- 0:06I j felon here and you're listening to the slippery slope.
- 0:11So unless you've been hiding under a rock here in Australia,
- 0:14you would probably have heard about the NRL world, the
- 0:19National Rugby League Division, okay?
- 0:22Over the decision by some manly, football players mainly rugby
- 0:27league players to not play. Play rugby league this weekend
- 0:32because of the club's decision to add the pride rainbow colors
- 0:37to the Jersey. Not sure why they did it.
- 0:40But anyway here we go. I read this headline here from
- 0:43Yahoo sports is NRL World divided over disgraceful manly
- 0:48Pride the Jersey Funeral it's written by Andrew read.
- 0:52So it goes on to say that mainly decision to become the first
- 0:55Club in NRL history to compete. In a pride, Jersey has left the
- 1:00club in turmoil with up to 7, players set to boycott their
- 1:03next match in protest. The sea eagles are expected to
- 1:07confirm on Tuesday that up to seven players will miss
- 1:10Thursday's match with the Sydney roosters.
- 1:13After refusing to play in the Jersey due to the cultural or
- 1:17religious beliefs mainly announced on Sunday night.
- 1:21They Would wear a rainbow design for the match.
- 1:24Generally known for representing the LBGTQ.
- 1:28I wouldn't that Community by Monday night.
- 1:31The Jersey had sold out on the club's online store in all men's
- 1:36and women's sizes with only Junior versions of the strip
- 1:39available, while it's proven a hit with many supporters, the
- 1:43decision to wear. The Jersey has caused unrest.
- 1:46Among several players, who also claimed, they only learned of
- 1:50the strip on social media on Sunday night.
- 1:52And we're not previously consulted to among the concerns
- 1:56for select players is uneasy questions that will arise within
- 2:00their culture or religion from wearing the Jersey.
- 2:03The issue prompted a lengthy meeting of sea eagles Management
- 2:07on Monday night where it was again, requested that players
- 2:10where the everyone in League design.
- 2:13However, players have not agreed to do so, with up to seven set
- 2:17to sit out the match against the roosters.
- 2:20Ian Roberts, who came the first rugby league player to come out
- 2:24as gay while playing for merely, in 1995 said, the player Revolt
- 2:30in quotes breaks my heart. So, the former kangaroo and sea
- 2:35eagles, start old Sidney, Daily Telegraph.
- 2:38It's sad and uncomfortable as an older gay, man.
- 2:42This isn't unfamiliar. I did wonder whether there would
- 2:45be any religious push, push back.
- 2:47That's why I think the end of the NRL have never had a
- 2:51problem. I drowned, I can promise you
- 2:54every young kid on the Northern beaches who is dealing with
- 2:57their sexuality, would have heard about this.
- 3:01So the drama has caused an enormous stir throughout the
- 3:05footy world, but NRL 360 co-host, pull all can't said it
- 3:11was the manly's clubs fault for not Consulting players first
- 3:15before making the decision to wear the pride Jersey.
- 3:18So the mainly Club did this without any consultation.
- 3:21One of the players they did it without any board approval.
- 3:25It's basically a marketing decision and they've just
- 3:28assumed everything was okay. And said on Monday night, the
- 3:32club has imposed its own put Politics on these players and
- 3:36these players have inadvertently been embroiled in this Scandal,
- 3:40and they will be hopefully protected, but they will also be
- 3:43under pressure. Now through no fault of their
- 3:47own and in another article, which is from the ABC News.
- 3:50This headline, says Mia, See Eagles coach apologizes for
- 3:54handling of Gay Pride, jerseys as seven refused to play.
- 3:58And the coach does hasla has said that he's concerned for the
- 4:01welfare of these seven players because their spirituality is a
- 4:04central part of their well-being.
- 4:07And the club has made an error from which it will learn.
- 4:11Has also specifically apologize to the lgbtqia+ community.
- 4:17He says that we wish to apologize to the community who
- 4:20embrace the Rainbow colors. Who use these colors for pride
- 4:26and advocacy and human rights issues.
- 4:28He said now a just briefly my thoughts on this whole pride and
- 4:33using rainbow colors for starters.
- 4:35When I was growing up, you always learned that there was
- 4:37seven colors in the rainbow and if you look at the rainbow there
- 4:41are generally yet seven colors. When are you looking at the
- 4:44rainbow in the sky 7, seven colors, seven also the number of
- 4:50for God Then gotta believe it is in the Bible.
- 4:54Seven is the number of God funny enough.
- 4:58Pride pride, besides the fact that pride in the Bible is, is
- 5:03taught as pride, is a sin pride is what caused the downfall of
- 5:08Lucifer AKA Satan. The pride flag that is used by
- 5:13the pride group has six colors. Six being the number of man.
- 5:20Just a little, just a little thought.
- 5:22Anyway, I'll continue on with this.
- 5:24So again, Ian Roberts, the, the gay football who came out from
- 5:30manly, he said that it was wonderful because would the club
- 5:33would still wear the pride Jersey this week and that he had
- 5:37been consulted. So he had been consulted the
- 5:40players hadn't been but he had been consulted about the plan,
- 5:43several weeks ago, isn't that weird that he gets consulted
- 5:47even though he's a former player and he hasn't played A longtime
- 5:51former flag is consulted. However, the current players
- 5:55they don't get consulted at all. Anyway, he goes on to say that
- 5:58this is the kind of I came out at the reason I came out of this
- 6:03club was because I felt safe. So Robert said that, he was
- 6:08surprised there, not being any public pushback for this week,
- 6:12which he now attributes to a lack of consultation with in the
- 6:15club he says, this is probably not the way we wanted this.
- 6:20Conversation to start. But we're having this
- 6:23conversation now he said, so I'm seeing it in a positive light.
- 6:28The former forward who has long lobbied the NRL which is the
- 6:32National Rugby League League National Rugby League for a
- 6:35scheduled Pride round. I don't understand why they have
- 6:39to have a specific pride round. Everyone, anyway, I'll go on
- 6:44said, he fully respects the seven players decisions.
- 6:47Not to wear the Jersey, but He added, he would love the
- 6:52opportunity to explain to them what a pride round would mean to
- 6:57the lgbtqia+ community Roberts also rejected.
- 7:02The idea that Sports should not involve itself in social issues
- 7:07Sports. Always been political he said,
- 7:09Sports part of society and Society is political.
- 7:12So this conversation needs to be had I'll just say this is part
- 7:18of the issue. We always did.
- 7:20I'm told by people within the LGBT community that it's a
- 7:25conversation that needs to be had and apparently, they need to
- 7:29come out publicly and tell everyone what their preference
- 7:34is for sexual gratification. That's it's something that needs
- 7:38to happen. It's not something that you can
- 7:40just deal with privately it needs to happen and we need to
- 7:43talk about it. We need to tell everyone about,
- 7:46we need to display our prideful Behavior.
- 7:50Everyone to see. So the Australian rugby league
- 7:52commission. Chairman Peter landy's as said
- 7:57he respect the decision of the seven boycotting players.
- 8:00He says that they've got religious and cultural
- 8:02differences. And that's the beauty of
- 8:04Australia. We all have those freedoms.
- 8:06We said, but let me say this though.
- 8:09One thing I take pride in with rugby league, is that we treat
- 8:12everyone the same. We're all human beings, it
- 8:15doesn't matter what your color is, what your sexual orientation
- 8:18is, doesn't matter. What your race is were all equal
- 8:22mr. Landers said the club should
- 8:25have shown more respect to the players and not sprung.
- 8:28The Pride Jersey on them. So not-for-profit pride in sport
- 8:32which supports Australian sporting organizations said
- 8:37initiatives. Such as Pride, rounds were
- 8:40powerful statements to players these things matter because we
- 8:44know that lgbtq+ people have concerns about coming out its it
- 8:49in All sports including rugby league.
- 8:52Participants can be heavily censored or can heavily censor
- 8:55themselves, over fears of being outed resulting in detrimental,
- 8:59impacts on mental, and physical health says that we know or that
- 9:04these concerns can prevent lgbtq+ people from participating
- 9:08in sports at all levels from Community to professional the
- 9:12Australian Christian Lobby. This afternoon said it was
- 9:16important that we respect, everyone for who they are.
- 9:20ACL managing director, Martin Isles at ACL, is a strong
- 9:24Christian Lobby. He is said the inclusive.
- 9:27Society is one that respects people's conscience and
- 9:31convictions. It is not inclusive to for
- 9:35someone to wear a political state symbol.
- 9:38In fact, it's totally exclusive. So for starters, I'll go to say,
- 9:44what the Australian Christian Lobby is saying that I owe you
- 9:48would fully fully. Support.
- 9:51This is the problem with having these Pride rounds in these
- 9:53symbols and using it in sport. It is not inclusive what they
- 9:59want to. What they are trying to do is
- 10:03put everyone in this box saying. Well, if we can have this Pride
- 10:07ran rainbow this Pride symbol, we are being inclusive to this
- 10:13one, specific group and then they forget or they don't care.
- 10:17To be honest. That there may be another group.
- 10:20That does not agree with what this symbol represents.
- 10:24The more, this conversation goes on, the more religion, the more
- 10:28spiritual beliefs are pushed to the background.
- 10:33I pushed aside and said, well, if this is what you believe, you
- 10:36are teaching homophobia, transphobia.
- 10:39All all the, the, you know, plethora of phobias that are
- 10:42apparently out there. Now, even though this is not a
- 10:45real thing, but this is the problem we are promoting
- 10:50Exclusion and not inclusive behavior in sport.
- 10:54You don't have to come out and announce what your sexual
- 11:00flipping preference is this push to accept the pride symbolism.
- 11:06The lgbtqia+ symbolism, no matter what your beliefs, it
- 11:12will continue to be rammed down our throats.
- 11:15No matter what we believe, the more this conversation She's
- 11:20alone. The mole.
- 11:22We will be told that your religious beliefs, your
- 11:25spiritual beliefs, your biblical, beliefs, do not
- 11:28matter. And what you are teaching is
- 11:31actually, you know, homophobic, transphobic, all those kinds of
- 11:34things. But this is the slippery slope
- 11:38that the lgbtq agenda has taken us on their agenda is, you must
- 11:44accept it. And there is nothing you can do
- 11:46about it. I'll just remind you that just
- 11:48one. Just one thing that the Bible
- 11:50says about Pride, Proverbs 16 Verse 18.
- 11:54It says Pride goes before destruction and a haughty spirit
- 12:00before a fall. And unfortunately you Embrace
- 12:03Pride you're going to be embracing destruction.
- 12:07That is my opinion. Thank you for listening to the
- 12:10slippery slope.
