- 2:09Do we have a date yet for the invasion?
- 2:11Shop? 3 days and 61 hours from now.
- 2:15This is the largest seaborne invasion in history.
- 2:19Fate of the war. Thousands of lives hinge on
- 2:23this. I need a forecast.

- 2:33Invasions confirmed from Monday, Monday, Monday.
- 2:38They won't like this. We are faced with a succession
- 2:41of two aggressive storms. Are you absolutely certain D-Day
- 2:45will be calm and sunny? I couldn't disagree with that
- 2:48more. If D-Day is cancelled, we will
- 2:56lose this war. The final decision on the timing
- 3:02of D-Day will be mine and mine alone.
- 3:06If you invade tomorrow, they're going to be washed away. 300,000
- 3:12men with families that they may never see again.
- 3:17Why should I trust? You.
- 3:19We must face the facts, the facts, however frightening they
- 3:23may be. If we delay, the enemy will be
- 3:30ready and waiting. They'll slaughter every single
- 3:32last one of us. are real, and the wrath of
- 3:48nature is real. Monotony.
- 4:20It comes in all shapes and sizes.
- 4:22Dull, tedious. Just plain.
- 4:26Boring. But what is this?
- 4:29A contender perhaps? Something UN boring by the looks
- 4:33of it. Jabs right at dull and uppercut
- 4:36the tedium. Something that keeps you on your
- 4:38toes, keeps your head on a swivel.
- 4:41A knockout punch to your old boring workouts.
- 4:47Welcome to fight camp. Am I under arrest?
- 5:01You've assaulted an innocent man in front of his wife and baby
- 5:05groom. Do you remember any of that?
- 5:08Does the. Defendant have any priors?
- 5:10Resisting arrest. DUI assault.
- 5:13Hey. My client has been awarded.
- 5:15A Purple Heart and a bronze. Star medal for his.
- 5:17Combat Service. I'm ordering you to undergo a.
- 5:1960 day outpatient rehabilitation program good luck.
- 5:26No I'm not doing that. Do you know what the VA S put me
- 5:29through? If you have a brain in your
- 5:30head, you're. Going to listen?
- 5:31To me right now, because the next time you try to provoke a
- 5:33lethal response from law. Enforcement.
- 5:34You might not. Have an.
- 5:35Angel sitting on your. Shoulder The courts think that
- 5:37you're going to fix me. I hate to disappoint you, but I
- 5:40can't fix you. That's your job, not mine.
- 5:44Did you know that your father got out?
- 5:46He's a dangerous man. Calvin, be careful.
- 5:49We came back and they spat on us at the airport.
- 5:52No home calling parade, no celebrations.
- 5:55You can't pretend like you have any idea what it's like to be in
- 5:59combat. No.
- 6:00But what I do know is this field of work that I've dedicated my
- 6:04life to has helped a lot of people.
- 6:06When you got back, something was different.
- 6:09It wasn't that you'd changed. You've been replaced.
- 6:16You lose your morality when you go to war, and the hard part is
- 6:19coming back to a civilian society that doesn't have any
- 6:23idea what's going on in your head.
- 6:25It's hard to believe. My enemy, he's the.
- 6:29Man, I used. To.
- 6:31Be I bet you wonder where's my tribe?
- 6:33And I ain't talking about no friendship neither.
- 6:35I'm talking about brotherhood. What is it that you truly want,
- 6:42Calvin? I just want to wake up in the
- 6:44morning and feel something. My pain is relative, son.
- 6:50Sometimes we got to fall apart to find ourselves all over
- 6:54again. You are willing to give your
- 7:02life for your country now. Maybe you can try living for it.
- 7:11What are you feeding this guy? Look like that.
- 7:13What do you want? I did 4 tours of The Cheesecake
- 7:16Factory. OK, Little spicy, little spicy.

- 9:13Hey, it's Trust OM Radio out here at the Veterans Expo
- 9:17Brockton VA, and I think I'm going to try to do this as #499
- 9:21I've I've gotten really inspired today and I'll show you why.
- 9:24Let's do it. Look at all these people.
- 9:29This is just loaded in right now and I'm going to be able to get
- 9:34some drone shots today. I've got my complete mobile rig
- 9:38right here. It's going to be awesome.
- 9:41So what I hope to do is to get my zoom and my Sony taking a
- 9:46video of people talking while talking with them and then
- 9:49interlace it with some cool drone shots.
- 9:50Permission flight. Hey, it's trust Austin Mike
- 9:55radio. Welcome to #499 I want to start
- 10:00by thanking my sponsors, TNT, Pin Company, and outright dot AI
- 10:05slash lead spot. You all have been an inspiration
- 10:10to me coming into this final episode.
- 10:13Before we roll over to Year 10, I want to thank my supporters,
- 10:16Caisson Shaving Company, Exceptional Parent Magazine, and
- 10:20Fight Camp. Be your Strongest Combination
- 10:24499 Originally supposed to go a different way, but I'm glad it
- 10:27worked out this way. I'm at the Brockton VA for the
- 10:29Veterans Expo and I'm going to do live in person like
- 10:34interviews at the different tables and stuff.
- 10:37I'm going to get some drone footage and just have a good
- 10:40time and what do you mean by drone footage?
- 10:43Let me show you I got permission.
- 10:46I got permission. Always ask when you're flying a
- 10:49drone. This is the 00 robotics.
- 10:55You know drone, the copter Falcon so many, so it didn't
- 11:02quite go the way I wanted to for number 499, but this is going to
- 11:06test me technically it's going to introduce me to a lot of
- 11:08people. I want to thank David hankey
- 11:10from the VA for having me out and everything is just going
- 11:13great so far. So this is going to be a
- 11:16different kind of show. All this live, not in a zoom
- 11:19stream yard, one stream restream stuff.
- 11:22We are on location on site on mission all the time.
- 11:28We are OM. So I'm getting this prepped ray
- 11:47to fly. This is the 00 robotics Falcon
- 11:52mini copter here, 249 grams, so I don't need to have all the FAA
- 12:00regulations and forced, but I cannot be anywhere near the the
- 12:06people over there. Understandable.
- 12:08It's not prep for that. So what I'm going to do is I'm
- 12:11going to be here and get a shot and I'll go up to like 200,
- 12:15maybe 400 feet, get a nice action shot of the crowd and
- 12:19we'll get this going remission flight.
- 12:29Why the drone? Why am I bringing the drone more
- 12:34into OM Radio and what I'm doing?
- 12:39I think it's just another tool, but it's not under the tool.
- 12:46It's another tool in that, OK, aerial shots are part of stories
- 12:52and movies and film and documentaries, and I don't have
- 12:56the money to pay a pilot to fly a helicopter and do that kind of
- 13:01filming. I just don't.
- 13:04It's just not there for me. And I think in this case, if you
- 13:12watch this clip, it looks like from, you know, 300 feet up that
- 13:17there's not a lot of people there.
- 13:19There's not a lot going on. And I couldn't get close for FAA
- 13:24reasons. But The thing is, when I packed
- 13:26everything up and went there close up, there's tons of
- 13:31conversations going on, people meeting each other, people
- 13:36networking, learning, sharing, laughing, listening to music,
- 13:42eating and the VA snacks, by the way, are on point.
- 13:47Their snack selection was fantastic.
- 13:50Sorry to throw that in there. But the point is the drone is
- 13:56going to allow me to show different perspectives and
- 14:00eventually really be incorporated with, you know, a
- 14:04lot, if not all of the things I do when I create these stories,
- 14:10when I can go outside the studio.
- 14:13It's a big learning curve. I don't know a lot, but I'm
- 14:16liking the process. And this is just the the
- 14:20surface, the the intro to where I want to go with this.
- 14:24We are literally mission flight. Love my small rig.
- 14:27This is light, easy to use, multiple hookup points, very
- 14:33stable in graphs or on concrete. Thank you outright dot AI.
- 14:46Yeah. Hi, I'm Travis with OM Radio at
- 14:49the Brockton VA Expo, and I'm with Alicia from Abernathy Home
- 14:52Care. Alicia, welcome to OM Radio.
- 14:55Hi, thank you so much for having me SO.
- 14:57What's more with feeling? What is Abernathy Home Care?
- 15:01So Abernathy Home Care is a home care service.
- 15:05We're based out of Stoneham, MA and we offer free home care
- 15:09benefits to veterans. So to qualify you have to have
- 15:13been in the military in some capacity and you automatically
- 15:16qualify for home care benefits if you had any sort of service
- 15:20connected disability. If you are former POW.
- 15:24If you want a Purple Heart or Medal of Honor.
- 15:28And awesome, awesome. And if you have any sort of, if
- 15:33you meet the income requirements, that's the other
- 15:35way you can qualify as well. So if I'm a family member and
- 15:39I'm worried about taking care of my relative and they serve and
- 15:42meet the qualifications through the VA, you guys can take care
- 15:45of it. 100% you can get anywhere from 6 to 28 hours per week.
- 15:50That's amazing. That's amazing.
- 15:51How's it like being out here at the Expo and seeing all these
- 15:54veterans? It's amazing, honestly, just to
- 15:56see like the range and ages and like just to see all these
- 16:01amazing people that have made such a strong commitment to our
- 16:04country. And it for me, it feels good to
- 16:07know I'm offering a service that can can help these people as
- 16:10they age and go into time in their life where they helped our
- 16:13country. Now we're helping them.
- 16:15Well, Alicia, I just want to tell you, this is Oscar Michael
- 16:17Radio episode 499 that you're part of.
- 16:20I'm so happy to talk with you. Thank you so much for your time.
- 16:23Thank you so much. Hey, we're Mission Flight.
- 16:26I got a lot to see and do. I want to thank Alicia and
- 16:29again, I'll have the link to Abernathy in the OSMIC radio
- 16:31show post. We're Mission Flight.
- 16:44You never know if you're going to run into anywhere, any climb,
- 16:47any place. And I'm walking through and I
- 16:49see the goat, the Legend truck, the cost with the Oscar Bush and
- 16:53Advocate truck. Welcome to OM Radio.
- 16:56Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
- 16:58This is wonderful. We haven't talked like on the on
- 17:01the air before we. Have not.
- 17:03We have not. So remind everybody again, what
- 17:06does the Office of the Veteran Advocate do for veterans in
- 17:09Massachusetts? Sure.
- 17:10So the Office of the Veteran Advocate is really there to make
- 17:13sure that veterans have access to all their benefits and
- 17:15entitlements. Our regional liaisons work
- 17:17really closely with the veteran service officers in each town to
- 17:20make sure that they have the resources needed to be
- 17:23successful and really support their veteran community.
- 17:25So you really are OM mission flight?
- 17:28Absolutely. Now you, you want some kind of
- 17:31award or something recently? Come on, tell me about that and
- 17:33I'll let you go. It's been such an honor.
- 17:36So I was awarded the Deborah Sampson Award, which is the
- 17:41highest honor in Massachusetts for a women veteran.
- 17:43It's really for a women veterans who are going above and beyond.
- 17:47And I'm so humbled to be standing on the shoulder of
- 17:49giants who really paved the way for for me to be able to do the
- 17:52work that I do. And honestly, it's just been
- 17:55such an incredible honor. Well, Truck, you tell Colonel
- 17:58Notch and all the crew back at OVA that I'm still pulling for
- 18:01him. I still love what you all do.
- 18:03Thank you so much for your time. Absolutely, Travis, thank you
- 18:05for you and what you do. It's amazing to to see the
- 18:08amount of support and enthusiasm for the veteran community.
- 18:10So we appreciate you. Truck the cost people ova.
- 18:13I'll have the link in Ox Mike radio show post.
- 18:27All right. And we're back.
- 18:29We are back. So I talked to several orgs
- 18:33already, but this is 1 is very special to me, the Executive
- 18:38Office of Veteran Services, and they're out today at the
- 18:41Brockton VA Expo. Who do I have the pleasure of
- 18:44talking to? My name is Peggy Duffy Shay and
- 18:47I work with the Women's Veterans Network.
- 18:49I have the honor of being here today and talking to our
- 18:52veterans about our state benefits, as well as I've had
- 18:55four women veterans today. 44 Now correct me if I'm wrong
- 18:59here. I was talking to the counselor
- 19:01Ed Flynn from the city of Boston.
- 19:04He's telling me that women veterans are the fastest growing
- 19:07segment in veterans. Are in the military more women?
- 19:09It's I think it's like it's anywhere between 12 and 20%
- 19:13women going into the service. It's amazing.
- 19:17Now they get out. Do they have the same kind of
- 19:20needs as male veterans? No, unfortunately they don't.
- 19:22And a lot of women have the imposter syndrome where they
- 19:25feel like they're not real veterans because they only did
- 19:28this or they only did that, and they sometimes isolate
- 19:31themselves. So we're out here today to let
- 19:33them know. And the four women that have
- 19:35come up today didn't know that we existed, didn't know that
- 19:37there is a sisterhood here for them.
- 19:40I almost can't believe that because I've talked to Dr.
- 19:43Andrea GAIL Bennett from the EOVS, and that's one of her
- 19:47focuses for the EOVS is, hey, we're here for women.
- 19:50We are here for women, and I am happy to say that our membership
- 19:53has grown 33% from last year. So doing these outreach, getting
- 19:58out into the community, we're letting women know that we're
- 20:00here and we're a resource for them.
- 20:03So whether it's 4 or 40 today, every woman counts.
- 20:06Every woman veteran counts in. The state of Massachusetts there
- 20:08are 2600 women veterans and I only have access to 3000.
- 20:15I thought it'd be more than that.
- 20:17We try, it's these outreach, it's it's people, it's word of
- 20:20mouth. And once they're, once they're
- 20:22there, once they come to one of our events, it's amazing.
- 20:26They're like, this is the greatest thing ever.
- 20:28The sisterhood is palpable. It's amazing.
- 20:31And I just think as a male veteran myself, I remember my
- 20:34Marine Corps sisters and they were like sisters, annoying
- 20:37sometimes and very protective sometimes, too.
- 20:40I think that, you know, why can't they have a seat at the
- 20:43table? Why aren't they more welcomed?
- 20:45Well sometimes their time and service wasn't as pleasurable or
- 20:49meaningful for one reason or another.
- 20:52Like I talked about the imposter symptom.
- 20:54But I am very impressed with more male veterans are trying to
- 20:58bring them in the full, trying to say it's a safe space, it's
- 21:01OK. And that's The thing is
- 21:02sometimes it's not a safe space. So with us coming together and
- 21:05finding out women veterans, we give them a voice.
- 21:08I really want to appreciate you coming to talk with me because I
- 21:11don't want any veteran, woman or otherwise, to feel less than.
- 21:14Absolutely, absolutely. And this, what the VA is doing
- 21:17here today is amazing. And I've gotten to meet a bunch
- 21:20of people that aren't aware of their state benefits, you know,
- 21:22their annuity, their tax abatement.
- 21:24So that's a real big reason why with states here to tell them,
- 21:28educate them on what they are entitled to.
- 21:30I just want to thank you for talking with me.
- 21:32I've talked to Corey and others from the EOBS and, and not as
- 21:35cool as me. Corey, you're not as cool as
- 21:39her. I'm going to tell you that right
- 21:40now, brother. So I just want to say thank you
- 21:43for being part of #499 it just means the world to me that
- 21:47you've shared so openly. Thank you.
- 21:48Thank you so much, enjoy the rest of your day.
- 21:50We'll do. We are mission in flight.
- 22:03Hey, it's trust Austin. Mike radio back here.
- 22:06Mission in flight with Greg from Veterans Voice Network.
- 22:09Greg, welcome. Travis, thanks for having me on.
- 22:12Appreciate it. We're kind of like peers in the
- 22:15same kind of thing. Yes, exactly.
- 22:17I love what you do. Well, I've been doing this now
- 22:21for about 20 years. I started off as a veterans
- 22:25advocate with UMass Boston and with ITT Technical Institute.
- 22:30And now I I started the radio show because there were no media
- 22:34outlets that would pay attention to anything we wanted to do
- 22:37concerning veterans. They had no advertising budgets.
- 22:40They they wouldn't give us any help.
- 22:43So out of desperation, I called the radio station and they let
- 22:46me in. And 14 years later, we're still
- 22:49going on. That's amazing.
- 22:50I mean, I'm almost 10 years old to the day.
- 22:53Congrats, Congrats. Thank you so much.
- 22:56I know, I know, you'd appreciate that you've been doing this a
- 22:59long time. In your mind, what do veterans
- 23:01still need that they're not getting right now?
- 23:04Boy, it's it, it, they need a kick in the ass really.
- 23:09And, and, and the reason I say that is that they're all
- 23:13wonderful. They're well meaning, but they
- 23:15don't take the time to take care of themselves.
- 23:18The, the, the statement that they always come up with, Oh,
- 23:21I'm not that bad. Somebody has it worse than I am.
- 23:24I don't want to take it away from somebody else when in
- 23:27reality there's more than enough benefits to go around.
- 23:31But my show helps to create awareness and get the veterans
- 23:36out there to go to the local Vsos and the various service
- 23:41agencies and sign up for your benefits.
- 23:45Come on, you deserve it. If you don't deserve it, your
- 23:48family does. Well, isn't it right too that if
- 23:50they don't use it, it's going to go away?
- 23:52Yes, absolutely Travis. If they if they don't spend to
- 23:56the budget, then oh, you had extra money, Well you don't need
- 23:59that much money next year. Well, you can do without 100
- 24:02million for the veterans pocket. You didn't use it, so why don't
- 24:06we just take it back? Right, right, right.
- 24:08And it's a real thing coming up. I really try to tell veterans,
- 24:12get out there, get out there. What's some of your favorite
- 24:15parts about doing your radio show?
- 24:18I I think to, to see the dedication and the love that the
- 24:22veterans groups have on my, for other veterans.
- 24:26My, my show has tries to get guests every week that are
- 24:30relative to the, to the industry.
- 24:32And inevitably the, the, the people that I get that are the
- 24:35most dedicated are dedicated because they want to be, not
- 24:40because they're getting paid to or they, they can get bigger
- 24:45paying jobs in the private sector, but they want to return.
- 24:49They feel good within the veterans community.
- 24:51And it's a camaraderie that veterans helping veterans to do
- 24:54good things. Nice, nice.
- 24:56Well, I just admire what he does.
- 24:58I'm going to have the links to the Veterans Voice Network on
- 25:01us. Mike Brillo show post.
- 25:02This is number 499. It's a special moment for me.
- 25:04Thank you so much for for joining in.
- 25:06Travis, welcome. Sometime you want to come down
- 25:09to my field, we can have you on my show.
- 25:11We can talk some vet stuff. Let's trade shows.
- 25:14Let's do it. Let's make it happen right here,
- 25:16right? Yes, that sounds great, Travis,
- 25:18look forward. To it.
- 25:19Thank you so much. We're mission in flight.
- 25:20Alright, buddy.
- 25:32All right, closing this out #499 here at the Brockton VA Veterans
