ART THEFT: Green Vault Dresden
In November 2019, thieves broke into the Grünes Gewölbe museum inside the Dresden Residenzschloss and stole 21 jewelled objects from the 18th-century Saxon treasury in a meticulously planned pre-dawn raid. Five defendants were convicted in January 2024 after a plea deal led to the partial return of pieces, but several irreplaceable baroque jewels remain missing and the full extent of the operation is still unknown.
