- 0:00Speaker 1: Peckett and the gun moster to his right, start to
- 0:03Speaker 1: the far side.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Love receivers to the near side. Back goes Peckett. Here
- 0:07Speaker 2: comes the.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Rush again and he is hit and a case almost
- 0:12Speaker 1: fumbles the football.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I love those sack for Brandon Brown. B g got
- 0:15Speaker 2: him again. Two for Brandon Brown.
- 0:18Speaker 3: Has heard on ninety seven three ESPN. Melories might quick
- 0:21Speaker 3: on the call Brandon Graham. Two sacks will turn back
- 0:24Speaker 3: the clock for him. The defense pitches a shutout, will get.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Into their role in the win.
- 0:30Speaker 3: We're gonna explain the Eagles win over the Raiders thirty
- 0:33Speaker 3: one to nothing. Very efficient and uh you know a
- 0:37Speaker 3: probably one of the better performances for the offense all
- 0:40Speaker 3: season long. Twelve to fifteen, three touchdowns for Jalen Hurts
- 0:44Speaker 3: and of course Adam Kaplan is in for Jeff Moshert.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Today's Football at four powered by the Inside the Birds podcast,
- 0:50Speaker 3: which you can get on all podcasting platforms, And hey,
- 0:54Speaker 3: thirty one nothing. It should be this easy every week
- 0:56Speaker 3: at him right?
- 0:57Speaker 1: Hey, yeah, you know it's funny how to predict these
- 1:00Speaker 1: I couldn't do it, no, obviously we all picked on
- 1:04Speaker 1: our pregame show myself greg O Sell and Jeff Mosher,
- 1:07Speaker 1: we all picked the Eagles and we didn't think it
- 1:08Speaker 1: would be a problem. But it's hard to predict blowouts.
- 1:13Speaker 1: I was like, look, twelve and a half, depending which
- 1:15Speaker 1: book you were looking at, is a lot of points.
- 1:17Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:17Speaker 1: How the Eagles offensively been this season very disappointing. So
- 1:22Speaker 1: but the Raiders come into town winning conditions, their dome
- 1:26Speaker 1: team from out west, three different time zones, one PM Eastern.
- 1:30Speaker 1: They played like they were traveling. They just didn't play well.
- 1:33Speaker 1: The win was a factor, Mike. But the big thing
- 1:36Speaker 1: which really surprised me is that actually there are three things.
- 1:41Speaker 1: A the amount of hurts under center, the amount of
- 1:45Speaker 1: thirteen personnel Mike. They had three ten ends on the field, Mike,
- 1:51Speaker 1: four players on the first drive. Like, that's like not
- 1:53Speaker 1: something that they do, lots of twelve personnel. They just
- 1:57Speaker 1: they came to this game a knowing that they got
- 2:00Speaker 1: to get the running game go. And this is very clear.
- 2:02Speaker 1: We thought that was going to be the case coming in,
- 2:04Speaker 1: but this is crazy in terms of formation, variation, use
- 2:07Speaker 1: of personnel, and they were committed to it. The decent
- 2:10Speaker 1: result wasn't great, but better. You know, the last two
- 2:13Speaker 1: games you obviously had the big Barkley run, but overall
- 2:16Speaker 1: better than it had been. But they were like they
- 2:18Speaker 1: were so committed to run on the football and boy
- 2:22Speaker 1: did they control the clock.
- 2:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:24Speaker 3: You know, obviously you talk about the different formations, but
- 2:27Speaker 3: it helps when you actually, you know, are able to
- 2:31Speaker 3: execute things as well. They committed to running early, but
- 2:34Speaker 3: they were able to run because they executed up front,
- 2:37Speaker 3: and that set up a lot of big games in
- 2:39Speaker 3: the passing game as well.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yeah, that was the thing about the weather now that
- 2:43Speaker 1: you just didn't know that it hurts a smith on that
- 2:45Speaker 1: beautiful throw he had round for the touchdown on the crosser,
- 2:49Speaker 1: which is a great throw. He let him inside. There's
- 2:52Speaker 1: a time and throw got her had to drop the
- 2:54Speaker 1: touchdown pass. There were a couple of passes were hurts
- 2:57Speaker 1: didn't put it on the right shoulder at the correct shoulder,
- 2:59Speaker 1: or he was a little bit late. But still overall
- 3:02Speaker 1: he had a really good, solid game in a game
- 3:05Speaker 1: where they didn't have to throw because they got up
- 3:06Speaker 1: big early and they dominated. I really had a really
- 3:10Speaker 1: really good season. I adn't twited a touchdown in a while,
- 3:13Speaker 1: the first one in first ones in six games. But
- 3:15Speaker 1: you know, his usual has been up and he's done
- 3:18Speaker 1: a great job. I mean he hurts waiting myself entered
- 3:21Speaker 1: Checko and Jeff saw this Goddard and Hurts and training camp.
- 3:25Speaker 1: But we wondered, okay, we're going to be let down again. No,
- 3:28Speaker 1: Goddard has been a meaningful part of the passing game
- 3:30Speaker 1: and certainly needed.
- 3:31Speaker 3: To be Yeah, we looked at the numbers on Jalen Hurts.
- 3:34Speaker 3: By the way, you talk about Goddard, he was six
- 3:36Speaker 3: for six, seventy one yards, three touchdowns between the hash marks,
- 3:41Speaker 3: so he was working the middle of the field with
- 3:44Speaker 3: a lot of success there, sixty three completing sixty three
- 3:48Speaker 3: percent of his passes, you know, on the season against
- 3:52Speaker 3: the Chargers, excuse me, last week between the hash marks,
- 3:54Speaker 3: so he improved there. The run game, as we mentioned,
- 3:57Speaker 3: they had one hundred and eighty three yards on forty
- 4:00Speaker 3: seven carries. They ran the ball forty seven times. But
- 4:03Speaker 3: that's a product and so the lead there. I talked
- 4:06Speaker 3: about Goddard having the BEG game. He's the one guy
- 4:08Speaker 3: had to drop in the game. Other than that, I mean,
- 4:10Speaker 3: Hurts was nearly flawless in throwing the football, and you
- 4:13Speaker 3: saw a lot of different variations in creativity.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Do Yeah, you know what the thing and I mentioned
- 4:19Speaker 1: this on a posting show. You'll know what Hurts is
- 4:21Speaker 1: doing well. When he's decisive, it's he kind of throws
- 4:26Speaker 1: angry a little bit. It's like, hey man, I got it.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I'm feeling it. I say, Kirk Cousins, go throw this
- 4:30Speaker 1: when Cousin of his own a roll. Now, Hurts didn't
- 4:32Speaker 1: have to throw the ball out, but when he did,
- 4:34Speaker 1: he was mostly decisive. That's that's all you need him
- 4:36Speaker 1: to be. The past concepts are really good. They also
- 4:39Speaker 1: did some no huddle Mike. I think they did around
- 4:42Speaker 1: a dozen or a little bit less of no huddle,
- 4:45Speaker 1: which you like. They did his own replay Syriani and Patullo.
- 4:50Speaker 1: They brought it. I mean, you could say all you want,
- 4:52Speaker 1: it's the Raiders. That's fine, but that's not really the point.
- 4:55Speaker 1: You're looking for advanced concepts. They did it against the
- 4:58Speaker 1: Chargers the turn like that they would have won the game,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and then they beat down on the Raiders. They'll play
- 5:05Speaker 1: the Commando. Is this Saturday in Washington? Who want to
- 5:07Speaker 1: have Daniels? They're just looking up for the Eagles here.
- 5:10Speaker 1: But the other thing I want to ad before we get
- 5:12Speaker 1: the defense. That protection was good when hurt drop back.
- 5:15Speaker 1: You really like that. The also part of this, Mike,
- 5:18Speaker 1: is they designed a number of runs for him, probably
- 5:21Speaker 1: the most of the season. These were non scrambles. These
- 5:24Speaker 1: were actually design runs. Wasn't just the gun where they
- 5:28Speaker 1: go empty and they go four wide and he runs
- 5:31Speaker 1: up the middle. That's not what I mean. They actually had,
- 5:34Speaker 1: though there were some of those. There were a bunch
- 5:36Speaker 1: of design runs that was good to see. And it's
- 5:39Speaker 1: just kind of funny how you could see what they
- 5:42Speaker 1: were doing here. We felt they would kind of come
- 5:45Speaker 1: in trying to run, but it was like, Okay, well
- 5:47Speaker 1: the throw and they feel like they need to and
- 5:49Speaker 1: take a shot play here and there. But it was
- 5:52Speaker 1: very clear to me, Mike, they came in saying, we're
- 5:54Speaker 1: going to run the ball. We're going to see if
- 5:55Speaker 1: the Raiders could stop us, and they couldn't.
- 5:57Speaker 2: They couldn't.
- 5:57Speaker 3: By the way, Eagles under center thirty times in the
- 6:01Speaker 3: game yesterday, so a lot of under center stuff as well,
- 6:04Speaker 3: and I think that maybe helped Saquon Barkley out in
- 6:07Speaker 3: the run game as well. Second week in a row
- 6:09Speaker 3: for him over seventy five yards. He had more yard
- 6:11Speaker 3: yesterday than the entire Raider team. That's because the defense.
- 6:16Speaker 3: Let's get into the defense here. What were some of
- 6:18Speaker 3: the things that stood out about why this defense was
- 6:21Speaker 3: so good? And I get it, Kenny Pickett, the Raiders, YadA, YadA, YadA,
- 6:24Speaker 3: but they're an NFL team that has won games, not
- 6:27Speaker 3: a lot. But listen, they played Denver, you know, pretty
- 6:30Speaker 3: tough the week before.
- 6:32Speaker 1: It's right, Mike, when they lost it home in Chicago.
- 6:35Speaker 1: The defense was awful against the run. They just didn't
- 6:37Speaker 1: have the correct energy. They didn't play with great leverage,
- 6:41Speaker 1: had a lot of metal Earth that game. And obviously
- 6:42Speaker 1: after slow starting against the run against the Chargers, they
- 6:45Speaker 1: shut him down and they were dominant for three quarters.
- 6:48Speaker 1: This is just another game where they really weren't tested.
- 6:51Speaker 1: They did it without jailing Carter. That's actually very important.
- 6:54Speaker 1: I love that they were well rested time and bessession
- 6:57Speaker 1: was almost two to one. Mike, It's crazy. This is
- 7:01Speaker 1: you probably know the game was about two and a
- 7:03Speaker 1: half hours, which is crazy. Like this is, say, I
- 7:06Speaker 1: remember three and a half about to excusually three and
- 7:09Speaker 1: a half. I remember, well, yeah, technically from from it was.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Over it was over at three thirty. It was over
- 7:15Speaker 3: a three thirty six. Yeah, like two and a half hours, right,
- 7:18Speaker 3: it's actually two.
- 7:18Speaker 1: And a half hours to here. Yes, yes, But what
- 7:22Speaker 1: I texted Jeff, I said, hey man, this game is
- 7:24Speaker 1: gonna ended like three forty five, three fifty get ready,
- 7:26Speaker 1: And then it ended up before three thirty. I was
- 7:28Speaker 1: just dumbfounding, like how does this happen? Well, Mike, here's
- 7:31Speaker 1: what you love about defense. No one had more than
- 7:34Speaker 1: thirty nine snaps on defense, Like, that's unheard of. You
- 7:36Speaker 1: typically around fifty five to sixty on an average. Jale
- 7:40Speaker 1: at sut was terrific. Once again, he continues to improve.
- 7:43Speaker 1: He's been more of a run defender, but he's really
- 7:45Speaker 1: getting better as a pass rusher. This is insane that
- 7:49Speaker 1: Brandon Graham had seven snaps in two sacks. That's it's
- 7:53Speaker 1: crazy minute. And Jeff Jalen Phillips was a factor again
- 7:57Speaker 1: quality Russia's and I can't say this is a big story,
- 8:01Speaker 1: but it's a good positive story. But Duri Jackson continues
- 8:04Speaker 1: to play better. He's giving more confidence as once the
- 8:06Speaker 1: league sort of said to me, watch the tape, you'll
- 8:08Speaker 1: see a swacker. You could actually see it. I'm like, wow, Okay,
- 8:11Speaker 1: well there. Look they're playing with great energy right now.
- 8:14Speaker 1: They've got it going on. They'll get Carter back by
- 8:16Speaker 1: the playoffs. We just don't know exactly when he'll be back.
- 8:18Speaker 1: They're feeling pretty good about it right now. They played
- 8:21Speaker 1: well they're going to play. They'd be playing Marcus Mariota
- 8:24Speaker 1: this week, and they'll feel good about it. So you know, overall,
- 8:26Speaker 1: this is a really good team win. I know it
- 8:29Speaker 1: was the Raiders and they don't control who they play,
- 8:32Speaker 1: but the execution on both sides of the football was great.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I like to sum it up, Mike. I like that
- 8:38Speaker 1: Patullo's continue to bring new stuff out here. Twenty one Pony,
- 8:42Speaker 1: which is two running backs. You saw it, You've seen
- 8:45Speaker 1: it in recent weeks that did more of it. I
- 8:47Speaker 1: just wish they'd get Shipley the ball. I can't have
- 8:49Speaker 1: everything here, but I wish they get Shipley. Bond Ty Bisby,
- 8:53Speaker 1: I don't know. Look at least they used him, and
- 8:55Speaker 1: I understand it. He had to play because they pulled
- 8:57Speaker 1: blarkily early. Don't get carried on three point four yards
- 9:01Speaker 1: per carry, remember that includes short yards. The contact matters here.
- 9:04Speaker 1: He looked explosively a thirteen yard run. He looked really good.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I continue to say they got to use him more
- 9:11Speaker 1: of a change up to Barkley. Why can't you get him
- 9:13Speaker 1: five to seven carries a game normally? I just don't
- 9:16Speaker 1: know why. But good that he hit seventeen beaus. It
- 9:18Speaker 1: was a blowout, and it's always good when you know
- 9:22Speaker 1: the other team only seven first downs, you're probably gonna
- 9:24Speaker 1: be getting the ball back a lot to run the football.
- 9:26Speaker 1: And no, wen't see if there any pop up injuries.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Tomorrow's the first injury port after the walkthrough, but they
- 9:32Speaker 1: didn't have anyone listed in game with an injury.
- 9:35Speaker 3: All right, Adam kaplan, They're gonna get ready for Washington,
- 9:38Speaker 3: who obviously announced today that Jalen Jayden Daniels will be
- 9:42Speaker 3: shut down the rest of the year. So it is
- 9:44Speaker 3: Marcus Marry are they won this week against the Giants?
- 9:46Speaker 2: I think they've won two straight games.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Actually, Washington here, they played you in the NFC Championship
- 9:51Speaker 3: game one year ago, and obviously their season has gone
- 9:54Speaker 3: off the rail. So what is the practice getting ready
- 9:57Speaker 3: for them this week? On yet another short week.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He actually, by the way, watched to Mike just a
- 10:02Speaker 1: small correction. They got smoked. They didn't win to it Orthow.
- 10:05Speaker 1: They got smoked. They got shut out in Minnesota.
- 10:07Speaker 2: To the lost right.
- 10:11Speaker 1: If you watch the Hard Knocks, that's when Earth's towards ACL.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It's so heartbreaking sees Thatcho down like that non contact injury.
- 10:17Speaker 1: But yeah, so yeah, what they'll do is tomorrow it'll
- 10:21Speaker 1: be Tomorrow's a walkthrough, which we knew was going to happen.
- 10:23Speaker 1: You can't with how long the season, and Sirianni really
- 10:26Speaker 1: has a good feel for his team. Wednesday, I have
- 10:28Speaker 1: a practice their shape to practice it, and then they
- 10:31Speaker 1: have a walkthrough on Friday before they fly for Friday
- 10:34Speaker 1: afternoon to actually well they'll fly I think the dullest.
- 10:38Speaker 1: But remember the games in Landover, Maryland. That stadium is
- 10:41Speaker 1: the absolute worst. I don't know if you've ever been there, Mike,
- 10:44Speaker 1: the worst side sitelines in the National footbleager to watch
- 10:47Speaker 1: a game. It's so low it's really difficult to see,
- 10:51Speaker 1: and it's in the middle of nowhere. The way that
- 10:52Speaker 1: they have it, it's not like a round anything, you know,
- 10:55Speaker 1: kind of like the link, kind of like the link. Okay,
- 10:57Speaker 1: you know South Philly shopping whatever. You know, you have
- 11:00Speaker 1: some stuff around there exiting alive. But anyway, yeah, so
- 11:05Speaker 1: it's a shorter week. It's a game. They need it.
- 11:08Speaker 1: You know, they're trying to their magic numbers one to
- 11:10Speaker 1: win the division, which we know they're going to win.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Dallas somehow choked last night. They should have won that
- 11:14Speaker 1: game against the Vikings, and things are looking good for them.
- 11:18Speaker 1: I know, look, they don't compare, they don't control their
- 11:20Speaker 1: schedule night, but they're looking very good right now. With
- 11:24Speaker 1: what has happened to the Packers of Mikael Parsons, Mike
- 11:27Speaker 1: with no Patrick mcco, Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs a
- 11:31Speaker 1: he towards ACLB, they're not making it, and and he
- 11:36Speaker 1: might wind up having his first losing season with the
- 11:38Speaker 1: Chiefs if they if they don't win their final three games,
- 11:41Speaker 1: they'll have his first losing season as the chief says coach.
- 11:44Speaker 1: And they're also not making the playoffs only for the
- 11:46Speaker 1: second team the second time as Andes during any tenures,
- 11:50Speaker 1: which started in twenty thirteen. But it's really remarkable. This
- 11:53Speaker 1: season has been so of a data are in the
- 11:55Speaker 1: National Football League, and honestly, Mike, it's completely wide open.
- 11:59Speaker 1: The Rams got their secondary got absolutely housed. I guess
- 12:02Speaker 1: Stafford credit. Who is going to get my MVP vote
- 12:05Speaker 1: as it looks now for on Profile Broader Association Awards.
- 12:07Speaker 1: But right now, Mike, is completely wide open. If you
- 12:10Speaker 1: get in, you got a shot.
- 12:11Speaker 2: Yeah, well, the NFC is going to be wild.
- 12:13Speaker 3: Other than that NFC North South winner, the Carolina Tampa winner.
- 12:20Speaker 2: You probably can make a case that all six teams
- 12:21Speaker 2: have a shot.
- 12:23Speaker 1: You do, yes, and look Green Bay now without Parsons,
- 12:26Speaker 1: it's gonna be hard enough for them. And so what
- 12:29Speaker 1: happened to their defense? Boy that that was a great game.
- 12:31Speaker 1: By the way, that I give the bron this credit
- 12:34Speaker 1: right now, Mike, you you'd have to say Denver's the
- 12:36Speaker 1: best team they super long. Well, we're talking about if
- 12:40Speaker 1: we were just grading the teams. Denver right now has
- 12:43Speaker 1: got to be the best team at twelve and two.
- 12:44Speaker 1: They win dayishly, they win a lot of tight games.
- 12:48Speaker 1: But the defenses them and the Texans. I still don't
- 12:51Speaker 1: buy the Texans. I know, my man carry Rose and
- 12:53Speaker 1: Fox Sports raders kill me over it. I'm not buying
- 12:57Speaker 1: their offense. Defensively, their elite Josh Allen is unbelievable. What
- 13:01Speaker 1: he did yesterday. I don't know Salath Graves, but I
- 13:04Speaker 1: did picked Patriots to win the game. I cannot believe
- 13:07Speaker 1: what happened yesterday. I mean, I give Josh Allen's ridiculous
- 13:10Speaker 1: why he brings the team back. They're not really that
- 13:12Speaker 1: good defensively this year, but it's why I opened, Mike.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Like I said, Yeah, well, no Mahomes, no Mahomes, possibly
- 13:18Speaker 3: know Lamar Jackson.
- 13:19Speaker 2: This has got to be the year for Josh Allen.
- 13:21Speaker 1: This is crazy. Isn't that crazy? If you would have
- 13:24Speaker 1: told me that before the season to start, I would
- 13:25Speaker 1: have thought you were on drugs. It realistically happened. I mean,
- 13:30Speaker 1: I don't like Pittsburgh at all. I mean that they
- 13:32Speaker 1: should win tonight, but don't. I don't think they're very good.
- 13:34Speaker 1: But the teams don't know about you, Mike. As we
- 13:37Speaker 1: finish this off, teams I missed on with New England, YEP,
- 13:41Speaker 1: Jacksonville and Chicago.
- 13:43Speaker 2: Jacksonville definitely. Jacksonville definitely.
- 13:45Speaker 3: I think everybody looked at them and Liam Cohen coming
- 13:48Speaker 3: in kind of an unknown guy, you know, and then.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Chicago was kind of a wild card.
- 13:52Speaker 3: They're one that I mentioned a little bit because if
- 13:54Speaker 3: Ben Johnson could click with Caleb Williams. And the funny
- 13:58Speaker 3: part is Caleb hasn't really been It's not like he's
- 14:00Speaker 3: taking this huge step forward, but just having him, you know,
- 14:04Speaker 3: be the play caller there. They obviously have been a
- 14:06Speaker 3: disaster offensively basically in the history of that franchise, right,
- 14:10Speaker 3: the Bears have just never been good. But hey, real quick,
- 14:13Speaker 3: I know you got to get out of here. Andy
- 14:15Speaker 3: Reid sixty eight years old. How many more years for Andy?
- 14:18Speaker 3: That will be something interesting to see. We talked about, right,
- 14:21Speaker 3: the next revolution of this this cheap there are forty
- 14:25Speaker 3: five million dollars over the cap.
- 14:27Speaker 2: By the way, yeah, what.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Cap you can fix? I mean he could. It's not
- 14:29Speaker 1: hard to clean it up with more structures. But their
- 14:33Speaker 1: big problems they did not have a good offseason, Mike
- 14:35Speaker 1: and Free.
- 14:36Speaker 2: They haven't drafted well in a couple of years.
- 14:38Speaker 1: No, the refeat just really good to play with Matt
- 14:40Speaker 1: Naggie Delaware, but they had a rough off season. They
- 14:44Speaker 1: over address their offensive line. It really didn't help them.
- 14:46Speaker 1: Mahmes had a let's save the injury to the side here,
- 14:49Speaker 1: but Mames didn't have a good season. He didn't played
- 14:51Speaker 1: great last year. But he was the magic man whenever
- 14:54Speaker 1: he was kind of like remember when John Alway when
- 14:56Speaker 1: we were going up, Yep, John Alway, they'd have a
- 14:58Speaker 1: bad freak courter and bring the team back. Was doing
- 15:00Speaker 1: that for years. Couldn't do it this season.
- 15:02Speaker 3: All right, Adam Kaplan. Of course we got the Eagles
- 15:05Speaker 3: and the Commanders. We'll be talking about that later on
- 15:08Speaker 3: this week, right here with Football at four. Thanks Adam
- 15:11Speaker 3: got He jumps in for Mosher who will be on
- 15:13Speaker 3: tomorrow's Football at four for you here on the Sports
- 15:16Speaker 3: batt
