- 1:42Speaker 6: be talking about marketing, short films are being used as
- 1:45Speaker 6: actual commercials, and so much more.
- 1:49Speaker 4: As we talk all about.
- 1:50Speaker 6: This wonderful, wonderful world of filmmaking and video, we alsys
- 1:53Speaker 6: talk about a lot of really cool projects as well.
- 1:57Speaker 4: With guests Danielle riaz So.
- 2:00Speaker 5: I started my career in consumer media startups, so I've
- 2:03Speaker 5: always been about creating tools for creatives and for for
- 2:09Speaker 5: all sorts of creatives from you know, better ways to
- 2:12Speaker 5: show these photography online and video online and musicians and
- 2:16Speaker 5: stuff like that. And it came two weeks because we
- 2:20Speaker 5: saw that there's a huge user base of the video
- 2:22Speaker 5: creators that it didn't have the perfect tools for their needs.
- 2:27Speaker 5: And at weeks. We're all about empowering users and you know,
- 2:30Speaker 5: different users have different needs. So we came we came
- 2:34Speaker 5: to this project in order to help video creators grow
- 2:37Speaker 5: their business and knowing that for a video creator, their
- 2:41Speaker 5: content is their business. So it's all about you know,
- 2:43Speaker 5: better showcase, better distribution, auptions, stuff like that.
- 2:48Speaker 6: So, so, Daniel, when you're you know, obviously you see
- 2:51Speaker 6: a ton of different things. You know, with your position,
- 2:54Speaker 6: you see a ton of different filmmakers, you see a
- 2:56Speaker 6: ton of different videos. You know, what are do you
- 3:00Speaker 6: can you think of any of the top of your
- 3:01Speaker 6: head right now that have just been like absolutely like
- 3:04Speaker 6: astounding and you're you know, because you know, everything is
- 3:07Speaker 6: digital now and we have so many tools at our disposal,
- 3:09Speaker 6: it's almost.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Overwhelming at times.
- 3:11Speaker 6: But you know, you know, and sometimes you see projects
- 3:15Speaker 6: and that just come out of left field and they're
- 3:17Speaker 6: just amazing. You know, Have you run into any and
- 3:19Speaker 6: you could think of a the top of your head,
- 3:21Speaker 6: you know, during your course of weeks.
- 3:24Speaker 5: Wigs, website or in general.
- 3:26Speaker 7: Art just in general, so general, I think that it's
- 3:29Speaker 7: a really exciting time to be a video creator because
- 3:32Speaker 7: there are a lot of new ways now to create
- 3:34Speaker 7: content which are really interesting.
- 3:36Speaker 5: I see, for example, our users, you know, experimenting with
- 3:40Speaker 5: three hundred and sixty videos and VR, and it's really
- 3:44Speaker 5: a whole new way to look at how you create
- 3:46Speaker 5: content and how people engage with it. Also, if you
- 3:50Speaker 5: look at the platforms that people are using, you know, Facebook, Etteuchers,
- 3:53Speaker 5: so you get a lot of like live engagement. So
- 3:56Speaker 5: it's really interesting to see, you know, how creators evolve
- 4:01Speaker 5: how they create content in terms of how this landscape
- 4:03Speaker 5: is changing over time. So this is the one thing
- 4:08Speaker 5: that I find really interesting. And I also think that
- 4:12Speaker 5: there are a lot of tools in the last year,
- 4:15Speaker 5: in the last couple of years that are about giving
- 4:19Speaker 5: video creators, you know, the power to control their careers.
- 4:23Speaker 5: So up until now you're kind of like you had
- 4:25Speaker 5: a few video services and you kind of had to
- 4:27Speaker 5: play by their rules. And now that you have all
- 4:32Speaker 5: the power because everyone's chasing after all the great video
- 4:35Speaker 5: creators out there, you know, you can actually decide, you
- 4:38Speaker 5: can actually control the way that you're displayed and the
- 4:41Speaker 5: way that you're monetizing your content, and you have so
- 4:43Speaker 5: many platforms to choose from, which is amazing. So I
- 4:47Speaker 5: think these are really exciting time.
- 4:50Speaker 6: Yeah, and you mentioned something that I usually talk about
- 4:52Speaker 6: on the show, and that is you have to sort
- 4:54Speaker 6: of create your own sort of what I call a
- 4:56Speaker 6: stake in the ground. And basically what that is is,
- 4:59Speaker 6: you know, you have have to get a website and
- 5:02Speaker 6: that is your stake so in the ground and you
- 5:04Speaker 6: know minus Dave Bulls dot com and basically that way,
- 5:07Speaker 6: when you're actually out there and you're you're making stuff,
- 5:10Speaker 6: you can upload it to a website. And this is
- 5:12Speaker 6: I think it's key because now I don't know, it's
- 5:14Speaker 6: just maybe if it's just me, but whenever someone says
- 5:16Speaker 6: who you know, who's uh, does you know creative work
- 5:19Speaker 6: or artistic work, and they say they don't have a website,
- 5:21Speaker 6: I kind of go really like, you know what I mean,
- 5:23Speaker 6: it's just if it seems like it should be second
- 5:25Speaker 6: nature at this point completely.
- 5:27Speaker 5: So I think that's provisional artists. You know, your site
- 5:29Speaker 5: is really your business card, and when people talk to you,
- 5:32Speaker 5: they'll just go to Google, they'll google your name and
- 5:35Speaker 5: they'll just they need to find like a professional, beautiful
- 5:37Speaker 5: online presence because it actually reflects on how they look
- 5:40Speaker 5: at your work. So you really want to have control
- 5:43Speaker 5: on how this is displayed, and you know, wis being wikes.
- 5:47Speaker 5: We're really about like giving you all the tools so
- 5:50Speaker 5: you don't have to think about how to create your
- 5:52Speaker 5: website or how you know, how to design it. We're
- 5:55Speaker 5: just giving you everything, giving you all the tools that
- 5:57Speaker 5: you need so you can just focus on your contents
- 5:59Speaker 5: and just put it, you know, in a beautiful template
- 6:02Speaker 5: and that could customize the entire thing and make it
- 6:04Speaker 5: your own. So when people go to your site, you know,
- 6:06Speaker 5: they they see your site and your logo and your brand,
- 6:10Speaker 5: and you know, it's all you and it doesn't really
- 6:12Speaker 5: matter where the content is coming from.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Yeah, that's true.
- 6:16Speaker 6: And especially now with video becoming what it is so
- 6:19Speaker 6: important in marketing and advertising, you know. I mean, you know,
- 6:23Speaker 6: for instance, you go onto a lot of these video
- 6:26Speaker 6: sites and you know, like you know, Hulu, Voodoos, you know, YouTube,
- 6:30Speaker 6: and you see the what you see those ads before
- 6:33Speaker 6: the video, and they're short films. They're no longer just
- 6:36Speaker 6: like people you know, pitching you things. They're a literal
- 6:39Speaker 6: short film, you know, and and the product is what's
- 6:42Speaker 6: being marketed, you know what I mean.
- 6:45Speaker 5: Definitely so click because you know, businesses started realizing that
- 6:49Speaker 5: video is really the most engaging way to connect people
- 6:52Speaker 5: to their band, to the brand, and to showcase their products.
- 6:55Speaker 5: So they're actually the ads as you said, they're becoming
- 6:59Speaker 5: like little films that are incredible. You know you've seen this.
- 7:02Speaker 5: For example, I think the Big Fashion House is now
- 7:05Speaker 5: they released to YouTube such incredible clips and short films
- 7:09Speaker 5: that are all about, you know, showcasing a certain dress
- 7:12Speaker 5: that they're selling or a certain collection. But it's like
- 7:14Speaker 5: it's like a film production for sure. So this is
- 7:17Speaker 5: totally something that that is interesting.
- 7:21Speaker 6: So so Danielle, you've had a few filmmakers come to
- 7:24Speaker 6: you and come to Wicks in general, and you've sort
- 7:28Speaker 6: of helped them along, you know, I've i know, in
- 7:31Speaker 6: talking with Vivian Uh you know she mentioned you have
- 7:34Speaker 6: two an evening with Bukolowski and uh Slate Goods and
- 7:38Speaker 6: NYC and you know some of these you know, different projects.
- 7:41Speaker 6: You know, when they come to you, what are some
- 7:44Speaker 6: of the things that that you sort of cover when
- 7:47Speaker 6: you're when you're talking to them. Is there any sort
- 7:48Speaker 6: of like do you have like a sort of like
- 7:49Speaker 6: a template a check sheet that you go through or
- 7:52Speaker 6: is it sort of you base it upon every different filmmaker, uh,
- 7:56Speaker 6: for when when they're gonna you know, obviously when they're
- 7:58Speaker 6: coming to you with with it for video and for websites,
- 8:01Speaker 6: et cetera.
- 8:03Speaker 5: Yeah, So the thing about Slates and the two examples
- 8:07Speaker 5: that you gave Slave Goods and the and the Evening
- 8:10Speaker 5: with Bokovski are two incredible, incredible examples of the platform.
- 8:14Speaker 5: The thing is, we didn't reach out to them until
- 8:17Speaker 5: after they actually created their website because the thing is
- 8:19Speaker 5: it's such a do it yourself platform they didn't really
- 8:22Speaker 5: need any help from us or any guidance for us,
- 8:23Speaker 5: and they created two beautiful showcases. So Slate New York
- 8:27Speaker 5: they are doing. They're selling snickers and what they're working
- 8:31Speaker 5: with nonprofits. So they use video on their website to
- 8:34Speaker 5: connect people to the nonprofits that they work with to
- 8:37Speaker 5: tell their stories, which really helps business. And you know,
- 8:40Speaker 5: it's not like the typical video creator, but it's someone
- 8:43Speaker 5: that realized that video helps you sell and it helped
- 8:47Speaker 5: connect people to your brand. And Evening with Bokovsky it
- 8:51Speaker 5: just became one of my favorite stories because the thing
- 8:53Speaker 5: about that movie, it's a film that was it's a
- 8:56Speaker 5: documentary film that's actually premiered in Venice Festival Film Festival
- 9:00Speaker 5: last year, and then in slam Dance and several other festivals.
- 9:04Speaker 5: And the thing is that the director actually found a
- 9:08Speaker 5: bunch of tapes of his mom, who was a journalist,
- 9:11Speaker 5: like I don't know how many decades ago, interviewed Charles Pokowski,
- 9:15Speaker 5: the writer, and it was so good he decided to
- 9:18Speaker 5: make a movie out of it, and he created this
- 9:20Speaker 5: amazing documentary and then he creates a website for it.
- 9:24Speaker 5: And on the website, you know, you see that you
- 9:26Speaker 5: can watch the trailer, you can see all the festivals
- 9:28Speaker 5: that it showcased in, and then you can, you know,
- 9:31Speaker 5: contact him, and you have the press area and everything.
- 9:33Speaker 5: So when you go there, you actually, you know, you
- 9:35Speaker 5: hear the entire story behind the film, and it's fascinating.
- 9:40Speaker 5: So these are actually two great examples of, you know,
- 9:43Speaker 5: different uses for people who are either filmmakers or not
- 9:46Speaker 5: filmmakers at all, realizing the power of video.
- 9:51Speaker 1: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor
- 9:57Speaker 1: and now back to the show.
- 10:00Speaker 6: So then then it's sort of, you know, take that
- 10:02Speaker 6: a step further, Danielle. If you were to have somebody
- 10:05Speaker 6: sort of come to you then and a filmmaker, and
- 10:08Speaker 6: and he or she wanted to put their films, you know,
- 10:11Speaker 6: use Wix to build a site, put some videos up.
- 10:13Speaker 6: You know, you know what what advice would you give them?
- 10:16Speaker 6: You know, obviously because you mentioned you got to talk
- 10:18Speaker 6: to the two fil filmmakers after their movies came out.
- 10:21Speaker 4: But you know, but if.
- 10:22Speaker 6: We if you had the opportunity to talk to people
- 10:24Speaker 6: before those movies come out, you know what was what
- 10:27Speaker 6: would be some of the advice that you would give them.
- 10:30Speaker 5: So I think the first thing I would say is,
- 10:32Speaker 5: you know, that's creating, creating movies and videos these days,
- 10:35Speaker 5: it's not like a one way thing. So you have
- 10:37Speaker 5: to engage with your viewers, and you have to do
- 10:40Speaker 5: it even before you start filming. So you build your
- 10:43Speaker 5: own website, you create a teaser, you put whatever content
- 10:46Speaker 5: you have there. You start talking to your fans and
- 10:50Speaker 5: engaging with them. You share behind the scenes and updates
- 10:52Speaker 5: and teasers, and you really create a buzz about your
- 10:56Speaker 5: film before it's even out there. And then once it's
- 10:59Speaker 5: out there, so you revamp your website a little bit
- 11:02Speaker 5: and you make sure that the movie is available, you know,
- 11:04Speaker 5: either for sale or even just the trailer if you
- 11:07Speaker 5: want to do the festival run, but just keep keep users, like,
- 11:10Speaker 5: keep your viewers engaged all the time. This is something
- 11:14Speaker 5: that's really really critical in MAS. And then you know,
- 11:16Speaker 5: if you add to it like a directors statement and
- 11:19Speaker 5: interviews with your cast and exclusive content, then people really
- 11:22Speaker 5: have like they get a lot of your website, They
- 11:25Speaker 5: really connect to your vision. They need to understand why
- 11:28Speaker 5: you did what you did and what you're trying to say.
- 11:30Speaker 5: And I think this is you know, just watching a
- 11:33Speaker 5: video without all that context. You know, it's it's not
- 11:36Speaker 5: as powerful as it can be. And the fact that
- 11:39Speaker 5: you can engage with your fun defense and stuts way,
- 11:41Speaker 5: the fact you can even you know, send them updates
- 11:44Speaker 5: and you know even live stream from the set. You know,
- 11:47Speaker 5: use whatever you have at the moment. You don't have
- 11:49Speaker 5: to have the entire film ready in order to start working.
- 11:52Speaker 5: You have to start working on it a lot before
- 11:54Speaker 5: it's done.
- 11:56Speaker 6: Yeah, And that's something I tell crowdfunders too as well,
- 11:59Speaker 6: is you know, you have to sort of build that
- 12:02Speaker 6: audience before you launch your crowdfunding campaign because a lot
- 12:05Speaker 6: of times, you know, they'll launch and they they'll try
- 12:08Speaker 6: to find their crowd that way, but you know what
- 12:09Speaker 6: I mean, and then they they sort of are trying
- 12:11Speaker 6: to they're sort of putting the car before the horse
- 12:13Speaker 6: instead of actually saying, let's build up an audience now,
- 12:17Speaker 6: and then when we launch this thing, we'll be able
- 12:19Speaker 6: to actually have an audience. Uh, and we'll actually have
- 12:21Speaker 6: an audience so we can actually you know, talk to
- 12:23Speaker 6: once we launch this crowdfunding campaign.
- 12:25Speaker 4: And it's the same way with the movie.
- 12:26Speaker 6: You know, you want to build up an audience, and
- 12:28Speaker 6: then by the time the movie comes out, you already
- 12:31Speaker 6: sort of you already have that audience who said, hey, Wilks,
- 12:33Speaker 6: we've seen the you know, we've seen the poster, we've
- 12:36Speaker 6: seen the trailer, uh, and now we actually want to
- 12:38Speaker 6: see the whole movie.
- 12:41Speaker 5: Definitely, I totally agree with you on that. And I
- 12:43Speaker 5: have to say that, for example, having a website for
- 12:45Speaker 5: crowdfunders is really like it's even essential because it helps
- 12:49Speaker 5: you appear a lot more professional. Then you know, you're
- 12:52Speaker 5: you're not just another Kickstarter project. Do you have your
- 12:55Speaker 5: own your on site with all the information there, with
- 12:58Speaker 5: everything that you need. And we have actually had users
- 13:00Speaker 5: like that also about creating a buzz before. So one
- 13:04Speaker 5: example that I can recall is the user that was
- 13:08Speaker 5: he had a horror comedy for Valentine's Day. So what
- 13:12Speaker 5: he did was it just he sent out just a
- 13:14Speaker 5: lot of teasers in social media and by the way,
- 13:16Speaker 5: social media, I'm sure you talk about it in your
- 13:18Speaker 5: podcast all the time how critical social media is for filmmakers.
- 13:22Speaker 5: But he had a lot of social media buzz before
- 13:25Speaker 5: the movie was out. But you know, it's going to
- 13:27Speaker 5: be out in Valentine's Day. In Valentine's Day, it's going
- 13:30Speaker 5: to be you know, free to watch entire Valentine's Day,
- 13:33Speaker 5: and then it's going to be paid per view. So
- 13:35Speaker 5: he created a lot of buzz and he released it
- 13:37Speaker 5: on Valentine's Day. Then it just started selling the next
- 13:40Speaker 5: day and all that buzz really really helped. So you know,
- 13:43Speaker 5: you got to he got depressed and he got all there,
- 13:47Speaker 5: all the gus in social media and whatever. So it's
- 13:49Speaker 5: it's was really a cool story.
- 13:51Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, just to uh to sort of like
- 13:54Speaker 6: piggyback on that story, Danielle. You know, one time I
- 13:57Speaker 6: actually made a short film. It was one of those
- 14:00Speaker 6: you know, weekend film competitions where you have to make
- 14:03Speaker 6: a film very very quickly. And what I did was
- 14:06Speaker 6: I actually used Wix to make a I wanted to
- 14:09Speaker 6: make just a simple, one page website. I didn't want
- 14:13Speaker 6: anything fancy, and I was like, I need something quick
- 14:16Speaker 6: because I don't want to sit here and you know,
- 14:18Speaker 6: do all this other stuff. So I actually used Wix
- 14:20Speaker 6: and I just made this one sheet of oh sorry,
- 14:23Speaker 6: one page and you're just telling people what the movie
- 14:26Speaker 6: is and a couple of little things here and there.
- 14:28Speaker 6: And the funniest thing was I actually just put like
- 14:30Speaker 6: at the bottom like everything, like here's where we're gonna be.
- 14:33Speaker 6: And people actually responded to that, just that one page
- 14:36Speaker 6: or like cause and know what they said, Danielle, They said, hey,
- 14:38Speaker 6: we didn't have anywhere else to go. There was nowhere
- 14:40Speaker 6: else to click on. There wasn't like you know, all
- 14:42Speaker 6: these different you know tabs the top. They said, you know,
- 14:45Speaker 6: it was just very simple and self contained. And they said,
- 14:48Speaker 6: you know, we you know, it seemed to get the
- 14:49Speaker 6: point across a little better than if I had a
- 14:52Speaker 6: different bunch of tabs at the top.
- 14:54Speaker 4: And you know, I just remembered that.
- 14:56Speaker 6: You know, I've always taken that with me over the
- 14:58Speaker 6: years because whenever I'm you know, thinking about making a
- 15:01Speaker 6: different website or whatever. I'm always thinking, you know, I
- 15:03Speaker 6: shouldn't make it too busy, to give people too many options,
- 15:07Speaker 6: you know what I mean, Like I don't want to
- 15:08Speaker 6: have a page where it's like watch this and then
- 15:11Speaker 6: this and then that, you know what I mean. I
- 15:12Speaker 6: want to make it so it's like it's all sort
- 15:14Speaker 6: of it's like a path, like a linear path, if
- 15:17Speaker 6: you know what I'm trying to say.
- 15:19Speaker 5: So I take them through the journey. It makes a
- 15:21Speaker 5: lot of sense. You know. You put what you put,
- 15:24Speaker 5: for example, your most recent video on the top, you
- 15:27Speaker 5: make sure they watch a recent thing, and you then
- 15:29Speaker 5: then add some you know, either tabs or below the
- 15:32Speaker 5: fold or whatever with additional content for those who are
- 15:36Speaker 5: interested in more, and you can connect between them and
- 15:38Speaker 5: you can split in you know, categories in tag and
- 15:41Speaker 5: keep people moving throughout the journey of your creation. It
- 15:45Speaker 5: makes a lot of sense.
- 15:47Speaker 6: So, you know, as we're sort of talk you know
- 15:49Speaker 6: about content creation. You know, it seems like everyone's getting
- 15:52Speaker 6: into that now, you know, I mean all these different
- 15:54Speaker 6: platforms or are you know, looking towards creating different content
- 15:59Speaker 6: and stuff like that. And you know, I wonder if
- 16:03Speaker 6: if it ever, I mean, I know this is this
- 16:05Speaker 6: is obviously this is kind of speculation, but I was
- 16:08Speaker 6: I would always wonder if different websites would be entertaining
- 16:14Speaker 6: that even more like websites we don't even think about,
- 16:16Speaker 6: you know what I mean, Like because you know, if
- 16:17Speaker 6: you look, Uh, the latest person I heard is getting
- 16:20Speaker 6: into into original content is Voodoo, and that's owned by Walmart.
- 16:24Speaker 6: So you got Voodoo, you got Amazon, you got Netflix. Uh,
- 16:27Speaker 6: YouTube of course does their thing, and and you know,
- 16:30Speaker 6: as I look out into the landscape, I wonder, you
- 16:33Speaker 6: know what other websites and companies are gonna start creating
- 16:37Speaker 6: their own original content with shows and and some of which,
- 16:41Speaker 6: like we were discussing earlier, are going to just be
- 16:43Speaker 6: commercials for things that are coming out, you know what
- 16:46Speaker 6: I mean? Like you know, maybe you know, like different
- 16:48Speaker 6: companies can focus on, you know, a new item or
- 16:50Speaker 6: coming out. For instance, I knew a guy he actually
- 16:54Speaker 6: made a Star Wars short film to promote these light
- 17:00Speaker 6: sabers that they had made, and they actually got like
- 17:03Speaker 6: got the actual license to make these lightsabers, and they
- 17:07Speaker 6: actually the trailer was just these two guys battling it
- 17:10Speaker 6: out in a lightsaber fight. And they and that's how
- 17:13Speaker 6: that was their whole marketing campaign.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Sounds very correct that one. There. Yes, there are a
- 17:21Speaker 5: lot of services, and you know, the thing is it's
- 17:25Speaker 5: just when you go to each of these services usually
- 17:28Speaker 5: need to play right their rules. But then if you
- 17:30Speaker 5: put everything on your own domain, so it's basically we
- 17:33Speaker 5: have the ability to showcase all the videos in one place.
- 17:36Speaker 5: So for example, if what you're talking about right now,
- 17:40Speaker 5: like you could create some you know, specific kind of
- 17:42Speaker 5: content for Facebook, and then you could do something for
- 17:45Speaker 5: YouTube or for Femino, and you know, each platform has
- 17:49Speaker 5: their own you know, their own style and their own
- 17:52Speaker 5: their own you know your intent of like why you're
- 17:55Speaker 5: doing what you're doing. You go to YouTube for the viral,
- 17:58Speaker 5: and you go to Vima because there's an amazing creators community,
- 18:01Speaker 5: and then you do like live and viral and say,
- 18:04Speaker 5: you know, things on Facebook. And then when you have
- 18:08Speaker 5: all that content everywhere, it's kind of nice to have
- 18:10Speaker 5: your own Demanda and you can showcase they're all in
- 18:12Speaker 5: one place. So this is one thing that we put
- 18:15Speaker 5: a lot of emphasis on. We know that creators just
- 18:17Speaker 5: they have their content running around everywhere and it's really
- 18:22Speaker 5: hard to keep track, and you know it looks different everywhere,
- 18:25Speaker 5: and you know you keep using each of this platform
- 18:28Speaker 5: for their all like the each and their own advantage.
- 18:30Speaker 5: But then you want on your own side to have
- 18:32Speaker 5: the ability to control everything and to just say, okay,
- 18:35Speaker 5: this is all the things I created throughout all the
- 18:37Speaker 5: platforms and everything, but this is mine. So this is
- 18:40Speaker 5: one thing that we put a lot of emphasis on.
- 18:42Speaker 5: And you know, make it easy to grab your videos
- 18:44Speaker 5: from everywhere and just say, okay, this is this is
- 18:46Speaker 5: all days work. You know, no matter where it's from,
- 18:49Speaker 5: this is all days work.
- 18:51Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's very true.
- 18:53Speaker 6: And you know there's there's speaking of you know, putting
- 18:55Speaker 6: on like everything in a portfolio. You know, I wanted
- 18:58Speaker 6: to ask, you know, what advice would you give back Seo,
- 19:00Speaker 6: because you know, you know, Danielle, everyone talks now about
- 19:03Speaker 6: you know, if everyone does have a website or if
- 19:05Speaker 6: everyone does have a channel, you know, we you know,
- 19:07Speaker 6: how do you actually how do people actually find it
- 19:09Speaker 6: other than you know, word of mouth. So you know,
- 19:12Speaker 6: because obviously because you've seen all these different things, you know,
- 19:15Speaker 6: what advice would you have for somebody to to sort
- 19:18Speaker 6: of you know, make sure that their SEO, their search
- 19:21Speaker 6: engine optimization is actually locked down and and and so
- 19:24Speaker 6: that way people can actually if they are searching for
- 19:26Speaker 6: maybe something like you know, if they're searching for basketball
- 19:29Speaker 6: or ping pong tables or something like that, that they
- 19:31Speaker 6: can actually find your videos.
- 19:35Speaker 5: So actually, you know, it's something that we put a
- 19:38Speaker 5: lot of emphasis on. So we actually have tools that
- 19:41Speaker 5: automate this entire process for you and help you make this,
- 19:44Speaker 5: you know, the best you can find. Because as we
- 19:47Speaker 5: said in the beginning, when people will want to look
- 19:49Speaker 5: things up, they'll just go to Google and then they
- 19:51Speaker 5: just really you know, they go there and they say, okay,
- 19:53Speaker 5: I'll probably like, you know, whatever comes up on the
- 19:55Speaker 5: first page, this is what it will probably they'll click.
- 20:00Speaker 1: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor,
- 20:06Speaker 1: and now back to the show.
- 20:09Speaker 5: I think the most important thing is just to make
- 20:12Speaker 5: sure that you have a lot of information on everything
- 20:15Speaker 5: that you add on your site. So you want to,
- 20:17Speaker 5: you know, you want to fill in all the details
- 20:19Speaker 5: of everything that you do. For example, if you're a
- 20:21Speaker 5: filmmaker and you have your your crew and your cast
- 20:23Speaker 5: and the description and everything, you want everything written down
- 20:28Speaker 5: because basically Google just looks you know, for good solid
- 20:31Speaker 5: content and if it's good solid content what you have
- 20:34Speaker 5: there and you know the favorite video, so that's even better.
- 20:37Speaker 5: So you should be fine. And also you know, there
- 20:41Speaker 5: are a lot of tools to optimize your SEO which
- 20:43Speaker 5: I think everyone should definitely use because this is something
- 20:46Speaker 5: critical these days.
- 20:48Speaker 6: Yeah, it's uh, you know, as you're talking about this podcast,
- 20:52Speaker 6: you know, it's a war of eyeballs and ears now
- 20:54Speaker 6: because you know everyone, you know, the playing field is
- 20:57Speaker 6: even out a lot. You know, obviously, you know, hard
- 21:00Speaker 6: work and talent still count. But you know, if everyone
- 21:03Speaker 6: has a camera, you know you have to be you
- 21:05Speaker 6: have to especially be able to stand out from the
- 21:07Speaker 6: pack definitely. So you know, as we sort of you know,
- 21:12Speaker 6: go on with this conversation, uh, Danielle, I wanted to ask,
- 21:14Speaker 6: you know, when you're putting together a website, you know,
- 21:17Speaker 6: what what are some of the things that you you
- 21:19Speaker 6: usually tell people to to to make sure you focus
- 21:22Speaker 6: on I mean, is there any anything you know, uh,
- 21:24Speaker 6: you know beyond you know, obviously since we're talking a
- 21:26Speaker 6: lot about video, is there anything sort of beyond video
- 21:29Speaker 6: that you make that you tell filmmakers you know, you
- 21:32Speaker 6: make sure to put this on your site, so it
- 21:34Speaker 6: looks you know, it looks and feels and it is
- 21:37Speaker 6: a complete site.
- 21:39Speaker 5: Yeah. So for filmmakers, what I would say besides you know,
- 21:43Speaker 5: having all your content there with all you know, the
- 21:45Speaker 5: additional in front of everything is connect all the social
- 21:48Speaker 5: channels that you have. You're probably using you know, Facebook, Snapchat, whatever,
- 21:52Speaker 5: you want to use them all. You want to show
- 21:54Speaker 5: all the buzzs around your films and all the activity
- 21:56Speaker 5: around it. You want to share updates and behind the
- 21:59Speaker 5: scenes and up I probably do this in like a
- 22:01Speaker 5: production blog, which could be great for filmmakers, you know,
- 22:04Speaker 5: to get people engaged with the movie. And then always
- 22:08Speaker 5: have a press section, you know, make it easy. You
- 22:10Speaker 5: want to get coverage for your film, even if it's
- 22:12Speaker 5: you know not yet like not yet in production, but
- 22:15Speaker 5: you want to get some coverage. You want to you
- 22:16Speaker 5: want to get somebody, make it really easier for media
- 22:19Speaker 5: to find what you're looking for. So I have like
- 22:21Speaker 5: a proper press section with all the media they need
- 22:24Speaker 5: with your context in so make it easy for them
- 22:27Speaker 5: to to help you, to help you get you know,
- 22:30Speaker 5: the coverage you want. Simples for screenings. You know, there
- 22:34Speaker 5: are so many apps and stuff you're just if you're
- 22:36Speaker 5: already out there, just you know, have all your laurels
- 22:39Speaker 5: out and have all your screening dates and everything so
- 22:41Speaker 5: people know where to find you. And so I think
- 22:45Speaker 5: that's that's the most important thing. There's the most things.
- 22:50Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I wanted to ask to Danielle. You know,
- 22:53Speaker 4: I don't know if the answer this question, so I
- 22:55Speaker 4: figured I ask you, are forums still a thing? You
- 22:59Speaker 4: are forums?
- 23:00Speaker 6: You know, back back in the day, you know, where
- 23:02Speaker 6: people who actually have you know, uh, you know, where
- 23:04Speaker 6: they could post different you know things.
- 23:06Speaker 4: I mean, you know, I don't even know if that's
- 23:08Speaker 4: a thing anymore, but I mean, is it? I mean,
- 23:10Speaker 4: uh do do you do?
- 23:11Speaker 6: You know, have you seen filmmakers or even other users
- 23:14Speaker 6: actually you know, try to make try to put forums
- 23:16Speaker 6: into the website and maybe have any any type of
- 23:19Speaker 6: sort of engagement with it.
- 23:21Speaker 5: So yes, definitely. The thing about forums is that people
- 23:25Speaker 5: a lot of times, you know forms, it's just another
- 23:28Speaker 5: way to create a community around something. And if you're
- 23:30Speaker 5: interesting enough or you're doing something that's interesting to users enough,
- 23:34Speaker 5: they'll come and they'll read, and they'll engage and they'll
- 23:36Speaker 5: also want to comment, which is you know, makes perfect sense.
- 23:39Speaker 5: So I do think forums are definitely something that you
- 23:42Speaker 5: should have if you want ongoing engagement, but it needs
- 23:47Speaker 5: to be interesting enough. So I would probably create a
- 23:49Speaker 5: forum around something very specific. For example, you're a Star
- 23:52Speaker 5: Wars example, so Star Wars fans are like hysterical, okay,
- 23:56Speaker 5: And if you have a forum that's all about you know,
- 23:59Speaker 5: Star Wars fans and creating media around it and things
- 24:02Speaker 5: that would totally engage you know, viewers coming to your side,
- 24:06Speaker 5: help them stay longer, and help get them really connected
- 24:09Speaker 5: to what you do. So it's just a strong way
- 24:12Speaker 5: to create a.
- 24:13Speaker 4: Community, okay.
- 24:15Speaker 5: You know.
- 24:16Speaker 6: And that's a good point because I see, you know,
- 24:19Speaker 6: I haven't been on forms in a while, and I've
- 24:21Speaker 6: always wondered if that that was still you know, a
- 24:23Speaker 6: viable option, uh, because again, you know, like we were
- 24:25Speaker 6: just saying, there's so many options out there now, and
- 24:28Speaker 6: I you know, it's you know, you have so many
- 24:30Speaker 6: different things to choose from me, it's hard to sometimes
- 24:33Speaker 6: you know, wonder, you know what I mean, what if
- 24:36Speaker 6: that tool that you you've used before is ever is
- 24:38Speaker 6: still going to be you know, a good option, if
- 24:40Speaker 6: you know what I'm trying to say. So it's you know,
- 24:42Speaker 6: but you know, as you sort of bring this back
- 24:44Speaker 6: to video, uh, you know, even with video, you know,
- 24:47Speaker 6: some of the things, you know, the tools that that
- 24:50Speaker 6: I've used in the past, you know, you can use
- 24:52Speaker 6: some of them still and other ones. It's it's just
- 24:54Speaker 6: like you can't do it anymore. For instance, I used
- 24:56Speaker 6: to have I had a mini DV cam that you know,
- 25:00Speaker 6: if I use it now, I feel like I'm kind
- 25:03Speaker 6: of you know, shooting myself in the foot because I'm
- 25:04Speaker 6: giving myself an extra step because you have to take
- 25:07Speaker 6: the d V the DV tape out of the camera.
- 25:09Speaker 6: You know, you have to you know, digitize the footage
- 25:11Speaker 6: so you can can so you can start editing it
- 25:13Speaker 6: in something like premiere or ADVID, you know. And it's
- 25:16Speaker 6: just you start to say, well, wait a minute, I
- 25:19Speaker 6: want to just to shoot digital to begin with and
- 25:21Speaker 6: eliminate this whole process, you know, you know, you know
- 25:24Speaker 6: what I mean. It's just it's just how things change
- 25:26Speaker 6: anymore so rapidly, uh, you know, in the world we
- 25:29Speaker 6: live in now. Definitely, I'm sorry, Danielle, I mean a report,
- 25:36Speaker 6: I'm sorry, I'm with it awesome, So uh, you know,
- 25:42Speaker 6: and that's something I also wanted to ask too, is
- 25:43Speaker 6: you know, you know, where do you see you know,
- 25:47Speaker 6: wis going in the next couple of years in terms
- 25:49Speaker 6: of you know, video and everything out and everything like that,
- 25:52Speaker 6: and uh, you know, with everything sort of it. You know,
- 25:54Speaker 6: we talked about all different things. You know, is there
- 25:56Speaker 6: any place that you would you can see Wicks going.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Well, I'll tell you the thing. We're like, We're evolved.
- 26:07Speaker 5: We're here to empower video creators. Okay, so as this
- 26:10Speaker 5: industry evolves and as the technology has changed, so we're
- 26:13Speaker 5: going to evolve with that, and we want to provide
- 26:18Speaker 5: you know, easy access to all the tools you're already using.
- 26:22Speaker 5: We want to help you, as we said, build a
- 26:24Speaker 5: community around your content. So we're always going to find
- 26:27Speaker 5: the most the best and most innovative ways to do that.
- 26:30Speaker 5: And I think that this landscape of you know, currently
- 26:34Speaker 5: we're talking about you know, showcasing and distributing your content,
- 26:38Speaker 5: which is something that has changed dramatically in the last
- 26:41Speaker 5: couple of years. And if you look now, then you'll
- 26:43Speaker 5: see this for example, on demand, which is something that
- 26:46Speaker 5: you know, talk to me, like ten years ago, I
- 26:48Speaker 5: wouldn't believe that someone would pay for video on demand,
- 26:51Speaker 5: and today it's like it's the most obvious thing that
- 26:54Speaker 5: you can, you know, sell your content directly to fans.
- 26:56Speaker 5: You can sell you know, your you can sell your skills,
- 26:59Speaker 5: you can sell to MA curials, you can do so
- 27:01Speaker 5: many things with it. So this is something that we
- 27:02Speaker 5: could never imagine. And now this is so common, and
- 27:06Speaker 5: this landscape keeps changing, so we're just gonna we just
- 27:10Speaker 5: plan to change with it.
- 27:13Speaker 6: Yeah, and uh, like we were just saying, you know,
- 27:16Speaker 6: everything changes so rapidly now and you have to sort
- 27:19Speaker 6: of you know, be be be ahead of the curve.
- 27:22Speaker 6: And and you know, again that's where I go back
- 27:24Speaker 6: to with you know, content creation and you know, being
- 27:27Speaker 6: able to get be able to get your stuff out
- 27:29Speaker 6: there to your fans directly, because you know, that's what
- 27:32Speaker 6: you know has happened with technology. You know, over the
- 27:34Speaker 6: past even let's just say ten years, you know, you've
- 27:37Speaker 6: cut out the whole middleman and now you're selling directly
- 27:39Speaker 6: to your fans. You can make a whole uh you know,
- 27:42Speaker 6: a website and you can and talk directly to people,
- 27:45Speaker 6: and once people find your website, you can start you
- 27:47Speaker 6: know engaging with them and uh, you know, hopefully make
- 27:50Speaker 6: a fan for life, and then you know that that
- 27:52Speaker 6: that's something you know, I always wonder where the next
- 27:54Speaker 6: iteration is going to be, but but you know that.
- 27:57Speaker 6: That's what I mean by you know how everything has
- 27:59Speaker 6: changed is you know, maybe it'll be completely different than
- 28:02Speaker 6: what we think it'll be, or maybe it'll you know,
- 28:05Speaker 6: versus you know, changing increments if you know what if
- 28:07Speaker 6: you know what I mean, Yeah.
- 28:09Speaker 5: I think I'm pretty sure. You know, I'm pretty sure
- 28:14Speaker 5: that things are going to change on like different like levels.
- 28:18Speaker 5: So the technology is changing dramatically all the time, and
- 28:22Speaker 5: then the engagement levels that you have and are changing
- 28:25Speaker 5: all the time. So it also it also affects content
- 28:29Speaker 5: that you're creating. So suddenly, you know, you create like
- 28:32Speaker 5: a live stream and you talk to people directly, or
- 28:34Speaker 5: you create like the three sixteen movie and you make
- 28:37Speaker 5: you make your viewers you know, they can select their
- 28:40Speaker 5: next scene or where they're going with it. So there
- 28:42Speaker 5: are so many things that are changing at once. It's
- 28:45Speaker 5: going to be very interesting to see where creators take this,
- 28:48Speaker 5: because they think it's really the power is really in
- 28:50Speaker 5: the creator's hand on how they're going to take this
- 28:53Speaker 5: amazing you know, these amazing technologies and these amazing opportunities
- 28:56Speaker 5: and create like groundbreaking experience instant. It's all about like
- 29:01Speaker 5: creating an experience, not just like you now once you know,
- 29:05Speaker 5: many years ago you would sit in the cinema just
- 29:07Speaker 5: watch a film and just go out. And now it's
- 29:09Speaker 5: like a whole experience experience you're getting into and everything
- 29:12Speaker 5: is getting a lot more interactive. So as time goes,
- 29:14Speaker 5: it's going to be really interesting to see what creators
- 29:17Speaker 5: do with it. And I think the data is like
- 29:19Speaker 5: the Delbety wants to decide where this is going. You
- 29:22Speaker 5: can have the most amazing technology out there, but if
- 29:24Speaker 5: you don't get creators to create amazing things with it,
- 29:28Speaker 5: amazing experiences with it there, it's not going to work.
- 29:32Speaker 4: That is a fantastic point, Danielle. That is absolutely fantastic.
- 29:36Speaker 5: Uh.
- 29:36Speaker 6: You know, Danielle, we've been talking for about thirty minutes,
- 29:40Speaker 6: give or take, you know it. Just in closing, is
- 29:42Speaker 6: there anything that we haven't got a chance to discuss,
- 29:44Speaker 6: or that you want to discuss now, or maybe even
- 29:47Speaker 6: something you wanted to sort of say to put a
- 29:48Speaker 6: period in this whole conversation.
- 29:51Speaker 1: We'll be right back after a word from our sponsor.
- 29:57Speaker 1: And now back to the show.
- 30:03Speaker 5: Mmmm, let's listen, Like if we're talking about like Wix
- 30:08Speaker 5: in general or Wix videos specifically. So the thing to
- 30:12Speaker 5: remember is that we always have creators in mind. So
- 30:16Speaker 5: it's always about you know, having people, giving people the
- 30:20Speaker 5: ability to to have complete control over harder content is displayed,
- 30:25Speaker 5: Like you work so hard, you know, on your latest
- 30:28Speaker 5: short film or whatever. You should be the one to
- 30:30Speaker 5: decide how it's displayed, where it's displayed, how it is monetized.
- 30:34Speaker 5: You should be able to sell a directly if you
- 30:36Speaker 5: want and not rely on any other service. Should be
- 30:39Speaker 5: able to do it on your own domain. Like it's
- 30:41Speaker 5: all about, you know, providing control and giving the giving
- 30:45Speaker 5: the power back, I think, and this is something that
- 30:48Speaker 5: we're doing. So we're a fairly news service at the moment,
- 30:52Speaker 5: and we keep evolving this and improving this over time.
- 30:55Speaker 5: And I think we have amazing stings you know, coming
- 30:59Speaker 5: soon that are not able to discuss. But I'm sure
- 31:02Speaker 5: you will full up after this, and you know, I'm
- 31:05Speaker 5: sure we'll keep talking. And it's been a.
- 31:07Speaker 6: Pleasure and U you know, and obviously we're definitely gonna
- 31:11Speaker 6: keep talking. Danielle and I just wanted to say I'm sorry.
- 31:13Speaker 6: One last question was where can people find you out online?
- 31:17Speaker 5: So you can find us at a wixs dot com.
- 31:20Speaker 5: Basically you have a whole section for video creators with
- 31:23Speaker 5: a lot of beautiful, stunning film templates and templates for
- 31:27Speaker 5: video creators, and then you have the with video apps
- 31:31Speaker 5: and within the side where you can have all the
- 31:33Speaker 5: amazing features we talked about.
- 31:36Speaker 4: And do you have any like personal Twitter or anything
