- 0:21Speaker 3: you got going on?
- 0:22Speaker 1: Now, what is your secret?
- 0:24Speaker 2: All right? Well, my parents, my parents have been together
- 0:27Speaker 2: my entire life. They're a couple like everybody envies, and
- 0:30Speaker 2: people point and say, real love still exists, you know
- 0:34Speaker 2: through those people. They're always been solid. Dad adoors my mom.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Oh, he literally like worships the ground that she walks on.
- 0:40Speaker 2: I mean that's what we've believed anyway. So my mom's
- 0:44Speaker 2: got to menza and she's gotten worse recently. Oh no,
- 0:47Speaker 2: And my sisters and I have been like helping organize
- 0:50Speaker 2: everything in the house. And because she hides stuff everywhere. Now,
- 0:55Speaker 2: one afternoon, I'm cleaning out their closet and I find
- 0:58Speaker 2: this old box tuck behind some blankets, and it was
- 1:01Speaker 2: still with all these letters, all handwritten and recognize my
- 1:05Speaker 2: dad's handwriting right away, and curiosity, of course got the
- 1:08Speaker 2: best of me. So I started. I brought him home
- 1:11Speaker 2: because I don't want my dad to see me, like
- 1:13Speaker 2: going through them and everything, and yeah, so they're like
- 1:16Speaker 2: first normal sweet love notes, cards, random memories and everything.
- 1:21Speaker 3: So you're reading all these you're reading all these notes
- 1:24Speaker 3: and all these letters at home, like you take them
- 1:26Speaker 3: home with you to read.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I just like to tuck the box. I
- 1:30Speaker 2: would do, Okay, Yeah, right, So I get to this
- 1:34Speaker 2: one letter and it just changes how I see my
- 1:37Speaker 2: dad forever. Why that's an apology letter, and it's a
- 1:40Speaker 2: brutal apology letter. So my dad is like begging my
- 1:44Speaker 2: mom for forgiveness, admitting he had an affair.
- 1:47Speaker 3: No, yeah, this so this letter is your dad writing
- 1:52Speaker 3: your mom saying I'm sorry and going over the details
- 1:56Speaker 3: of him cheating.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Well he's look, it meant nothing, and you didn't want
- 2:00Speaker 2: to lose his family and everything that build together, and
- 2:03Speaker 2: kept writing about how ashamed he was and terrified he
- 2:06Speaker 2: like she leave him, and like the part that hit
- 2:09Speaker 2: me the hardest was he mentioned me and my sister
- 2:11Speaker 2: by name in the letter.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So you guys were so you were alive, you were
- 2:16Speaker 1: born by then.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we were a little kid.
- 2:20Speaker 3: That does feel different when that, you know, because if
- 2:22Speaker 3: it was like they were teenagers and he mess risk, yeah,
- 2:26Speaker 3: but you were around, so I could see why that
- 2:30Speaker 3: would hit harder.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah. Right.
- 2:32Speaker 2: So I'm like just staring at the page and sitting
- 2:34Speaker 2: there because if you knew my dad, you'd never think this.
- 2:37Speaker 2: He was even capable of this. He's always calm and dependable,
- 2:42Speaker 2: involved at church. She's the guy everybody trusts. And you know,
- 2:45Speaker 2: he coached all our teams and kissed my mom goodbye
- 2:47Speaker 2: every morning, and every time I look at him. Now,
- 2:49Speaker 2: it's just different, you know.
- 2:51Speaker 1: It is. It's always the people you don't expect. Yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 1: the TV days. Yeah right.
- 2:56Speaker 3: And I'm not saying your dad's a bad guy by
- 2:58Speaker 3: any means, but it's always that couple. And maybe this
- 3:01Speaker 3: is part of what made them stronger. Who knows, but
- 3:04Speaker 3: it does change everything for you, I can imagine.
- 3:08Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, she clearly forgave him because they stayed
- 3:11Speaker 2: together and they survived it somehow, you know. And I
- 3:14Speaker 2: can't tell my dad, I know. I haven't told my
- 3:17Speaker 2: sisters because I feel like the whole family dynamic would change,
- 3:21Speaker 2: and honestly, they would lose their minds if they found out.
- 3:23Speaker 1: Oh you haven't told your sisters? Oh no, no, so
- 3:27Speaker 1: you don't. It's just me that knows this, Okay.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Do you think it would help if you talk to
- 3:32Speaker 3: them about it and it was open and honest about it.
- 3:34Speaker 1: You don't think so.
- 3:35Speaker 2: I don't know, because like part of me feels angry,
- 3:38Speaker 2: you know, and like I'm mad at myself for reading
- 3:41Speaker 2: the letters in the box, you know, But I don't
- 3:43Speaker 2: know if it would help bringing it up or just
- 3:45Speaker 2: leave it alone.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Right, And nobody knows. I mean, you don't know until
- 3:49Speaker 1: you do it, and then what helps at this point though,
- 3:52Speaker 1: you know, right, I mean it's just like they know
- 3:55Speaker 1: and that they were the only two that were meant
- 3:56Speaker 1: to know.
- 3:57Speaker 3: Probably, and you're always gonna love your dad, I'm sure,
- 3:59Speaker 3: but it's this will take a second to digest, honestly.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You just you just learned about it, yeah, because.
- 4:06Speaker 2: You know it gives you hopes and your parents like that.
- 4:09Speaker 2: But you know, there is real love and marriages do
- 4:12Speaker 2: last and people don't cheat.
- 4:13Speaker 3: You know well, And it's also just you never know
- 4:15Speaker 3: what's going on behind closed doors and relationships. So the
- 4:18Speaker 3: people that look happy, I mean, everybody struggles, everybody goes
- 4:22Speaker 3: through that. But I don't think you can, you know,
- 4:24Speaker 3: live with that weight on your shoulders. Like at the
- 4:25Speaker 3: end of the day, if your mom forgave him right,
- 4:29Speaker 3: what else matters?
- 4:30Speaker 1: You know? That was their situation to repair.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And it's not like they split up after you guys
- 4:36Speaker 3: were older, you know, like they stayed together for you
- 4:38Speaker 3: guys and then decided it was time, like.
- 4:41Speaker 1: They worked it out. Yeah, they did.
- 4:43Speaker 2: So however that was I mean, been a happy marriage
- 4:46Speaker 2: that we know of, you know.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Yeah, and they have they obviously created a beautiful life
- 4:51Speaker 3: together and had some awesome kids like you, So yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 3: I would are you the oldest?
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 4:57Speaker 3: Okay, see now I feel like, yeah, you have have
- 5:00Speaker 3: to bear that weight and just not Yeah. I don't
- 5:03Speaker 3: think I would say anything, And maybe I'm wrong for that,
- 5:05Speaker 3: but I think I would just keep it to myself.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And why why ruin the image of my dad to
- 5:10Speaker 3: my sisters if I don't have to?
- 5:12Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 5:13Speaker 1: Or is it something they should know? I don't know.
- 5:15Speaker 3: I don't think I would, though, but hey, thank you
- 5:17Speaker 3: so much for sharing that secret. I'm sorry that your
- 5:20Speaker 3: mom is dealing with that, because I know that's tough
- 5:22Speaker 3: in itself. So good luck.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Okay, thank you very much.
- 5:26Speaker 1: You're welcome. Now do you like do you know your
- 5:28Speaker 1: parents drama? I never really grew.
- 5:30Speaker 3: Up like that, so I'm wonder if you know, like,
- 5:32Speaker 3: if it's too obviously it's never perfect. Do you want
- 5:35Speaker 3: to know your parents drama like that?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Oh? I wouldn't either, you know, No, keep it in
- 5:40Speaker 1: the box. It just feels weird.
- 5:41Speaker 3: Some families, though, are just so open and they talk
- 5:44Speaker 3: about everything. Yeah, and that in itself sometimes is weird
- 5:47Speaker 3: to me.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, but maybe it's healthier. It probably is. Yeah, I'm
- 5:50Speaker 1: learn and grow. I'm not saying I'm healthy, not by
- 5:54Speaker 1: any mean
