- 5:31with Pastor up Church. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself.
- 5:38Yes, my name is Answerny up Church, Pastor Answerny up Church. I've
- 5:43been doing ministry now my husband and our own church for about twenty years.
- 5:47I've been married to Bishop Ulys's up Church almost thirty five years and we have
- 5:51three children. One thing about me I do want you to know is that
- 5:56I write books. I'm just telling you a little bit about myself in part.
- 6:00And another thing about myself is I went to school and got my master's
- 6:03and substance abuse, which in return I began to do somewhat counseling dealing with
- 6:09that. But I also would open the door for me to be able to
- 6:13do spiritual guidance counselor counseling for those that may be suffering with different things.
- 6:17And bereavement is one thing that I have talked to them about. So just
- 6:23a little bit about myself and who I am. I love God. I
- 6:27do want to say that. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 6:31Apostle Arika T More. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
- 6:36Hey, hey, hey, family and friends. I'm excited to be with
- 6:40my family the Cruel Podcast one more time. I'm grateful to be here again
- 6:44as a guest. As she said, I'm Apostle of Praise God International Ministry.
- 6:50My husband was the visionary. We recently just lost him one hundred and
- 6:55twenty four days ago today together we were serial entrepreneurs. Is Tucking company my
- 7:02econ credit repair. I'm helping people build up their credit. I just started
- 7:08a new health and wellness business know near but with my uplines are up churches
- 7:13y yes, yes, yes yes. So like I said, I passed
- 7:16the full time. Also, I am the founder of ETM Coaching and Mentoring
- 7:21LLC. And again I'm just excited to be here with the crew, my
- 7:27family one more time. Thank you for having me, Amen and man,
- 7:30thank you for accepting. I'm so excited on tonight to have you, too,
- 7:36wonderful ladies with me on tonight. I'm deeply honored and humble. DayMen.
- 7:44Tonight, we're gonna talk a little bit about grief. As we know
- 7:50that apostle grief is fairly new. So if there's anything Amen that you know
- 8:00triggers are on tonight, Amen, you can just say that. But what
- 8:03we wanted to explain start with is explain one of the experiences you had with
- 8:13grief and what did you do to not get over it? But what did
- 8:20you do to deal with that experience because you never I lost my son over
- 8:26thirteen years ago, and you never get over it. You learn how to
- 8:31live through it. You give yourself permission to live, do it to be
- 8:37happy again. But can starting with past the up church, can you tell
- 8:46me one experience you had and how did you deal with the grief. Yes,
- 8:52one of my experiences is the passion of my granddaughter passed almost almost close
- 8:58to five years ago. We totally took care of her. She was disabled,
- 9:03she knew who we were. She was born with absence of the brain.
- 9:07The doctor said she wouldn't live to be three months old, and she
- 9:11ended up living to be almost nine. And so you know, during that
- 9:13time, at any date she could have passed, but the Lord allowed her
- 9:18to live day by day as we lay hands on and prayed with her.
- 9:22But there was a point of time when she passed and the grief was really
- 9:26heavy. But God had already prepared me before. But no matter what,
- 9:30you never truly get prepared. I mean, God did he prepared my heart
- 9:33to know it was gonna happen. But then when it happened, I had
- 9:37to face reality that it happened. And so for me, I went and
- 9:41got therapy. I went and got breathing therapy, and it was one of
- 9:46the best things I could do because I did learn it. I was going
- 9:50through the five stages of grief once she died. I would go through denial,
- 9:54I would go through anger, bargaining, I would go through depression and
- 9:58acceptance. I was going through all of that, but it didn't go in
- 10:03alignment. I was going through different parts. I would get angry a little
- 10:05bit, and then I would feel depressed and I would be in denial.
- 10:09And you know, but I had to go get help. And that was
- 10:13the greatest thing I could have done. Even being a counselor myself, I
- 10:18already knew that I needed help. I already knew that I was going to
- 10:20have to talk to somebody. Caregiving is not It's not an easy thing to
- 10:24do. And when you caregive, you fall in love. And you know
- 10:30with I fell in love with her. I mean, that was basically my
- 10:33life what I did. My husband took me off my job to take care
- 10:37of my granddaughter while my son was in college and the mom was in college,
- 10:39and I got very close to her. So death was very overwhelming.
- 10:46But I will say this, it was the Lord that helped me through.
- 10:48And also I went and got counseling. Hey, man, ain't man,
- 10:52because when you are in the ministry fell sometimes people feel like your title makes
- 11:05you beyond griefs that you don't that you know, you go to church and
- 11:09they slap a little oil on you and you're supposed to be okay because I
- 11:13know. One of the feelings I had of guilt was I was saying,
- 11:18I know he's in a better place, but I miss him and I want
- 11:22him here. It's don't love God? Why can't I deal with this?
- 11:30And I wore a smile, but underneath I was dying and siding. Sometimes
- 11:35I would scream out, you know, don't people have the spirit of discernment?
- 11:41Don't they know that I'm hurting insiding. I had to go and get
- 11:46help. I had to say it's okay not to be okay, because traditionally
- 11:52in the Black church, ay Man, they think if they just slap some
- 11:56oil on you, tell you to love Jesus, and it's gonna be all
- 12:01over. But once you realize they slapped the oil on you, they pray
- 12:05for you, but you're still feeling away and you have to be transparent parents,
- 12:11and not every pastor is equipped to deal with death and the feelings that
- 12:20go along with how you feeling. So they make you believe if they pray
- 12:24for you and you pray, you'll be all right because you know that they're
- 12:28in a better place. But we're a human. Even Jesus, when Lazarus
- 12:33died, he knew he was gonna raise him up, but he's still wet
- 12:39because he still had the human emotions that we have, and when we lose
- 12:43someone, we miss them. So, Pastor Arika, can you tell us
- 12:50how you're dealing with it right now? You're going through the stages right now?
- 12:56How are you how you dealing with it? Well, to be honest,
- 13:03it's no one but guy for right now. Two of my support systems
- 13:07is here is you, who I've known for twenty one years, and past
- 13:11Anternet, who just recently became my pastor. You know, y'all have been
- 13:16impartoning in me, checking in on me. And one of the things that
- 13:20Pastor Antwinet said to me two weeks ago, I need to go get some
- 13:24counseling. I was already in counseling, so I started with grief Share.
- 13:28Here's my book, here my book, here's the word. So I'm surrounded
- 13:31by people who was loving on me and giving me the word, and the
- 13:37only thing that passed the anternet is saying, don't allow anyone to tell you
- 13:41that it's a time, don't put a time. I'm framed on your grief.
- 13:45Go through the stages properly. So if I'm crying, if I failed
- 13:48some type of way, like they just took me away over the weekend,
- 13:52and I needed that because for the last four or five days, I've been
- 13:56sleeping and when I wake up, I'm not looking for my husband. So
- 14:01I'm grateful. I don't think I would be as okay as I am today
- 14:07if it wasn't for someone who's gone through it. And because you're both gone
- 14:11through it, you're not just spinning up things like you're not cruel. You're
- 14:16considering and you're mindful of my feelings that what I'm feeling is real, and
- 14:22you'll allow me to express those emotions. So if I don't feel like being
- 14:26bothered, I don't want to be bothered. I don't want to have to
- 14:28be the apostle, put on a front to make everyone else feel good when
- 14:33I'm hurting. And I'm not selfish. I understand that I have an assignment
- 14:39to do, but I'm grateful and I'm just glad that you know, if
- 14:43past answering that is here, you're here. Property is Alma because you ladies
- 14:48have been sewing into me and you're helping me through this, because if not,
- 14:54I'll probably be doing prison industry a place to tell you the truth?
- 14:58Amen? And amen? And how have Wasn't there some ways that you'll deal
- 15:07with your emotions because a lot of times everyone is around us leading to the
- 15:16funeral. But once they close the casket, that's when the phone call stop,
- 15:24the visit stops, the encouragement stops. Is like we close the cast
- 15:30it it's over. Now you go on and live and forget about it.
- 15:35But how can you forget about someone you carry for nine months and you love
- 15:43them. How can you forget your husband that was playing next to you?
- 15:46How do you forget your granddaughter? So how what have you done to help
- 15:52you deal with it? And what is the most helpful? What help you
- 15:58deal with it most? Well? I think for me, the biggest thing
- 16:02with me is I'm always mastering how to manage my emotions. That's something that
- 16:07I do and just being a counselor myself. I went back to some of
- 16:14the books and things that I read about bereavement and just empowering myself by reading
- 16:19up and learning what bereavement was, learning about how to deal with grief and
- 16:26how to deal with the pain of it. And one way I dealt with
- 16:30it is that I was very transparent with myself. I admitted that I was
- 16:33hurt. I admitted that I was in pain. I admitted I wasn't caught
- 16:38up in a title, nor I wouldn't sit around to prince of the point
- 16:41I want to take my life. But there was a depression on me,
- 16:45and I would admit that. But I taught to God and I and I
- 16:48talked to God and he helped me through it. But I took some of
- 16:52the things that the strategies that my therapist told me to take. I did
- 16:56a lot of self talk. I did a lot of reading, and I
- 16:59did a lot of walking. I started exercising, and I started doing things
- 17:03that made me happy. And I started focusing on getting some of her stuff
- 17:07out of the house. And we actually she died in our home, and
- 17:14I never I was so close to this little girl. It was just ever
- 17:17since she was born. And I ended up moving stuff out and eventually it
- 17:22got so good for us that I had to move. You know, if
- 17:26I probably was a little older, old or older, I probably would have
- 17:30been okay, maybe in my fifties then, but I was in my forties,
- 17:33early forties, and you know, between my early forties and mid forties,
- 17:37and it was very hard, and so I had to do things that
- 17:40helped me. I worked out. I ended up, you know, writing
- 17:45a book. I ended up sharing with other people. I created a support
- 17:51group for other people. I ended up working with the hospital. I was
- 17:53doing things. But God spoke to me and said, you're doing all of
- 17:57this, but are you really dealing with your feelings? Because I start doing
- 18:02stuff, but then the stuff started doing me. Yeah, And so God
- 18:07dealt with me and I had to really sit down and really process and say,
- 18:11God, what am I gonna do with this? How am I gonna
- 18:14deal with it? And I just begin to talk to God, and I
- 18:17began to read up on death and begin to understand death, because, to
- 18:19be honest with you, sometime it's Christians, that's something that we don't want
- 18:23to read about. That's something that we don't study about because if we're not
- 18:27careful, we think we got days after days after days. But the Bible
- 18:30said we should live and not die, of course, but we don't never
- 18:33know when that day will be. So I had to get with God and
- 18:37he got with me. I took the therapy. The lady gave me the
- 18:41information. I took it, I read it, I went to therapy,
- 18:44and I just focused on inward healing and doing things that I like to do,
- 18:48and that's what really helped me. And then my husband was beside me
- 18:52and my family, but they knew I was really close to her. But
- 18:56just having that support like Apostle has now, the support will help you through
- 19:02because when people, everybody will come and visit you once the death takes place,
- 19:06but after it's over, like prophetess, I'm gonna say where they're at.
- 19:10And I made my friends say. I told them, I said,
- 19:11now you're coming to my house now, and I promise you. I let
- 19:15them know don't forget me. You know. I was like that because everybody
- 19:19eating and doing all that, but I let them know I was gonna need
- 19:22them, and so I had friends that would check on me, you know,
- 19:26until I got to the point that I had to learn to deal with
- 19:30my own company pretty much. I hope I didn't talk too long. Hey
- 19:34man, Amen, Once you went through it, didn't you feel like now
- 19:44you could help people better because you before what you were a counselor, you
- 19:53had never gone through it, But now that you went through it personally,
- 19:59is it a difference way that you deal with people who are grieving? Yeah,
- 20:03yeah, I do. I tend to be a good listener for them,
- 20:07and I tend to understand that everybody don't bread the same, and I
- 20:11had to learn that. You know, some people cry, some people are
- 20:14angry, some people say nothing, some people hold their feelings in and so
- 20:18I had to deal with them according to where they were. I had to
- 20:21learn that and not put my idiosyncrasies, my ideology or what I thought on
- 20:26them, or my religious overtone that I had at one point. God delivered
- 20:30me from that that religious overtone, and you know, God to see you
- 20:34through it. But you know, they know that, but don't nobody want
- 20:38you just shoving it down their throat. They got to be able to deal
- 20:41with stuff the way they deal with it. I would share scriptures, of
- 20:45course, but I dealt with people where they are, because some people I
- 20:48dealt with didn't know God. So if they didn't know God, I had
- 20:52to deal with them according to where they were. Some people didn't believe that
- 20:55when they loved one died that they were going to heaven. You know,
- 20:57when you take a job as account, don't mean everybody gonna be saved,
- 21:02you know what I'm saying. So I had learned to deal with them where
- 21:04they were according to their beliefs. And even though I was a Christian counselor,
- 21:10I didn't reject them. You know. Uh, some of them just
- 21:14believe that when they loved one die that they was gonna pass, that they
- 21:18was just there was gonna be nothing else left, There was gonna be no
- 21:19heaven. And I didn't get into argue with them. I just let them,
- 21:25uh deal with that in the place of where they were at that time,
- 21:27because I wasn't gonna argue with somebody who's already going through you know,
- 21:32I didn't have to really accept the counsel them. But later on, as
- 21:34I talked to them, they know that there's a heaven now, but it
- 21:37was just a process. So the man ain't mine and I, like the
- 21:42sister excuse me, like Sister Little John said, you meet them where they're
- 21:47at, right, You meet them with the ad Apozzo more. Can you
- 21:55tell us how you are dealing with that? Now? I'm now at the
- 22:03plaint that I'm starting to grieve because when my husband died, everything and everyone
- 22:11attached to him went away with him. And so I'm in shock, so
- 22:17not even realizing that I'm here by my south. I'm not from North Carolina,
- 22:22this is not my home. I'm from New York. So I'm here
- 22:26by myself, you know, And I'm trying to cleave to the people that
- 22:33mattered to him, So I didn't get the chance to grieve. So when
- 22:40reality really begin to sink in afterwards, in the words of Steve Harvey,
- 22:45when the funk begin to hit the fan, I'm like, oh shoot.
- 22:48So now I'm at the point that I'm finally grieving and I'm finally accepting he's
- 22:56dead. He's not coming back here. He's dead, and now I have
- 23:02to go through each motion. And and I was in denial. I thought
- 23:06I was gonna lose my mind. I felt like I was suffocating and I
- 23:10couldn't I felt like George Floyd, I couldn't breathe. I was going crazy.
- 23:14And even though people are the few people that I allowed into my intimate
- 23:18circular. Like like you said past the anternet, I'm gonna need you afterwards.
- 23:22This is cute, this is fun, okay, all right, but
- 23:26I'm gonna need you when everyone else go home, right And I had to
- 23:30come back because my husband died in bed next to me after telling me that
- 23:36he loves me, after having a whole conversation hours later. So the tape
- 23:41is playing back and I'm like, oh shoot, So I'm now at the
- 23:45phase in my life that this is real and I'm in warfare because it's like
- 23:52every day I'm fighting just for a little peace, just for a little ear,
- 24:00because if not, I'm gonna get stuck. If that makes sense,
- 24:04I hope I answered your question. Yes, And it's the same thing I
- 24:10found that having my stroke and losing my son, I still went through the
- 24:18same stages of grief, and I find my soul like some days my sister
- 24:26my daughter calls me a cry baby, but some days find myself crying over
- 24:32what I lost, Like you accepted that right now, I'm in this temporary
- 24:37condition where I can't walk. But some days when you want to do something
- 24:41for your soul and you find that you're waiting on people to do it.
- 24:47You go through that same denial, same depression, crying like I understand that
- 24:53I'm going through a process. I understand that what God has promis for right
- 25:00now, at this moment, it hurts that I can't even take care of
- 25:10my own needs. So we're gonna go to a brief commercial and we'll be
- 25:15right back with my guests, Amen for the second half of the show.

- 25:30the magazine and allow your voice to be heard around the world. Aspiring Authors
- 25:34Magazine is an international magazine founded in May of twenty twenty by Queen Angela.
- 25:40Get featured. Amen, Amen, welcome back. I'm talking with Past the
- 25:48Internet, up Church and Apostle Team more and we've been talking about a man
- 25:56the grief process and how that when you go through other things, not just
- 26:03the loss of someone, but when you go through a divorce or the loss
- 26:11of a limb, that you go through those same stages of grief until you
- 26:18finally get to the acceptance part. But being transparent in both cases, losing
- 26:29a child and using the lift use of your lembs is a hard process to
- 26:36go through that when people tell you you're being so strong and that you're strong,
- 26:41at that moment, you don't feel strong. So what would you tell
- 26:48a client that is going through the process of grief right now? For me,
- 26:56I would I would tell to them, and you know, I would
- 27:02let them know that these are this is normal, that this stuff, what
- 27:04they're going through, is normal, that this is these feelings and their emotions
- 27:11is gonna this is what's gonna happen. And don't feel bad if they cried,
- 27:19don't feel upset if they get angry, don't feel upset if they feel
- 27:25like, I gotta go get therapy, I gotta get some help. I'm
- 27:29losing it, I'm losing myself. You know. I just would encourage them
- 27:34to get the help they need, but to allow themselves to grieve. That's
- 27:41the big part. I agreed even before my granddaughter died, because, like
- 27:45you said, she was already born with thirteen other diagnosis and I knew that
- 27:52at some one day she would die, but it was God that extended her
- 27:55life. So I'd already went through the grieving process before, so it was
- 27:59like once she died, I went through it again. And unbelievable when she
- 28:04died, it wasn't as bad because I knew that she was no longer suffering.
- 28:11But it's still her. Just like the other day when I went to
- 28:14Sanford and I passed by the memorial guards, but I didn't turn in there
- 28:19to go see her. She just be in my heart sometimes and every time
- 28:23I look at my grandchildren, she's always on my mind. I mean,
- 28:27I don't forget about her. It's just like, even though I know she's
- 28:32gone, she's still verbally is a part of who we are. And I
- 28:37would just encourage that person to live their life out and allow it to be.
- 28:42Let let things be and feel feel things, don't ignore those feelings.
- 28:48Deal with those feelings and grieve, cry. Let somebody know how they feel.
- 28:56Tell people what's gonna what they're gonna do for them, and what's best
- 29:00for them. And that's exactly what I would say. Hey man, what
- 29:03would you say going through it right now? What would you tell a grieving
- 29:11widow that just lost her husband. I would tell her to be true to
- 29:19whatever emotion you are feeling. Don't allow anyone to put you in the box.
- 29:25You want to screen, you want to cry, Heck, you want
- 29:26to curse whatever you want to do, as long as you don't break the
- 29:30law, go ahead and do it. Let me say this and be very
- 29:33clear everyone here on the Crew podcast, y'all met my husband. Y'all saw
- 29:37him kicking for me the last two the shows. Y'all watched him, right,
- 29:44So y'all came through. Y'all supported me too. So let me just
- 29:47shout out out and say thank you and listen here. I still have these
- 29:49thank you cards that I have. Not feel doubt yet, y'all pray for
- 29:52me. That's how much that grief is still on me. But I would
- 29:56say to the wife, don't let no one makes you feel And if that's
- 30:02your husband, that's your lover, that's your protector, that's your provider.
- 30:06However you feel in go ahead, write it down, y'all know a book
- 30:10is coming. I'm writing every day these I'm not counting down just to be
- 30:14counting down. Today's day one twenty four. Write it down. And even
- 30:18if you just write the date down and don't do nothing else, you can
- 30:21always come back to it later. But be true to you, don't allow
- 30:23anyone to put you in the box, and embrace the love. You can't
- 30:29do this by yourself. Okay, we're gonna give you two minutes. I'm
- 30:32gonna give you today, but tomorrow I'm breaking that door down. I don't
- 30:36care if you get mad, I don't care if you cuss me out,
- 30:37but I'm coming in because you cannot do this by yourself. So embrace the
- 30:41love, embrace the support system, but most of all, embrace those emotions.
- 30:48And I wanted to say, if you didn't mind, propertis alma.
- 30:52I would also let them know about, especially those that know God and even
- 30:57something that don't. I would let them know about how God looks at grief
- 31:03and that he would bring them comfort. I would I would let them know
- 31:06that God can comfort them during his time, and He'll wipe their tears away,
- 31:10and and that God cares. And I would let them know that God
- 31:12would heal the broken hearted and bind up their wounds. I would give them
- 31:17the Word of God. I would let them know that you know, because
- 31:19the Word of God is strengths and and and and I would remind them of
- 31:23what the Word says, and how he loves Death is precious in the eyes
- 31:29of God, and and that person means the world to God, a man
- 31:34a man, and what I've done is I hold on to his memories and
- 31:45man, and I turned my pain into passion, and I started a scholarship
- 31:52in my son's name a man, And before I got sick, I gave
- 31:57away fifteen scholarships to African American males who are going to college. So that's
- 32:08how I started working on my pain by turning it into my passion. And
- 32:17with the stroke, I decided that once you've been at death's door and they
- 32:28didn't expect you to live, a man, you give yourself the permission to
- 32:34live the life that God has destined for you despite the obstacles that are in
- 32:42my way. I won't let any excuse stop me the things that God has
- 32:47put inside of me. I don't want to die with any of that stuff
- 32:52inside of me. So I'm burking out books and I'm working for my ministry,
- 32:58and I'm working on my organization to speak for other others that are in
- 33:05the nursing home system that are being abused. But because they don't have a
- 33:10voice, nobody cares for them, because they can't vote in the next election,
- 33:15amen, nobody is speaking out them. But I want to be the
- 33:21voice that cries out in the wilderness, that they still they still matter,
- 33:27they still count, they still have purpose a man, and that's what I'm
- 33:34turning this pain into my passion and living off the bittersweet memories of my son,
- 33:44never to forget him, because at each birthday, each anniversary of his
- 33:50death, I think about him. And some years I'm fine. Some years
- 33:55I cry, like the doctor just told me, we Lord, it's nothing
- 34:00we can do. So I think you ladies for being on the show.
- 34:07Tell us pass up check. You told us that you wrote a book.
- 34:13How can the listening the audience get that book? Okay? The book is
- 34:17called Godslet of Sunshine, and Godsleet of Sunshine is actually they can look on
- 34:22Amazon dot com and all they gotta do is look for Godsleet of Sunshine.
- 34:27And my name is on that Antoinette up Church. And the book that I
- 34:30wrote is Caring for you know, children with special Needs, Helping families with
- 34:36children with special needs, and just a good book. It's a really good
- 34:40book that talked about her her diagnosis and you know who she was. I
- 34:44remember when she passed, she had close to a thousand people at a funeral.
- 34:46You know, when when children past is just unbelievable, you know what
- 34:52I'm saying. It just really does something. And she was at one point
- 34:54she was in the newspaper as well. God really blessed her. She was
- 34:59an ambassador her too as well for Chapel Hill Hospital. So she did a
- 35:05lot. Really, Uh, there's a legacy that has been left. She's
- 35:08left a legacy, and it's just certain things that we put in place for
- 35:13her so that her legacy will never die. And so that book is definitely
- 35:17one of them. And it's called God's Little Sunshine and unbelievable. She was
- 35:22a sweet baby, sweet sweet beautiful baby and sweet just as loving and kind
- 35:28and I just I just thank God. She changed my life. Prophet is
- 35:34Alma. She changed my life. I'm not the person I used to be
- 35:37when she passed away, everything negative about me changed. I became a pep
- 35:43pptpis person positive power for talking and powerful, positive, powerful thinking person.
- 35:50My granddaughter did that. Her death was not in vain. It changed our
- 35:53whole family. So when I said, it changed us, we are better.
- 36:00We're better, and and that's her. The book is really good.
- 36:02It's called Gossip of Sunshine and Barnes and Nobles. But most time I tell
- 36:08people just to go to Amazon dot com and Antoinette up Church is right there.
- 36:13People order it quite a bit, still ordering it, still reading it.
- 36:16But it do help families because it has information that will be a blessing.

- 38:16here. She lost her mother June fifteenth, the day before I lost my
