Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Well, I really couldn't sleep here because on the West Coast,
- 0:06Speaker 1: I thought the three set thousand strikeouts from Clayton Kershaw
- 0:10Speaker 1: was going to be historic enough this season, only for
- 0:14Speaker 1: him too earlier this week, announced that he would be
- 0:17Speaker 1: retiring from the game. I believe he spent eighteen seasons
- 0:22Speaker 1: in And here's the incredible part about the career of
- 0:28Speaker 1: Clayton Kershaw. He not only won two World Series rings
- 0:38Speaker 1: through a no hitter and of course got three thousand strikeouts,
- 0:48Speaker 1: he overcame so much. I know I've talked about this before,
- 0:52Speaker 1: but it seemed like at times there was just injury
- 0:54Speaker 1: after injury that sidelined him and his greatness. But he
- 1:04Speaker 1: was able to adapt after every injury and come back stronger.
- 1:10Speaker 1: You know, I saw him stat muse tonight locally he
- 1:14Speaker 1: was eleven and oh against the Mets. Eleven and oh
- 1:18Speaker 1: against the New York Mets. That's pretty damn good. And
- 1:29Speaker 1: I love what he said to wrap up the press
- 1:31Speaker 1: conference tonight, trying to hold back all the emotions, and
- 1:35Speaker 1: you know, he's allowed to be emotional. This is a
- 1:39Speaker 1: big decision, but we all kind of knew, at least
- 1:43Speaker 1: I did that once he got the three thousand. That's
- 1:46Speaker 1: what he was hoping for, and then he would retire,
- 1:52Speaker 1: and that's what's happening. Of course, it's also fitting the
- 1:54Speaker 1: Dodgers are giving him one more chance with a playoff run.
- 1:59Speaker 1: They clinched a playof birth tonight and probably on the
- 2:01Speaker 1: way of the division again. But as I said in
- 2:09Speaker 1: my story tonight, a lot of baseball childhoods continue to
- 2:18Speaker 1: come to an end. He was there for a lot
- 2:21Speaker 1: of us while we were still in high school, through
- 2:24Speaker 1: the college years and into our twenties and thirties. Talk
- 2:34Speaker 1: about generational. That guy is generational. And I've been thinking
- 2:43Speaker 1: about this because I have a picture and you take
- 2:45Speaker 1: a look at Alex GNYC won in my Instagram, but
- 2:50Speaker 1: I have a picture with the Dodger retired numbers, and
- 2:54Speaker 1: I guess show a tay Oh Toddy will get there
- 2:58Speaker 1: one day. I mean, he's put a Ruthie and dubbers
- 3:01Speaker 1: fifty homers, fifty strikeouts in the year. He's at fifty
- 3:05Speaker 1: two homers by the way overall as he belt them
- 3:08Speaker 1: one tonight. But I don't know. I think Clayton is
- 3:19Speaker 1: the ultimate guy to get his number retired by the
- 3:23Speaker 1: Dodgers because Shoge just came into the Dodgers a couple
- 3:27Speaker 1: of years ago. Clayton's been a lifer, a lifer with
- 3:33Speaker 1: drafted by the Dodgers, start rookie season with the Dodgers,
- 3:38Speaker 1: all these accomplishments with one team Hall of Fame career
- 3:42Speaker 1: with the Dodgers. That's why I say he is the
- 3:46Speaker 1: more valuable candidate to be one of the last Dodgers
- 3:50Speaker 1: we may see in our lifetimes be retired in the
- 3:54Speaker 1: down the left field leftfield line. But now I'm in
- 3:58Speaker 1: fired to go back when they do, put up in
- 4:02Speaker 1: Clayton Kershaw and get a picture and recreate it as
- 4:07Speaker 1: he would join the likes of Coofax and Robinson and
- 4:12Speaker 1: Garvey and I'm sure and you know a lot of
- 4:21Speaker 1: the the original Brooklyn Dodgers as well. I mean, he
- 4:25Speaker 1: is part of the lineage of this Dodger team. There's
- 4:29Speaker 1: no doubt about it. So I couldn't sleep because I
- 4:35Speaker 1: wanted to cover this.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And sure enough, my last thing is my favorite Bible verse.
- 4:39Speaker 2: It's whatever you do, work at it with all your heart,
- 4:41Speaker 2: as you're working for the Lord, not for men. It's
- 4:43Speaker 2: cautions and that's what I've tried to do. Just work
- 4:46Speaker 2: at it. Just work at it and love it. And
- 4:48Speaker 2: so I'm really not sad. I'm really not. I'm really
- 4:52Speaker 2: at peace with this. It's just emotional and I've tried
- 4:56Speaker 2: to hold it together. I told our guys not to
- 4:58Speaker 2: make it weird today, so because I was going to
- 5:01Speaker 2: get weird if you make it weird, and here I
- 5:03Speaker 2: am making it weird. So that's that's all I have.
- 5:07Speaker 2: And just thank you everybody here that's covered me over
- 5:10Speaker 2: the years. I know I'm not the most fun at times,
- 5:14Speaker 2: so just just thank you for putting up with me,
- 5:16Speaker 2: and that's all I have. Thank you guys so much
- 5:19Speaker 2: for being here.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Now you know you did something right in your career
- 5:30Speaker 1: when the whole media room is clapping for you, that
- 5:35Speaker 1: is members of the media clapping for Clayton Kerschew. I mean,
- 5:40Speaker 1: how cool is that? How cool is that? And by
- 5:46Speaker 1: the way, that was shared by Michael Beer b I
- 5:50Speaker 1: E R Michael you Beer, Sorry Michael J. Beer a
- 5:58Speaker 1: foul Territory TV and he posted that.
- 6:04Speaker 3: From the media room, So there you have it. His
- 6:12Speaker 3: final Dodger Stadium starts in an illustrious career, Hall of
- 6:17Speaker 3: Fame career, and I've been thinking about this because ultimately
- 6:25Speaker 3: Vin Scully, if they were to name the field, should
- 6:27Speaker 3: be Vin Scullyfield.
- 6:27Speaker 1: I don't think they've done that yet, but something's got
- 6:31Speaker 1: to go up there in the honor of Clayton Kershaw.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Maybe a Kershaw corner, you know near the Dodger bopen
- 6:38Speaker 1: we were to warm up before every start. How about
- 6:41Speaker 1: that a Kershaw corner to really cement the and show
- 6:48Speaker 1: generations after us what an amazing player and a great
- 6:52Speaker 1: person Clayton Kershaw has been for the game of baseball.
- 7:00Speaker 1: He never seemed to be a guy that was flashy
- 7:03Speaker 1: or in your face. After every strikeout, he would get
- 7:06Speaker 1: the strikeout and walk off the mound like it was
- 7:09Speaker 1: another day at the office. He never did this to
- 7:15Speaker 1: be a hot dog. He did this because he loved
- 7:17Speaker 1: the game for the love of the game. And it
- 7:21Speaker 1: showed tonight in those remarks, didn't it. He even talked
- 7:26Speaker 1: about how God using his talent for this Dodger community.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And I know over the years it had been heartbreak
- 7:40Speaker 1: at times, the early exits, the World Series losses, but
- 7:52Speaker 1: in the last five years they've won two and I
- 7:56Speaker 1: know they beat the Yanks last year, earned that World
- 8:01Speaker 1: Series and Kirshaw earned that ring, didn't he. So I
- 8:07Speaker 1: think today and this week he felt it was time.
- 8:13Speaker 1: And look, we played the audio of his kids running
- 8:15Speaker 1: in to see him after the three thousand strikeout. He
- 8:17Speaker 1: has little kids. He's going to be a dad too
- 8:21Speaker 1: now and watch them grow up, most likely in sports,
- 8:26Speaker 1: and raise them up to be, you know, great citizens
- 8:36Speaker 1: and whatnot. But I love guys like this. I love
- 8:40Speaker 1: when they're just put their head down, pitch hit. Even
- 8:46Speaker 1: catchers will just go there and do their job as if.
- 8:52Speaker 4: It doesn't phase them, it doesn't get weird, as Clayton
- 8:57Speaker 4: was saying, So congratulations in Clayton Kershaw, and only tonight
- 9:05Speaker 4: and only your eighteen year career, and only your future
- 9:10Speaker 4: Hall of Fame selection.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I know you're gonna get there, but congrats on doing
- 9:17Speaker 1: the game right every time out and the ability to
- 9:23Speaker 1: bounce back from those injuries has been a storyline because
- 9:28Speaker 1: you've adapted as well and wanted it, just like you
- 9:34Speaker 1: won two World Series rings with a team you've been
- 9:38Speaker 1: on your entire life. I know Dodger Town will not
- 9:43Speaker 1: be the same. Vin Scully Avenue will not be the same,
- 9:49Speaker 1: Dodger Stadium will not be the same, But it's because
- 9:55Speaker 1: of what you did the last eighteen years that has
- 9:58Speaker 1: built up that already historic franchise into a franchise. I
- 10:05Speaker 1: get sellouts, that gets postseason appearances, and that does at
- 10:14Speaker 1: least twice in the last five years, get you a
- 10:17Speaker 1: World Series. You've been a driving force in that. So congrats.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I'm making an impact. I'm being all around decent and yes,
- 10:32Speaker 1: godly and I would say spiritual in a way baseball player,
- 10:39Speaker 1: an ambassador to Major League Baseball. And so in honor
- 10:43Speaker 1: of Clayton Kersher retiring and having his last start, I
- 10:48Speaker 1: want to kick off my Fanatics creator position now there's
- 10:54Speaker 1: a new title in town by offering you a Clayton
- 11:01Speaker 1: Kershaw you know Jersey from my Fanatics affiliate link. It's
- 11:10Speaker 1: the only right way to do it because you have
- 11:13Speaker 1: the biggest story in baseball right now. And I'm gonna
- 11:20Speaker 1: stay in that trend and promote Clayton, just like I
- 11:26Speaker 1: promoted tcsabath The's Hall of Fame Jersey and Jersey. Gonna
- 11:30Speaker 1: do the same thing for Clayton. And if you do buy,
- 11:33Speaker 1: I am very fortunate that I do get commission, and
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'm very thankful to Wade and everybody that's supporting me
- 11:43Speaker 1: along the way to be a Fanatics creator that feels
- 11:48Speaker 1: like a next level beyond just an affiliate, a creator
- 11:52Speaker 1: for them now. And what's the first thing I want
- 11:55Speaker 1: to do. I want to create that link for you
- 12:03Speaker 1: and create a promo for Clayton Kershaw, who is the
- 12:11Speaker 1: man of the night. And I know again, I know,
- 12:14Speaker 1: Show Hey has someone he's done, but Clayton Kershaw right
- 12:18Speaker 1: now is the man of the year in Major League
- 12:22Speaker 1: Baseball because of what he's accomplished and been able to accomplish.
- 12:27Speaker 1: And if he gets a third World Series this year. Look,
- 12:30Speaker 1: they're in the playoffs and I think it happened, I
- 12:32Speaker 1: would say, continues to accomplish. So let me see how
- 12:37Speaker 1: October plays out. But I'm going to offer up a
- 12:42Speaker 1: promo for Clayton Kershaw and yet Dodgers Stadium make a
- 12:49Speaker 1: Kursehaw corner. I think that would be pretty neat. I
- 12:55Speaker 1: think that would be pretty neat. On one leg up
- 12:59Speaker 1: with Alex, Congratulations Clayton, and we'll be rooting for you
- 13:05Speaker 1: the rest of the way, because, man, you there's a
- 13:10Speaker 1: guy who deserves to go out with a ring. An
- 13:13Speaker 1: I am a Yankee fan saying this full disclosure, but
- 13:16Speaker 1: it would be you. It would be you. Can they
- 13:24Speaker 1: do it? I think d NL is very competitive and
- 13:28Speaker 1: the ALE is very competitive. But how interesting would it
- 13:33Speaker 1: be is if you had Clayton and then cow Rally,
- 13:37Speaker 1: who's been the man of the year on the American
- 13:39Speaker 1: League side, facing off in a World Series game. I
- 13:45Speaker 1: would buy. I would Well, we've got a long way
- 13:51Speaker 1: to go before that, so let's take a one game
- 13:54Speaker 1: at a time and right now honor Clayton with this
- 13:58Speaker 1: promotion from the Fanatics World as Fanatics Friday. It goes
- 14:05Speaker 1: into Fanatics Saturday, but Clayton Kershaw throwing his last pitch
- 14:13Speaker 1: on Finax Friday, September nineteenth, twenty twenty five,
