Transcript
- 0:00Hi folks, this is Rick Doc. Walker the DOC this.
- 0:03Is John Kime and you're listening to the mess hall with
- 0:05rally captain and tailgate 10. What's going on rally I'm going
- 0:10to have to ask time and doc to change that for me, man.
- 0:14It's going to have to be a fan of the year.
- 0:17Rally captain and tailgate Ted. Hey man, I am just over excited
- 0:24and overjoyed to find that out Yesterday.
- 0:26I had no clue and it meant a lot.
- 0:30I almost started crying actually, Tuna said.
- 0:31I did start crying. So a couple tears were shed.
- 0:35I must say. It be Mitch, he said.
- 0:37I bet not see it, I bet not see it.
- 0:40It, it it was too late. They you know, they it was, it
- 0:43was windy last night. So that's what it was.
- 0:44Yeah, it was kind of windy. I mean, Northwest is on a hill,
- 0:48so. I'm good.
- 0:49Man, I mean they just bad for you that it was in a night game
- 0:53so you couldn't have sunglasses on trying, you know, cover up.
- 0:55But then it's those that don't know our rally captain is the
- 1:01Washington Commanders NFL fan of the year.
- 1:04And dude, it's just I know that you've been posted like Tunis,
- 1:08everyone's been posting stuff, you know, vote for rally.
- 1:10This is something that you deserve.
- 1:12Dude, it's you talk about some of the behind the scenes on the
- 1:16podcast. A lot of people don't know like
- 1:19what it took for you to pick up the ball when the team fumble
- 1:24doing those rallies, right? A lot of people have no idea.
- 1:27Let me tell you. So it's funny that you talk
- 1:29about that because I was talking to Hawk former Chris early today
- 1:34and I said he goes, you started the rallies like in 2020, right?
- 1:39And I said, no, the first rally that I ever did was when we
- 1:44played against Jacksonville in 2018 at Miller's Ale House.
- 1:48I even remember the name because that was the, the team said,
- 1:51hey, we don't feel we have a huge fan base in Jacksonville
- 1:54and because of it, we're not going to have a rally.
- 1:56And I said, well, I'm going to put something together because
- 2:00fans are coming in. So I honestly didn't really
- 2:03expect that many people to be honest with you, Ted.
- 2:06We had over like 400 people at this rally in at Miller's Ale
- 2:09House in Jacksonville and I just was amazed at all those people
- 2:16that came out for this impromptu rally that I just put out.
- 2:20I want to say it was the game was Sunday.
- 2:22Obviously this was Saturday. I put this out and I made a
- 2:25little video and and people just came out of nowhere.
- 2:28So that was actually the beginning of all this in 2018.
- 2:32So what was on the back of your jersey back in 2018?
- 2:35Did it say rally captain or what did it say?
- 2:37Rally captain, it's always there.
- 2:39Rally captain, I think, I mean, I do have, I think I have two
- 2:42RG3 jerseys, have a Sean Taylor jersey.
- 2:45I have a Colt McCoy jersey. Yeah.
- 2:49And. No wonder you don't buy them
- 2:50anymore. No.
- 2:52And A and a rally captain. And I said after that, every
- 2:55jersey from here on out will be rally captain and I'll pay
- 2:58homage, you know, to 21 or or 89 or whatever have you.
- 3:02But for the most part, all my jerseys now will say rally
- 3:05captain. And so that's what it is.
- 3:06Except for this one, except for this one.
- 3:09This one says end of the year. Then the number 25 for the year
- 3:152025. That's so awesome.
- 3:17I am so happy for you and proud right, just knowing that it's
- 3:23something that you deserve and none of this is a slight or just
- 3:27knock on past fan of the years. We're friends with them.
- 3:30We know all of them. They are all great people, but
- 3:33out of people I know that were in the running, you, my friend,
- 3:38definitely deserved it right shoot you, you trademarked Rep
- 3:41it harder. Don't Rep it all and I'll I'll
- 3:43buy you a cerveza when we get to Spain, right?
- 3:46But it's just. I I'm definitely.
- 3:49Deaf with sangria the. Heck.
- 3:51Yeah, we all see you at every game, home and away, right?
- 3:56I know everything you do to help people get to these games home
- 4:01and away. I mean, how many people are you
- 4:02taking to Spain? Over 200 man I.
- 4:06Mean we've talked about the logistics and that behind the
- 4:09scenes when the, you know, record buttons off and we're not
- 4:12live and just man, I'm I'm happy.
- 4:16I know I've said it multiple Times Now.
- 4:18I cannot wait to see what happens next.
- 4:23And for those of our listeners, we're going to need your help,
- 4:26right because next week the NFL is going to start their NFL fan
- 4:33of the year. Not just a commander's fan of
- 4:35the year, the NFL fan of the year.
- 4:37And this is where each NFL teams fan of the year is put into a
- 4:41vote up against all the other ones.
- 4:44So we need you guys to, you know, lack of a better word,
- 4:47rally around rally to start voting for him so he can win
- 4:51that award. I would greatly appreciate it,
- 4:54you guys. I have to tell you that I'm
- 4:56still awestruck in getting this award because not only does it
- 5:02represent me, it represents all of you guys as well.
- 5:05Because without you, there will be no me.
- 5:08And I always say that and I thank everyone who voted for me.
- 5:11I will continue to say thank you for the everybody that voted for
- 5:14me and all I can tell you is I will do my best to represent you
- 5:20guys even more so than what I've done thus far.
- 5:23Oh, I got no doubt about that. But give us a little behind the
- 5:27scenes, right? Because I saw a picture on, I
- 5:31think it was on Instagram or maybe on exit you put up.
- 5:34How did they let you know? Like what were you doing?
- 5:36Because I know you get to the game and obviously you stopped
- 5:39the tailgate and I think I was deep frying some chicken wings
- 5:42at that point and they hadn't told you then.
- 5:45So when did you find out? Well, so I got a phone call or a
- 5:50text that said, Hey, we need you to be in the Legends area
- 5:54because we want to do an interview with you talking about
- 5:58the rallies that you put on. And I was like the rally, OK, I
- 6:03said, but I've done hundreds. I shouldn't say hundreds.
- 6:06I've done 10s of 10s of, of, of interviews, hundreds of
- 6:10interviews. How about that?
- 6:11Hundreds of interviews. And so I just was like, OK, it's
- 6:14just another interview that I'm going to be talking about the
- 6:18upcoming rally hypothetically in Minnes, in Minnesota.
- 6:21And so I, I get up to where the Legends Plaza is and that's
- 6:27where they do the command corner, command center.
- 6:31I'm sorry I. Think the command center.
- 6:32Yeah, command corner is the tailgate and the.
- 6:34Red tailgate command center correct?
- 6:35Command center is with B Mitch, Brian and Santana.
- 6:40And they were doing their show and they said, OK, we want you
- 6:45to wait over here. And I was like, all right, well,
- 6:48you know, Gee, this is going to be kind of like a, a stand up.
- 6:52I, I was expecting to be sitting down in there behind the desk
- 6:55where they always sit down at right for the pregame.
- 6:59And they said, Hey, by the way, rally captain, come on up here
- 7:03and so we can talk to you. And, and so I've got my mind
- 7:07thinking about, you know, the rallies and Minnesota and the
- 7:11time and, and all that type of stuff.
- 7:13And, and, and I couldn't really hear Brian, but he said, you
- 7:15know, when you have a a fan like you, who you know, you have, you
- 7:21have fans that are fans obviously here for the day.
- 7:23You have fans that are that are monthly.
- 7:26And then you have actually fans of the year.
- 7:28And you know, because of that, we want to give you this jersey.
- 7:31And so but the the Fan of the Year was turned the opposite
- 7:35way. So you just saw it said 5. 25
- 7:38and I and I said 25 I'm thinking I really don't naughty, you
- 7:43know, I'm not really. Trying to think of who was 25 on
- 7:46our rocker. Exactly.
- 7:47And so I'm like, oh, they're going to ask me a question about
- 7:49who 25 is all all this stuff is, is running through my mind.
- 7:53And then he he says, no, turn it around and look at it.
- 7:56And I turn around and look at it and I was just floored, bro.
- 7:58I was. That's awesome man.
- 8:01I just, I I'm bummed that I wasn't there to witness it in
- 8:05person. I'm guessing it was on the
- 8:07pregame telecast, so if people miss it, I think that's on
- 8:10YouTube you can catch it. I'll see if I can find a clip of
- 8:13it and share it. So 25 is Darnell Savage on our
- 8:17team. Free safety.
- 8:18So glad it doesn't say Savage on the back.
- 8:20So that'd be pretty. Got a bad ass to have Savage on
- 8:22the back of your jersey? Wouldn't that be something?
- 8:26But seeing that you got that man, so did did they put you on
- 8:29microphone at that point? Do you have to give a speech or
- 8:32how did it go? So the actual podcast or show
- 8:39that they were doing had a microphone to it wasn't
- 8:42throughout the stadium, if you will, It was just in their
- 8:44little area. And so I, I said a couple words
- 8:47and after I said my, my, my rapid harder, don't RIP it at
- 8:53all. Brian dropped the mic and the
- 8:54show was over. So.
- 8:57All right, so it was right at the end of the show.
- 8:59So for those of you wondering, you're going to watch the entire
- 9:02pregame show. Don't get me wrong.
- 9:04Beat Tana. Yeah, beat Tana and Brian do a
- 9:07good job. But we'll see if we can find it
- 9:09and put that out there. So that's that's great, man.
- 9:12And I just know from when we were out at the draft in
- 9:15Detroit, the fan of the years, they get to go to the draft.
- 9:21I know that's one thing that they've done in the past.
- 9:23And they also get to go to the Super Bowl, if I'm not mistaken.
- 9:27So you got you looking in a different misses rally, looking
- 9:32at different places out in wine country in San Fran.
- 9:35Take a little side trip to. I got to tell you, Ted, So I
- 9:39haven't done anything just yet. It's coming though.
- 9:43But right now I, I told you, went to work after the game.
- 9:50And for those, you know, I have to be at work at the crack of
- 9:53dawn and even before dawn. So I basically got it like 2
- 9:58hours of sleep, if you will. And I was just tired.
- 10:02I, I, I made it through work and I came home and went to bed.
- 10:07And I told you it's 530 now. And normally we do our, our pod,
- 10:10you know, 4330, whatever. I was like, dude, I've got to
- 10:13get some sleep and I'll get back up at 5:30.
- 10:15So we'll, we'll go from there. But so I haven't been able to do
- 10:19anything but it's coming. That's that's exciting man.
- 10:23And I just make sure to take more pictures so we can go
- 10:28through this journey with you because everyone loves the
- 10:32videos you do. But just to, you know, be a part
- 10:36of this from periphery with you is something that I know that
- 10:39our listeners and your followers and everyone on social media is
- 10:42going to want to be a part of. Just everyone feels like they
- 10:46know you because you are so out there and so welcoming you take
- 10:49pictures with everybody and obviously your rally captain
- 10:51page. So it'll be like they're going
- 10:54through this process with you, man.
- 10:55And I'm excited, I really AM. And this is just, you know,
- 11:00happy that it was you, brother. Really, really AM.
- 11:03Let me tell you, a lot of people have said nothing against our
- 11:08previous winners, nothing against them.
- 11:10They, they all have made fan of the year.
- 11:12But they said, you know what, echoing what you just said.
- 11:16I I've seen them kind of, but I really don't know them.
- 11:21Like I know you, I feel connected with you because of
- 11:25what you do and what you've been from the rallies to, to like you
- 11:29said, the different pictures that the different tailgates.
- 11:32They, they feel as though I'm a regular guy, which I am a
- 11:35regular guy, but they really didn't, don't know the other
- 11:38people, if you will. And so the connection is there
- 11:41what you said. So I'm just want to, I want to
- 11:43echo what you said and, and that means a lot because I am a just
- 11:47an everyday guy just like everybody else.
- 11:49Sure. I mean, you had to go right to
- 11:50work, you know, right after the game, right there.
- 11:53There's no, no sleep. No.
- 11:55I mean, Speaking of, you know, hanging out with all the other
- 11:59people in the fan base, I actually got to on Saturday
- 12:01night go to an event at MGM National Harbor for Art Monks
- 12:06Jersey retirement. So the official retirement was
- 12:10Sunday at the stadium, but Saturday an e-mail went out
- 12:13prior to season ticket holders for this event at National
- 12:17Harbor. So I had no idea what to expect.
- 12:19I get the e-mail and they send out that no, before you go.
- 12:24And in it, it said cocktail attire, something in awe.
- 12:28Damn. OK, I can't rock a jersey.
- 12:29There goes a tailgate tad jersey.
- 12:31There goes me wearing a polo, right.
- 12:33So I got to find something. So missus tailgate and I dressed
- 12:36up. She had a nice little outfit on.
- 12:38I ended up rocking a suit and I had a a commander's T-shirt
- 12:42under the suit. I'm not going full out like
- 12:45that. So I figured, you know, I had a
- 12:46suit and everything else on. I still have the breaking TT
- 12:48shirt. And I get there, I get in line,
- 12:51we're first in line at 5 O clock.
- 12:53But walking through, walking through The MGM, there's fans
- 12:57everywhere, craps tables, roulette tables hanging out here
- 12:59waiting for things to open up. So the place was just packed
- 13:03full of burgundy and gold. And this was Saturday before,
- 13:07you know, Saturday, right after Halloween.
- 13:09So the place was bumping anyway. On top of that, Fast forward,
- 13:15they open the doors and it's a mad dash.
- 13:19The seats weren't assigned. So you can sit anywhere you want
- 13:23even though the ticket had assigned seating on it.
- 13:25The seats weren't assigned. Nobody was checking for it.
- 13:28They said it's open, so I mean, our fans are very respectful.
- 13:33People weren't knocking people over.
- 13:35It wasn't crazy like that, but everybody wanted to get a good
- 13:38seat up in the front. So I went up in the front and
- 13:41this is Tina hour front row, center stage is kind of hanging
- 13:44out there talking with people, shaking hands, taking pictures.
- 13:48You know, it's a good time. And back to the whole Facebook
- 13:51thing. Everyone feels like they know
- 13:52you. So the wife, she's actually
- 13:54stopped asking me. Do you know that person anymore?
- 13:56It's like I think we're Facebook friends or someone will say
- 13:59something because I, you know, saw a post on there.
- 14:02But they showed a documentary of basically Art Monk.
- 14:08And I'm trying to remember, I want to say it's Tim Johnson and
- 14:12some of the nonprofit charity work that they do going to
- 14:15different prisons and trying to help troubled youth.
- 14:19And they turned the event basically into a fundraiser for
- 14:23Fathers No More, which is the nonprofit that they work with.
- 14:28And next thing you know, that's done.
- 14:30We watch the documentary for an hour and a half.
- 14:32Good documentary, definitely heartwarming.
- 14:34Definitely shed some tears for some of the people in the
- 14:36audience. And then the actual meat of the
- 14:40event starts at really all of us were there for, right?
- 14:44Mark Klaus brings out Art Monk. I put up a video.
- 14:47They gave him that burgundy jacket and inside the jacket was
- 14:51pictures of his entire family, which I thought was awesome,
- 14:54right? And next thing you know,
- 14:57outcomes, art outcomes Charles Mann and outcomes Pastor Tim
- 15:00Johnson. So they're the first panel up
- 15:02there. Ryan Clark is the MC and then
- 15:07and this is going to be horrible, but this white guy who
- 15:09I still don't know who he is, but I guess he's Serena Williams
- 15:13husband and he's popular. I have no idea.
- 15:16I just that's just not what I listen to or pay attention to.
- 15:19He's not all one O 6-7 the fan or team 980.
- 15:22So I just don't know what he does.
- 15:23But that was the panel. So they were telling stories
- 15:26about art, kind of go back and forth, joking.
- 15:29And the next thing you know, all of a sudden Pfizer walks out,
- 15:35right? Doug walks out, Mark Ripon walks
- 15:38out. So all of his quarterbacks that
- 15:40he won the Super Bowl with were out there on stage.
- 15:42And it was just, it was so awesome being a old school
- 15:48Burgundy and Gold fan to be able to be there and witness all
- 15:52those guys coming back together again, man.
- 15:54And I try to take as many videos as I could so I could, you know,
- 15:58share it with everybody else that didn't get a chance to be
- 16:00there because Saturday night, you know, during season, it's
- 16:04tough for people to get out there.
- 16:05And also National Harbor is not the easiest to get to.
- 16:07And the next thing, you know, after that, the posse came out.
- 16:11So it was Gary Clark and Ricky Sanders and Art and Gary's
- 16:15obviously the boisterous personality and everyone, you
- 16:18know, it's kind of jokes. And I think Gary was kind of the
- 16:20bad boy in that group. And he actually gave the history
- 16:23of how the posse term came to be.
- 16:25They had a big poster up there and it was a poster from, you
- 16:29know, maybe 1980 something. And it was the posse.
- 16:33And then in the corner of the poster, there's actually two
- 16:38people dressed up as Cowboys tied up with a rope, right?
- 16:42I don't think you can get away with that nowadays, but I I, it
- 16:45cracked me up that they put that up there.
- 16:47Wow, man, I hate that that I couldn't make that.
- 16:52Obviously once again, you don't know how the sausage is made,
- 16:56but I was at home working with SV events for Spain, so I
- 16:59couldn't make it. And I, you asked me and I was
- 17:01like, Nah man, because I got the same RSVP that you did, but I, I
- 17:04had to turn it down and just couldn't do it.
- 17:07But I wish I would have been there now because there's some
- 17:09things that you miss like this that are priceless, you'll never
- 17:13be able to get back. Yeah, it just Art doesn't travel
- 17:17a lot and don't come out and do a lot of stuff.
- 17:19And those that were at the game, I mean, his speech wasn't much
- 17:23of A speech, but it did come up multiple times because the knock
- 17:27on Art was he just didn't talk to the media.
- 17:30But he explained and his teammates explained multiple
- 17:32times he didn't talk to the media because he wanted to focus
- 17:35on being the best player and the best teammate that he could
- 17:39possibly be. And I'm going to say he was that
- 17:43right? Just throughout the night, the
- 17:45theme of it was how amazing a player art was.
- 17:50And I think one person said it wasn't WWJD, like, what would
- 17:54Jesus do? It was WWAD like, what would art
- 17:57do, right? And he was just the epitome of
- 18:01like the best teammate and redskin that there was.
- 18:04And did you go to Canton in a way when he and Darryl got in?
- 18:08I think I'm going to ask you this before.
- 18:09I did not not know wait, I didn't.
- 18:11I went to Canton and maybe 2013, possibly 2014.
- 18:18Was that when Grimm got in or I don't remember when?
- 18:21That one was OK regardless. I mean, it was just it was so
- 18:24awesome being there and it felt like that again.
- 18:27So Fast forward to the event at the game, right?
- 18:31And they're honoring art and they gave out these light up
- 18:35wristbands, similar to the wristbands that we all got for
- 18:37the Bears game, which I think did you get one or you missed
- 18:40that 'cause that's when you got there.
- 18:41Late. I missed it.
- 18:42Yeah, I got there late. So you got the wristband this
- 18:44time? And I sure did.
- 18:45So you what you think of the light show 'cause you missed a
- 18:47light show last time ahead of time?
- 18:49I thought it was awesome how it's like the when you order a
- 18:54food item to go or you waiting for your table to be ready and
- 18:58they have that electronic timer or, or or signal on there that
- 19:03allows them certain parts of the show to blink either red, gold
- 19:09or even white, if you will. And I, I looked at my wrist and
- 19:13it kind of, kind of shook me for a second because like you said,
- 19:16I, I hadn't witnessed that before.
- 19:18And when we were in Kansas City, they had, but obviously the
- 19:21Kansas City fans had them on their wrist.
- 19:23But, and I was just shocked that, well, OK.
- 19:26And then to see it blink amongst all the other people's, it was
- 19:31just a a great feeling man. It's just, it just goes back to
- 19:35the investment ownership has made into our fan experience,
- 19:37right? Yeah.
- 19:38Control what you can control. You have no control over how the
- 19:43players can perform on the field.
- 19:44So I'm not even talking about that, but the pregame
- 19:46experience, right? It was just it was awesome.
- 19:49They're leaning in hardcore, this whole Commanders thing,
- 19:52right? Josh Harris talked about how the
- 19:54rebrand of Commanders, they're rebranding it basically, sorry,
- 19:58the relaunch of Commanders. Started when Daryl was out there
- 20:02with that spear for the Bears game and they're just going to
- 20:05kind of keep going with it. So I haven't been in the stadium
- 20:07that early to watch that video of the guy walking out with the
- 20:12hood and the spear and this and that and the guys coming out the
- 20:15locker room. Our tailgate wrapped up.
- 20:17We finished up, I don't want to say earlier, but we had a lot of
- 20:21people there so we can clean up early.
- 20:22So I got in at 8 O clock, which is unheard of for me to get in
- 20:27with 20 minutes of spare. So to get to watch and
- 20:30experience that entire thing, man, it just, it felt games of
- 20:34thronie to me, which maybe that's what they're going for,
- 20:38but it just, it felt like we actually had a real team, right?
- 20:43Not just this high school podunk thing that the past guys were
- 20:48charging us an arm and a leg for.
- 20:50And the next thing you know, all we get is maybe they'll call
- 20:53people's names when they come out of the field.
- 20:56One thing that I definitely will continue to say is you can tell
- 21:00that they upgraded the sound system.
- 21:03I mean, they, they have really put in work and the video
- 21:08boards. That's crystal clear, man.
- 21:11And I, I just, I, I love that, that you can actually hear now
- 21:15what's going on. The retrographics that they did
- 21:18because it was a Super Bowl era night, you know, it reminded me
- 21:21of kind of watching the game of my Pops back in the day, kind of
- 21:24like the little grainy like video game type graphics that
- 21:27they were doing. Remember when we were in
- 21:29Atlanta, I want to say it was three years ago, they had that
- 21:32throwback night and all their graphics were kind of like that.
- 21:36The point of their mascot would dress up as different stuff from
- 21:39like back in the 80s. I mean, I just I appreciate them
- 21:43doing anything they possibly could to make the in game
- 21:48experience fun short of, you know, what was going on in the
- 21:50field. But for you, before we get to
- 21:53that, how was it walking around the tailgate lots?
- 21:55Because I know some people were kind of down about Kansas City,
- 21:59right? I didn't get the temperature of
- 22:01the fan base heading into the game.
- 22:03I mean, what was it like when you got to the red zone?
- 22:06Oh, man, it was very lively. You know, people were upbeat.
- 22:13You know, they said they understand that, hey, Kansas
- 22:15City is Kansas City. They are a powerhouse.
- 22:17We we limped into Kansas City basically.
- 22:20And it's kind of like, OK, yeah, we hate that we lost, but we've
- 22:25moved on and it's a new day fighting fight for another day,
- 22:28a new day. And so the vibe was great.
- 22:33Every everyone. It was almost like as if Kansas
- 22:36City never even happened. And what they were focused on
- 22:39was the Seahawks. Yeah, it's honestly that's what
- 22:43it felt at my tailgate, right? And I, I did make a little
- 22:45speech just because I I do that at our tailgate A thanking
- 22:48everybody we have we're changing the charity, we're pausing the
- 22:53charity that we were sponsored before, right?
- 22:55With everything going on right now, we're supporting the
- 22:58Capital Area Food Bank until the government shutdown is done.
- 23:01This isn't to get political, don't care which way you go,
- 23:03left, right, blue-green, whatever.
- 23:05But we got neighbors in the hill.
- 23:07So our tailgate is now helping out with that.
- 23:10We've raised, I want to say it's close to $2000 for the food
- 23:13bank, right? So we're just the vibe out
- 23:15there, just kind of talking to everybody about it.
- 23:18We were running high, man. And I picked us to win this game
- 23:23up against Seattle, knowing what we're going up against, knowing
- 23:26that they had a damn good defense, because I just thought
- 23:29that our guys would have played better than they actually did.
- 23:34And all of a sudden, right just to go down what, 24 nothing or
- 23:42however many. It was 21 nothing and then 2028
- 23:45nothing. And I, and I said, man, if we
- 23:47were playing Madden, and I don't know if you play Madden or not,
- 23:49but if you play Madden and you're playing against an
- 23:52opponent, once you get to 21 to nothing before halftime, you got
- 23:55to give the game up. You got to get your paddles up
- 23:57to it for another player to come on board.
- 24:00If you're playing against somebody that's in front of you
- 24:02and 21 nothing in Madden before halftime is a skunk.
- 24:06You got to get those paddles up. And I said, oh, man, here we go,
- 24:09guys. God Dang it.
- 24:11Just the just the things that we were doing just didn't make
- 24:15sense. And it it, it reminded me and I,
- 24:17and I hate to say this, and this will be the only time I use this
- 24:19reference. It reminded us that we were
- 24:22under the previous regime. Man, it just seemed that way.
- 24:25It felt that way outside of the light show and the pregame.
- 24:31Once it started happening, it just made me just go back and I
- 24:35don't ever want to go back, but that's what it felt like.
- 24:38That's what I felt like watching.
- 24:40It yeah. And then 28 to nothing, it was
- 24:43hurtful, bro. It just wasn't.
- 24:45And The thing is, we can say that because we're fans and and
- 24:49it's true. We're not talking, we're not
- 24:51bashing anybody. 28 to nothing was very hard to swallow.
- 24:54And people started leaving. People, people, people started
- 24:57leaving and they, I thought that they were going to the bathroom
- 25:00because it's halftime. No, they never came back.
- 25:04So that's, I'm, I'm sitting there, I'm always yelling,
- 25:07screaming, losing my voice. I just, I can't not be there and
- 25:11participate in the game, right? And I tend to not talk to fans
- 25:16when we're there because I'm letting people do them, right?
- 25:19There was a very, very loud Seahawks fan beside me to my
- 25:22left. And in actuality, he was a
- 25:25Vikings fan who was just there to troll people.
- 25:28So he actually admitted that said, I don't even like the
- 25:31Seahawks. I just wore the jersey because
- 25:32of my buddies. And I want to give you guys a
- 25:33hard time. All right?
- 25:35So there's obviously, you know, people like that in the stands.
- 25:36It was what it was. But he kept asking everybody,
- 25:39oh, you're not leaving yet, are you?
- 25:40Where you going? And it's like, I wanted to ask
- 25:44them if you guys are going to go leave after art ceremony, right?
- 25:49Don't leave now. Wait until after halftime so we
- 25:53can all honor this man that gave his blood sweat and tears and
- 25:57then go home. But I just I know everybody was
- 26:00in their feelings and rightfully so.
- 26:01We we're getting our butts whooped, right?
- 26:03It was not a fun game to watch, right?
- 26:05It's just every chance we could get something went wrong.
- 26:08Sam Darnold did not incomplete a pass until the third quarter.
- 26:13He was perfect in the first quarter, right And I just.
- 26:17Bad for him, bad, bad for us. I could not believe it, man.
- 26:21And finally, the moment we're all waiting for, right, the
- 26:25whole art mock jersey retirement, everything else.
- 26:28I thought that they did a great job of that check Hernandez
- 26:31being the MC Josh Harris was out there and art and you can see
- 26:36his entire family down there. The light show would like the
- 26:39lasers on the field and everything else.
- 26:42May I I hope that granted, I don't know if we have any more
- 26:45night games. I know we've got the bears.
- 26:47Actually, no. We got the the Broncos is a
- 26:50night game unless they flex us out of that thing, I think.
- 26:53They will. Yeah, I think they will.
- 26:56I mean, at at that point in time, I I think they definitely
- 26:58can. So, but to see well, what we'll
- 27:02get to, I don't to see Bo Nixon, Jaden, maybe not, but now I
- 27:06don't know if we're going to get to see Jaden for a while.
- 27:09All right, It's just going down and seeing it.
- 27:13What were you thinking when we're down by that many points
- 27:19and five, we're still out there. Ed 1st I, I really didn't pay
- 27:29attention to it. And then I think it was maybe 10
- 27:34minutes left in the game or something like that.
- 27:37And I, and I said, wow, he's, he's still out here.
- 27:42But I said, OK, he's, he's, he's a competitor.
- 27:45That, that's what went to my mind.
- 27:47I, I, I was confused, but at the same time he's a competitor.
- 27:54So I was kind of 5050, if you will.
- 27:58And then I think it got down like to 7 minutes and I was
- 28:03like, oh man. I, I was saying to myself, I
- 28:06don't think he should be out here.
- 28:08That's what because I don't think that Bill came back out.
- 28:11They, they, they gave a heavy doses of mix of Rodriguez.
- 28:16I'm not, I'm not sure. Yeah, yeah.
- 28:19And I, and I said, well, Mcnichols and not Mcnichols, but
- 28:22if Bill isn't out there, then I don't know why he's out here.
- 28:26But once again, it's, it's something that I'm saying to
- 28:29myself, if you will not, not really, not really saying what
- 28:32are you doing? You know, I'm, I'm not that.
- 28:35It's just one of those things. And so we're driving and still
- 28:41I, I wasn't really thinking about it, but like I said, it's
- 28:44in, it's in my mind. I'm not going to say you're
- 28:46going to lie to you and say no, I mean, you should never.
- 28:49I, I just was OK. We're, we're, we're moving, but
- 28:52maybe I don't know, it just it felt weird.
- 28:55And then all of a sudden the unthinkable happened and here we
- 29:00are. And then I said, then I said he
- 29:04shouldn't have been out there. So this was actually DQ talking
- 29:09about his thought process on Jayden being out there.
- 29:13Was there any consideration did not having Jayden go in for that
- 29:17series in which he got injured and having Marcus finished out?
- 29:20Yeah, not not the space. I mean, obviously like the
- 29:23hindsight, you don't want to think that way where, you know,
- 29:25an injury could take place. You know, obviously we're more
- 29:28conservative in that spot to, you know, run and hand off and
- 29:31not have reads to go. But just the end result, Nikki,
- 29:35I'm I'm bummed. So that was postgame, right?
- 29:40And you had a ton of people yelling at streaming?
- 29:43Me personally, I was fine and I'm still fine with Jaden being
- 29:48out there, right? So I am watching them drive down
- 29:51the field towards your end zone. The game's out of reach at this
- 29:53point, right? Nothing is going to happen.
- 29:55We're not going to come back. But I was trying to remember the
- 29:58last time we came back from a deficit, and I want to say it
- 30:01was 24 points against the Bucks that you like that game with
- 30:04Kirk Cousins. Kirk.
- 30:05Cousins So I'm thinking, OK, in the beginning of the 3rd, I'm
- 30:09thinking, OK, we stopped them because they got the ball at
- 30:11kickoff. Like first we did what you
- 30:15wanted to do before where we took the ball, right?
- 30:18We started off of the ball. The freaking first play of the
- 30:22game. Luke McCaffrey broken
- 30:25collarbone, right? If that wasn't foreshadowing for
- 30:28how the hell the night was going to go, I mean, there ain't much
- 30:30else it is. But they got the ball at the
- 30:34half. We stopped them.
- 30:35Our defense actually held them on 3rd and one.
- 30:37It's like, you have to be kidding me.
- 30:38And I think that play might have been the play that Lattimore
- 30:42broke up right there. And I think he got hurt after
- 30:45that play. So next thing you know, like we
- 30:48still got a chance at this Fast forward.
- 30:50Obviously we don't have a chance, right?
- 30:52There are way too many penalties, right?
- 30:54I mean, I don't I don't know why Zach Ertz kept jumping off
- 30:58sides, right? I just did he did he have to go
- 31:01to the bathroom? And you know how you got to go
- 31:02to the bathroom sometimes you're jumping up and down like what
- 31:05was going on? It just it made no sense to me.
- 31:06The guy is a freaking vet and a half and I just, I it bothers.
- 31:11We just kept shooting ourselves in the foot and you can tell
- 31:14after a while this ain't going to happen.
- 31:16But the one thing that was apparent to me was at the first
- 31:20quarter, Jaden had to be Superman.
- 31:22Nobody was getting open. The offense looked horrible.
- 31:25I mean from your vantage point, because you see that end zone
- 31:27view and everything developed what it looked like to you.
- 31:31Open, close, open, close. That's that's what it looked
- 31:34like. It looked like hike.
- 31:36Oh, I don't have anything to do. And obviously there are plays
- 31:39when you can see him trying to throw the ball away and it gets
- 31:42intercepted. And I said, Oh my God, is this
- 31:45how this night's really going to go?
- 31:47And that's how it went. Any time that you cannot throw
- 31:54the ball down the field, you're going to be in trouble.
- 31:58And as I said on my my Facebook live, you know, if Terry
- 32:05Mclaurin is the only guy that we can throw the ball down the
- 32:09field to and he's not there, we're going to be in trouble
- 32:12every week. And I got to tell I'm kind of
- 32:14upset they didn't put chosen in. Chosen to me was a was a was a
- 32:19guy who showed me something in against Dallas.
- 32:22I'll be we didn't win, obviously, but he showed me
- 32:24something. We tried to throw the ball down
- 32:26the field with him. You just I said, even if
- 32:30nobody's open, you got to throw the ball down the field and it
- 32:33didn't happen. And as soon as I'm they had
- 32:37pressure on this dude, like it wasn't anything nice.
- 32:41And then I said to myself, all right, well, why are they
- 32:44getting this pressure on him? Are there defensive players that
- 32:47good? Are are offensive players that
- 32:50bad? You know, because everybody
- 32:52wants to talk about what happened last year.
- 32:54And we've come to the conclusion or the deduction, if you will,
- 32:57that five masked a lot of stuff. He he masked a lot of
- 33:05inefficiencies, if you will, that we had just like another
- 33:10quarterback did. We're not going to talk about
- 33:14that. But we're starting to see now
- 33:16that maybe our guys need to be bigger, maybe our guys need to
- 33:21be stronger, maybe our guys need to.
- 33:24I don't know. And I've never played the
- 33:26position. So I don't even want to try to
- 33:28have one of those guys come back and to me and say, man, you
- 33:30ain't played, so you don't know what you're talking about.
- 33:31So I don't. But.
- 33:33But you've watched enough football.
- 33:34Right. And you've been?
- 33:36To enough games. Yeah.
- 33:37And, and and that's what it looks like.
- 33:39It looks like our guys aren't strong enough to hold the blocks
- 33:44to to keep the blocks. Maybe the agility, maybe not it
- 33:51not there that that's what it looks like and maybe it's
- 33:54technique. There's there's so much that
- 33:56goes into it that yes, I've watched a lot of football, but
- 33:59unless you've played it to no proper hand placement and all
- 34:02that type of stuff. One thing that we do know is
- 34:03this. If you're holding, that means
- 34:05you didn't move your feet. My coach always did tell me that
- 34:08if you're holding, that means you're not moving your feet and
- 34:11you're out of position. So that's all I can say with
- 34:15that man. And so and the penalties show
- 34:18you. I mean, for me, it, it felt like
- 34:21Jayden saw early on people weren't getting open.
- 34:24The only person I could get open was ertz on a consistent basis,
- 34:27nobody else could, right? And it just felt like he was
- 34:31trying to do too much. And the only way we were going
- 34:34to win this game or come even close was if Jayden scrambled
- 34:38and did what he did. And this was actually DQ being
- 34:40asked about it. Dan, you, you're down.
- 34:43Terry, you get go down. Luke very early first play.
- 34:46How much? Burden does Jayden then kind of
- 34:49put on himself because he is such a playmaker, he's down
- 34:51weapons to create stuff because he talked and ran quite a bit
- 34:55tonight. Does he kind of have that
- 34:57mentality that he talked to whom to Jayden that like does he
- 35:01takes take it upon himself to do stuff because he's you know,
- 35:05he's down weapons? Yeah, understood.
- 35:06I think that's his nature. Like he wants to, you know, be
- 35:11aggressive and make plays to go. But he's got confidence in the
- 35:13other players. I do know that.
- 35:14So it's not like, OK, I have to do more.
- 35:17I have to, you know, do things that are outside of of playing
- 35:23in that way. We also have to have everybody,
- 35:29you know, like injuries and those things happen and you hate
- 35:31it. You know, I'm talking about for
- 35:32Luke, but I don't I didn't sense that for him, you know, to say,
- 35:37OK, now I have to do more into that spot.
- 35:39But yeah, it's it's honestly, I didn't feel that from him.
- 35:44I. Was going to say, you can say
- 35:48that all day, but we're seeing something different.
- 35:51Yeah, we're, we're we're feeling something different.
- 35:54I've never been a head coach, so.
- 35:56But I can't say. It feels as though he's got a
- 36:00nobody. If no one's open, he can't take
- 36:02a knee. So what's the next best thing he
- 36:05has to do? He's running for his life out
- 36:07there. So if if I'm going to run for
- 36:09my, I'm not going to just say hot potato, you take it.
- 36:14Damn, I got to turn off field and get some, some yards or, or
- 36:17make something happen. So he's running for his life.
- 36:20And maybe you don't feel that, but if the play breaks down and
- 36:24let's face it, ladies and gentlemen, like you said, Ted,
- 36:27we've watched enough football. If the play breaks down, the
- 36:29next thing you that the quarterback has to do is
- 36:32scramble, drill or, and you realize, OK, wait a minute, I, I
- 36:37can't scramble. I I got to get the three yards,
- 36:39whatever have you and slide or whatever, get out of bounds or
- 36:42whatever the next steps of action may be.
- 36:46So Nikki Zavala put a tweet out. Sam Darnold was pressured on
- 36:50only three of his 24 drop backs against Washington for a career
- 36:54low. Jaden Daniels was pressured on
- 36:5717 of his 34 drop backs for a career high pressure rate of
- 37:0150%, right? He's getting pressured half the
- 37:05time he's back there and he's going to have to throw the ball
- 37:07because we're down by so much. So they get a chance to pin
- 37:09their ears back. So of course the young man was
- 37:12trying to do more because. And this is no knock on the
- 37:15receivers, right? This is a knock on GM, right?
- 37:19And this is me saying it, right? You've got Debo, you got Jalen
- 37:22Len, you got trailing Burks, right?
- 37:24These are the receivers that he is throwing to out there, right?
- 37:28I'm sorry. I mean happy trailing Burks is
- 37:30here, but at no point in time really were these guys double
- 37:35covered or you had to worry about it.
- 37:36So they can send an extra guy, at least one extra guy if not 2
- 37:41to get to Jayden, pressure him. So I'm not surprised and it was
- 37:44just frustrating to see. Personally, I was fine and I am
- 37:49still fine with the fact that Coach had Jayden in there when
- 37:53it happened and the reason being they took a bunch of their
- 37:58starters out. The Seahawks were up by so much.
- 38:01It was their second string defense to a degree that we were
- 38:03going up against, right? And Jaden has been hurt so much
- 38:08and has missed so much time. I felt that he needed the reps,
- 38:11right. I felt like, OK, let's let this
- 38:14guy go out there. This is kind of, I don't want to
- 38:17say pre season, but he's getting out there and he's getting a
- 38:20chance to run the offense. The Seahawks are obviously
- 38:23playing a different defense than the one they're playing earlier.
- 38:26What I didn't account for was Jayden being Jayden, Jayden
- 38:32trying to run and do some things outside of the actual play
- 38:36itself. I mean, coach talked about it.
- 38:38This is actually him saying what was supposed to happen during
- 38:41that play. I know many of you have been
- 38:43asking about the thought process of Jayden being in the game in
- 38:48that situation. I get that.
- 38:50I've been thinking about honestly non-stop too.
- 38:52And you know, for me the answer is, man, I missed it.
- 38:55But I would, you know, I'll fill you in on my thought process.
- 38:59At the start of the fourth quarter, I guess it was probably
- 39:01like 12 1/2 minutes left in the game and that was going to be
- 39:04the last drive for a couple of guys, Jaden and Zach and Debo
- 39:08and Lt. And so we're going to have any
- 39:11read run plays and meaning no carries, you know, for the
- 39:14quarterback on a run. And honestly, man, that's where
- 39:17I missed it. Of course he could scramble.
- 39:19It's Jaden. It's what he's special at.
- 39:21And that is 100%. That's on me.
- 39:25So they could tell him all they want, don't run, don't do this,
- 39:29don't do that. But it's just, that's naturally
- 39:33what makes him great. That's naturally what he does.
- 39:35And what happened to him was just, it was a fluke, right?
- 39:38He's running towards you in that end zone.
- 39:41Like what were you thinking at that point in time?
- 39:45As I said, Ted, I was into the game and the thought that that
- 39:52even though the clock was at 7 minutes, 8 minutes, whatever it
- 39:55was there was just it's just, it was a small inkling of me saying
- 40:00I wonder why he's still in there.
- 40:01But I didn't. I didn't it it, it just was a
- 40:06thought. It wasn't like I said, what the
- 40:10hell is he still doing in that type of thing?
- 40:11It was just. Just interesting that he was
- 40:13there and and he was making plays and it goes back to his
- 40:19first game that they tried to bubble wrap him against the the
- 40:23I was in Miami. I think it was the first.
- 40:25Preseason game. Yeah, they, yeah, they, they
- 40:28bubble wrap, they tried to bubble wrap him, but what did he
- 40:30do? And then he looked back and and
- 40:32he, they smiled and and after they pulled him.
- 40:34But I'll be that's he's a competitor.
- 40:38And one thing that I know is if the coach doesn't take you out,
- 40:45you trying to to tap it to tap out and nothing's wrong with
- 40:48you, you're going to be ridicule.
- 40:50You know, because we saw what happened with the the cat from
- 40:54from the Colts. I don't even think he I don't
- 40:56even think he's on on the team anymore.
- 40:58Maybe he is he's but he's like third string backup or
- 41:00something. So Jay didn't want to do that.
- 41:05You know, he he wanted to stay in there and we understand that
- 41:10he's a competitor. He really is.
- 41:12And he wanted to make something happen.
- 41:14And obviously as the coach said, it was a no run scheme for him.
- 41:20But the play broke down and he's just doing what he's doing.
- 41:23He's scooting. He's scooting and booting as
- 41:25they call it and trying to go down and rolling it.
- 41:30We know what happened and and so the rest is history.
- 41:33So I went back and watched the play.
- 41:35I didn't. I didn't want to look on social
- 41:37media and people were sharing the clip and the injury and
- 41:40everything else. I'm in the stands and I'm
- 41:42actually hearing it on, you know, the radio feed.
- 41:46And Logan Paulson made like this noise.
- 41:50And I think he might have said, oh, my God, at that point.
- 41:52And all I could see was Jaden going down and immediately guys
- 41:58in our team taking a knee and other guys that were away from
- 42:02the play taking a knee. Some thinking what just
- 42:05happened, right? And I guess people started
- 42:09pausing it on their DVRS and putting it on social media.
- 42:14And at this point I still haven't even seen it.
- 42:16I don't want to see it. All I heard was his elbow was
- 42:19backwards. And next thing I know they're
- 42:24bringing out a cart. So the carts coming from the
- 42:26tunnel that's on my side of the field, it's like a cart for an
- 42:30elbow. Seems kind of weird for a cart
- 42:32for an elbow, but I'm just the entire crowd just gas and just
- 42:38like, you've got to be kidding me.
- 42:40The guy behind me is yelling and screaming, you never should have
- 42:43had him in there. And it's I, I get it.
- 42:45And those fans that disagree with me and say he should have
- 42:48been in there, I get it. David Aldridge actually had a
- 42:51tweet out. Let me see if I can find it real
- 42:53quick. I mean, DA said something that
- 42:57from his perspective, and I understand why people think
- 42:59this, here you go. DA said there was no reason for
- 43:02Jaden Daniels to still be on the field and playing Sunday night
- 43:04after the Seahawks had dominated the Commanders for three plus
- 43:07quarters and letting him go back out there led to catastrophe.
- 43:11He should have been on the sidelines with a clipboard in
- 43:13his hand and a headset on his head watching Marcus Mariota
- 43:16finish up a bad night at the office for the home team like
- 43:19teams that are getting mauled do all the time.
- 43:22That he wasn't fails at the feet of the head coach.
- 43:25Dan Quinn is a good man and a good coach, but he made the
- 43:27wrong decision allowing Daniels to continue.
- 43:30And the play that DQ called or that Kingsbury called, this is
- 43:34actually DQ saying what was supposed to happen on that play.
- 43:37Yeah, we have a replays on it and the one that he was on
- 43:40injured is, you know, usually a runner or a throw to the flat.
- 43:42It's not a scramble. So it wasn't a designed read or
- 43:46play, you know, into that spot. If we run it, you know, 50
- 43:49times, it's either hand off or a throw, you know, I'd say 50
- 43:53times. So it's yeah.
- 43:56It's, it's, it's a bummer, man, in the big way.
- 44:03So that 51st time, it just, it didn't go like it was supposed
- 44:07to. But it's also to me that's the
- 44:10young man, the competitor in him, if he is out there, he is
- 44:14giving it 110% no matter what. And that's just what led to
- 44:18this. And it's just, it's such a
- 44:21bummer because I, I feel so bad for that young man because this
- 44:26is his third game that he's playing out there and he's been
- 44:29injured 3 times in a row. Yeah, sad.
- 44:37It it really is, and from an injury perspective this is DQ
- 44:40talking about it. Man, I thought the injuries were
- 44:44bad prior. I didn't think they could get
- 44:47much worse. Boy was I wrong.
- 44:50And get started. I'll also give you some other
- 44:52injury news. Confirm Jayden dislocated his
- 44:56left elbow. No timetable on that right now.
- 44:59Still gathering the the information.
- 45:03Marshawn had an MRI today and confirmed an ACL injury for him.
- 45:08So that will knock him out for the season.
- 45:10And Luke fractured his collarbone.
- 45:12Still working through the timetable for that, but that'll
- 45:15definitely knock him out for a while.
- 45:17So tough night on the injury front.
- 45:20All three of these guys are absolutely elite competitors and
- 45:23they mean a ton to our team for their play style and what they
- 45:27represent so. So a lot of more done.
- 45:32And look, I know people have been busting his butt and
- 45:35sometimes deservedly so, right? But he had a heck of a game
- 45:38against the Chiefs. But he's done for the year and
- 45:40he's he's done the burgundy and gold, right?
- 45:43He's this is a contractor for him.
- 45:45They're not bringing it back next year, right?
- 45:47To see young Luke go down. I mean, that young man was
- 45:51showing flashes of what he could be down the road and it's just,
- 45:56it's a shame to see that happen to him.
- 45:58Haven't gotten to know his dad and his mom and, you know, the
- 46:02family. I just, I feel for him.
- 46:04And, you know, now the Jane's gone, I don't know what's going
- 46:07to happen. I don't know when he's coming
- 46:09back. All I do know is when he does
- 46:13get a chance to come back, people were debating should he
- 46:17be done for the season, right? And I want to get your thoughts
- 46:21on that first. It depends.
- 46:25And what I mean by this is this. If by chance we miraculously
- 46:31turn things around and wind up in some type of playoff hunt,
- 46:38and that's the only time I'll use that word.
- 46:40If by chance we end up in that type of hunt and he's good to
- 46:44go, he is the best player in that position to get us to to
- 46:51move forward, if you will, to advance.
- 46:54So I would say yes. If we just continued wet the bed
- 47:01and with there's nothing to play for, no I say no.
- 47:07If we're in the hunt, obviously, and he is 100% healthy, then
- 47:11yeah, we all want to matter. For me, if we're out of the hunt
- 47:16and he is 100% healthy, I still want his ass in there.
- 47:20Right. He needs experience.
- 47:22The young man didn't have any. Are you saying a?
- 47:26Are you saying a pitch count? No, I'm not saying a pitch
- 47:29count. I just if he is healthy, if he
- 47:31is 100% good to go, let's just say it's four weeks from now,
- 47:33five weeks from now and he's healed and he gets a clean bill
- 47:37of health from the doctors, right?
- 47:39And I don't know what our record is, but let's just say it's
- 47:42worst case scenario. Five weeks from now what?
- 47:44We are three and six. So 5 weeks from now we're 3 and
- 47:4911, right? Playoffs are out.
- 47:50The question. I still want to see Jayden on
- 47:53that field because I think that young man needs reps.
- 47:57I think he needs to see other defenses game planning for him
- 48:03and go up against it. Mental reps are completely
- 48:06different from actually going up against another opponent.
- 48:09We've talked about it countless of times.
- 48:11When you're going up against your brother in practice, you
- 48:13don't go 100%. Best believe when you're going
- 48:16up against other professionals, other grown men wearing a
- 48:19different colored jersey, they're going to go up against
- 48:21you 100% and I think. You don't think you don't think
- 48:25he's seen enough football now if the if the football season I I
- 48:30want to agree to disagree. If the football season was was
- 48:34at the end of the football season is in OK, January, like
- 48:38you said, which it is, or December, January it is.
- 48:41And we play and we played hypothetically, the new season
- 48:44started in April. I would agree with you.
- 48:47The new season starts nine months later.
- 48:51There's no what you retained. He's played enough football to
- 48:56have retained exactly what you're saying.
- 48:58And one thing that you don't want to do is and and and we'll
- 49:03put it out there. Something worse happens to him
- 49:07when you know that you have a hypothetically inept line, you
- 49:12know that you don't have your receivers there.
- 49:14I, I hear what you're saying as far as getting the reps, I got
- 49:18you. But I believe that young man has
- 49:20played enough football to have the mental acuity to be able to
- 49:24say, I know what to do in these situations.
- 49:28And if you put him out there and he gets hurt something worse and
- 49:32now you're prolonging what you would have started from the new
- 49:37season. I hear you and trust them.
- 49:40I I get that. But from my standpoint, he
- 49:44played 17 games last year, right?
- 49:47This is his sophomore season. He has played six, right?
- 49:50He has gotten hurt. He has not performed well in
- 49:53these games, right? He's played football since he
- 49:56was a little kid, but he has not played NFL professional football
- 50:00for that long, right? Put it on.
- 50:03The VR headset and going up against that and putting it on
- 50:063X speed is not the same thing. He is struggling in this offense
- 50:11with this offense. The offensive line has not had a
- 50:14ton of injuries. The offensive line is still
- 50:17going to be the offensive line he's going to have later on.
- 50:20Now if Laramie Tunsils out and Be Honest is out and Connerly is
- 50:26out, then OK, that's a different story.
- 50:28But if our offensive line is healthy, I want Jayden out there
- 50:32to play and actually get some game experience, right?
- 50:36We talked about this on the last show.
- 50:37You have fans wanting him to just go on season ending IR with
- 50:41a hamstring, right? And I just, I completely
- 50:44disagree with that because there's way too much football
- 50:45left in the season at that point.
- 50:47But being realistic, barring a miracle, I don't see Marcus
- 50:51Mariota and this defense getting us into the postseason.
- 50:55We don't know what's going to happen with any of the other
- 50:56teams in the league. But just based on right now, I
- 50:59think it's less than a 4% chance or 8% chance we make it end.
- 51:02But for experience sake, we know that he doesn't play in
- 51:07preseason, right? He just pass experience.
- 51:09He didn't play in preseason. You only get so much work in
- 51:12training camp going up against your own players.
- 51:15I just want to see some more out the young man.
- 51:17I want him to get some more reps and some more experience.
- 51:19And I think he should be out there if he is 100% healthy and
- 51:23if the offensive line protecting him is also healthy, right?
- 51:28I want him to build a relationship with Jalen Wayne.
- 51:31I want him to build a relationship with some of these
- 51:33other guys that he's going to have to throw the ball to
- 51:35because it's obvious there was a lack of chemistry going into the
- 51:40season because they didn't have a ton of chemistry during the
- 51:43offseason. And what I'm going to say to
- 51:46that is I hear what you're saying as far as getting
- 51:50chemistry with these guys, but realistically, Ted, we don't
- 51:54know those guys are going to be here next year.
- 51:56Well, and I don't want to be here and I don't, I don't I, I
- 52:00would like to think so. He's under contract.
- 52:02He's he's not going anywhere. Right.
- 52:04But OK, he may be under contract but so is B Rob and B Rob got
- 52:10shipped. So he got shipped because it was
- 52:12a contract year and they weren't going to pay him next year.
- 52:14There's. I hear you.
- 52:16I hear, I hear what you're saying.
- 52:17But my point is this, there's always going to be a new guy
- 52:22coming in to prove himself. And we don't know who
- 52:26realistically is going to be here.
- 52:27We don't. There could be a camp body that
- 52:29shows up that that just replaces Lane.
- 52:32Lane showed, Lane showed that he had promised and so they they
- 52:36brought him up and here he is. We don't know what these guys
- 52:41are going to bring on board in the offseason.
- 52:44And I say it's, it's one thing. I understand what you're saying.
- 52:48He you need to get those reps, but if you're not getting the
- 52:51same reps from we don't believe that ertz is going to be here
- 52:53next year. Oh.
- 52:54No Ertz is done after this year, right?
- 52:55I just, I don't know that for a fact, but being realistic, he's
- 52:58signing the. That's how we feel, right?
- 53:01You know I. I see, I see, I see.
- 53:03Based upon what's happening now, I see a total revamp of a lot of
- 53:08our hometown names that we know because I'm and I and guys don't
- 53:16kill me for this, but they're not getting it done.
- 53:18And you know as well as I do that if you don't get it done,
- 53:22you don't play. And that's just how it is, man.
- 53:26I love all those guys. But if you're not getting it
- 53:28done, they're going to. Everybody right now has that pen
- 53:31and pad and saying, oh, not good, not good.
- 53:36We who else to who else is out there that we can possibly draft
- 53:41or or or do whatever have you bring them in to to maybe
- 53:44replace. Nobody's job is secure right
- 53:46now, Ted. That's the only thing I want to
- 53:47say. Nobody, I don't believe
- 53:49anybody's job is secure and based upon what has happened,
- 53:56that just isn't. It's a performance league and if
- 53:59and if you if you aren't performing to that standard or
- 54:02that level, they're going to be looking for somebody else to
- 54:06replace you who can do better. I agree with you.
- 54:08They're definitely, let's, let's be realistic, let's take a step
- 54:12back. This is year 1.5 in the rebuild,
- 54:17right? We were all served the bill of
- 54:20goods last year because we made the NFC Championship game.
- 54:23We were 60 minutes away from the Super Bowl, right?
- 54:25So we thought that we were ahead of schedule.
- 54:28In actuality, I don't know if we were ahead of schedule, right?
- 54:32The roster itself, there's just been so many injuries, right?
- 54:38We were ahead of our, we were ahead of ourselves because we
- 54:40were playing opponents that weren't that good.
- 54:43But now, now you put us up against opponents who are
- 54:46playoff caliber teams and now you start to see your
- 54:50ineptitudes or your weaknesses, if you will.
- 54:52So now here it is. They say we got to get better.
- 54:56We got to bring in, as I said, bigger, stronger, faster.
- 54:59And what we have right now, some of the guys they that they're
- 55:03not cutting the mustard, I guess a, a, a, a smaller team or, or a
- 55:08team that is not as good. Oh, we shine.
- 55:14But the team that's really good we're having problems with.
- 55:17And as I said, the bean counters or the analytical guys are
- 55:21saying, what do we got to do to bring somebody in who can stop
- 55:26this? Because what they, what
- 55:27everybody say, we're going to bring in all these people
- 55:30because we got torched by the run.
- 55:31Those guys can't stop the run. And what do we do?
- 55:33We brought in bigger, stronger guys, but ultimately we're still
- 55:37having the issue of stopping the run.
- 55:38We're doing better, but it's it's harder.
- 55:41I don't know. We're not doing better
- 55:43statistically against the run. But part of that is right.
- 55:46Dietrich Wise missed seven games, right?
- 55:49Doris Armstrong missed two games.
- 55:51Javante Jean Baptiste missed five games, right?
- 55:54It just injuries are part of football.
- 55:56We have actually had 17 players have suffered injuries that have
- 56:00or will cost them serious time. 13 of these guys were starters,
- 56:04right? So people have missed a total of
- 56:0659 games and counting, 59 games and counting, right?
- 56:11And that's just, that's partly because the depth that we have
- 56:15on this team isn't what the depth you would have on another
- 56:19team. The Lions last year, they were
- 56:22banged up, they still managed to kick ass.
- 56:24The 49ers, they were banged up, they still managed to kick ass
- 56:28because they had depth. The problem is we don't have
- 56:31depth. Peters overhauled the roster.
- 56:342/3 of the roster was brand new last year.
- 56:37So now we've got a bunch of guys that are new or old.
- 56:41Your rentals, right? Bobby Wagner probably done after
- 56:44this year, should be done after this year maybe, right?
- 56:47And you've got draft picks that have not panned out yet, right?
- 56:52You're seeing flashes from a Luke McCaffrey, but you're not
- 56:54seeing anything from a Ben Senate, right?
- 56:57And they're just other guys. Brandon Coleman, we talked about
- 56:59it was a starter last year, this year sitting on the bench riding
- 57:03a pond, right? So I think right now there's
- 57:07some of that just shine on Adam Peters.
- 57:10It's starting to wear off a little bit because of the way
- 57:13he's constructed this roster. And what I'm saying, going back
- 57:16to the whole Jaden thing, I, I personally, he is the future.
- 57:21He is the franchise. And I get people wanting to put
- 57:23him in bubble wrap and stick him in a corner and not risk him
- 57:27getting hurt like Cosmi did at the end of last season.
- 57:30So we miss him for the part of the season and we miss him for
- 57:32the offseason program at training camp.
- 57:34Heaven forbid that happens, but in my mind, you cannot play
- 57:38football scared. You cannot be a scared fan
- 57:42because you're worried that this guy is Mr. Glass and is going to
- 57:45break, right? You just have to go out there.
- 57:48If the doctors and the training staff give him 100% clean bill
- 57:52of health, you have to just go out there and think that this
- 57:57young man is going to do what he needs to do to protect himself
- 58:00and take care of himself. And when he came back from that
- 58:02first injury this year, what we saw him do was protect himself
- 58:06and take care of himself. We saw him take knees.
- 58:08We saw him slide and get down and not take those stupid hits.
- 58:12That hamstring injury he suffered was just a fluke thing
- 58:15that happened. And this elbow injury, agreed
- 58:18was such a fluke thing that happened because he's
- 58:20scrambling. So and I there's points and
- 58:24arguments for both sides. Should he play?
- 58:26Should he not play? If he gets a chance to come
- 58:28back, I don't want to see him play because I want to root him
- 58:32as a fan. I just think he needs experience
- 58:35and I don't think he's going to get it from the bench.
- 58:38I just hope that it's truly not that long.
- 58:42Good news is it's not broken, right?
- 58:45They did some X-rays, it's good. Other good news is it's his left
- 58:50arm. He doesn't throw the.
- 58:52Throwing arm, Yeah. So other than taking a snap or
- 58:56catching a snap at that point, he's not really using that arm a
- 58:59ton. So I mean, I'd want to say it's
- 59:02maybe the best ligament injure, best limb injury we could have
- 59:07had with the guy. So I'm just praying that it's a
- 59:11speedy recovery. Don't know how bad or how long
- 59:14it's going to be. DQ said it's going to be a
- 59:17couple of weeks. I, I doubt he goes to Spain,
- 59:21right? I, I doubt he makes that trip
- 59:23out there. I'm not too sure.
- 59:25Well, maybe because it's his arm it's OK and they'll let him fly
- 59:29out with the team. What do you think?
- 59:32I expect to see him in Spain. I mean, how often does a young
- 59:36man get to go to Spain and be a part of the team?
- 59:39This is once again, this is a still a, a, a dream for a lot of
- 59:44the players. So I expect him to, I would not
- 59:47expect, I would hope that he would.
- 59:50But if he doesn't, I understand. I, I totally understand.
- 59:54But I think that he'd want to be amongst his brothers in Spain, a
- 59:57new country, a new place, the the the same things that the
- 1:00:00fans are experiencing. I see that the players want to
- 1:00:03take that in as well. Oh definitely.
- 1:00:05I just, it kills me, man. I I wanted to go to Arrowhead to
- 1:00:09watch Mahomes and Jaden on Monday night and want to go to
- 1:00:12Spain to watch Jaden play over there.
- 1:00:15And now odds are we know he didn't do Arrowhead.
- 1:00:19Odds are he's not playing in this game.
- 1:00:21And talking about the Lions, coach said he doesn't see Terry
- 1:00:26playing this weekend either, right?
- 1:00:28And we'll talk about the Lions later on this week.
- 1:00:30It's just it's becoming unbelievably frustrating.
- 1:00:35And there no one's even really talking about how bad the
- 1:00:39defense was. All everyone cares right now is,
- 1:00:41you know, Jayden obviously going down and rightfully so.
- 1:00:45Good news is we'll be able to see Joe Witt outside of his
- 1:00:49little coaching box upstairs and he's going to be downstairs on
- 1:00:52the field because that should make everything better.
- 1:00:56I would almost think that you see better higher with that
- 1:00:59vantage point then on the field, maybe you can hear better
- 1:01:03feedback from the players. I don't know.
- 1:01:06I like to hey, if it works, bravo Joe, get come on down.
- 1:01:12But if it doesn't, by chance, what's going to be the next
- 1:01:17course of action? And I heard a lot of people
- 1:01:20saying that somebody needs to be fired.
- 1:01:21And I never want to see anybody fired.
- 1:01:25But at the same time, I know on my job, if I'm not cutting the
- 1:01:28mustard, they're going to find a way for me to slowly see the
- 1:01:32exit, see the door. So I'm just hoping that we can
- 1:01:37figure it out. And that's as a fan.
- 1:01:39That's all we can do. They actually asked DQ if they
- 1:01:42were going to make any coaching changes.
- 1:01:43Defensive struggles have continued for a while.
- 1:01:46You said you'll look at everything.
- 1:01:48Are are you at the point now where you're considering any
- 1:01:51changes with your defensive staff at all?
- 1:01:54No, I was, yeah, yeah. The three TDs that that just
- 1:01:58burned me up on. The second TD was like a third
- 1:02:01and eight. We doubled Smith and Jigba.
- 1:02:05We got beaten man to man by a different player.
- 1:02:08The third TD was the first play after a fumble on a kickoff
- 1:02:12return. I believe it was right around
- 1:02:132526 yard line. You know, it was man to man on a
- 1:02:17seam route. So those weren't confusing
- 1:02:19calls. And the toughest of all was a
- 1:02:21cover 3, The 4th TD, the quarterback got, you know,
- 1:02:24caught up on a run, fake ball over top.
- 1:02:27We also missed a tackle on that play.
- 1:02:29So the executed man, John, it's, it's players, it's coaches, it's
- 1:02:32all of us, man. And we're capable of playing
- 1:02:34these calls and playing them better.
- 1:02:36And I'm certain of it. My belief in the players is high
- 1:02:39and the staff is high. We got to get this job done,
- 1:02:41man. It's, it was extremely
- 1:02:45frustrating. And, you know, we're looking at
- 1:02:48everything, man, to make sure like whatever we need to do to,
- 1:02:51to play our best, you know, we're going to find a way to do
- 1:02:54that. So I guess the change is just
- 1:03:00bringing Joe down on the field. And I I agree with you.
- 1:03:02You get a better view upstairs. I I used to have my original
- 1:03:05seats were 50 yard line in the 400 section of the stadium,
- 1:03:09right? And I could see the best up
- 1:03:11there. But coach said it'll be easier
- 1:03:15for Joe to institute changes from the field when he's down
- 1:03:19there with the players, right? And it it feels to me like he's
- 1:03:23rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic, right?
- 1:03:26That ship is sinking. It's like, like you said, what
- 1:03:28else can they possibly do to fix his defense?
- 1:03:31I don't know because the players aren't changing.
- 1:03:34I think losing Will Harris at the beginning of this season
- 1:03:37when he went down is something that people aren't talking about
- 1:03:40enough because he was the captain back there directing the
- 1:03:44secondary where to go. Now the guys just look lost.
- 1:03:47They really do. And this was them simplifying
- 1:03:50the defense this week. It don't get much more simple
- 1:03:53than this. And Sam Darnold picked him off,
- 1:03:55just picked him apart like a hot knife through butter.
- 1:03:57Man, it was just sad. Well, we got Detroit coming into
- 1:04:03town. They're pissed off that they
- 1:04:05lost golf is pissed off that we took them out of the playoff
- 1:04:09contentions last year. So they got something to play
- 1:04:12for. They're going to be upset they
- 1:04:14got a they got a chip on their shoulder from last year to this
- 1:04:16year to their them losing last week.
- 1:04:20So be be prepared people. That's all I'll say you, you, if
- 1:04:24you are a true fan, you better buckle up because it doesn't get
- 1:04:28any easier from here. And we've said that.
- 1:04:30And so hence four games we each week, if we said we're going
- 1:04:35through the gauntlet. So this is another game and that
- 1:04:38gauntlet. So you better bring your band
- 1:04:43aids because this is going to be a something that's going to be
- 1:04:46cut up possibly unless they they, they do some changes and,
- 1:04:53and change player personnel. Just be prepared that that is
- 1:04:56it's, it's going to be a hard fight.
- 1:04:59Oh, definitely is. I mean, it's, I hate to say it's
- 1:05:02gotten to the point of the season where I'm looking forward
- 1:05:05to the tailgate at this point more than the actual game
- 1:05:08itself. And for the longest time that's
- 1:05:11all we had right as fans. And that's been my argument with
- 1:05:14ownership about the new stadium. Tailgating is all that we had
- 1:05:18for 20 plus years to actually care about because the product
- 1:05:20on the field and the product in the stadium was so pissed poor.
- 1:05:24Well, now the product in the stadium is not pissed poor.
- 1:05:27The product on the field, hate to say it, it is right now.
- 1:05:31So tailgating is what we're all looking forward to and I I can't
- 1:05:33wait to get out there this weekend to see you guys and
- 1:05:36spend some time with the fans out there and have another fun
- 1:05:38tailgate. We'll talk about that later on
- 1:05:40this week. But right now, man, I think each
- 1:05:43and every one of those players on that team needs to look in a
- 1:05:46mirror and just think about the performance they put on that
- 1:05:51field on a night where we are honoring one of the greatest
- 1:05:57Washington players to ever wear burgundy and gold.
- 1:06:00And it was just, it was a sad sight, man.
- 1:06:03And I hope that they just take it to heart on how embarrassing
- 1:06:08that was to watch and how embarrassing it is for the fan
- 1:06:11base. And that's me saying that
- 1:06:12because I'm never leaving before that clock goes 000.
- 1:06:17But damn, I wanted to. So did I, so did I, but the
- 1:06:23captain does what goes down with the ship and I will not leave
- 1:06:28until it's, like you said, 000. So well, hey, man, on a brighter
- 1:06:35note, I could just see you in a couple more days to do this all
- 1:06:41over again and see the fans to do it all over again.
- 1:06:44And who knows, the outcome could be different.
- 1:06:49We're hoping that it is. I hear the music playing in the
- 1:06:52background let you know we're bringing another episode to a
- 1:06:56close. We thank you guys for riding
- 1:06:58with us. We really do remember you RIP it
- 1:07:04hard, but you don't RIP it at all.
- 1:07:07Rally Captain Tailgate Ted, we will see you guys in a few.
- 1:07:12Keep your heads up, folks.
