- 0:01Hi everybody and welcome back to another episode of the Elon Musk
- 0:04Podcast. At today's episode, we delve
- 0:06into the transformation of X, the company formerly known as
- 0:10Twitter, and the vision of his new CEO, Linda Yakorino.
- 0:14And since its acquisition by Elon Musk, X has embarked on a
- 0:18crazy journey aiming to redefine social media as an everything
- 0:23platform. Now from introducing video chats
- 0:25to embracing long form videos, creator subscriptions and a I
- 0:29powered Ed tech, X is striving to be a real time global town
- 0:33square. Now, however, the path towards
- 0:36innovation is full of challenges.
- 0:38Financial struggles, ethical dilemmas, legal battles and
- 0:42public perception are some of the hurdles that X must
- 0:45overcome. And we'll explore Yakorino's
- 0:47leadership strategies and Musk's role in reshaping the platform,
- 0:51as well as dissect the controversies and promising
- 0:54opportunities that lay ahead for X CEO Linda Yakorino's vision
- 0:59for X extends beyond microblogging.
- 1:02She's working to transform the platform into an Everything app,
- 1:05a concept that aims to seamlessly integrate various
- 1:08forms of media, communication and transactions within one
- 1:11platform. Now, Yakorino confirmed the
- 1:15video chat will soon be introduced as part of the
- 1:17transformation, stating soon you'll be able to make video
- 1:21chat calls without having to give your phone number to anyone
- 1:24on the platform while entering the crowded video chat market.
- 1:28As a bold move, X sees it as a step towards becoming a real
- 1:31time global town square. The company is reimagining
- 1:35itself as a hub for multiple activities including long form
- 1:38videos, payments, greater subscriptions and interactive
- 1:43video experiences. One of X's first significant
- 1:46forays into new territories was the long form.
- 1:49Video subscribers can now upload videos up to two hours long now.
- 1:54This move caters to both advertisers like Apple, which
- 1:57use the platform to promote its series silo, and content
- 2:01creators who were given new opportunities to engage with
- 2:03their audiences. X also began paying content
- 2:07creators who have significant followings, turning itself into
- 2:11a platform that rewards creativity and influence.
- 2:15Now Yukarino views this as part of X's evolution past, a legacy
- 2:19mindset allowing for reimagining of how people interact and
- 2:23transact online. The optimism expressed by
- 2:27Yacorino about X's future is backed by a strategic approach
- 2:30focusing on advertising, data licensing and new business
- 2:34ventures. And Yacorino, with her expertise
- 2:37in advertising, is driving innovations within the company.
- 2:40She's spearheading efforts to integrate AI powered ad tech,
- 2:44providing brands with greater control over ad placements.
- 2:47By offering options to brands regarding the content their ads
- 2:50are placed alongside, Yaka Reno hopes to create a more
- 2:54personalized and strategic advertising experience.
- 2:57They said our data licensing and API with X is an incredible
- 3:02business. Our new subscription business is
- 3:05growing. This statement underscores the
- 3:07CEO's belief in diversifying revenue streams and creating
- 3:11robust business models that extend beyond traditional social
- 3:14media functions. And despite the optimistic
- 3:17outlook, X faces a multitude of challenges that need careful
- 3:22navigation. Yakirino's claimed that X is
- 3:24nearing a break, even pointless noteworthy especially
- 3:27considering the significant financial struggles since its
- 3:30acquisition by Elon Musk. Ad revenue is in decline and the
- 3:34company has implemented measures such as limiting rates for non
- 3:37subscribers of Twitter Blue and hiking API access fees to boost
- 3:42cash flow. X's move to reduce its staff
- 3:45size without fulfilling promises of three months severance for
- 3:48laid off employees raises ethical and legal concerns.
- 3:52Additionally, the company is embroidled in lawsuits over
- 3:55unpaid rent for office spaces across several countries, and
- 3:59Yukarino's assertion that 99.9% of posted impressions on X are
- 4:04healthy has drawn scrutiny. Her stance on freedom of speech,
- 4:08not freedom of reach, raises questions about the platform's
- 4:12responsibility and approach to moderating content with public
- 4:16figures known for controversial opinions.
- 4:18Returning to the platform, Yakarino's ability to address
- 4:21these concerns will be closely watched now.
- 4:23Yakarino's vision for X represents a huge attempt to
- 4:27redefine social media for video chats and long form content to a
- 4:31diversified approach to revenue generation.
- 4:34X's feature looks to be a blend of innovation and expansion.
- 4:38However, this promising future is not without the obstacles,
- 4:41financial struggles, legal troubles, and questions about
- 4:44content moderation and Yacorino's leadership, strategic
- 4:48approach and ability to navigate these challenges will really
- 4:52determine X's success in this transformation.
- 4:55And as Yacorino continues her daily meetings with brands and
- 4:58pushes for innovations and advertising and business models,
- 5:01her leadership will be tested by the complex landscape of social
- 5:05media and for tech. And the CEO's ability to align
- 5:08the company with its rebranded identity X and guided towards
- 5:12the vision of an everything app will be crucial for the future.
- 5:16Now, the journey for X under Yacarino stewardship is akin to
- 5:20a carefully plotted course through turbulent waters.
- 5:23The integration of various services into a single platform
- 5:26presents both opportunities and risks.
- 5:29The road ahead is full of potential pitfalls, but the
- 5:33destination, if reached, could redefine the way we interact
- 5:37online and Yacarino's own words, she said.
- 5:40We'll see if that cage match really does happen.
- 5:44The same can be set for X's transformation.
- 5:46Many will be watching to see if these plans translate into a
- 5:49tangible success for the platform.
- 5:51Now. X's metamorphosis, guided by
- 5:53Yacarino, is still unfolding and the outcome is uncertain.
