- 0:01Speaker 1: We're back. He's back and it's The Morning Show with
- 0:07Speaker 1: Preston Scott Third Hour, Wednesday, February twenty sixth, Show fifty
- 0:10Speaker 1: three to twenty four and I am thrilled to have
- 0:13Speaker 1: back with us on the program. A Zeus Rodriguez, long
- 0:16Speaker 1: time now retired US Border Patrol agent. Hello, my friend
- 0:21Speaker 1: in Arizona.
- 0:22Speaker 2: How are you, good morning, sir? How you doing I'm
- 0:24Speaker 2: doing well in yourself, I'm doing terrific.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I've I've been. It's one of the big stories today
- 0:32Speaker 1: that on Saturday, when a year ago there was an
- 0:37Speaker 1: average of six thousand encounters with illegals trying to break
- 0:42Speaker 1: into this country on our southern border, six thousand a
- 0:45Speaker 1: day on average, that were two hundred on Saturday. Give
- 0:51Speaker 1: us some perspective on that dramatic decline.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Isn't that pretty amazing? I mean, that's us. That shows
- 0:58Speaker 2: you what the previous administration was allowing to happen out there,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and it really, I mean pressing if you think about it, it
- 1:04Speaker 2: really was not them breaking in. They were just walking
- 1:06Speaker 2: in because of the you know, the biders are in
- 1:09Speaker 2: biting them in and my orcas too, so you know,
- 1:11Speaker 2: the agents were overwhelmed. With all of that, all that
- 1:16Speaker 2: activity out there, and couldn't do their enforcement job like
- 1:18Speaker 2: they're supposed to. They were basically becoming you know, uber drivers,
- 1:23Speaker 2: lyft drivers, and babysitters for for all these all these
- 1:26Speaker 2: aliens that were coming in.
- 1:27Speaker 1: I'm curious from your chair, as someone that's now retired,
- 1:33Speaker 1: should May Orcus among others be held liable criminally responsible
- 1:38Speaker 1: for what they allowed to happen for four years.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Well, there's a lot of I mean, they should bring
- 1:43Speaker 2: him in there and ask start asking them questions. But
- 1:46Speaker 2: i mean, look, didn't didn't Biden give them the give
- 1:49Speaker 2: them the blessing, and so they couldn't be nothing could
- 1:51Speaker 2: happen to them. I mean, they knew what was going on.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I mean, it was obviously that they were allowing all
- 1:57Speaker 2: this to happen down there in that in the border,
- 2:00Speaker 2: you know. And then i mean, I'll tell you right now, President,
- 2:03Speaker 2: with the numbers that the agents are seeing now, you know,
- 2:06Speaker 2: I mean it's night and day. But what they're starting,
- 2:09Speaker 2: what they're starting to to after him quite a bit
- 2:11Speaker 2: now is narcotics. So what does that tell you? Basically
- 2:15Speaker 2: says that you really never never have an will never
- 2:18Speaker 2: have an idea, how much are narcotics made it in
- 2:22Speaker 2: while the agents were dealing with all of these illegal
- 2:24Speaker 2: aliens that they were having the babysit out there, they
- 2:28Speaker 2: weren't able to work it. There was nobody out there.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Would it be over simplification to say that that because
- 2:34Speaker 1: we now have actual enforcement going on, that your peers
- 2:39Speaker 1: and colleagues can do their job.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yep, Oh yeah. You can see the Even the the
- 2:47Speaker 2: morning after the election, you could see the difference in
- 2:50Speaker 2: what their attitudes were and they were all chomping at
- 2:53Speaker 2: the bid waiting for him to come into office so
- 2:55Speaker 2: they could get back to what they're supposed to be doing.
- 2:58Speaker 2: You know, I understand they all understand that there is
- 3:00Speaker 2: a humanitarian side of it, yes, but the big portion
- 3:04Speaker 2: of the enforcement side now they can do their job. Now,
- 3:06Speaker 2: they can do what they're supposed to do. And the
- 3:08Speaker 2: people that the upper hand you know, are going to
- 3:10Speaker 2: end up going back to their home country eventually, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 2: but instead of just kicking them out the door and saying, hey,
- 3:15Speaker 2: have a good life, we'll see you.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I shared another little fact around that number, that two
- 3:21Speaker 1: hundred number AESEUS, and that is that seventy five percent
- 3:25Speaker 1: of Democrats believe that it was just an accident. All
- 3:29Speaker 1: these people for four years getting into the country. It
- 3:31Speaker 1: was not deliberate, It wasn't intentional. I think you know
- 3:35Speaker 1: me well enough to know my position on this has
- 3:37Speaker 1: been if it's not intentional, what is it. I refuse
- 3:40Speaker 1: to believe that there is an aptitude at that level.
- 3:44Speaker 1: So what do you think.
- 3:47Speaker 2: It was intentional? Ruston? I mean, even the ass were
- 3:51Speaker 2: that I spoke to, and you know, in a couple
- 3:54Speaker 2: of different sectors, were all they were just their hands
- 3:57Speaker 2: were tied, they were upset, and they all it was.
- 4:00Speaker 2: It was intentional from the administration that you know. And
- 4:04Speaker 2: then as the fact that they you know, in some
- 4:07Speaker 2: sectors they were cutting the bob wire because they were
- 4:10Speaker 2: totally cut the bob wire and let's let the aliens in.
- 4:12Speaker 2: I mean, how much more do you need? And then
- 4:15Speaker 2: you have you have the incident where where you know,
- 4:19Speaker 2: the agents and a horseback were supposedly whipping the Haitians,
- 4:22Speaker 2: but it really wasn't that. So you know, they was intentional,
- 4:26Speaker 2: but the agents knew that this administration or the previous
- 4:29Speaker 2: one was not going to have their back, and then
- 4:32Speaker 2: we're not going to support them in any way, shape
- 4:34Speaker 2: or form.
- 4:35Speaker 1: We're seeing in every agency where we are getting sweeping changes,
- 4:40Speaker 1: which is basically all of them embedded resistance people that
- 4:45Speaker 1: are not going to do what Trump or the new
- 4:48Speaker 1: leadership in this case Christy Nome, head of Homeland Security,
- 4:52Speaker 1: once done. Is that prevalent is I mean, clearly there's
- 4:56Speaker 1: going to be some of that in DHS. I've got
- 5:00Speaker 1: to believe in ICE under Tom Homan now. But how
- 5:04Speaker 1: prevalent is it.
- 5:06Speaker 2: I don't think it's prevalent at all present, because the
- 5:09Speaker 2: work truages that I know and you know, remember they
- 5:12Speaker 2: take that, oh they are, they're chomping at the bit.
- 5:17Speaker 2: They want to get to work, and they have been
- 5:18Speaker 2: getting to work, and so you know, they know that
- 5:21Speaker 2: the that the rains have been taken off of them
- 5:23Speaker 2: by by the President and the administration. So that helps
- 5:27Speaker 2: them to go out there and start doing their job
- 5:28Speaker 2: and doing what they're supposed to be doing out there.
- 5:30Speaker 2: So you don't I mean, I don't see it and
- 5:33Speaker 2: I don't hear, and they're in conversations with him that
- 5:35Speaker 2: they're you know that they're upset with some of the
- 5:38Speaker 2: changes that are happening. They know that they are going
- 5:40Speaker 2: to be changed, that they're not going to agree with
- 5:42Speaker 2: with everything right, But by and large, the majority of
- 5:46Speaker 2: what they're allowed to do is they're all looking for
- 5:48Speaker 2: it and they're all happy that they're able to do it.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Again, give us some perspective on how this difference shows
- 5:55Speaker 1: up in actual day to day work that an agent
- 5:59Speaker 1: does on the border. For example, You've talked about it
- 6:03Speaker 1: a little bit in the first segment, but when you're
- 6:06Speaker 1: facing six thousand versus two hundred, now with two hundred
- 6:11Speaker 1: that are coming at the various checkpoints, what are agents
- 6:15Speaker 1: now able to do properly that they were prevented to
- 6:19Speaker 1: do if for no other reason the sheer numbers.
- 6:22Speaker 2: You see them fan out further into the into the
- 6:25Speaker 2: desert now, as before they couldn't go out and work
- 6:29Speaker 2: along the border area looking for foot signed footprints in
- 6:33Speaker 2: the soil, you know, or those kind of tracks that
- 6:37Speaker 2: people would leave behind as they were a crossing the border.
- 6:40Speaker 2: So now they're able to fan out and check out
- 6:43Speaker 2: a lot of these areas that they hadn't been able
- 6:45Speaker 2: to touch in all these these past number of years,
- 6:49Speaker 2: and so now that's what they're encountering. That's why they're
- 6:52Speaker 2: encountering those those backpackers with narcotics that they're carrying. So
- 6:56Speaker 2: they're starting to knock that down because they're starting to
- 7:00Speaker 2: it out there. And as before they were, they were
- 7:02Speaker 2: tasked with going down, picking up these large groups and
- 7:05Speaker 2: having to shove them back to the stations where they
- 7:07Speaker 2: were being processed, so they were not able to go
- 7:10Speaker 2: out and work that traffic.
- 7:12Speaker 1: The president's been in office just over a month. How
- 7:16Speaker 1: tangible are the differences with regard to technology, with regard
- 7:20Speaker 1: to building, enhancing the wall, expanding the wall, other things
- 7:26Speaker 1: that are being done. I know that there's you know,
- 7:29Speaker 1: they've deputized members of the I think it's the Texas
- 7:32Speaker 1: National Guard or something like that. I mean, they're doing
- 7:34Speaker 1: things to expand the footprint of agents on the border.
- 7:39Speaker 1: What are you hearing as far as what literally is
- 7:42Speaker 1: being done.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Well, right now the military is showing up and and
- 7:46Speaker 2: augmenting what the what the agents are out there to do.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So that's that's that's a plus for them because they
- 7:51Speaker 2: bring some technology with them, but they're waiting for money
- 7:55Speaker 2: to drop so they can start closing the gaps and
- 7:58Speaker 2: maybe also bring in some of the newer technology that's
- 8:01Speaker 2: out there that they can use for it. But in
- 8:03Speaker 2: the meantime, you know, the focus is on them is
- 8:06Speaker 2: just to get out to the field and start working
- 8:08Speaker 2: the traffic that's out there.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Are they working now things that they've been wanting to work.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Are they sort of starting from scratch?
- 8:16Speaker 2: No, they I mean they have a good idea. It's
- 8:18Speaker 2: they have to go back out their present and kind
- 8:21Speaker 2: of look at the lay of the land again and
- 8:23Speaker 2: see if these groups are crossing in some of these
- 8:26Speaker 2: areas or if they've moved to different areas and as,
- 8:29Speaker 2: and as the agents start to interdict some of that
- 8:33Speaker 2: traffic in those traditional areas that they crossed, and these
- 8:36Speaker 2: cartels will move these groups or move the backpackers to
- 8:39Speaker 2: different areas. So it's going to be them just kind
- 8:42Speaker 2: of re equating them themselves with where the traffic was
- 8:45Speaker 2: at and it is just still there or did it
- 8:47Speaker 2: move and where did it move to? You know, let's
- 8:49Speaker 2: go find it.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Hey zeus I shared the story with you. Press release
- 8:53Speaker 1: from the Department of Justice, a Customs and Border Patrol
- 8:58Speaker 1: agent arrested Nail Passo on criminal charges involved with smuggling
- 9:04Speaker 1: undocumented non citizens for financial gain and drug trafficking when
- 9:09Speaker 1: these types of charges and again innocent until proven guilty.
- 9:12Speaker 1: But I think we all know that, you know, we're
- 9:15Speaker 1: likely not going to see charges unless there's a case
- 9:19Speaker 1: to be made. But within the agency, when stuff like
- 9:22Speaker 1: this happens, what's the what's the reaction of rank and
- 9:25Speaker 1: file agents.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Upset because you have soiled your the the badge that
- 9:32Speaker 2: you wear and the pats on your uniform that you wear,
- 9:36Speaker 2: and even who you represent as a as an employee.
- 9:39Speaker 2: So it it sets a lot of agents because you know, this,
- 9:43Speaker 2: this kind of thing erodes that confidence in people, right,
- 9:46Speaker 2: so you you know, people think, well, they're all the same, right,
- 9:48Speaker 2: look we look at him, he's got you know, he
- 9:49Speaker 2: got arrested and is being charged with this. How many
- 9:52Speaker 2: of them are are not dirty? Or look at them
- 9:54Speaker 2: with that? With that, I wondering, I wonder if they're
- 9:57Speaker 2: on the take. So, you know, agents get upset. I mean,
- 10:01Speaker 2: that's that's that's probably the biggest thing. And and they
- 10:04Speaker 2: just you know, kind of move away from that from
- 10:06Speaker 2: that person because of the issues that they're that they're
- 10:09Speaker 2: involved in.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Cartels are using the same tactic that they use in
- 10:13Speaker 1: Mexico with the Mexican government, right, they're saying, hey, we
- 10:16Speaker 1: we we we can make you a little richer.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Oh in plus, and there's so many ways that they
- 10:21Speaker 2: can that they can entice people to to help them,
- 10:26Speaker 2: so to speak, in those situations. I remember one particular
- 10:31Speaker 2: where there were young agents and I say young in
- 10:34Speaker 2: age and and and uh and young in the agency,
- 10:38Speaker 2: and this particular watering hole they would go to. These
- 10:43Speaker 2: girls would show up and lo and behold. We kept
- 10:48Speaker 2: you know, we mentioned to them, you might want to
- 10:49Speaker 2: stay away from them. And these guys are single, and
- 10:51Speaker 2: so these girls would would talk to him and and
- 10:54Speaker 2: cozy up to him, and we kept telling them, you know,
- 10:56Speaker 2: you might want to think twice about staying away from
- 10:59Speaker 2: these particular and they Jules and uh. You know. Shortly
- 11:02Speaker 2: thereafter there was some there was something that that was
- 11:05Speaker 2: said and it started to come out that they were
- 11:07Speaker 2: that they were big working for the cartel, and the
- 11:09Speaker 2: cartel sent them in there because the cartel found out
- 11:12Speaker 2: that these agents young an agency, young in age, you know,
- 11:16Speaker 2: and probably not making a whole lot of money. We're
- 11:19Speaker 2: at this watering hole, so why not go in there
- 11:21Speaker 2: and see if we can get them the slip to
- 11:23Speaker 2: our sides.
- 11:24Speaker 1: We're now seeing. We talked earlier in the week about
- 11:27Speaker 1: the Mexican government that the president herself proposing changes to
- 11:33Speaker 1: their constitution to actually protect the cartels. Your reaction to that.
- 11:40Speaker 2: It makes you wonder. When I read the article too,
- 11:43Speaker 2: it made me wonder. It's like, well, why are you
- 11:45Speaker 2: protecting them? What? What? What do they have on on
- 11:49Speaker 2: on the Mexican government officials? What kind of you know, uh,
- 11:52Speaker 2: info do they have on them? You know, are there
- 11:55Speaker 2: their bribery involved? What's what's going on here? Are you
- 11:58Speaker 2: afraid of what they're going to? You know, like a
- 12:00Speaker 2: guy they got an a passle that's now in Costay.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Can't think of his name right now, but what what
- 12:04Speaker 2: kind of information does he have on people that he's
- 12:06Speaker 2: bribbed on the Mexican side. That's that's my big question.
- 12:09Speaker 2: You know, why why are they protecting them for what reason?
- 12:13Speaker 1: Would you support if Mexico does not cooperate or continue
- 12:18Speaker 1: to cooperate with this administration on stopping the problem at
- 12:22Speaker 1: the border and doing all it can do to stop
- 12:25Speaker 1: people from trafficking into our country, not just drugs, but humans.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Would you favor military action if Intel allows us to
- 12:35Speaker 1: know where cartel leadership is.
- 12:39Speaker 2: That's a slippery slow president, because now you got you know,
- 12:42Speaker 2: their question of sovereignty, right. I think that the military
- 12:46Speaker 2: being on the border with helping the agents out and
- 12:49Speaker 2: closing the gaps and doing doing what they're allowed to do,
- 12:53Speaker 2: and then bringing in some newer technology because there is
- 12:55Speaker 2: newer technology that would help the agency that will have
- 12:58Speaker 2: an effect. I also thing person right now that you
- 13:01Speaker 2: have in some Mexican militaries in the South Side and
- 13:04Speaker 2: on some areas a little a little thicker than others,
- 13:07Speaker 2: they're having an impact on the on the legal aliens
- 13:10Speaker 2: that are coming through narcotics. It's still coming through, but
- 13:14Speaker 2: I mean not in the aliens are not coming through
- 13:16Speaker 2: and the numbers that they were that they were before.
- 13:18Speaker 1: What if the cartails follow through on their threats of
- 13:21Speaker 1: using drones with explosives on our military and on our.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Agents, that's going to be a different, you know, change
- 13:28Speaker 2: the whole the whole story, right, And and that's that's
- 13:32Speaker 2: what I'm afraid of that, you know, and I kept
- 13:34Speaker 2: talking to some of the younger agents as as after
- 13:37Speaker 2: the election, was that they had to be ready because
- 13:40Speaker 2: a lot of these aliens that they were going to
- 13:42Speaker 2: encounter out there in the field. Were no longer going
- 13:44Speaker 2: to just raise their hands up to say I give up.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Some of them were going to end up wanting to
- 13:48Speaker 2: you know, to assault them in order to get away
- 13:50Speaker 2: because they knew that the results were they were going
- 13:52Speaker 2: to go back to the country we prosecuted. So you know,
- 13:55Speaker 2: I told you cannot you can't let your guard down.
- 13:57Speaker 2: You have to be on your toes, you know of
- 14:00Speaker 2: that particular situation. And so you know, the cartails that sat, wait,
- 14:05Speaker 2: are they going to you know, are they going to
- 14:07Speaker 2: get to the point where they're upset because they're losing profits?
- 14:09Speaker 2: And what are they going to do? You know out
- 14:12Speaker 2: there in the field, you know, either for the notary
- 14:14Speaker 2: or toward the agents out there.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Hey Zeus, always great to catch up with you. Thanks
- 14:19Speaker 1: for being part of the program and your willingness to
- 14:21Speaker 1: share your experience and the people you talk to still
- 14:24Speaker 1: at the border. And again, thank you for serving our country.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Thank you, sir blest and sebative teacher.
- 14:29Speaker 1: I appreciate it. Hey Zeus Rodriguez again talking to us
- 14:32Speaker 1: from Arizona. Yes, getting up that early to join us live.
- 14:39Speaker 1: He just randomly found us years ago on iHeartRadio called
- 14:44Speaker 1: in I think a couple of times during What's the Beef,
- 14:47Speaker 1: And when I found out what he was doing, what
- 14:51Speaker 1: he had done professionally, I said, send me an email.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Here.
- 14:56Speaker 1: He is guest contributor on the topic of our southern
- 15:02Speaker 1: border on The Morning Show with Preston Scott
