Munnelly Pleads Guilty in Athlone Tragedy | Cork News
Thirty-nine-year-old Sean Munnelly has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the fatal attack on Paul Connolly during a stag night in Athlone in August 2022. Though initially trying to de-escalate a fight, Munnelly allegedly followed Connolly after he tried to leave the scene and struck him, causing fatal injuries. CCTV footage helped reconstruct the tragic sequence of events. Another man, David Higgins, received a one-year sentence for assaulting Connolly in the same incident. Munnelly’s sentencing is adjourned until October 6th, with a victim impact statement pending. He remains in custody…
