- 0:07SPEAKER_00: As we talk to that kind of warrior store, if you will, or the hero story, I spent too many years reinventing the damn wheel, man.
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: You don't have to reinvent anything.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: There is so why am I not doing it?
- 0:19SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: And what it comes back to is that what I talked about earlier about in that word integrity with your own words and yourself.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Comparison is the ultimate distraction and road to nowhere.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: Because what does comparison do?
- 0:30SPEAKER_01: I mean, you you at least put a positive spin.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Terrible, terrible idea.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but I had tried to have a VA from Egypt uh not only cold call but close the deals, negotiate the deals with the sellers, just basically trying to automate it all, which is possible, but probably one shouldn't be overseas, most likely, and two shouldn't be done as early as I was trying to do it.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: You know, you need to build up the experiences.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Hey guys, welcome back to the Reborn Podcast with Tony Beatros, where we get the opportunity to interview faith-driven uh business people and entrepreneurs and founders.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: And uh today I am uh blessed to have uh John Murphy here, MJW Mortgage CRO and co-founder.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: And our co-founder, right?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we we'll cover all of this for sure.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Okay, vice president, yeah.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Um doing a lot of good work in the Indianapolis market.
- 1:25SPEAKER_01: Uh we're gonna go a bit into his story, how he got to uh got to this table, uh, and then we will dive into what uh NJW is doing and uh where the Lord is leading John and in his season of life right now.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: So, John, thank you for being here.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no doubt.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I appreciate the opportunity, man.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: It's awesome.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so I think this is the first time that we're really even connecting in person.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: You know, we're we're in the same market, so you know it's it's interesting, but uh a lot of mutual connections.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Um, Tyler Langle, uh namely.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Um, but tell me, tell the audience a bit about who you are, what your background is, um you know, both personal and business.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Like how how did you end up in this office?
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: This yeah, no doubt.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: So kind of what I call is my origin story, if you will, and and it's a little bit different than most.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, I describe myself as a kid who is too loved by his mom as a child.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: So I was uh very self-confident and believed in myself when I had no actual proof to do that.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: And the only way you can get to that point is when your mom just like loves you and tells you you're special and you're really not.
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: So it took me a little bit to kind of marry my self-confidence with my actual confidence in the marketplace.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: It took a while.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: So my my faith uh really journey, if you will, origin story was before birth.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: I am from very, very, very, very catechized grandparents and great-grandparents.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: My dad actually was a priest for two full years, and then he he he felt the calling to have a family and ended up having four kids.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: So before I was born, this legacy of prayer has been going through me.
- 3:02SPEAKER_00: But like most Catholics, I went through a phase where I just opted out, didn't practice, let my uh my Catholic faith go by the wayside.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: But really, what transpired is as the more and more I had my children, and as each time I baptized them, there's this overarching belief that I feel like is my kind of hero story, which is are you gonna be the guy for your kids that followed through with his goals, taught them the way of what a really meaningful, maybe not uh uh maybe not as happy and joyful and Instagram-worthy life, but really a life filled with being catechized the right way, why why we believe what we believe in the true peace and solidarity that comes from that that paradigm of looking at your life versus the life I kind of committed to, which was about material items, uh building out my uh outside in, which is hey, you you accomplished something and you and you validate yourself through those accomplishments.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: So um, yeah, and it ties into work and business and it all goes together.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: But truly, I I I thank my parents and and and really working on, hey, here here's the path that you can lead that will bring you the most peace and joy.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: And if you fall, but but in the modern world, it's very hard to get it's it's very hard.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't say get.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: I said the word verb would be, and we call it in the Catholic Church, being catechized or really knowing how to uh practice faith, use faith, and create a community that really becomes a rewarding life.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: Because so often our parents just was wake up Sunday morning, get your clothes on, get to church.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Don't don't want to be don't want to hear about it, get there.
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: So it was almost like a punishment versus learning why we believe what we believe and having as really a tool.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: So when you're going through tough times or dark path paths, you really have a place you can go to uh almost self-console through God and realizing it's not up to you and that life isn't a race and life isn't a contest, and it's really not about what you accomplish, and it's truly about having that that kind of relationship with God and also the community that brings it from that.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: That's where you get your peace and strength from, versus this idea of the modern world, which is hey, this is just a we're a speck of dust spinning on a planet in the middle of the middle of the universe.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: So it ties a lot into business, but that's really really how it started with the faith journey for me.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: And uh it's been rewarding because now that my kids are growing up, I'm really trying to teach them why we believe what we believe, and then more importantly, how to utilize prayer and how you can utilize that as to make the lens of the principles you make your life decisions by.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: Because I went to the uh I'd call it the uh the journey of doing most things wrong and very painful and hard lessons learned that could have been totally avoided.
- 5:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, if I would have been more patient and thoughtful with my actions.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot to talk about, but I'll but I'll start there that that ultimately uh I'm a I'm a person at Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
- 5:53SPEAKER_00: The church has a phenomenal job and and really does a great job, Father Richard.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: Um, is awesome, and and it's really been great for all my kids.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: And uh two of my my daughter, my son's in first grade, my daughter's in kindergarten, and the other two kids will go there soon.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: They go to St.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Elizabeth Seton at like 106 in Keystone now.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: So I'm lucky.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, man.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: I I had no idea when you came in here that uh that this was gonna be the conversation, but you know, something that I'm I'm hearing the Lord tell me right now is uh I'm I'm a Protestant and you're a Catholic.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: And um, you know, I think between the those two worlds, we we both serve the same God, but a lot of a lot of people on each side uh discriminate against the other side and like they don't seek to understand.
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: So if it's okay with you, I would love to just hear you know an explanation of like one, I don't know what what the word catecized or catechized means.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Catechized, yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: Catechized.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: Uh and then two, just your belief uh as a as a Catholic, if that's okay with you.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no doubt.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: So so one of the hardest parts for me about it is this, and I didn't realize from a young age, but so I used to I have a lot of friends, and I and I always like to meet new people.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: That's when one of my God's gifts or superpowers is always my ability to make friends.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: But what I didn't realize about religion is how many people have opinions about the Catholic Church.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: So, for example, I was playing basketball in a basketball league and I cussed in the church, and the whole court stopped.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: And a guy came over and said, We do not cuss or curse in the Lord's house.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: And then I go, holy ish, oh, I'm so sorry.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: I was like frustrated with myself.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: So as I look at it, here's how my view of it is.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: I'm not out here trying to compete with people about religion.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, mine is very much of a self-serving journey because of the consistent position I put myself in my life, which is one of where I'm stacking it on, I'm piling on the stress with no real way to figure it out.
- 7:56SPEAKER_00: And it's kind of like my investing strategy.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: I just I just keep reinvesting every dollar.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: There's no end game for me.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: There should be, right?
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: I think about that, but I keep doing deals, buying stuff, looking up new opportunities, investing in people on my team, and really doing my best but to lead by example.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: But as you talk through this kind of narrative, especially as 22 and I'm 42, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: What I see is that there's there's a whole generation of people looking for their why.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: And and I don't know how to put the finger on it.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: Because some people say, Oh, it's this generation, they're so different, you can't teach them anything, they're lazy.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: This other people will just say, Oh, that religion stinks, or this is what's wrong with it, or here a point in front of it.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: For here's my thing, man.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: I'm so focused on my stuff, like my life, and and like, you know, like kind of like my kids like pro-athletes and stuff, and and and living a good life, that I'm not, I'm not really, I'm not out there to compare.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: And I feel very lucky that my parents um were Catholic and they they gave me this experience.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Because for me, I I would never like when you talk to that, I'm not the guy that is like, oh, it's I'm like, hey man, uh the best joke I've ever heard about uh when you get into heaven and you're getting the tour, is that uh there's a bunch of different rooms, right?
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: And there's these different religions in there.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: So uh the first room, it's really quiet, and uh it's the uh it's the Baptist.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: And as the as you're getting the the tour, uh the angel giving you tour says, Hey, be really quiet.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: They think no one else is here, right?
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: So as you think about being Catholic, here's my point: more the merrier, man.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Come on in, dude.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: We'll we'll take you as you are.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: The reason I bring up catechized and being Catholic and cat and really teaching people why we're Catholic is for my own children of using faith in a way of utility.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: Because so often when you ask people why they're atheist and why they don't believe in God, it's like this.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: What's the point?
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: What's the point, man?
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I'm broke, dude.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: God's done nothing for me.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: My family's my parents got divorced when I was little.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: What about all these things, right?
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: And I'm the victim here.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: God isn't looking out for me, right?
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: Have you ever heard that?
- 10:04unknown: Yeah.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Why would I believe in God?
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: So for me, it's the other extreme of thinking about through the Bible and how we can teach my kids the right way to look at it and how faith is that glue to the peace that we really all want, right?
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: Because you can't control if you're happy or you're sad, right?
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: You can't control, well, well, I got lucky or you know, so often now when you talk about younger people, they all talk about wanting billionaires when they don't even, they're not even like thousandaires yet.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: But when you really think about these things, so much of it is luck and chance, right?
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: To be a billionaire.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: But with God's grace, there it's not chance, man.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's this whole thing about like when you look at like you look at the world and you're like, oh, this just happened to be some molecules all pieced together uh that just happened in in this universe and it's just totally random.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, no, dude.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: There has to be a starting point for these things.
- 10:55SPEAKER_00: So where I'm going with it is that to kind of change it and put that put the piece on its head.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: I'm indifferent what what anybody else wants to believe, right?
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: I'm like, hey man, I hope you have the the faith and peace because I can tell you this, it leads to a fulfilling life.
- 11:08SPEAKER_00: When you realize it's not up to you and that it's not your ability to conquer the universe, right?
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: And and and you're gonna die and you're not gonna make it through, and one day you will be gone.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: And how do you arm your kids to have a peaceful life without you?
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: And that's how you create a great, in my mind, a great relationship with your family, is that we all believe this, not for the purpose of to of to convince and change the world, but really from a standpoint of like, hey, this is the this is the this is the true path that I've found for me and my family.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: But I'm never gonna sit here and convince somebody because I've learned that the hard way, like with my sales team.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, if anybody works for me, I have a lot of acronym, a little, lots of uh uh I wouldn't say acronyms, I would say uh like sayings that I say, right?
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: I've got like the trademark of who needs a mortgage, uh, out prospect your problems.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: We're not, we're uh we're not either or we're we're uh we're both, right?
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: We do it all.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: But where I go with these things is that it's such from a place of abundance, because what we all forget is just how lucky we all are have it to be here.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: And we we take for granted the breath in our lungs, we take for granted the ability to walk and and be pain-free, the ability to have another day, the ability to hug someone and be like, hey man, thanks for the opportunity to put me on the reborn pod, right?
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: That's what life's about.
- 12:25SPEAKER_00: Life is not about this idea of conquering, I'm gonna make, I'm gonna make such an impact on the universe.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah that's not why you're here, dude.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: It's not why you're here, you know?
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Now we're all special, but but we we we put that frame in this materialistic how much money I'm making comparison versus realizing there's more than enough out there for everybody, yeah, and it's not a zero-sum game.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: And it ties into faith, dude, and God, and like ever present and looking out for you.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Like, I can give you 50 examples where it's like straight God's grace shit, dude.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: Like insanity.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: So how do you balance being a high performer with being rooted in God's grace and and and and God?
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: Dude, first things first, like it's it's hate the sin, not the sinner, right?
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Being rooted is an impossibility, in my opinion, for where I'm at right now.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: I do my best, but something's gotta give, right?
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Like, there's not a lot of balance right now with what I got going on with family, kids, and and trying to make you know, having a spiritual plan.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: I think one of the hardest parts that most of us do, and I talk about this a lot, is when we look at our schedule, it's filled with too many things that are up for negotiation.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Think about most people's day.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: Everything is negotiable.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: What's for breakfast?
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: I don't know, what sounds good to you?
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Chibole?
- 13:42SPEAKER_00: Some restaurant doesn't make me feel good, right?
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Everything is up for negotiation, right?
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Uh am I gonna work out today?
- 13:48SPEAKER_00: Am I gonna pray today?
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Am I gonna uh am I gonna make my calls today?
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: My prospecting calls, am I gonna follow up that prospect today, right?
- 13:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, where if you really think about execution at the highest level, it's only doing a few things at a high clip.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: So what I mean by that is you only really need four lenses, and this is how I look at it.
- 14:06SPEAKER_00: You got health, wealth, relationships, and then your spiritual life.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: One of the hardest parts about my life that I've never had is because I'm such a uh I'm such a a doer of things, that that spiritual life on uh as we talk through God is not something like how do you what is your spiritual plan for 2026?
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: And then the best question you always gotta ask yourself is does your schedule, is your schedule reflective of that?
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: What does God ask for us in return?
- 14:35SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: Like have you ever been at like when I'm at church and I see like uh you know, you see uh Jesus on the cross, you think, like so, so if I do believe in God and I do believe you know Jesus was his only son that died for our sins, yeah, what am I willing to give to that same God?
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Like as I hold my little baby boy.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: Dude, that's flesh and blood.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: You know, you can like with your kids and are little, like you, you can't, like you look at your own hand now, you're like, oh, it's like a big paw or something like that.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: You touch your little hand, your kid's hand, you're like, oh my gosh.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:04SPEAKER_00: And then you you think about those those moments.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: So to this framework, when we talk through you know, health, wealth, relationships, and we can talk about all this, but most people's to-do list is so long and so crazy that when you actually open up, and this same thing's true for me, you open up your people's phones, tell you who you really are.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: We all spend too much time do doom scrolling, we've spent too much time looking for meaning outside of ourselves versus what's already in us, right?
- 15:29SPEAKER_00: We negotiate uh what we have no we have no integrity with our words to ourselves.
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: What do we say?
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: I'm fat.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: You always do that.
- 15:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, you you don't keep your word, you're so stressed out, right?
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: You say those words and you're like, oh, Philip Cortisol come and you're like, heart rate goes a break.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's not good.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: Versus like, what's God say, right?
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be okay.
- 15:50SPEAKER_00: We got a plan.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, my son died for you.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Like, when you repeat those things, it gets emotional because you're like, I in my set head in my busy modern world put all that stuff to the side, versus recognizing that, dude, you're blessed, dude.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Like the fact you're in America, you can make so much money and do all these things and not as much effort and in in that most people think.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: Because here's the thing if you live 90 years, it takes you about eight to twelve years to get really good and make good money at something, right?
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: The problem is most of us, and if you look at like most people's careers, it's a series of start and stops for 50 years, dude.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: Think about it.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Hey, I was a realtor once.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Have you heard that one?
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: I was a realtor once.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: I sold insurance, right?
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: The hard lesson, what you what the young guy doesn't know is there's no bad business.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: But back to all of this where we're going like about talking about God and faith and things like this.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: Who does God reward, right?
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: The faithful.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: The faithful, dude.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: The people who say, hey man, I gotta get in there and pray and ask for forgiveness.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: I didn't do the right thing.
- 16:55SPEAKER_00: It's it's like the thing, and and this is like kind of a controversial subject, it's like the immigration issue.
- 17:00SPEAKER_00: All these people who are fighting for immigration, hey, let them know this.
- 17:04SPEAKER_00: Have you ever seen all the all the guys who go around to the rallies and say, hey, hey, I have a sign-up sheet um for we have the we have the immigrants here and they want a place to live.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Can they move in with you at your house?
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: What would God say?
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 17:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude.
- 17:21SPEAKER_00: So that's what I'm saying about this when you think about the life of the difficulty as we talk through that spiritual common of our life and to your question.
- 17:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's tough, dude.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: But but what are your limits of it?
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Because you have to beg the question, what are God's limits for us?
- 17:34SPEAKER_00: He's ready to give his son so we can be forgiven.
- 17:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: It's some wild stuff.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: When you actually speak it, you kind of like how am I thinking, right?
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: So it's kind of a for me, it's a little bit scary to say that stuff out loud.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Because it's not to it's not to convince people, it's to be a reminder to myself that, like, hey man, I'm I'm getting older.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: I remember when I was 22, I wasn't sitting in here doing podcasts, I was trying, I could show YouTube videos, but yeah, you know, it it's kind of wild to think about.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I appreciate you saying all that.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you you mentioned it's hard right now to be rooted.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: Um do you feel like right now you're in a season where uh you know work and you know, balancing, like you said, to four buckets, health, wealth, relationships, those three are kind of shifting to where uh your spirituality, your uh your faith is kind of being pushed out of the time.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: I I would say the other extreme, I would say it's this.
- 18:38SPEAKER_00: This last 90 days has just been a little bit too much for me.
- 18:41SPEAKER_00: I if I told about all of it, it it'd be a bad clip.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: You'd be like, be like, all right, hot shot, chill out.
- 18:46SPEAKER_00: But but I just say it goes in waves.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: But every time I go through these waves where I stack it, right?
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Like I got a new investment that I can't make up.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: I was flipping a house, and a guy gave me a great business opportunity where I'll make uh, you know, I'll probably double, quadruple my money in less than three or four years, and and it'll keep growing, getting bigger.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: What's different about John Murphy than anybody else that they can't find that opportunity, right?
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Uh so as I talk through the season, I keep getting these blessings that come in, like my biggest uh transaction I've ever bought real estate deal closes Friday.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Nice, cool, right?
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: But old me would be like texting about it, preaching.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the new me is like, hey, that's another day, that's just another day, that's just how you're old.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so the hard part for me with it is is that when uh when when uh you repeat something so much, it just becomes part of your life, and sometimes I don't think that piece is I'm definitive enough in my schedule.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Like um, like there's just a lot of opportunities to pray for people and care and and reach out, and that's what I'm saying.
- 19:46SPEAKER_00: Like this last 60 days have kind of ratchet up a little too hard.
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: But it but it's almost about rolling out, it's getting easier, right?
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: When I think, I mean, obviously it's you know it's clear that you've been called to business, yeah, right.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: So w one revelation I've had recently is that we are called to be servants and to serve our neighbor, uh, which is anyone that we come in contact with, but at the same time, we also need to stay on mission, we also need to protect our own hearts, yeah.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: And we're called to love our neighbor as ourselves, which inherently means we love ourselves first.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: So for going out and let's say you know we barely have room for ourselves in our house, it might not be very loving to you know sign up for that sheep, right?
- 20:30SPEAKER_01: In instances like that.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: But um, so I think it's just a balance of like you said, serving and in in different capacities, praying for people, stuff like that, but also staying on mission with you know, specifically in business.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Um, so yeah, and in the wild part for this though, is like I'll say this about like all the stuff I've learned is is like at 42, I finally feel like I'm trying to be an entrepreneur since basically age, I don't know, nine, because I was really bad.
- 21:04SPEAKER_00: I finally feel like I've gotten all the mistakes out of my system that I know to be calm, I know to be t have temperance, I know that uh like back to like uh about being faithful and just focus on the main thing.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: Because like, dude, I got a temper, I got a big old ego that's my enemy, right?
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: Because it gets in the way, like you say things sometimes and you're frustrated that you don't even mean, and then you just regret it.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, um, I've got a lot of shortcomings.
- 21:28SPEAKER_00: Like I can be ADD and people are like, dude, did you just really email me that?
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: I'm like, yeah.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: Like, why why?
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: But sometimes that's what you gotta do.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Uh, but it but as you think about it all here, here's here's if we really we really pull it out and we talk about um about life in general, is is the piece for me is this, and this is my frame, and this this is this is kind of if you talk about the the bedrock we just covered about God, we talk through that next level.
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: My entire kind of personal mission statement is that for my kids, when they're my age, I want them never to be like, hey, my My dad was a guy who always said something and didn't do it.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: I want them to know that I'm that champion.
- 22:05SPEAKER_00: That they're like, dude, my dad was that guy.
- 22:07SPEAKER_00: My dad said he was going to do this stuff and he did it, right?
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: So, like, if my kid's like, Dad, would you ever post a lot of stuff on social media?
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: I'm like, brother, go back and look at 2025.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: I posted it, dude.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: I just blew up the internet.
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: If it's if it's doing real estate deals, I don't ever want to be the person because this is what I don't want to be.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: I don't want to be shoulda, woulda, coulda guy.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: When I'm about to die, I don't want to be like, man, I should have, should have bought the business.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: I should have hired the guy.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: I should have uh bought the real estate deal.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be the other guy.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: I'm like, dude, it did it all.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I'll tell you this, it ain't that cool.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: So you don't need to do it anyways idea.
- 22:40SPEAKER_00: That's kind of my that's kind of my frame that I look at it for my kids.
- 22:44SPEAKER_00: And then and then upon upon that, the the most important thing I think for all of us is this is that you just gotta pick like three things, right?
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: You gotta pick some kind of job, right?
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: And it doesn't have to be business, just something.
- 22:56SPEAKER_00: You gotta pick something to love, right?
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: And then you gotta you gotta own your piece of it because most of us come to the table, we're so jacked up that we like say these statements, I guess, I gotta find my person.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: What the hell does that even mean, brother?
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: You gotta find somebody who wants to work on it with you, right?
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: You gotta have a mutual commitment, yeah, right?
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: But but to my point here of what I'm getting about all this stuff when we talk about this frame, is that so much of us build this story and this narrative in our head what life is gonna look like or gonna be.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: And the reality is a fulfilling life is built by a series of getting buried in the dirt and getting basically messing up and making mistakes.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: And back to that faith piece, you go back and got for asked for that.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: Hey, I need some wisdom here.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: I need a I need a tribe of guys who's gonna build me up.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Because that's what I feel like now is that so many people are so lonely.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: And people don't want to believe in God, they watch TV and Instagram and let think all these people have this magical better life for them when it's just a mirage, it's just BS.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: And that they feel helpless because they don't think they can learn these tactical skills to actually make an impact in the marketplace and improve their life.
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: So that that's kind of my sense on on the whole the whole dynamic of what I see with kind of younger people today.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of my my frame, if you will, for all of it when I look at my kids.
- 24:14SPEAKER_00: Because that's all that's all I'm really worried about.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: It's like my kids, my family, my crew, and then you know, kind of those are the building blocks I kind of focus on.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: Got it.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: So now uh being a real estate investor, are you are you are you also buying businesses?
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: You said I'll do a little bit of that like from an investing standpoint, right?
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: Passively.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: I mean, here's what I'll say like so back to this.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: So let's talk to what most people, young people people like talk about making money.
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: You like money.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: You said some early, you said something about earlier that was like, dude, don't hate on your dad.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: I like money, I don't love money.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, whatever you I guarantee if I showed you, you'd show me some you love some money.
- 24:50SPEAKER_00: But but what I'd say is this uh there's so many money myths, and and the number one money myth is that people think they're so deserving of the money they crave, and they always forget this.
- 25:03SPEAKER_00: And this is like if this is the clip point of the whole video, you always gotta tell yourself this.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: The most successful people have been through way harder shit and they keep going.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Like when you think about massive stress, like I think about what used to stress me out, doesn't even faze me.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: But when you think about like the nth degree, like you think about really, really successful people, like people with thousands of employees, like that own millions of square feet, have all these different businesses, they conquer all these the business world, they still could be miserable.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: And and this is not to persuade young people, but it's that the shift has to go from realizing like you're gonna be really bad for a long period of time, and you just gotta keep showing up and and just don't negotiate on that said thing, right?
- 25:50SPEAKER_00: And the second piece that happens to a lot of young guys too is they don't chase a big enough opportunity.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: The business they're in sucks, like that business will never get you where you want to go, right?
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: Because your transaction size is too slow, right?
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: Like that's what happens like with most wholesalers.
- 26:05SPEAKER_00: They go wholesale to maybe development because they they they got a high risk tolerance, right?
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: And you want to you want to change, get out of earned income to uh you know passive, right?
- 26:14SPEAKER_00: Get those losses down and get some more cash flow.
- 26:17SPEAKER_00: So there's a lot of things to talk about this when it comes to being successful, when it comes to financial.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: That has been one of my kind of hobbies, if you will, or addictions, whichever you want to call it.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: So, okay, so now earlier you had said there's no bad business, and now some businesses suck.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: So talk talk to me about that.
- 26:35SPEAKER_00: So this is the this is the paradigm, though.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: So let's talk through this journey, right?
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: So let's talk through, let's say this is your journey.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: You're 18 years old, you're out of high school, you're going into college.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: So you you do four years in college, what do you what do you do?
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: You drink about 50 to 100 beers a week, right?
- 26:50SPEAKER_00: You you do a bunch of wild stuff, you have all these theories, you and your buddies bond over the the bruise about we're gonna take over the world, and then what happens?
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: What happens?
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: You go to the real world, it shows up, and guess what it does?
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: Cuts you at the knees.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: Hey man, you're not actually cool.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: You were cool with your crew, in your crew, in that context, in that safe place.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: The real world's like, hey man, can you even talk to people, dude?
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: Hey, your first job, like you move to a new city.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: How do you make friends?
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: How do you make a living in a city?
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Like, so so back to me, back to me always talking about my stuff and my family, and back to my paradigm and this weird stuff, and I'll get to where I'm going about good business, bad business.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: You parachute into any city.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: I want my kids to have the skill set to have a church, great place for community.
- 27:36SPEAKER_00: Number two, be able to make a living, right?
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: And then be able to you know physically provide for themselves food, nutrition, yeah, health, right?
- 27:42SPEAKER_00: Like, like you don't need a gym to get jacked, right?
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Herschel Walker did a thousand push-ups today, you'll get pretty strong.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so where I'm going about the business piece, though, is that what happens in the beginning is you chase too small of an opportunity of a business, right?
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Like if your average commission is 500 bucks, yeah, it's really hard to make 500 grand, 300 grand, 200 grand, right?
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Where if your average commission is 100 or 200,000, but then the sales cycle is three years, equally as hard.
- 28:10SPEAKER_00: But what happens with all of it is that it just comes down to the speed of the money.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: There is no bad business from the standpoint of you can make money at any business.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: But it comes, you have to define what your parameters are at which career and vocation.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 28:23SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: So if you want to be a billionaire, you're probably not going to do it as a uh as a as a mortgage broker or as a wholesaler.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: But if you want to be the biggest lender in the United States, like we can give you some examples of lenders who did it, and they cast a bigger vision where they're like, hey, I want to be number one.
- 28:39SPEAKER_00: How are you going to get there?
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: That's where you have to change that kind of how you're operating that business.
- 28:44SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm getting at here.
- 28:45SPEAKER_03: Got it.
- 28:45SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense for that lens what I was talking about?
- 28:47SPEAKER_00: There's no bad, like it's not like, oh, cleaning house is a bad business, right?
- 28:51SPEAKER_00: But there is there's size of it where you're where you're gonna struggle to do it.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Reverse engineering from the end goal to where you are now.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: And like, think about this.
- 28:59SPEAKER_00: Like, like, have you ever seen any interviews with Jimmy John?
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: No.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: Okay, this is wild.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Who's that?
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Jimmy John sandwiches.
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, got it.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: So here's what's wild.
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: So, like when you go to a Jimmy John's, you're like, wait a second, there's like no fryer, there's like no big like they cook bread.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: Do you know why?
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: Because his dad only gave him 15,000 to start his first location, and he had no money to buy kitchen equipment.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: So he said, Well, what am I gonna do to start my restaurant?
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: I guess I'm gonna make sandwiches, right?
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so I don't have to cook the meat, I don't have to think about that, right?
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: Versus some restaurants that you see do it.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: Next thing, he's only selling these sandwiches uh for what five, ten, fifteen bucks.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but guess what he did to the business once he figured it out?
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: He sold the franchise for 300,000.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so if he sold 20 franchises in a year, six million.
- 29:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:53SPEAKER_00: See where I'm going here with that?
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: Where you can you can deconstruct these things.
- 29:57SPEAKER_00: So when you're young and watching and thinking about all these things, that's when I say there's no bad businesses.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: It's about there's just bad business people.
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: And most of us are naive to how bad we are at these things.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: And that's back to having this faith and having this realization of like, hey, I'm I I don't need to be a pioneer in business.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I need to befriend these people and use every ethical advantage I can get to do whatever chosen vocation I'm win.
- 30:23SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that's all.
- 30:28SPEAKER_01: You mentioned uh the the importance of and really the reality of life being essentially eating the dust over and over and over again.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Uh talk to me about your journey with doing that throughout your career.
- 30:41SPEAKER_01: You've been in uh mortgage industry for a long time.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: A long time.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah, since basically 2010, 16 years.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: So, but my entrepreneurial journey started just like most people, cutting grass, right?
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: Uh doing some other side businesses, selling magazines in middle school.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: Um, but but ultimately what what really was when I got 100% commission outside sales job, and I taught I was taught the craft of being a salesperson.
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: Because I think it's the single greatest skill you can teach an individual.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: And what it really shows you is that there's a skill to selling that you can go in any marketplace if you have the desire and the skill to create a living out of thin air.
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: One of the reasons why selling is so important at every point in your career, whether you have your selling business consumer, business to business, uh uh direct response marketing, writing ad copy, you know the trigger points to getting people to respond and feeling out how to make convincing someone to do what you want, right?
- 31:38SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: So what happens when when when I learned when I was in selling is that if I said this, not that, I could get a higher ticket amount, higher sale price.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: If if I made outbound calls and changed my tonality and matched their energy, I could set more appointments with an equal more money, right?
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: But it was one of the first times I truly saw for the first time in my life about cause and effect.
- 32:00SPEAKER_00: And what I learned is if I make enough outbound dials and I set enough appointments and I ask enough people and suggest them buying my things, I can make way more money.
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and it finally broke me free from the hardest paradigm in life, which is a profit versus a wage.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: Are you familiar with this concept?
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: Okay, so when you're young, you exchange time for money, right?
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: Like I gotta shout out my kid.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: So my uh my brother's daughter came up with this great idea about um here, let me see here.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Came up with this great idea, and she said, I have a perfect business idea for your son, right?
- 32:36SPEAKER_00: Okay, so I said, I love this idea.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: So I put this in chat GPT.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: Can you see this?
- 32:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you see this over there, cameraman?
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: JJ's box breakdown service.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: And what what you have to learn really quick about making more money is to unlock true wealth, you have to break free from exchanging time for money.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: A profit versus a wage is this.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: You make one sale, you make a thousand dollars.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: When I used to make try to make a thousand dollars a week, I got to make$25 an hour.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:09SPEAKER_00: So for me to make the income goals I want, I never could do it.
- 33:13SPEAKER_00: So early on, when I showed why I created that for my son is deconstructing this relationship that time invested equals a wage.
- 33:20SPEAKER_00: Because that's the first paradigm to wealth that nobody talks about, is that you can't outwork the 24 hours in the day if your wage right is a certain amount.
- 33:29SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 33:30SPEAKER_01: No.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: So think about it.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: You learn my first job at Dairy Queen at 71st, where my old house was, 71st Allonsville, paid 425.
- 33:39SPEAKER_00: And what my goal was, how can I make more money?
- 33:42SPEAKER_00: And so from my first till age what, 14, when I could start working until uh you know, 17 was generally you make a certain amount of dollars per hour, right?
- 33:52SPEAKER_00: And that is how you make wealth.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 33:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and that's what I started when I started learning about real estate, is I started seeing that you can get that passive income from real estate where it it breaks free of that paradigm.
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 34:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:05SPEAKER_00: So for example, now I have 30 some odd properties.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: So it equals like 46k a month in gross rents.
- 34:11SPEAKER_00: So if all my mortgages are, I can't remember what the exact number are, but let's say the mortgages are 30 grand a month, right?
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: I'm making 16,000 a month with an hour or two in it.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: So as we talk through uh about all of this, about getting leverage in in my kind of journey, is that that is the first paradigm that going to outside sales taught me in getting beat up, is that I realized there is a way, but it just took way longer to get what I wanted than I thought it would.
- 34:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 34:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:42SPEAKER_00: And that's what really going into outside sales 100% commission teaches you that skill set and that journey.
- 34:47SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 34:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know if that was helpful to answering the question.
- 34:52SPEAKER_01: That makes sense.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: Because a lot of people won't call people.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: Have you noticed that?
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:56SPEAKER_00: Like especially in wholesaling real estate.
- 34:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 35:00SPEAKER_01: I mean, the thing with wholesale real estate too is that most people that get into it are, you know, the the age that I was when I got into it, basically.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, I I think I was like 19 or 20 when I got into it.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: And so they're starting with no money, but they also have not tasted adulthood yet.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: So they don't have the perseverance to keep making calls.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: They don't, they've never been uh rejected as much as they are in their work.
- 35:26SPEAKER_01: And they've never also tasted the success of it.
- 35:30SPEAKER_01: So ultimately they just they just quit.
- 35:34SPEAKER_01: And they start daisy training deals and all that kind of stuff.
- 35:37SPEAKER_00: Well, and that's the that's the piece that that back to like everyone has some experience or framework that you have to come up with where you have to go through that.
- 35:44SPEAKER_00: But teaching those things is what I'm about now.
- 35:47SPEAKER_00: Where beginning I was just like, hey, get cooler stuff, spend money, go on more trips, fun things like that.
- 35:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but now it's this with your kids, and back to like making the society a better place.
- 35:59SPEAKER_00: Most things are caught, not taught.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: Your kids will learn more from you by what you do and you say when they're watching you than whenever you uh try to coach them up.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: So you saw JJ's box breakdown service.
- 36:11SPEAKER_00: I was like, JG, dude, you can make a couple hundred bucks a weekend.
- 36:14SPEAKER_00: He was like, seven dad, I'm out.
- 36:16SPEAKER_00: I'm not doing that, man.
- 36:17SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 36:18SPEAKER_00: Because that's he's like, that's that's too crazy for me.
- 36:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:21SPEAKER_00: But what where I go with this is that what's so difficult for all of us is that you go to college, back to that thing I was talking about, and you have this cool group, but then you lose you get so pulled away from, hey, I got this great job.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: If I stay at this job for 20 years, I'll get to this role.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: And if I do does that make sense, yeah.
- 36:38SPEAKER_00: So what we have to learn if you want to go to you know building a certain type of business and perseverance and lifestyle, it's very difficult to break free.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: And what I mean by that is you no longer have a boss.
- 36:50SPEAKER_00: So you you throw away what's safe and secure for betting on yourself and doing deals, and it's it's it's fairly difficult.
- 36:57SPEAKER_00: And that's back to even where we started this like about faith and to know it's gonna work out, yeah.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, wholesale specifically, I there's also there's a lot of AI used in it now nowadays.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: Um and third-party call centers from other countries, yeah.
- 37:13SPEAKER_01: So, and I I remember when I first started my company, and this was a terrible, terrible idea.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: Um, but I had tried to have a VA from Egypt uh not only cold call but close the deals, negotiate the deals with the sellers, just basically trying to automate it all, which is possible, but probably one shouldn't be overseas, most likely, and two shouldn't be done as early as I was trying to do it.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: You know, you need to build up the the experience, the systems, the processes, then build the team that you can put the team, the people into those processes, those systems that you've already built, and make sure that you're spending enough on marketing.
- 37:51SPEAKER_01: I think it's the main big thing in Mar in uh in SL.
- 37:54SPEAKER_00: Yeah, spent spend a lot, yeah, no doubt.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: And that's the that's the real cheat cut, I think, for most businesses if you can scale your marketing.
- 38:01SPEAKER_00: A couple of my friends have sold companies and service businesses, and the first thing they did was quadruple their marketing budget.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: Just pound pound the the media to get more opportunities.
- 38:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:12SPEAKER_00: So in in terms of uh in terms of real estate, what I think is what I think is so important is that it is such a big industry that a lot of us forget how many ways there are to participate in it.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:23SPEAKER_00: The knock I have on wholesaling, though, when we were gonna talk about this, is that how would most people get into it?
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: You see a video of some guy on Lambeau who says, dude, I wholesaled my first house.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_00: And I made 20,000, right?
- 38:36SPEAKER_00: And then this has been going on since like the 80s.
- 38:39SPEAKER_00: And if you go back and watch like on YouTube and watch 80 infomercials, it used to be huge.
- 38:43SPEAKER_00: But essentially, my the the issue with it is that that I have with it is to a certain degree, you're you're preying on people's ignorance, right?
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: Or you're helping them out, which very rarely is the case in my experience, where you're like, I'll just take this off your hands.
- 38:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, most wholesalers I know, I'm like, come on, dude, that ain't right, right?
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: So uh what I think is the lesson though about real estate is it's an imperfect market.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: So a perfect market is like the stock market, like price perfect.
- 39:12SPEAKER_00: And I talk about this a lot because people sometimes pick businesses to get into where your competition is strong.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and so in turn, but back to back to getting beat up, sometimes it's best to pick underserved markets than it is to pick the prime time.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: Like here's a here's two examples.
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Um you pick being a NBA basketball player as your vocation.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: What are the barriers to entry?
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: Anyone can dribble a ball.
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so no wonder you get the best athletes to the top, right?
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 39:43SPEAKER_00: You got to be just an absolute, right?
- 39:45SPEAKER_00: Like nobody likes to hear this, but like D1 athletes and professional athletes are chosen.
- 39:49SPEAKER_00: They're born, they're not made, right?
- 39:51SPEAKER_00: Like if you're not six foot eight, good luck.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: You're not you're probably not gonna play in the NFL.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: But where we talk through other extremes of like back to imperfect markets, real estate's good, but here's the other extreme where you think about imperfect market.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: I did a loan one time for a guy who is a veterinarian uh radiologist.
- 40:13SPEAKER_00: Five hundred dollars, he makes about five hundred dollars every six minutes.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: So think about that.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: That's that's that's basically 5k an hour, dude.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:23SPEAKER_00: So think about that.
- 40:25SPEAKER_00: So if he works, right?
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: He works seven hours a day.
- 40:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like this dude made that much money.
- 40:31SPEAKER_03: That's insane.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: And he was known around the country because all these vets would pay him that to view the scans, and then they would charge 700 and he would just be like this cancer, you know, he'd spot the the spots on these for for pets.
- 40:44SPEAKER_00: So when you think about picking careers, that's one of the things about being where you where you really watch enough billionaires, you realize some of them are very lucky, and it wasn't just determination, it was right time, right place, with the right skill set when the markets went that way.
- 40:57SPEAKER_00: Does that make sense?
- 41:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: Like, like there have you have to give these people like people put them on a pedestal, like they like like Jeff Bezos got there, but he also got lucky in the timing of when he picked his his startup.
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 41:13SPEAKER_00: Think about that age, right?
- 41:14SPEAKER_00: Now, if you were to start a new website selling books, you'd be like, Yeah.
- 41:18SPEAKER_00: Good one, loser.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 41:20SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying here?
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: So so when we think about this for whoever your demographic is watching it, there is so much to be said in picking the right businesses to pursue, right?
- 41:30SPEAKER_00: Or they're underserved markets versus going in and mirroring someone else because it could be very difficult, right?
- 41:36SPEAKER_00: Like in my space, in the mortgage original space, I kind of rank it like this the A players, the A best salespeople in the financial services space, by and large, are like financial advisors, right?
- 41:45SPEAKER_00: Then you have mortgage lenders, right?
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: And then maybe a C salesperson would be uh be like a uh insurance business, because insurance, you don't have to be the best salesperson because you get renewals, right?
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: So you get enough book a business.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: And then and then you can say some of these other people might be inside sales, things like that.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: But if you get certain A players in these industries, dude, they just crush it.
- 42:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 42:04SPEAKER_00: Because it's there, but it's just a very difficult career, uh, in my opinion, to kind of break into the more uh the more difficult the sales process is.
- 42:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: Talk to me about the vision of uh NJ MJW.
- 42:16SPEAKER_01: You mentioned with you know, if if you're aiming for the number one, then you can become a billionaire.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: But if you know if you're just a uh a mortgage broker, probably not.
- 42:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so we're sure we're mortgage under, we're we're fully delegated, that means we do all the credit.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: Every aspect of the business is is in-house, start to finish.
- 42:31SPEAKER_00: Our company was far founded by my business partner in 2008.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: Him and I came partners uh sometime a few years later.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: I mean, our real goal is just to win Indiana, man.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: That is my single goal.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: As I do this, right, I'm not gonna go start some new career and reinvent myself now at 42.
- 42:48SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 42:48SPEAKER_00: So our goal with the whole business is just to be a great home for originators.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: We're a flat organization.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: We don't have massive corporate overhead, you're never gonna see us flying banners at these stadiums and these events.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: We're trying to win the old school way, which is taking care of our people and putting them in the best spot to win.
- 43:04SPEAKER_00: So when they go to that marketplace, they can win on speed, on product, service.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: And really, more important than all that is unconditional ways we provide value.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Because so many times in the marketplace, what is our construct of how we provide value?
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: You said it best earlier.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: I'm a wholesaler.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: Versus maybe your marketing message should be hey, I help people out when they have a property they don't know what the hell to do with.
- 43:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: Those are probably your ideal clients.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 43:28SPEAKER_00: Motivated seller, get this off my hand.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: Like all my best real estate deals, by and large, are people who have a property that has a problem and they say, John, I know you'll buy this and not ask any questions and make it easy.
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: That's how I buy it, right?
- 43:40SPEAKER_00: That's how I get it.
- 43:42SPEAKER_00: So for us, that's what we're trying to do.
- 43:43SPEAKER_00: Is we're trying to be that home because what we're seeing is there's a lot of people that are going to shed and get out of our space because it's a tough business.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: And there's not a lot of guys who are our age who own mortgage companies who are looking to pursue with top tier originators and make a win win partnership.
- 43:58SPEAKER_00: So our goal is just.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Us to an Indiana and really support those people with a great culture team, best into best in class technology, but also a good management structure who's in the field doing loans.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: So you're never talking to somebody who's completely disconnected from what's actually going on in the marketplace.
- 44:14SPEAKER_00: Got it.
- 44:15SPEAKER_01: So let's say you've now, you know, three years from now, one Indiana.
- 44:20SPEAKER_01: You're number one.
- 44:22SPEAKER_01: Are you what's the plan from there?
- 44:23SPEAKER_00: Really, for me, it's never about number one.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: Back to back to this, back to this paradigm about what leads to a fulfilling life.
- 44:29SPEAKER_00: And I think this is what's so difficult for all of us is that sometimes we are so focused on beating other people, we lose the joy in it.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: And there's a great book about it called The Gap in the Game.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:42SPEAKER_00: Have you read that book?
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: I've not, I need to.
- 44:44SPEAKER_01: I've I've heard about it for a while.
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: So what happens when you think about your competition?
- 44:48SPEAKER_00: They go on a deal and you go on a deal and they win and you lose.
- 44:51SPEAKER_00: Does that hurt?
- 44:52SPEAKER_00: Can.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: Are you like, what?
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: I didn't get it.
- 44:55SPEAKER_00: Like, what's your response there?
- 45:00SPEAKER_01: You know, we just need to improve on the next one.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, good feedback.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: So, what what I've learned the hard way about all this stuff is most people say, my kid plays sports.
- 45:10SPEAKER_00: Sports teaches all these things.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: Have you heard that a lot by a lot of parents?
- 45:14SPEAKER_00: What you'll find out really quick, sports now are like what everyone talks about in benchmarks.
- 45:19SPEAKER_00: So for literally from age, let's say five till whenever they stop.
- 45:24SPEAKER_00: And and for those watching who have kids, don't judge me, but for people who played sport, some more power to you.
- 45:32SPEAKER_00: People are like sports to this, sports to that.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: Back to this per this paradigm I've learned.
- 45:36SPEAKER_00: I've met people who are pro-athletes.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: Guess what they have in common?
- 45:39SPEAKER_00: They're bigger, they're faster, they have better genetics, right?
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: Um, so what happens is is that as we as we talk through this thing of life, we start getting so caught up in comparison.
- 45:52SPEAKER_00: And when you really think about when you feel your worst, it's when you compare your life and your things you're doing to other people.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: Have you ever had that feeling?
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: And you feel, ugh.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Like, what the hell's wrong with me?
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: Like, what why am I not doing it?
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: And what it comes back to is that what I talked about earlier about in that word integrity with your own words and yourself.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: Comparison is the ultimate distraction and road to nowhere.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: Because what does comparison do?
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: I mean, you you at least put a positive spin, hey, we can get better.
- 46:20SPEAKER_00: Comparison is a distraction.
- 46:22SPEAKER_00: It's frankly irrelevant because what is their what is their accomplishments accomplishments going to do for you?
- 46:28unknown: Nothing.
- 46:29SPEAKER_01: Some people might drive them.
- 46:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: But drive them to be miserable.
- 46:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 46:33SPEAKER_00: Because it's a road to misery, right?
- 46:35SPEAKER_00: So what happens by being in your game is that you create a business that's so good because you're focused so much on you, you don't even know what other people are doing.
- 46:42SPEAKER_00: And guess what?
- 46:43SPEAKER_00: You don't care.
- 46:44SPEAKER_00: Because it's a distraction.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: But guess what happens in the modern world?
- 46:48SPEAKER_00: We have the smartest people in the world fighting for our attention.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: Think about this.
- 46:52SPEAKER_00: Who's fighting for attention?
- 46:54SPEAKER_00: Apple?
- 46:56SPEAKER_00: Facebook?
- 46:57SPEAKER_00: Google?
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Netflix?
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:00SPEAKER_00: Who else could we put in that?
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: Who else could we put in that mix that's that's trying to fight for our attention?
- 47:04SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 47:05SPEAKER_00: You think about that, right?
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: Those are the main ones though.
- 47:07SPEAKER_00: Like YouTube, Google, uh, Facebook, Instagram.
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:11SPEAKER_00: So these people are fighting for us.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: And they're almost driving that programming into us.
- 47:16SPEAKER_00: And when you make a post and people like it, it makes you feel good, just like we're doing right now.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: So what happens is this, and why I share this story on it for the people who are watching it.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: If you want to instantly make your life better, back to back to where I was talking about those four paradigms, you can get so much more dumb in your life when you get crystal clear on the things that matter for you.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Like back to your point, I ate this food, I didn't feel good.
- 47:36SPEAKER_00: Secret, don't do that.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 47:39SPEAKER_00: Hey, I feel good when I work out.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: Why is that?
- 47:42SPEAKER_00: Well, there's there's the physiological, there's the physiology piece of it, like you're just, you know, in the divorce range release, you feel better.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: But the second piece is mentally, you kept your word to yourself that day.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: And that builds that self-worth.
- 47:53SPEAKER_00: Like, hey, I did what I said I was gonna do.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 47:55SPEAKER_00: I don't feel like a lazy turd, right?
- 47:57SPEAKER_00: So where I go with this and why I share this stuff so much about these simple principles is these are the things that led me to have the most peace and enjoy my life.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: So as we talk to that kind of warrior store, if you will, or the hero story, I spent too many years reinventing the damn wheel, man.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: You don't have to reinvent anything.
- 48:15SPEAKER_00: There are so many people who have done these things before you.
- 48:19SPEAKER_00: And that's back to where you talk through those principles of life, where we talk through God being catechized, all these different pieces.
- 48:24SPEAKER_00: Because here's the thing that most of us don't ever tell ourselves, and which I teach I try to teach my kids.
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: There's three ways you learn.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: Number one, self-taught.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: You go out to the marketplace like I did and think you're special and you make a ton of mistakes.
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 48:38SPEAKER_00: Have you done that?
- 48:39SPEAKER_00: I'm special.
- 48:40SPEAKER_00: And then you go, I'm an idiot.
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:42SPEAKER_00: And then you get broken by the market.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Number two, you read a book and you implement it, which works better, agreed.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: But the best way you learn is by peer groups and friendships.
- 48:53SPEAKER_00: And those people can take you far further.
- 48:54SPEAKER_00: Have you ever heard the quote?
- 48:56SPEAKER_00: Your income is the summary of the five closest friends you have.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 48:59SPEAKER_00: Everyone talks about that.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: Guess why?
- 49:01SPEAKER_00: It's true.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: It's true.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Because if your friends are doing more, if your friends have five employees, you're like, why don't I have five employees?
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: If your friends make extra, why don't I do it?
- 49:10SPEAKER_00: I know this dude.
- 49:10SPEAKER_00: I just beat him basketball last week when we played.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: He's an idiot.
- 49:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 49:14SPEAKER_00: Because your buddy.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: What we all get wrong is we go to this paradigm where we go to the piece that we don't like to tell ourselves.
- 49:21SPEAKER_00: By and large, the pioneer dies.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: Have you ever noticed that?
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: The pioneer of industry is really the guy who's rich.
- 49:29SPEAKER_00: Elon Musk made all the money on Tesla.
- 49:32SPEAKER_00: Tesla went broke.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: The guy, the founder, right?
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: Who made the first electric.
- 49:37SPEAKER_00: Have you ever seen all this?
- 49:39SPEAKER_01: Nikolai Tesla?
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: You follow me here.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: So to this framework for hopefully, I think your audience is probably younger guys, where we're going here is there's these principles you have.
- 49:48SPEAKER_00: You pick the market you participate in, and then you block off distractions.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: Why do you block how do you block off distractions in the modern world?
- 49:55SPEAKER_00: Well, first with social media, you just don't follow those things.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Hey, if I feel bad when I watch this, why am I giving it my attention?
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: Or better yet, my friends aren't doing the things I want.
- 50:09SPEAKER_00: Just get new friends, dude.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 50:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 50:12SPEAKER_00: Because the hope I have whenever I talk to people about this stuff is that life is not easy, right?
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: But it's simple if you make it simple.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: But if you're watching your phone four hours a day, you you spent you major in the minors, you don't focus on the highest value task.
- 50:25SPEAKER_00: To me, it's a road to nowhere.
- 50:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 50:27SPEAKER_00: It's a road to no fulfillment, it's a road to where you're not wanting to go.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: Because for me, what I learned a long time ago is when you look at your life, we all have the same 24.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: We all have the same 24, right?
- 50:37SPEAKER_00: But you have to have these paradigms of what are the things that I'm focused on.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: A couple things to keep in mind: integrity with your words.
- 50:44SPEAKER_00: Make no assumptions about another person, right?
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: Think about that.
- 50:47SPEAKER_00: Next piece is eliminate all the things that don't make you happy.
- 50:50SPEAKER_00: And then really focus on those four areas of life.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: Because again, you can find a way.
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: There's so many people who have done exactly what you want to do.
- 50:58SPEAKER_00: Just don't reinvent the wheel.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: That's where I go with the mortgage business.
- 51:02SPEAKER_00: I follow the guys who have done it, right?
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: I don't follow the guys who might be ahead of me because it's a distraction, man.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: So that's kind of what my advice is to everybody when I, you know, do these pods.
- 51:11SPEAKER_00: Got it.
- 51:13SPEAKER_00: Got it.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: And dude, if I've talked too much on this thing and just ranted, just shoot me and tell me to switch gears.
- 51:22SPEAKER_01: I don't think there's anything I want to do.
- 51:25SPEAKER_01: Do you have a 5 p.m.
- 51:26SPEAKER_01: cutoff?
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: I got I do got some stuff to go do.
- 51:29SPEAKER_00: But so let's let's let's go through a couple things for you, dude, that I think is important for your pod that I I think is helpful uh for what it's worth.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: Uh let's go through some stuff for you.
- 51:39SPEAKER_00: So so let's talk through uh do you want what do you want the who do you want this pod to watch?
- 51:44SPEAKER_01: Uh Faith Driven Entrepreneurs.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 51:47SPEAKER_00: So let's let's start with let's start with some some of the things.
- 51:51SPEAKER_00: How did you craft your uh core principles for running your business?
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: Uh there's been a couple different ways.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: One is uh there's an activity that you look at three people that you look up to and five traits about them, and you find what is in common.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: Um, another is similar, which is three people that you also look up to, but if they were in your business, this business would inevitably succeed and also traits about them, and then you find the common commonalities.
- 52:19SPEAKER_01: So those are two different things that I've used for our core values.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: And then and then do you find it's easier to make difficult decisions when you f when you look at difficult choices through those core values you created?
- 52:32SPEAKER_01: No, I would say decisions are made easier because you have the lens of the core values versus if you have no ethics, it's like I I guess in that sense it would probably just be the money, right?
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: That would be the Well I bring it up because the difficulty can be just that, right?
- 52:48SPEAKER_00: An opportunity comes across your plate.
- 52:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 52:51SPEAKER_00: And then you gotta say, I can make XMR like sometimes in wholesale.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: If you do it, there's usually one or two deals a year that you hit what I call a home run.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: And that home run, sometimes you go, Man, should I just have them list this on the market themselves?
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 53:05SPEAKER_00: So how do you handle that?
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: Uh, I mean, that really depends on uh, you know, the situation of the seller.
- 53:12SPEAKER_01: Like a lot of the sellers, obviously, they you know, the sellers we work with, a lot of them are very, very time-bound.
- 53:17SPEAKER_01: Um, and so they might be getting a divorce.
- 53:20SPEAKER_01: And I really genuinely some of these sellers don't care about money.
- 53:24SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: Like they just want to be out of the house.
- 53:26SPEAKER_01: I've had several sellers tell me, like, I just want to pay off.
- 53:30SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 53:31SPEAKER_01: Um, and then others are gonna lose their house to foreclosure or something like that.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: No doubt.
- 53:36SPEAKER_01: So um, but the way we operate is you know, if they're not in a situation like that, I'm always like, hey, we're probably not gonna be able to get you the most money.
- 53:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: If you want the most money, that does mean, you know, you would have showings, you would have all these different things that go into a list.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: Repairs.
- 53:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, repairs.
- 53:56SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know, you you need to you need to get the house nice, you might need to stage it depending on the price point.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 54:01SPEAKER_01: Um, and then we also do have a brokerage side of our company.
- 54:04SPEAKER_01: So we're both buy houses and uh we have maybe 10 listings or something active right now for those that haven't been uh that have been like what you're talking about.
- 54:14SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 54:15SPEAKER_00: Because one of the things I think like combining faith and business is sometimes um I think everybody gotta work everybody needs to work, right?
- 54:22SPEAKER_00: But I think sometimes what happens is we don't get crystal clear on those principles prior to getting into business, and that's when business gets hard.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: Because enterprises truly are about the pursuit of profit, but faith is about a lot more than that.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: So it's sometimes it's difficult, right?
- 54:41SPEAKER_00: To if you don't get crystal clear on those principles.
- 54:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and especially when you do have the gift of being able, like you said, to sell, to to talk to people well, and especially when they are, you know, the the people that we talk to, which are uh a lot of times not doing great financially and they are very impressionable, and you know, it's it can be I I can see how others might take advantage of them, you know.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: Um so it yeah.
- 55:09SPEAKER_00: That's and that's good.
- 55:10SPEAKER_00: I think I think for me about about it is I think for like faith-based entrepreneurs, I think one of the best things they can do is get together and talk to people.
- 55:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because I think what what I learned the hard way is when I got started, if you don't become clear on what it what are those principles, as you get put in situations as you grow, you sometimes go through the lens of what's in my best interest.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: And that competes with building a great company that lasts.
- 55:40SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: It's like uh Warren Buffett said it once about his CEOs, which is never do anything that if it was written in the paper, you would be embarrassed by and you don't want the world to know.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah, right.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: That was one of his kind of things.
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: So as you as we think through our lives, I think it's so important that that we recognize that like trust is hard to hard to earn and easy to lose.
- 56:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:03SPEAKER_00: So how do you kind of handle those difficult situations?
- 56:08SPEAKER_00: Because you're putting it out there on the pod, you're grinding it, you're like, but I'm in a tough biz because wholesaling can be difficult.
- 56:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 56:15SPEAKER_01: Um, I think it's really just you know, it it a big part of it is a heart posture, how you're genuinely seeking to serve the person versus you know self-serving, uh serving yourself or serving your best interests while knowing that you are inevitably like do you know taking advantage of them.
- 56:36SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then also I you know, tangibly, I think a big part is you know walking them through their options, like, hey, you can list it for a hundred, or we can give you you know sixty-five and close in two weeks.
- 56:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 56:48SPEAKER_01: But you can get a hundred if you you know it might take up to six months to sell it on the market and prepares and showings and all the things, yeah.
- 56:56SPEAKER_00: And I think that's awesome because I think that's the most important piece, is like especially here and how you approach it, because there's a way to be ethical.
- 57:03SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 57:04SPEAKER_00: But a lot of people aren't always.
- 57:08SPEAKER_01: I think it's it it just I mean it's cliche, but it's integrity, it's uh transparency, um, and like what again, what their options are.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: Um, and then also, I mean, we'll do like novations.
- 57:22SPEAKER_01: Um, sometimes when they are in good condition, they still don't want to list it because they don't want to deal with that hassle.
- 57:28SPEAKER_01: We'll list it, we'll deal with the hassle.
- 57:31SPEAKER_01: They're getting more.
- 57:32SPEAKER_01: We're getting more profit than a you know regular listing, and it's that's a win-win too.
- 57:37SPEAKER_01: So it's cool, man.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: It just depends on the property.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: What about uh so for some other followers?
- 57:42SPEAKER_00: What are some other stuff you want me to hit on for you, dude?
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Uh-huh.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: I'm assuming you're gonna cut this up a little bit.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:54SPEAKER_01: We sometimes I'm actually in the process of hiring a new editor, so yeah, our last one just went completely MIA, so it's a tough job.
- 58:07SPEAKER_01: I guess.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: It's just not that fun.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: But no, dude, I I just always appreciate the opportunity to get on these things and support people, and and obviously I love the pub and and any of the clips or anything else I can help with you.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: Uh I think being a wholesaler is an interesting vocation, and I think uh combine it with faith is a necessary piece because like your competition, if you want to call them that, we'll just do whatever.
- 58:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know.
- 58:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if yeah, if I think about the competition in in this market, there's there's a couple good companies.
- 58:37SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean the first the primary one that comes to mind in the indie market is uh simple quarters.
- 58:41SPEAKER_01: You know, they I think they do things really ethically to my understanding.
- 58:45SPEAKER_00: I bought some stuff from them, I saw on it.
- 58:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so um, but there's some other companies that are debatable.
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: No doubt, no doubt.
- 58:53SPEAKER_01: So um no, I think that's it.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: Well, cool, man.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, I just I always appreciate the opportunity, man.
- 59:00SPEAKER_00: And and yeah, let me on your your things because really that the the the impact I always want to tell everybody when they hear hear from me is like, here's what I'm about, here's where I'm trying to go.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: And uh I'm I'm really trying to just help people and give them some some cheat codes that I've found, yeah, versus making all the mistakes I've done because I've done a lot.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: And avoid them.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: There's and I think that's even in like that's biblical is to learn from other people's mistakes.
- 59:25SPEAKER_01: Like you know, on a personal development gurus talk about it, but it's also it's in the Bible.
- 59:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no doubt.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: To not learn from your own mistakes, but learn from you know, obviously learn from your own mistakes as well.
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: But ideally, you don't make the mistake because you're learning from others.
- 59:38SPEAKER_01: So and I think also just learning from people's successes, yeah, no doubt.
- 59:42SPEAKER_00: So success sleeps clues, man.
- 59:44SPEAKER_00: Well, cool, dude.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: I appreciate you having me on here.
- 59:46SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 59:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, dude.
- 59:48SPEAKER_00: Cool, thanks.
- 59:49SPEAKER_00: Awesome, appreciate it.
- 59:51SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna do uh I can just do play it again, yeah.
- 59:54unknown: What do you want to do?
- 59:55SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna do a quick outro, yeah.
- 59:57SPEAKER_04: Yeah, go ahead.
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, guys, this was a reborn podcast with John Murphy.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: Um, this has been awesome, John.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: Thank you for being here.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: Appreciate it, man.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_00: Thanks for the opportunity, dude.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, maybe a part two coming soon.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah, what is it on uh MJW.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_00: Here to help, yeah, man.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: Anytime.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: Perfect.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_01: Thanks, man.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: Thank you, brother.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_01: Bye.
