- 0:32Speaker 4: Right, I think it was week bore Right.
- 0:34Speaker 5: It's disrespectful.
- 0:37Speaker 1: The comment.

- 1:06Speaker 2: I was right on the thirty burger last time. I'm
- 1:09Speaker 2: going to be right on the forty steak this time.
- 1:13Speaker 2: It's not a burger It's a steak forty one ten Patriots.
- 1:16Speaker 2: This is Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota's official website for

- 1:25Speaker 1: Folks.
- 1:27Speaker 2: For the second time this season, I am guaranteeing a
- 1:31Speaker 2: Patriots win. And not only am I guaranteeing a win,
- 1:34Speaker 2: I'm guaranteeing a blowout forty one ten Patriots.
- 1:41Speaker 1: I was right on the thirty burger last time.
- 1:44Speaker 2: I'm going to be right on the forty steak manifest
- 1:48Speaker 2: this time.
- 1:49Speaker 1: It's not a burger, it's a steak.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Okay, you're right, you're right.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:57Speaker 2: It is Tuesday here at a Less Stadium, and we're
- 2:01Speaker 2: all a buzz because we're coming off a big win,
- 2:05Speaker 2: one of the best wins we've had just in terms
- 2:07Speaker 2: of fun in a long time, much needed home win
- 2:11Speaker 2: here at Jillette Stadium.
- 2:13Speaker 1: What was the score again, forty two to thirteen.
- 2:17Speaker 5: Something like that, very very close to what you pointed
- 2:20Speaker 5: at this something like.
- 2:21Speaker 1: That, something like that.
- 2:22Speaker 2: And I think there's a lot of good stuff coming
- 2:26Speaker 2: out of it, a lot of stuff we need to
- 2:27Speaker 2: work on, understandably, but everything is coming up roses right now.
- 2:32Speaker 2: And we're getting ready for the Bills. But we're going
- 2:35Speaker 2: to talk about that win. We're going to talk about
- 2:37Speaker 2: what they need to work on. What were the good
- 2:39Speaker 2: things that came out of that game, notably Drake May
- 2:43Speaker 2: just continuing his progression I think, in my opinion, dominanding,
- 2:49Speaker 2: dominant and sending.
- 2:51Speaker 1: I mean, the league's taking notice.
- 2:54Speaker 2: I mean they've suddenly realized that we might have taken
- 2:57Speaker 2: the best quarterback out of the bunch a couple of
- 2:59Speaker 2: year years ago.
- 3:01Speaker 5: So, Paul, you're not telling me things that I haven't
- 3:05Speaker 5: said in the past.
- 3:06Speaker 2: He's not going to go trying to get him to go,
- 3:09Speaker 2: but we'll get him going.
- 3:11Speaker 5: You pick one thing, we'll get there later.
- 3:15Speaker 1: All right.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Uh, it's Duce, it's Evan, it's Paul, it's me, it's Matt.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Now it's in the boat and uh, this is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Uh So where do we start, I mean, Drake?
- 3:27Speaker 1: To start with Drake, Well, that's the biggest thing.
- 3:29Speaker 3: I Look, we don't expect to go to the super
- 3:32Speaker 3: Bowl this season, but we're trying to.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Take a well maybe we're not there yet.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Wow, I'm not even saying that that's of positivity.
- 3:40Speaker 1: But this was the biggest thing for this season.
- 3:42Speaker 3: You need a quarterback in this league to compete and
- 3:44Speaker 3: to feel like this kid is.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Starting to push the ball down the field.
- 3:48Speaker 3: They're starting to make explosives, x'es, chunkies, whatever you want
- 3:51Speaker 3: to call them. Look, you watch some of the other
- 3:54Speaker 3: game around the league every week, there are the good
- 3:56Speaker 3: teams put up points consistently, and if you can't score
- 4:00Speaker 3: and you're not gonna win consistently. And that's the trajectory
- 4:04Speaker 3: that they're headed now. Look it's four games and not
- 4:07Speaker 3: exactly a murderer's row, but you want to be the
- 4:09Speaker 3: best of the bad teams.
- 4:10Speaker 1: This year, and so far they are not.
- 4:12Speaker 3: So far, I would just say last week they showed
- 4:14Speaker 3: that they can be better than a bad team.
- 4:16Speaker 1: It's got to continue. You can look forward down the line.
- 4:18Speaker 3: They're four more games against teams that haven't won a
- 4:20Speaker 3: game yet, not penciling in any wins. But it's extremely
- 4:23Speaker 3: encouraging when your quarterback is making it drives.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You know, you started off last year with that great
- 4:27Speaker 2: win against Cincinnati, but we all said gold that was
- 4:31Speaker 2: that's hard to sustain the way they won that game.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I think what we saw on Sunday is sustainable. I'm
- 4:37Speaker 2: not saying forty points every I'm talking about the style
- 4:39Speaker 2: of play with the offense.
- 4:42Speaker 1: I think that's sustainable.
- 4:43Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean they've been doing it for three weeks
- 4:45Speaker 7: in a row.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Really yeah.
- 4:46Speaker 7: I mean, I know they turned the ball over like
- 4:48Speaker 7: crazy against Pittsburgh, but they still moved the ball in
- 4:51Speaker 7: the same fashion that they did against Miami and against Carolina.
- 4:55Speaker 7: I mean, look, you can put the caveats out there
- 4:57Speaker 7: that they haven't played faced really a murders around of defenses.
- 5:01Speaker 7: All four of these defenses so far are bottom half
- 5:04Speaker 7: of the league and most of the metrics. But do
- 5:08Speaker 7: you make them look like bottom half of the league defenses?
- 5:11Speaker 7: And that's what Drake May has done. He's made three
- 5:14Speaker 7: teams in a row now, he has really moved the
- 5:17Speaker 7: ball through the year at will against all three teams.
- 5:20Speaker 7: He's third in the league right now and pass epa
- 5:22Speaker 7: third in the league. Like that's incredible for a guy
- 5:26Speaker 7: four games into his second season that frankly is not
- 5:29Speaker 7: really surrounded by the best supporting cast just yet. Like,
- 5:33Speaker 7: I don't think it's like the Patriots have, you know,
- 5:35Speaker 7: all these weapons that he's throwing to this marriage between
- 5:39Speaker 7: Drake May and Josh McDaniels is off to an unbelievable start.
- 5:43Speaker 7: And it started slow in week one where he had
- 5:46Speaker 7: some concerns there. But the last three weeks there's the
- 5:50Speaker 7: things that they are doing. I didn't even know McDaniels
- 5:52Speaker 7: had in his bag, frankly, and now they're pulling all
- 5:55Speaker 7: these different things out to amplify Drake May's skill set.
- 5:59Speaker 7: I mean, it's been it's been fun to watch, like
- 6:02Speaker 7: it's their offensive tape from this game particularly is just
- 6:06Speaker 7: as clean as I've seen in probably three or four years.
- 6:09Speaker 5: It's awesome.
- 6:10Speaker 2: And you mentioned weapons something one of your guys said
- 6:13Speaker 2: that I agree with. If Tony the emergence of Diggs
- 6:18Speaker 2: was one of the huge things coming out of that game.
- 6:20Speaker 5: I would agree because if you can have we've been
- 6:22Speaker 5: talking about how much a number one receiver could help
- 6:26Speaker 5: Drake May in his development, and what Evan just said
- 6:28Speaker 5: is absolutely right in terms of the cast as a whole.
- 6:32Speaker 5: But if you have one guy who can be a
- 6:37Speaker 5: threat no matter what the other team's going to do, right,
- 6:40Speaker 5: and I think we've seen Diggs throughout his career be
- 6:43Speaker 5: that guy. Doesn't matter if you try to take him
- 6:44Speaker 5: out of the game. He can still make an impact
- 6:47Speaker 5: on the game right now. I'm not telling you one
- 6:49Speaker 5: game says that that's what he's going to be the
- 6:50Speaker 5: rest of the season. But that's a great sign to see.
- 6:54Speaker 5: I think three of his six catches were you know,
- 6:57Speaker 5: twenty twenty.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Five eight, not just the little underneath stuff.
- 6:59Speaker 5: You get the all downfield a little bit. I absolutely
- 7:02Speaker 5: loved the fourth down play, the back shoulder down the sideline.
- 7:07Speaker 5: You're seeing him make some plays. I think you're seeing
- 7:10Speaker 5: some trust between the quarterback and the receiver. They're getting
- 7:15Speaker 5: on the same page. Those those kinds of plays require
- 7:19Speaker 5: trust in reps, in sort of rapport, and that play,
- 7:25Speaker 5: to me was was one of the best things that
- 7:27Speaker 5: I again.
- 7:28Speaker 2: What the number of targets that he's thrown to dig
- 7:30Speaker 2: so far, but he's only not caught two of them.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Yeah, out of all the targets.
- 7:34Speaker 5: It might be three, but I mean, yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 7: Highest completion rate in the NFL right now amongst wide receivers. Yeah,
- 7:40Speaker 7: so he's catching everything that's being thrown his way. But
- 7:43Speaker 7: the biggest thing is what Paul said this week. His
- 7:46Speaker 7: average air yards in the air goes up to thirteen
- 7:49Speaker 7: per catch last week. First three weeks it was only
- 7:52Speaker 7: around six. So they targeted him down the field more.
- 7:54Speaker 5: That's all.
- 7:55Speaker 7: It was like they just because the same amount of targets,
- 7:57Speaker 7: the same amount of targets, its bigger chunks routes from
- 8:00Speaker 7: the same spots, just targeting him down the field more
- 8:04Speaker 7: and opening up the passing game. And I think the
- 8:07Speaker 7: biggest thing too with Diggs is they had Mike Jackson,
- 8:10Speaker 7: the cornerback for the Panthers, was on him, and yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 7: that was not an even fight. And so if they
- 8:16Speaker 7: have to start dictating matchups with Diggs, where they go
- 8:21Speaker 7: into the game and they say, we need to put
- 8:23Speaker 7: our number one corner on Stefan Diggs, because if we
- 8:26Speaker 7: put our scrub corner on Stefan Diggs, it's gonna be
- 8:29Speaker 7: six for one hundred and one. We're gonna be in trouble.
- 8:32Speaker 7: Then that has the whole pecking order thing that we
- 8:34Speaker 7: always talk about, like the coverage dictating receiver. So this
- 8:37Speaker 7: week against Buffalo, does Christian Benford travel with Stefan Diggs. Well,
- 8:42Speaker 7: if he does, now, Keishaan Boudi has matchups, Matt Collins
- 8:45Speaker 7: has matchups. Pop Douglas if he gets back in there,
- 8:48Speaker 7: as matchups. So it just puts everybody back into the
- 8:52Speaker 7: pecking order, if you will, because you can't just put
- 8:55Speaker 7: your backup, second string corner against Diggs. He's gonna torch
- 8:58Speaker 7: that guy.
- 8:59Speaker 3: That's where I kept going back to and Fred, it's
- 9:00Speaker 3: your thing. It's very easy to defend in the past.
- 9:02Speaker 3: And I don't know what level Digs is going to
- 9:04Speaker 3: be Evan's right, but now you've pushed the ball down
- 9:07Speaker 3: the field a little bit, you're starting to see him
- 9:09Speaker 3: emerge secondary targets. Who's going to start to emerge and
- 9:12Speaker 3: make those big catches. We didn't really see it last week.
- 9:14Speaker 3: It was kind of all Digs. You know, you got
- 9:16Speaker 3: Hunter Henry, but we'd love to see Booty or Williams
- 9:19Speaker 3: or Hollins maybe increase their contributions a little bit.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Yeah, And the reason why I really liked the whole
- 9:24Speaker 5: development with Diggs is again going back to what Evan's
- 9:28Speaker 5: talking about with Josh McDaniels helping Drake May and we
- 9:31Speaker 5: have seen it like, you know, the first scoring drive,
- 9:34Speaker 5: you know it was seven to six after the punt return,
- 9:36Speaker 5: the first play is you know, your leak Hooper out
- 9:39Speaker 5: for a total scheme play, right, you're catching them off guard.
- 9:43Speaker 5: You get like twenty four yards to get the drive started.
- 9:46Speaker 5: And we've seen a lot of those plays and I'm
- 9:47Speaker 5: not saying, oh, geez, Paul, why are you upset about those?
- 9:51Speaker 5: Those are great, But at some point you use all
- 9:55Speaker 5: of those, the other team knows that you're doing those,
- 9:57Speaker 5: and they're going to start to take them away, you know,
- 9:59Speaker 5: some some of those little wrinkles here and there. If
- 10:03Speaker 5: Diggs can be what he was, but you're not taking
- 10:05Speaker 5: that back shoal to play away, You're not. He's better
- 10:09Speaker 5: than the guy who's covering him a lot of times. Yeah,
- 10:12Speaker 5: and Drake May, I think, is getting to the point
- 10:15Speaker 5: where he's going to be too good to take that away.
- 10:18Speaker 5: And I'm much more excited about that development than anything else.
- 10:22Speaker 5: I love the schemes. I love, you know, scheming guys
- 10:25Speaker 5: open the way Sean McVay and Evan's boy Kyle Shanahan do.
- 10:29Speaker 5: I love those. But at some point you have to
- 10:32Speaker 5: just be able to line up and they know what's
- 10:34Speaker 5: coming and you need to be able to execute it.
- 10:36Speaker 5: And there was some signs that they could execute some
- 10:39Speaker 5: offense conventionally, not just you know, wow, they really caught
- 10:43Speaker 5: him on that one. Like Evan said, Diggs was just
- 10:46Speaker 5: better than the guy who was covering him.
- 10:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I found myself there in the game sometimes like
- 10:49Speaker 3: reverting back to my mindset of the last couple of
- 10:51Speaker 3: seasons where it would be like a third and seven
- 10:54Speaker 3: or third and long and you're like, hey, that's going
- 10:57Speaker 3: to be a grind trying to pick this up, and
- 10:58Speaker 3: they're starting to make those plays.
- 11:00Speaker 5: That is the one thing about this game. They really
- 11:02Speaker 5: didn't have any of those then. I think one third
- 11:04Speaker 5: and long in the whole game, you're feeling, Okay, you
- 11:07Speaker 5: sound a little horse.
- 11:08Speaker 2: You're going to explain it to you got a young
- 11:11Speaker 2: match toys r us again or not.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Toys r us?
- 11:16Speaker 2: Oh really road rage, Perilla really a little bit road
- 11:20Speaker 2: rage a little bit.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Oh boy, oh boy, we're gonna have to hear that.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Maybe second half of the show.
- 11:26Speaker 5: That's for another time. Okay, it was. It was actually
- 11:29Speaker 5: kind of a funny story. But yeah, I'm not not
- 11:31Speaker 5: sick at all. I just kind of I'm a little horse.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Okay, all right.
- 11:35Speaker 2: The other story going into the game that we got
- 11:38Speaker 2: an answer coming out of the game was Ramandre Stevenson,
- 11:41Speaker 2: what will be his role. He ended up with the
- 11:43Speaker 2: most reps for any running back in the game right
- 11:48Speaker 2: off the bat. And you know, we'll see what happens
- 11:53Speaker 2: that that story is not ended, but at least for
- 11:55Speaker 2: that game, he rewarded Mike Rabel for his confident in him,
- 12:00Speaker 2: in his trust.
- 12:01Speaker 5: Yeah, a little bit.
- 12:03Speaker 7: They did change his role, Like he didn't get the
- 12:05Speaker 7: goal line carries in this game, true, so that that
- 12:07Speaker 7: piece of it got moved to Gibson and Travon Henderson
- 12:10Speaker 7: who both scored on the goal line, So he fumbled
- 12:13Speaker 7: on the goal line. And I think that they took
- 12:15Speaker 7: that away from him in this game. So I wouldn't
- 12:17Speaker 7: say that it wasn't completely unchanged. You know, he definitely
- 12:22Speaker 7: played the most and he had the most touches. But
- 12:25Speaker 7: I think that is a big development just in terms
- 12:27Speaker 7: of where they see the risks of him in terms
- 12:31Speaker 7: of his ball security really popping up, which is like
- 12:34Speaker 7: in those tight spaces down by the goal line. So
- 12:37Speaker 7: that that whole room though, you know, the whole running
- 12:39Speaker 7: back room, and I was talking to Deuce about this
- 12:41Speaker 7: earlier off the air. They need more out of that
- 12:44Speaker 7: running back room. They are dead last in the league
- 12:46Speaker 7: right now. In rush EPA. They're the worst rushing offense
- 12:49Speaker 7: in the NFL. They need to run the ball more,
- 12:51Speaker 7: and that's including Drake may running right like he's running
- 12:56Speaker 7: very successfully, and they still don't run the ball well.
- 12:59Speaker 7: So they to run the ball better, especially this week
- 13:02Speaker 7: against Buffalo, Like you don't want to get into a
- 13:04Speaker 7: drop back pass game against the Bills in that defense.
- 13:07Speaker 7: So that that's like the one out of all the
- 13:11Speaker 7: good things that they've done on offense, I think that's
- 13:13Speaker 7: the one the area that needs to improve well to.
- 13:16Speaker 3: Go on what your point about, It needs to be
- 13:18Speaker 3: the running backs to not necessarily the blocking.
- 13:21Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I mean, like all the metrics support that
- 13:23Speaker 7: the blocking has been decent, And so I went back
- 13:26Speaker 7: and watched all the carries on Sunday because sometimes I
- 13:30Speaker 7: think that it's a little bit, uh, you know, bottled up,
- 13:32Speaker 7: But really they're running a lot of outside zone and
- 13:35Speaker 7: duo and in those schemes like that, the read is
- 13:38Speaker 7: on the running back to make the second level of
- 13:41Speaker 7: the defense wrong. So when the linebacker goes and fills
- 13:44Speaker 7: a gap, he's supposed to cut off that linebacker into
- 13:47Speaker 7: the open space on the field. So it's a lot
- 13:50Speaker 7: more of the running back at the controls than an
- 13:53Speaker 7: old Josh McDaniel's offenses. You know, when they run those
- 13:56Speaker 7: gap schemes, they're really just following the full back right,
- 13:59Speaker 7: Like the full back is going to lead through the
- 14:01Speaker 7: hole up to the second level and you're just going
- 14:03Speaker 7: to run right behind the full back. Now they're in
- 14:05Speaker 7: a little bit more of like a scan or vision
- 14:08Speaker 7: situation with the running backs, and right now they're twenty
- 14:11Speaker 7: seventh in the league and yards after contact per rush
- 14:15Speaker 7: that they're not really avoiding tackles, they're not avoiding crowds,
- 14:19Speaker 7: they're not seeing the cutback lanes as consistently as you'd
- 14:21Speaker 7: like to see. So I'm not putting it all on
- 14:23Speaker 7: the running backs. I think some of the blocking could
- 14:25Speaker 7: definitely improve, but I think they need more just in general,
- 14:30Speaker 7: out of that phase because they're not going to be
- 14:31Speaker 7: able to beat a team like Buffalo being one dimensional
- 14:34Speaker 7: if you can't run the football.
- 14:36Speaker 1: It would help if they don't fall behind right away.
- 14:39Speaker 5: Well, the start is important, but I would also say
- 14:43Speaker 5: the two best offensive games they had were Miami and
- 14:46Speaker 5: this one, and they were able to only throw the
- 14:49Speaker 5: ball twenty times. Right, So, whether it's tremendous production in
- 14:54Speaker 5: the ground game, and I certainly wouldn't quibble with your
- 14:57Speaker 5: assessment of the production. They did all better than four
- 15:01Speaker 5: yards to carry this particular week. Yes, I think they
- 15:03Speaker 5: ran it well enough. I don't think it was great.
- 15:06Speaker 5: I'm not. It's not, you know, necessarily.
- 15:10Speaker 7: Well, I would also like take the jet sweeps out right,
- 15:12Speaker 7: Like the jet sweeps to me are not conventional runs.
- 15:16Speaker 7: So like they and Henderson, but Givin, but Gibson and
- 15:20Speaker 7: Stevenson on getting jet sweeps, Well, Gibson got one on
- 15:23Speaker 7: Sunday and got twenty and then that's set up their
- 15:26Speaker 7: best run on the next play.
- 15:29Speaker 5: So that was their whole run.
- 15:30Speaker 7: Game was those two plays.
- 15:33Speaker 5: Sometimes it's just it's not that it's the everything sucks wrong.
- 15:40Speaker 5: It's not the end of the world.
- 15:41Speaker 7: I just look at when they get into games like
- 15:43Speaker 7: a team against the Bills, where the Bills have a
- 15:46Speaker 7: great pass defense, and you do not want to get
- 15:49Speaker 7: into a track meet with Josh Allen, like you do
- 15:51Speaker 7: not want to try to outscore Josh Allen. So if
- 15:54Speaker 7: you can win this game on Sunday, you got to
- 15:56Speaker 7: shorten the game and you gotta possess the football.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Both teams really want to kind of play the same
- 16:01Speaker 5: way Buffalo the last year plus. Now Josh Allen's like
- 16:07Speaker 5: twenty five throws and they keep it low.
- 16:10Speaker 8: Now.
- 16:10Speaker 5: The difference with Josh Allen is they're going to bake
- 16:12Speaker 5: in I don't know a half dozen at least designed
- 16:15Speaker 5: runs for him, and that's a big part of their offense.
- 16:17Speaker 5: But James Cook is really kind of the engine. Now,
- 16:20Speaker 5: I mean you can get to know. Do you want
- 16:22Speaker 5: to continue with Carolina? I mean it was such a bue. Yeah,
- 16:25Speaker 5: you want to wait for tomorrow? Ready to turn the page.
- 16:28Speaker 4: No.
- 16:28Speaker 7: The only reason why I brought it up is because
- 16:30Speaker 7: like they I mean I would say not the Thursday,
- 16:32Speaker 7: like they should beat teams like Carolina, like.
- 16:34Speaker 5: This is not this is not where the bar.
- 16:36Speaker 2: I know you say that, but teams just up up
- 16:40Speaker 2: until last week, teams there same we should beat the Patriots.
- 16:43Speaker 5: So I totally agree, and if I want to stay consistent.
- 16:47Speaker 5: The reason why I am as optimistic today, well I
- 16:50Speaker 5: should say more optimistic today about the rest of the
- 16:53Speaker 5: season than I was before the game is because of
- 16:56Speaker 5: the way they won the game. That mattered to me
- 16:59Speaker 5: and we all would have said they have to win
- 17:02Speaker 5: this game right going into the game, doesn't matter. They
- 17:04Speaker 5: have to win the game, got to win a home game,
- 17:07Speaker 5: got to beat teams like Carolina at home. I haven't
- 17:09Speaker 5: just said it. You can't lose this game. I agree,
- 17:13Speaker 5: But if they wanted seventeen thirteen and we're like plus
- 17:15Speaker 5: three in the turnover margin, I don't think I'd feel
- 17:18Speaker 5: very good about it. I now look at that game,
- 17:22Speaker 5: and I look ahead and I see New Orleans, Tennessee
- 17:26Speaker 5: and Cleveland coming in that close proximity coming out. I
- 17:31Speaker 5: now look at those three games and say, as long
- 17:33Speaker 5: as the Patriots don't do anything to beat themselves, they
- 17:36Speaker 5: should be able to win all three of those games.
- 17:39Speaker 5: I didn't say that going in. Yeah, but now when
- 17:42Speaker 5: I see when the Patriots play well, there's a gap
- 17:46Speaker 5: between the bottom teams and the league in them.
- 17:49Speaker 7: Which is what you want to do. You wanted to
- 17:50Speaker 7: see that separation, Yeah.
- 17:52Speaker 5: And I saw it. And my whole caveat all off
- 17:55Speaker 5: season was really Drake May. Drake May makes that second
- 18:01Speaker 5: year leap and starts playing at a higher level, in
- 18:04Speaker 5: a different level, then there's different expectations and it's only
- 18:08Speaker 5: one month. I get it. I'm not trying to like
- 18:11Speaker 5: get lost and say, I see, I told you so.
- 18:14Speaker 5: But Drake May has ascended to a different level than
- 18:16Speaker 5: we saw last year. The last three games have been
- 18:19Speaker 5: much better.
- 18:20Speaker 2: The other thing coming out of this game that was
- 18:22Speaker 2: a story obviously going in was turnovers, and there weren't any.
- 18:25Speaker 1: Yep. Yeah, so that's a huge thing.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Rabel said yesterday, I just you know,
- 18:32Speaker 3: to get through a game without any turnovers?
- 18:34Speaker 1: What does that feel like?
- 18:35Speaker 3: I'm sure the message coming out of two weeks ago
- 18:38Speaker 3: was hey, what does it look like when we don't
- 18:39Speaker 3: turn the ball over?
- 18:40Speaker 1: And now you have some valad and you see what
- 18:41Speaker 1: it looks like.
- 18:42Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean the first third down throw was tipped
- 18:46Speaker 7: up in the air and got a little iffy there,
- 18:48Speaker 7: but I thought, you know, that was it. Drake Lake
- 18:51Speaker 7: threw it kind of like he thought Booty was sort
- 18:53Speaker 7: of going to settle in that spot, and Booty kept
- 18:55Speaker 7: running the inkuite. I don't know who was necessarily wrong there,
- 18:59Speaker 7: but it just didn't look right.
- 19:01Speaker 5: But even that was not what.
- 19:04Speaker 7: We saw last week, where you know, they're throwing the
- 19:06Speaker 7: ball right to the other team type turnovers, and like
- 19:09Speaker 7: I said, there's all of it the cleanliness of the execution,
- 19:14Speaker 7: you know, the pass protection, the spacing, the decision making
- 19:19Speaker 7: by the quarterback, the levels that they have to their
- 19:21Speaker 7: route concepts. Like it looks on tape like a functional
- 19:26Speaker 7: NFL offense and that just makes me so happy. Like
- 19:31Speaker 7: I've been waiting years for this. I've been waiting for this.
- 19:34Speaker 1: I was thinking of you of it.
- 19:35Speaker 3: And that's like you get educated watching bad football and
- 19:38Speaker 3: understanding things like spacing. Like remember over the last couple
- 19:41Speaker 3: of years, how that was like a big talking point
- 19:43Speaker 3: at various times where like they're right on top of
- 19:45Speaker 3: each other. This offense isn't coordinated, you know, with Tom
- 19:48Speaker 3: Brady run and things for twenty years, it's never even
- 19:49Speaker 3: crossed your mind of like, well they're not in the
- 19:51Speaker 3: right spacing, Like, of course they are, but you have
- 19:54Speaker 3: to experience the bad to now understand, you know, some
- 19:57Speaker 3: of the nuance to what's improving and what's getting better.
- 20:00Speaker 7: Yeah, the throw to Hunter Henry that he had down
- 20:02Speaker 7: in the red zone, that third downplay a little I
- 20:05Speaker 7: don't know how he's Texas route, yeah, man, he like
- 20:09Speaker 7: that route only works if mac Collins takes the linebacker
- 20:13Speaker 7: on the under and so or is that. I think
- 20:15Speaker 7: that was actually awesome Hooper. And then they came back
- 20:17Speaker 7: to almost an identical play on mac Collins's touchdown later on,
- 20:22Speaker 7: and they jumped hunter Henry thinking they were going to
- 20:25Speaker 7: throw it the Hunter again and they ended up throwing
- 20:27Speaker 7: the under that time to Matt Collins. And it's like
- 20:30Speaker 7: those little elements of like levels and spacing and just
- 20:33Speaker 7: concepts that look the same but aren't exactly the same,
- 20:36Speaker 7: Like that's what good offenses do.
- 20:38Speaker 5: That's what that's how good offense.
- 20:41Speaker 2: And then the throw itself, even though it was a
- 20:43Speaker 2: short throw, it was a difficult throwing the other way.
- 20:47Speaker 5: You guys are talking about two different plays. Oh are
- 20:50Speaker 5: you talking about the one in the red zone like
- 20:52Speaker 5: by that he got stopped in the one I'm.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Talking about the one where he's rolling.
- 20:56Speaker 5: I thought you were talking about two different talking about
- 20:59Speaker 5: different plays. Oh yeah, I mean that one.
- 21:01Speaker 7: You know, those types of things in terms of like
- 21:03Speaker 7: the Henry's touchdown, Like I just I would love to
- 21:08Speaker 7: sit down with McDaniels and be like, where did where
- 21:11Speaker 7: did this come from? Because you can't run that with
- 21:13Speaker 7: Tom Brady. And that's not a knock on Brady. It's
- 21:16Speaker 7: just not his game, Like he's just not mobile enough
- 21:18Speaker 7: to get out of the pocket and make that kind
- 21:21Speaker 7: of throw. So this is all different type of stuff
- 21:25Speaker 7: that Josh is now installing with Drake may like that he.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Did learn something last year in his little college tour.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Maybe. I mean, I don't want to college offenses working
- 21:34Speaker 5: in the NFL sunk it.
- 21:37Speaker 7: I don't want to like speculate on where it came from.
- 21:39Speaker 7: But you know they're they're moving the pocket both in
- 21:42Speaker 7: the gun and from under center on the keepers, like
- 21:44Speaker 7: they're doing things that they just didn't do with Brady
- 21:48Speaker 7: and mac Jones, Like this just didn't exist and Cam
- 21:51Speaker 7: really couldn't do it because he didn't have He didn't
- 21:53Speaker 7: wasn't the thrower that you know he needed to be.
- 21:55Speaker 7: So you have all these different elements. You know, they're
- 21:58Speaker 7: running like they ran counter bash in this game, which
- 22:00Speaker 7: is you're gonna drop a counter bas Lamar Jackson's special
- 22:03Speaker 7: counter Bass that's right out of the Baltimore Ravens, like
- 22:07Speaker 7: you know, a playbook, Like that's not they were not
- 22:10Speaker 7: running counter bash in twenty eighteen with Tom Brady, Like
- 22:13Speaker 7: that's not, that's not that element of of the offense.
- 22:18Speaker 5: They have some counters and some bashes, but they didn't
- 22:21Speaker 5: run any counter bash.
- 22:22Speaker 7: Okay, counter bash quickly because you're all making fun of
- 22:25Speaker 7: me because I'm excited for once about the office.
- 22:28Speaker 3: It was a twitter was a cacophony of counter bash yesterday.
- 22:32Speaker 1: It was just it was like, Taylor is a counter bag.
- 22:34Speaker 7: Yeah, so counter bashes is a design quarterback read right,
- 22:38Speaker 7: So they have Drake May reading the defensive end. If
- 22:42Speaker 7: the defensive end crashes, then he's going to keep the
- 22:44Speaker 7: football and run it himself. And the defensive end stays outside,
- 22:48Speaker 7: then he's going to hand the ball off.
- 22:50Speaker 9: Right.
- 22:50Speaker 7: In this case, they actually inverted it not to get
- 22:52Speaker 7: too complicated.
- 22:53Speaker 5: So it's the other way.
- 22:54Speaker 1: So it's an option.
- 22:55Speaker 5: It's an option play.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:57Speaker 3: Oh, but you have the left guard and the left
- 22:58Speaker 3: tackle pulling right, and then you're well, that's the counter action.
- 23:01Speaker 7: That's the counter that's the counteraction. And now the coolest
- 23:05Speaker 7: part about the one the Patriots ran, which they're definitely
- 23:08Speaker 7: gonna come back to, is they actually snuck Hunter Henry
- 23:11Speaker 7: out on a route behind the pollers and so he
- 23:15Speaker 7: was wide open like for like a sixty yard touchdown.
- 23:19Speaker 7: If Drake May had kept the ball but he got
- 23:21Speaker 7: the give read, so he gave it to Travon Henderson.
- 23:23Speaker 7: But like that, that type of offense is just not
- 23:28Speaker 7: anything I've ever seen Josh McDaniels run before. So that's
- 23:31Speaker 7: all new to this iteration of the Josh McDaniels offense.
- 23:35Speaker 7: And it's really cool to see how he's adapted to
- 23:39Speaker 7: a different skill set at quarterback. And now you see
- 23:42Speaker 7: the efficiency is just off the charts with Drake may.
- 23:45Speaker 7: So the only cause for like a little concern that
- 23:48Speaker 7: I have is Paul's thing is like, once teams start
- 23:50Speaker 7: to figure out what they're doing, sure do they have
- 23:54Speaker 7: bcd F.
- 23:56Speaker 5: The stuff that on my show is they're putting up
- 23:59Speaker 5: Diggs's numbers because I think that that stuff that you
- 24:01Speaker 5: can rely on you can just beat you. That's you
- 24:04Speaker 5: can replicate that because he has the talent. And then
- 24:07Speaker 5: once you have that guy, it's like what Mike and
- 24:09Speaker 5: Evan was saying, you know, that makes Booty or Hollands
- 24:13Speaker 5: or these other guys more effective players. Yeah, you know,
- 24:16Speaker 5: and hopefully you continue to build on those. The tight
- 24:18Speaker 5: ends have both been really good for you. So it's
- 24:21Speaker 5: not a great cast of skill position guys. But if
- 24:25Speaker 5: the quarterback is playing at a high level. It's good enough. Sure,
- 24:29Speaker 5: I mean, Mahomes would kill for the level that they have.
- 24:33Speaker 5: You know what Mahomes dealt with the first month of
- 24:36Speaker 5: the season.
- 24:36Speaker 7: And the pass protection, Like, the pass protection has been
- 24:40Speaker 7: to keep.
- 24:40Speaker 5: It to twenty attempts and you don't have to rely
- 24:43Speaker 5: on Will Campbell holding the edge forty five times like
- 24:46Speaker 5: you did in week one. Like it's a huge difference.
- 24:49Speaker 5: It's a huge difference.
- 24:50Speaker 7: And they've been doing some stuff to help the tackles,
- 24:52Speaker 7: you know, with chips and different things like that. So
- 24:55Speaker 7: you just see what a well coordinated offense looks like.
- 24:58Speaker 7: And it's just it's just a breath fresh air.
- 25:01Speaker 1: So it's a lot to talk about coming out of
- 25:04Speaker 1: the game. We're very excited.
- 25:06Speaker 5: Do you want to do this now? Do you want
- 25:08Speaker 5: to do it now? Deuce?
- 25:08Speaker 1: Do you want to might PSA?
- 25:10Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 25:11Speaker 1: You have a PSA yeah, yes, So I'm going to
- 25:13Speaker 1: set it.
- 25:14Speaker 5: I'm going to.
- 25:17Speaker 1: Read off.
- 25:17Speaker 5: So there's been a lot of talk about Stefan Diggs
- 25:21Speaker 5: and some sort of change in his usage. Okay, Diggs
- 25:25Speaker 5: has been in the slot a lot this season. In
- 25:28Speaker 5: the first three weeks, he was in the slot a lot. Okay,
- 25:32Speaker 5: in this particular game, Mike's gonna have some numbers for
- 25:36Speaker 5: you that tell you something was different. I will now
- 25:40Speaker 5: let Mike have the floor.
- 25:41Speaker 3: Okay, thank you, Paul, I appreciate it. Hello everyone, patriots
- 25:43Speaker 3: of filtered listeners. I want to make sure you were
- 25:46Speaker 3: informed because there's a narrative out there right now that
- 25:48Speaker 3: moving Stefan Digs into the slot this week was the
- 25:51Speaker 3: magic sauce that suddenly allowed him to be successful. So
- 25:54Speaker 3: I went through and UH just charted some of the
- 25:56Speaker 3: numbers spread through the first four weeks. Uh the first
- 25:59Speaker 3: week and I'm gonna be wide and slot seventy percent wide,
- 26:03Speaker 3: twenty six percent slot. Second week forty percent wide, fifty
- 26:06Speaker 3: three percent slott little bump that week. Last week against
- 26:09Speaker 3: Pittsburgh six WI twenty eight percent wide, seventy one percent
- 26:14Speaker 3: in the slot. So last week he played the most
- 26:17Speaker 3: slot snaps he's played, and then it became an air
- 26:19Speaker 3: of last week like they need to move Digs more
- 26:21Speaker 3: into the slot to have more success. Of course, he
- 26:23Speaker 3: only had one catch for eleven yards. Last week against
- 26:27Speaker 3: the Panthers, was nine snaps wide, seven in the slot,
- 26:31Speaker 3: and his big plays all came out wide. So for
- 26:34Speaker 3: the season it's been fifty two percent out wide, forty
- 26:37Speaker 3: five percent in the slot. He's not a slot receiver.
- 26:40Speaker 3: He's playing both inside and outside, and that is why
- 26:43Speaker 3: Stefan Diggs is so effective. His rise in snaps now
- 26:46Speaker 3: this was he played sixty three percent of the snaps
- 26:48Speaker 3: this week, which is his.
- 26:50Speaker 1: Highest total yet. So, as we've said, it's.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Been the increase in usage that I think has helped
- 26:55Speaker 3: him as he come back from an ACL I just
- 26:58Speaker 3: like these narratives that come out about there are numbers
- 27:00Speaker 3: that back it up.
- 27:01Speaker 1: He hasn't been more on the slot. And if you
- 27:03Speaker 1: were just to say, oh, he should only play in
- 27:05Speaker 1: the slot, I.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Think you'd be saying you're gonna reduce his usage because
- 27:08Speaker 3: you only want him out there when there's.
- 27:09Speaker 1: Three receivers, so you're gonna limit him, move him around.
- 27:11Speaker 3: That's what makes him great. I don't get this digs
- 27:14Speaker 3: in the slot thing, and it made me do it
- 27:15Speaker 3: made me do Paul research.
- 27:16Speaker 1: I like write stuff. I'm like, I'm writing stuff down,
- 27:18Speaker 1: but I got to come in. I gotta come with numbers.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I hope they not dolls are watching and listening learning.
- 27:24Speaker 3: So one of those things like somebody and then they
- 27:26Speaker 3: just repeats it without and I'm like, it's an underlie,
- 27:31Speaker 3: it's a disservice.
- 27:31Speaker 7: Like you said, the big plays down the field, we're
- 27:35Speaker 7: all having him run routes on the outside for the
- 27:38Speaker 7: most part, like either the back shoulder faide, like we
- 27:40Speaker 7: can all see.
- 27:41Speaker 5: It just bugs me, like that's that one in particular,
- 27:44Speaker 5: Like you guys know, I sort of push back against
- 27:47Speaker 5: you know, the film review and it's not my thing, okay,
- 27:49Speaker 5: but you don't have to be Evan to see a
- 27:52Speaker 5: back shoulder fade on fourth down right down the sideline
- 27:56Speaker 5: and then say, you see you get him in the
- 27:58Speaker 5: slot and there's no way that play could have been
- 28:00Speaker 5: from the slot.
- 28:01Speaker 2: Right, and plus we know that we're reserving that slot
- 28:04Speaker 2: position for Chisholm when he's read.
- 28:07Speaker 1: It.
- 28:07Speaker 5: Just really it just really bugs me. I mean, Diggs
- 28:11Speaker 5: has always been a guy who's been versatile. He can
- 28:13Speaker 5: be on the outside, he can be you know, in
- 28:15Speaker 5: the slot. He can you know, if you want to say,
- 28:17Speaker 5: you know a Z or a different kind of slot,
- 28:19Speaker 5: you know, the f like Evan explained last week, the
- 28:22Speaker 5: differences in those two things. He's a good player and
- 28:25Speaker 5: he has versatility to his game. Matt Collins at his
- 28:28Speaker 5: size can do some of those things too. He's been
- 28:32Speaker 5: an ex receiver a lot, but he's also has the
- 28:34Speaker 5: ability to sort of line up as a tight end
- 28:36Speaker 5: kind of and the inside the block and his.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Professional receivers they can run broccoli, they can run carrot,
- 28:43Speaker 2: they can they can.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Do it all.
- 28:49Speaker 3: But it kind of goes back to Julian Edelman and
- 28:51Speaker 3: that you know, oh, he's a slot like Wes Welker
- 28:53Speaker 3: and Edelman, I think takes exception.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Have you've talked to him about it. You know, he's that.
- 28:57Speaker 3: Zero receiver who they can move around and play off
- 29:00Speaker 3: the line of scrimmage and he can motion inside and
- 29:02Speaker 3: you know that's where Stefan Diggs is going to be
- 29:04Speaker 3: most useful. So you know, trying to just limit him
- 29:07Speaker 3: into like, oh, the slot is where it's all going
- 29:09Speaker 3: to happen, I think that takes away from what Digs
- 29:11Speaker 3: can go.
- 29:11Speaker 5: And I'm not even getting into that argument whether or
- 29:14Speaker 5: not you think he can be effective there or that.
- 29:17Speaker 5: I'm talking about the people who came out of the
- 29:18Speaker 5: game Sunday and somehow thought that he made all those
- 29:21Speaker 5: plays from the slot, right, Like you just didn't watch.
- 29:24Speaker 7: I think the third and fifteen route was from the slot,
- 29:26Speaker 7: but the other two were definitely on the outside. And
- 29:29Speaker 7: like I said earlier, it's about how far down the
- 29:32Speaker 7: field they started targeting him in this game. That was
- 29:34Speaker 7: the difference to me, was the difference the air yards
- 29:37Speaker 7: doubled from the first three weeks.
- 29:39Speaker 2: They just see anything over five catches. Oh, how to
- 29:41Speaker 2: come from the slot, because that's where the volume come.
- 29:43Speaker 5: But that's what Like, I know that the Pittsburgh game
- 29:46Speaker 5: he had like one would you say one catch in
- 29:47Speaker 5: that game? What did you have the first game? You
- 29:50Speaker 5: have five catches for like thirty yards. Like the difference
- 29:53Speaker 5: is it's the same amount of catches, but it's but
- 29:55Speaker 5: three times the amount of yards.
- 29:57Speaker 3: Right, Yeah, I mean he had eighty nine yards from
- 29:59Speaker 3: out wide and twelve yards from the slot according to
- 30:01Speaker 3: Next Gen staffs.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I looked up.
- 30:03Speaker 7: Like Mike Jackson is not a good player. The corner
- 30:05Speaker 7: that was covering him. But if Diggs's like pre acl
- 30:11Speaker 7: juices back and the vertical ability is back, Like it
- 30:15Speaker 7: was cool to watch and run routes like that. Again,
- 30:17Speaker 7: like I we didn't even really see that in so
- 30:19Speaker 7: much in training camp because I don't think that his
- 30:21Speaker 7: knee was was there yet, and so to see him
- 30:24Speaker 7: like actually separate from man coverage deeper down the field
- 30:28Speaker 7: and okay, like we can he still got that in
- 30:32Speaker 7: the tank. That's a really positive development. Like that's probably
- 30:36Speaker 7: one of the biggest things that came out of this game.
- 30:37Speaker 1: I mean, should we just.
- 30:38Speaker 3: Be saying too, like he's coming off an ACL and
- 30:40Speaker 3: the fact that he's even on the field this month
- 30:42Speaker 3: is kind of a positive to me when I assume
- 30:44Speaker 3: that maybe he was going to be limited. I mean,
- 30:47Speaker 3: Wes Welker twenty ten came back still a down year
- 30:51Speaker 3: for him production wise, so you know, just to simplify
- 30:54Speaker 3: it and say moving to the slot, it's like, no,
- 30:55Speaker 3: this guy's going to start to get healthier. I know
- 30:57Speaker 3: the comments we probably could talk about where he said
- 30:59Speaker 3: he was a five of ten comfortability in Josh's offense.
- 31:02Speaker 1: I don't know how exactly to take that. Rabel was
- 31:04Speaker 1: asked about.
- 31:05Speaker 5: It yesterday but didn't seem to care for that.
- 31:07Speaker 1: I think we're we're growing out. We have to get
- 31:09Speaker 1: it more.
- 31:09Speaker 3: I just wonder if it sounded more to me like
- 31:12Speaker 3: dig saying like I'm at a five of ten of
- 31:14Speaker 3: how effective I think I can be in this offense,
- 31:16Speaker 3: not like I only understand half the offense right now, you.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Know, like like he's he's just scratching the surface.
- 31:23Speaker 3: And I do think that there's some validity to that
- 31:25Speaker 3: where you're coming off in a cl you're in a
- 31:27Speaker 3: new offense.
- 31:28Speaker 1: You know, he had some experience with the verbiage with Stable,
- 31:31Speaker 1: but still I.
- 31:32Speaker 3: Just I think you're you're seeing an upward swing that's
- 31:34Speaker 3: a lot about a lot more than just moving.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Him into some all right good stuff.
- 31:38Speaker 2: Eight five five past five hundred is the Hotline podcast
- 31:42Speaker 2: at Patriots dot Com is the email address. We saw
- 31:47Speaker 2: our first look at rivalries uniforms last night with the
- 31:51Speaker 2: Miami Dolphins, and that was a tough game.
- 31:53Speaker 5: For them, and the Cardinals were those.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Oh that's right, Yeah, they lost Hill. A lot of
- 32:01Speaker 2: a lot of tough injuries this a week. I know
- 32:02Speaker 2: Paul thinks I root for injuries, but I'm driving home
- 32:05Speaker 2: Sunday night and I listened to the serious It's kind
- 32:08Speaker 2: of like an audio red zone that they do. I
- 32:10Speaker 2: do the same thing, and you know it's like I
- 32:13Speaker 2: was just like, oh, that's tough neighbors out, Yeah.
- 32:16Speaker 1: Hearing all that stuff. It's not it's bad for the
- 32:20Speaker 1: Chargers offensive line.
- 32:21Speaker 7: Like how like when they get to the Giants story
- 32:23Speaker 7: they can't watch Belie Neighbors. Yeah, like I'm going to
- 32:26Speaker 7: be bored out of my mind.
- 32:27Speaker 5: But that's also part of you know, like, man, you
- 32:31Speaker 5: talk about two bad teams last night, you know, the
- 32:33Speaker 5: way the Jets and the Dolphins. So you kind of
- 32:35Speaker 5: looked at that and you're like, well there's still division teams,
- 32:37Speaker 5: like you know, maybe you split them, but now you've
- 32:39Speaker 5: got to get greedy and you look at those two
- 32:41Speaker 5: teams and how bad they looked last night.
- 32:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Well the divisions are as if we want it.
- 32:46Speaker 5: I'm talking about the Dolphins, in the in the Jets.
- 32:49Speaker 1: Well there's there's there's like I feel like there's two
- 32:50Speaker 1: kinds of games left.
- 32:51Speaker 3: Maybe this is oversimplifying it, but there's games where you
- 32:54Speaker 3: really feel like they should win or you know, if
- 32:56Speaker 3: you don't beat yourself, you could win or should win.
- 32:59Speaker 3: And then there's the barometer how how good can you be?
- 33:02Speaker 3: Like this weekend, what can you do? Go in against Buffalo?
- 33:06Speaker 3: Nobody's gonna be all that upset if you drop one
- 33:09Speaker 3: up in Buffalo to the Bills. They're a great team,
- 33:11Speaker 3: but there's no pressure where thereas like this week against Carolina,
- 33:15Speaker 3: I feel pressure going in, Like, man, if they dropped
- 33:17Speaker 3: this one, like after that first drive when they went
- 33:20Speaker 3: right down the field on him, It's like, is this
- 33:22Speaker 3: this is it? This is what We're gonna be in
- 33:24Speaker 3: dogfights with these crappy teams. But you know, I look
- 33:27Speaker 3: forward to those measuring stick games. I think Baltimore will
- 33:29Speaker 3: be one down the road a little bit Campa Bay.
- 33:32Speaker 3: But there's not a lot. There's quite a few teams
- 33:34Speaker 3: that have only won zero or one game.
- 33:36Speaker 5: And one of the ones that everybody thought heading in
- 33:38Speaker 5: is no longer that Cincinnati.
- 33:40Speaker 1: Yep.
- 33:40Speaker 5: You know, you see what's happened to them without Borrow
- 33:43Speaker 5: and they weren't competitive.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Last be the best of the bad this year.
- 33:47Speaker 2: All right, here, let's hear what you have to say.
- 33:50Speaker 2: We'll start with Sean and Vancouver. What's up, Sean?
- 33:56Speaker 10: Hey, everyone, such a great week. It's so different in
- 34:00Speaker 10: the NFL because the league really requires that you work
- 34:05Speaker 10: together as a team, and we know the quarterback is
- 34:07Speaker 10: the most important position, but you can't really become a
- 34:12Speaker 10: franchise quarterback on your own It takes a lot of development,
- 34:17Speaker 10: It takes a lot of teamwork together and being there together.
- 34:21Speaker 10: I mean, if you look at the league, there's what
- 34:23Speaker 10: maybe five or six franchise quarterbacks right now that are established,
- 34:27Speaker 10: but less than twenty percent and over the history. I mean,
- 34:30Speaker 10: look at a guy like Jim Plunkett, took him what
- 34:33Speaker 10: they took the eighth year leap to become a franchise
- 34:36Speaker 10: quarterback team super Bowl, Yeah, with a new team with
- 34:40Speaker 10: the with the Raiders is thirteen. And you look at
- 34:43Speaker 10: players like Sam Darnold's and Baker Mayfield, they had to
- 34:47Speaker 10: move on for different teams and maybe they'll become franchise
- 34:50Speaker 10: quarterbacks now we still don't know, but they're doing well.
- 34:54Speaker 10: Look at twenty twenty one and there was five quarterbacks
- 34:57Speaker 10: taken in the first round. People are excited about that.
- 34:59Speaker 10: Maybe none of them become franchise quarterbacks. So that's why
- 35:02Speaker 10: it's so exciting about Drake may We don't know if
- 35:05Speaker 10: he will, but it looks like it could work. It
- 35:08Speaker 10: looks like we finally have the things that are coming together.
- 35:10Speaker 10: Like last year when he would make a big play
- 35:14Speaker 10: for a first down and then it was taken back
- 35:16Speaker 10: from a penalty like holding penalty the third and fifteen net.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Forget it.
- 35:20Speaker 10: They can't, they can't convert it. This year he has
- 35:23Speaker 10: that that twenty two yard reception that was a beautiful
- 35:26Speaker 10: reception by Diggs and you know we have we have
- 35:29Speaker 10: that now, so it's like, this is possible. But the
- 35:32Speaker 10: question I have is on that penalty that took it
- 35:36Speaker 10: back Henderson, like he was known in college as being
- 35:39Speaker 10: great at past protection. But I'm wondering if the speed
- 35:43Speaker 10: of the NFL is what his issue is, because it
- 35:45Speaker 10: looked like on that play the defender got to him
- 35:48Speaker 10: before he was ready it and they felt that.
- 35:50Speaker 2: It definitely it's the speed of the game. That's why
- 35:54Speaker 2: he's getting those holding calls. That's what happens when you
- 35:57Speaker 2: know you're you over extend because you beat you hold.
- 36:02Speaker 5: And Mike talked a little bit about that yesterday. He
- 36:05Speaker 5: was asked in the press conference and you know the
- 36:08Speaker 5: way he explained it, and I don't have the quote
- 36:11Speaker 5: in front of you, but talking about recognizing when he
- 36:15Speaker 5: needs to eliminate some of the space, like he's kind
- 36:18Speaker 5: of sitting back and waiting and then adjusting as opposed
- 36:21Speaker 5: to cutting down on that area between the one that
- 36:26Speaker 5: oncoming rushier and you know, sort of taking the fight
- 36:29Speaker 5: to him. So I think it's it's one of those deals.
- 36:33Speaker 5: Like I think maybe we underestimated just how difficult that
- 36:37Speaker 5: skill is, because he did come out by all accounts
- 36:39Speaker 5: with your right you know, a great reputation is a
- 36:43Speaker 5: pass protector, but it's it's a different animal, and I.
- 36:45Speaker 1: Do think he did it in a little bit.
- 36:47Speaker 5: And I do think the mental part of it is
- 36:51Speaker 5: it can't be under sold, like you're not exactly sure
- 36:56Speaker 5: which guy you're getting all the time. You're seeing much
- 36:59Speaker 5: more sophisticated did rush schemes than you did in college.
- 37:02Speaker 5: So I think a lot of that, yeah, you know,
- 37:04Speaker 5: is growing pains.
- 37:05Speaker 7: That to me is the biggest thing.
- 37:07Speaker 5: You know.
- 37:07Speaker 7: They run a dual read system where the running back
- 37:10Speaker 7: is going to read off of two different guys and
- 37:12Speaker 7: take the nearest threat to the quarterback. So on the hold,
- 37:15Speaker 7: he's got an interior blitzer and he's got a guy
- 37:17Speaker 7: off the edge. When the interior blitzer drops into coverage,
- 37:20Speaker 7: he's got to get outside and block the guy that's
- 37:22Speaker 7: coming off the edge. And I think that that's why
- 37:26Speaker 7: he kind of was sort of sitting back almost like
- 37:28Speaker 7: in a pass set like he was a left tackle
- 37:30Speaker 7: to try to catch the guy was because he didn't
- 37:33Speaker 7: start with his eyes outside. He started with his eyes inside.
- 37:36Speaker 7: So it's just being able to adjust a little bit quicker,
- 37:40Speaker 7: see it a little bit faster because it goes so
- 37:42Speaker 7: quick in the NFL compared to college where the college game,
- 37:45Speaker 7: like to Paul's point, you're probably not seeing all these
- 37:48Speaker 7: different scheme pressures and guys dropping and guys blitzing from
- 37:51Speaker 7: different angles and things like that. So it's a it's
- 37:54Speaker 7: a much harder thing to do. But the other thing
- 37:56Speaker 7: that that Sean brought up that I was thinking about,
- 37:58Speaker 7: because now you know I'm on this high, you have Mahomes,
- 38:02Speaker 7: Alan Burrow, Jackson, There's that's a tier of its own,
- 38:06Speaker 7: that is the s tier of quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 38:08Speaker 7: You're not no one's arguing that how many quarterbacks do
- 38:12Speaker 7: you name that if you were starting a team today
- 38:15Speaker 7: that you would take over Drake May after that top
- 38:17Speaker 7: tier quarterbacks, because I don't think it's really that many.
- 38:20Speaker 5: Herbert maybe Herbert I agree, he would be one, But
- 38:24Speaker 5: starting a team today that I wouldn't have too many.
- 38:27Speaker 5: I wouldn't especially after the start he's had, because you know,
- 38:31Speaker 5: the guys that I would say that are probably still
- 38:33Speaker 5: better than him now or you know, like my boy Stafford.
- 38:37Speaker 5: But I certainly wouldn't take him today over Drake May
- 38:39Speaker 5: if I had my choice of those two, right, you know,
- 38:43Speaker 5: Jaden Daniels, you know you six one a half dozen.
- 38:47Speaker 5: I said last year when Daniels was lighting it up
- 38:50Speaker 5: that I would still take May, and I stand by that.
- 38:52Speaker 5: I think he's more of a conventional quarterback. I don't know,
- 38:57Speaker 5: I don't know how many you would get to.
- 38:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I just want to make one point off Evans.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Thing about Trevion is just you know, first of all,
- 39:04Speaker 3: which I think I said before, is that sometimes past
- 39:06Speaker 3: protection alone will keep a young running back off the
- 39:08Speaker 3: field for an entire first year. And second of all,
- 39:11Speaker 3: whenever asked about Ramandre Brabil always brings up he's our
- 39:15Speaker 3: most trusted past protector. So it's just such an important part.
- 39:19Speaker 3: And that's and that's a big reason why you can't
- 39:21Speaker 3: just bench him. And you know you need that skill
- 39:23Speaker 3: even if you're not putting the ball in his hands.
- 39:25Speaker 1: Dan's in California. What's up, Dan? What's up guy? Dan?
- 39:32Speaker 9: So I know Evan already like nerded out or over
- 39:35Speaker 9: the offense so.
- 39:37Speaker 1: He can do more's.
- 39:38Speaker 11: I'm sure he happy, But do you feel like this
- 39:43Speaker 11: Josh McDaniel's offense is different from the past just because
- 39:46Speaker 11: like you're seeing so much more motion jet sweep, you know, to.
- 39:50Speaker 9: Gibb and Henderson. I also was wanted to ask what
- 39:54Speaker 9: do you think the impact of Thomas Brown, the passing coordinator,
- 39:57Speaker 9: has had on this offense? And my second question is
- 40:00Speaker 9: is the you know the world doesn't really expect us
- 40:03Speaker 9: to go into Buffalo on Sunday, And I like what
- 40:06Speaker 9: what you said about you know, we're not really nobody's
- 40:09Speaker 9: expecting us to win. But if we do manage to
- 40:12Speaker 9: pull off an upset and Drake may delivers another strong performance,
- 40:16Speaker 9: would it be fair to put him in the MVP conversation?
- 40:20Speaker 9: And I don't think squ.
- 40:21Speaker 3: Yeah, thanks, I mean based on I mean, well, how
- 40:24Speaker 3: does it look? First of all, Drake goes in there
- 40:26Speaker 3: and throws four touchdowns and no interceptions.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Again, like you know that week five, you got to
- 40:30Speaker 2: be at the you know, vying for the division. This
- 40:36Speaker 2: goes for any team. You have to be vying for
- 40:39Speaker 2: your division, for any of your players, to be considered
- 40:42Speaker 2: for MVP, the team has to have success for the
- 40:45Speaker 2: player to have value. In my opinion, especially that Yeah.
- 40:50Speaker 5: I would largely agree with you. It's just it's it
- 40:53Speaker 5: would be the fifth week of the season, right, it's
- 40:55Speaker 5: way too ready to talk about m vps. Drake May
- 40:57Speaker 5: has played an exceptionally high level through the first month.
- 41:00Speaker 5: You know, I'm happy with.
- 41:01Speaker 3: That, but I'd say watching some of Buffalo as we
- 41:04Speaker 3: get ready for Buffalo, like watch Josh Allen, Like there
- 41:07Speaker 3: is a difference right there still to me of the
- 41:09Speaker 3: kind of player he is, and Drake's played great, But
- 41:11Speaker 3: when you talk about MVP and you see all the
- 41:13Speaker 3: different things that Josh Allen does, getting his whole team involved,
- 41:17Speaker 3: carrying the ball when he has to, you know, I
- 41:19Speaker 3: think Drake could get there. But even initially in this
- 41:21Speaker 3: part of the season, I still see Josh Allen is
- 41:23Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 41:24Speaker 5: So does you know, we'll play it out. So let's
- 41:27Speaker 5: say the game unfolds and he outduels Josh Allen Sunday night.
- 41:31Speaker 5: So now it's a Fred's point. Go ten weeks ahead,
- 41:35Speaker 5: and now you know the Bills and the Patriots are
- 41:38Speaker 5: tied to top the AFC East at I don't know,
- 41:44Speaker 5: eleven and four. Yeah, now it's a conversation. But at
- 41:50Speaker 5: you know, week five, at three and two. No, he's
- 41:54Speaker 5: not an MVP candidate, But like Jayden Daniels, worked himself
- 41:57Speaker 5: into MVP consideration as a rookie lab year because the
- 42:01Speaker 5: team went twelve and five, right, and then you know,
- 42:05Speaker 5: he ended up being largely responsible for so many of
- 42:07Speaker 5: those wins. So he rightly inserted himself alongside Lamar Jackson
- 42:13Speaker 5: and Josh Allen. He didn't win it, he was behind
- 42:16Speaker 5: those two. Yeah, but if we're sitting here in December
- 42:21Speaker 5: and we're talking about the Patriots, there.
- 42:23Speaker 1: Was tangible evidence of his value.
- 42:25Speaker 5: Yeah, we're talking about the Patriots vying for you know,
- 42:28Speaker 5: a division title and being in a playoff team. Yes,
- 42:31Speaker 5: Drake May is probably going to get consideration.
- 42:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:34Speaker 2: The other thing the caller mentioned was Dan in California,
- 42:40Speaker 2: Thomas Brown, passing coordinator, passing game coordinator. Like, I don't
- 42:45Speaker 2: know all the dynamics of how all this comes together,
- 42:48Speaker 2: but Vrabel was very quick to let everyone know during
- 42:52Speaker 2: his press conference on Monday about you know, how they
- 42:56Speaker 2: do it on first down, how they get together for
- 42:59Speaker 2: third down? They get together for Red Zone. You know,
- 43:03Speaker 2: I'm sure Thomas Brown is part of that.
- 43:04Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, So I think the biggest just if you
- 43:08Speaker 7: just look at it schematically, and this is speculation, like
- 43:11Speaker 7: I don't I don't know, but all the bootlegs and
- 43:14Speaker 7: stuff like that come right out of the Shanahan McVeigh playbook,
- 43:19Speaker 7: and Thomas Brown cut his teeth with Sean McVay in
- 43:22Speaker 7: the Rams in Los Angeles, So one would think that
- 43:27Speaker 7: they knew probably all along that they wanted to put
- 43:29Speaker 7: those things in. But having somebody from the inside that
- 43:34Speaker 7: knows it on the level like Thomas Brown, I'm sure
- 43:38Speaker 7: is influential in terms of how they're scheming it and
- 43:40Speaker 7: how they're dressing it up and that sort of thing.
- 43:43Speaker 7: So I don't know who had the grand idea of
- 43:47Speaker 7: putting in bootlegs. I'm sure they looked at Drake May
- 43:50Speaker 7: and that was probably a pretty.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Easy because pretty easy, right.
- 43:53Speaker 5: So then the next.
- 43:54Speaker 7: Step is is like, how are we going to schematically
- 43:58Speaker 7: design our keepers? And that's where I think Thomas Brown
- 44:02Speaker 7: might be able to help out a lot because of
- 44:05Speaker 7: his experience in that offense.
- 44:07Speaker 3: You know that, It's another thing I feel good about
- 44:08Speaker 3: for you Edis. I remember we were talking about hiring
- 44:10Speaker 3: coaches and stuff, and you were like, no, you got
- 44:12Speaker 3: to hire an offensive coach because you get a coordinator
- 44:14Speaker 3: who's the hot shot and he does well and he's
- 44:15Speaker 3: gonna leave. And I'm like, Josh is here for a
- 44:17Speaker 3: little while, Like, you know, there's a lot to cook
- 44:19Speaker 3: with with him, and I'm not really worried about him
- 44:21Speaker 3: jumping ships. So seen some people talk about this could
- 44:25Speaker 3: be the start of a long, beautiful relationship with these
- 44:27Speaker 3: two guys.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Jayson Tampa. What's up, Jay?
- 44:31Speaker 5: That's nice? Hey, what's up guy, Petrol Optimist.
- 44:37Speaker 6: So a lot of people have been calling into the
- 44:39Speaker 6: show the last couple of weeks asking about what there
- 44:42Speaker 6: is to do in Tampa for the Patriots first Bucks game. Yeah.
- 44:47Speaker 1: I am the.
- 44:47Speaker 6: President of the Tampa and New England Patriots fan clubs.
- 44:49Speaker 6: I feel like I have some experience.
- 44:51Speaker 1: I think I met you right, Jays.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Thank you for your service, Yeah president.
- 44:56Speaker 6: Thank you?
- 44:58Speaker 12: Yes?
- 44:58Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 44:59Speaker 13: Thanks.
- 45:01Speaker 6: So I just want to let everybody out there in
- 45:03Speaker 6: the PU world know we actually just got done working
- 45:07Speaker 6: with you guys with your fan engagement team. So shout
- 45:09Speaker 6: out to Jeff, Jen and Tommy. We are going to
- 45:12Speaker 6: be hosting the Patriots Fan road Rally down here in Tampa.
- 45:18Speaker 6: So that will be Saturday, November eighth, from seven to
- 45:21Speaker 6: nine pm at a location called Sunset Rodeo, which is
- 45:26Speaker 6: in the Soho District of Tampa. So we'll have Patriots
- 45:30Speaker 6: alumni there, we'll have the cheerleaders there, we'll have the
- 45:32Speaker 6: mascot there. Starge will be there. So yeah, so it's
- 45:36Speaker 6: gonna be a whole big event.
- 45:38Speaker 5: Like you should be there.
- 45:40Speaker 14: Yeah, So I'll just.
- 45:44Speaker 1: Maybe after burns, I'll come by.
- 45:46Speaker 7: I can't afford it.
- 45:48Speaker 6: You know, you weren't invited last year in the Nashville.
- 45:51Speaker 6: I want to make sure. Yeah, I want to make
- 45:53Speaker 6: sure everybody is out there listening that you are invited.
- 45:57Speaker 6: It's a free event. And then Sunday night after the game,
- 46:01Speaker 6: we actually have a band coming down, Dalton and the
- 46:03Speaker 6: Sheriffs from Boston. Same venue as Sunset Rodeo. We're doing
- 46:06Speaker 6: a postgame concert there as well. So wow, if anybody
- 46:11Speaker 6: has yeah, if anybody has any questions about what they
- 46:13Speaker 6: do in Tampa, they can find us Tampa Patriots Faint Club.
- 46:16Speaker 6: Just google us. All their socials will come out. They
- 46:19Speaker 6: can message us and We're glad to get recommendations.
- 46:22Speaker 1: That's awesome, Jay.
- 46:23Speaker 2: Thanks Jay, thanks for the wiki for your associated Thanks Jay, Yeah,
- 46:26Speaker 2: I can't wait.
- 46:27Speaker 1: It's always great to hear when fans are doing that
- 46:29Speaker 1: on the road.
- 46:30Speaker 3: I missed that stuff. I missed going to those things.
- 46:32Speaker 3: I always remember the why I went to in Seattle
- 46:34Speaker 3: that you guys were.
- 46:34Speaker 1: I saw you, there's Fred, but it's I don't know.
- 46:37Speaker 3: I well, they didn't they not have enough bartenders.
- 46:41Speaker 2: They left so much money on the table that night
- 46:45Speaker 2: because they couldn't get to people like people were just.
- 46:47Speaker 5: Like brow, please take my money.
- 46:49Speaker 2: I didn't want to drink, and they didn't have enough
- 46:51Speaker 2: bartenders and service people.
- 46:54Speaker 1: I just I equated to like going to church.
- 46:55Speaker 3: It's like, you know, at a random place and you
- 46:57Speaker 3: just walk in and it's like my people here, they are,
- 46:59Speaker 3: you know, and you'll instantly have this connection with everybody.
- 47:02Speaker 3: It's one of the things I love most about being
- 47:04Speaker 3: a Patriots blogger. We all have our different angles of
- 47:06Speaker 3: how we approach things, and that's where I came from,
- 47:08Speaker 3: and I love.
- 47:12Speaker 4: It.
- 47:13Speaker 7: A couple of times I had to work most of
- 47:14Speaker 7: the time so I couldn't but when they play on
- 47:17Speaker 7: Thursday nights. I didn't have to work Thursday nights, so
- 47:21Speaker 7: I did go to Sunny's Best, Like.
- 47:23Speaker 1: I moved out there.
- 47:24Speaker 3: You're a little homesick, and then you just walk in
- 47:26Speaker 3: and there's just all Patriot fans and it's a lot
- 47:29Speaker 3: of fun. Don't sit there. This guy, he sits there.
- 47:31Speaker 3: I think I said before. There was a guy who
- 47:32Speaker 3: always would have like the late first down call, so
- 47:34Speaker 3: it was like another Patriots first down, and the whole
- 47:36Speaker 3: Patriots bar would go first down.
- 47:38Speaker 1: And then there was one guy. His thing was.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Furst down like he'd do it a little later than
- 47:42Speaker 3: everyone else, So don't step on it. But you know,
- 47:44Speaker 3: it's like halftime free raffles, and I I just love.
- 47:49Speaker 7: Patriots Texans. The Jacoby Brissette Thursday night game.
- 47:54Speaker 5: I watched that one, and.
- 47:56Speaker 2: Those things don't happen without people like Jay Yeah, who
- 48:00Speaker 2: you know, in his free time, Barry and Yeah, volunteers
- 48:04Speaker 2: to organize all that stuff, make phone calls, send out emails.
- 48:08Speaker 2: It's good stuff. And there's people all over the world
- 48:11Speaker 2: Patriots fans that do that, and it's not easy to
- 48:14Speaker 2: do speed it's easy to do when.
- 48:15Speaker 1: They're in the Super Bowl.
- 48:16Speaker 3: The sc championship every year, like the people that are
- 48:18Speaker 3: still dedicated.
- 48:19Speaker 1: Through the downtimes. You know, a lot of shout outs
- 48:22Speaker 1: to those people.
- 48:22Speaker 2: And remember, if you want to find out if there's
- 48:25Speaker 2: a club near you, you can go to Patriots dot
- 48:27Speaker 2: com into the fan Zone section the fan club Registry.
- 48:31Speaker 2: You just type in a zip code or a city
- 48:34Speaker 2: and any clubs in the vicinity will pop up and
- 48:37Speaker 2: you'll have the contact information that you can get in
- 48:40Speaker 2: touch with. Or if you want to start your own
- 48:42Speaker 2: fan club, you can also register a fan club right
- 48:45Speaker 2: there on Patriots dot com. So good stuff. One more
- 48:49Speaker 2: call then we'll take a break. I'm hungry Brian's and Lowell.
- 48:53Speaker 2: What's up, Brian?
- 48:55Speaker 8: Hey, what's up?
- 48:56Speaker 1: Hey?

- 49:00Speaker 1: We love having you call.
- 49:01Speaker 8: Okay, it's pretty good at buccan zalas his next debut,
- 49:07Speaker 8: his nice return to Sunday.
- 49:10Speaker 1: Yes, it was good to see him. Yep.
- 49:13Speaker 15: I was so high about so.
- 49:14Speaker 8: I was so ecstatic when I watched the game, like, oh,
- 49:17Speaker 8: it's like finally that speech we needed three weeks ago.
- 49:21Speaker 15: We would be undefeated.
- 49:22Speaker 8: If he was playing three weeks ago, you know what
- 49:24Speaker 8: I mean, Pittsburgh.
- 49:25Speaker 1: But he played.
- 49:27Speaker 8: He played the whole game, So that's good sign. Play
- 49:29Speaker 8: a whole game. Well, no issue, So it's good to go.
- 49:33Speaker 8: Now now we're on the buffalo. We are on the bills,
- 49:36Speaker 8: so I think we get all the momentum, so which
- 49:39Speaker 8: is a good thing.
- 49:40Speaker 15: So go to buffalo. That's gonna be I one.
- 49:43Speaker 5: We all know that, sure do.
- 49:45Speaker 2: All right, Well, thanks Brian, appreciate the call. All right,

- 52:07Speaker 14: Car, How are you good?
- 52:13Speaker 7: I was just wondering what you thought of Christian Gonzalez.
- 52:17Speaker 2: And his re entry.
- 52:19Speaker 14: I thought it was good. I thought it was okay
- 52:21Speaker 14: for him to you know, good for good to be
- 52:22Speaker 14: out there. And I think it can always be better,
- 52:25Speaker 14: and I think he knows that. And but for for
- 52:30Speaker 14: just you know, the first game back some good stuff,
- 52:35Speaker 14: and he'll continue to work and he'll continue to you know,
- 52:38Speaker 14: have a game plan each and every week. And excited
- 52:42Speaker 14: that he was able to put a full work in
- 52:44Speaker 14: there and have confidence and playing and conditioning and all
- 52:47Speaker 14: those things that are positive.
- 52:50Speaker 12: Working with Josh Daniels and farm say so with the
- 52:53Speaker 12: job he did last week and yesterday.
- 52:56Speaker 14: Well it's not only John. I mean I I you know,
- 52:58Speaker 14: I enjoy working with Josh Ien were joy working with
- 53:00Speaker 14: the entire offensive staff. It's it's good coaches on that side.
- 53:05Speaker 14: There's a lot of collaboration, and I like kind of
- 53:08Speaker 14: where we are from an efficiency standpoint, just trying to
- 53:12Speaker 14: you know, to work ahead and be detailed and you know,
- 53:17Speaker 14: making sure that you know, everybody is doing their roles
- 53:22Speaker 14: and assignments. And yeah, we worked a run game and
- 53:27Speaker 14: then kind of Josh and Thomas and Todd and Ashton
- 53:31Speaker 14: will work some of the passing game, and you know
- 53:33Speaker 14: when it goes to third down, and then we all
- 53:35Speaker 14: get together on red zone. And those things certainly paid
- 53:39Speaker 14: off last week. So you being able to marry some plays,
- 53:44Speaker 14: and when you can convert and you can strength some
- 53:47Speaker 14: drives together or some plays together, then things look alike.
- 53:51Speaker 14: And then that all compliments. We've talked about that before.
- 53:54Speaker 14: And when you just live in a three and out
- 53:56Speaker 14: world and you're not extending drives, it's hard to marry
- 54:00Speaker 14: those plays. Touchdown throw punter Henriett after, how much does
- 54:05Speaker 14: Drake's ability to throw on the move and throw from
- 54:07Speaker 14: some different opagels for you in that stad well to
- 54:10Speaker 14: be able to extend plays, move the pocket and get
- 54:13Speaker 14: you know, move the launch point. He is critical and
- 54:18Speaker 14: you know those plays as have helped us, and he's
- 54:20Speaker 14: he's done a good job with him.
- 54:22Speaker 2: Like giving Remandre to carry on the first play in
- 54:25Speaker 2: the game, and I think he had the most snaps
- 54:26Speaker 2: among the run master.
- 54:27Speaker 5: Was that intentional about you guys, No.
- 54:30Speaker 14: Not intentional other than that he's, you know, our first
- 54:36Speaker 14: second down back. He's the best protector and you know,
- 54:40Speaker 14: it was good to see him being able to to
- 54:42Speaker 14: break one there. And if we finish one more guy
- 54:45Speaker 14: probably scores. So you know, again we're going to keep
- 54:49Speaker 14: practicing ball security with every single player. And there's a
- 54:52Speaker 14: lot of really good examples of guys protecting the guy
- 54:55Speaker 14: with the ball, which I believe and I know is
- 54:58Speaker 14: critical to our six. And you know, I think it
- 55:03Speaker 14: was just good for us to play good, clean game overall.
- 55:05Speaker 12: After the game, you've given acknowledgement to pop about this
- 55:08Speaker 12: for for his block specifically on the other Henry touchdown stuff,
- 55:11Speaker 12: as plucks with them to the last couple weeks up
- 55:14Speaker 12: blocking wandering if you could speak to the importance of
- 55:16Speaker 12: blocking that that position and hell can maybe be an differentiator.
- 55:19Speaker 14: Well, when you don't block safeties in the National Football League,
- 55:22Speaker 14: they make the tackle and not only do they make
- 55:24Speaker 14: the tackle, they usually inflict some sign of you know,
- 55:30Speaker 14: blow delivery. You know they're not going in there uh lightly.
- 55:34Speaker 14: And so again that's the idea that it's not that
- 55:38Speaker 14: we need receivers that that are out there with neck
- 55:40Speaker 14: rolls on, and you know, they have to be multifaceted
- 55:45Speaker 14: and be able to execute the things that we need
- 55:48Speaker 14: them to do in the past game. But also when
- 55:50Speaker 14: when there's opportunities to go find people to block, they
- 55:53Speaker 14: have to do that as well. And I think when
- 55:57Speaker 14: the more that we can show them that it leads
- 55:59Speaker 14: to extra yards and it leads the X plays and
- 56:01Speaker 14: it leads the touchdowns, that the more that they're believing
- 56:05Speaker 14: in it and buying into it. And I think that
- 56:08Speaker 14: there's great examples, especially yesterday on the tape of us
- 56:11Speaker 14: doing that.
- 56:12Speaker 17: Williams said, this really felt like that the Panthers were
- 56:14Speaker 17: trying to keep the defensive line out of the game.
- 56:17Speaker 14: Jersey saw the same thing. I mean, the ball came
- 56:20Speaker 14: out quick, and you know that, you know, I thought that,
- 56:25Speaker 14: you know, our ability to you know, affect the quarterback
- 56:28Speaker 14: from a standpoint of inaccuracy and efficiency was good, and
- 56:33Speaker 14: you know, we could start talking about not giving the
- 56:38Speaker 14: rush lanes, which I thought was a key, especially on
- 56:40Speaker 14: third down his ability previously to extend those things. So
- 56:44Speaker 14: you know, I think there's there's ways the factor and
- 56:46Speaker 14: guys you know did at times factor, but you know
- 56:49Speaker 14: we didn't. We didn't allow you know, Bryce the easy
- 56:53Speaker 14: yards out of the pocket that we had seen previously.
- 56:58Speaker 14: So I think that was a positive.
- 57:01Speaker 1: What do you see from Christian Barmore?
- 57:03Speaker 13: And how is this plan that you've had for him
- 57:06Speaker 13: leading up the games where it seems like we one
- 57:08Speaker 13: day he's not practicing. How is how's that leading to
- 57:13Speaker 13: whatever you're skiing?
- 57:14Speaker 14: Well, I mean he's he's doing a lot of work
- 57:16Speaker 14: and he's getting a lot of practice time in and
- 57:20Speaker 14: you know, I mean there may be a day where
- 57:22Speaker 14: he's limited throughout the week, but you know, I see
- 57:27Speaker 14: a disruptive player. We just know he wants to be
- 57:31Speaker 14: able to to finish some of those plays. He's drawed
- 57:33Speaker 14: some holding penalties. I think there was another one that
- 57:36Speaker 14: probably wasn't called and you know, hit the quarterback and
- 57:40Speaker 14: you know he got close. And so again, keep working
- 57:42Speaker 14: and I know, you know, trying to keep him from
- 57:45Speaker 14: getting frustrated about you know, what what goes down on
- 57:49Speaker 14: the stat sheet, But causing penalties and and being able
- 57:54Speaker 14: to still be disruptive will help us. And then then
- 57:59Speaker 14: that's also lead to him, you know, finishing some of
- 58:02Speaker 14: those plays and getting some of those tackles for loss
- 58:04Speaker 14: or sacks that he that he wants that all defensive
- 58:06Speaker 14: lineman on Mike.
- 58:08Speaker 17: As good as everything was yesterday, it was the second
- 58:10Speaker 17: straight game we kind of a slow start in the
- 58:12Speaker 17: first quarter with its penalties and things on both sides football.
- 58:16Speaker 17: How concerned are you about those slow starts.
- 58:18Speaker 15: And can you put your finger.
- 58:20Speaker 5: On maybe what's going on there?
- 58:23Speaker 14: No, I mean, we want to start fast, and if
- 58:26Speaker 14: we don't, I mean there's a lot of game left.
- 58:28Speaker 14: So there's games where we started fast and you know
- 58:32Speaker 14: gave up some you know, some yards after that or
- 58:35Speaker 14: whatever it may be. You know, just being ready to go.
- 58:38Speaker 14: It just sounds so you know, again adjusting quickly to
- 58:42Speaker 14: what they're doing offensively, I mean what they're doing to us,
- 58:45Speaker 14: you know when we're on a defense, you know, moving
- 58:48Speaker 14: parts and just settling down, probably just settling down on
- 58:51Speaker 14: their script and saying, hey, these are these are new
- 58:54Speaker 14: formations that they hadn't previlegedly shown or these are new motions.
- 58:58Speaker 14: They let's settle down and then make a stop. And
- 59:01Speaker 14: some of that, you know, it is our own doing.
- 59:04Speaker 15: Uh.
- 59:04Speaker 14: Some of it was you know, some new scheme plays
- 59:09Speaker 14: and then you know, I mean I'm trying to think
- 59:11Speaker 14: here the special teams. You know, I thought we we
- 59:15Speaker 14: did okay, we had you know, a hold forty yards
- 59:18Speaker 14: from the ball. We covered the exactly what we talked
- 59:21Speaker 14: about with the dirty kick and being able to you know,
- 59:24Speaker 14: put those guys in a position to field it had
- 59:27Speaker 14: a good return, you know, just unfortunately that that they
- 59:31Speaker 14: called the penalty that they did offensively had a shot
- 59:37Speaker 14: at the first third down, you know, didn't go that way,
- 59:41Speaker 14: didn't hit it, timing everything else. So you know, whether
- 59:46Speaker 14: we start faster, we don't, We're still going to have
- 59:48Speaker 14: to be really good for the rest of the you know,
- 59:52Speaker 14: three and a half quarters or whatever it ends up being.
- 59:55Speaker 14: And uh, you know, we'll keep working towards that and
- 59:58Speaker 14: keep making that a priority. But I did like the
- 1:00:01Speaker 14: fact that we answered and like we talked about, just
- 1:00:03Speaker 14: takes one play and it happened to be Marcus's yesterday,
- 1:00:07Speaker 14: and everything kind of took off from there.
- 1:00:11Speaker 5: And now great moments in history.
- 1:00:17Speaker 17: I believe they were not in pads, right, l Yeah, pads,
- 1:00:22Speaker 17: which you always ask every Wednesday, and then finally the
- 1:00:25Speaker 17: answer changed and you weren't here.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: So do you think they will not be in pads
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: all week? Or will they be in pads today?
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: I think they were in in in pads, but not
- 1:00:35Speaker 7: like full pads yesterday. I think it was light pads,
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: but I have to double check on That's even better
- 1:00:41Speaker 7: because I know, I like, now I'm doubting myself a
- 1:00:46Speaker 7: little bit.
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: Yeah, we noticed too in the locker room, Mac had
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: on one of the scuba hats, so it seemed like
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: he's trying to.
- 1:00:51Speaker 7: Yeah, a lot of the players, that's true. See, like,
- 1:00:54Speaker 7: if you were here, you would have asked these questions
- 1:00:56Speaker 7: and we would have told the listeners about these things.
- 1:00:58Speaker 7: I like, you feel attacked and what the mood was
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: supposed to do?
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: No, he did. He asked all the requisite questions. We
- 1:01:04Speaker 5: were upset that you weren't here to hear the answer. Yeah,
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: I know we would have gotten to this point. A
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: lot did a good job.
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: A lot of the players are wearing like sweatshirts or
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: layers underneath their their their practice outfits because the heat
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: they want to they wanna be hot, be hot because
- 1:01:22Speaker 7: of Miami.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Gotcha.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: Huh, that's it.
- 1:01:26Speaker 7: That's your recap of yesterday's I wonder.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: If that translates because when you were in Miami, the
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: heat comes from the sun right outside rather than coming internally.
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: That's that's a different type of hot. Yea, I think
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: still hot, though.
- 1:01:38Speaker 5: Where did the heat come from?
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: Another places? That's another great moment from.
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: All right back here on Patriot's Unfiltered eight five five
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: pasts five hundred is the hotline podcast at patriots dot com.
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: Is the way to email us.
- 1:01:57Speaker 5: No more full pads at practice, No more full had practice.
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: Freddy was very upset we had this.
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: Rabel was asked about this a couple of weeks ago,
- 1:02:07Speaker 7: and I don't think it was last thing two weeks ago,
- 1:02:10Speaker 7: and he actually said that he doesn't see the difference
- 1:02:13Speaker 7: between shells in full pads because they're not going to
- 1:02:18Speaker 7: be cutting, as he's put it, in practice, so they're
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: not going to be hitting each other's legs in practice,
- 1:02:23Speaker 7: so they about upper body pads of the shoulder pads
- 1:02:29Speaker 7: to him, is the same as being in full pads.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: If you're not going to tackle. I guess it doesn't matter.
- 1:02:34Speaker 5: Yes, that was.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: I'm not happy with that.
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: I think there should be we need some tackling going
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: on in practice because we're having we're we're low in
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: the stats and tackling.
- 1:02:46Speaker 7: So you want them to tackle to the ground.
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: And yes, and I'm.
- 1:02:49Speaker 2: Not saying like goal line, we're talking about it after
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: the game. Like the cone drill where you're one on one,
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: I want to bring the guy to the ground.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: Okay, it's around Oklahoma drills. I hear what you're saying.
- 1:03:02Speaker 7: I don't think I highly do any of the thirty
- 1:03:06Speaker 7: two teams do that.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: This timing maybe I don't agree with it.
- 1:03:09Speaker 5: Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: Yeah, because we're not tackling.
- 1:03:12Speaker 7: Well, it is an interesting and this is not really
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: the point right now, but if you're not going to
- 1:03:16Speaker 7: play anybody in preseason and you're not going to tackle
- 1:03:20Speaker 7: to the ground in training camp at all, like the
- 1:03:22Speaker 7: patriotsdn't tackle to the ground a single day in training camp,
- 1:03:25Speaker 7: and then the starters barely played in the preseason. So
- 1:03:28Speaker 7: stands the reason the first month of the season you
- 1:03:30Speaker 7: can't tackle.
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: Well, but not but that goes for every team, right.
- 1:03:35Speaker 7: Well, some teams might treat it differently. Some teams might tackle.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: To the ground in practice or play in the preseason.
- 1:03:39Speaker 7: Or play in the preseason.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: I just think interesting. You have to practice what you
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: play right, and tackling is a big part of one
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: of the most important parts. I know, I get it.
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: I don't get it.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: It's one of the casualties of the new rules reducing,
- 1:03:54Speaker 3: you know, for player safety, and that's I think something
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: that's suffered.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: I know, more players hopefully healthy and avoiding.
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: More concussions and that kind of stuff, like line depth,
- 1:04:05Speaker 3: it's been a little better.
- 1:04:07Speaker 7: I think what we did, you know, not to make excuses,
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: but Miami's skill group is is just really good.
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: Like that's really hard.
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: Like a Chan's breaking tackles last night, just the same
- 1:04:19Speaker 7: way he was breaking tackles against the Patriots a couple
- 1:04:22Speaker 7: of weeks ago. He's just a really good player. But
- 1:04:25Speaker 7: it's been an issue.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: Let's go to the emails.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Curtis and Saint Louis writes in what a game beautiful
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: job is always on the postgame show. I agree with
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: everything you said. We all know Carolina isn't a very
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: good team this year, or at least thus far, but
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: to win in that fashion, putting that I.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Don't know what he's talking about.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: Anyway, If I'm vable in stretch and Wolf, I'm getting
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: on the phone and I'm making offers to teams to
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: try to require a big play wide receiver. I know,
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: I know, why would teams trade their guys? The Patriots
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: are still building and afar from contending. I don't care.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: I want Drake to be that guy and that difference maker.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: So rather sooner rather than later, helped build him and
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: develop him. I'm calling Philly. I know, why would they
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: trade Brown? They're four and zero Cincinnati. I'm okay, But
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: so his point is he wants to get a big
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: time receiver or you know, a semblance of a w
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: R one right away.
- 1:05:23Speaker 7: We might have a semblance of one.
- 1:05:25Speaker 5: I don't dis miss Cincinnati.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: Which one? Yeah, I mean, like, this is what you
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: have to do. You have to be aggressive. I'm on
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: board with this. I don't know if it would happen,
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: but this is where you have to find Like when
- 1:05:38Speaker 3: opportunity strikes and the team's having an off season, which
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: the Eagles aren't, but you know, and somebody becomes available,
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: this is the time to strike.
- 1:05:45Speaker 5: I don't think a J. Brown is becoming available now.
- 1:05:48Speaker 5: I could be proven wrong on that, but this maybe
- 1:05:53Speaker 5: a week or two away for Cincinnati saying he's last year.
- 1:05:57Speaker 5: You know it was a one year deal, right, I
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: mean he's going to be a free and again, I
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: don't think what you can. Don't think it's out of
- 1:06:03Speaker 5: the roma possibility that they say, you know, we had
- 1:06:06Speaker 5: a lot of aspirations this year. It didn't work out. Unfortunately,
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: the quarterback went down. We'll get something for him and
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: move on.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: Then, with Digs in the slot perfectly. I'd like to
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: joke about the soft but he would pit well. I
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: mean you could see the need for the player, just
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: a good player.
- 1:06:19Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys watched any of that
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: plays down the sideline, he's.
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: Just like, yeah, I mean, Ted's just a Ted reminding him.
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: But that's the big He had a big one taken
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: away too for like one of those garbage alignment penalties
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: that had nothing to do with it, had nothing to
- 1:06:35Speaker 5: do with the play. Yeah, I would take I would
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: take T Higgins and I think there's a chance that
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: Cincinnati would be willing to deal them. Okay, I would
- 1:06:43Speaker 5: take him.
- 1:06:44Speaker 7: I'm not saying I wouldn't, but there is something nice
- 1:06:47Speaker 7: about how every week so far it's been somebody different
- 1:06:50Speaker 7: that has stepped up for the Patriots, like week one's Booty,
- 1:06:53Speaker 7: Week two is Remandre, week three as Hunter Henry, week
- 1:06:56Speaker 7: four Stefon Diggs, and they have really good balance right now. Now,
- 1:06:59Speaker 7: that doesn't mean that a number one ride receiver can't help.
- 1:07:02Speaker 7: I'm not saying that, but I just know that there's
- 1:07:05Speaker 7: certain quarterbacks when you talk to those guys, when they
- 1:07:07Speaker 7: feel forced to get a certain player of the football
- 1:07:11Speaker 7: and so then they start to kind of get pressure
- 1:07:14Speaker 7: from inside, pressure from outside. Like in Philadelphia right now,
- 1:07:18Speaker 7: you have to imagine that we got to get AJ
- 1:07:21Speaker 7: Brown going, We got to get AJ Brown going, but
- 1:07:23Speaker 7: they got to get AJ Brown going, right, Yeah.
- 1:07:25Speaker 5: They targeted him nine times. Yeah, and they only only
- 1:07:29Speaker 5: had two connections. So clearly Jalen Hurst is fling it
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: to AJ Brown, and you know, they got a lot
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: of static. I mean, we don't turn this into a
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: Philly segment, but they got a lot of static because
- 1:07:40Speaker 5: there was just no creativity to what they were doing.
- 1:07:44Speaker 5: I mean against the Rams the week before. I evidently
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: AJ Brown was a big part of that second half comeback.
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I love AJ Brown. I mean he's
- 1:07:51Speaker 3: one of my favorite players in league. I would love
- 1:07:52Speaker 3: to bring him here. But does it give you any
- 1:07:54Speaker 3: pause of him kind of being a pain in the
- 1:07:55Speaker 3: ass when they're four and oh no, and it's you
- 1:07:57Speaker 3: know it would do it.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: Posting on social media.
- 1:07:59Speaker 5: I think this, it's the age old thing. You did
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: this with Diggs, Deuce like you know me.
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: I know you don't know, but I love az Brown
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: like I love Brown in a way that even more.
- 1:08:09Speaker 7: Now Diggs is here and you've embraced him.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: I am very much to see his thing.
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: It's another reason to root against the Bengals, and I
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: like that Austin and Oklahoma rights. And I'm currently unable
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: to guarantee a win against Buffalo, but I will guarantee
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: that if the Patriots beat the Bill's Sunday, the window
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: is officially closed and the Patriots are back in their
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: rightful place at the top of the division and will
- 1:08:33Speaker 2: host a home playoff game this year. So it's all
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: hinging on a win against Buffalo in Week five and
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: Week five okay, to.
- 1:08:43Speaker 5: Get within a game of first place.
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: Like it No, but I mean it might be asking
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: a lot for a win, but I think there are
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: quite a few different outcomes that you could come out
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: of this game feeling positive about, you know, the trajectory
- 1:08:55Speaker 3: to the team. And you know, we really haven't talked
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: at all about the defensive side of the ball, and
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: to me, that's my biggest concern this week going against
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: that offense with some of the concerns we've seen with
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: this defense covering tight ends, handling running backs who can catch.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: You know, I think this is right now kind of
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: a tough matchup for the Patriots, and I'd say going
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: forward into the offseason next year, there needs to be
- 1:09:15Speaker 3: probably if it continues to look like it has with
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: these specific facets of the Patriots defense, it's it's going
- 1:09:21Speaker 3: to be something they have to figure out because you've
- 1:09:22Speaker 3: got to get through Buffalo and you have to have
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: a way to deal with those guys Kincaid, Knox, James Cook.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I think right now you've got some players to handle
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: some wide receivers.
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: But do you think defensively they potentially are set up
- 1:09:37Speaker 5: a little bit better to deal with that offense. You know,
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: I'm a big part of it's going to be their
- 1:09:42Speaker 5: run defense, which as we've talked about. I think has
- 1:09:45Speaker 5: been pretty good. You know, for the most part, I
- 1:09:47Speaker 5: don't think it was as good at this game as
- 1:09:49Speaker 5: it was the first three. But I think it's been
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: pretty good. But you have guys you don't have to
- 1:09:54Speaker 5: sort of sell out to get pressure. They've gotten some
- 1:09:58Speaker 5: pressure with far More and and Landry. I don't know,
- 1:10:03Speaker 5: they might be they might be able to flood some
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: coverage zones in this game. I don't think that the
- 1:10:09Speaker 5: Bills receiving corps is they're a lot like the Patriots.
- 1:10:14Speaker 5: They have, you know, a bunch of guys that can
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: make catches, but they don't have anybody that's really great.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: No, and that's I mean, as good as Josh Allen is.
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: Like I almost find myself being more concerned with James
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: Cook and just how the Patriots playing. You know, I
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: think they play eighty percent nickel now, so they're playing light.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: Maybe it's a Kyle Duggar kon of game. Maybe you
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: put him into the mix a little bit more trying
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: to deal with with Cook, but he's a big problem.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: First down, they're.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: Going to hand the ball off to him under center,
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: and he's going to make plays. I mean he's you know,
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: a top two or three back right now by most metrics,
- 1:10:43Speaker 3: So you know, it's weird to say, oh, I'm not
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: worried about Josh Allen.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: I mean, he's a huge problem.
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: But I just don't know what this Patriots run defense
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: truly is, especially when they say we have to stop
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: the run.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: Yeah, they you know, and I don't know if they can.
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: Sell out to stop it, because then it's Josh Allen nightmare.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: So stopping the run not a nickel and figuring out
- 1:11:01Speaker 3: you know, maybe it is a little more Tonga or
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: something like that, But that, to me is where the
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: game plan kind of has to start.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: First down, figuring out how you can contain Cook.
- 1:11:09Speaker 7: Yeah he's cook right now? Is like he's he's really good.
- 1:11:14Speaker 7: I mean, the fact that they can get under center
- 1:11:15Speaker 7: and just run the ball at you now in Buffalo
- 1:11:19Speaker 7: is why their offense is the most efficient in the league. Like,
- 1:11:22Speaker 7: Allen's great, he's the MVP, but their ability to just
- 1:11:26Speaker 7: you know, do paulicing conventional, turn it around and hand
- 1:11:29Speaker 7: the ball off to the running back like that has
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: really balanced out their offense. So now it's not as
- 1:11:35Speaker 7: volatile as it was. A couple of years ago, or
- 1:11:38Speaker 7: it's you know, Haymakers back and forth with Alan, but
- 1:11:40Speaker 7: he would make some mistakes and you would, you know,
- 1:11:43Speaker 7: be able to win some rounds on him. I just
- 1:11:45Speaker 7: wonder with their receivers and with this whole offense, a
- 1:11:49Speaker 7: lot of teams are just playing a lot of soft
- 1:11:51Speaker 7: zone coverage and allowing Alan to check the ball down,
- 1:11:55Speaker 7: and they are just eating after the catch like Shakir
- 1:11:57Speaker 7: and these guys are just piling up yards after the
- 1:12:00Speaker 7: catch because everybody's backing off and is afraid of Josh Allen.
- 1:12:05Speaker 7: And if I was the Patriots, I do think about
- 1:12:08Speaker 7: we have Gonzo, we have Carlton Davis, because anybody actually
- 1:12:12Speaker 7: challenged these Buffalo receivers and gotten in their faces at
- 1:12:15Speaker 7: the line of scrimmage and try to throw the timing
- 1:12:18Speaker 7: off and try to get Alan to hold the football,
- 1:12:21Speaker 7: and you know, all these dinking dunk screens and things
- 1:12:26Speaker 7: like that. It's just killing teams. It's they're killing teams
- 1:12:29Speaker 7: like that. So I just wonder, if you're the Patriots,
- 1:12:31Speaker 7: if maybe you kind of take the fight to them
- 1:12:34Speaker 7: a little bit.
- 1:12:34Speaker 5: I like it on Sunday night.
- 1:12:36Speaker 7: Yeah, it sounds great in theory to just make them
- 1:12:40Speaker 7: march and make them go on these long drives and
- 1:12:43Speaker 7: do it hopefully stop them in the red zone. But
- 1:12:45Speaker 7: then Kleo Shakur breaks two tackles and it's a forty
- 1:12:48Speaker 7: five yard touchdown.
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: And win the toss. Do you defer take the ball?
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: I would defer, but I like deferring.
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: I do that my flag football coaching as well, because
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: we've done both this year.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: Right yeah, yeah, yeah, that was and that was very
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: able to stay and wanted a fast start. I just
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: think that the defense has kind of been flipped on
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: its head for me, because you know, under Bill all
- 1:13:07Speaker 3: those years, you always felt like, well, they got big guys,
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: they should be able to generally stop the run, but
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: they never it was sometimes struggle for pass rush juice.
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: And now I feel like, let's get to third and eight.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: I feel pretty good when they're in third and eight.
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: It's like first and ten, second and five, like those
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: are the downs that terrify me now instead of you know,
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: now I feel pretty good about their pass rush. They're
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: going to get after the quarterback.
- 1:13:28Speaker 5: That's the first and second down.
- 1:13:29Speaker 7: Whorry would buffalo like if you back off and you
- 1:13:32Speaker 7: just let them take profits all day long on first
- 1:13:34Speaker 7: and second down. You're never going to be in third
- 1:13:36Speaker 7: and long.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: That's why I just go get them right like that.
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: Do you have nothing to lose in this game?
- 1:13:39Speaker 5: Play aggressive play man?
- 1:13:40Speaker 7: Trust your guys on the outside to play Manta man
- 1:13:43Speaker 7: like Kean Coleman Shakir Like they're good players, but they're not.
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: This is they don't have a digs out there that's
- 1:13:49Speaker 7: going to kill you in Manta man coverage.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: Mm hmm.
- 1:13:51Speaker 7: I just I would like to see them do that.
- 1:13:53Speaker 7: But I'm glad you brought up the defense because we
- 1:13:55Speaker 7: haven't really talked about the defense much. And Christian Barmore
- 1:13:57Speaker 7: and Milton Williams are a problem.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: Like those two.
- 1:14:03Speaker 7: Earning those paychecks, Like I know they're expensive, but they
- 1:14:06Speaker 7: are Millon Williams has been worth every penny, like he
- 1:14:09Speaker 7: is a game wrecord, Like.
- 1:14:11Speaker 5: That's good to see. Those are two guys that.
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: Teams are going to start the game plan for if
- 1:14:14Speaker 7: they haven't already.
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: Max in Atlanta writes in I want to make sure
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: I don't get let recency bias impact my question. So
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: now that we know for a fact, he says that
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: Drake May is the best quarterback in the NFL, do
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: we trade away our first round pick for an impact player.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: This goes back to our T Higgins.
- 1:14:33Speaker 3: I'm much more in that realm right now than I've
- 1:14:35Speaker 3: ever been in the past.
- 1:14:37Speaker 7: Yeah, depends on who it is.
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: It depends on who it is. But I'm much more
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: interesting now.
- 1:14:42Speaker 5: I don't think that you need to give up necessarily
- 1:14:45Speaker 5: a first round pick to get T Higgins.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: No, because you're gonna have to give him a contract.
- 1:14:49Speaker 5: Spiring contracts, you know. But yes, I'd be interested in
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: acquiring an impact, high impact player, especially on offense.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: And he says, I typically on support trading away a
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: first round pick. But since we're going to be picking
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: thirty second overall, so.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: But I mean, like he's joking, But I mean, but
- 1:15:07Speaker 3: even if you're in the mid first round, it's it's not, oh,
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: we're potentially cheering around trading away the fourth overall pick,
- 1:15:13Speaker 3: you know. So, I it depends on the player. But
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: I think that's the point you're getting to. There are
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: definite needs, depends on the you know, I think they
- 1:15:21Speaker 3: definitely could. You are going to need a pass rusher
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: long term, a defensive end who can play every down,
- 1:15:26Speaker 3: you know, kind of like Landry does eventually. I think
- 1:15:29Speaker 3: the safety position, the linebacker position, those will all be
- 1:15:31Speaker 3: but that that wide receiver ones out there and you
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: have a chance if you.
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: Want that, if that particular position is what you're interested in.
- 1:15:37Speaker 5: You know, Tyreek Hill going down last night hurts that,
- 1:15:41Speaker 5: you know, not necessarily because the Patriots would have been
- 1:15:43Speaker 5: interested in Tyreek Hill, but he could have been a
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: guy that's available, and that's one less team that's looking
- 1:15:48Speaker 5: for that. Yeah, you know, like let's say he went somewhere, Well,
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: that opens up your possibility of getting one of the
- 1:15:54Speaker 5: other ones that might be available.
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: Yeah, you know.
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: And we're a little bit of a victim of the
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: moment right now. But like you would think that there
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: would be some excitement to come here for a player like,
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: you know, a T.
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: Higgins. It doesn't feel like right I'm going to New England.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: It's been a waste land.
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: Like there's some positive vibes here right now. We'll see
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: how long they last and they vibration.
- 1:16:11Speaker 5: I agree with that.
- 1:16:13Speaker 7: Come on, you gotta watch Drake May and be like,
- 1:16:16Speaker 7: you know, if you give T Higgins, they have Patriots tapency.
- 1:16:19Speaker 7: All these ex routes that Kishan Boudi is running, We're
- 1:16:22Speaker 7: gonna put you there and then we're gonna have digs
- 1:16:24Speaker 7: on the other side. Like Higgins, you're all of a
- 1:16:27Speaker 7: sudden like okay, And if.
- 1:16:28Speaker 5: You're Higgins and you're saying like they don't they don't
- 1:16:31Speaker 5: want to keep me, or they can't keep me with
- 1:16:34Speaker 5: Borrow and Chase they can't afford because I mean, if
- 1:16:37Speaker 5: I were Higgins, I would just rather stay where I am. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:16:40Speaker 5: and wait for Borrow to come back next year and
- 1:16:42Speaker 5: try again. But if they don't want them, and it
- 1:16:45Speaker 5: certainly seems like they said maybe they don't want him
- 1:16:48Speaker 5: as not the right term, they can't they can't figure
- 1:16:51Speaker 5: out a way to do it because they're so cheap.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, and then another way it looks to me,
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: another selling point is this pretty much this whole offense
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: is coming back next year. I mean, everybody's under contract.
- 1:16:59Speaker 3: I know things can change, but you know, it's like
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: the Austin Hoopers. There's a couple of guys on one
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: year deals, but otherwise all the receivers, Drake.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: The running backs, the line.
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: I mean, it's it's all coming back next year. So
- 1:17:12Speaker 3: just continuity, that's a positive thing.
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: Ted in Las Vegas.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: According to Tankathon, the two lowest strengths of schedule as
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: of today are the Patriots at three sixty eight in
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: Buffalo at three eighty two. No other team is under
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: a four hundred. We need to see both May and
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: Allen step up against good teams.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: He's the only kidding.
- 1:17:33Speaker 7: Well, both teams play the NFC South this year.
- 1:17:36Speaker 5: That terrible schedules in the ANFC for them.
- 1:17:41Speaker 7: The division games against the Jets and the Dolphins are not.
- 1:17:44Speaker 5: I would just say Buffalo did be Baltimore. He's kidding, No, No,
- 1:17:48Speaker 5: I know he is. I know he is.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Yeah, Baltimore the tough place, but they've had a tough schedule.
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: But that's why the record for Buffalo is so bad
- 1:17:57Speaker 5: is because Baltimore is uncharacteristically one in three r not
- 1:18:00Speaker 5: all one in three's are the same.
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: True, right, Chris and Santa Fe New Mexico. It's a
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: how do I participate in kurseh words?
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: The chat? It's always says.
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: Waiting for approval from moderator, and my post never show. Well,
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: here's the thing to you, Chris and everybody else. I
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: get hundreds and hundreds of comments coming through. I'm watching
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: the game I look down and if something catches my eye,
- 1:18:25Speaker 2: I post it. So there's a better than good chance
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: I don't even see your comment, but keep trying.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: That's all I can say. You got like a like
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: a velvet rope to get into your chat. It's it's
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: just timing. So it's all about timing. It's all about timing.
- 1:18:41Speaker 5: So as it should be. Digital Gold Club member.
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: Uh Ford and Savannah.
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: While you were talking about digs in the slot today,
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: I had a revelation. You now have a Patriot's brand
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: name for soaping the slots, digs in the slot. Keep
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: your forever Foxborough fresh with digs in the slot. M
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: that was okay, there you go.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: We tried so op on the outside a crusade. I
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: just I love it.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: It's weird the things that crawl out my keyster and
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: Buddy and it's just like where again this is one
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: person says something and then everyone just starts repeating it,
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: and I'm like seeing it all over the internet.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: That the slot, that's what.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: And then we're watching you know, the Paul shows and
- 1:19:24Speaker 3: then digs in the slot and like scotch.
- 1:19:25Speaker 5: Olexiting right there, like tell him so you.
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: Know, Nick and Arizona. Nick and Arizona says, please correct
- 1:19:32Speaker 2: Paul on T.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: Higgins. He's not on an expiring contract.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: He signed a four year, one hundred and fifty million
- 1:19:38Speaker 2: dollar contract in March.
- 1:19:39Speaker 7: Yeah, oh, my bad, he signed an extension. I didn't
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: correct because I wasn't one hundred percent sure. I thought
- 1:19:45Speaker 7: maybe you knew something I didn't know.
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: I thought he signed a one year extension. He signed
- 1:19:48Speaker 5: up maybe never mind, No, never mind.
- 1:19:52Speaker 7: That, but it's it's technically like a two year deal. Hey,
- 1:19:55Speaker 7: there's an out.
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: However, right, Andrew in La says he saw it bad.
- 1:19:59Speaker 5: No, but I gave really bad information.
- 1:20:02Speaker 2: Andrew and La says he saw that Higgins can be
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: traded with little to no cap hit.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: Oh on the Bengals cap.
- 1:20:08Speaker 5: Forget the Caps crap. But they clearly did something that
- 1:20:12Speaker 5: I didn't think they did. They invested in them.
- 1:20:14Speaker 7: Yeah, well kind of.
- 1:20:16Speaker 5: They gave it.
- 1:20:17Speaker 7: He took one of the most team friendly start.
- 1:20:19Speaker 5: I just thought that they gave him a one year
- 1:20:22Speaker 5: thing and said let's run it all back one more time.
- 1:20:24Speaker 5: I didn't realize he signed a four year deal, even
- 1:20:26Speaker 5: if it's only a two year deal. My guess is
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: he wants to stay there.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: Yes, James Pettig grew the most interesting Patriots fan in
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: the world. Rights in question for Paul, do we score
- 1:20:37Speaker 2: sixty with Chisholm starting at least?
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: Imagine how many punt return touchdowns he would have had
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: we have great play strength.
- 1:20:46Speaker 7: I have a question for Paul. How many points did
- 1:20:49Speaker 7: the Patriots offense score on Sunday?
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: I mean he would he would subtract fourteen.
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: I think yeah. But here's here's the thing, and Mike
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: can be my witness to this. There are times when
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: special teams points or points that you wouldn't have gotten.
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: I don't think that game was one of them. I
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: think the Patriots offense, after the first drive of the
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: game for the next I don't know, four or five possessions,
- 1:21:19Speaker 5: just drove the ball downfield at will. So had let's
- 1:21:24Speaker 5: say the second punt return didn't happen, my guess is
- 1:21:27Speaker 5: they would have driven sixty one years just.
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: A normal return.
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: So, yes, they only really scored twenty eight, but I
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: would say in this case it's closer to forty two
- 1:21:40Speaker 5: because of how well the offense played.
- 1:21:42Speaker 2: That's very magnanimously. We've come a long way. You've come
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: a long way.
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: I don't really think it's that hard even think. I
- 1:21:52Speaker 5: think you watch a game and you analyze what you see, right.
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: Evan said something earlier in the show when we were
- 1:21:59Speaker 5: talking about running game and I had made the comment
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: that all three running backs averaged more than four yards
- 1:22:05Speaker 5: to carry, and Evan had a very logical yeah, but
- 1:22:10Speaker 5: that was on the other side saying a lot of
- 1:22:14Speaker 5: it was kind of window dressing. You get an end
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: around to this guy, a fake end around to that guy,
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: which sprung this guy for that one. I'm like, yeah,
- 1:22:22Speaker 5: you're kind of right. He didn't just line it up,
- 1:22:25Speaker 5: and he's.
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: Come a long way. No, no, like even to.
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: Give him those points come a long way.
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: I think Paul, I give him credit because he always
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: embraces the rare times when he is corrected or you know,
- 1:22:38Speaker 3: someone comes up with a good argument back at him,
- 1:22:40Speaker 3: and I think he is always like, that's a good highlights.
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: We go, we just went viral. Do you know what?
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: Like you had the whole thing about this digs thing
- 1:22:53Speaker 5: that crawled up your keyster. You know what really crawls
- 1:22:55Speaker 5: up my keyster is when someone is clearly wrong, and
- 1:22:59Speaker 5: no matter what you do to tell that person he's wrong.
- 1:23:03Speaker 5: You know, in factual they won't ever just wont it
- 1:23:06Speaker 5: bothers me? If you talk, if you talk for a
- 1:23:12Speaker 5: living and you're analyzing sports or whatever you're doing, you
- 1:23:16Speaker 5: know you're gonna say stupid stuff. You're going to say
- 1:23:18Speaker 5: things that are wrong. You're gonna make predictions that don't
- 1:23:21Speaker 5: end up happening. You can pretend that you were right,
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: but then I think people see through that.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: So I think it's happened once or twice in my
- 1:23:30Speaker 3: six years here that Paul's like, actually do So that's
- 1:23:33Speaker 3: a good argument.
- 1:23:33Speaker 5: You're right, I'm very I'm a very opinionated guy, so
- 1:23:38Speaker 5: sometimes I'm gonna they're gonna be way off.
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: Well, sometimes he's a subjective too, and then you'll, you know,
- 1:23:43Speaker 3: you'll cling to your beliefs that nuanced or everything.
- 1:23:46Speaker 5: Let's go back to this game. We'll go back to
- 1:23:47Speaker 5: the Panthers game. I think you could make an argument
- 1:23:51Speaker 5: that the other team gets the ball first, they go
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: right down the field, Patriots went three and out, Panthers
- 1:23:58Speaker 5: get the ball again. They start to go right down
- 1:24:00Speaker 5: on the field again and inexplicably run a draw from
- 1:24:02Speaker 5: the Patriots side of the field. On third and long.
- 1:24:05Speaker 5: I think they were trying to set up a situation
- 1:24:07Speaker 5: where they could go for it on fullurth down into
- 1:24:09Speaker 5: the Patriots credit. They stopped the draw for a little
- 1:24:11Speaker 5: to no gain. Horrifically bad call. Right then they punt
- 1:24:17Speaker 5: and the guy returns at eighty seven.
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: Yards right right, big swing, big swing.
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: If you change one play, okay, instead of running a draw,
- 1:24:25Speaker 5: they throw it past the tech McMillan for a first
- 1:24:27Speaker 5: down or no, no, no play, they throw it past the
- 1:24:32Speaker 5: tech McMillan for a first down. Could you make an
- 1:24:35Speaker 5: argument that that that game doesn't end forty two to thirteen?
- 1:24:37Speaker 5: Oh yeah, I would like there's a lot of nuance
- 1:24:41Speaker 5: that goes on to things. Now you can only go
- 1:24:43Speaker 5: by what actually happened, And what actually happened is Marcus
- 1:24:47Speaker 5: Jones changed the game. The game got flipped on its
- 1:24:50Speaker 5: head right there, and they took that. Then the next
- 1:24:55Speaker 5: drive was probably the most effective Patriots drive I've seen
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: in about four or five years. The first time down
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: drive they made it fourteen six was one of the
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: best looking Patriots drives that I've seen in a long time.
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: Like chunk play, chunk play, chunk play touchdown, like when
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: was when have we seen that?
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: Right?
- 1:25:13Speaker 5: You know? And now what happened back and what happened
- 1:25:15Speaker 5: at fourteen to six?
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: Mike, Oh jeez, you gonna put me on the spot.
- 1:25:18Speaker 5: With this capitulation, right, just saying piece of where out?
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: No, they were there, and I think there were a
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: couple third down.
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: I think when it was actually when they missed the
- 1:25:30Speaker 5: field goal. I think it was fourteen six when they
- 1:25:32Speaker 5: missed the field goal, not today, Like, yeah, I don't
- 1:25:34Speaker 5: think it's gonna happen. You should go to the game
- 1:25:37Speaker 5: check back broke the h two things.
- 1:25:40Speaker 7: One they did drive into Patriots territory on six of their.
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: Several times six of the Brice.
- 1:25:45Speaker 7: Young's nine possessions. And just watching the game back, on defense,
- 1:25:48Speaker 7: I didn't think that it was like in this dominant
- 1:25:52Speaker 7: defensive effort like the scoreboard necessarily suggested, and some of
- 1:25:56Speaker 7: the plays that the Panthers made, you just worry that
- 1:26:00Speaker 7: like better offenses, like I don't know, Buffalo are going
- 1:26:03Speaker 7: to be able to hit some of those same notes
- 1:26:05Speaker 7: and it's going to look a lot different. But on
- 1:26:08Speaker 7: you know, the plus side of things, the Patriots won
- 1:26:12Speaker 7: like all of the important third downs in this game.
- 1:26:15Speaker 5: I said, like I said to you guys, like I
- 1:26:17Speaker 5: feel like the Panthers have had the ball at the
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: Patriots forty this entire game. Yeah, and they had thirteen
- 1:26:23Speaker 5: points to show.
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: For it, knocking on the door.
- 1:26:24Speaker 5: But all the time when there was like the Patriots
- 1:26:27Speaker 5: won all the important downs.
- 1:26:28Speaker 7: Yeah, when there was like a high leverage third down, yeah,
- 1:26:30Speaker 7: the Patriots won all of them. And you know, really
- 1:26:33Speaker 7: their their pass rush won all of them. But yeah,
- 1:26:36Speaker 7: it was that was good to see. But there was
- 1:26:39Speaker 7: there was some leakiness on the defense, like it was
- 1:26:42Speaker 7: not That's why I was thirteen game on defense.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: I still don't know what it is.
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: It's been an hour and a half of you know,
- 1:26:49Speaker 5: we're talking about you know, playoff team and changing the
- 1:26:53Speaker 5: narrative and all that stuff, and I'm on board with
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: it all. Believe me. I am. I think that you
- 1:26:58Speaker 5: showed that you separated yourself from those teams. And I
- 1:27:02Speaker 5: know it was only one game, but I think they did.
- 1:27:04Speaker 5: But you, to Evan's point, you have a situation where
- 1:27:09Speaker 5: a bad offense, and Carolina is a bad offense in
- 1:27:12Speaker 5: a thirty to nothering win the previous week, they played
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: bad offense.
- 1:27:16Speaker 7: Like one hundred and twenty pouns?
- 1:27:17Speaker 5: Right, what happens if you get in a situation where
- 1:27:21Speaker 5: Buffalo is playing this week and you're playing a similar
- 1:27:23Speaker 5: kind of defense, and instead of getting to the forty,
- 1:27:26Speaker 5: they get into your end zone every time. Now, instead
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: of being able to throw the ball seventeen times and
- 1:27:31Speaker 5: having Drake May look like a star, and having the
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: offensive line look like they're giving all this protection, by
- 1:27:37Speaker 5: the way, against the team that it had one sack
- 1:27:39Speaker 5: all year, how does it look when Greg Russeau and
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: Joey Bosa, you know, and aj Epinessa are coming after
- 1:27:48Speaker 5: you with the two school leads.
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: Totally, so totally, that's the flip.
- 1:27:52Speaker 5: Side of this whole thing. Now, hopefully we won't find
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: that out. Hopefully the Patriots go into this Buffalo game
- 1:27:57Speaker 5: and they run the ball effectively against the team and
- 1:28:00Speaker 5: I don't think stops the run very well, and you're
- 1:28:03Speaker 5: able to get a lead and dictate the way the
- 1:28:05Speaker 5: game is played and make Josh Allen, you know, have
- 1:28:07Speaker 5: to have the pressure of keeping up.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: That's what I was just saying.
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: I just I don't feel like I really know who
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: this defense truly is yet, and they need to see
- 1:28:15Speaker 3: how they stack up against the really good teams, and
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: what does it look like when you know, you really
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: have to stop the run or you really have to
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: you know, get off the field and some of these
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: long drives the teams are putting together on them and
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: this will be a proving ground this week for them
- 1:28:28Speaker 3: to see what what they really have, uh, because it's
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: you know, like you said, they haven't really faced a
- 1:28:33Speaker 3: lot of dynamic teams, and even then it's been circumstantial
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: the way they've kind of pulled out the winners.
- 1:28:39Speaker 5: To play three bad offenses and the one good offense
- 1:28:43Speaker 5: they played is kind of in disarray in Miami.
- 1:28:46Speaker 7: Yeah, but they like not having Gonzo just from like,
- 1:28:51Speaker 7: how are they going to game plan teams perspective, like
- 1:28:54Speaker 7: they didn't have.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: That's the wildcard. That's like the one wildcard of it
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: all right.
- 1:28:58Speaker 5: I mean it looks like when the best player and
- 1:29:00Speaker 5: the team is back on the field.
- 1:29:03Speaker 7: The results I just more mean, like, you know, they
- 1:29:06Speaker 7: haven't been traveling with receivers.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Yeah, less options.
- 1:29:09Speaker 5: So like one of.
- 1:29:10Speaker 7: The things that ver Abel pointed out after the game
- 1:29:12Speaker 7: was that the Panthers kept moving tet inside and they
- 1:29:16Speaker 7: were kind of hiding where they were going to line
- 1:29:18Speaker 7: up tet down to down, and they were moving him
- 1:29:20Speaker 7: around a lot, and so he actually got matched up
- 1:29:22Speaker 7: on Jalen Hawkins a few times. Oh yeah, which is
- 1:29:25Speaker 7: not a matchup that you want if you're the Patriots.
- 1:29:27Speaker 7: No offense to Jalen Hawkins. But now that they have
- 1:29:30Speaker 7: Gonzo back at full strength, like this Gonzo now travel
- 1:29:33Speaker 7: inside with the Ted McMillan, Like, I don't know how
- 1:29:36Speaker 7: this coaching staff is going with this game.
- 1:29:39Speaker 5: I just don't know.
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: Who on who like Shakir, because like Shaki is a
- 1:29:42Speaker 7: slot receiver.
- 1:29:43Speaker 5: Wondering if you just take a guy like ke On Coleman,
- 1:29:45Speaker 5: who I think you kind of agree with me on
- 1:29:47Speaker 5: key On Coleman. He's okay, but I don't think he's
- 1:29:49Speaker 5: anything special. I don't think he's a great road runner. Yeah,
- 1:29:52Speaker 5: I think you could eliminate him with with probably either
- 1:29:55Speaker 5: one of them.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: I think I would go Man on Man and I
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: would Key on Cook.
- 1:30:00Speaker 2: I would try to like put an extra guy, Like
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: you know you have spies for quarterbacks, I'd have a
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: spy for the running back, Like wherever he goes, you go,
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: in addition to whatever coverage is out there. So effectively,
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: you're double teaming him everywhere on the field.
- 1:30:15Speaker 7: See, I think Shakira is in the passing game. Shaquira
- 1:30:19Speaker 7: is the engine of that offense. He's so if the
- 1:30:22Speaker 7: problem with him is that they use him in motion
- 1:30:25Speaker 7: so much. So like if you're gonna play man to
- 1:30:27Speaker 7: man against him and they bring him in motion, like
- 1:30:30Speaker 7: now you're chasing, Like now you have to run with
- 1:30:32Speaker 7: the motion in man to man and that's hard to do. So,
- 1:30:35Speaker 7: Like that's why a lot of teams just play sides
- 1:30:38Speaker 7: against Buffalo and just catch the receivers when they come
- 1:30:41Speaker 7: out of the formation in the motion. So like Shakira's
- 1:30:44Speaker 7: it's hard because Shakira is not like a traditional receiver
- 1:30:47Speaker 7: where like he's just gonna be here all the time
- 1:30:49Speaker 7: and Gonzo can just stand over him, like he's gonna
- 1:30:52Speaker 7: move around, he's gonna be in motion, he's gonna be
- 1:30:54Speaker 7: in the backfields. Like so there's different things that they.
- 1:30:57Speaker 5: Do with it.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: Here's an early prediction game so far this season for
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: Kyle Duggar.
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: Well with the Hawkins injury, it's it.
- 1:31:05Speaker 3: I mean, he might say I might.
- 1:31:08Speaker 5: Have to play back, and I think he I think
- 1:31:10Speaker 5: he could. I agree with Mike. The other part of
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: what you guys are talking about with Shakir that would
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: worry me is if so let's say Carlton Davis takes
- 1:31:19Speaker 5: Keyon Coleman out of the game and then they decide
- 1:31:21Speaker 5: to maybe double Shakir to make sure that he doesn't
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: get this kind of yards after the catch. Because I
- 1:31:26Speaker 5: like Shakiro a lot. By the way, he was one
- 1:31:28Speaker 5: of the guys in the draft that year that I
- 1:31:29Speaker 5: really liked, both Josh Allen especially, but specifically. Buffalo has
- 1:31:37Speaker 5: done this in the past. They now they have some
- 1:31:39Speaker 5: of these other guys that aren't always they're not world beaters,
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: but like Josh Palmer's not bad. And you know, they
- 1:31:45Speaker 5: have Elijah Moore this year who's kind of a nick
- 1:31:48Speaker 5: niche kind of player. These guys are capable of making plays.
- 1:31:52Speaker 5: They're not gonna like, Elijah Moore is not going to
- 1:31:54Speaker 5: catch twelve passes for one hundred and fifty yards, but
- 1:31:57Speaker 5: he might catch three and and and end up with
- 1:32:00Speaker 5: like sixty because he's kind of has capability. Do you
- 1:32:03Speaker 5: remember the twenty one season after the game in Buffalo
- 1:32:08Speaker 5: that was the wind game, the three you know, the
- 1:32:10Speaker 5: fourteen or ten game, whatever, they came back here and
- 1:32:14Speaker 5: josh Allen just ripped him apart. They didn't punt. Isaiah
- 1:32:17Speaker 5: McKenzie killed Miles Bryant that day. That's to me, that's
- 1:32:23Speaker 5: what I think of, Like Elijah Moore, Jortis Samuel I
- 1:32:25Speaker 5: don't think it's even been active in some of these games,
- 1:32:27Speaker 5: but played last so did he. Those kinds of players,
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: Joshua Palmer.
- 1:32:31Speaker 1: But that's the brilliins of josh Allen too. Willing to
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: go to those guys.
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: He can take those third and fourth and fifth options.
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: And if you decide to take that, what I really
- 1:32:39Speaker 5: want away from me, I can beat you with these
- 1:32:41Speaker 5: guys too. And by the way, dul thinking kid and Dawstins,
- 1:32:45Speaker 5: we're both pretty good.
- 1:32:46Speaker 7: Jackson great blocker.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, they got it all right now. I mean,
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: Buffalo is not a lot of credit.
- 1:32:51Speaker 5: This is not an easy task.
- 1:32:52Speaker 7: It's probably the best offense in the NFL.
- 1:32:54Speaker 5: It's a reason they score thirty every week.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: Ivan's in California.
- 1:32:57Speaker 15: Hey, Ivan, Hey guys, how you doing good? I got
- 1:33:03Speaker 15: a quick question, but before before that, for me, from
- 1:33:06Speaker 15: where I stand, I think there's just as good a chance. Honestly,
- 1:33:10Speaker 15: we're going to go into Buffalo and get smoked. And
- 1:33:12Speaker 15: I'm not trying to be negative. I just feel like
- 1:33:14Speaker 15: the way the defense, you know, they've got great tight
- 1:33:16Speaker 15: ends and everything you guys have just been touching on.
- 1:33:19Speaker 15: I just think it is one of those games where
- 1:33:21Speaker 15: it's going to be really hard to stop this guy.
- 1:33:23Speaker 15: So for me, I think a win would be if
- 1:33:25Speaker 15: we can go into the fourth quarter with a shot
- 1:33:28Speaker 15: and play a clean game. You know, then you know, hey,
- 1:33:32Speaker 15: listen as special teams player or something like that. Who knows,
- 1:33:34Speaker 15: we get a lucky bounce. But this is a really
- 1:33:38Speaker 15: tough task, but it doesn't derail what they're doing. I
- 1:33:42Speaker 15: just like to I think, just temper the excitement. I think,
- 1:33:45Speaker 15: you know, we have to understand the Buffalo is at
- 1:33:47Speaker 15: the top of their game right now, and our defense
- 1:33:49Speaker 15: is still you know, I think there's still a lot
- 1:33:52Speaker 15: to be desired, I think in certain ways. But with
- 1:33:55Speaker 15: that said, I'll jump to my question and then jump
- 1:33:57Speaker 15: and that is on offense. I know Diggs, you know,
- 1:34:01Speaker 15: people are saying he's a slot when we know obviously
- 1:34:03Speaker 15: it's not just that, but thank you. I'm wondering if
- 1:34:06Speaker 15: how we can incorporated Kyle Williams so that we can
- 1:34:10Speaker 15: you know, with Diggs being in the slot, can we
- 1:34:13Speaker 15: what is it going to take to get him maybe
- 1:34:15Speaker 15: on the field, stretch the field, and uh, I think
- 1:34:18Speaker 15: if we can get him more involved in the offense.
- 1:34:22Speaker 5: All right field a little bit more often in this game,
- 1:34:24Speaker 5: and I think I've probably be able to speak to
- 1:34:28Speaker 5: this better. I think they had something dialed up for
- 1:34:30Speaker 5: him a couple of different a couple of times, and
- 1:34:33Speaker 5: unfortunately they weren't able to That was kind of an
- 1:34:39Speaker 5: ill advice. That was after the after the bogus face
- 1:34:42Speaker 5: mask on Hooper, they ran an end around for like
- 1:34:44Speaker 5: minus two. Yeah, but I think they ran a shot
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: play to Williams earlier.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: In the game.
- 1:34:49Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:34:49Speaker 7: They they've done that, honestly, going all the way back
- 1:34:53Speaker 7: to Week one or week two. Week two against Miami,
- 1:34:55Speaker 7: they ran a one man route to him on a
- 1:34:58Speaker 7: double reverse face and it was him that was running
- 1:35:01Speaker 7: the go and they ran yet last week they tried
- 1:35:04Speaker 7: to run a double move to him towards the end
- 1:35:07Speaker 7: of the game against Pittsburgh. He was on the outside,
- 1:35:10Speaker 7: ran a little out and up just didn't bite up.
- 1:35:12Speaker 7: So they've tried a few different things, you know, on
- 1:35:15Speaker 7: the digs, crossing route explosive. He was on the deep
- 1:35:18Speaker 7: post that occupied the safety. So I don't think that
- 1:35:21Speaker 7: Kyle Williams has been like I know everybody wants him
- 1:35:25Speaker 7: to get into the box score, and I know everybody
- 1:35:27Speaker 7: wants them to get production and things like that. But
- 1:35:30Speaker 7: he's playing, you know, he's he's the outside vertical stretch
- 1:35:34Speaker 7: of their offense when he's on the field, and sometimes
- 1:35:37Speaker 7: that's just to clear out space. It's not necessarily to
- 1:35:41Speaker 7: get him the football. I think he's done a fine
- 1:35:42Speaker 7: job at it. You know, I have no quibbles with
- 1:35:45Speaker 7: what he's doing right now.
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: I would agree.
- 1:35:47Speaker 2: Boston Cream wants to know when you gave the nod
- 1:35:50Speaker 2: last game, second quarter, fourteen to six.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: Oh, I thought you were gonna say it, and I
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: don't give the nots.
- 1:35:55Speaker 5: I don't give the knot anymore.
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: Right, So say that. So you didn't give the not
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: the nod.
- 1:36:00Speaker 5: I don't give it publicly anymore.
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: No, no more public it's behind a paywall.
- 1:36:04Speaker 7: You have to get this game is over in the
- 1:36:06Speaker 7: second quarter.
- 1:36:06Speaker 2: Okay he did, Yeah, but you're not publicly giving a
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: nod anymore?
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: And why is that?
- 1:36:13Speaker 5: Because they don't earn it?
- 1:36:14Speaker 1: Okay, Okay, they haven't earned.
- 1:36:17Speaker 5: There's been too many nods, mental nods that they were like.
- 1:36:23Speaker 5: I'll give you the most recent example was Week two. Yeah,
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: I looked at Mike. I said, I think this game
- 1:36:28Speaker 5: is over. Five minutes later they were losing.
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: Yeah, right, Mike.
- 1:36:33Speaker 5: Yeah, that's when you get mad at me. Sometimes Mike
- 1:36:36Speaker 5: gets mad.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: Come on, I give the nod, you know, just real quick.
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: I was.
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: I think I brought up Malcolm Mitchell in the past.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: It's just an example of kind of an outside rookie
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: receiver and you know, his snaps. I kind of a
- 1:36:47Speaker 3: gainst what I was going to look for. But in
- 1:36:48Speaker 3: twenty sixteen, right out of the gate, thirty nine snaps,
- 1:36:51Speaker 3: thirty one snaps. I mean, first game, five targets, you know,
- 1:36:54Speaker 3: two catches. But he's just active right out of the gate,
- 1:36:57Speaker 3: which I just think is interesting. Be a little patient
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: with Kyle Williams, but clearly they know what he can do.
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: And I mean I agree with the general sentiment. I
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: think people see it like eventually him on the outside
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: and you know work.
- 1:37:10Speaker 5: You know, before the season's over. It's just I don't know,
- 1:37:13Speaker 5: not going to put a deadline on it. I'd like
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: to see him sort of emerge, you know, ahead of
- 1:37:18Speaker 5: like Mac Collins. And I'm not talking about the same role.
- 1:37:22Speaker 5: Don't like this is not like, oh he's playing this
- 1:37:25Speaker 5: role and he doesn't do that, Paul. I'm saying the
- 1:37:27Speaker 5: amount of snaps Mac Collins gets I would like to
- 1:37:29Speaker 5: see flip flop. You know, Mac Collins gets fifteen snaps
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: and Kyle Williams ends up getting thirty or whatever the
- 1:37:36Speaker 5: case may be.
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: But like, what did I call it Mac Hollins in
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: the summer. I don't know if it was four or five,
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: but like he's an ideal five. He's like guy who
- 1:37:43Speaker 3: plays special teams. He's got some size. He'll go out there,
- 1:37:45Speaker 3: can blow, you know, he can catch. But but if
- 1:37:47Speaker 3: Williams can emerge as that two three guy, you know,
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: like compliment.
- 1:37:53Speaker 7: Not going to take Mac Collins off the field.
- 1:37:55Speaker 5: He's an ideal is what I want to see. I
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: didn't say it was going to happen.
- 1:37:58Speaker 7: But it's just his blockings too valuable. And I know
- 1:38:01Speaker 7: that that drives people crazy, but his ability to block
- 1:38:04Speaker 7: allows them.
- 1:38:05Speaker 5: To thought he was shaking your head up my scouting
- 1:38:07Speaker 5: report on the no, no, no, it's like that he
- 1:38:09Speaker 5: does all those things.
- 1:38:10Speaker 7: His ability to block allows their whole early down sequencing
- 1:38:14Speaker 7: to work. Like the fact that they can run and
- 1:38:16Speaker 7: play action pass out of the same formations is because
- 1:38:20Speaker 7: they have receivers that can block. So if you take
- 1:38:22Speaker 7: him off the field, like Kyle Williams is not gonna
- 1:38:24Speaker 7: he's not going to be digging out the nickel Paul.
- 1:38:28Speaker 7: So you know, I know it's like boring and like.
- 1:38:34Speaker 5: For a love of the game routes, but he ain't
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: gonna be digging out the nickel.
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: Bro Hey, heaven, are you looking for a winning shopping strategy?

- 1:39:50Speaker 2: on hold from the Philippines.
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: What's up?
- 1:39:52Speaker 5: John's yep?
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you're like in a cave in the Philippines. Where
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: are you?
- 1:40:00Speaker 18: Pretty much?
- 1:40:02Speaker 2: Are you gonna have to do something? Take us off
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: speaker or go outside from the cave?
- 1:40:09Speaker 14: Okay?
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: Get well, yeah, I don't know what's going on over there, John, Okay, okay,
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: let's go.
- 1:40:21Speaker 18: Just one thing, Like, how refreshing was seeing this offense
- 1:40:26Speaker 18: set up some plays last week?
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: How refreshing was it? Very was very refreshing.
- 1:40:32Speaker 5: I think I needed a shower?
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: He did. He's still very refreshing, you tell us, But
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: were you refreshed?
- 1:40:40Speaker 18: Yeah, that was refreshing. But my question is I tuned
- 1:40:44Speaker 18: in a little late, So stop me if you've already
- 1:40:47Speaker 18: answered this. But the past couple of years, we've been
- 1:40:51Speaker 18: really bad against running quarterbacks, I guess all quarterbacks.
- 1:40:55Speaker 15: For that matter.
- 1:40:56Speaker 18: But like you, guys are critical third downs, Like, last
- 1:41:00Speaker 18: thing I want to see is a close game, Josh Allen,
- 1:41:03Speaker 18: you know, starts running on third downs. Like, do you
- 1:41:07Speaker 18: think we have someone that can, like we could put
- 1:41:09Speaker 18: as a spy. We've gone like lighter at lighter at linebacker.
- 1:41:15Speaker 18: There's someone that can keep pace with Josh Allen in
- 1:41:19Speaker 18: that aspect?
- 1:41:20Speaker 7: Well, I mean my question, I mean it's it's a
- 1:41:23Speaker 7: good question, but like everybody's trying to keep MVP of
- 1:41:27Speaker 7: the league.
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: But I do think there's guys that can keep pace
- 1:41:29Speaker 5: for them. But can you tackle them?
- 1:41:30Speaker 14: Right?
- 1:41:31Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: I mean there's not a lot of depth on the
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: Patriots defense, so there's not a lot to like tack too.
- 1:41:36Speaker 3: But that's why I highlight Douger. Maybe Dougger has to
- 1:41:39Speaker 3: fill in for Hawkins though and play safety or Marty Mapu.
- 1:41:41Speaker 3: I just I think he's you know, got some size,
- 1:41:43Speaker 3: he moves pretty well, and we'll see what happens.
- 1:41:45Speaker 5: Both those guys can run with Josh Allen. I think
- 1:41:48Speaker 5: Robert Splaine can probably run, you know with Can they
- 1:41:50Speaker 5: get him on the ground. Nope, I'm not saying that
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: because no, no disrespect to the players that we just mentioned.
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: Josh Allen is the best player in football.
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: Yeah, that's why.
- 1:42:02Speaker 7: They had a third down against the Saints where they
- 1:42:05Speaker 7: Saints like we're sending pressure, could him mount and on
- 1:42:08Speaker 7: third down? And he finally just said, like it, I'm
- 1:42:11Speaker 7: just gonna run. And he's just like stiff arming guys
- 1:42:16Speaker 7: and he was just like, I'm just gonna take off.
- 1:42:19Speaker 7: I mean, I don't I don't know what you do
- 1:42:21Speaker 7: about that.
- 1:42:22Speaker 5: And it's close late is when you get those runs. Yeah,
- 1:42:26Speaker 5: he put the game away.
- 1:42:28Speaker 7: Yeah I'm gonna And then he'd rent a naked and
- 1:42:30Speaker 7: just really put the game away and like it was
- 1:42:32Speaker 7: just like all right, I don't know, but you gotta
- 1:42:35Speaker 7: put him in the trash compactor. Right, Like when they
- 1:42:37Speaker 7: rush the quarterback, you don't want to be flying up
- 1:42:40Speaker 7: the field. You don't want to be out of gaps
- 1:42:42Speaker 7: because if you open a gap up he's just gonna
- 1:42:44Speaker 7: take it, so you gotta put it collapse the pocket.
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: Yeah, Matt Rochester, New York. As the unofficial quarterway point
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: of the season. If the players below exceeded, met or
- 1:42:54Speaker 2: failed to meet whatever expectations you had for them going
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: to the season.
- 1:42:59Speaker 5: Will Campbell exceeded exceeded.
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: I'd say he met my expectations because I had high expectations.
- 1:43:06Speaker 5: I did too, that's fair.
- 1:43:07Speaker 2: Garrett Bradbury exceeded, exceeded, Okay, Milton Williams, I know what
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: Evan thinks.
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: Exceeded.
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Carlton Davis.
- 1:43:19Speaker 5: That's the last one, last underwhelming.
- 1:43:24Speaker 1: I don't know whatever their sceeded, meta, failed.
- 1:43:27Speaker 2: Failed, failed, so far, it's a stretch my three options
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: for Carlton Davis.
- 1:43:34Speaker 7: Hear what you guys are saying, but failed seems.
- 1:43:37Speaker 5: Failed is definitely a harsh word.
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: But that was the option.
- 1:43:41Speaker 5: The option was exceeded.
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: Below expectations, below expectations. We just go with blow expectations
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: because I don't.
- 1:43:47Speaker 5: Think he's been a failure a point. I don't think
- 1:43:49Speaker 5: he's been a failure, but I don't think he's met expectations.
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: Been banged up a lot, he missed a lot of practice.
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: It's penalty.
- 1:43:55Speaker 7: The penalties are not great.
- 1:43:56Speaker 5: Christian Barmore, Oh, I can say I'm gonna say exceeded
- 1:44:00Speaker 5: because I I still had some questions.
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: I'd say exceeded too.
- 1:44:04Speaker 5: He's been and you know his availability.
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: There's ah Met Matt.
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: I didn't have Miami.
- 1:44:14Speaker 2: I would have said exceeded, but that was you know, yeah,
- 1:44:17Speaker 2: just he hasn't stabbed him yet.
- 1:44:19Speaker 3: No, no, no disrespect to Booty, but I see him
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: as kind of one of the guys that you're trying
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: to upgrade, you know, down the line. That's a position
- 1:44:26Speaker 3: where you need a dynamic player who's going to make
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: it hard. He's turned into like a very gritty, like
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: a possession receiver, plays on the outside receiver.
- 1:44:38Speaker 5: Even that catch the other day, it's like he you know,
- 1:44:41Speaker 5: the he's on the ground. It was a little underthrown.
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: Do you see how he caught it? Like usually when
- 1:44:47Speaker 5: you're on the ground, you're like scooping the ball off
- 1:44:49Speaker 5: the turf. He that was a handsketch out in front
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: of him about six inches off the ground. That was
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: a good hands catch.
- 1:44:55Speaker 3: It almost makes me wonder if he's miscast a little bit,
- 1:44:57Speaker 3: and like, you know, is he does he have the
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: dynamic athleticism to play on the outside and really do
- 1:45:02Speaker 3: what they truly need him to do, or would he
- 1:45:04Speaker 3: be better served as a guy who can catch the
- 1:45:06Speaker 3: ball and move the chains like a debo.
- 1:45:08Speaker 5: Debo power power what do you call power slots? Power slot?
- 1:45:12Speaker 7: Yeah, he was. He was a little bit more of that,
- 1:45:14Speaker 7: and he has.
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: The name for every power slot.
- 1:45:18Speaker 7: Slot is the best power slot in the game.
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: Doug Doug Boone, IOWA says, listening to Evan talk about
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: football is like reading the King James Bible.
- 1:45:28Speaker 7: I don't know what that means.
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: I don't read the complicated. I was going to say,
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: is that it's just the basic. I think they're all
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: the Bible, the standards. I don't know.
- 1:45:39Speaker 5: I read a different book, so I'm not sure. I
- 1:45:41Speaker 5: think you read the first plating thing in the world.
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: And other people would say reading the Bible is kind
- 1:45:47Speaker 5: of boring.
- 1:45:48Speaker 2: Jacket and abba, uh, I thought it was Wednesday, disregardless. Man, No,
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: we'll do this email today. For each of the bills below,
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: each member of the p U staff must declare whether
- 1:45:58Speaker 2: he's a stutter or a stiff. No no in the middle, stutter,
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: stiff Josh Allen, Studd, James Cook, Stud Dalton Kincaid.
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: Really don't know. I don't think he's the first round.
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: Joey Bosa.
- 1:46:17Speaker 7: I would say he's having a good start to the year.
- 1:46:20Speaker 5: I don't know. I'd say Stud, but he's always injured
- 1:46:23Speaker 5: and White Stiff Yeah, Washed.
- 1:46:30Speaker 7: Never does it for me.
- 1:46:32Speaker 5: Was a really good player. Yeah, around with Buffalo and
- 1:46:36Speaker 5: then I think he did he tear his a c
- 1:46:38Speaker 5: l oh, yeah, something like that. Yeah, he was a
- 1:46:42Speaker 5: good player, but I don't think he is any very
- 1:46:44Speaker 5: good player. Howard It was a good player, really not anymore.
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: Darius from Louis Louisville. I also believe we can beat
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: the Bills. I'm not just riding high off our win.
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: I really believe it. If we can limit turnovers a
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: force maybe one or two, we have a good chance.
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: We've looked like a real NFL team for three weeks now,
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: minus the five turnovers against the Steelers.
- 1:47:09Speaker 5: We look like it's we look to play Missus Lincoln.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: We look like a top fifteen to seventeen team.
- 1:47:14Speaker 5: I think that's probably fair. Sure like that with the
- 1:47:18Speaker 5: last part fIF Yeah, they're right in the pack right low. Yeah,
- 1:47:21Speaker 5: that might be low. Yeah, fifteen to seventeen.
- 1:47:24Speaker 7: Especially at the quarterbacks good.
- 1:47:27Speaker 5: And that was my caveat all off season.
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: I just I'm so interested to see how the defense
- 1:47:32Speaker 3: stacks up against Josh Allen Lamar, you know, even Baker
- 1:47:36Speaker 3: like the really good quarterbacks.
- 1:47:37Speaker 5: Do you think Lamar is going to play? When they
- 1:47:39Speaker 5: play the.
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: Are they rest the play?
- 1:47:43Speaker 5: He's already heard Don and Philly.
- 1:47:46Speaker 2: I'd like to impersonate Evan recapping a play. I love
- 1:47:49Speaker 2: his insight. Evan impersonation to set the scene. The Patriots
- 1:47:53Speaker 2: are in fifty four personnel, five running backs, four.
- 1:47:55Speaker 5: Tight ends, doesn't even exist.
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: Y william was in.
- 1:47:58Speaker 2: Motion and effectively acts this is the backside, Sniffer.
- 1:48:02Speaker 7: It's not the right thing. No, this is just all wrong.
- 1:48:04Speaker 5: You didn't like the backside before I move on.
- 1:48:07Speaker 2: I love how much motion McDaniel's incorporated in this offense.
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: The Panthers defense is in cover three Cloud one. Strake
- 1:48:16Speaker 2: notices he has no offensive lineman on the field. He
- 1:48:18Speaker 2: hits Williams for an explosive twenty yard play, a genius
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: concept only McDaniels could scheme up. And the Patriots have
- 1:48:27Speaker 2: one of the highest explosive play rates in the NFL,
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: but ranked thirty first in yards and crew on those plays.
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: I know what your network would say about that, barth
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: bar You think that was a good impersonation?
- 1:48:39Speaker 5: No, because there's all like the backside sniffer. That's not
- 1:48:43Speaker 5: even what the sniffer does.
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: It makes a bbl thing. It was kind of a
- 1:48:48Speaker 1: funny term though, Brazilian butt lift.
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:48:50Speaker 7: I was gonna say literally, but I I will digress.
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: I'll give it to him.
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: Good job, Tyler writes in Fred, you and Paul are
- 1:49:02Speaker 2: the best, like grandpa or dad some of us never had.
- 1:49:06Speaker 2: I just want to ask, if the offensive line goes
- 1:49:08Speaker 2: as well as it has, should we keep some wide
- 1:49:11Speaker 2: receivers or should we do what we did this year
- 1:49:14Speaker 2: and get some veterans and maybe get rid of some
- 1:49:16Speaker 2: dead weight and hopefully start hitting in the draft and
- 1:49:19Speaker 2: free agents. Hopefully Kyle Williams starts showing something that way
- 1:49:24Speaker 2: a vet William's booty, and I don't know what anyway,
- 1:49:28Speaker 2: I'm not sure what his question is.
- 1:49:30Speaker 5: They need?
- 1:49:31Speaker 2: So if the offensive line is fine, we just focus
- 1:49:34Speaker 2: on wide receivers. Is that is that what you think
- 1:49:36Speaker 2: you're going.
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: I mean, I think they're going to continue to need
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: offensive linemen. It's not going to be fine forever. I
- 1:49:42Speaker 5: mean brad Berry and Owen who and Moses are closer
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: to the end in the beginning yep.
- 1:49:50Speaker 7: Right, Bradberry has been good, and I think that's not
- 1:49:53Speaker 7: big for them. I'm not saying that you have been
- 1:49:56Speaker 7: as advertised, but thirty four years old, like they're going
- 1:49:59Speaker 7: to need a right tackle. Uh, we still don't. I
- 1:50:02Speaker 7: think I fully know that Will Campbell is going to
- 1:50:04Speaker 7: be good. I don't know if Jared Wilson's going to be.
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: Even if he's probably going to take over for Bradbury,
- 1:50:09Speaker 5: you're gonna need another center card.
- 1:50:12Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean this point out anything when you's got
- 1:50:15Speaker 3: like the biggest cap hit next year, big.
- 1:50:17Speaker 5: Money closer because he's not closer to the end age
- 1:50:21Speaker 5: wise like Moses, but.
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: He might be asked to take a haircut this austome.
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:50:25Speaker 7: I just think the good news is is that if
- 1:50:28Speaker 7: Will Campbell continues on this trajectory, like left tackle is
- 1:50:31Speaker 7: the hardest one to get, you don't.
- 1:50:33Speaker 5: Necessarily if they don't have to go back in the
- 1:50:35Speaker 5: left tackle market. Yeah, that's what you need to waste
- 1:50:38Speaker 5: a high draft wasting quotes on a high draft right, So.
- 1:50:42Speaker 7: Like if they need to, if they bump Wilson into center,
- 1:50:44Speaker 7: and they don't need to draft the left guard in
- 1:50:46Speaker 7: the first.
- 1:50:47Speaker 5: Round, you can get on the fourth.
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: You know.
- 1:50:50Speaker 7: The benefit of you know, it's been good so far
- 1:50:52Speaker 7: from my with the offensive line is it looks like
- 1:50:55Speaker 7: they're coaching guys up again on the offensive line where
- 1:50:57Speaker 7: you're seeing week to week improve, You're seeing Ben Brown
- 1:51:01Speaker 7: get in there, and it really doesn't miss a beat
- 1:51:04Speaker 7: with the backup guard in there instead of the starter.
- 1:51:06Speaker 7: Like that was the things that they were doing in
- 1:51:08Speaker 7: the heyday when Scarneckia was here, and they were just
- 1:51:11Speaker 7: able to pump out these guys.
- 1:51:12Speaker 3: They were I was watching some of the game last
- 1:51:14Speaker 3: night and they were just tearing apart Miami's offensive line.
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: Cole Strength by the way, I getting in there with.
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: The like at this point four spots, Like they were
- 1:51:24Speaker 5: talking about it last night and it was almost comical. Yeah,
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: with how how many linemen did they and then you know, and.
- 1:51:29Speaker 3: So you know, maybe this is unfair to them because
- 1:51:32Speaker 3: they are down into debt, but they were just pointing
- 1:51:34Speaker 3: out the things that we used to point out with
- 1:51:35Speaker 3: the Patriots whorts, like they're not in sync they're missing guys.
- 1:51:39Speaker 3: You know, when you just like it goes back to
- 1:51:41Speaker 3: that point I'm in earlier, when you have two seasons
- 1:51:43Speaker 3: of four wins, you really get up to speed on
- 1:51:46Speaker 3: the subtleties of the badness that get you beat and
- 1:51:49Speaker 3: the you know, the blown blocks and the you know,
- 1:51:51Speaker 3: lack of spacing and all those different details that are
- 1:51:53Speaker 3: so critical.
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: I don't always appreciate it.
- 1:51:55Speaker 5: When Evan and I argued about this earlier off. There
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: a game when the Dolphins probably should have won by
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: four touchdowns based on how badly the Jets played because
- 1:52:06Speaker 5: of those problems. They they couldn't convert a third down
- 1:52:09Speaker 5: in the second half, they took over. I mean, they
- 1:52:11Speaker 5: get a fumble recovery off the opening kickoff of the
- 1:52:14Speaker 5: second half, and they just can't score any points. And
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: you look at the end of the game and you're like,
- 1:52:19Speaker 5: how do we get involved in a one possession game?
- 1:52:21Speaker 5: The Jets have thirteen penalties, turned it over three times
- 1:52:25Speaker 5: to none, and they're still in the game and they
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: I mean, if not for a bogus passing appearance calling
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: Garrett Wilson in the end zone, I don't understand how
- 1:52:33Speaker 5: that's If that's interference. I don't know what the back
- 1:52:36Speaker 5: shoulder played the Diggs is. It's the same thing you like,
- 1:52:40Speaker 5: they run and they put the ram out like they
- 1:52:42Speaker 5: didn't knock him over like Diggs, I don't think he
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: was just out and he makes an unbelievable catch up.
- 1:52:48Speaker 5: For some reason, Chris Powler just decided I'm going to
- 1:52:50Speaker 5: ignore that the referee called it a touchdown on the field,
- 1:52:53Speaker 5: went on the on the microphone after and said the
- 1:52:56Speaker 5: ruling on the field was touchdown. However offensive passing affence.
- 1:53:00Speaker 5: It's on number five like he can continues to say,
- 1:53:03Speaker 5: like they that that they ruled it an incomplete past.
- 1:53:06Speaker 5: They didn't. It was a touchdown.
- 1:53:08Speaker 7: That touchdown that he did catch that counted was Unbelievab's
- 1:53:12Speaker 7: really good.
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: He's a receiver. I know he signed a big deal,
- 1:53:14Speaker 5: but he's a received What that would take the temperature on.
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: You see the false star on Teddy K yesterday that
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: they call a.
- 1:53:22Speaker 7: Call and I know this is big on on Paul shows.
- 1:53:25Speaker 7: I know Joe Murray, Jim Murray, sorry other Mary is
- 1:53:28Speaker 7: big on this, but I I agree with him. Some
- 1:53:30Speaker 7: of these ticky tack calls that are just bogging down
- 1:53:33Speaker 7: the game, like these little like alignment issues and like
- 1:53:36Speaker 7: the head bob for teddy.
- 1:53:38Speaker 1: K last every center does that.
- 1:53:41Speaker 5: I don't.
- 1:53:41Speaker 7: We're getting way too technical with some of these.
- 1:53:43Speaker 5: They cracked down on the head bob like if it's
- 1:53:46Speaker 5: like sort of a you know, a sudden movement, you know,
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: like it's really and they brought the rules analyst on
- 1:53:53Speaker 5: and like I thought, no, that's not what that's not
- 1:53:56Speaker 5: what they were talking about with these sudden movements. That
- 1:53:58Speaker 5: was just a normal every day act. Like it's it's
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: they're impacting games.
- 1:54:04Speaker 1: All right, I'm calling it a show. I got things
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: to do.
- 1:54:07Speaker 2: We got another shot at it tomorrow catch twenty two
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: am Eastern time.
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: We'll talk some fall.
- 1:54:14Speaker 1: What's part take on this.
- 1:54:15Speaker 2: Is he he's in good, good spirits.
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: He's in good spirit. I haven't talked to him since Sundays. Okay,
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: all right, all right about it.
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: So we'll be back at noon.
- 1:54:25Speaker 2: We've got Verabel press conference tomorrow, lots to do tomorrow.
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: We'll talk to you then. Hey, this is Deuce. Thanks
