- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the 1962 Roman Missal. The feast of Saint Anthony Mary Claret, October 23 in the year of our Lord 02/2026. Of today's saint, Reverend Hugo Hoover writes the following, Born in Salint, Spain in eighteen o seven, the son of a weaver Saint Anthony was ordained a priest in 1835. After five years he began to give missions and retreats all over Catalonia. Seeing their success and the people's need for them he founded in 1849 the Congregation of the Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Claretians, to continue this work on a wider scale.
- 1:02In that same year he was consecrated Bishop of Santiago De Cuba. Finding the diocese in a deplorable spiritual condition he quickly initiated vigorous reform measures one of which was the establishment of the teaching sisters of Mary Immaculate. In 1857 he was recalled to Spain and made the chaplain of Queen Isabella the second. This position made it possible for him to continue his mission work by preaching and publishing. He established a museum, library, schools, and a laboratory also helping to revive the Catalan language.
- 1:53He spread devotion to the Blessed Sacrament in the Immaculate Heart of Mary and after the revolution of eighteen sixty eight ended his life in exile with the Queen in 1870. He was canonized in 1950 by Pope Pius the twelfth. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen. The introit.
- 2:31Let thy priests, O Lord, be clothed with justice, and let thy saints rejoice. For thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thy anointed. O Lord, remember David and all his meekness. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 3:05Let thy priests, O Lord, be clothed with justice and let thy saints rejoice for thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thy anointed. The Collect, Let us pray. O God, with the virtues of an apostle thou didst exalt blessed Anthony Mary and through him build in thy church new religious congregations of men and women grant we pray that led by his councils and helped by his prayers we may unremittingly work for the salvation of souls through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews.
- 4:17Brethren, of other priests there was a succession, since death denied them permanence. Whereas Jesus continues forever and his priestly office is unchanging. That is why he can give eternal salvation to those who through him make their way to God. He lives on still to make intercession on our behalf. Such was the high priest that suited our need holy and guiltless and undefiled.
- 4:55Not reckoned among us sinners, lifted high above all the heavens, one who has no need to do as those other priests did, offering a twofold sacrifice day by day. First for his own sins, then for those of the people. What he has done, he has done once for all, and the offering was himself. Our Lord Jesus Christ. The gradual, I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall rejoice with exceeding great joy.
- 5:44There will I bring forth a horn to David. I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. Alleluia. Alleluia. The Lord hath sworn, and he will not repent.
- 6:00Thou art a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Alleluia. A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time Jesus told his disciples, you must be on the watch then since you do not know the hour of your Lord's coming. Be sure of this, if the master of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and not allowed his house to be broken open.
- 6:43And you too must stand ready. The son of man will come at an hour when you are not expecting him. Which of you then is a faithful and wise servant, one whom his master will entrust with the care of the household, to give them their food at the appointed time? Blessed is that servant who is found doing this when his Lord comes. I promise you, he will give him charge of all his goods.
- 7:21The offertory, my truth and my mercy shall be with him, and in my name shall his horn be exalted. THE SECRET May the annual festival of blessed Anthony Mary, thy confessor and Bishop, we beseech thee, O Lord, render us acceptable to thy loving kindness, that through these offices of pious atonement a blessed reward may attend him, and he may win for us the gifts of thy grace through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface. Just it is indeed and fitting, right in for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, the heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify.
- 8:53We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.
- 9:30The communion. Blessed is that servant who is found on the watch when his Lord comes. Amen, I say to you. He will give him charge over all his goods. The post communion.
- 9:50Let us pray. Amen. In the name of the father and of the son and of the holy ghost. Amen.
