- 0:00Speaker 1: Out of the gates on Sporting State, it is Hutton
- 0:02Speaker 1: and Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet. Roll with us.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Glad you're with us as you roll out of bed
- 0:09Speaker 1: this morning on this Thursday edition. A lot to get to.
- 0:12Speaker 1: We've got the SEC's day in court, primary complaint, and much,
- 0:16Speaker 1: much more, plus our Hard Rock Lock of the week. Chad,
- 0:19Speaker 1: good morning. Hope things are well. Good morning, Hutton. Things
- 0:22Speaker 1: are going well. Hope they are with you too. Yeah, man. Yep, absolutely. Absolutely. Uh,
- 0:28Speaker 1: SEC's day in court, Lane Kiffin and LSU's day in
- 0:30Speaker 1: court as well. We'll see how things roll.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be an exciting day in the
- 0:36Speaker 2: legal profession, that's for sure. Tom Mars is someone I've
- 0:39Speaker 2: been following who's been all over this, who consistently has
- 0:43Speaker 2: said that there is no judge in America based on precedent,
- 0:47Speaker 2: and he was going back, I think, 40, 50 years
- 0:50Speaker 2: of court rulings in Louisiana. He said it would take
- 0:52Speaker 2: a judge to completely break precedent of not allowing an institution,
- 0:57Speaker 2: a voluntary member of a group or an institution, to
- 1:01Speaker 2: not allow that institution to levy their own penalties and enforce.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Their own rules. I've used the HOA.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Example before, and I think Tom Mars used that one
- 1:10Speaker 2: as well, that when you sign on to that, that
- 1:13Speaker 2: they have control of their rules and what they're doing.
- 1:16Speaker 2: And it just, it does not play out where LSU
- 1:19Speaker 2: is going to win this court case. Now you've got,
- 1:21Speaker 2: and I really get annoyed by this also, I hate
- 1:25Speaker 2: to constantly be annoyed, but there's things I see online
- 1:27Speaker 2: all the time that just annoy me. You've got attorney
- 1:29Speaker 2: generals just throwing in their hat in the ring to
- 1:32Speaker 2: get publicity. You've got the Georgia AG Chris Carr saying,
- 1:36Speaker 2: kick their ass out of the SEC if they do this.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Immediately.
- 1:40Speaker 2: He said not even before Saturday that LSU should be
- 1:44Speaker 2: an independent team, not in the SEC on Saturday morning
- 1:48Speaker 2: if they have rostered those players immediately. at midnight for
- 1:51Speaker 2: violating SEC rules.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Don't they have to wait three days or something like
- 1:55Speaker 1: that in order to play those players anyway? I was
- 1:58Speaker 1: listening to the play-by-play voice of the Clemson Tigers who
- 2:01Speaker 1: said it doesn't really matter for an LSU game either way.
- 2:04Speaker 1: They won't be facing them.
- 2:06Speaker 2: They have to give an official roster by midnight because
- 2:09Speaker 2: the SEC injury report rules now. So it's like midnight
- 2:13Speaker 2: Saturday morning, Friday night. They have to put in their
- 2:16Speaker 2: roster for the game or the season– I don't know
- 2:19Speaker 2: if it's for just this game or the entire season,
- 2:22Speaker 2: but they have to submit something Friday night.
- 2:24Speaker 1: I don't know about– there's like a ramp-up.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Period if you have a concussion.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I don't know the rule if they can play on
- 2:32Speaker 1: Saturday or not. I don't think he can play this
- 2:33Speaker 1: week anyway.
- 2:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, though, the judgment day comes when they
- 2:36Speaker 2: decide whether or not they're going to include them on
- 2:38Speaker 2: the roster or not. Tom Mars argued that he thinks
- 2:41Speaker 2: that eventually LSU is going to back out of this
- 2:43Speaker 2: thing maybe even before it happens, that the players' attorneys
- 2:47Speaker 2: have nothing.
- 2:48Speaker 1: In this case against the SEC.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Sporting State acquired the 79-page document that the SEC is filing. Clay,
- 2:56Speaker 2: I did not read all 79 pages. Sorry to disappoint everyone.
- 3:00Speaker 2: I read the summary of it. And essentially the summary
- 3:03Speaker 2: is what they've been arguing publicly through the media is
- 3:05Speaker 2: that there is no precedent for a conference or a
- 3:10Speaker 2: league to not be able to levy penalties. These are
- 3:14Speaker 2: penalties that have been illegal throughout time. In our conference,
- 3:18Speaker 2: in our sport, and it can't be allowed here too,
- 3:22Speaker 2: even if Louisiana says it, LSU is a voluntary member
- 3:27Speaker 2: of the SEC.
- 3:28Speaker 1: Chris Carr, the AG.
- 3:30Speaker 2: In Georgia, he's saying, look, you can't violate willfully a
- 3:36Speaker 2: league's rules to this extent and also receive the financial
- 3:40Speaker 2: benefit of being in that league. So the recourse is
- 3:43Speaker 2: to kick them out of the conference completely if they're
- 3:46Speaker 2: going to be this willfully blind to the rules that
- 3:50Speaker 2: are going on. Now you've got Attorney General Merrill of
- 3:53Speaker 2: Louisiana firing back saying you shouldn't ask an institution to
- 3:58Speaker 2: choose between the court and a conference.
- 4:01Speaker 1: So it's unfair to ask them to do this.
- 4:04Speaker 2: It feels to me, now, LSU is a perfect place
- 4:08Speaker 2: to where if you want to go and break some rules,
- 4:10Speaker 2: and get a little dirty and get a little bit messy,
- 4:12Speaker 2: it seems like they're very welcoming to you at LSU.
- 4:14Speaker 2: They have no problem with it as an institution. But
- 4:17Speaker 2: it does seem to me at least a little bit
- 4:19Speaker 2: like it's losing some steam from that side of it
- 4:22Speaker 2: with Lane Kiffin, with the university, with everything else going on. So,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I mean, we'll see today if this goes to court
- 4:30Speaker 2: and what the judge rules and all of that, Hutton.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But I just keep– this is three or four days
- 4:36Speaker 2: now I just keep waiting– for LSU to release a
- 4:39Speaker 2: statement that they're going to abide by SEC rules after
- 4:43Speaker 2: further guidance and they're going to walk away from this.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I just don't think the reward is worth the risk
- 4:48Speaker 2: at this point for the players we're talking about.
- 4:50Speaker 1: Well, Kiffin has said that they were awaiting further guidance.
- 4:53Speaker 1: He has said that. And I would say to the
- 4:55Speaker 1: Attorney General in Georgia, what rule has been broken to
- 4:58Speaker 1: this point?
- 5:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well, none to this point. Yeah, the issue is
- 5:05Speaker 2: they're saying we're trying to break the rule.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I know, but he's saying they kicked them out before Saturday,
- 5:11Speaker 1: and I'm thinking, for what exactly? What have they done?
- 5:14Speaker 2: Well, he's saying if they roster them Friday night, then
- 5:19Speaker 2: you immediately boot them out of the league at that point,
- 5:22Speaker 2: if they in fact do that. Look, the further guidance thing,
- 5:26Speaker 2: I think, from Kiffin is him saying, we're waiting for
- 5:27Speaker 2: further guidance from the court, that this lawsuit's going on,
- 5:30Speaker 2: we're going to let it play out. If the court
- 5:32Speaker 2: says they're eligible and the SEC can't penalize us, then
- 5:35Speaker 2: we're playing them.
- 5:36Speaker 1: That's right. Reading the tea leaves there and saying that's
- 5:39Speaker 1: what he's saying on that. Yes, that is what he's saying.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I would argue that even if the court says, okay,
- 5:46Speaker 2: we're going to deny this injunction right now, or we're
- 5:49Speaker 2: going to do this or that, we know that this
- 5:50Speaker 2: is not going to be the last stop in a
- 5:52Speaker 2: courtroom for this whole case. I would just simply ask,
- 5:56Speaker 2: and I would ask LSU fans this also, and some
- 5:59Speaker 2: have grown numb to this. Others continue to fight the
- 6:02Speaker 2: good fight on behalf of their Tigers, right? I would
- 6:05Speaker 2: ask the question, is the reward worth the risk at
- 6:08Speaker 2: this point? Even if the court in this one instance says, yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 2: the SEC can't do anything against you right now. Do
- 6:15Speaker 2: you want to continue going down this line? The risk
- 6:18Speaker 2: of everything involved for these players, right? Now, Will Wade
- 6:22Speaker 2: might be sitting there arguing, guys, I don't have a
- 6:25Speaker 2: basketball team if we're not allowed to do this.
- 6:29Speaker 1: LSU is going to have a football team.
- 6:31Speaker 2: Whether these three players who have been there at practice
- 6:33Speaker 2: and are practicing with the team right now that they're
- 6:36Speaker 2: trying to add are there or not, their football team
- 6:38Speaker 2: is going to be better with those three guys.
- 6:40Speaker 1: There's no doubt.
- 6:41Speaker 2: Is it going to be better to the extent that
- 6:43Speaker 2: you risk what you're risking right now to roster those players?
- 6:47Speaker 2: That's a question for LSU, right? Like if they want
- 6:50Speaker 2: to be this defined, I mean, this is sort of
- 6:52Speaker 2: the Al Davis of the SEC that we're looking at
- 6:55Speaker 2: right now with Lane Kiffin and LSU.
- 6:57Speaker 1: Do they want to continue going.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Down this road, risk burning every bridge, risk all the
- 7:01Speaker 2: possible ramifications in the future for these three players?
- 7:06Speaker 1: Well, I would say they will if the courts have
- 7:10Speaker 1: their back. Yes. And if not, then we'll see them
- 7:14Speaker 1: abide by the rules of the Southeastern Conference and, quite frankly,
- 7:18Speaker 1: the rules of the court. It'll be the rules of
- 7:22Speaker 1: the court, not the rules of the SEC that they're
- 7:23Speaker 1: going to abide by either way, either one way or
- 7:26Speaker 1: the other.
- 7:27Speaker 2: We should also say now, and I noticed this in
- 7:28Speaker 2: our mentions on a couple of clips, a lot of
- 7:31Speaker 2: people are getting hung up over, a lot of LSU
- 7:33Speaker 2: fans are saying, well, Alabama did it. Alabama did it.
- 7:36Speaker 2: They didn't forfeit their whole season. I argued Alabama shouldn't
- 7:40Speaker 2: have been eligible for the NCAA tournament, so I'm going
- 7:42Speaker 2: to stay consistent on this. If LSU plays these players
- 7:46Speaker 2: on Saturday or whenever, if they play them against some
- 7:48Speaker 2: lowly non-SEC team at some point, I think they should
- 7:53Speaker 2: not be eligible for the college football playoff. The college
- 7:55Speaker 2: football playoff is saying that. They're saying we will look
- 7:59Speaker 2: at the possibility of ruling them ineligible because this goes
- 8:02Speaker 2: against every rule of college football, right? I think the
- 8:05Speaker 2: NCAA Tournament Selection Committee should have done that to Nate Oates,
- 8:08Speaker 2: even though he got the injunction and then eventually he
- 8:11Speaker 2: lost the injunction and Charles Bediako couldn't play. The SEC
- 8:15Speaker 2: was consistent saying we're going to fight this. They even filed–
- 8:18Speaker 2: I know Brooks Carter was telling us in the chat–
- 8:21Speaker 2: The SEC and Greg Sankey filed some sort of court
- 8:23Speaker 2: order against Alabama when this was going on. They were
- 8:26Speaker 2: fighting it. They were just getting stopped by the court system.
- 8:31Speaker 2: It's not about three versus one. LSU fans are like, well,
- 8:34Speaker 2: was it okay for one to happen and three? None
- 8:36Speaker 2: of it's okay. Greg Sankey's never said that any of
- 8:39Speaker 2: it is okay. The NCAA is not saying we like
- 8:42Speaker 2: this or it's okay. It's a separate group of judges
- 8:47Speaker 2: all over the country that continue to overrule certain longstanding rules.
- 8:52Speaker 2: And then there's another lawsuit in another state or another court,
- 8:55Speaker 2: and then that one gets a temporary restraining order. Then
- 8:58Speaker 2: there's another injunction file. It's just this domino effect of
- 9:02Speaker 2: one court case after the next. And that's where we
- 9:04Speaker 2: are here, Hutton, on a Thursday, where we're awaiting news
- 9:07Speaker 2: of yet another court case where now the SEC gets
- 9:10Speaker 2: to be heard. in their court case against LSU and
- 9:13Speaker 2: what they're trying to do.
- 9:15Speaker 1: This is why I can't wait for Saturday. I can't
- 9:19Speaker 1: wait for tonight.
- 9:20Speaker 2: I mean, I'm sitting here looking at tonight's games and
- 9:22Speaker 2: I'm like, Hutton, I've never been more excited about UMass
- 9:25Speaker 2: and Rutgers than I am right now.
- 9:27Speaker 1: UMass and Rutgers at five o'clock central time on Big
- 9:30Speaker 1: Ten Network.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Um, I'm going to be at a volleyball game at
- 9:33Speaker 2: that time, but you damn well better know that I'll
- 9:35Speaker 2: be there for the second half in New Jersey to
- 9:38Speaker 2: watch UMass and Rutgers. I'll probably bet on it too.
- 9:41Speaker 1: I mean, who knows, you know, it's.
- 9:43Speaker 2: 29 and a half Rutgers favorite in that game. I
- 9:46Speaker 2: got a hard time believing Rutgers is going to beat
- 9:48Speaker 2: UMass by 30 points in this game from what I
- 9:50Speaker 2: know about Rutgers, but I'm just, I'm excited for football
- 9:54Speaker 2: to be kicked off and for us to not talk
- 9:56Speaker 2: about this, but this is going to be the conversation
- 9:58Speaker 2: all day.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Saturday, whether they back down or whether they play these guys.
- 10:02Speaker 1: This is going to be the College Game Day discussion
- 10:04Speaker 1: and everything else. I'm eager to see how College Game
- 10:06Speaker 1: Day handles it with their boy Lane, the boy Lane trade.
- 10:10Speaker 1: What's Jimmy Sexton advising? Jimmy Sexton, who we ran into
- 10:14Speaker 1: at Craig's one night, a very nice man, and talked
- 10:16Speaker 1: to him. Great dude. Love having conversations with Jimmy Sexton.
- 10:20Speaker 1: He is the king of college football coaches. What are
- 10:23Speaker 1: they going to say? Nobody says anything bad about any
- 10:27Speaker 1: coach because every coach is represented by Jimmy Sexton. Last
- 10:33Speaker 1: year we saw on College Game Day, whenever Lane Kiffin's
- 10:37Speaker 1: making the flip from Ole Miss to LSU, not one
- 10:40Speaker 1: bad thing was said. To the point where ESPN didn't
- 10:44Speaker 1: even have Lane on the show Not because Kiffin said no. Remember,
- 10:52Speaker 1: he wanted to. He wanted to come on during the
- 10:55Speaker 1: college football playoff ramp-up, all that. No, no, no, no.
- 10:58Speaker 1: They didn't have him on because it would have been
- 10:59Speaker 1: too positive. It would have been too positive for the
- 11:01Speaker 1: lane train. I know.
- 11:05Speaker 2: It was funny last year. They were basically just screaming,
- 11:08Speaker 2: let him in, let him in, let him coach.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Let him in and let him play. Let him coach.
- 11:11Speaker 2: It's got to be about the players, right? It's got
- 11:14Speaker 2: to be about the kids. They're just kids, guys. It's
- 11:17Speaker 2: got to be about the kids. Let those kids play
- 11:20Speaker 2: for their coach. Hilarious, too.
- 11:25Speaker 1: Let him see this through. I keep going back to.
- 11:28Speaker 2: Lane Kiffin going to his leadership council and saying, guys,
- 11:32Speaker 2: he's like walking in handcuffed. My hands are cuffed here.
- 11:35Speaker 2: They're tied. The kids want these pros. They want the
- 11:40Speaker 2: experience of playing with these NFL players. I asked my
- 11:43Speaker 2: leadership council... And they said yes.
- 11:46Speaker 1: Daddy, play them. Please. We want to be better. We
- 11:48Speaker 1: want to be better for you, Daddy Lane. Speaking of
- 11:51Speaker 1: Daddy Lane.
- 11:51Speaker 2: Hutton, have you happened to see the excerpts from the
- 11:53Speaker 2: Vanity Fair story on Lane Kiffin?
- 11:56Speaker 1: No. That was published? No.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Let's just say no mystery to anyone who knows the SEC.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Every single detail about Innisfree, about everything in Alabama, was
- 12:09Speaker 2: written about in this story to the point that Nick Saban–
- 12:15Speaker 2: They get into detail about basically Lane Kiffin. We bang
- 12:21Speaker 2: hats on this show, so I'll go ahead and say
- 12:22Speaker 2: this word. He banged the wrong person at Alabama. Some
- 12:27Speaker 2: affluent Alabama person, he banged. And this is the one
- 12:33Speaker 2: straw that broke Nick Saban's back with him that he
- 12:36Speaker 2: got irate about. with Lane Kiffin overdoing this thing, whatever
- 12:40Speaker 2: it was. They didn't mention the woman who it was,
- 12:42Speaker 2: but whatever he did. And that when Ole Miss or
- 12:45Speaker 2: Florida Atlantic at the time, when anybody was coming to
- 12:48Speaker 2: Nick Saban about hiring Lane Kiffin, he would tell the school,
- 12:52Speaker 2: Lane's a good coach. You have to keep him away
- 12:54Speaker 2: from the college girls, saying you have to make sure
- 12:58Speaker 2: that he's only with girls who have graduated from college
- 13:01Speaker 2: the entire time. Keep him away from sorority houses. Keep
- 13:04Speaker 2: him away from college girls.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Keep him away. It's, it's a long, it's a big story.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I read it, but I'm, but like everybody, it's funny.
- 13:13Speaker 2: Everybody who covers the SEC is like, yeah, this is,
- 13:16Speaker 2: this is no surprise, right?
- 13:18Speaker 1: No one's like, oh my gosh. Yeah.
- 13:19Speaker 2: This is like, it's, it's been long. No, but there
- 13:22Speaker 2: are specific stories about Innisfree that I know you and
- 13:24Speaker 2: I had heard never discussed on air fully, but now
- 13:28Speaker 2: they're all out there at Vanity Fair about Lane Kiffin too.
- 13:30Speaker 2: But I just keep going back to Lane Kiffin is
- 13:33Speaker 2: a narcissistic robot sent here to To win football games.
- 13:39Speaker 2: His goal is to win a national title. He does
- 13:42Speaker 2: not care about your feelings. He does not care about
- 13:45Speaker 2: individual humans on his team. They are all chess pieces
- 13:50Speaker 2: on a giant chess board for a coach trying to
- 13:52Speaker 2: win the ultimate prize. And he is trying to put
- 13:55Speaker 2: those pieces in position to succeed. Their success is his success,
- 14:00Speaker 2: so he wants them to succeed. I'm not saying he's
- 14:02Speaker 2: outright trying to get his guys to fail or wants
- 14:05Speaker 2: them to not do well. It's all success for them,
- 14:08Speaker 2: but it's all about him, too. It's not about anybody else.
- 14:11Speaker 2: It's all about Lane Kiffin.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Now, I know that Tom Mars is more likely to
- 14:16Speaker 1: be correct based on his law analysis here, but what
- 14:19Speaker 1: if this goes LSU's way? Does it go the way
- 14:23Speaker 1: of the On 3 headlines? that says, new, several SEC
- 14:26Speaker 1: programs are exploring adding former NFL players and 2022 recruits
- 14:31Speaker 1: ahead of the season, despite the focus on LSU. This
- 14:34Speaker 1: according to Pete Nacos.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Who are the teams? I'm asking this to Pete Nacos.
- 14:40Speaker 2: I don't have a subscription, so I hit it and
- 14:43Speaker 2: I hit a paywall.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Me too.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Normally on those stories, everyone starts to go and post
- 14:48Speaker 2: what he said below the comments and they zap those.
- 14:51Speaker 1: So you have to pay for the story. But several
- 14:52Speaker 1: SEC programs means more than two, is what I would say.
- 14:57Speaker 1: And regardless of who the teams are, I would say,
- 15:02Speaker 1: are we about to see the floodgates open if, in fact,
- 15:04Speaker 1: this goes the opposite way today? I don't think so.
- 15:07Speaker 1: And it sounds like yes. I don't think On3 would
- 15:09Speaker 1: publish that.
- 15:10Speaker 2: I don't think On3 would publish that, but also Pete
- 15:13Speaker 2: Nacos is a good reporter. I think there's a difference
- 15:16Speaker 2: between there are several schools who are looking into the
- 15:20Speaker 2: possibility who have explored that path. I think probably almost
- 15:23Speaker 2: all of them. When LSU started going down this road
- 15:27Speaker 2: and it started to happen, I think all of them
- 15:29Speaker 2: went down this path. I would still be shocked if
- 15:32Speaker 2: someone else jumped into the mix given the heavy rhetoric
- 15:35Speaker 2: of the SEC right now. It's one thing to be
- 15:38Speaker 2: exploring it. It's another thing to actually do it given
- 15:41Speaker 2: what the SEC has done. Given those 79 pages of
- 15:44Speaker 2: documents they filed in a court about what they're going
- 15:47Speaker 2: to do to LSU if they do that. I'm not
- 15:49Speaker 2: denying the Pete Nacos report. I'd like to know specifically who,
- 15:53Speaker 2: which I don't think is referenced in that. I want
- 15:56Speaker 2: to know what programs are doing it, not just the several.
- 15:59Speaker 2: And I still have a hard time believing that they're
- 16:01Speaker 2: actually going to go through with it. given how hard
- 16:03Speaker 2: of a stance the SEC has taken.
- 16:05Speaker 1: Could be wrong.
- 16:06Speaker 2: We could be having half the league being kicked out,
- 16:09Speaker 2: and we're going to bring on Kansas and all these others,
- 16:11Speaker 2: and Iowa State into the SEC once they remove all
- 16:14Speaker 2: the schools that do this. But I believe this is
- 16:17Speaker 2: still an LSU versus the SEC issue.
- 16:20Speaker 1: But we'll see. We'll see if that report comes true.
- 16:23Speaker 1: I will try to get behind the paywall before the
- 16:24Speaker 1: end of the day show.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Well, what's funny about the paywall is, Hutton, if you notice,
- 16:28Speaker 2: they make a lot of their– and this is probably smart–
- 16:31Speaker 2: We're never going to make you pay at Sporting State,
- 16:33Speaker 2: by the way.
- 16:33Speaker 1: No.

- 16:44Speaker 2: for free.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But what people have been doing, I've noticed, and it
- 16:48Speaker 1: would really piss me off too if I was working
- 16:50Speaker 1: for one of these pay sites, is someone will go
- 16:52Speaker 1: in with access, read it, and immediately they tease the
- 16:56Speaker 1: name of the person or the school, and they'll immediately
- 16:59Speaker 1: come out and be like, Oklahoma and Georgia.
- 17:01Speaker 2: In the first comment. So everyone starts posting that so
- 17:04Speaker 2: you can hit the comments and see who they're talking
- 17:06Speaker 2: about or see the player or coach they're talking about.
- 17:09Speaker 2: For that reason, they turn comments off a lot of
- 17:11Speaker 2: the times on those Pete Nako stories because they want
- 17:13Speaker 2: you to go to the story to read it, which
- 17:15Speaker 2: is pretty smart, honestly, because usually I would go in
- 17:18Speaker 2: the comments and see what was said.
- 17:20Speaker 1: You can hit us up in our comments and let
- 17:22Speaker 1: us know if you want in the Hutton-Witherow Fantasy Football League.
- 17:25Speaker 1: We've got a handful of spots available. Three... You can

- 18:54Speaker 1: coming up. Chad, what are they saying in the chat?
- 18:57Speaker 2: The chat's firing off early and often right now. David
- 19:01Speaker 2: in the chat is asking, what about the women soccer
- 19:05Speaker 2: players at LSU that have already.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Been playing games? There you go. No one cares. That
- 19:09Speaker 1: are professionals.
- 19:11Speaker 2: If the SEC wins in court, they're going to be
- 19:14Speaker 2: made ineligible and will have to leave the team or
- 19:17Speaker 2: stop playing. They'll probably have to forfeit the games they're
- 19:20Speaker 2: playing in. I'll also say that no one's going to
- 19:22Speaker 2: kick LSU out of the Southeastern Conference over a women's
- 19:25Speaker 2: soccer situation. The only situation worthy of kicking someone out
- 19:29Speaker 2: of a conference is if you do something that violates
- 19:32Speaker 2: a football code in some way to the SEC.
- 19:35Speaker 1: And the rest of the conference is mad at you.
- 19:36Speaker 2: That's the one sport that rises to the level of
- 19:39Speaker 2: possible dismissal.
- 19:40Speaker 1: To the SEC. Well, that spits in the face of
- 19:43Speaker 1: what the Attorney General in Georgia is doing there, what
- 19:46Speaker 1: he's saying.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Yeah, again, the Attorney General of Georgia, I think, on
- 19:49Speaker 2: week about football, too, is my point. It's the football
- 19:53Speaker 2: team that's going to get the most eyeballs. Quite the
- 19:56Speaker 2: revelation there on Lane Train.
- 20:00Speaker 1: What do you mean, quite the revelation on Lane Train?
- 20:02Speaker 1: Because it's more about Kiffin than it is LSU football. Yeah, well,
- 20:06Speaker 1: it's more about football. Is my point. I think if
- 20:11Speaker 1: Kiffin was not there, if Brian Kelly were there, yeah, sure.
- 20:14Speaker 1: But I think it's also about the coach as much
- 20:18Speaker 1: as it is the program. If this were at Vanderbilt,
- 20:21Speaker 1: I'm not sure how many people, I'm not sure if
- 20:23Speaker 1: we'd hear this from Georgia. Yeah, I don't know. I
- 20:25Speaker 1: think the two go hand in hand, though.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I don't know another coach or school pairing both of
- 20:30Speaker 2: them together that would back this to the level that
- 20:33Speaker 2: LSU has.
- 20:34Speaker 1: With Lane Kiffin. But if this were Vanderbilt and Pavia,
- 20:38Speaker 1: if this were Vanderbilt and Pavia, let's just use Diego,
- 20:41Speaker 1: because Vanderbilt would absolutely have done this for Diego Pavia.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I'm not sure we'd have the Attorney General of Georgia
- 20:47Speaker 1: saying this about Vanderbilt football.
- 20:49Speaker 2: I don't think Vanderbilt, the university, or Clark Lee would
- 20:54Speaker 2: have played Diego Pavia if the SEC was threatening to
- 20:57Speaker 2: kick Vanderbilt out of the SEC.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I just don't think... I don't think any other coach
- 21:01Speaker 1: would continue to go down this road. I guess my
- 21:03Speaker 1: point is they got the TRO. They had the TRO
- 21:06Speaker 1: last year on behalf of Diego, but it never got
- 21:09Speaker 1: to this point of the SEC threatening to kick Vanderbilt
- 21:12Speaker 1: out like they are LSU because of Kiffin. Yeah.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Again, it's all about signing the NFL contract and playing
- 21:19Speaker 2: some time in the NFL and then coming back that they're.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Trying to stop.
- 21:22Speaker 2: But I don't believe– I'm thinking of the SEC coaches.
- 21:26Speaker 2: I can't think of a single coach that would– defy
- 21:29Speaker 2: the conference at this level.
- 21:30Speaker 1: He's Al Davis.
- 21:31Speaker 2: I mean, he's his former employer when it comes to
- 21:34Speaker 2: thumbing his nose at authority and Greg Sankey and the SEC.
- 21:38Speaker 1: And we'll see. We'll see if he is because, again,
- 21:42Speaker 1: as of right now, what have they done that has
- 21:45Speaker 1: warranted being kicked out as of this exact moment? It's
- 21:50Speaker 1: all threats.
- 21:50Speaker 2: I mean, it's all threats right now. They're all empty
- 21:52Speaker 2: threats if it goes away today. Yeah, no one's done
- 21:55Speaker 2: a thing yet that would warrant any type of punishment.
- 21:58Speaker 2: But if those dudes go and play on Saturday or play.
- 22:01Speaker 1: Next week and the SEC continues.
- 22:03Speaker 2: To say this, then something's going to happen or this
- 22:06Speaker 2: thing's going to go to the dadgum Supreme Court and
- 22:09Speaker 2: then LSU's going to get a favorable ruling and the
- 22:11Speaker 2: SEC can't do anything.
- 22:12Speaker 1: It is an interesting question, though, by David in the
- 22:14Speaker 1: chat because what the SEC voted on and what they
- 22:19Speaker 1: put out last week didn't just mention football. It specifically
- 22:23Speaker 1: mentioned other sports. Yeah. They went to that length. And
- 22:29Speaker 1: if LSU's already doing it, if they're already rostering and playing,
- 22:32Speaker 1: then they're already doing exactly what the Attorney General in
- 22:36Speaker 1: Georgia is complaining about. Maybe that's what he's saying. He's like, hey,
- 22:39Speaker 1: let's go ahead and kick them out now before they
- 22:41Speaker 1: even have a chance to say yes or no.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Well, and there's so much Lane Kiffin news coming out yesterday.
- 22:46Speaker 2: I'm trying to sift through all of it. One report
- 22:49Speaker 2: is that Lane Kiffin and his staff had been ratting
- 22:53Speaker 2: out Ole Miss about tampering. They'd been talking to Dabo
- 22:56Speaker 2: and Clemson. to try to nail Ole Miss because what Lane.
- 22:59Speaker 1: What give of that?
- 23:01Speaker 2: I know this personal psychology well. Anyone can understand it.
- 23:04Speaker 2: What Lane Kiffin wants more than anything is for Ole
- 23:07Speaker 2: Miss to fail after he left, after they didn't allow
- 23:10Speaker 2: him to coach the playoff.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Sure, sure.
- 23:11Speaker 2: The last thing he wants is for Pete Golding to
- 23:14Speaker 2: look good and for Ole Miss to keep rolling right
- 23:16Speaker 2: along without Lane Kiffin.
- 23:17Speaker 1: The minute he left, yeah.
- 23:18Speaker 2: Because that would invalidate him, right? That would say, I
- 23:20Speaker 2: was the only guy who could ever win at Ole Miss.
- 23:22Speaker 2: If somebody else continues to win for the next few years–
- 23:25Speaker 2: It's going to make Lane Kiffin look worse.
- 23:26Speaker 1: So Lane Kiffin is in cahoots with Clemson.
- 23:29Speaker 2: And Dabo Sweeney to nail Pete Golding and Ole Miss
- 23:32Speaker 2: on this tampering charge in the NCAA.
- 23:35Speaker 1: I sent this.
- 23:36Speaker 2: So Walker Jones of the Grove Collective is going to
- 23:38Speaker 2: join our show tomorrow. He's going to be the third
- 23:41Speaker 2: guest in our show's history. They play Louisville and Nashville
- 23:44Speaker 2: this Sunday. I sent this to Walker Jones, and I
- 23:48Speaker 2: was like, we have to ask you about this. And
- 23:51Speaker 2: Walker was like, I mean, this is– Basically, his response was,
- 23:54Speaker 2: this is low and new even for what we've seen
- 23:58Speaker 2: in the past with Lane. But he did say, he's like,
- 24:01Speaker 2: can we please not spend the entire interview with me
- 24:04Speaker 2: answering questions about Lane Kiffin?
- 24:06Speaker 1: And I was like, absolutely.
- 24:08Speaker 2: But we are going to ask you about Lane Kiffin,
- 24:10Speaker 2: you know, once or twice to get your thoughts on this.
- 24:12Speaker 1: And then we will talk about Ole Miss. Damn right.
- 24:14Speaker 2: But I think, Hunt, I only say that because that's
- 24:18Speaker 2: the feeling with most Ole Miss people. But it's also
- 24:21Speaker 2: like the ex-girlfriend you can't quit. That was, you know,
- 24:25Speaker 2: that was very hot. Like that's Lane Kiffin to Ole
- 24:28Speaker 2: Miss also. There's a little bit of tug of war.
- 24:30Speaker 2: And even Lane Kiffin going to Clemson and saying this stuff,
- 24:33Speaker 2: it's like it's both ways. Like I want to make
- 24:35Speaker 2: sure they fail. Sure, I want to win at my
- 24:38Speaker 2: job right now if you're Lane Kiffin. But you're also
- 24:40Speaker 2: doing these little back channel things to hurt Ole Miss.
- 24:43Speaker 1: It's wild where we are right now. I'm ready for
- 24:47Speaker 1: the football to be kicked out. Why is he the
- 24:48Speaker 1: only coach anyone ever talks about? And I'm not talking
- 24:53Speaker 1: about because of the salacious stuff. I'm talking about can
- 24:55Speaker 1: Lane Kiffin quit what he's doing and come join our program?
- 24:59Speaker 1: What has Lane Kiffin done except leave programs high and dry? Oh,
- 25:03Speaker 1: I know.
- 25:04Speaker 2: I don't know why he's– I mean, I think, look,
- 25:07Speaker 2: LSU should be a destination spot.
- 25:10Speaker 1: Yes.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Okay, like there should be no one else. There's a
- 25:12Speaker 2: lot of Alabama fans, some in our chat, who have
- 25:14Speaker 2: said Alabama even, the moment that– They fire Caleb DeBoer,
- 25:20Speaker 2: let's say.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Yes. Lane Kiffin's going to flirt with Alabama. Yes, he is.
- 25:25Speaker 2: He's going to start talking about, you know, I spent
- 25:27Speaker 2: some of the greatest years of my life.
- 25:29Speaker 1: There at Innisfree and with Coach Saban, and I really
- 25:32Speaker 1: need to get back. I've got to go see Tripp.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I've got to go see Tripp down at Innisfree.
- 25:35Speaker 2: It's an amazing time to be alive, and I just
- 25:37Speaker 2: want to really recapture that part of my life. So
- 25:40Speaker 2: I feel like I need to consider the great Alabama Crimson.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Tide, the job. It's going to be this cycle again.
- 25:46Speaker 1: all over again.
- 25:47Speaker 2: I don't know that Lane Kivitt's ever going to be
- 25:49Speaker 2: content or happy at any one place. I mean, I
- 25:53Speaker 2: don't know how you would be anything but thrilled with
- 25:55Speaker 2: the level of support you've been given right now at LSU.
- 25:58Speaker 1: They are backing you to the hilt. They are ready
- 26:00Speaker 1: to die in the.
- 26:01Speaker 2: SEC, to be kicked out of the conference, to support
- 26:03Speaker 2: you and three players, to see to it that you
- 26:05Speaker 2: get everything you need. So it's I think right now, Hutton,
- 26:10Speaker 2: to answer your question, he's the hot name. This is
- 26:13Speaker 2: the story cycle. Now all this other stuff is coming out.
- 26:17Speaker 2: That college game day from Baton Rouge is going to
- 26:19Speaker 2: be all about Lane Kiffin and NFL players coming back
- 26:23Speaker 2: to college. And I think the games fall by the
- 26:26Speaker 2: wayside until foot goes to pigskin and we start playing
- 26:31Speaker 2: actual football on Saturday.
- 26:34Speaker 1: The definitive list for the National Football League head coaches

- 27:40Speaker 2: This advertisement is not a promise to make a loan.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Just missing out on this week's top 10 for top
- 27:47Speaker 1: 10 head coaches. This is my honorable mention, Chad. Okay.
- 27:50Speaker 1: D'Amico Ryans, head coach of Houston, Texas. I think he's
- 27:54Speaker 1: right there on the fringe. Kevin O'Connell, head coach of
- 27:58Speaker 1: the Minnesota Vikings. And Kevin Stefanski, the new head coach
- 28:03Speaker 1: of the Atlanta Falcons. Of course, formerly two-time coach of
- 28:06Speaker 1: the year of the Cleveland Browns. I do not have
- 28:09Speaker 1: a two-time coach of the year in my top ten
- 28:12Speaker 1: right now. Kevin Stefanski, Hutton, I love that you bring
- 28:16Speaker 1: that name up.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Because you say it, and I'm like, yeah, of course.
- 28:19Speaker 2: He should be under consideration. Didn't give it a thought.
- 28:22Speaker 2: It's one of those guys, too. We were talking about it,
- 28:25Speaker 2: and you sent me your list.
- 28:26Speaker 1: And I'm like, looks good.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I wasn't immediately pining for Kevin Stefanski either. I wasn't saying,
- 28:33Speaker 2: where's Stefanski on this list?
- 28:34Speaker 1: How dare you? How dare you not include Stefanski?
- 28:37Speaker 2: But it's a great example of pretty good coaches in
- 28:40Speaker 2: the NFL that are not in.
- 28:42Speaker 1: The top 10. Very good top half of coaches in
- 28:46Speaker 1: the NFL is what I'll say. I'll say the bottom
- 28:49Speaker 1: half of the 32, they're pretty much all the same.
- 28:53Speaker 1: And then you really have the who's, the haves and
- 28:57Speaker 1: the have-nots, the who's who of the NFL. Number 10,
- 29:00Speaker 1: Mike Vrabel. Michael Vrabel, head coach of the New England Patriots.
- 29:05Speaker 1: He's taken the course of the Patriots to a Super Bowl.
- 29:07Speaker 1: He took the Tennessee Titans to an AFC championship game
- 29:11Speaker 1: during his time. Chad, I think he does a fantastic
- 29:15Speaker 1: job of rallying the troops when he arrives. You want
- 29:18Speaker 1: a culture change, you hire Mike Vrabel. There is a...
- 29:22Speaker 1: There is something about him, though, that I do think
- 29:26Speaker 1: is almost too alpha for the long-term approach. However, in
- 29:32Speaker 1: New England, he has the power. He handed that power
- 29:35Speaker 1: to Diana Rossini recently, I'm eager to see what happens
- 29:39Speaker 1: in the second go-around because I would have had Vrabel,
- 29:46Speaker 1: the second go-around of the Patriots, I'm saying, after the
- 29:49Speaker 1: finish runner-up of the Super Bowl, because I would have
- 29:51Speaker 1: had Vrabel a bit higher, not that much higher in
- 29:54Speaker 1: my top 10, but he sits at number 10 overall
- 29:57Speaker 1: because of the off-season crap.
- 29:59Speaker 2: Yeah, Diana has the power also. If we're talking about
- 30:04Speaker 2: somebody who has the power, she definitely has.
- 30:05Speaker 1: The power in that, no doubt about it.
- 30:08Speaker 2: I do wonder, Hutton, and you said you've got to
- 30:11Speaker 2: factor in the offseason and what that means for him now.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I also laugh because you say he's too alpha maybe
- 30:17Speaker 2: for it to work out long-term in one place.
- 30:20Speaker 1: I agree with that.
- 30:21Speaker 2: And that was also the argument that Diana Rossini made
- 30:24Speaker 2: as to why he didn't get a job right when
- 30:26Speaker 2: he got fired from the Titans, right? He's just too
- 30:28Speaker 2: big and imposing and threatening when he's in a room
- 30:31Speaker 2: with these owners. And they're really thrown off by how
- 30:33Speaker 2: scared they are of Mike Vrabel. But hearing her talk
- 30:38Speaker 2: about it then, it all makes sense. When she's like,
- 30:40Speaker 2: you know, just big, muscular build, giant hands.
- 30:44Speaker 1: Great voice. You know, it's really scary for these NFL owners.
- 30:48Speaker 1: Just so handsome. Yeah, I think the offseason that he's.
- 30:52Speaker 2: Had probably, for me, moves him down three, four spots
- 30:56Speaker 2: on the list where he's borderline top five. You know,
- 30:59Speaker 2: getting the Patriots the Super Bowl this past year and
- 31:01Speaker 2: then what he did with the Titans. Like, I think
- 31:04Speaker 2: 10's the appropriate spot because I think everything that's gone
- 31:07Speaker 2: on now, it's knocked him down four or five places
- 31:10Speaker 2: on this list probably.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Right in front of him is Matt LaFleur, head coach
- 31:15Speaker 1: of the Green Bay Packers. LaFleur, he interviewed for Vrabel's
- 31:20Speaker 1: job in Tennessee. He interviewed for the head coaching position,
- 31:23Speaker 1: ends up being his offensive coordinator for one year. Wasn't
- 31:27Speaker 1: that great of a year on paper, but they end
- 31:31Speaker 1: up becoming a team that's on the rise. And LaFleur,
- 31:35Speaker 1: who I didn't think was going to interview that well,
- 31:38Speaker 1: Turns out he interviews just fine, even though in person
- 31:40Speaker 1: he's kind of just quirky. And that's because he interviewed
- 31:45Speaker 1: well with the Titans, ends up getting the OC job.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Whenever Ryan Day becomes the coach-in-waiting at Ohio State, he's
- 31:51Speaker 1: no longer the offensive coordinator for Vrabel. That's what Vrabel
- 31:54Speaker 1: was pitching in his interview with the Titans. So he
- 31:56Speaker 1: needs an OC. John Robinson says, hey, check out LeFleur.
- 32:01Speaker 1: They pair up. LeFleur then becomes the head coach of
- 32:04Speaker 1: the Green Bay Packers. And since then, his winning percentage
- 32:07Speaker 1: is through the roof.
- 32:09Speaker 2: Hutton, you have to share, because this is all I
- 32:11Speaker 2: think about when I hear the name LeFleur.
- 32:13Speaker 1: I think of two things.
- 32:14Speaker 2: I think of LeFleur from Dodgeball, Vince Vaughn's character, LeFleur.
- 32:18Speaker 2: And I think of the story of playing the football
- 32:21Speaker 2: game in London where he's greeted.
- 32:24Speaker 1: By a Titan staffer.
- 32:25Speaker 2: His response, please share this. You don't have to share
- 32:28Speaker 2: the staffer's name, but someone just like seeing a coach
- 32:32Speaker 2: and like any person would respond with, you know, Hey,
- 32:35Speaker 2: how's it going? Uh, and, and LaFleur's response when he
- 32:38Speaker 2: was greeted with a, Hey, how's it going? After a close,
- 32:40Speaker 2: was it overtime loss?
- 32:42Speaker 1: Yeah. Overtime loss. Overtime loss to the Chargers in London. Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 1: So the Titans are, we're, we're boarding the flight back to, uh,
- 32:50Speaker 1: back to Nashville from London right after the game. And, uh,
- 32:54Speaker 1: Matt's a very quiet dude anyway. Very keeps to himself. Again,
- 32:58Speaker 1: it kind of just kind of, you're like, this guy
- 33:00Speaker 1: doesn't really like to speak very much anyway. And, uh,
- 33:04Speaker 1: you know, he's pissed off because the Titans lost on, uh,
- 33:08Speaker 1: they ended up going for two, I believe. Um, uh, and, uh, whatever,
- 33:14Speaker 1: whatever they called didn't work, didn't work. So the chargers win,
- 33:19Speaker 1: the chargers win the game. It's a long flight back.
- 33:22Speaker 1: It's a long flight back anyway. But, um, As we're boarding,
- 33:27Speaker 1: I'm right behind LeFleur, and there's this woman who's just
- 33:31Speaker 1: a sweetheart of a woman. A total sweetheart. Who works
- 33:35Speaker 1: for the Titans. And turns around and just making small talk.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Was like, hey, oh, hey, Hutt. I'm like, oh, hey,
- 33:43Speaker 1: how are you? Blah, blah, blah, blah. And then LeFleur's
- 33:46Speaker 1: right in front of me, just pissed off. Just pissed off.
- 33:50Speaker 1: And how are you, coach? How the F do you
- 33:53Speaker 1: think I am? Ha, ha, ha, ha. And you would
- 33:57Speaker 1: have just watched this woman shrivel up like she's going
- 33:59Speaker 1: to be fired. So good. How the F do you
- 34:02Speaker 1: think I am? And this woman thought she was going
- 34:05Speaker 1: to be fired. I'm like, everything's going to be fine.
- 34:07Speaker 1: It has nothing to do with you. It's just they've lost.
- 34:10Speaker 1: They went for two and lost and he's pissed off.
- 34:13Speaker 1: That's the life of the NFL. Everybody was walking on
- 34:16Speaker 1: eggshells then, Chad, within the organization.
- 34:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and let's keep in mind, too, this was a
- 34:20Speaker 2: time where they didn't really have to walk on eggshells
- 34:22Speaker 2: at all times.
- 34:23Speaker 1: No, no, no, no.
- 34:24Speaker 2: And this was a totally harmless interaction, no big deal
- 34:26Speaker 2: at all. I hear that and I just laugh and
- 34:28Speaker 2: think that, yeah, that's probably how a lot of coaches
- 34:30Speaker 2: interact with them in that moment.
- 34:31Speaker 1: It wasn't even yelling. It was kind of like a smirk, like,
- 34:33Speaker 1: how the F do you think I am?
- 34:35Speaker 2: Yeah, like, you know, we can get bad news and
- 34:39Speaker 2: say that to someone who asks almost in a joking.
- 34:41Speaker 1: Way, like, what do you mean? How am I right now?
- 34:44Speaker 1: Totally innocent, honestly. By the way, Chad, Chad, I remember
- 34:46Speaker 1: thinking to myself, because I'm behind him, going, hmm, hmm,
- 34:49Speaker 1: got a point. He's got a point. Fair point.
- 34:53Speaker 2: I would feel a little bit bad about that game, too. Yeah, no, look,
- 34:58Speaker 2: it's totally harmless. I think it's fine for LeFleur, and
- 35:02Speaker 2: it's fine for the staffer also. When you look back,
- 35:04Speaker 2: it's really funny. to think about the interaction. It's also
- 35:08Speaker 2: true that if this were going on now.
- 35:10Speaker 1: She probably would be fired.
- 35:15Speaker 2: I mean, the Titans are revoking media credentials right now
- 35:18Speaker 2: of someone who's crossed them. I guarantee you, she'd have
- 35:21Speaker 2: a reason to be worried about getting fired in that
- 35:24Speaker 2: moment if this happened now.
- 35:24Speaker 1: Would this mean I'm getting a promotion for telling a
- 35:26Speaker 1: story about something that happened to the team playing?
- 35:32Speaker 2: I want to make clear, Hutton is no longer in
- 35:35Speaker 2: the employ of the Tennessee Titans football organization, and he was.
- 35:40Speaker 1: At this point.
- 35:41Speaker 2: This also, I believe, was a story that was not
- 35:43Speaker 2: told on the plane. It was told outside of the plane.
- 35:45Speaker 1: We were right on the tarmac, about to go up
- 35:50Speaker 1: the steps to the plane. Tarmac, fair game, talking about
- 35:54Speaker 1: stuff on the plane, especially publicly, not always fair. Chad,
- 35:59Speaker 1: I'll get promoted, though. There's a precedent now. I'll get promoted. Yeah. Congratulations, Hutton.
- 36:04Speaker 1: You're back. You're back with the Titans after telling that story.
- 36:08Speaker 1: They welcome you back with open arms. Number eight on
- 36:11Speaker 1: my list of top ten, our depth chart for Hutton
- 36:14Speaker 1: and Withrow. Number eight, Jim Harbaugh. Jim Harbaugh, the head
- 36:18Speaker 1: coach of the Chargers, which is the franchise that Diana
- 36:22Speaker 1: Rossini reported Mike Vrabel was too alpha for. They have
- 36:28Speaker 1: hired Jim Harbaugh. And what does Harbaugh do? He wins.
- 36:31Speaker 1: He wins games. He comes in and there is a
- 36:34Speaker 1: distinct culture with Jim Harbaugh. You're going to be gritty.
- 36:37Speaker 1: You're going to be tough in the trenches. You're going
- 36:38Speaker 1: to run the football very well. Players love the guy.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I don't understand why or how, Chad. I don't get it.
- 36:45Speaker 1: I think he's just weird. And by the way, speaking
- 36:51Speaker 1: of Kiffin, he is rules be damned just as much
- 36:53Speaker 1: as Lane Kiffin is. He doesn't care what he did.
- 36:56Speaker 1: Look the way he left Michigan. Look at the way
- 36:58Speaker 1: that the whole Connor Stallions thing went down. I mean,
- 37:01Speaker 1: Mike McDonald at one point was his defensive coordinator in Michigan.
- 37:05Speaker 1: And everybody wins if you touch the cloak of Harbaugh
- 37:08Speaker 1: because you get out of town before things get really,
- 37:11Speaker 1: really bad. I'm not saying that's the case right now
- 37:14Speaker 1: in Los Angeles because the Chargers have a pretty good
- 37:17Speaker 1: football team. They're building it his way. And he's one
- 37:20Speaker 1: of the top 10 best coaches in the NFL. Could
- 37:22Speaker 1: be higher on this list, but there's some really good
- 37:25Speaker 1: names ahead of him. Dan Campbell is ahead of him.
- 37:28Speaker 1: What Dan Campbell's done for the Detroit Lions, Chad. Yes.
- 37:33Speaker 1: It's hard to argue that Dan Campbell is not ahead
- 37:38Speaker 1: of the coaches that we've mentioned. Well, it's Dan Campbell.
- 37:42Speaker 1: You got Dan Campbell at eight. Harbaugh, nine. Campbell, eight.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Dan Campbell's at seven. Harbaugh, eight. Sorry, Harbaugh, eight. LaFleur, nine.
- 37:49Speaker 1: And Rabel's ten.
- 37:51Speaker 2: I ask that because you've referenced, we've got three guys
- 37:54Speaker 2: down in a row, Mike Vrabel, not in a row,
- 37:56Speaker 2: LeFleur broke them up, Vrabel, Harbaugh, and then Dan Campbell.
- 38:01Speaker 2: All three of those guys, you talk about Vrabel being
- 38:03Speaker 2: an alpha, all those guys, you know this with football guys,
- 38:06Speaker 2: those are the dudes you have to brace yourself for
- 38:08Speaker 2: when you go shake their hand. If you get the
- 38:11Speaker 2: half bro hug from them, they might crack a vertebrae
- 38:14Speaker 2: as they smack you in the back. All three of
- 38:17Speaker 2: those guys are dudes like that. They give the real
- 38:19Speaker 2: firm handshake. When you see him, I kind of associate
- 38:23Speaker 2: all three of them with that alpha football guy mentality.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Harbaugh certainly being one of those two. Harbaugh's going to
- 38:29Speaker 1: look at you like a serial killer. He's going to
- 38:31Speaker 1: look at you wearing glasses that are as thick as
- 38:33Speaker 1: an old school Coke bottle. That thick of glass while
- 38:37Speaker 1: he squeezes your hand and tries to break your hand
- 38:39Speaker 1: in half. And he's got a warm milk in the
- 38:41Speaker 1: other hand.
- 38:42Speaker 2: He's just slowly sipping the warm milk while staring you
- 38:45Speaker 2: in the eyes trying to get a read on you. Yeah,
- 38:48Speaker 2: I feel like Jim Harbaugh has a milk mustache half
- 38:50Speaker 2: the day when he's around the office. That's all he
- 38:53Speaker 2: does is drink whole milk, too. None of this skim stuff.
- 38:57Speaker 2: All the fat in it, that's how he's been raised.
- 38:59Speaker 2: That's how he does it. That's Jim Harbaugh for you.
- 39:02Speaker 1: Whole milk guy. We'll see what happens in New York,
- 39:05Speaker 1: but his brother, John Harbaugh, comes in at number six
- 39:07Speaker 1: for us. Just outside of the top five because he's
- 39:10Speaker 1: won a Super Bowl, because of the consistency in Baltimore,
- 39:14Speaker 1: because of the... the identity that he brings with the
- 39:18Speaker 1: teams that he coaches. We'll see what he brings with
- 39:21Speaker 1: him to New York, but for right now, John Harbaugh
- 39:24Speaker 1: remains high atop the list of best coaches in the NFL.
- 39:28Speaker 1: In fact, and you could say this about Robert Sala,
- 39:31Speaker 1: I guess, and in fact, I would argue you could,
- 39:35Speaker 1: but whenever coaches were hired this offseason, there were plenty
- 39:38Speaker 1: of them, plenty of coaches, first-year head coaches and second-time
- 39:43Speaker 1: head coaches. Here's one of them. and before there's even
- 39:47Speaker 1: a team meeting, players know the expectation and what they're
- 39:50Speaker 1: getting in their coach. I think there's only two of
- 39:52Speaker 1: them you could say that for. Maybe three if you
- 39:54Speaker 1: want to count Mike McCarthy, but I don't know how
- 39:56Speaker 1: many players today know about Mike McCarthy, the head coach,
- 40:00Speaker 1: like they do John Harbaugh, the head coach in Baltimore,
- 40:03Speaker 1: or even Sala, the type of coach that he was
- 40:06Speaker 1: going to be. So I think that's benefit to John
- 40:09Speaker 1: Harbaugh and the Giants. We'll see how that works out
- 40:12Speaker 1: with Jackson Dart and company, but John Harbaugh, Right there
- 40:16Speaker 1: on the fringe of being top five, Jack.
- 40:18Speaker 2: To me, far and away the best hire of this
- 40:21Speaker 2: past offseason, just given his track record, his accomplishments. It's
- 40:25Speaker 2: a Giants organization that works so well when they have
- 40:29Speaker 2: that steady hand.
- 40:31Speaker 1: You know, when I think about the Giants, Hutton, I
- 40:33Speaker 1: think about professionalism.
- 40:34Speaker 2: You know, oftentimes the Mara family, like it's the buttoned
- 40:37Speaker 2: up version of the Jets in that New York City area, right?
- 40:41Speaker 2: Like they're the ones that it's kind of the white
- 40:43Speaker 2: collar version to the blue collar.
- 40:45Speaker 1: New York Jets approach.
- 40:47Speaker 2: And I think John Harbaugh fits that perfectly in what
- 40:50Speaker 2: he stands for and him being the figurehead of your organization.
- 40:53Speaker 2: I think it's perfectly lockstep with what the Giants have
- 40:57Speaker 2: been at their best. Makes total sense for them. He
- 41:00Speaker 2: was my favorite hire this past offseason. I love where
- 41:03Speaker 2: you have him on this list.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Michigan tie-in. Mike McDonald cracks the top five after winning
- 41:09Speaker 1: the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. He gets his
- 41:12Speaker 1: opportunity as a head coach after being a solid defensive coordinator.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Lands in Seattle and is just himself. You can tell
- 41:19Speaker 1: based on Hard Knocks. I'm actually watching Hard Knocks again.
- 41:22Speaker 1: Me too. I found myself watching this again. I had
- 41:27Speaker 1: phased out of it. I'd really fallen out of love
- 41:31Speaker 1: with the show. You know, like the behind-the-scenes thing. I
- 41:34Speaker 1: thought it was very routine, very repetitive. This one was different.
- 41:38Speaker 1: Because of Mike McDonald. Really, the first speech that he
- 41:41Speaker 1: gave was like, hey, about this Hard Knocks thing. You
- 41:42Speaker 1: know what? This is us. We get a chance to
- 41:44Speaker 1: be individuals and show our personality. That's what you want
- 41:48Speaker 1: in this league. In a league full of everybody's exactly
- 41:51Speaker 1: the same, everybody marches to the same beat of the shield.
- 41:55Speaker 1: While the Seahawks can certainly do that, he allows his
- 41:59Speaker 1: players to be individuals and have some personality and play loose.
- 42:04Speaker 1: And that has led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super
- 42:06Speaker 1: Bowl world title. that means he's cracked the top five
- 42:10Speaker 1: in Mike McDonald. I'm a big fan of his.
- 42:12Speaker 2: I love Mike McDonald on Hard Knocks. I love him
- 42:16Speaker 2: as a coach, young coach also. You realize how young
- 42:19Speaker 2: he is when you see in Hard Knocks that he's
- 42:21Speaker 2: got a newborn out there as well. You wouldn't think
- 42:24Speaker 2: about that with an older NFL head coach.
- 42:27Speaker 1: I love the moment.
- 42:28Speaker 2: It's the start of, I think, episode three of the
- 42:31Speaker 2: series where the guy they just signed, you might have
- 42:34Speaker 2: to tell me what his name, the guy they just
- 42:35Speaker 2: signed that wears the short shorts. Really good edge rusher, linebacker.
- 42:40Speaker 2: He gets close to Sam Darnold once, and he's too close.
- 42:44Speaker 2: He's too effing close. You've got to get away from
- 42:47Speaker 2: him where he's getting close to his legs.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Does it again. He's like, get him out. Get him out.
- 42:51Speaker 1: He's too close. Too close.
- 42:53Speaker 2: And the dude's over there complaining and talking trash about
- 42:56Speaker 2: the coach and getting him out on the side.
- 42:58Speaker 1: And he's walking down the sideline.
- 43:00Speaker 2: He's saying, you can sit over there and bitch all
- 43:02Speaker 2: you want, but it turns out I'm running effing practice.
- 43:05Speaker 2: I'm running this effing practice. So you sit over there
- 43:07Speaker 2: and bitch all you want. I'm thinking, yes, this is
- 43:10Speaker 2: my type of dude. I've wanted to scream that at
- 43:12Speaker 2: travel softball tournaments before with 10-year softball players or at practice.
- 43:17Speaker 1: Hey, sit over there and complain all you want.
- 43:19Speaker 2: I hear you're talking, but it turns out I'm running
- 43:21Speaker 2: this practice tonight or I'm running this game.
- 43:24Speaker 1: Love that from Mike McDonald.
- 43:25Speaker 2: It shows that openness that you want in a coach
- 43:30Speaker 2: that you're working with professionals that you can approach and
- 43:32Speaker 2: talk to a man-to-man, but also... Very alpha in those
- 43:36Speaker 2: moments where he needs to be.
- 43:38Speaker 1: So I think he strikes the right balance. There are
- 43:41Speaker 1: popular first names if you're a head coach in the NFL.
- 43:43Speaker 1: Mike is the most popular. Mike is the most popular.
- 43:47Speaker 1: Sean is the most popular if you want to be
- 43:48Speaker 1: top five because Sean Payton is number four on our
- 43:53Speaker 1: list of the best NFL coaches for 2026. Sean Payton,
- 43:59Speaker 1: head coach of the Denver Broncos. JT's Denver Broncos. JT,
- 44:03Speaker 1: do you have any... Do you have any bad things
- 44:07Speaker 1: to say about your coach, Sean Payton? You know, I
- 44:11Speaker 1: don't know. I feel like the game, they sort of
- 44:14Speaker 1: remind me of the Titans.
- 44:16Speaker 3: Like there's games that you're like, I feel good about
- 44:18Speaker 3: this one on Friday going into Sunday.
- 44:21Speaker 1: And then Sunday at 7.
- 44:22Speaker 3: O'clock rolls around and you go, what the hell just happened?
- 44:25Speaker 3: But then some of those games that you're like, I
- 44:27Speaker 3: don't know. This one's going to be tough.
- 44:29Speaker 1: They end up winning.
- 44:31Speaker 3: I mean, if you said pick somebody else in this
- 44:33Speaker 3: list that you'd rather have, there's a couple of guys maybe.
- 44:35Speaker 1: But I'm happy with him. They're probably ahead of him.
- 44:38Speaker 2: JT just gave the best compliment the Titans have received
- 44:42Speaker 2: in years by comparing the Denver Broncos organization.
- 44:45Speaker 1: To the Titans. The Titans over there, if they're watching
- 44:47Speaker 1: this show, are like, yes. Yes, yes, we're back. JT,
- 44:50Speaker 1: great call. We're back.
- 44:51Speaker 2: Hey, can we give Jared Stillman's media credential to JT?
- 44:54Speaker 2: Can you just put Jordan Tinkle, Sporting State, on there?
- 44:57Speaker 2: Because this guy gets it. He just said the Denver
- 45:00Speaker 2: Broncos are very much like the Tennessee Titans.
- 45:03Speaker 1: Finally, somebody gets an organization. Yeah, that's journalism with a
- 45:06Speaker 1: capital J right there. That's right. That's right. You're welcome.
- 45:08Speaker 1: You're in. You're in. You can even fly on the
- 45:10Speaker 1: team flights, JT. You got this. Sean Payton, Chad, for me,
- 45:16Speaker 1: number four, top five. He gets results, man. He knows
- 45:19Speaker 1: how to win. One of the best offensive minds going.
- 45:23Speaker 1: And what he's done for an organization that needed a
- 45:25Speaker 1: kick in the ass. He came in and changed things
- 45:28Speaker 1: and brought things in his way. He had to do
- 45:30Speaker 1: it with the general manager for a bit, not for
- 45:32Speaker 1: very long. Now he's in charge.
- 45:35Speaker 2: Yeah, it's, I think, a no-brainer with that one. He's
- 45:40Speaker 2: always getting it done. I just had my coffee exchanged, Tutton,
- 45:43Speaker 2: so I'm good to go now. I'm on Crockett Coffee
- 45:46Speaker 2: number two right now, so here we go.
- 45:49Speaker 1: Number three, Kyle Shanahan, period. Period. one of the top
- 45:56Speaker 1: coaches in the NFL year in and year out. And
- 45:59Speaker 1: what they're able to do in San Francisco, Chad, despite
- 46:02Speaker 1: all the injuries that they go through, year after year,
- 46:06Speaker 1: they are the most injury-riddled franchise of this era. They
- 46:11Speaker 1: get hurt all the time. And they've done it with Mr.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Irrelevant at quarterback that just runs the offense. Knows the
- 46:20Speaker 1: offense through and through. Is perfect for Kyle Shanahan's group.
- 46:24Speaker 1: And They can run the football. He turns shifty wide
- 46:28Speaker 1: receivers into number one paid wide outs across the league.
- 46:33Speaker 1: If you're not happy with him, he just trades you away.
- 46:35Speaker 1: They'll plug and play again. He takes third and fourth
- 46:38Speaker 1: round picks and makes them look like first round picks.
- 46:41Speaker 1: Just a solid overall coach. That's what you want in
- 46:43Speaker 1: your organization.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I think beyond solid, honestly, I think if he wins
- 46:48Speaker 2: one of those Super Bowls that he's been to, he's
- 46:50Speaker 2: number one on this list. Because the way he's done
- 46:52Speaker 2: it offensively without a Hall of Fame quarterback, without even really,
- 46:57Speaker 2: I think, a top half in the NFL quarterback from
- 47:00Speaker 2: a talent standpoint.
- 47:01Speaker 1: Is remarkable. I love this dude. I think he's great.
- 47:04Speaker 1: And again, I know why he's not number one.
- 47:06Speaker 2: If he gets one of those Super Bowls that he's
- 47:08Speaker 2: played in, I would make the argument he's number one
- 47:12Speaker 2: on this list in the NFL.
- 47:13Speaker 1: Number two is the man where you touch the cloak
- 47:16Speaker 1: and you become the hottest thing going across the NFL.
- 47:19Speaker 1: The coat of any colors belongs to Sean McVay. Sean
- 47:22Speaker 1: McVay is number two on our list, and Andy Reid
- 47:26Speaker 1: tops him at number one for the greatness in the
- 47:29Speaker 1: dynasty that is the Kansas City Chiefs. Jad, I think
- 47:32Speaker 1: number one and number two are no-brainers. And just recapping
- 47:38Speaker 1: the depth chart, the top ten NFL coaches, number ten,
- 47:41Speaker 1: Mike Vrabel. Number nine, Matt LaFleur for the Green Bay Packers.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Number eight from the Chargers, Jim Harbaugh. Dan Campbell from
- 47:49Speaker 1: the Lions at number seven. John Harbaugh, the new coach
- 47:53Speaker 1: for the New York football Giants at number six. Our
- 47:55Speaker 1: top five, Mike McDonald is at number five. Sean Payton
- 48:01Speaker 1: is at number four. Kyle Shanahan comes in at three.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Sean McVay at number two. And Andy Football-Reed at number one.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Let me retract my previous statement and say if Kyle
- 48:14Speaker 2: Shanahan had won a Super Bowl, he would be number
- 48:16Speaker 2: two on the list because I was not factoring in
- 48:19Speaker 2: Andy Reid, who, yes, is absolutely the no-brainer number one.
- 48:22Speaker 1: But I would flip McVay-Shanahan if— that' s the right order because
- 48:27Speaker 1: McVay's won one.
- 48:29Speaker 2: I think McVay might win a second one this year also.
- 48:31Speaker 1: But— That's how good Kyle Shanahan is. That's how good
- 48:34Speaker 1: that list is. I love it. That's a good one.
- 48:37Speaker 2: I think when you threw it to me, the one
- 48:39Speaker 2: thing I was like maybe at the time swapping the Harbaughs.
- 48:44Speaker 2: That's all we did was flip up the Harbaughs. We
- 48:46Speaker 2: flipped Harbaughs. I think your initial one, we were right
- 48:48Speaker 2: on the same path. You had Jim at six and
- 48:52Speaker 2: John at eight. And I said flip the Harbaughs and
- 48:54Speaker 2: we're good. And now John at six, Jim at eight.
- 48:56Speaker 1: I love it. I love it.
- 48:58Speaker 2: And I think Mike McDonald is going to be the
- 49:00Speaker 2: steady climber on this one. He's the guy, I believe,
- 49:03Speaker 2: with the most upward mobility for an NFL coach is
- 49:06Speaker 2: what he was able to do with that Seahawks team.
- 49:08Speaker 2: And credit him, he's a defensive guy, and the defense
- 49:11Speaker 2: was obviously outstanding.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Should be again this year.
- 49:14Speaker 2: But what he was able to do with that team
- 49:17Speaker 2: and Sam Darnold, who's been written off. multiple times NFL
- 49:22Speaker 2: remarkable in one year with the Seahawks again honorable.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Mention D'Amico Ryan's head coach of the Houston Texans just
- 49:29Speaker 1: missed our top 10 also Kevin O'Connell up in Minnesota
- 49:34Speaker 1: just outside the top 10 for us And Kevin Stefanski, yes,
- 49:38Speaker 1: the two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski, not in
- 49:41Speaker 1: this top 10 for Hutton and Withrow. You can complain
- 49:44Speaker 1: about that if you want to. You can make it
- 49:45Speaker 1: your primary complaint. Primary complaint next here on Hutton and Withrow.
- 49:48Speaker 1: We are presented by Hard Rock Bet.
