- 1:36Speaker 1: the backyard to dig into the dirt. On this episode,
- 1:40Speaker 1: we are talking about our classic April Fool's episode on
- 1:44Speaker 1: John Denver. The sources we used for this episode which
- 1:47Speaker 1: helped us uncover a crazy story about how the guy
- 1:50Speaker 1: who sang take Me Home, Country Roads may have taken
- 1:52Speaker 1: a dark secret to his grave. Not really, but sir,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and of course your voicemails, text, dms and more, and
- 1:58Speaker 1: as always, a whole lot of rosie. All right, disc goes,
- 2:01Speaker 1: Let's get into it. November twenty second, nineteen sixty three,
- 2:17Speaker 1: September twenty seventh, nineteen sixty four, December twentieth, nineteen ninety one.
- 2:23Speaker 1: What are all three of those dates have in common?
- 2:25Speaker 1: If you answered the loss of American trust in its institutions,
- 2:29Speaker 1: then ding ding Ding, you are going to win a prize.
- 2:32Speaker 1: November twenty second, nineteen sixty three, was, of course, the
- 2:35Speaker 1: date that President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. September twenty seventh,
- 2:39Speaker 1: nineteen sixty four was the date that the Warrant Commission's
- 2:41Speaker 1: report was made available to the public, where on a
- 2:44Speaker 1: panel of seven public officials declared that the gunman, Lee
- 2:47Speaker 1: Harvey Oswald acted entirely alone when he shot President Kennedy.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And December twentieth, nineteen ninety one, was, of course the
- 2:55Speaker 1: date that Oliver Stone released his masterpiece JFK, a film
- 2:59Speaker 1: that presents New Orleans District Attorney Jim Garrison's theory on
- 3:03Speaker 1: the assassination that directly refutes the Warren Commission's findings. The
- 3:10Speaker 1: murder of the thirty fifth President of the United States
- 3:14Speaker 1: was captured on film famously, and once the horrifying image
- 3:19Speaker 1: of his death and of his glamorous wife scrambling over
- 3:22Speaker 1: the back of their open air Lincoln continentals to gather
- 3:25Speaker 1: bits of his exploding brains. Once that incredible imagery faded,
- 3:29Speaker 1: we were left able to further analyze the assassination in
- 3:32Speaker 1: comparison with what our government was presenting as fact. That
- 3:37Speaker 1: one gunman was responsible for this awful event, and that
- 3:41Speaker 1: he was perched above the president when he shot his
- 3:44Speaker 1: antiquated single bolt action rifle, and that even though he
- 3:48Speaker 1: was positioned behind the president, his bullet entered the President's
- 3:52Speaker 1: body from the front, forcing it, as Jerry Seinfeld said
- 3:55Speaker 1: to America repeatedly on February twelve, nineteen ninety two, back
- 3:59Speaker 1: into the Left, a phrase also that the band Texas
- 4:02Speaker 1: Is the Reason would later nail in song on their
- 4:05Speaker 1: album do You Know Who You Are? In nineteen ninety six,
- 4:08Speaker 1: and by the time most of us were rather born
- 4:10Speaker 1: or old enough to be consuming and understanding pop culture,
- 4:14Speaker 1: it was a well known fact that not only was
- 4:17Speaker 1: Lee Harvey Oswald not the lone gunman, but that our
- 4:20Speaker 1: government lied to us about it with the Warren Report,
- 4:23Speaker 1: and that they continue to lie to us about the
- 4:25Speaker 1: murder of what could have been our most transformative leader.
- 4:28Speaker 1: And to take it even further, it's a likely fact
- 4:31Speaker 1: that not only did our government lie to us about
- 4:33Speaker 1: this event, they were likely responsible for it. Two of
- 4:36Speaker 1: these three things the government lying about JFK's killer, the
- 4:40Speaker 1: government continuing to lie to us about JFK's killer. These
- 4:43Speaker 1: are facts. The third thing the government being responsible for
- 4:47Speaker 1: the murder that as of yet has not been irrefutably proven.
- 4:50Speaker 1: But let's be real. Even though we don't have video
- 4:52Speaker 1: proof of it like we do to dispute the lone
- 4:54Speaker 1: gunman theory, the facts get us to about ninety percent
- 4:58Speaker 1: certainty that the CIA worked with the MATH and likely
- 5:00Speaker 1: other interested parties to successfully pull off an American kupdeta.
- 5:05Speaker 1: But at this point in my life this is less
- 5:08Speaker 1: interesting to me than the fact that the American government
- 5:10Speaker 1: asked us to disbelieve our own eyes. Pay no attention
- 5:15Speaker 1: to what you see in that footage of the president
- 5:17Speaker 1: being killed, No believe what we tell you. Instead. Many
- 5:21Speaker 1: of us didn't, of course, see Oliver Stone and pretty
- 5:25Speaker 1: much anyone born after the World War two generation. But
- 5:27Speaker 1: almost all of us are compliant. What are we going
- 5:30Speaker 1: to do? Not trust the government is what we're going
- 5:33Speaker 1: to do. They lied to us, then they lied to
- 5:36Speaker 1: us about Vietnam and Cambodia afterward, and Iran Contra and
- 5:39Speaker 1: weapons of mass destruction, And they lied to us over
- 5:42Speaker 1: and over again throughout the last three administrations. And it
- 5:45Speaker 1: doesn't matter who our leaders are in the future, our
- 5:47Speaker 1: government will continue to lie to us, and we will
- 5:49Speaker 1: continue to not have faith in our biggest, most powerful institution.
- 5:55Speaker 1: That is old news. That's interesting, but it's not super
- 5:58Speaker 1: interesting to me, I get it. What is very interesting
- 6:01Speaker 1: to me, and given my age and my generation, is
- 6:03Speaker 1: that there ever was even a time at all when
- 6:06Speaker 1: people did trust the government. That is kind of shocking
- 6:10Speaker 1: to think of. I think how cynical that is. By
- 6:13Speaker 1: the way, that most people won't believe you if you
- 6:15Speaker 1: tell them that between the years after World War Two
- 6:18Speaker 1: and before the Kennedy assassination, that America existed in relative
- 6:22Speaker 1: consensus and that the majority of Americans trusted the government
- 6:26Speaker 1: as much, if not more, than any other institution. How
- 6:30Speaker 1: cynical is it that I can't even really imagine that time.
- 6:34Speaker 1: I can't even really fathom it. It's hard for me
- 6:37Speaker 1: to believe. And we have the jfk assassination to thank
- 6:41Speaker 1: for this lack of trust, and personally, this lack of
- 6:45Speaker 1: trust is what makes it possible for some dickhead like
- 6:49Speaker 1: me to tell you a story that is wildly unbelievable,
- 6:52Speaker 1: a story that musician John Denver was the most decorated
- 6:55Speaker 1: sniper in American military history, and that he was one
- 6:58Speaker 1: of the other gunmen besides it's Oswald on that day
- 7:01Speaker 1: in Dallas in sixty three, and that you guys believed
- 7:04Speaker 1: that craziness even though at the beginning of the episode,
- 7:08Speaker 1: I state right there that the episode you're about to
- 7:10Speaker 1: hear is satire, yet still you believed it. Still I
- 7:13Speaker 1: got you, almost all of you, of course, And that
- 7:16Speaker 1: this story, even when stripped of ninety percent of its
- 7:20Speaker 1: context and boiled down into a seventy five second reel
- 7:24Speaker 1: on Instagram, that it's still got people. Don't feel bad.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I believe this unbelievable story too when I first heard it.
- 7:33Speaker 1: It's almost as if we've all been trained to not
- 7:35Speaker 1: believe our own eyes, just like the government asked us
- 7:38Speaker 1: to do with the Warren Commission.
- 7:40Speaker 2: I'll be back in a flash.
- 8:04Speaker 1: All right. You might be asking yourself, you know, why
- 8:07Speaker 1: did I believe this story? Or you might be sitting
- 8:10Speaker 1: there going, oh, we thought you made up this story
- 8:12Speaker 1: about John Denver being a decorated sniper in an assassin
- 8:18Speaker 1: in the JFK assassination. I'm gonna give you a little
- 8:22Speaker 1: background here on how this story came to be. What's true,
- 8:27Speaker 1: what's not true, The reason this story is actually believable
- 8:31Speaker 1: in such a great April fool's joke is that parts
- 8:34Speaker 1: of it are legitimately true. Now I heard the fact
- 8:39Speaker 1: about the part about him being the most decorated sniper
- 8:42Speaker 1: in the history of the American military. That part of
- 8:46Speaker 1: the story I did not make up. That was an
- 8:47Speaker 1: old wives tale. I don't know where I heard it.
- 8:49Speaker 1: I probably heard it at a party in high school
- 8:51Speaker 1: or in college and sort of the pre ubiquity of
- 8:55Speaker 1: the internet era, and it was just one of those
- 8:58Speaker 1: things that you couldn't disprove in the moment before you know,
- 9:01Speaker 1: cell phones and all that, but you know it is
- 9:06Speaker 1: out there. If you google John Denver Sniper, you will
- 9:09Speaker 1: get returns that are, of course not correct information. It's
- 9:15Speaker 1: just this wild conspiracy theory. It's meant to be a gag.
- 9:18Speaker 1: It's not meant to be any sort of harmful thing,
- 9:22Speaker 1: and it's a fascinating, fascinating conspiracy story. It's one that is, just,
- 9:27Speaker 1: like I said, so unbelievable that it makes you want
- 9:29Speaker 1: to kind of believe it. However, the reason that it's
- 9:33Speaker 1: so unbelievable is that there are truth to John Denver's
- 9:37Speaker 1: background that support this story. His father was in the
- 9:41Speaker 1: Air Force. John Denver did grow up an Air Force,
- 9:45Speaker 1: an Air Force brat. I believe his father was one
- 9:48Speaker 1: of the first, like the first class of Air Force
- 9:51Speaker 1: when the Air Force was established post World War Two.
- 9:54Speaker 1: His father was one of the first airmen. I believe.
- 9:57Speaker 1: I believe that to be true. I could be wrong,
- 10:00Speaker 1: but like I said, that part of the story is true.
- 10:05Speaker 1: So I thought, Okay, how do I research John Denver
- 10:09Speaker 1: and how do I go into his past and how
- 10:11Speaker 1: do I figure out find other elements, true elements of
- 10:14Speaker 1: his story that can help support this incredible narrative that
- 10:19Speaker 1: he was an assassin, and not just an assassin in Vietnam,
- 10:23Speaker 1: but perhaps an assassin in the JFK assassination, because again
- 10:30Speaker 1: to the truth of it, you know, there were multiple
- 10:34Speaker 1: gunmen who shot at JFK, and there are you know,
- 10:37Speaker 1: e Howard Hunt, who I mentioned in the story, is
- 10:41Speaker 1: rumored to have been one of them, although I don't
- 10:43Speaker 1: necessarily believe that. I believe he was there that day,
- 10:45Speaker 1: and there may in fact be images of him being
- 10:48Speaker 1: arrested on that day, but I don't think he was
- 10:50Speaker 1: actually one of the gunmen. Was he was little that
- 10:52Speaker 1: was a little bit below his pay grades. So the
- 10:55Speaker 1: question of who the gunmen were besides Oswald remains, and
- 10:59Speaker 1: there's of different theories. There were there were Corsicans who
- 11:02Speaker 1: were flown in by the mafia, but there's also the
- 11:05Speaker 1: theory that they were they were military men. C I A, Well,
- 11:08Speaker 1: that's the theory that I believe. I believe it was
- 11:10Speaker 1: a mix. So you know, why not John Denver anyways,
- 11:16Speaker 1: and there's there's so that's you know that part of
- 11:18Speaker 1: it is true too from the JFK perspective, right, that
- 11:20Speaker 1: there were these multiple snipers. I think you can't look
- 11:22Speaker 1: at the the evidence of JFK's assassination, like I said
- 11:26Speaker 1: earlier in the B Block and walk away thinking that
- 11:28Speaker 1: there was only one gunman. So if it's true that
- 11:30Speaker 1: there were multiple, it stands the reason I guess, in
- 11:33Speaker 1: some fantastical alternate reality, that John Denver was one of them.
- 11:38Speaker 1: Now there's other pieces, obviously. I tell the story of
- 11:42Speaker 1: John Denver as a musician, UH in his coming up
- 11:45Speaker 1: and his coming up on the West Coast sort of
- 11:47Speaker 1: folks scene. The difference between the folks scene in the
- 11:49Speaker 1: West Coast from the folks scene in the East Coast.
- 11:52Speaker 1: UH him coming up with David Crosby and the Birds,
- 11:54Speaker 1: and that beef between John Denver and David Crosby that
- 11:57Speaker 1: actually happened. That was true, That was real.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Uh.
- 12:00Speaker 1: The bit about John Denver chainsawing his bed in half
- 12:06Speaker 1: for his wife, that is true as well. That is
- 12:09Speaker 1: something that I uncovered in my research of John Denver,
- 12:12Speaker 1: and that flies right in the face of who John
- 12:14Speaker 1: Denver was, and if we were doing it just a
- 12:16Speaker 1: straight John Denver story, that unbelievable, holy shit moment would
- 12:20Speaker 1: definitely be part of it. John Denver did actually die
- 12:24Speaker 1: in a plane crash his own plane. He did not
- 12:29Speaker 1: allow himself to crash, to overcome his guilt and his
- 12:34Speaker 1: shame and to put an end to and all that.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Of course I made up and was part of the
- 12:38Speaker 1: April Fools joke. So you know some of the sources
- 12:43Speaker 1: here that I used going to get into these It's
- 12:46Speaker 1: been a long time this episode came out. It was
- 12:48Speaker 1: the second or third year of the show of the podcast.
- 12:51Speaker 1: I can't remember. It came out a couple of years ago.
- 12:53Speaker 1: I think it came out in twoenty twenty if memory serves,
- 12:58Speaker 1: And I don't really have a lot of strong insight
- 13:02Speaker 1: into these research sources here. I simply have the list.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Let me see if anything jogs my memory is I
- 13:09Speaker 1: read them John Denver, Okay, yeah, John Denver, The Untold
- 13:13Speaker 1: Story of a Vietnam Sniper by Loretta's Spilt. This must
- 13:16Speaker 1: be the article that I that I found on the
- 13:18Speaker 1: Internet that that kind of makes the case that he
- 13:20Speaker 1: was a Vietnam sniper. That is just you know, false
- 13:23Speaker 1: Rocky Mountain, high priced home. That's where I get the
- 13:25Speaker 1: details on John Denver's massive seven thousand square foot Aspen mansion.
- 13:31Speaker 1: Had to do a lot of research into how snipers
- 13:34Speaker 1: actually work, because I don't understand any of that now.
- 13:37Speaker 1: At the time that this episode came out, there was
- 13:39Speaker 1: this time in modern American history where there are all
- 13:43Speaker 1: these JFK documents that were set to be released and
- 13:49Speaker 1: Trump looked at when he was president. He looked at
- 13:51Speaker 1: some of them and he was like, Nope, I'm not
- 13:54Speaker 1: not releasing these. And I was like, ah, I can
- 13:57Speaker 1: use that. I can use that as part of the story,
- 14:00Speaker 1: again using the truth to help tell the fantasy. I
- 14:04Speaker 1: did a lot of research on cias their kill squads.
- 14:08Speaker 1: There was an article I read called the CIA's Worldwide
- 14:10Speaker 1: kill Squads by Roy Norton. You want to learn more
- 14:13Speaker 1: about that Trump and the JFK assassination files, There was
- 14:16Speaker 1: an article called Trump holds some JFK assassination files back
- 14:19Speaker 1: set's new three year deadline. I'm sure we've passed that
- 14:22Speaker 1: three year deadline since then, and they still haven't been released.
- 14:26Speaker 1: I did read a John Denver biography, and I don't
- 14:29Speaker 1: have it listed here in my list of sources, and
- 14:33Speaker 1: I'm not sure I'm not sure which that was. Excuse me,
- 14:36Speaker 1: I'm not sure what that was. Which book that was?
- 14:40Speaker 1: So just you know, the thing that makes this John
- 14:43Speaker 1: Denver think so believable is who John Denver was as
- 14:46Speaker 1: a character. He was this very docile, peaceful, just kind
- 14:50Speaker 1: of chill guy. He wasn't quite a hippie, but he
- 14:54Speaker 1: was like a He was of the hippie generation, someone that,
- 14:58Speaker 1: you know, the hippie's parents could get be behind. You know,
- 15:01Speaker 1: John Denver two. It's worth mentioning here. You know, we
- 15:05Speaker 1: probably because he died and he didn't get to really
- 15:08Speaker 1: maintain his own legacy and cultivate it, we I think
- 15:13Speaker 1: we've forgotten just how famous and popular he was. He
- 15:18Speaker 1: was literally one of like a handful, like top five
- 15:24Speaker 1: most famous entertainers on the planet in the nineteen seventies,
- 15:29Speaker 1: like it was him, Sinatra and Elvis, maybe Barbara streisand
- 15:36Speaker 1: and I don't know, perhaps Robert Redford in the seventies.
- 15:41Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of who would fill that fifth slot.
- 15:43Speaker 1: But he was that big and just totally mainstream TV specials,
- 15:50Speaker 1: huge albums year after year after year, massive singles, and
- 15:55Speaker 1: I gotta say, I don't really like any of it.
- 15:57Speaker 1: I am not a John Denver fan. I know because
- 16:00Speaker 1: of his fame and his cultural impact that a lot
- 16:03Speaker 1: of you are, and that's cool, but just never spoke
- 16:07Speaker 1: to me on any level at all. Really, I just
- 16:13Speaker 1: thought he was Even as a kid watching him on
- 16:15Speaker 1: the Muppets, I didn't think he was particularly interesting, But
- 16:20Speaker 1: you know him as a sniper in Vietnam I'm in Anyways,
- 16:24Speaker 1: he was huge. That's the point I'm trying to make massive,
- 16:27Speaker 1: wildly famous, and that that was a point I wanted
- 16:30Speaker 1: to make, and I'm not sure I really did. I
- 16:33Speaker 1: wanted to get that across. It's hard for people who
- 16:35Speaker 1: were younger to truly understand just how popular he was,
- 16:39Speaker 1: but his vibe his image was this real kind of
- 16:44Speaker 1: like peaceful, pastful environment pacifist excuse me, environmentalists, and you know,
- 16:49Speaker 1: and that's what makes it makes the story so compelling
- 16:53Speaker 1: that he was a sniper. Another interesting sidebar here is
- 16:56Speaker 1: that the same rumor exists about mister Rogers, he too
- 17:01Speaker 1: rumored who had been a sniper. The reason that he
- 17:03Speaker 1: always wore those long sleeved cardigans supposedly was to hide
- 17:07Speaker 1: all his tattoos for the war. But you know that
- 17:12Speaker 1: never happened, all right, clearly, perhaps again, this is an
- 17:16Speaker 1: April Fools thing. We re released it this year. It's
- 17:20Speaker 1: been a couple of years since it first came out.
- 17:23Speaker 1: I got a bunch of you new listeners. I'm thankful
- 17:26Speaker 1: that you're here. Please forgive me. It's probably also worth
- 17:29Speaker 1: mentioning that we've we've done another April Fools episode. It's
- 17:34Speaker 1: in the archive. I'm not going to mention about what
- 17:38Speaker 1: it is, but it's there and you might stumble upon
- 17:43Speaker 1: it in the archive, and if you do, go easy
- 17:47Speaker 1: on me. I'm just playing. Not everything has to be
- 17:49Speaker 1: super serious and super dark, and I think you know
- 17:51Speaker 1: that about me. Six one seven nine oh six six
- 17:54Speaker 1: six three eight to let me know, either on voicemail
- 17:58Speaker 1: or text, what you thought of the John Denver episode,
- 18:01Speaker 1: or really just to catch up on anything. Six one
- 18:03Speaker 1: seven nine oh six six six three eight I'm here
- 18:05Speaker 1: for We asked a lot. I thought the van Halen
- 18:08Speaker 1: episode last week prompted a lot of compelling questions in
- 18:11Speaker 1: the after Party bonus episode that we did on covers,
- 18:15Speaker 1: best covers, covers that are better than the originals, best
- 18:18Speaker 1: guitar players. All that, let's check in with some of
- 18:21Speaker 1: your answers from last week's question. This one comes from
- 18:25Speaker 1: the seven three to two. Hey, Jake, Mark from New Jersey,
- 18:28Speaker 1: just listening to the van Halen episode.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Amazing as usual.
- 18:32Speaker 1: Only cover that I think might be better than H's
- 18:36Speaker 1: over Roy is Springting's Jersey Girl over Tom Waits.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Might you forget who sang the original?
- 18:44Speaker 1: That makes it a better cover?
- 18:46Speaker 3: And that first man?
- 18:48Speaker 1: You know as much as I love Tom Waits, Mark,
- 18:51Speaker 1: and I really do, I really love Tom Waits. I
- 18:54Speaker 1: think if I could be any musician of all time,
- 18:56Speaker 1: it would be Tom Waits. That's a good question. We'll
- 18:59Speaker 1: get back to that, But I agree with you. I
- 19:04Speaker 1: think Springsteen's version is better, and uh, I think Tom
- 19:07Speaker 1: Waits might even tell you that as well. It was
- 19:09Speaker 1: certainly better for his bank account, that's for sure. All right,
- 19:12Speaker 1: Let's check out another voicemail here, this one from the
- 19:17Speaker 1: six one five on the same subject.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Hey, Jake, this is Robbie from the six one five.
- 19:22Speaker 3: I am calling with probably the most obvious best cover song,
- 19:29Speaker 3: right the one that took over the original. It's got
- 19:33Speaker 3: to be Hurt, Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt from Transversion.
- 19:38Speaker 3: There's there's nothing nothing that compares right so much towards
- 19:42Speaker 3: you know, trans like that's not my farm anymore. That's
- 19:43Speaker 3: Johnny's song. Take care man Sea.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, six one five. I agree with you. That's a
- 19:48Speaker 1: great example Hurt by Johnny Cash. And and and you know,
- 19:53Speaker 1: we obviously have to credit Johnny Cash for the performance,
- 19:57Speaker 1: but we got to credit Rick Rubin for the for
- 20:00Speaker 1: uh producing that song. And I don't know how much
- 20:04Speaker 1: he actually produced it other than suggesting it. But the
- 20:08Speaker 1: vulnerability in Johnny Cash's voice at that point in his career,
- 20:11Speaker 1: at that point of his life, excuse me, when he
- 20:12Speaker 1: sings that song is just it's overwhelming, and it does
- 20:16Speaker 1: something different to the composition that just wasn't there when
- 20:21Speaker 1: Trent Reznor performed it It's It's really fantastic six one
- 20:25Speaker 1: seven nine six six six three eight to hit me
- 20:28Speaker 1: up guys voicemail and text. You know, there was a
- 20:33Speaker 1: there was an interesting question that just just got prompted
- 20:35Speaker 1: there when we were talking about Tom Waits. And I
- 20:39Speaker 1: used to be a musician. I don't really count myself
- 20:42Speaker 1: as one anymore. I mean, I'll always make music on
- 20:44Speaker 1: some level, but I'm not. I don't want to confuse
- 20:48Speaker 1: what I do with what other people do, and do
- 20:50Speaker 1: very very very well. So I used to think of, like, God,
- 20:52Speaker 1: if I could be any musician in the world, who
- 20:55Speaker 1: would it be? And and Tom Waits was always at
- 20:58Speaker 1: the top of my list. I thought he was just
- 21:00Speaker 1: I thought he was like this God, He's just so holy,
- 21:05Speaker 1: unique and original and talk about covers right, and talk
- 21:08Speaker 1: about making things your own. Not that Tom Waits was
- 21:12Speaker 1: this massive cover artist in any way. He wasn't. But
- 21:16Speaker 1: he took uh, he took Americana, he took country and
- 21:20Speaker 1: blues and jazz and early pop music, and he took
- 21:27Speaker 1: all of that and blended it into something completely his own.
- 21:31Speaker 1: And I just I just was I am. I remain
- 21:35Speaker 1: completely blown away by it that level of originality, and
- 21:41Speaker 1: yet it's still completely compelling and listenable. It's not just,
- 21:47Speaker 1: you know, unique to be unique, original to be original,
- 21:50Speaker 1: it's something that speaks on a universal level. And I
- 21:53Speaker 1: always thought, God, if I could be anyone, it would
- 21:55Speaker 1: be Tom Waits, if I could be any musician. That
- 21:57Speaker 1: is not that I want to be anyone else. I'm
- 21:59Speaker 1: pretty hap being me. But the question remains, if you
- 22:03Speaker 1: could be any musician, who would it be? Six one
- 22:05Speaker 1: seven nine was six six sixty three eight. We'll get
- 22:08Speaker 1: back to that in a minute. I want to do
- 22:09Speaker 1: a couple of texts here as well. Again on this
- 22:12Speaker 1: Covers issue two four eight Rights in Thin, Lizzie's cover
- 22:15Speaker 1: of Whiskey and the Jar is more than a great
- 22:18Speaker 1: cover in the vein of Hendrix's All Along the Watchtower,
- 22:21Speaker 1: but a complete evolution of the very old folk song
- 22:23Speaker 1: made famous by the double NRS Rick from the two
- 22:26Speaker 1: four eight I would have to agree, great song, great, great,
- 22:30Speaker 1: great song, one of those songs. When I hear it
- 22:31Speaker 1: is just in my head for about two weeks, can't
- 22:33Speaker 1: get it out. Six four six, Rights in Hey, Hope
- 22:37Speaker 1: all is well with you and your family? Just listening
- 22:39Speaker 1: to your podcast on John Denver, you mentioned Santo Trafficante
- 22:42Speaker 1: in New Orleans. Traffic Conte was from Tampa. Carlos Marcelo
- 22:46Speaker 1: was in New Orleans. Many historians link Ah. Many historians
- 22:50Speaker 1: link Marcello to the assassination of RFK and Doctor King
- 22:55Speaker 1: Go Nix, good call six four six my mistake. You're
- 23:00Speaker 1: absolutely right. I mixed up those two gangsters. And I
- 23:04Speaker 1: knew this. You know it's the Southern gangsters and and
- 23:07Speaker 1: I messed up the Southern places of origin. I apologize
- 23:10Speaker 1: eight one eight rights in Jake, your podcasts are, in
- 23:13Speaker 1: a word cool. Just finished the Van Halen episode and
- 23:18Speaker 1: I dug it. I wanted to touch on the Steve
- 23:20Speaker 1: McQueen episode.
- 23:21Speaker 2: I was.
- 23:21Speaker 1: I was listening to the bonus episode of the van
- 23:23Speaker 1: Halen one. Someone mentioned Elaine Delone, who would be a
- 23:26Speaker 1: great episode. And you said to send you a couple
- 23:29Speaker 1: of titles to get you familiar with them. So here
- 23:31Speaker 1: you go, like Samurai nineteen sixty seven and Farewell Friend
- 23:34Speaker 1: nineteen sixty eight, also starring Charles Bronson. He was considered
- 23:37Speaker 1: the French James Dean Cooler than cool, and it's still
- 23:40Speaker 1: around today, and I'm out Mickey later, Mickey, Mickey, thanks
- 23:43Speaker 1: for the thanks for the recommendations, ask and I shall receive.
- 23:48Speaker 1: I appreciate that, all right. Jacqueline from the six ZHO
- 23:51Speaker 1: two rights in Hey, the Atari's cover of Don Henley's
- 23:54Speaker 1: Boys of Summer is far superior to his original. Jacqueline,
- 23:58Speaker 1: I don't know that I agree with that. I really
- 24:00Speaker 1: love Boys of Summer and I know that cover. It's good,
- 24:03Speaker 1: but superior, I don't know. I think you just like
- 24:07Speaker 1: the ataris better? Is that? Who that even is the ataris?
