- 0:00SPEAKER_01: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 5.
- 0:03SPEAKER_01: Hey, 17 Mistakes Tourists Make.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: A new article out.
- 0:05SPEAKER_01: Do John and I agree we'll have that coming up.
- 0:08SPEAKER_01: Plus, we make a trip to the Buffalo Bar at the Rampart Casino just off the strip.
- 0:13SPEAKER_01: And True Food Kitchen opens at the forum shops.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: And we are talking football.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: Will Tom Brady end up living in Las Vegas when the Raiders begin play here in the Valley?
- 0:24SPEAKER_02: Plus the impact that the NFL team is going to have on UNLV recruiting.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: Plus, our secret tips all ahead on Vegas Reveal.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Hello everyone.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 1:12SPEAKER_01: So there was an article put out recently by the Huffington Post, uh, the Huff Post, I guess you call it now.
- 1:17SPEAKER_01: Um, and it listed off 17 things that tourists do wrong.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: I thought it was an interesting article, and I really actually liked a lot of the pointers.
- 1:26SPEAKER_01: Did you, Sean?
- 1:26SPEAKER_02: I liked a lot of them too, but one thing that didn't make the list was those dumb yardstick margaritas.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Those neck straps, are you kidding me?
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: You don't need those.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 1:36SPEAKER_01: But they're so fun.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Hey, uh, number one on the list though was not drinking enough water.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: I did find that interesting because when I moved to Las Vegas, even just working out in the field, we had a lot of reporters and photographers that would pass out because they were new to town, and everyone would say, You gotta drink water.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: And so, yeah, if you're out in that heat, you're spending the day outside, you're walking the strip, even at night, even when the sun is not out, it is dry and you have to drink water.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Even in the winter.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: Even in the winter.
- 2:01SPEAKER_01: Um second one was renting a car.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: I thought that was interesting.
- 2:03SPEAKER_01: They said you don't really need one, you know, you just hop around, you can walk, you can Uber, you can taxi, uh, you can take the trams, all that kind of thing.
- 2:10SPEAKER_01: Good point.
- 2:11SPEAKER_02: It's a good point, and you have to pay for parking unless you're staying at the Venetian and Palazzo, because parking's always free here.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 2:19SPEAKER_01: We always like to point that out every podcast.
- 2:22SPEAKER_01: Um, what do you think of number three?
- 2:23SPEAKER_01: Trying to do too much in one one night.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: They were saying kind of spread it out and don't tap yourself out.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Well, I I think that is rule number one whenever you do anything in Las Vegas.
- 2:33SPEAKER_02: I think pacing yourself is uh should be rule number one.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think if you go all out, you arrive on a Thursday night, you're like, yeah, let's do Vegas.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: Then you're like so hung over the next day and sick.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: Then the next day it's that recovery, okay, I can finally eat again and I drink it, and then it's the next day before you feel really good to go enjoy it.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and uh also on this list is misjudging the distance between casinos, which is a big thing because these are huge, monstrous buildings.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Essentially, they're cities within a city, a lot of these.
- 3:08SPEAKER_02: And people think that you can just walk down the strip to get from New York, New York, up to uh, I don't know, m the Mirage.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: That's a long walk.
- 3:19SPEAKER_02: That's a long damn walk.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you shouldn't put on your Christian Louboutons, ladies, and think you can just, you know, huff your way over to uh the Mirage from New York, New York.
- 3:28SPEAKER_01: It is a long walk, trust us.
- 3:30SPEAKER_02: And people think that you can walk to the airport too.
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: All the time I see people dragging their suitcase on the sidewalk trying to walk to the airport, and not a good idea.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: First of all, the roads getting in and out of there are super busy, and you don't want to even try and cross those roads.
- 3:49SPEAKER_02: But it's far.
- 3:50SPEAKER_02: It's not close.
- 3:51SPEAKER_02: Like that is a huge plot of land that is surrounded by nothing, and you don't want to walk in the air.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: You don't.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: That gives me anxiety thinking about it.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: That is a long walk to get in.
- 4:01SPEAKER_01: And speaking of that, misjudging the airport was on the list, and I thought that was interesting just because you talk about that.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: A lot of people think because it is so close, they can hop in an Uber and they're there in 10 minutes, but it's not true because there are a lot of busy times that a lot of people are trying to get to the airport at the same time and that kind of thing.
- 4:16SPEAKER_01: And I think that it does have, you know, effect on your time because you have to wait maybe a little longer for a ride.
- 4:22SPEAKER_01: There is a lot of traffic around the airport at certain times, so make sure you leave enough time.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: Definitely a good tip as well.
- 4:29SPEAKER_01: Uh, one of them said, you know, a lot of them don't join players' clubs, and there are so many benefits.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: So even if you're not like gambling, gambling hardcore, you can actually get a lot of discounts and things like that on just things inside the resort, you know, credits for food, all that kind of thing.
- 4:45SPEAKER_01: Um, you know, even spa discount.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: So it's worth signing up for a players' club, especially if you're staying in that hotel.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: And and definitely don't feel like you have to stick to everything that's on the strip.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: There is a lot outside of of what happens on this, you know, this couple mile stretch of of real estate here in the middle of the Las Vegas Valley.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: There are a lot of great restaurants, a lot of great shops, a lot of great hiking.
- 5:11SPEAKER_02: One of the the great new spots off the strip is over at the rampart.
- 5:17SPEAKER_01: Right, the buffalo bar.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: People love it.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: It's it's a big deal.
- 5:21SPEAKER_01: And the cool thing about this is that it's the only one so far that is west of the Mississippi.
- 5:27SPEAKER_01: And so, what is it?
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Well, I don't know, Sean, maybe you can explain better.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: Okay, so you know, you're walking through a casino and all of a sudden you hear Buffalo! Those are the games that we're talking about.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: They made an entire, essentially a lounge area.
- 5:44SPEAKER_02: They've turned it into uh an area that is dedicated just to uh all the all the games that are under that Buffalo brand, Buffalo, Buffalo Gold, Buffalo Gold Revolution, Buffalo Stampede.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: They even now have Buffalo Kino.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: I know, that was really cool, right?
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: And it's an whole area.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: It even has a bar.
- 6:03SPEAKER_01: That's why they call it the Buffalo Bar, and it's really cool.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: They make this specialty cocktail, and you can get it while you play.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: And it's called the hairy buffalo.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: We watched it, get made.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Go to our our YouTube and some of our social.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: We'll show you how it's made there.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: We've got video and everything like that.
- 6:17SPEAKER_01: Sean, uh well, I took a sip too.
- 6:19SPEAKER_01: I took a quick sip.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: Sean drank a couple more sips than I did.
- 6:22SPEAKER_01: And it's like a long island iced tea with like a fruity punch twist, right?
- 6:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's got a like fruit punch and I think a little pineapple mixed in there too.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: But uh it's definitely, I don't know that you want to go overboard on the hairy buffalo.
- 6:36SPEAKER_02: I think a few of them, you'll be good.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: You'll probably be not even a few.
- 6:40SPEAKER_02: What am I talking about?
- 6:40SPEAKER_01: Oh my god, you'd be hammered.
- 6:42SPEAKER_02: I think you get down one and you'll be feeling the effects.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, don't get on uh Buffalo Billy, which is also there that you can hop on and take a picture with.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: Um don't well, maybe I don't know, it's up to you.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Be careful when you get on Buffalo Billy if you've had three hairy buffaloes.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: Let's put it that way.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: Could be a liability.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: Hey, this was also cool.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: You and I went to lunch at the new true food kitchen.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: Now, we already have one in town, but this one's on the strip.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: It's at the forum shops.
- 7:05SPEAKER_01: It's really big, too, and huge menu and super healthy food, fresh food.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: It was so good.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: We loved it, and I thought this was cool, Sean, because I thought, you know what?
- 7:16SPEAKER_01: Living here as a local, and you know, I thought about if I was visiting, there really aren't tons of kind of health food-based restaurants here.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: I mean, I think there's like a juice standard at the Cosmo, things like that.
- 7:27SPEAKER_01: But there other than that, it's you know, you going to a restaurant and kind of picking the healthy thing on the menu if you want to eat right.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: And this, I mean, this whole concept is based on healthy food.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: We had a um was it was a cauliflower polenta, wasn't it?
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 7:43SPEAKER_01: And it had you had the salmon on it, and I had the chicken, and it said vegetables.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: It was delicious, really.
- 7:49SPEAKER_01: And what was that uh dessert we had?
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: It was I don't even know if it was a dessert, but it was uh chia seed pudding.
- 7:55SPEAKER_01: Oh, that was so good.
- 7:56SPEAKER_01: So good.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: I had a great tea uh with ginger and honey.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Anyway, it's delicious.
- 8:00SPEAKER_02: It's and I had a I had a margarita with ginger.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: You did.
- 8:04SPEAKER_01: Every time Sean and I go to lunch, I ordered the Diet Coke or the tea, and Sean always orders something with a splash of alcohol in it.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: But you know what?
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: We work hard.
- 8:14SPEAKER_01: Or a beer, whatever.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: Or a beer, yeah.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Sometimes you need to.
- 8:17SPEAKER_01: You are a beer drinker.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: So True Food Kitchen now open at the Forum Shops.
- 8:20SPEAKER_01: Uh, wanted to let everyone know about that because it's a cool thing for tourists and locals to go check out.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: It's huge.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: It's um right on the first floor as you walk in near Joe's Stone Crab.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: And something else that's new is that big allegiance stadium right across the highway from Mandalay Bay.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: It's that big black stadium, you can't miss it.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: Of course, that's the home to the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: And there's been a lot of speculation with the team.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you know, the stadium's coming along.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: And you know what else is coming along is the possibility of Tom Brady moving to Las Vegas and playing for the Raiders.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Now, however, as those conversations keep continuing, they kind of diminish as well.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: So it's really a lot of speculation at this point, but you know, it's official now that he's gonna go for it and be a free agent, right?
- 9:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah, coming up in March, Tom Brady's going to be a free agent, so he'll be testing the waters outside of uh New England and and outside of Boston and you know, see what kind of offers come his way.
- 9:18SPEAKER_02: And there has been a lot of talk, I mean, here uh to Las Vegas to play with the Raiders, even reports that he bought a house here, but that ended up not being true.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: I mean, apparently, but you never know, because sometimes I don't know, who knows?
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: But it was, yeah, it was Las Vegas locally on Twitter, you know, said, Oh, he heard Tom Brady bought a house in Summerlin.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Everyone chimed in, and you know, including me, that I was in stalker mode already.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: I mean, listen, I am a huge Tom Brady fan.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: I really like him.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: I like uh like the way he plays.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: He's good to his family, and he's nice to look at, Sean.
- 9:51SPEAKER_01: Well, it's just gonna be it's just gonna be the girly, the girly little comment that I'm gonna make right there.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: But I enjoy watching him.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: I think he works hard.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: Look at I don't think that the Raiders are going to need any more publicity when they move here to Las Vegas.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: There's gonna be enough going on around the team when they come here.
- 10:06SPEAKER_02: But I mean, if Tom Brady were to join the roster, that would definitely up the up the profile the entire team.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Then a lot of people are saying, no, we don't want Brady in Las Vegas.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: So, you know, you've got that's what but that's what the sport's all about, right?
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: You love some, you like you don't like some, you want to make up your own team, you think this would be best, you think that would be best, and so it's created a lot of conversation no matter what.
- 10:28SPEAKER_02: It has.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: And there are some some offshore betting uh people who put the odds of Tom Brady coming to the Raiders at about three to one.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: So who knows?
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: We'll see as uh you know spring marches on what happens with Tom Brady, where he ends up, if he even ends up leaving the Patriots, because a lot of people say after looking at the options that present themselves, he may just stay where he's been comfortable and made a great living for the past decade.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're looking forward to the Raiders uh being here, and I know tourists are looking forward to it too, because a lot of them will come to watch the Raiders or enjoy the stadium, but they might come watch their team play the Raiders, you know, like let's go to Vegas, let's go to a game on Sunday, let's hang out, you know, and and party on the strip or enjoy the strip or gamble or whatever you want to do, and then and then, you know, just make a vacation out of it.
- 11:19SPEAKER_01: So there's that.
- 11:21SPEAKER_01: But then there's also our college football team is gonna be playing at Allegiant Stadium.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: So this is a huge deal for UNLV.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: It is, and we have a team insider coming up next here in studio to talk about the impact that the Raiders are going to have on the UNLV football program.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: Keep it here on Vegas Revealed.
- 11:40SPEAKER_03: Let's go, let's go.
- 11:48SPEAKER_02: From coast to coast here in the U.S.
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: and around the world, people are tuning in to Vegas Reveal.

- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Send us a message on the Vegas Revealed pages.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: We've got a Facebook page, Instagram, and Twitter.
- 12:12SPEAKER_01: Your comments or suggestions could be a part of our next episode.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: Thanks for listening to Vegas Revealed.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Let's go, Vegas, baby.
- 12:22SPEAKER_03: Let's go.
- 12:24unknown: Let's go.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: With us right now, we are excited to have Mark Wallington in the studio, communications director with UNLB football and tennis.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: And you've been with the program, Mark, since we were saying 1993.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, three decades almost come out.
- 12:38SPEAKER_00: You know, we're we did the big um 50-year anniversary of the football team, and then we the the football stadium, Sambo Stadium, turned 50 years on my boy.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: I've been here for a lot of that.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Oh my goodness.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: You were saying you left college, and then all of a sudden uh you got a job and you've been with it ever since.
- 12:52SPEAKER_01: It's amazing.
- 12:53SPEAKER_00: Came here for an internship out of the University of Florida after getting my master's, and the UN of V just hired someone from the University of Florida as the athletic director.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: He brought me over for an internship, and now 27 years later, still here.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: That's the best internship ever.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:06SPEAKER_02: About the same pay.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: That's what we all say, right?
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: But you know, this is probably one of the most exciting times in all of your in all of your experience at UNLV, having the Raiders coming to town, having a new football complex.
- 13:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, kind of in a nutshell, can you talk about the excitement surrounding the program right now?
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: You know, it really is amazing because I tell people there's never been a college program in the country that has had all this happen at once.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: We're not we're moving into a world-class football stadium, maybe the best in the world.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: Um not many colleges can say that.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Plus, we just opened a$35 million training center on campus, the Fertita Football Complex, in the same year.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: So it's an amazing transformation, and this is the time to take advantage and and start turning that program and become a consistent winner.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: And I think if there's a buzz, there's an excitement, the the Raiders coming in, and now we've become pro-town with the the Knights.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: It's it's really made the brand of Las Vegas very attractive to young elite athletes, and we just found that out with signing day.
- 14:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and tell us about signing day.
- 14:11SPEAKER_01: I mean, I've obviously got a new co you've got a new coach, and then all these amazing signings.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: I was following them all on Twitter, but by the way, all the players were following me back, so I like them already.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: They know they got to be part of Las Vegas.
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Yes, they're buying in, and they're buying into our new head coach, Marcus Arroyo, who we just announced in mid-December, and since then he has turned 40 years old.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: He went out and hired an entire staff of some amazing assistant coaches from big schools, and then didn't sign anyone in December when he could have.
- 14:41SPEAKER_00: And he would decided to wait until February 5th, National Signing Day, took a chance, he said he bet on us, and he went out and signed 28 people.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: It's our biggest class ever.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: It's a it's the most improv it's the number one class in the Mountain West Conference for the first time, and really won a nationally one of the best classes, and easily the best recruiting class in school history.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: We have the highest rated high school kid coming in, and then we have the highest rated transfer coming in.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: I got this four-star quarterback out of TCU from out of Texas coming in and hopefully competing right away for us.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 15:12SPEAKER_02: Well, and and what do you think it's gonna do for conference play in the Mountain West?
- 15:17SPEAKER_02: Because we've seen the Pac-12 has has just kind of risen through the ranks and and started to be a part of the the national conversation.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: And with the recruiting that you're able to do now with the facilities that you have, does that help elevate the program and the conference as a whole?
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: Well, you know, college football, all sports come down to production out of players.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: So you gotta get the players.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, coaching obviously matters, but you have to have the players, and that's the difference.
- 15:44SPEAKER_00: Those two buildings that we talked about have transformed us as a destination.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Some of the guys, uh, Dana said she was watching them as they agreed to come here and sign their letters to come here.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: The the all you can tell how good they are by the offers of the other schools.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: You know, and there's a guy when I said the highest-rated high school recruiter, he he could have gone to LSU, he could have gone to Florida, he could have gone to Alabama, he could have gone to USC.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: He bought into Marcus Arroy, and he's a rebel now.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: And there's a lot of players now that we beat out.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: There was a kid who who Washington Washington State came in on and tried to steal away at the last minute we held on to him.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: So we're now beating Pac-12 schools on a lot of kids, and that's the difference, and that's going to be the difference in the results as we move up the standings on the field.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: It's exciting.
- 16:30SPEAKER_01: Tell us a little bit about the facility, too.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: When you talk about the Fertita complex, I mean, give people who are listening an idea of what we mean here.
- 16:36SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's incredible, right?
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: It is incredible.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: It's a top 10 facility out of the hundred and thirty schools that play FBS football.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: It's a top ten facility in the country.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: You know, Oregon's up there, Clemson.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: But we're in that conversation to put you and I'll be in the same sentences with those schools because of this building.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: Former coach Tony Sanchez, from the day he was hired to the five years he was here, he fundraised for that building, made it a reality, uh, raised almost all the money himself.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: The community bought in the Fertita family, a lot of families in town.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: It was all private money,$35 million, and we just opened it a couple months ago.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: It's an amazing place.
- 17:14SPEAKER_00: It's got a barber shop.
- 17:15SPEAKER_03: Oh, wow, that's cool.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: It's two stories, 75,000 square feet, uh just for football, uh, just for meeting and strength conditioning and athletic training, and there's a pool table and uh uh social area for the the locker rooms, unbelievable, with the TVs and the video games, and you know, that's what kids care about nowadays, and now UNLV has an upper hand in that.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: So let me ask you this with all those uh facilities, with the video games, with the uh the pool table, the barber shop, is there is there any intention in having those facilities to to keep the players at the facility and off of the craziness that can happen on the strip?
- 17:53SPEAKER_00: You know, it's funny, John Robinson, the legendary Hall of Fame coach who who was here uh for six years, he always said, people parents asked me, Well, how'd your how do you keep the kids off the strip?
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: Well, they can't afford to be on the strip.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: True.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: True.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: True.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: And this new facility gives them a day-to-day home to make their own for every practice.
- 18:14SPEAKER_00: Six days a week, they'll be at the Ferdita football complex.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: One day a week they'll go and play at Allegiance Stadium.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: So it's an amazing pairing of facilities at the same time, which is really going to thrust the program.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: The caliber.
- 18:25SPEAKER_01: And and can Pete and I'm just curious, can the public come watch the team practice?
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: You know, Coach Arroyo is still deciding on the schedule for the spring.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, I do know it starts March 24th, but we're still deciding like where the spring game will even be and how what that'll look like.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: We haven't got into the day-to-day yet in the next fall about whether practices are open or closed.
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: So that's that's still TBA.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: And what about uh when it comes to the games at the Allegiance Stadium?
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Um I think people always you don't want people to confuse, you know, that it's not gonna be Raiders game prices, right?
- 18:56SPEAKER_01: I mean the public's gonna be able to um afford to go and support the team.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: There's there's a season ticket price as low as$119.
- 19:04SPEAKER_00: Wow to get in there, you know.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: And the the the thing that our athletic director has decided to do and is very wise, is you know, it's a 65,000 seat stadium.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: Well, we don't need 65,000 seats.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: So we're only selling season tickets on the lower bowl.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: So we consider the 27,000 lower bowl.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: That's UNLV stadium.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: That includes all the amazing suites and club seats and luxury seating, but that's what that's what we're gonna focus on, and we're gonna try to sell out that lower bowl at 27,000, and and then hopefully there's a big enough demand that we start selling upstairs.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: But that's our goal, and I think it's gonna be attainable.
- 19:41SPEAKER_00: We've we've done some amazing selling out some club club seats already, some of the higher level luxury, because like you said, the price difference between the Raiders and us, same facility, but we're very low cost compared to them.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: Uh Desiree Reed Francois, the athletic director of UNV, said there's a seat for every wallet in Las Vegas.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, I love that.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and that's I mean, obviously, that's great for Las Vegas locals, but even tourists who are coming into town on college game day who want to get in and see the stadium.
- 20:12SPEAKER_02: This is a great way to do it.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we love our partnership with the Raiders, but they're gonna sell out, they're the NFL.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: For a lot of people to be able to enjoy and experience college football in or any kind of football in a Legion Stadium, they're gonna do it through UNLV, and we're we're love to have them.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that is it's it's true.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: It's such a great way to experience the stadium, support the team, and then, you know, folks coming in to watch the other team too, you know, that's the great thing, and then they can spend a couple days in Vegas.
- 20:37SPEAKER_00: And with and with that facility, the opponents are gonna you're gonna see an upgrade in opponent as well.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, I had to help with the scheduling and I get a lot of phone calls now.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: People are calling us, hey, can we come play UNLV?
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: And we're talking some we're talking some big, big names that usually don't even come out west at all.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: And they want to come play in that.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: They know that there's some great recruiting to be done here in Las Vegas, so they want to have a presence here while playing in a world-class stadium.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, we're gonna open against Cal.
- 21:02SPEAKER_00: We've never played Cal in football.
- 21:03SPEAKER_00: That's the opening game, August 29th at Allegiance Stadium.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: That's the big opener for us.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: And then we have teams like Arizona State, uh, UCLA, Vanderbilt to become the first SEC team to ever come play in Las Vegas.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: So uh we people are gonna see a great schedule when they come out to the stadium as well.
- 21:19SPEAKER_02: I was just gonna ask if there's SEC teams who uh are starting to calls.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 21:25SPEAKER_02: I imagine.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: August 29th, that's gonna require at least two tall cold beers, isn't it?
- 21:31SPEAKER_02: Oh, without a doubt.
- 21:33SPEAKER_01: And I love these little helmets.
- 21:34SPEAKER_01: Thanks for the pocket size helmet set.
- 21:35SPEAKER_01: Can we get these at at the website or at the store?
- 21:37SPEAKER_00: No, no, those are exclusive tickets.
- 21:39SPEAKER_00: Exclusive officials?
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: I thank you.
- 21:41SPEAKER_01: I love it.
- 21:42SPEAKER_01: And where do we go buy tickets?
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: UNLV ULVTickets.com online, if you want to do it online, or you can call 739 Fans, F-A-N-S 739 Fans, if you want to talk to a person, or you can do everything online, just pick your seat and buy it.
- 21:56SPEAKER_00: And what you know, the beautiful thing is during the season you just pick your seat, print it at home.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: And then that's your ticket, and you just go right through on your phone, you know, so you never even have to go to the box office.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: Everything is so easy now.
- 22:07SPEAKER_01: I really want quickly wanted to because I see your communications for tennis too.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: Tennis is is becoming huge.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Every morning I wake up, I live in a high rise, people are playing tennis.
- 22:15SPEAKER_01: And I have a lot of friends that are on tennis teams, and more so here than when I was back in upstate New York where I lived for most of my life, moved here 15 years ago.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: But tennis is becoming really popular.
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: How's that going?
- 22:26SPEAKER_01: How's that program going?
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Well, it's funny because that's another facility.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: It's the Fertita Tennis Complex.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: And that was that was from Mama Fertita, Vicky Fertita.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: She's the one who funded that right before I got here.
- 22:37SPEAKER_00: Frank and Vicky Fertita Tennis Complex.
- 22:39SPEAKER_00: That was the first Fertita building on campus.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And that's for her affinity for tennis.
- 22:43SPEAKER_00: I went to Florida, so I really enjoyed Florida Gator tennis as a student.
- 22:47SPEAKER_00: So when I came out here, I was excited to get tennis as one of my sports, so I've had it all the way through.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: And we've had national champion in singles, national champion in doubles for men.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Uh, we have a 12-time conference champion women's team.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: They just won and they won it a round in the NCAA last year.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: So it's a that's also another top 20 facility in the country, the Fertita.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: And the men's and women's teams are some of the winningest here at UNLV.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: It's incredible.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: It's amazing, and with world team tennis now being played out of Las Vegas by a former rebel who won the doubles national Tim Bleecker and won the national championship at UNLV as a doubles player now.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: He's the head coach of that team.
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: So really, if if Las Vegas' profile could be lifted any further, I think it's happening right now.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:28SPEAKER_01: What a great year.
- 23:29SPEAKER_01: Listen, Mark Wallington, thanks so much for coming on.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be an exciting year.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: We look forward to getting out there.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: I'm actually gonna hop on when you were talking about season tickets for$119 starting at that's a that's a great price.
- 23:40SPEAKER_02: UNLVTickets.com.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Thanks, Mark.
- 23:42SPEAKER_02: Thanks, guys.
- 23:43SPEAKER_02: So that's a great way to save on getting into Allegiance Stadium.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: But coming up, we have more ways that you can save on tickets to big time events here in Vegas.
- 23:52SPEAKER_02: Our two secret tips are next on Vegas Reveal.
- 23:59SPEAKER_01: Hey, thanks for listening to Vegas Revealed.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Each week we'll chat about anything in Las Vegas.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: Highlights of things new and old, secrets, stories, and our favorites.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: We look forward to interviewing some of the most interesting people in Vegas, celebrities, friends, those that work behind the scenes, and more.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: We want to enhance your Vegas experience.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: We've lived here for 15 years each, and we have some really useful tips.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: Expect something different each week on Vegas Reveal.
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: It's time for Dana and John's two secret tips.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: I know you look forward to this every week, aren't you, Sean?
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: Yes, I do.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: I always want to know what you have to say.
- 24:46SPEAKER_01: Well, this time, you know, I've talked about this before, but not here on the Vegas Revealed podcast.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: So I have to share because it has to do with parking.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: And, you know, this one is for locals and also people out of town.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: We talked a little bit earlier about a post that says tourists shouldn't rent a car, but a lot of you do, and a lot of tourists come in from Arizona and Los Angeles and they drive their car in, right?
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: So something I wanted folks to know were a few of the places that offer uh free or cheaper valet, because you know, over the last few years, a lot of resort casinos have started charging for parking, and uh a lot of people aren't happy about that.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: Let's just say that.
- 25:18SPEAKER_01: Here at the Venetian Palazzo, it's free at the Wynn they got rid of it.
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: It's free there now as well.
- 25:22SPEAKER_01: Treasure Island, I think, off the strip at the Rio and a couple other ones on the strip.
- 25:25SPEAKER_02: But well, uh there's been a lot of business that's been impacted by by having uh paid parking implemented these properties.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: I seriously think about that.
- 25:36SPEAKER_01: Like, well, where should we go?
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: And I think where is the free parking, or how can I get closest if I can get there in a way that's convenient and free, then I'm like, I'm not gonna go in and spend whatever, eighty to a hundred dollars on a dinner and then pay for parking too.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: So I try and work around it.
- 25:51SPEAKER_01: So I think a lot of people have that mentality.
- 25:53SPEAKER_01: So here's the deal: free valet parking at the Mandalay Bay shops, okay?
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: So you park there at the shops, walk in, go up the escalators, walk through that little area, and there's restaurants up there too, and then go down the escalators and you're on the casino floor.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Pretty easy.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: Free valet there.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Also, the shops at Crystals, and that's in Aria.
- 26:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, so you can pay for valet up at the top, but you can go underneath, go to the crystal shops.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: In there, you walk through, they have restaurants inside and shopping too, or you can go up one level and then you can go to the aria right nearby, or you can even take a tram over to the Bellagio.
- 26:29SPEAKER_01: So it's kind of a sneaky little thing, and then you get free valet parking.
- 26:34SPEAKER_01: Also, the Form Shops has valet parking for only seven dollars, so that's more affordable than the usual$20-ish dollars to valet.
- 26:40SPEAKER_01: So I wanted to let people know about that.
- 26:42SPEAKER_01: Then to make use of the trams, there's a tram um that goes from like Treasure Island to Mirage.
- 26:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's right.
- 26:49SPEAKER_01: So you can park at Treasure Island, tram to Mirage, uh, things like that.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: You gotta be creative.
- 26:53SPEAKER_01: And then if you are gonna go do some shopping, um, maybe at the fashion show, just so you know, they have free parking garage and free valet at the fashion show as well.
- 27:00SPEAKER_01: So that's an option as well if you want to go over there and eat or maybe do some shopping.
- 27:04SPEAKER_01: Those are my free parking tips when it comes to valet.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: I figured I should share and let everyone know.
- 27:08SPEAKER_02: Hey, there's no better price than free.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I like it.
- 27:12SPEAKER_02: And uh, you know, when people come to town, obviously shows are a big attraction.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: And some of the ticket prices, people can get sticker shock.
- 27:21SPEAKER_02: You know, there there are some shows that are up to 250 bucks a ticket, depending on what you want to go see.
- 27:26SPEAKER_01: And if you want to see more than one, which a lot of people do, you know, it's like, well, I'll make it difficult.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: It does make it difficult.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: But there are some ways to get around that.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: Now, if you are a Las Vegas local, there's something called house seats.com.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: And what this is, this is a membership.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: It starts with monthly memberships as low as$40, and that will give you access to kind of some last-minute ticket deals.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: So you buy the membership apparently.
- 27:55SPEAKER_01: I've never done it, but um, I used to have a lot of people that worked with me that did it, and they too.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you'd you'd buy it, and like you said, for$39,$40, you have it for 60 days.
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: For$89, you can get it for a year.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: And then whenever there are empty seats that they want filled, you go on and look and go, okay, I'm gonna go to whatever, you know, this show tonight or that show.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: And then some pretty good good shows get listed.
- 28:15SPEAKER_01: Because listen, these shows can't sell out every single night.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: No, no, you can't.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: So for a low membership price, you do get access to some really incredible shows.
- 28:25SPEAKER_02: So that's a great thing if you live here in Las Vegas.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: This is a service that's only available to Las Vegas locals.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: However, if you're coming in from out of town, something that you might want to look at is Groupon.
- 28:37SPEAKER_02: Because you'd might be surprised that even big name entertainers like Mariah Carey are listed on Groupon right now.
- 28:45SPEAKER_02: Mariah Carey is playing over at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace through the end of February.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: Her tickets normally like 130 bucks.
- 28:53SPEAKER_02: They're on there for less than 70 right now to see Mariah Carey.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: That's great.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, she's incredible.
- 28:58SPEAKER_02: So you go on there, look at some of the resident shows like RuPaul's Drag Race, which we just saw for its opening night, and it's amazing.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: There's even some mail review shows, there's a lot of options on there, too.
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: Comedy magic, uh vocal groups.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: It it really is amazing, and it gives you a really good idea of the caliber of entertainment like Barry Manilo.
- 29:23SPEAKER_02: Wow, Barry Manilo at the Westgate.
- 29:25SPEAKER_01: 60 bucks.
- 29:26SPEAKER_01: How about that?
- 29:27SPEAKER_01: That's a steal.
- 29:27SPEAKER_02: Barry Manilo, a living legend, by the way.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: But that's a big theater, you know, and he's still you know, it's all about getting the word out, getting, you know, you never know if it's maybe a slow week in Vegas or whatever, and you you put some of those tickets on sale.
- 29:38SPEAKER_01: Why not?
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: And who knows?
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: Maybe Cherry Boom Boom is the thing.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: You know what?
- 29:43SPEAKER_01: That one that show starts at 11.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: It it well, so that's a late night.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: So you go to one of these.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: I need to go one time and check it out.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: They keep inviting us, but I'm like, okay, well, when can I start my night at 11?
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: You get a reasonable ticket to Mariah Carey, then pop over to Cherry Boom.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's everyone says it's a really fun show.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, Zombie Burlesque, uh, Murray Sawchuk's on there as well, Raiding the Rock Vault.
- 30:04SPEAKER_01: That's a great list.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, they are great shows.
- 30:07SPEAKER_01: I mean, so go on Groupon, like Sean said.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: I'm just Sean, I never thought about it until Sean brought it up, and then now we're looking through and I'm like, look at this list.
- 30:14SPEAKER_02: I know, but so here's another thing.
- 30:16SPEAKER_02: If you actually walk up to the box office and talk with some of these uh ticket tellers at the uh casino, this is something that you might want to do if you know you haven't made your plans, if you don't have things locked in, and ask the ticket teller if there are any partially obstructed view seats.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: Because sometimes there might be a column in the theater that might partially obstruct your view.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: Obviously, you're not gonna be sitting behind a column, but or sometimes the view might cut off a a little corner of the stage.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Anywhere inside the theater that doesn't have a perfectly clear view of everything that's going on, they consider it a partially obstructed view and they drastically reduce those ticket prices.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: So, but that's something you have to uh they're not available online.
- 31:07SPEAKER_02: I know that for sure.
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: Uh, I don't think that they're available if you call.
- 31:12SPEAKER_02: They might if you get somebody who's having a good mood that day.
- 31:16SPEAKER_02: But um definitely if you walk up to the uh ticket counter and ask for those tickets that are a uh partially obstructed view, if those haven't been sold yet, that's a a great value for you.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a great, great, great tip, definitely.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: And so those are your secret tips.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Uh free valet and lots of deals and steals for show tickets, which, you know, Vegas is really known for the shows, a lot of, you know, besides just the gaming and the food and all that other good stuff, but people want to come see shows, and so now you can go to one or two or three.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: And you can get into Allegiant Stadium.
- 31:50SPEAKER_01: I know, those UNLV ticket prices are amazing, right?
- 31:53SPEAKER_02: Go see a UNLV game on a Saturday, check out Allegiant Stadium, and you don't need to pay the Raiders prices.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: Hey, thanks for listening, everyone.
- 32:01SPEAKER_01: We've really enjoyed uh seeing who is listening, and uh, we appreciate everyone from really around the globe chiming in uh to listen to Vegas Revealed and also a lot of the locals.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: So this is podcast number five, and uh we'll see you next week for number six.
- 32:16SPEAKER_01: Bye.
