- 0:01Speaker 1: Good morning, sports fans are Folkster and welcome to the
- 0:04Speaker 1: Saturday Morning Show with Me, Addwks and Kevin Sports very Daily.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Good morning, Kevin, good morning.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Not too bad, not too bad at all. Lovely sunny
- 0:14Speaker 1: day out there again. You've got shorts on as well.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I'm probably playing for Folks later on.
- 0:22Speaker 1: They're a bit short, so I might play center hal
- 0:24Speaker 1: fall center forward tomorrow.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Today.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a lovely sunny day out there. We've got
- 0:30Speaker 1: a full studio again.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Yeah, lovely, and there's nothing like being busy on a
- 0:33Speaker 3: Saturday morning. We have got Ben and Becky Potter in
- 0:37Speaker 3: today from the Folks and Arrow's wheelchair basketball team, and
- 0:42Speaker 3: we'll be talking to them about everything wheelchair basketball. I've
- 0:45Speaker 3: got a lot to learn this morning. But after that
- 0:49Speaker 3: we will be speaking to Jay Hopkins. Now, if you remember,
- 0:51Speaker 3: Jay was on the show a few weeks ago with
- 0:54Speaker 3: her three sons about to jump out of a plane.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Well they've done that and Jay's come back into tell
- 1:00Speaker 3: us all about it, so don't go anywhere.
- 1:03Speaker 1: Yeah, she was six foot two when she arrived and
- 1:06Speaker 1: she's five foot four. It must have been a bit
- 1:08Speaker 1: of a bumpy landing.
- 1:12Speaker 4: Anyway.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Oh, thanks to Ross for the breakfast show earlier on.
- 1:15Speaker 1: We could play the first song this morning and then
- 1:16Speaker 1: we'll be speaking to Becky and Ben. First one today
- 1:20Speaker 1: is Seal and this one is called Crazy. A man,
- 1:54Speaker 1: they go, there's Seal there and Crazy from nineteen ninety
- 1:58Speaker 1: all that long to go.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Care Yeah, great, great record.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I didn't realize it was so long ago.
- 2:04Speaker 1: As we said, We've got Becky and Ben here, the
- 2:08Speaker 1: Folkstone Arrows of basketball team, sorry disabled basketball team, and
- 2:12Speaker 1: not to be mistaken with the Saints, but I believe
- 2:14Speaker 1: you've got better results for them than the Saints this year.
- 2:17Speaker 3: So as to keV right, okay, so welcome to the show, Ben, Ben,
- 2:22Speaker 3: keep welcome. Becky, how are you doing good? Thank you good,
- 2:24Speaker 3: lovely to see you. Thanks for coming in. So Folkston
- 2:28Speaker 3: Arrows wheelchair basketball. I mean, I really think this sport
- 2:32Speaker 3: has just gone under the radar in this town. To
- 2:34Speaker 3: be honest, it doesn't get the recognition it deserves. So
- 2:37Speaker 3: I'm really really pleased that you've come in so we
- 2:40Speaker 3: can put the word out and get people, you know,
- 2:42Speaker 3: to perhaps get down and have a look. So, so, Ben,
- 2:45Speaker 3: how long has the team been formed?
- 2:47Speaker 4: So I formed the team about ten, not nine or
- 2:51Speaker 4: ten years ago. I used to play Maystone Rebels in Maystone.
- 2:56Speaker 4: That shut down and then there was no basketball in
- 2:59Speaker 4: Kent competitive water basket in Kent for two years. And
- 3:03Speaker 4: then I got the opportunity to have some basketball chairs
- 3:05Speaker 4: and I thought, well, I could sell them and make money.
- 3:08Speaker 4: But I thought no, there's no, there's no, there's no
- 3:10Speaker 4: disability sport in Kent. So I thought I'd start my
- 3:14Speaker 4: own team.
- 3:14Speaker 3: Oh great, yeah, so and so, Becky, I mean you
- 3:18Speaker 3: are the chief number one supporter and kit washer and everything.
- 3:23Speaker 3: So do you actually play the sport or you just
- 3:27Speaker 3: go along support your husband and the team.
- 3:29Speaker 5: I just go along and support. I tried it once.
- 3:31Speaker 5: It wasn't quite for me, but it's really good fun.
- 3:34Speaker 5: I normally I'm in charge of admin and social media
- 3:37Speaker 5: outside of things, and go along and support.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, okay. And I mean I've looked at some
- 3:43Speaker 3: of some of the teams in the league and done
- 3:46Speaker 3: a bit of Actually I went on the AA route
- 3:49Speaker 3: planner and worked out how far away they are. And
- 3:52Speaker 3: you do have some traveling, don't you been?
- 3:53Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, we do travel around the place. Last year,
- 3:57Speaker 4: the furtherest we traveled last year was Cardiff this year.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Luckily we haven't had to go to Cardiff this year.
- 4:03Speaker 4: They've been lots of home county teams. But yeah, if
- 4:08Speaker 4: we we we've done really well this year. We've we've
- 4:11Speaker 4: won nine out of nine games so far and if
- 4:15Speaker 4: we carry on this run, we'll be going to the playoffs,
- 4:17Speaker 4: which national championships, which of this year in Worcester.
- 4:20Speaker 3: All right, so you don't get automatic promotion, yeah.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Still go well, so it's automatic promotion if we if
- 4:26Speaker 4: we win, automatic get promoted up to take division. But
- 4:29Speaker 4: then you go to national champs where you play the best.
- 4:33Speaker 4: So we are third Division South. There's Third Division Central
- 4:36Speaker 4: and Third Division North, so they'll have the top three
- 4:39Speaker 4: out of those and then the best fourth and then
- 4:42Speaker 4: you play to see who is the best team in
- 4:45Speaker 4: the third division throughout the whole country.
- 4:47Speaker 3: I see right, Okay, Now it's not a very big league.
- 4:52Speaker 3: But as we say, you've got a lot of traveling
- 4:53Speaker 3: and you've got a couple of games in hand, haven't
- 4:55Speaker 3: you at the moment. Yeah? Yeah, so so Becker you
- 5:00Speaker 3: telling me a message media other day because I was
- 5:02Speaker 3: looking for the Fixture or the Thames Valley Kings, but
- 5:06Speaker 3: they couldn't make it no.
- 5:07Speaker 5: Unfortunately, they messaged us saying that they couldn't quite create
- 5:09Speaker 5: a team for our match. So we're hoping to reschedule,
- 5:12Speaker 5: but due to illness and things, they weren't able to
- 5:14Speaker 5: come down unfortunately.
- 5:15Speaker 3: So the league quite happy with that. I mean, they
- 5:17Speaker 3: don't mind you rescheduling.
- 5:19Speaker 5: No, as long as it's within a certain time period
- 5:21Speaker 5: and they're happy. Otherwise it's a forfeit on their side.
- 5:24Speaker 3: Yeah, that's right, because over the years I've learned that
- 5:27Speaker 3: in hockey and in rugby, if you opposition can't put
- 5:31Speaker 3: a side out in hockey it goes down as a
- 5:35Speaker 3: five nil loss and in rugby it goes down as
- 5:38Speaker 3: a forty nil loss. So it's nice you've got a
- 5:40Speaker 3: little window. I suppose it's a bit more understanding with
- 5:44Speaker 3: the very nature of the game. So Thames Valley Kings.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Then you've got two away games, haven't you been. You've
- 5:50Speaker 3: got London Titans and Southern Charks. So London Titans I
- 5:55Speaker 3: seem to find like two or three venues for them.
- 5:58Speaker 3: They must be a really big c.
- 6:00Speaker 4: So London Titans is the second biggest club in the country.
- 6:04Speaker 4: The other one is Sheffield Steelers up in Sheffield and
- 6:07Speaker 4: London Titans is a massive club. They have a team
- 6:11Speaker 4: in every single league right from the Premier League right
- 6:14Speaker 4: down to eight foot and five foot juniors as well, really,
- 6:18Speaker 4: which is something I want to do. But yeah, so
- 6:21Speaker 4: when we play London Titans, we're playing at Stanmore. That's
- 6:24Speaker 4: their main base. But yeah, they do have training because
- 6:27Speaker 4: they have so many teams. Yeah, they have training all
- 6:29Speaker 4: over the past and it's different grading of training.
- 6:32Speaker 3: Okay, gotcha. So getting onto the logistics, I mean, if
- 6:35Speaker 3: you get a game where you're playing well or anyone really,
- 6:39Speaker 3: hero Wood Heat Southern Sharks quite a journey and I've
- 6:42Speaker 3: noticed that some of the start times are quite early
- 6:44Speaker 3: all day. I mean, do you get out early or
- 6:47Speaker 3: do you stay overnight?
- 6:49Speaker 4: Sometimes we stay overnight. If it's really early, we stay overnight.
- 6:53Speaker 4: At the moment, we don't have a minibus or anything
- 6:56Speaker 4: like that, so we do travel up individually. So players
- 6:58Speaker 4: will make their own decisions as are happy to get
- 7:00Speaker 4: up at silly o'clock in the morning. Yeah, I'm not
- 7:02Speaker 4: one of those. I'd like to stay in the hotel
- 7:04Speaker 4: and have a decent breakfast and then get ready for
- 7:06Speaker 4: the match that way.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Right now, the logistics are training and that's only thinking
- 7:10Speaker 3: about this this morning. I mean, if someone's going up there,
- 7:13Speaker 3: they've got and they are disabled. Because you have got
- 7:16Speaker 3: able bodied players, we come to come to that shortly.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Do they have to make room for their own chair?
- 7:24Speaker 3: And do they keep their own basketball chair?
- 7:27Speaker 4: Yeah, so everyone's got their own individual basketball chair, which
- 7:30Speaker 4: is slightly different to a normal day chair. Most players
- 7:35Speaker 4: will bring their own. We do have some storage, but
- 7:39Speaker 4: that's only for club chairs. So I have a development
- 7:42Speaker 4: session before the main session and they use my chairs,
- 7:46Speaker 4: the club chairs, and we managed to get some storage
- 7:48Speaker 4: for those. So everyone has to bring their own. So
- 7:50Speaker 4: most people have got a big enough car where they
- 7:53Speaker 4: they can get them in.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, we're right. So I mean that's why that
- 7:58Speaker 3: sounds with that one, that's for sure. And I mean
- 8:02Speaker 3: I've seen the game a couple of times. I've been
- 8:04Speaker 3: up and sneakly watched you lot play at the Sports
- 8:07Speaker 3: Center and oh my word, I was absolutely let's get
- 8:10Speaker 3: out the way, you know, because you get run over.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, I mean, Becky, does it worry you when
- 8:16Speaker 3: when you're watching the players out there, thinking, oh, you know,
- 8:18Speaker 3: are they going to get do you get many injuries or.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Not many generally players do you occasionally fall out? That
- 8:26Speaker 5: does happen. I've watched it for many years, so don't
- 8:27Speaker 5: get shocked as I used to, and generally people are
- 8:30Speaker 5: used to it. But yeah, it's quite an intense.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Game, it is. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, But uh I
- 8:38Speaker 3: mean because of that, I mean this promotion that you
- 8:40Speaker 3: might possibly get, obviously, it's going to get harder. Have
- 8:44Speaker 3: you have you ever experienced the next level up?
- 8:46Speaker 2: Then?
- 8:47Speaker 4: So when I used to play the highest, I played
- 8:49Speaker 4: with Div two. So I played in Division two and
- 8:53Speaker 4: I'll be honest, when I played Div two it was
- 8:55Speaker 4: more like the level of Div three. Now the level
- 8:58Speaker 4: has increased so much, so we are going to have
- 9:02Speaker 4: to train a lot harder, put the effort in to
- 9:05Speaker 4: really up our game when we go up, if we
- 9:07Speaker 4: go up to Div to.
- 9:08Speaker 3: Okay, Well, we're going to play a bit of music now,
- 9:10Speaker 3: and as always, we try and dig into the playlist,
- 9:13Speaker 3: but I must admit I couldn't find a song about
- 9:16Speaker 3: wheelchairs or basketball. But you do do a lot of traveling.
- 9:19Speaker 3: So we've got this one by the traveling Whelber is
- 9:21Speaker 3: called End of the Line. Well, it's as a traveling
- 9:48Speaker 3: wheelbar is there for the folks and Narrows who have
- 9:50Speaker 3: got a lot of traveling next season that hopefully if
- 9:55Speaker 3: they get promotions. Now, Ben, I've just got the list
- 9:59Speaker 3: of the teams that are currently in Division two South
- 10:03Speaker 3: and some of these venues you might have been to.
- 10:05Speaker 3: Obviously we know the London Titans, but Coventry. Have you
- 10:08Speaker 3: been to Coventry?
- 10:09Speaker 4: Yeah, well I played Coventary. Yeah.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Yeah. We've got the high Rollers in Harlow in Essex.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Yeah, so I used to train with the high Rollers
- 10:17Speaker 4: when I was at university in Essex.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Oh.
- 10:19Speaker 4: Yeah, they're a very very good team. Ye. So yeah,
- 10:22Speaker 4: that's in Essex. Uh, Riverside, I.
- 10:26Speaker 3: Don't know towns really we've got Aces wheelchair basketball.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Yeah, I've also I've also played against as they're quite
- 10:35Speaker 4: a young team but they're very very well drilled.
- 10:38Speaker 3: Again, traveling wise, i've got here that they could travel.
- 10:41Speaker 3: You could be in Eylsbury and Buckinghamshire or Late and
- 10:44Speaker 3: Buzzard uh and entering in Hertfordshire. So they must be
- 10:48Speaker 3: a big club to have those venues.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Again, they've they've got two to or three teams.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Yeah, we've got Cardiff met Archers you've been there read
- 10:55Speaker 3: in Rockets you've been to read.
- 10:56Speaker 4: In Nope, not been reading.
- 10:57Speaker 3: That's all right, that might be a new one. And
- 11:00Speaker 3: Brixton Ballers that sounds like a bit of a Harlem
- 11:02Speaker 3: Globe trotters.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Yeah, they're they're they're an interesting team. Put it that way.
- 11:07Speaker 4: It's I wouldn't say its wheelchair basketball or wheelchair chaos,
- 11:11Speaker 4: but they are. It's always fun when well.
- 11:13Speaker 3: They're looking at this table. You might be swapping places
- 11:16Speaker 3: because their bottom of Division two self and your talk
- 11:18Speaker 3: of Division three.
- 11:19Speaker 4: Yeah, I won't necessarily miss that if that's the case.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Yeah, right now, we was just talking off there. Becky,
- 11:26Speaker 3: you've got some news about and it's something I didn't
- 11:28Speaker 3: know because it's you're keeping it low key to get
- 11:30Speaker 3: it off off the ground. But development team tell us
- 11:33Speaker 3: about that. Yeah.
- 11:34Speaker 5: So we have a session for our younger players and
- 11:38Speaker 5: people that are new to the sport as well. Give
- 11:41Speaker 5: them a chance to learn about wheelchairs, learn about wilchair basketball,
- 11:44Speaker 5: and just meet some other disabled people if they are disabled.
- 11:47Speaker 5: Once they're at a level that we feel they know
- 11:50Speaker 5: the sport well, we have something called the Inspire League,
- 11:53Speaker 5: and the Inspire League is a round of matches. They
- 11:56Speaker 5: can play with other development groups and they get to
- 12:00Speaker 5: chants to have a feel for the sport for themselves
- 12:02Speaker 5: and have some fun.
- 12:03Speaker 3: Okay, so I mean is it inspire? Is it inspired?
- 12:06Speaker 3: I mean our sort of arrangement. How far you go?
- 12:10Speaker 5: So it's not normally too far from this one. It's
- 12:12Speaker 5: normally sort of London way. We're quite local thankfully, so
- 12:15Speaker 5: it's not too much traveling for those.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Right, And do the same rules apply if they're a
- 12:19Speaker 3: development squad? I mean, is it a shorter time period
- 12:22Speaker 3: or I mean you play just one game at a time.
- 12:25Speaker 5: So yeah, it's normally one game at a time. All
- 12:26Speaker 5: the normal rules apply, but it's sort of a little
- 12:30Speaker 5: bit more lenient because they're learning, so they won't get
- 12:32Speaker 5: as many fouls or things like that.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's a good introduction to the senior definitely.
- 12:38Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Okay, that's good news. We'll have to keep an eye
- 12:41Speaker 3: on that because I think that's really worth to mention
- 12:43Speaker 3: as well. There might be some parents out there that
- 12:45Speaker 3: have got disabled children. Or he doesn't have to be disabled,
- 12:49Speaker 3: because Ben, that's what I want to talk about now.
- 12:51Speaker 3: It's called wheelchair basketball, but you don't have to have
- 12:55Speaker 3: a disability to play, Is that right? Explain about that.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Yeah, no, so you don't have to have this to
- 13:01Speaker 4: play at a national level. When you start playing internationally,
- 13:04Speaker 4: you have to be register disabled. But when you play
- 13:06Speaker 4: at a national level, you can play as an able
- 13:08Speaker 4: body person. We have in the wheelchairsport. We have a
- 13:11Speaker 4: classification system from a five point player down to a
- 13:14Speaker 4: one point player. An everybody person be five point and
- 13:17Speaker 4: then it goes down in disability and range of movement.
- 13:21Speaker 4: You can have one or two everybody people on your
- 13:26Speaker 4: team sheet, but you can only play one on the
- 13:28Speaker 4: court at one time.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Okay, right, and is such a thing then as a substitution,
- 13:32Speaker 3: do you have substitutes on the line.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we have substitutes yep. So there is an
- 13:36Speaker 4: unlimited amount of substitutions. Okay, but because of the classification system,
- 13:41Speaker 4: you can only have a certain amount of player points
- 13:43Speaker 4: on the court at once. So in our league you
- 13:46Speaker 4: can have fifteen points on the court at once, So
- 13:50Speaker 4: a five point everybody player is obviously five point of that.
- 13:52Speaker 4: So then you've got to make four other players out
- 13:56Speaker 4: of the other ten points. So it comes down to
- 13:58Speaker 4: tactics for the coach.
- 14:00Speaker 1: You were you were saying you have certain people, you
- 14:03Speaker 1: can have substitutions all the time. Do you have a
- 14:07Speaker 1: coach on the sideline that does the substitutions always that
- 14:11Speaker 1: you all the time?
- 14:12Speaker 2: What do you do if you're not on the court.
- 14:14Speaker 4: So at the moment, I don't play because I had
- 14:17Speaker 4: surgery last year, so I'm still recovering. I have now
- 14:20Speaker 4: finally got back into my bustle chair. But I'm nowhere.
- 14:22Speaker 4: You're ready to play it. So I'm on the coach.
- 14:25Speaker 4: I'm the I am the coach. So I'm on the
- 14:27Speaker 4: sideline all the time making decisions.
- 14:29Speaker 3: And the subs are they roll on? Roll off? Can
- 14:31Speaker 3: they go back on again?
- 14:32Speaker 4: Yes? Again?
- 14:33Speaker 2: Yes?
- 14:33Speaker 4: Okay, yeah, yeah. So I tend to sub my top
- 14:37Speaker 4: scoring players to give them a rest or bring them
- 14:40Speaker 4: back on and you know, do super plays and things
- 14:42Speaker 4: like that.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Right, I understand that you've got one of my old
- 14:46Speaker 1: one of my old Sunday Morning football players, mister Lawrence Bloomfield.
- 14:50Speaker 1: If you're listening this morning, good morning Laws. And if
- 14:53Speaker 1: brother Matt's listening as well, good morning Matty.
- 14:56Speaker 4: Yeah, Laura, Lawrence has played for many, many years.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 15:00Speaker 1: He was always very very keen and Sunday Morning and
- 15:03Speaker 1: he was a great asset to the Sunday Morning team. So, yeah,
- 15:07Speaker 1: good morning Laws if you're listening.
- 15:09Speaker 3: And I did notice, I'm sure I know this that
- 15:11Speaker 3: the team you are it's not just male players, is it.
- 15:14Speaker 3: You've got some females in the.
- 15:15Speaker 4: Yeah, no, it's it's it's a mixed sport. We have. Well,
- 15:19Speaker 4: my main female Meg, she used to play GB level
- 15:24Speaker 4: back in the day for GB women's. She retired out
- 15:28Speaker 4: of that many years ago and I managed to persuade
- 15:30Speaker 4: her to come back and she's a very crucial part
- 15:33Speaker 4: of our team. Yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 3: And are you players? Are they mostly local? They travel
- 15:37Speaker 3: in Okay, We've.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Had players all over the places because they say we're
- 15:42Speaker 4: the only competitive Wiltshire basketball team in Kent. So I've
- 15:45Speaker 4: got a new chat from Battle. I've had people from
- 15:48Speaker 4: Dartford before, Maidstone, Regular Basis, Tendon, so Ashford LID. So
- 15:55Speaker 4: you know players literally come from right right.
- 15:57Speaker 3: Oh that's that's good for the sport though, isn't it.
- 16:01Speaker 3: So Becky starting to wind up now, So is there
- 16:04Speaker 3: anything you want to add? I mean, if people are listening,
- 16:07Speaker 3: especially for the development side of things, how can they
- 16:11Speaker 3: get in touch with you.
- 16:12Speaker 5: So we're on Facebook and Instagram. It's just called fatescenarow
- 16:17Speaker 5: to watch a basketball club. Give us a message. Even
- 16:19Speaker 5: if you just want to come and have a look,
- 16:21Speaker 5: We're more than happy to welcome you and have a
- 16:24Speaker 5: chat with you about disability sport.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Right, So you said about youngsters. But if there's someone
- 16:31Speaker 3: that wants to try the sport, is age a concern?
- 16:35Speaker 3: I mean, you know, perhaps they might be in the thirties,
- 16:38Speaker 3: but they've never done it before, so they're obviously a
- 16:41Speaker 3: rookie player. Can they go in the development scored?
- 16:43Speaker 5: Yep, we're welcome to anyone any age. Were welcome anyone
- 16:48Speaker 5: that is excellent.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I mean you have to get the word out about
- 16:51Speaker 3: that because that's a great feeder into the senior side.
- 16:56Speaker 3: So Ben, now, then, as we're running out of time,
- 17:00Speaker 3: anything else you want to add. There must be some Hello.
- 17:02Speaker 3: Is anybody listening, Is the dog the cat listening?
- 17:04Speaker 4: Or yeah, just to just say just say hello to
- 17:08Speaker 4: anyone who's listening, and anyone needs welcome to the try
- 17:14Speaker 4: the development session. It is open literally to anyone.
- 17:17Speaker 2: You say you can try it.
- 17:18Speaker 1: I see you don't have any more home games less
- 17:20Speaker 1: this season, but where do you actually play your home
- 17:23Speaker 1: games so people can actually find out where you're actually based,
- 17:25Speaker 1: where you can they can come and have a try out.
- 17:29Speaker 4: So if you follow our social media, but Becky's very good,
- 17:32Speaker 4: she always posts where our matches are going to be.
- 17:35Speaker 4: At the moment they're at Folks and Academy at Sports
- 17:38Speaker 4: Hall at the top sports Hall. But I'm hoping when
- 17:41Speaker 4: the folks at sports Center, hopefully fingers crossed home again,
- 17:44Speaker 4: we'll go back there. Yeah, and then yeah, we'll be
- 17:47Speaker 4: back there hopefully.
- 17:48Speaker 3: Right now we've touched on all the sporty side of stuff,
- 17:50Speaker 3: but underlying this, I mean these players must put a
- 17:53Speaker 3: lot of time and effort and their own money into
- 17:56Speaker 3: gett into these games. So this is a big shout
- 18:00Speaker 3: and it's over to you on this one being a sponsorship.
- 18:03Speaker 3: So obviously after some sponsors, So just tell us what
- 18:07Speaker 3: sponsors could do.
- 18:08Speaker 4: So at the moment we are completely self funded, but
- 18:13Speaker 4: going into the second Division and the traveling and all
- 18:16Speaker 4: the rest of it, we will need some sponsors. Now
- 18:20Speaker 4: when I was when I started up this club, I
- 18:22Speaker 4: started this club because there was no disability sport in
- 18:25Speaker 4: Kent and we now have we now have one particular
- 18:30Speaker 4: player who has come right through from his bio league.
- 18:35Speaker 4: He started off in a power chair, now pushes his
- 18:39Speaker 4: own manual chair, He's got his own wheelchair, basketball chair
- 18:42Speaker 4: coming completely funded for free. And to see him go
- 18:47Speaker 4: through from right from starting off to where he is
- 18:50Speaker 4: now is incredible. And funding, any sponsorship or any funding
- 18:54Speaker 4: that we get would help the next child to go
- 18:57Speaker 4: through that process or next person to go through that process.
- 19:00Speaker 4: Doesn't have to be a child, you know. And that's all.
- 19:03Speaker 4: That's all I've advocated for the whole way through this
- 19:05Speaker 4: whole process is just to give disabled people the opportunity
- 19:09Speaker 4: that I didn't get as a kid because when I
- 19:11Speaker 4: was a child, there wasn't disability sport. It wasn't pushed
- 19:14Speaker 4: as much as it is now. And I want to
- 19:16Speaker 4: give people in Folks and Kent the opportunity to play.
- 19:20Speaker 4: So if we do get sponsors, it'll be able to
- 19:22Speaker 4: help the running of the club, the cost of hiring
- 19:25Speaker 4: the hall, the cost of equipment potentially, you know, to
- 19:28Speaker 4: help the players get to get into the sport and
- 19:33Speaker 4: to be more social, so socially out there. And because
- 19:37Speaker 4: we have a big social side of our club as well,
- 19:39Speaker 4: we all meet up for coffee after every training session,
- 19:42Speaker 4: we go out for meals and whatever else, and we
- 19:46Speaker 4: have barbecues around my house because I've converted my back
- 19:49Speaker 4: garden so that we can fit will to use it
- 19:50Speaker 4: to that because it's always difficult.
- 19:53Speaker 2: We're still waiting for that invitation.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Hasn't got any baskets out there?
- 20:00Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, exactly all over the place, exactly.
- 20:06Speaker 3: Seriously, if there's anybody out there that has been listening
- 20:08Speaker 3: to this, and perhaps I didn't even realize that folks
- 20:13Speaker 3: had a wheelchair basketball team and they fantasy just helping
- 20:17Speaker 3: out any way they can, then please please either get
- 20:20Speaker 3: in touch with me through my Facebook page or directly
- 20:23Speaker 3: to Becky on their Facebook page. And well, we're going
- 20:27Speaker 3: to wrap up now, but Becky, you've got any helloes
- 20:30Speaker 3: to say? There must be must be someone listening that
- 20:32Speaker 3: you want to say.
- 20:35Speaker 5: Yeah, well, just sort of family for helping support us
- 20:38Speaker 5: really through this journey and the team really, and we're
- 20:41Speaker 5: done for the team for doing so well so far.
- 20:43Speaker 3: Excellent, Ben, last word from you, anything you want to
- 20:46Speaker 3: add before we go, No.
- 20:48Speaker 4: Just just say thank you for having us and it's
- 20:49Speaker 4: been a delight and I love talking about wheelchair basketball.
- 20:52Speaker 4: And I love talking about how it can affect people's
- 20:55Speaker 4: lives and a positive outlook. So yeah, I'm not happy.
- 20:58Speaker 3: Thanks been great having you on and it's been a
- 21:01Speaker 3: real education to yourself, ad and I hope loads and
- 21:04Speaker 3: loads of people out there. So unfortunately there won't be
- 21:08Speaker 3: a home game for this season, but keep your ears
- 21:13Speaker 3: pinned to radio folks them because we want these guys
- 21:16Speaker 3: to go up and then we want to really push
- 21:19Speaker 3: this and perhaps you can help in any way you can.
- 21:22Speaker 3: So Becky, Ben, thanks for coming in. And it's been
- 21:25Speaker 3: a pleasure. Thank you.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been a really interesting outlook into the sport. Yeah,
- 21:31Speaker 1: we're going to play another another sound here and this
- 21:34Speaker 1: is here we go.
- 21:35Speaker 2: This is perfect day.
- 21:36Speaker 1: And from nineteen ninety seven again all those many years ago, just.
- 21:52Speaker 3: A perfect day.
- 21:56Speaker 4: Drinks and.
- 22:03Speaker 3: You know you won't remember.
- 22:07Speaker 1: There you go, there's raise a light and in the
- 22:10Speaker 1: morning and that was the one before that you had
- 22:13Speaker 1: perfect day. Well, the Folks and Arrows basketball team have
- 22:17Speaker 1: left the building and we've got Jay in.
- 22:21Speaker 6: Good morning, Jay morning, A how are I'm very well?
- 22:24Speaker 6: Thank you? Beautiful day is.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Just a perfect day, as they just said, Yeah, fresh
- 22:32Speaker 1: from your charity aeroplane jump.
- 22:35Speaker 6: Yeah, we could go today. We were jumping out of
- 22:38Speaker 6: a plane. We also had a gorgeous day that day
- 22:40Speaker 6: as well, very lucky.
- 22:42Speaker 3: That's brilliant. I mean, for those of you that haven't
- 22:45Speaker 3: seen it, check out the video. It's just it's like
- 22:48Speaker 3: vibes are jumping out of the screen because you just
- 22:51Speaker 3: feel the wind in your face when you're watching, you know,
- 22:54Speaker 3: the video of it. So without further ado, it's probably best,
- 22:58Speaker 3: Jay if you just runs through the day. I mean,
- 23:01Speaker 3: you all went up there together. Was you'll obviously a
- 23:03Speaker 3: big excited, a bit nervous, and we were.
- 23:05Speaker 6: I was nervous before that we wouldn't be able to
- 23:07Speaker 6: jump because it's obviously very dependent on the weather. And
- 23:10Speaker 6: we woke up to glorious sunshine. The three boys that
- 23:14Speaker 6: Oscar lives in Folkeston, Milo in London, and Ivor in Somerset,
- 23:19Speaker 6: so they'd all come back down and I just thought, oh, please,
- 23:22Speaker 6: let us be able to do it. And we drove
- 23:23Speaker 6: up to Headgorne and it was gorgeous sunshine the whole
- 23:25Speaker 6: way we got there. Checked in, they waged us all
- 23:29Speaker 6: to check that we really weighed what we said we would.
- 23:33Speaker 6: You don't want to get that wrong, and then we'd
- 23:36Speaker 6: been given a check in time of ten o'clock, but
- 23:39Speaker 6: they did say we could be waiting around all day
- 23:41Speaker 6: because it's all dependent on who's ready and available when,
- 23:44Speaker 6: and particularly with there being four of us who wanted
- 23:46Speaker 6: to jump out of the same plane, it was quite
- 23:49Speaker 6: dependent on all sorts of other people and what they
- 23:52Speaker 6: were doing. But actually we only sat around for about
- 23:56Speaker 6: two hours, and it was in glorious sunshine, watching other
- 24:00Speaker 6: parachutists jump out of the sky and planes and helicopters take.
- 24:05Speaker 3: Off, so it was still another wave of planes go up,
- 24:08Speaker 3: you know, before you, So they were under the same
- 24:12Speaker 3: impression that they had to hang around, but they went up,
- 24:15Speaker 3: so the turnover was quite quick.
- 24:16Speaker 6: Yes, some people had been given nine o'clock as an
- 24:19Speaker 6: arrival time. We'd been given ten o'clock as an arrival time.
- 24:21Speaker 6: So they just have people kind of arriving in waves
- 24:24Speaker 6: and get through as many as they can at whatever rate.
- 24:27Speaker 3: And did you feel the plane was I know, there's
- 24:29Speaker 3: four of you, but was there any other anyway? Was
- 24:31Speaker 3: it just you?
- 24:32Speaker 6: For there was us four and one other person jumping
- 24:35Speaker 6: out of our plane, and then there was also the videographer.
- 24:38Speaker 6: So we were all tandem, so we're all attached to someone,
- 24:42Speaker 6: but there was also a videographer jumping out as well.
- 24:45Speaker 3: That's amazing.
- 24:47Speaker 1: And you know you said you had to have waked
- 24:49Speaker 1: around for two hours before.
- 24:51Speaker 2: How nervous were you? You get you know you're there
- 24:54Speaker 2: and you're thinking.
- 24:54Speaker 1: You don't know when you're going to jump, And obviously
- 24:57Speaker 1: it's a big deal jumping out of an aeroplane anyway,
- 24:59Speaker 1: but the longer you wait, so I do imagine it's
- 25:02Speaker 1: the nerves and everything all kicking.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Did they or do you know?
- 25:06Speaker 4: We're all so logical.
- 25:07Speaker 6: We were all super excited and really ready for it,
- 25:11Speaker 6: but I kind of feel like we all felt we'd
- 25:13Speaker 6: risk assessed it already. We knew we were going to
- 25:15Speaker 6: be attached to someone. In fact, the guy who was
- 25:18Speaker 6: my tandem instructor had done twenty eight thousand parachutes, so
- 25:25Speaker 6: we felt really confident. Actually, And a lot of people
- 25:28Speaker 6: have said when they've watched that video that in that
- 25:30Speaker 6: little plane where you're going up quite slip steeply and
- 25:33Speaker 6: you're sat on benches pointing backwards in the plane, so
- 25:37Speaker 6: it all feels quite unnatural, to be honest, But we
- 25:40Speaker 6: were all smiling and laughing because we were just dead
- 25:42Speaker 6: excited it was about to happen.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I was going to say that.
- 25:45Speaker 1: I mean, I've not watched the video as well and
- 25:47Speaker 1: the photos that you had taken, And the thing that
- 25:52Speaker 1: to me is the big smiles on all your faces.
- 25:54Speaker 1: You look really really happy. That didn't look no nervously
- 25:58Speaker 1: is there at all. He just looks like you really
- 26:01Speaker 1: enjoyed it.
- 26:01Speaker 6: We really did. It was so much fun. It was
- 26:03Speaker 6: just it's such a wild thing to be able to
- 26:05Speaker 6: do anyway, and to be able to do it with
- 26:07Speaker 6: all three sons, and for them to do it with
- 26:09Speaker 6: their brothers. They really enjoyed it.
- 26:11Speaker 2: It's something you were you know, obviously you wouldn't. You'll
- 26:13Speaker 2: never forget absolutely, and you did it for good cause
- 26:16Speaker 2: as well.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Yes, so we did the fundraising go which is probably
- 26:19Speaker 3: still open. Is it's still open?
- 26:20Speaker 6: It is still open. We've raised well over three thousand pounds.
- 26:24Speaker 6: I'm super tough. And do you know, Breast Cancer Now,
- 26:27Speaker 6: which is the charity we've been raising money for, have
- 26:30Speaker 6: been so lovely about it. They sent us a handwritten
- 26:33Speaker 6: card from a girl called Pearl who works at Breast
- 26:36Speaker 6: Cancer Now saying, you know, written with our names and
- 26:39Speaker 6: saying well done on meeting your target and go and
- 26:42Speaker 6: enjoy it. Left us a little voicemail message. They've been
- 26:45Speaker 6: They've made us feel really appreciated, which is a lovely thing.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Actually, that's nice to know that you're appreciated. You know,
- 26:52Speaker 1: you're raising the money for that particular charity, and yeah,
- 26:55Speaker 1: I think that's that's great.
- 26:57Speaker 3: I mean, you probably lost all track of time, but
- 27:01Speaker 3: how long does it take from the jumping out the
- 27:03Speaker 3: plane to landing?
- 27:04Speaker 6: You're absolutely right. If I hadn't been told how long
- 27:06Speaker 6: it was going to take, I would have had no
- 27:07Speaker 6: idea that the first bit the skydive. So that's when
- 27:11Speaker 6: you're kind of horizontal with your arms out in front
- 27:13Speaker 6: of you probably seen it on the telly before. That's
- 27:15Speaker 6: about thirty to forty seconds. We jumped from twelve thousand feet,
- 27:20Speaker 6: which is about two point two miles, so you're really
- 27:22Speaker 6: a long way up. And the weirdest thing about it
- 27:25Speaker 6: is what's happening is you're free falling through the sky.
- 27:29Speaker 6: But because that's such an unusual kind of concept, your
- 27:32Speaker 6: brain doesn't really think that's what's happening. Your brain just
- 27:36Speaker 6: think there's lots of air coming up at you, so
- 27:38Speaker 6: you're falling at one hundred and twenty miles an hour,
- 27:40Speaker 6: but it just feels like you're being blown upwards almost
- 27:44Speaker 6: because there's so much wind coming up in your face.
- 27:47Speaker 6: You can see on the photographs there's photos of me
- 27:49Speaker 6: with my cheeks.
- 27:52Speaker 3: Because I'm trying.
- 27:56Speaker 6: And then suddenly the parachute opens after thirty to forty seconds,
- 28:01Speaker 6: and it feels like you're going upwards, which of course
- 28:04Speaker 6: you're not, it's just slowing the.
- 28:08Speaker 2: You'll be catapulted.
- 28:09Speaker 6: It feels like you're going upwards as well, and then
- 28:13Speaker 6: you're from then on you're sort of hanging vertically, so
- 28:16Speaker 6: it's a very different feeling, and the instructor sort of
- 28:19Speaker 6: loosens a few bits and pieces because then you're in
- 28:21Speaker 6: a much more sort of comfortable position and that you
- 28:24Speaker 6: don't need to be strapped quite as hard to them,
- 28:26Speaker 6: so they loosen things and everything feels a little bit
- 28:29Speaker 6: more like normality and reality. But also by then you're
- 28:33Speaker 6: near enough to the ground that it feels like the
- 28:36Speaker 6: ground's coming up towards you, so you can you can
- 28:38Speaker 6: see what's happening. We could see across to London we
- 28:41Speaker 6: could see it was this beautiful patchwork quilt that we
- 28:44Speaker 6: could see. It was absoutely wonderful.
- 28:46Speaker 3: There's one absolutely lovely bit in the video where the
- 28:50Speaker 3: camera focused on you and you just said, it's so beautiful.
- 28:54Speaker 6: And you get about five minutes of that, that stage
- 28:58Speaker 6: of hanging from a parachute until the bottom, and they
- 29:01Speaker 6: make the one thing they make you sort of practice
- 29:03Speaker 6: in training in advance is that you can lift your
- 29:06Speaker 6: legs up really high. Because however the tandem instructor decides
- 29:11Speaker 6: to land, whether they decide to land on their feet
- 29:13Speaker 6: or they kind of skid in on their bum which
- 29:15Speaker 6: they do a lot of the time, what they need
- 29:17Speaker 6: is not to have your.
- 29:18Speaker 3: Legs at the way basically, so once.
- 29:20Speaker 6: You get quite close to the ground, they make you
- 29:22Speaker 6: prove you can do that hanging off a strap in advance,
- 29:25Speaker 6: and then when you get quite close to the ground,
- 29:26Speaker 6: they say, right, legs up now, and keep those up,
- 29:28Speaker 6: keep them up, don't put them down. Whatever happens.
- 29:31Speaker 3: And what was your first feeling when you got down,
- 29:34Speaker 3: apart from amazement? Did you want to go back up again?
- 29:39Speaker 6: No? I mean the first thought was are the three
- 29:42Speaker 6: boys all all right enough? Because that I jumped before them.
- 29:45Speaker 6: They were all behind me, but there was also someone
- 29:48Speaker 6: who was doing that video who was in my face
- 29:50Speaker 6: going did you enjoy it? So I was trying to
- 29:53Speaker 6: sort of smile and say hello and yes to them,
- 29:56Speaker 6: but also check that the boys were, which of course they.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Yeah, when you all jumped out, was it like five
- 30:04Speaker 1: ten seconds after each did you meet everybody in We're
- 30:08Speaker 1: all four of you in the air at the same time.
- 30:11Speaker 6: No, so we were We didn't see each other at
- 30:14Speaker 6: the kind of skydive section, and then I could see
- 30:17Speaker 6: them as I was parachuting. I could see them above me,
- 30:21Speaker 6: but quite a long way above me coming in, and
- 30:24Speaker 6: then obviously as we as I came down, they all
- 30:26Speaker 6: sort of started landing around me. But yeah, it was
- 30:31Speaker 6: just the most extraordinary experience, It really was.
- 30:34Speaker 3: Yeah. And what about when the after after effect? I mean,
- 30:40Speaker 3: was you buzzing for a day?
- 30:43Speaker 2: Yeahlin after that must have been a mean, it was.
- 30:46Speaker 6: It was huge. We were all kind of high fiving,
- 30:49Speaker 6: just dead excited. And so what we did actually was
- 30:52Speaker 6: jumping to take off for all the kind of suit
- 30:56Speaker 6: that you have to wear, a jumpsuit type thing, and
- 30:58Speaker 6: then we were also starving by this point, So we
- 31:01Speaker 6: all went to a local pub not too far from
- 31:05Speaker 6: Pluckley and sat down and just kind of post mortemned
- 31:09Speaker 6: you know how we all felt about it all, which
- 31:11Speaker 6: was a really good thing to do, and had huge
- 31:13Speaker 6: burgers yea.
- 31:15Speaker 3: And did the boys enjoy it as much as you did?
- 31:18Speaker 6: Yeah, they all absolutely loved it, and they're super thrilled
- 31:21Speaker 6: that they have done it. I think they are probably
- 31:24Speaker 6: more inclined to do it again in the future.
- 31:26Speaker 4: I kind of.
- 31:26Speaker 6: Feel like I absolutely would if it was, you know,
- 31:29Speaker 6: I needed to do it for charity, or it was
- 31:31Speaker 6: going to save a life. I suppose it could save
- 31:33Speaker 6: my life potentially, then I would absolutely do it. But
- 31:36Speaker 6: I don't think I would choose to do it again.
- 31:38Speaker 6: I'd do something else another time. But the boys all
- 31:41Speaker 6: loved it, yeah.
- 31:42Speaker 1: I mean when you came in earlier with the boys
- 31:44Speaker 1: as well, I mean, you were all really keen to
- 31:46Speaker 1: do it.
- 31:47Speaker 2: So it's nice to hear that you really enjoyed it
- 31:49Speaker 2: as well.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, because you know, you sometimes you might think, well, yeah,
- 31:53Speaker 1: I'll do this for charity, and then you've got to
- 31:55Speaker 1: actually do the thing that you're going to do, and
- 31:58Speaker 1: then you don't quite enjoy it.
- 31:59Speaker 2: But you really looked.
- 32:02Speaker 6: When I've run marathons and things before, you know the
- 32:05Speaker 6: amount of training that you have to do, you start
- 32:06Speaker 6: to think, oh goodness, I mean, that's much harder to
- 32:09Speaker 6: do that kind of thing than this. This is turn
- 32:12Speaker 6: up and do what you're told and really but yeah,
- 32:15Speaker 6: it was. It was absolutely brilliant fun.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Well, yeah, there's anything else you want to add before
- 32:19Speaker 3: we go, I think we just want to recap on
- 32:22Speaker 3: your just give in because the page is open. You know,
- 32:26Speaker 3: you've all done the deed, You've been through the emotional
- 32:30Speaker 3: side of it, so it's really time to take a
- 32:34Speaker 3: step backwards and see yeah, they've just givings going.
- 32:36Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 32:37Speaker 6: Well, just a huge thank you to everyone who's supported us.
- 32:41Speaker 6: I'm really really grateful and breast Cancer now for being
- 32:44Speaker 6: so kind to us, Skydive Headcorn for looking after us
- 32:47Speaker 6: and making sure that we all got down safely. I
- 32:50Speaker 6: think there was one particular moment where I was on
- 32:53Speaker 6: the edge of the door about to go out. Well
- 32:55Speaker 6: I'm not even on the edge of the door because
- 32:57Speaker 6: you're instructors on the edge of the door, so you're
- 32:58Speaker 6: really out of the plane and all three boys were
- 33:02Speaker 6: just watching their mother about to fly out at two
- 33:05Speaker 6: and a half miles.
- 33:06Speaker 3: And the thing I will say is that I was
- 33:08Speaker 3: looking at the video and if you look closely on
- 33:11Speaker 3: some of the inside, there's like some insulating tape yea,
- 33:14Speaker 3: even the drafts coming in I suppose it was. Yeah,
- 33:16Speaker 3: I thought, oh my goodness, they don't see that anything
- 33:19Speaker 3: is all together by blastos.
- 33:20Speaker 2: Well.
- 33:20Speaker 6: At one point Milo said he could feel his instructor
- 33:22Speaker 6: pushing the tape back into place on the side of
- 33:26Speaker 6: the plane. But yeah, it all felt very safe and
- 33:29Speaker 6: it was absolutely wonderful. Big, huge thank you to everyone
- 33:32Speaker 6: who's supported us, including you guys Aiden keV for having
- 33:35Speaker 6: us in.
- 33:35Speaker 3: We really appreciate it more than welcome.
- 33:38Speaker 6: And if anyone does want to support us there, I
- 33:42Speaker 6: think we've got about another week before the fundraising closes,
- 33:46Speaker 6: and the easiest way to do it is to find me.
- 33:48Speaker 6: I'm Jae Hopkins either on LinkedIn or on Facebook, and
- 33:52Speaker 6: you'll find links to our just giving page there.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Brilliant you heard that, So yeah, make sure that you
- 33:58Speaker 1: check out the page and you can see the video
- 34:01Speaker 1: and everything. They're there as well, and I enjoy it
- 34:03Speaker 1: like like we.
- 34:04Speaker 3: Did, right, Okay, so ady over to you now.
- 34:07Speaker 1: Okay, Well last night it was gig time again. I
- 34:11Speaker 1: actually managed to go to the gig and I went
- 34:12Speaker 1: to the Pennytheater in Canterbury and I saw my friend's band,
- 34:19Speaker 1: certified Madness tribute band, and they were they're really good.
- 34:23Speaker 1: They've they've only just started out, so they've some of
- 34:26Speaker 1: the records weren't quite as good as what they was name.
- 34:28Speaker 1: But obviously I'm going to play a Madness song, and
- 34:31Speaker 1: I'm going to play my favorite Madness song, which is Mistakes,
- 34:36Speaker 1: and it's the B side of One Step Beyond. There
- 34:53Speaker 1: you go, there's Madness and Mistakes the B side of
- 34:58Speaker 1: One Step Beyond. Not a song that you're here very
- 35:01Speaker 1: often on the radio, but that's probably my favorite Madney's song.
- 35:05Speaker 3: Well, okay, so Adrian, we're run out of time now,
- 35:09Speaker 3: but I do think we need to just mention the
- 35:12Speaker 3: fact that you've got a game to go to this
- 35:13Speaker 3: afternoon and you've got an exclusive to tell them.
- 35:16Speaker 2: Well, you certainly have.
- 35:18Speaker 1: We are up at Dartford this afternoon and on Wednesday afternoon,
- 35:23Speaker 1: the Folks new Victor chairman Josh Healy, who came in
- 35:26Speaker 1: last week, phone me and said, would you like a
- 35:30Speaker 1: Seasider's radio exclusive. The manager, the new manager that was
- 35:35Speaker 1: announced on Monday and mister Jay Saunders from Tunbridge. He's
- 35:39Speaker 1: going to be at the game today and would we
- 35:42Speaker 1: like to give him his first interview live on the
- 35:44Speaker 1: radio before the kickoff.
- 35:46Speaker 3: Wow, sounds like a coup And it's nice to know
- 35:49Speaker 3: that Josh is looking after you and sort of respecting
- 35:52Speaker 3: what you're doing.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I think, Yeah, he was very supportive of us last week.
- 35:56Speaker 1: I know we had a little bit of a technical
- 35:58Speaker 1: problem before we started, me pushing the ron button as always,
- 36:02Speaker 1: but yeah, he's you know, he's taken over the club
- 36:05Speaker 1: and he's pushing the club forward. The new manager, he's
- 36:09Speaker 1: got a four year deal so he's uh. His plan
- 36:13Speaker 1: is to get us out of this league hopefully next
- 36:15Speaker 1: season into the National South where there's going to be
- 36:19Speaker 1: a lot more traveling and a lot more for him,
- 36:22Speaker 1: a lot more of expense. But you know that the
- 36:24Speaker 1: fans of folks and we've have come in their numbers
- 36:26Speaker 1: this season and to be honest, the team hasn't really
- 36:29Speaker 1: performed this season unfortunately. But yeah, he's bringing his backstaff
- 36:34Speaker 1: team from Tunbridge as well, so onwards and upwards and
- 36:38Speaker 1: We're going to be speaking to him, as I say,
- 36:40Speaker 1: before the game this afternoon on Seasideer's Radio.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Brilliant. A good coup for you and for the club,
- 36:46Speaker 3: and I'm sure, excuse me, the supporters we will be
- 36:49Speaker 3: loving it. It's given something to cheer about after a
- 36:51Speaker 3: bit of a die season.
- 36:53Speaker 2: Really.
- 36:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean we are playing top of the league
- 36:55Speaker 1: dart for this afternoon, so I'm not expecting too much,
- 36:58Speaker 1: but I just need to put moments really and you know,
- 37:01Speaker 1: Dartford Old going for the championship to get promoted, so
- 37:04Speaker 1: it's gonna be a tough game.
- 37:05Speaker 3: Yeah right, Okay, Now before we close, I've just got
- 37:08Speaker 3: a bit of netball news. I've got the netball scores
- 37:10Speaker 3: from the second of April, and once again it goes
- 37:13Speaker 3: like this. I mentioned the team, the score, and then
- 37:16Speaker 3: the outstanding player. So we've got Rough Diamonds eighteen Sarah,
- 37:21Speaker 3: Vipers forty seven, viv Ice fifty erin Stingrays fourteen Mayer.
- 37:29Speaker 3: And we've got another high scoring draw. We had one
- 37:31Speaker 3: last week thirty nine, and all this one is Tiger's
- 37:34Speaker 3: twenty seven Hannah and Scorpions twenty seven Lilia. And don't
- 37:38Speaker 3: forget there's an Easter tournament at the Three Hills on Saturday,
- 37:41Speaker 3: April the nineteenth from ten am. It's billed as a
- 37:44Speaker 3: super shot and mixed netball tournament, so the fellas can
- 37:47Speaker 3: join in as well. So anyway, if you want to
- 37:49Speaker 3: find out any more about that, please go to the
- 37:51Speaker 3: Folkston and Netball League of Facebook page and excuse me,
- 37:56Speaker 3: I've got a bit of a tickle in the throat there.
- 38:00Speaker 3: So I just want to say good luck to some
- 38:02Speaker 3: former guests of the show, Martin Chander and his two sisters,
- 38:05Speaker 3: Angie and Kirsty, who on Sunday they're going to run
- 38:08Speaker 3: the London Landmarks half marathon raising money for the Evelina
- 38:11Speaker 3: London Children's charity. And good luck to Ellis Stewart, she
- 38:15Speaker 3: was a guest last year when she run London Marathon.
- 38:17Speaker 3: She's running the London Landmarks. She's running for Pilgrim's Hospices.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Tom Aspinall will be down in Brighton, he's running the
- 38:26Speaker 3: Brighton Marathon there. He's from Folks and running an athletics
- 38:29Speaker 3: club and local club member from Folks and Pam Allen
- 38:33Speaker 3: is actually in Milan. She's running the Milan Marathon, so
- 38:37Speaker 3: good luck to you, all of you. I just want
- 38:40Speaker 3: to give a quick mention to Beach Sprint Regatta is
- 38:43Speaker 3: taking place as we speak. I'm going to go down
- 38:46Speaker 3: there straight from the show. So if you're down on
- 38:48Speaker 3: the sunny Sands having a walk, just have a little
- 38:50Speaker 3: lean over the prom and have a little look and
- 38:53Speaker 3: support them.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Yep, make sure you do that. It's a lovely day.
- 38:56Speaker 1: It's the Grand National this afternoon, keV and I'm going
- 38:59Speaker 1: to give you a little tip. And it's thirty three
- 39:01Speaker 1: to one outside. Yeah, I'm going to stick a quid
- 39:04Speaker 1: on it each way. It's called senior chef. You heard
- 39:07Speaker 1: that here first thirty three to one.
- 39:10Speaker 3: We'll never look at that. Yeah. Me and missus ferret
- 39:12Speaker 3: normally e an afternoon in front of the telly. Actually
- 39:15Speaker 3: we do like a bit of a virtual bit betting.
- 39:17Speaker 3: You know. It's well, it's just great fun, great festival
- 39:20Speaker 3: is so English and long may it continue.
- 39:23Speaker 1: Yeah, four o'clock this afternoon, so I should be doing
- 39:26Speaker 1: my Seasiders radio. Well that game that's on. So if
- 39:30Speaker 1: you hear me cheering half about you know that a
- 39:35Speaker 1: senior chef has come in. Okay, that's the end of
- 39:37Speaker 1: the show this morning. Thanks to keV and we'll be
- 39:41Speaker 1: back next week. Bay Bye.
