- 0:00Speaker 1: The third and final hour of this program here on
- 0:03a log Horns Monday, and we'll be glad to discuss
- 0:08a variety of topics as well.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Here on the program.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I have because I have a new laptop in order,
- 0:15I'm still trying to get it configured on things, and
- 0:16that would include our text line.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Cam however, has.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Access to the text line, so if anything comes up
- 0:22of consequence, you will bring it to my attention.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's been a busy day on the text line.
- 0:29We can run through them. Sure you want clean up? Yeah, absolutely,
- 0:32a little clean upon on the text line, Cebe says Craig.
- 0:36Great call as usual Saturday, and I loved your tweets
- 0:38Saturday night with Will Matthews eating corn dogs and the
- 0:42better than a factory cigar statement. The win was an
- 0:45early birthday gift for me, as today is my actual birthday.
- 0:49There you go, CB, congrats, we had a good time.
- 0:53I you know, I usually eat a corn dog every
- 0:58year at the Texas OU game. Every year, I usually
- 1:00eat a corn dog.
- 1:02Speaker 1: I had not had a chance to get to one,
- 1:05and I was just kind of musing aloud and Will
- 1:09Matthews needed a ride back to the hotel and I said,
- 1:12we hop in hop in with us, so he was
- 1:14gonna ride with Linden and me back to the hotel.
- 1:17But I mentioned getting a corn dog, and Will had
- 1:21made it clear in the post game when we were
- 1:23talking to her, we'd been given word that members of
- 1:27the Texas Athletics staff someone was going out to get
- 1:30Sark a corn dog, because we said on longgrn Weekly
- 1:34last week. Now, he pledged if someone would get him
- 1:36what he'd eaten, the cotton candy bacon on a stick.
- 1:39Nobody got him that, But I think he was really
- 1:42more interested in the corn dog.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Because he mentioned a couple of times and he never
- 1:44had one.
- 1:46Speaker 1: So we pointed out, well asked the question during to
- 1:49break all us.
- 1:50Speaker 2: To uh, are they only getting one? There's others of
- 1:55us who've never had one. We laughed about it.
- 1:58Speaker 1: So they they brought one and Sark ate it, carried
- 2:01it into the news conference right.
- 2:03Speaker 3: He came in with and he said, he walked in,
- 2:05he goes, I got my corn dog, y'all, and we
- 2:07all sort of laughing. And the funny part is is
- 2:09that in between questions he would sneak in a.
- 2:12Speaker 2: You would take a bit kind of smiled and.
- 2:14Speaker 3: You know, I think Thomas Chone from The Statesman was
- 2:17next to me and kind of pointing at Sark. He
- 2:19looked at us and laugh and then would take another bite,
- 2:21and Michael Taff was looking over it laughing, while Anthony
- 2:24Hill or Trey Wisener or Quinn was answering the question.
- 2:27And then when he wrapped up, he said, all right,
- 2:29I got my corn dog.
- 2:30Speaker 2: That was for y'all.
- 2:30Speaker 3: And then someone asked how was it. He goes, it
- 2:32was amazing. Then you walked that, so so that happened.
- 2:37So I said to Will we were going down. He goes, gosh, yeah,
- 2:40I s mean I didn't w I said.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Well, let's go get one, and Linda knew where to
- 2:44find that the closest, uh Fletcher's Corny dog stand. Now
- 2:47that you need to know that at the State Fair
- 2:49there's more corn dog stands than just fleshures, but Fletcher's
- 2:53is kind of the gold standard. They've been the standard bearer,
- 2:56and I said, your first one really ought to be
- 2:59from Fletcher's.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So it took a little bit.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Of walking and maneuvering to get around a lot of
- 3:02the foot traffic and a lot of the people and
- 3:04going through the midway, and that's where I saw the
- 3:07dumpling stand, and that's where I saw the the hamburger
- 3:11with the donut topping and all this different stuff. But
- 3:15we eventually we kept our eyes on the price and
- 3:17we got to the corn dog stand and we hit
- 3:20it at the perfect time.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Some people just walked away.
- 3:22Speaker 1: There was nobody getting it, so we just stepped right
- 3:24up and we got one. We chatted with the guy
- 3:26who was running the corn dog stand. Uh and then
- 3:30and and I want to tell you CB, the corn
- 3:33dog is primo. You one else was really good. I
- 3:35mentioned first hour, the lemonade is really really good. There
- 3:39I' gotten one of them. That's why it appears in
- 3:41that Instagram post there, I said. And and then when
- 3:45I also tweeted the photo, that just says better than
- 3:48a victory cigar. And I do enjoy a good scar
- 3:53on theccasion, But but after that game and it's and
- 3:58it's in the wind column on that, then absolutely I'm
- 4:02gonna want the corn dog. So it went really well,
- 4:06So happy birthday, and thanks for the nice words on
- 4:09the calls.
- 4:09Speaker 2: As we say in the business, it was a good
- 4:11horse to ride. We really enjoyed it.
- 4:12Speaker 3: A seapel asked the station lose money feeding Hard and
- 4:15Henry at.
- 4:16Speaker 2: The Stay Air. It's a fair question.
- 4:21Speaker 3: The amount tickets we went through on Saturday was an
- 4:24enormous amount. Enormous amount our guardians fan texting in today
- 4:29as well. He said, as a Guardian and Buckeyes fan,
- 4:32Saturday was a true Jeckyll and Hide sports day. By
- 4:35eleven o'clock, I did not know where my body ended
- 4:38and where the couch began. He also said for Cleveland,
- 4:42Josh Naylor needs to wake up as well. Nobody goes
- 4:44four for thirty six with twenty seven first pitch outs
- 4:47like Josh Naylor, All right, so there you are. And
- 4:52then regarding cam Rising had a couple of messages, one
- 4:56calling him a permanent student, must have ten degrees by now,
- 5:00text her saying seven years of college down the drain.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Yeah right, the great line from Animal House.
- 5:07Speaker 3: And then and the last one Craig asking if we're
- 5:10gonna talk NFL to day, but the forty nine ers
- 5:12may want to play in Dallas in two weeks instead
- 5:14of San Francisco. You're not wrong, hook him and yeah,
- 5:18oh you could have stopped Texas.
- 5:19Speaker 2: But where were you Billy Bowman. Ah, so there you go.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And remember remember Billy Bowman was a Texas commit. Yeah,
- 5:31and we had him on High School Scoreboard Live when
- 5:33he was playing at Denton.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Ryan had him on.
- 5:36Speaker 1: It was the feature and asked maat and at the time,
- 5:38he said he was still firm on his commitment. And
- 5:41then it was pointed out that his girlfriend was a
- 5:43softball player was going to Oklahoma, and he actually wobbled
- 5:46a little and.
- 5:47Speaker 2: He said, yeah, I'm still committed Texas.
- 5:49Speaker 1: And I looked at that right then, and I think
- 5:51I looked at Rick Renter as my co host and
- 5:54Greg Temper.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And I said, he's not gonna stay with Texas.
- 5:59Speaker 1: She's going to She's going to Oklahoma. He's gonna followed Oklahoma.
- 6:02And he did, and he's had a good career. He's
- 6:05just that was that was not one of his better moments.
- 6:07I mean, he had the interception, but after that, the
- 6:10comments and things like that, probably not one of his
- 6:12better moments. But we've all been there and those things
- 6:15kind of happened. Let's hear a little more from Longhorns
- 6:18head coach Steve Sarkisian uh as the Longhorns come off
- 6:25the win and get ready for the matchup with Georgia.
- 6:30Another thing that that Sark was asked about about how
- 6:35well his team plays once they are in the lead,
- 6:38and uh.
- 6:40Speaker 2: You know what, what makes a big difference for that.
- 6:42Speaker 1: And then he was asked about Leonga Lafowl who Lafowl
- 6:47got the start at linebacker and against Oklahoma instead of
- 6:54David Bendon.
- 6:54Speaker 2: I've been played a lot.
- 6:55Speaker 1: In fact, he had a he had a sack of
- 6:57the game, he had a big play in the game
- 6:58as well. But Lafowl played really really well also, And
- 7:01Sark was asked about Lafal's play and what had led
- 7:04up to him earning the start against ou.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Yeah, and we just kind of looked at, you know,
- 7:10the first five games and heading into the by and
- 7:14really felt like the combination of Leonga and Anthony together
- 7:18would free Anthony up to do a few more things,
- 7:20which I think is what we saw. It was allowed
- 7:23him to rush the passer a little bit more and
- 7:24use his versatility with Leonga having a real understanding of
- 7:29the defense in the middle there. And so I think
- 7:32that combination was good for us. You know, Leonga's earning
- 7:35that playing time, like a couple of games ago out.
- 7:38If you remember, he and Anthony were both players of
- 7:40the game for US, and they were rotating, and so
- 7:42it was like, how do we get them both on
- 7:44the field simultaneously. He's an impact player for us on
- 7:47special teams as well. And as I said before, if
- 7:51you just talk about culture on our team, this guy's elite.
- 7:55You know, he's top one, two or three, you know,
- 7:57culture teammates that that we have.
- 7:59Speaker 2: In that locker room.
- 8:00Speaker 1: We'll hear more from sarcer right, let's talk about some
- 8:03NFL here. And like he said, somebody asked about that, Wait.
- 8:07Speaker 2: A minute, and I didn't. I didn't do justice to
- 8:09our resident Guardians fan. He said.
- 8:12Speaker 1: What he was was kind of like an out of
- 8:14body experience watching what happened with the Guardians win Saturday
- 8:18followed by the Buckeyes loss.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Feel sorry for Will Howard.
- 8:24Speaker 1: He just he just got down too late, slid down
- 8:27a little bit too late, and he needed to give
- 8:30himself another and they had a time out to give.
- 8:32But the problem was going to be did he get
- 8:35could he get down in time to use the timeout?
- 8:38He understood, and he made a pointed point that they
- 8:40were not yet in feel goal range. You get that
- 8:43that's why you can't run in that situation. You got
- 8:45to throw for about fifteen yards. I thought they needed
- 8:48ten to fifteen yards and then you could still use
- 8:51the middle of the field, but they have to be
- 8:52quick and then get the time out.
- 8:54Speaker 2: All right, to the NFL.
- 8:58Speaker 1: I know you didn't watch the Cowboys, but you've seen
- 9:01all the highlight recaps, so you're.
- 9:03Speaker 3: Actually I haven't seen a single snap from the game.
- 9:06I even not even any highlights.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Okay, so how how then do you prepare yourself to
- 9:12come talk about this thing?
- 9:14Speaker 3: I know only forty seven to nine. What's to talk
- 9:17about in the Cowboys side?
- 9:18Speaker 1: Just about how dismantled they were during the course and
- 9:22disheveled and just discombobulated. It just could not get anything
- 9:27going off. And then I think the defense was worse
- 9:29than the offense.
- 9:30Speaker 3: Yeah, the defense, well, all the injuries on the defensive
- 9:33side of the ball, especially on the defensive line, and
- 9:37you know, games are won and lost in the trenches,
- 9:39and so far two of the Cowboys' biggest deficiencies have
- 9:42been the offensive line and defensive line. And if you
- 9:45removed to Marcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons from the equation. It's
- 9:50it's not going to go well, especially with how good
- 9:52of offensive line Detroit has. I mean, they may have
- 9:54the best O line in the country. So light work
- 9:59for the him on Sunday.
- 10:00Speaker 2: Light work.
- 10:01Speaker 3: I mean, if you score forty seven points the National
- 10:03Football League and correct me if I'm wrong, Craig, there
- 10:06is no special team touchdowns and there is no defensive touchdowns,
- 10:10so it all came from offense. That tells you that
- 10:12Detroit did not break us sweat. I know, I know
- 10:14Jared Goff had another perfect passer rating. That tells you
- 10:17how good Detroit Lions played passer rating.
- 10:21Speaker 1: So social media courses is a blaze, you know, with
- 10:28all of this and saying you know that Mike McCarthy's
- 10:30got to be fired, blah blah blah. You know, and
- 10:33and so we could have probably predicted this. When the
- 10:38game's over, you know, Jerry Jones is walking and walking
- 10:43down that long horder there at and T Stadium along
- 10:46outside thing and then eventually gets to a point where
- 10:49he does kind of a media briefing needs the only
- 10:51owner in the NFL who does this. But you know,
- 10:55gms do news conferences and media availabilities. And he is,
- 11:01after all, the GF, which frustrates a lot of Cowboy
- 11:03fans obviously.
- 11:05Speaker 2: But he was asking.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Now, listen, listen closely to the reporter's question about whether
- 11:11Jerry was considering or hypothetically considering making a change at
- 11:18the head coaching job.
- 11:20Speaker 2: What would it take you to evaluate making a head coaching.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Change in season?
- 11:24Speaker 5: Oh, I haven't considered that. I'm not considering that, So
- 11:28you're clear, I'm not considering that. I wouldn't be a
- 11:31hypothetical in that matter. Do you think I'm an idiot?
- 11:35Speaker 2: Do you?
- 11:36Speaker 5: Okay, well, I'm not a little hypothetical with you about
- 11:39when I'd consider coaching change, and a lot of the
- 11:42timing we're sitting here with I'm not at all.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Do you I mean, I'm not going to hypothetical with you.
- 11:51Do you think I'm an idiot? Yes? The report really
- 11:56want to answer that truthfully.
- 11:57Speaker 4: That's the thing.
- 11:58Speaker 3: Never get allowed back into another Cowboys game as a reporter.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the deal with that.
- 12:05Speaker 1: And then, uh so that's been a you know, that's
- 12:13been a big topic of conversation.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Is he gonna is he gonna, you know, make a change?
- 12:18Speaker 5: Uh?
- 12:18Speaker 1: You know, with with a coaching position. You know, we
- 12:20pointed out I guess what a couple of weeks ago
- 12:22about the possibility of uh Wade Phillips and what happened there.
- 12:29Babel Lothenburger, who of course is the analyst for the
- 12:31Cowboys and who's been on this program before, tweeted out today,
- 12:36I know emotions are running high right now for Cowboys fans, understandable,
- 12:40but they are one game behind Washington. There's six games
- 12:43into a seventeen game schedule. Calls for firing McCarthy today
- 12:47are silly. It never ever ever works to fire the
- 12:51head coach in season. Never, That was his tweet, and
- 12:57uh At Bark, long time TV critic in the Dallas
- 13:01Morning News, said, I'd say it worked in the twenty
- 13:03ten season when Wade Phillips was fired after a one
- 13:06and seven start. Replacement Jason Garrett then went five and
- 13:09three as interim head coach before being named permanent head coach.
- 13:12He's perhaps already reminded you of this. Most of the people, however,
- 13:18say it's it's.
- 13:20Speaker 3: It's not about the coach. I'll tell you this. Craig
- 13:23Bye week this week, you're three and three. Came back
- 13:25from Washington, but Dallas comes back. Let me remind folks
- 13:30of the schedule, back to back road games at San Francisco,
- 13:34who has had the Cowboys number, at Atlanta, who is
- 13:37getting better each week, home for Philadelphia, which will be
- 13:40a huge game, and then you're home for Houston and
- 13:42at Washington and the Commanders may be a top three
- 13:45team in the league. So these next five weeks, you're
- 13:48gonna real know, You're gonna know very quickly whether or
- 13:51not this Cowboys team has any hope of making the playoffs.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so I agree.
- 13:57Speaker 3: I don't think firing McCarthy or Zimmer is going to
- 13:59change in I think there's some team situations like the
- 14:02Jets or the Jaguars, when obviously they have so much
- 14:06talent and you're underperforming with that talent and there's so
- 14:09many coaching mistakes. I think this is the opposite. I
- 14:12think there's just not enough talent on this Cowboys team.
- 14:14Their biggest free agency move was signing Eric KENDRICKX, who
- 14:18has passed his prime, and Ezekiel Ed who's passed his prime.
- 14:21I don't think coaching changes anything. This all begin in
- 14:24the off season with the lack of moves that Cowboys
- 14:27made all right.
- 14:29Speaker 1: Coming up, we'll hear more from Long Warren's head coach
- 14:31Steve Sarkashan, and we'll talk more about the NFL because, like,
- 14:35for example, somebody tweeted, why do Cowboys fans ever call
- 14:39for the coach to be fired? The coaches and the
- 14:40problem never has been, never will be as long as
- 14:43the Jones family owns them. And I'm not giving Steven
- 14:45Jones a benefit of the doubt he will be more
- 14:47of the same. Maybe he will be, maybe he won't be.
- 14:53But here's my question. Why are people say, oh, fire
- 14:55the GM Jerry's gotta go. Forget that, that's never going
- 14:59to happen. Never that The only way ownership changes happen
- 15:05in the NFL is a if the owner is broke,
- 15:08we know Jerry's not broke, or b the owner does
- 15:13something criminal or something so heinoused so as to be
- 15:19smirched the league. Daniel Snyder marg shot. You know, there
- 15:24are examples of it happening, but those are more the
- 15:28exception rather than the norm.
- 15:31Speaker 3: And thinks about how long it took to get Snyder out. Yeah,
- 15:34and the owners didn't even want to really push him out.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Yeah, So folks need to just stop tweeting about that
- 15:41or wasting your energy and emotion on that. He's not
- 15:45going anywhere. And I understand the frustration if you're a
- 15:47Cowboys fan, you know, like Cam, and can't get behind
- 15:50him because of how this team is tearing out. That's
- 15:52how I was back about what ten twelve years ago,
- 15:56when Frank McCort was owning the Dodgers and running it
- 15:59into the ground until the team was stand cast and
- 16:02then the group that Magic Johnson put together basically save
- 16:05the franchise and the Cowboys are just not going to
- 16:10be different.
- 16:10Speaker 2: They're not going to change that. That is not going
- 16:13to change at.
- 16:14Speaker 1: All until it might change somewhat with Stephen Jones because
- 16:18the heat that his old.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Man is getting right now. But Jerry doesn't care.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Because the profits are still there, and if you're willing
- 16:25to pay the money and go to the games, you're
- 16:29you're lining his pockets and giving him all the more
- 16:31reason than to make a change.
- 16:32Speaker 2: All Right.
- 16:33Speaker 1: We'll hear more from Coazart coming up on Sports Radio
- 16:36AM thirteen under the Zone.
