe Carl.
- 1:26:24SPEAKER_18: Yep, no, it is Carl.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_18: Okay.
- 1:26:26SPEAKER_18: I didn't think it was Dennis.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_18: He does sing on.
- 1:26:29SPEAKER_18: He does he does have a song.
- 1:26:31SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:26:33SPEAKER_18: Of course, poor Dennis ended up doing a Charlie Manson song.
- 1:26:38SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_18: Come on.
- 1:26:43SPEAKER_07: I'll see you in summer.
- 1:26:45SPEAKER_18: I think I think he should consider himself lucky he didn't end up a victim of the Manson family.
- 1:26:50SPEAKER_05: I think it's out of it.
- 1:26:51SPEAKER_05: Girl don't tell me you ride.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_05: Girl, don't tell me you ride high.
- 1:26:59SPEAKER_05: Girl, don't tell me you ride looking this time.
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_25: Yeah, I I mean, Brian Wilson wrote the majority of that stuff and arranged it and was the was the genius.
- 1:27:13SPEAKER_25: Was the brains, was the engine, was the the creative spark uh of the Beach Boys.
- 1:27:17SPEAKER_25: And I I I mean I've watched the Beach Boys story, the movie.
- 1:27:22SPEAKER_25: There's a couple different movies, and and the stuff that they went through with their dad and it was terrible.
- 1:27:28SPEAKER_25: Um but what a genius.
- 1:27:30SPEAKER_18: I like that one that John Cusack was in.
- 1:27:33SPEAKER_18: It was later on.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_18: Yeah.
- 1:27:34SPEAKER_18: It was more of like him.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_18: Um I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_25: I can't either.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_18: But it was really good.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_18: I thought John Cusack did a really good job.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_25: Yeah, it was interesting casting.
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_18: Yeah, I mean, I would never picture John Cusack as Brian Wilson.
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_18: But I mean he he played it, you know, because that was when he was in psychotic, yeah, basically.
- 1:27:55SPEAKER_25: Yeah, you know.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_25: So that was well done.
- 1:27:57SPEAKER_25: Yeah, it was.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_25: Yeah.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_25: Um that's it.
- 1:28:00SPEAKER_25: That's our um kind of a tribute, I guess.
- 1:28:03SPEAKER_25: Yes.
- 1:28:03SPEAKER_25: To the great uh Brian Wilson.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_25: Uh rest in peace.
- 1:28:09SPEAKER_25: Um I don't know.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_25: I haven't played the piano the whole episode, so um what was I working on earlier?
- 1:28:34SPEAKER_18: I don't know if this is the end of this podcast.
- 1:28:39SPEAKER_18: But we sure had some fun.
- 1:28:43SPEAKER_18: Complaining about the government and songs of yesterday by Brian Wilson.
- 1:28:53SPEAKER_18: He's really awesome.
- 1:29:07SPEAKER_25: Anyway.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_18: It's a working progress.
- 1:29:10SPEAKER_25: Yeah, it's a working progress.
- 1:29:11SPEAKER_25: Alright, so that's it.
- 1:29:12SPEAKER_25: That's episode uh two four-seven.
- 1:29:17SPEAKER_18: Twenty-fourth event.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_18: Um Brian and Doug.
- 1:29:19SPEAKER_18: Twenty-four-favor.
- 1:29:20SPEAKER_18: What are we calling this one?
