- 0:56Dollar Serials, the first of the new thirty minute episode starring Bob Bailey aired
- 1:03so here from November eleventh of nineteen fifty six. It's the big scoop matter
- 1:10from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dollar and Joel mcnap Northeaster. Johnny,
- 1:19Oh, hi, Joe, what's up at the moment? My blood
- 1:21pressure? Too much work, no prospect of having to payoff on a hundred
- 1:26thousand dollars life insurance policy. Oh fella, I think you know Johnny hard
- 1:30Wesley, Oh sure, been a parl of mine for years. Reporter.
- 1:34Yeah, apparently he's working on the story right now that somebody doesn't want him
- 1:38to report. What do you mean? Night before last he got beat up
- 1:41in an alley yesterday car made it pass at him at high speed. What
- 1:44about today it's early at Johnny. Oh yeah, sure, Well let's hope
- 1:49it's not too late. Bob Bailey in the exciting Jews of the Man with
- 2:00the action packed Expense Account America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator. Oh it's truly Johnny
- 2:07Dollar. From Special Investigator Johnny Dollar to the home office Northeast Indemnity Affiliates,
- 2:24Hertford, Connecticut. The following is an accounting of expenditures during my investigation of
- 2:30the Big Scoop matter expense account at a one eighteen dollars and forty cents transportation
- 2:37and incidentals to New York City. I called Art Wesley's paper. He wasn't
- 2:40in and nobody seemed to know where he was. Then I remembered a small
- 2:45bar called Tony's over on Third Avenue. I took a cab that's had him
- 2:47two a dollar and a quarter and found him in a corner booth. Sorry,
- 2:51Johnny, no bodyguard. The informance I'm working with a takeoff fast to
- 2:54the spotted one. No informants, no story, an insurance policy of paper
- 3:00took out on you. Who's the beneficiary? A dear departed wife Joe departed.
- 3:05I split up a couple of months ago. Oh, I'm sorry to
- 3:07hear that we're living in two different worlds. I wanted a home and family.
- 3:12She wanted a trip to the moon every night. Where is she now
- 3:15knows? On her way to the moon. I guess, hey, look
- 3:20this story you're working on, Irony. It's hot, Johnny, and big,
- 3:23real big, a national gambling syndicate and run by a guy right here
- 3:27in New York who I'm getting close, but I'm not sure yet. When
- 3:30I am then outcome my articles? What's this guy gonna do when you're pushing
- 3:34me to a corner. Look, I'm worried about you. Look, Johnny,
- 3:37I'm not as foolish as you think. I've got his name written down
- 3:38and put in a safe deposit box with what evidence I got. That's my
- 3:42real insurance. Alright, Look, we've been friends a long time. I'm
- 3:46not gonna let you do this alone. Sorry, Johnny, I gotta go
- 3:49it alone. Since I've gotten nowhere with irone, I decided to try his
- 4:00wife, john even though they were separated. I found her in an apartment
- 4:03on East sixty eighth, But she was hardly what you'd call cooperative. Look,
- 4:09mister Dowarry, so you're a friend of Arts at the moment, I'm
- 4:12not, missus Wesley. Your marriage with Artist none of my business. But
- 4:17that insurance policy as Paper took out on him is. And incidentally you're still
- 4:21a beneficiary, so he could be in danger. Those articles he's writing,
- 4:27why doesn't he drop it? Oh? Look, you know Art better than
- 4:30that. Then what am I supposed to do about it? That story is
- 4:32his business. How I feel about things is my business. And come to
- 4:36think of it, I can't see that either of those things is your business.
- 4:42It am three a tolerated cam fair the police headquarters in the office of
- 4:45my old friend, Detective Lieutenant Rostelli. Sure, sure, I know about
- 4:48those attempts on Art's life. So I talked to him and got nowhere.
- 4:51He told me the stories about a national gambling synding this morning, told me
- 4:56supposedly the big boss is here in New York. Now, what are you
- 4:58going to do about it? Look, the minute Art it's thinking he's got
- 5:00to hit the jackpad all by himself and lets us in on it. We'll
- 5:02give him all the protection, Lieutenant of Stelly. Yeah, yeah, just
- 5:10a minute, it's for you Johnny's nice Hello Art Wesley, Johnny. They
- 5:15told me at your hotel where to reach you. Anything new. I'm leaving
- 5:17town for a few hours. This could be a Johnny to light, could
- 5:19be the jackpot. Well, listen, let me go with you. Sorry,
- 5:23I gotta go along. It's part of the deal, all right.
- 5:25It could be a trap. I could take care of myself. Colly when
- 5:27I get back, wish me luck. Well wait, alright, alright.
- 5:36I had him for a dollarrady cab to Arts apartment, where I persuaded the
- 5:40manager to let me in. I was looking for anything that would give me
- 5:43a lead. Then near the phone, on a scratch pad, I found
- 5:46where he'd written the word Watika several times. Sure, Lake Watica upstate Art
- 5:50had a lodge there. I had him five twenty five dollars even for a
- 5:55rented car. It was a three hour drive to Lake Watika, which was
- 5:58bad enough. At the top it off, it started to rain and rain
- 6:01hard. When I finally got to the highway turn off, the side road
- 6:10to the lake was a mass of mud. Then I got two quick breaks.
- 6:14It stopped raining, and I spotted the six mile road into watch Place
- 6:19half an hour further on, I saw a light Heart's car was parked at
- 6:29one side, and the front door of the launch is wide open. When
- 6:31I got to it, I saw why Ard was lying in the doorway.
- 6:38Yeah, he was the one who wanted to hit the jackpot. But you
- 6:42can't hit the jackpot with a slug, particularly when that slug is right between
- 6:46your eyes. I drove to the Sheriff's office and reported Sheriff Tompkins and his
- 6:58boys took over, but in the darkness and the month, they can only
- 7:01make a routine check. He asked me to be at the lodge the next
- 7:04morning, so I did. The buddy was right here in the doorway,
- 7:10so yeah, Sheriff, I didn't move it, and Wesley probably got shot
- 7:15when he answered the door by somebody standing out there on the ground because of
- 7:19that bullet hole on the roof. Yeah, right over that shelf, it's
- 7:24stuck with canned goods, sugar, salt, and the like. Apparently he
- 7:28used his place regular Yeah, he used to do some of his writing here.
- 7:30Were you able to determine time of death? Corner says between ten thirty
- 7:35and eleven last night? What time did you about half an hour after the
- 7:40rain stopped. I'd say quarter to twelve, means it was still raining a
- 7:45good half hour after the killing. No wonder we found no tracks. Hey,
- 7:48look, Sheriff, I'd was working on a hot story about a national
- 7:51gambling syndicate. Could be that he found out who the boss was last night
- 7:56the hard way. Oh, then you think the killer was from out of
- 8:01town, maybe New York? Yeah? Yeah, Now where would he stay?
- 8:05Is there a hotel around here, Lake Watika, just outside the village,
- 8:09about six mile from here, Sheriff, I'll check it out. The
- 8:16guests here at the end, mister Dollar, But we have only two who
- 8:20checked in yesterday. It's the off season, of course. Yeah, clerk,
- 8:22who are they? Well, mister Cooper yesterday afternoon and mister Buckley around
- 8:28dark. Huh, they're still here. Mister Cooper's sitting right out there on
- 8:31the terrace. But mister Buckley paid in advance and left quite early this morning.
- 8:35I see. Did Buckley give any reason for stopping here? He said
- 8:39he was a traveling man and didn't like to drive in the ring. Okay,
- 8:45okay, I'd like you to write down a description of him. I'll
- 8:46pick it up on the way out. Oh, I'll be glad do sir.
- 8:56Hi, Oh, good morning, enjoying scenery. Yes, Sadan,
- 9:01won't you sure? Thanks? My name's Dollarryan's Cooper. You just check in.
- 9:09I'll just drop by now. I came yesterday. A pretty up here
- 9:15this time of year, Yes, it certainly is. I really enjoyed places
- 9:18like this in the off season. It's nice change. Too bad the weather
- 9:24hasn't been better. Huh rain storm last night? Oh, I enjoyed that
- 9:28too. You were out in it? Oh no, no, no,
- 9:35I enjoyed it the way the storm should be enjoyed, front of the fireplace
- 9:37in my cottage with a drink and a good book. No, mister dollar,
- 9:41I stayed in last night, and that was that. I picked up
- 9:48the description of the other guests, Buckley from the clerk and gave it the
- 9:52sheriff Tompkins, who got out a bullet. Then I drove back to New
- 9:56York City, turned in my Reddit car and took a cab. That's it.
- 9:58I'm six a dollars seventy own Wesley's apartment. Yes, they notified me
- 10:03this morning about arts death. I don't know what to say. What is
- 10:09there to say? Good question? Missus Wesley. Only he hadn't been so
- 10:13stubborn, If only he'd given up that story about the gambling syndicator whatever it
- 10:18was. Yeah, you were, you figure somebody in the syndicate killed him.
- 10:24Well, of course, missus Wesley. Did you know Art had gone
- 10:28on up to the lodge at Lake Watika? No, mister Dollar, I'm
- 10:35rather tired. One more thing. Did you go out last night? No?
- 10:41It was raining. I stayed here in the apartment all evening, all
- 10:46evening. I see, well, thanks, missus Wesley. Maybe I was
- 10:54imagining, but it seemed to me. John Wesley hesitated just a little before
- 10:58telling me she hadn't been out her apartment last night, and if she had
- 11:01gone to Lake Watika. I checked the basement garage. Her car was clean,
- 11:07too clean. I had them seven five dollars to the garage attendant for
- 11:09some very interesting information. John Wesley had ordered her car washed first thing this
- 11:15morning. Why because the wheels were covered with mud from last night. Act
- 11:37two of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar. In just a moment, better
- 11:41schools mean better citizens, better neighbors, better families. But we can't expect
- 11:46our children to respond, to learn and grow if we ourselves are indifferent to
- 11:50their school environment. CBS Radio urges that you write to Better Schools nine East
- 11:56fortieth Street, New York sixteenth, New York for information about how citizens can
- 12:01spark community action to improve their schools. That address, again is Better Schools,
- 12:05nine East fortieth Street, New York sixteen, New York. Now,
- 12:11Act two of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar and the Big Scoop matter.
- 12:22I tell you I didn't leave this apartment last night. Your car says differently,
- 12:26Joan. You had it washed today because it was all muddy. And
- 12:28the reason it was muddy was because you had it out in the rain last
- 12:31night. Another thing, You told me you didn't know Art had gone to
- 12:35the lodge. You hadn't heard from him, But the switchboard operator told me
- 12:39you had a call from him yesterday. Now, why else would he call
- 12:43you except to tell you where he was going? Well, how about it,
- 12:46Joan? All right, Art did call me yesterday and told me he
- 12:52was going to Lake Watka. And how about last night? Yes, I
- 12:56went out, but not to Lake Watika. Art wouldn't give you a divorce
- 12:58by killing him. That's your freedom. In a hundred thousand bucks, I
- 13:01didn't kill Art. I didn't go up there last night. And where did
- 13:03you go? Might as well know the reason I wanted a divorce from Art
- 13:11was because I found someone else. Oh that's where I went for a few
- 13:16minutes last evening. Why did you lie about the phone call from Art yesterday?
- 13:20Oh? No, I don't know. I was confused. I was.
- 13:24I was afraid it would look bad for me if it came out that
- 13:26I knew I had gone up there. It doesn't look good for you this
- 13:28way. Believe me, Johnny, I'm telling the truth. Oh is this
- 13:31fellow you're interested in? I don't see why he was. His name is
- 13:35Ted Nash. You have to talk to him. I sure will, and
- 13:41right now. But I was wrong about talking to Ted Nash right now.
- 13:48I called his apartment and got no answer. I'd a'm nine hundred dollars sixty
- 13:52care for the police headquarters in the office of Detective Lieutenant Rostellio. You forget
- 13:56this guy. Nash and Joan Wesley could have killed Art and use a gambling
- 14:01syndicate thread as a cover. It's a possibility, Lieutenant. Well, I'll
- 14:03see what I can find out about Nash. How'd you do it? Lake
- 14:07Patika. Two guests checked in the day of the killing. One a man
- 14:09named Buckley. He left early this morning. Sheriff Tompkins has a pullet nod
- 14:13on him. A fellow named Cooper who apparently likes to go places in the
- 14:18off season. Nothing to tie him in, Particularly Cooper. I had to
- 14:22rumble some time ago that a guy named Cooper was involved in that gambling Sentia
- 14:26troubles. We got no proof. Hey, wait a minute, what's the
- 14:30matter. I told me he'd put the name of the man he was after
- 14:33in a safe deposit box. If we could find the key to that box,
- 14:37how about arts apartment. Let's take a look. So we looked,
- 14:43and we found the key tucked away in the disk, but only a number
- 14:46on it, nothing to tell where it was located. I gave it to
- 14:50Lieutenant Estelle, and he promised to check every bank in town if necessary,
- 14:54while I went on back to Lake Watika to see if the man named Cooper
- 14:56at the end was the same one Rostelly told me about. Got there after
- 15:00a frantay three hour drive. I found him comfortably sitting by the fireplace.
- 15:05Oh, mister dollar, isn't it Yeah, Yeah, that's right. Cooper,
- 15:11I'm going to get right to the points. You told me you came
- 15:16up here to enjoy the scenery. Yes, that's fine. Why the man
- 15:20who was killed last night, I'd Wesley. He was trying to expose a
- 15:24national gambling syndicate. Oh that's very interesting. So so I know a police
- 15:30detective in New York who thinks you're a member of that syndicate. Mister Dollar,
- 15:35that's very serious charge. I presume you have proof? Well, no
- 15:43proof. Well, in that case, I don't think there's anywhere long distance
- 15:48call for you. You can take it on that phone right beside you.
- 15:50Thanks, clerk, Johnny Dollar in New York. Johnny, my lieutenant,
- 15:56you locate that, Yeah, the same deposit box, and we found the
- 16:00name of the man Art Wesley was closing in on. It's cold. Thanks
- 16:03very much. Well, Cooper, you want a proof, We've got it.
- 16:07Evidence that ties you in with the syndicate. Clerk, Well, this
- 16:10is ridiculous. Let me tell you the facts about this thing. Is something
- 16:14the matter? Mister You get Sheriff Tompkins on the phone, Clerk, tell
- 16:17him I've got Art Wesley's killer here, you mean, mister Cooper. Oh
- 16:19wait a minute, Now, look, Dollar, if you'd get your facts
- 16:22straight, you drop this silly notion of yours. What kind of facts?
- 16:26Cooper? What time was Wesley killed? Between ten thirty and eleven last night?
- 16:30But mister Dollar, mister Wesley's place is some six miles from here,
- 16:34that's right? Why, well, then, mister Cooper couldn't have killed him?
- 16:38What do you mean last night? I took a drink to mister Cooper's
- 16:41cottage here at the inn. What time around twenty to eleven? And I
- 16:47chatted with him for at least fifteen minutes. Are you sure about that?
- 16:52Oh? Quite sure? Well, mister Dollar, I'll buy your drink.
- 17:00Some Coopers strolled back to the bar with a satisfied smirk on his face.
- 17:07So the one man who had to be Art's killer couldn't have killed him.
- 17:12I called the clerk again and had him repeat his story in detail. If
- 17:17you recall it rained heavily last night, mister Dollar, Yes, yes,
- 17:19I drove through it on my way up here. Well, I was making
- 17:22the rounds of the inn, checking windows things like that. When the house
- 17:26phone rang. It was mister Cooper calling from his cottage. He wanted to
- 17:30drink. You say that was a twenty to eleven. Yes, I always
- 17:33jot down the time when I am called away from the desk, All right,
- 17:37go on, go on. Well, when I got to miss Cooper's
- 17:38cottage, he was sitting in the living room in front of the fire with
- 17:41the book. We chatted a while, and then when I returned here to
- 17:45the desk, I jotted down the time again, ten fifty five. Well
- 17:52that doesn't what do you mean, Oh, it's a good twenty minute drive
- 17:57from here to art Wesley's lodge. If he was killed between ten thirty and
- 18:02eleven and Cooper was here at that time, he couldn't have done it.
- 18:07Well, I'm sorry, but the facts are facts. Oh excuse me,
- 18:14Lake what he gets in? Yes, just a moment, Cheff Tompkins,
- 18:19mister donnad Oh thanks, Hi, sheriff. Thought you ought to know son.
- 18:23Remember that man Buckley we were looking forward? Yeah, sure, the
- 18:26other guest at the end. We picked him up. I've been questioning him
- 18:30for now any luck, No, sir, he's just a traveling salesman who
- 18:33stayed at the inn because he didn't want to drive in the rain. You
- 18:37sure. Buckley swears he doesn't even know Cooper just between you and me,
- 18:42Johnny, I think we got the wrong fellow. No place again. I
- 18:49decided to start all over, got into my car and drove to Ard Wesley's
- 18:52place. Nothing was changed. I remember the trip I'd made the night he
- 18:57was killed. How would rain until about half an hour before I arrived.
- 19:03How I'd found him lying in the open doorway, a bullet hole in his
- 19:04head. Yeah, and the hole in the ceiling over the shelf of provisions
- 19:08marking the path of the bullets. It was there, So were the provisions.
- 19:12Canned food, mustard, sugar, package of crackers. There was some
- 19:18wait a minute, sugar the sugar bowl. I stared at it for a
- 19:25moment. I remembered a couple of things the room clerk at the inn had
- 19:29told me, and suddenly the whole deal slid neatly and quietly into place.
- 19:36I drove back to the inn fast. Cooper's cottage was empty, so I
- 19:40went inside to the bedroom and took a look around. Then I spotted one
- 19:42of the pictures on the wall, a little out of place. I looked
- 19:45behind it. Yeah, just what I expected. Outside, I found Cooper
- 19:52sitting on the terrace in front of the main building, I slid into a
- 19:55chair across from Wow, mister Dollar, what fantastic crime you're going to accuse
- 20:00me of today, Cooper, I got a one track mine and it's still
- 20:04stuck on murder. Oh oh, look, Dollar, We've been over this
- 20:07before, and personally I find it quite boring, so much so that it's
- 20:11interfering with my vacation here. That's too bad, Yes it is, so
- 20:15I'm leaving this evening. I don't think so, Cooper. Oh, come
- 20:18now, i'd Wesley was trying to expose a figure and a gambling syndicate.
- 20:22You, that's a matter of conjecture. You had to stop him for keeps.
- 20:26Oh look Dollar, the time of Art Wesley's death has been established is
- 20:30between ten thirty and eleven last night. That's right between ten thirty and eleven
- 20:34last night. And I'm sure you remember the room clerk telling you he was
- 20:37with me in my cottage living room from ten forty to ten fifty five.
- 20:41Sure do so that I certainly couldn't have killed your friend Wesley six miles from
- 20:45here during that time, except that Art Wesley wasn't killed at his lodge.
- 20:49What are you talking? You see? I remembered something else. The clerk
- 20:52had told me the night of the killing had stopped raining a little after eleven.
- 20:56All right, what difference does that make? All the difference in the
- 20:59world will even Here's what really happened, Cooper. You killed out Wesley in
- 21:03the bedroom of your cottage here at the Inn Auto. You immediately called the
- 21:07room clerk over and chatted with him in your living room for about fifteen minutes.
- 21:10He didn't know those a corpse in the next room. After he left,
- 21:12you took Wesley's body the six miles to his place and planted it in
- 21:15the doorway. And now, look, problem was to make it look like
- 21:18he'd been killed there. Then you remembered the slug that had killed him hit
- 21:23the wall in your bedroom. That gave you an idea. You figured out
- 21:27the right angle at the lodge and fired a shot upwards from the outside the
- 21:30door. It went through the ceiling at the back. I tell her I'd
- 21:33had enough of your half baked theories with no proof whatsoever to back them up.
- 21:37Correction, Cooper, this time, I've got proof. There was a
- 21:41shelf of food under the bullet hole, and a bowl of sugar directly under
- 21:44it. A bullet so what when sugar gets wet, it gets crusty,
- 21:48and it stays that way. But the sugar in that bowl was dry.
- 21:52Now, if the killing was between ten thirty and eleven, and it rained
- 21:56heavily until after eleven, then some rain would have dropped through the bullet hole
- 22:00into the sugar. I see. But Cooper, the sugar was dry,
- 22:04So the bullet hole was made after the time of the murder when you planted
- 22:08Wesley's body. There just a little detail, Cooper, but it nails you
- 22:14that And of course the fact I found the slug that really killed Wesley just
- 22:17a couple of minutes ago, buried in the wall of your bedroom behind a
- 22:19picture you'd move slightly to cover it, Ol'donllar. I may as well tell
- 22:25you that I saw you come out of my cottage a few minutes ago.
- 22:29I figured you knew. So Ever, since you sat down here, I've
- 22:32been holding a gun on you under the table, you know, Cooper,
- 22:37I may as well tell you, ever since I sat down here, I've
- 22:41been holding a gun on YouTube. Have it were you? You didn't have
- 22:51any gun, big time gambler bluffed right out of the game, Cooper,
- 22:55you're slipping Adam ten thirty seven to fifty transportation and incidentals back to Hartford expense
- 23:11account total one hundred and eighty seven dollars and forty cents. Remarks Cooper's a
- 23:15waiting trial by right Wesley Well. I guess that sugar Bowl was a dead
- 23:22man's revenge. Come to think of it, that revenge is pretty sweet.

- 24:51truly Johnny Dollar damn coverly speaking three Welcome back Well. Johnny's daring bluff was
- 26:06a nice touch in this episode. In some ways, this debut from the
- 26:11for the thirty minute series seemed in many ways to be a bit rush to
- 26:17to have some writing problems. The vague one that stands out is that the
- 26:22name in the safe deposit box doesn't come up till the middle of the story.
- 26:26I do have to wonder a little bit about this episode. First of
- 26:30all, I wonder how much notice they got that they were changing the format.
- 26:36Typically they tried to have these Johnny Dollar episodes in the can about well,
- 26:41I don't know if that's the appropriate term for radio, but to have
- 26:44them recorded three weeks in advance we've all if you've listened to radio for any
- 26:49time, you've heard episodes where the star is sick and not available to play,
- 26:55And that even happened on Bob Bailey's other show, Let George Do It
- 26:59a Transfer. Well, in advance you avoid that, but I wonder when
- 27:03they learned about the change. And also another thing is that the episode is
- 27:10significantly shorter than next three episodes. And this was the network version with credits
- 27:17and public service announcements. This came in at twenty four minutes and fifty one
- 27:22seconds. Well, the next four episodes all came in at close to thirty
- 27:26minutes, which suggests that a couple of possibilities. One that there might have
- 27:32been something that was broadcast that required shortening the show, or if sufficient notice
- 27:41hadn't been given, it may have been just to have less time in the
- 27:44show so they could do a shorter script. Mostly, I think the show
- 27:48works. The sugar Bowl thing I think is pretty clever as an ending.
- 27:51I love that we got to hear Larry thorguest star Larry Thor of course Broadway
- 27:56is my beat, which we'll hear one of these days. And Maul Bailey
- 28:02is still fun to listen to, but I think they'll definitely be better stories
- 28:06in this thirty minute run. All right, Well, on to some listener
- 28:08comments and feedback. Actually, this first one I'll start with because it ties
- 28:15into something I'm going to announce show related. David Gray tweets and spent time
- 28:22in New Orleans today with Johnny Dowler courtesy of AT Radio Detectives. Well,
- 28:27I'm glad you enjoyed listening to us in New Orleans. The promo for this
- 28:33episode indicated that next week's show was going to be in New Orleans. In
- 28:37reality, it wasn't the show that came next week. The Mark Matter was
- 28:41actually in San Francisco. However, we're going to actually hold off on playing
- 28:48The Mark Matter tell Thanksgiving time, because it's got a very nice little Thanksgiving
- 28:56message in it and probably more appropriate to that season of the year. So
- 29:00we'll skip that episode for now and come back to it next week. You'll
- 29:03hear the Royal Street Matter, which is one of the few Johnny dollars after
- 29:11the end of the fifteen minute episodes that I've listened to, and I have
- 29:15pretty good memory that it was a very strong episode. So and no,
- 29:19we need to worry we will get to the mark matter in November. Many
- 29:23listeners have commented on the of the Johnny Dollar serials, start with this one
- 29:32from hobbyer Neardrid in Spain, who says, I've been enjoying Johnny Dollar since
- 29:41the beginning. It has always been one of my favorite shows. I never
- 29:44understood why people kept asking about when the five part series were going to start,
- 29:48as I thought the thirty minute one part shows were excellent. Now that
- 29:52I've been listening to the five part shows, I understand they are so much
- 29:55better. The extra time really let's the character and the story develop further,
- 29:59and I've been enjoying them immensely. I also really hate how in other shows
- 30:04that they recrap what has happened in previous episodes, as it always seemed artificial
- 30:11and clumsy. But in the Johnny Dollar episodes, this is not the case,
- 30:14and I find myself thinking how seamless and how natural it seems. Thanks
- 30:21for bringing these episodes to life again. Oh, You're welcome, and I
- 30:25would definitely agree that usually. You know, there are probably a few cases
- 30:30I've called out where it kind of seemed a little forced, but those were
- 30:33very rare. I think that compared to say The Adventures of Superman. They
- 30:40really do did a good job on the way they wrote those, and Jay
- 30:48writes in from Ben Orgon says, HadAM, I've been listening to your podcast
- 30:52for a few years. I'm sad to see Johnny Dollar coming to an end.
- 30:56If I'm ever in Boise, I feel I owe you dinner for all
- 30:59your hard work. And yes, you can order anything you want. Keep
- 31:02it up well. Thanks so much. Jay. I'm reminded about of the
- 31:06line of Han Solo about having a very large imagination. I'm in Star Wars,
- 31:12but in all seriousness, I tend to actually order pretty light when I
- 31:17know someone else is paying the bill. Not that I'm angling for any invitations,
- 31:21but thanks so much. I appreciate your comments. And then we also
- 31:25have this from Dan who says, it feels like, Dear Adam, it
- 31:29feels like Labor Day. You know that feeling at the end of the summer
- 31:33on Labor Day when you're sat summer is over. That's how I feel as
- 31:37the Johnny Dollar episodes come to an end. I'm melick Collie as my summer
- 31:42phase. I cannot enjoy this last episode because I know this is the end
- 31:45of something good, and I can understand the feeling. It's all. It's
- 31:52definitely bittersweet getting to the end of that. I think that, you know,
- 32:00I tried to enjoy it, you know, for the last time for
- 32:04a while. Anyway, you know, I think I'll definitely listen to the
- 32:08series again, whether it's on my own or whether it's hosted on a podcast,
- 32:15because it really was, you know, that good. On the bright
- 32:19side, there are a lot of people who have loved Bob Bailey's Johnny Dollars
- 32:22without even hearing the fifteen minute episodes. So there's some solid, great acting
- 32:28that sustained this series for four plus more years. So and it'll probably be
- 32:34easier to enjoy, you know, later down the road, particularly when the
- 32:37scripts get better. He also concludes with an oh, p asked Pat Novak's
- 32:40one liners are priceless. Indeed they are all right. Well, that will
- 32:45do it for today. We'll be back tomorrow with Police Headquarters, and then
- 32:51join us next Friday for another episode of Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar. In
- 32:55the meantime, send your comments to Box thirteen at Great Detectors, follow us
