- 0:00Hi, this is Stephanie Maas, partner with Thinking Ahead Search.
- 0:04Today I wanna talk to you about a topic I've talked about multiple times in the past, but it seems especially relevant today, and this is the idea of professional advancement.
- 0:16Professional advancement in the past.
- 0:19My parents probably Your parents, definitely our grandparents.
- 0:23Advancement was the corporate ladder.
- 0:26This is the ladder, these are the wrongs.
- 0:28It went one direction.
- 0:30If you did it right, you went up it.
- 0:33If you did it wrong.
- 0:35You fell off the ladder.
- 0:36Not good.
- 0:37Sometimes you went down and could go back up.
- 0:39It was kind of a one-way thing.
- 0:41Or you could also just stay on one rung, and that's perfectly fine too.
- 0:45Our professional environment has changed dramatically.
- 0:49Let me suggest, instead of the corporate ladder, I really don't believe that exists anymore.
- 0:54It's a corporate lattice.
- 0:57You can go in a myriad of directions.
- 0:59Up, down, diagonal, you can switch completely to the other side.
- 1:03There are endless possibilities, but I do believe with change comes tremendous opportunity and I think we need to just stop and take a look at the corporate lattice and say, Hey.
- 1:16Where do I see myself in two or three years?
- 1:19You know, sometimes it is going straight.
- 1:22That's perfectly fine.
- 1:23But be creative.
- 1:24Think other ways.
- 1:26Think about, Hey, what skillset could I go do by coming over to this part of the lattice that would eventually maybe get me up here?
- 1:34Can I develop that skillset right now?
- 1:36What opportunities that maybe didn't exist a year ago, two years ago, five years ago, exist today that if I take advantage of them, they would put me on this part of the lattice.
- 1:45Doesn't matter where you ultimately want to go, but this is a phenomenal time to really think through your lattice of growth, your advancement path, and make sure you are taking advantage of the opportunities that are there for
- 2:01you.
