Transcript
- 0:18Speaker 1: What's going on everyone? Emily body here you are listening
- 0:22Speaker 1: reunited with five Minute Friday from Hurdle. You know, it's
- 0:27Speaker 1: so funny the season breaks happen, and as much as
- 0:31Speaker 1: I know, because you let me know that you love
- 0:34Speaker 1: Mondays when Fridays aren't in the feed, this is what
- 0:38Speaker 1: I get the messages about from all of you. So
- 0:41Speaker 1: I'm happy that I make something that you enjoy as
- 0:44Speaker 1: a part of your weekly routine, and I'm also happy
- 0:47Speaker 1: that it's back for you today. Man, what a crazy
- 0:52Speaker 1: couple of weeks. I feel like there's so much I
- 0:55Speaker 1: could say here. I talk a little bit or write
- 0:57Speaker 1: a little bit about my feelings in today's edition of
- 1:01Speaker 1: the Weekly Hurdle. If you don't get the newsletter yet,
- 1:04Speaker 1: it's absolutely free and you could receive it in your
- 1:06Speaker 1: inbox every single Friday, So make sure you tap on
- 1:10Speaker 1: over to the show notes and make that happen. But
- 1:12Speaker 1: the theme that I focused on there and that I
- 1:14Speaker 1: want to touch on here today is this theme of
- 1:17Speaker 1: feeling really capable. The days were insane feels like an
- 1:22Speaker 1: understatement in Paris, and this is something that Lauren and
- 1:25Speaker 1: I talked about in the episode earlier this week. They
- 1:28Speaker 1: were long. I would get up earlier than I quote
- 1:31Speaker 1: unquote had to because there were things that I wanted
- 1:34Speaker 1: to do to take care of myself, AKA move my body,
- 1:38Speaker 1: make time to have a good breakfast, make time to
- 1:41Speaker 1: write in the morning, do the things that I knew
- 1:44Speaker 1: would fill my cup up so that I could then
- 1:47Speaker 1: pour back to myself and to other people. I'd often
- 1:51Speaker 1: be up by seven fifteen and then wouldn't go to
- 1:54Speaker 1: bed until after midnight. That's not my normal by any
- 1:58Speaker 1: stretch of the imagination, but I felt as though so
- 2:02Speaker 1: much of what I was doing was so purposeful that
- 2:06Speaker 1: I was flexing every muscle and skill that I have
- 2:10Speaker 1: worked on over the last decade, simultaneously, from podcast recording
- 2:17Speaker 1: and interviewing to hosting a live event, to networking and
- 2:22Speaker 1: meeting individuals, to interviewing for articles that I was working on,
- 2:26Speaker 1: to pitching ideas to outlets, some of them knew I
- 2:30Speaker 1: wrote my first items for Outside on this trip, to
- 2:34Speaker 1: then creating content with Lauren and making videos and writing
- 2:38Speaker 1: captions and storyboarding and being creative and fun and different
- 2:42Speaker 1: inventive ways. Right like, so many different things were happening,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and they were all happening simultaneously, and I couldn't help
- 2:51Speaker 1: but reflect even in the moment and realize that it
- 2:56Speaker 1: felt so good to feel so capable. I have been
- 3:01Speaker 1: pretty open at this point with my experience with depression
- 3:05Speaker 1: earlier in twenty twenty two, and that wasn't something that
- 3:09Speaker 1: was on my life Bengo card as someone who is
- 3:12Speaker 1: genuinely an optimistic person, I consider myself a really happy person,
- 3:17Speaker 1: as someone who's a self starter and self motivated and
- 3:21Speaker 1: is always down to work my butt off. I was
- 3:25Speaker 1: thrown for the biggest loop when I felt like my actions,
- 3:30Speaker 1: my decisions, my being wasn't entirely my own, and it
- 3:34Speaker 1: was really challenging. But the work that I did at
- 3:38Speaker 1: that time, and I'll link an episode that I have
- 3:40Speaker 1: on the feed that talks about that experience, the people
- 3:43Speaker 1: that I talked to, the medication that I took candidly
- 3:46Speaker 1: that I'm now no longer on just because it was
- 3:49Speaker 1: the right decision for me personally to come off of it.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I couldn't help but reflect that all of that hard work,
- 3:58Speaker 1: the frustrating, the moments that I felt like I would
- 4:04Speaker 1: never get to the other side of this feeling that
- 4:08Speaker 1: was so hard to explain I felt so grateful that
- 4:14Speaker 1: it happened. And that's how it works, right when you're
- 4:17Speaker 1: going through a difficult time. When you're going through a
- 4:20Speaker 1: hurdle moment, it's hard to think that you'll get to
- 4:23Speaker 1: the other side and be able to say I am
- 4:25Speaker 1: so grateful that happened for me. I believe that that
- 4:30Speaker 1: hard moment happened for me. It happened so that in
- 4:34Speaker 1: moments like what I experienced over the last fourteen days,
- 4:37Speaker 1: I cannot only rise to the occasion but be truly
- 4:41Speaker 1: rooted in how grateful I am that I have the
- 4:43Speaker 1: opportunity to show up at all. Over the past two weeks,
- 4:47Speaker 1: I truly felt like the best version of myself, and
- 4:50Speaker 1: in executing that, A big part of how I moved
- 4:54Speaker 1: and grooved in Paris was candidly putting out good energy
- 4:58Speaker 1: into the world and meeting the good energy that was
- 5:00Speaker 1: coming back to me. And I know talking about energy
- 5:04Speaker 1: can sound a little woo woo at times, but I
- 5:07Speaker 1: wasn't down for anything to ruin my vibe. I wasn't
- 5:11Speaker 1: granted there were going to be moments, especially when it
- 5:14Speaker 1: came to the work that I was executing, that some
- 5:16Speaker 1: things were going to be beyond my control, but I
- 5:19Speaker 1: was cognizant of what was within my wheelhouse and my
- 5:22Speaker 1: bandwidth to protect my energy, safeguard it, and show up
- 5:26Speaker 1: as the best version of myself, the version that again
- 5:29Speaker 1: makes me feel so damn proud. And so that's my
- 5:34Speaker 1: goal now moving forward. I feel like I'm not the
- 5:36Speaker 1: same after that. I feel like I was reminded of
- 5:40Speaker 1: who the hell I am and what it is that
- 5:42Speaker 1: I am capable of, and what I wanted you going forward.
- 5:46Speaker 1: And sometimes we have to have these kind of landmark
- 5:49Speaker 1: moments to reflect on and say, yesterday's experience is not
- 5:53Speaker 1: going to be tomorrow's experience. And so now I know
- 5:58Speaker 1: that I'm leveling up there so much more. I want
- 6:01Speaker 1: to do so many more people, to meet so many
- 6:03Speaker 1: more podcasts, to record interviews, to have moments that I
- 6:07Speaker 1: want to bask in how proud I am, and in
- 6:10Speaker 1: that process ideally continue to help other people. I don't
- 6:15Speaker 1: know if you can tell, but I'm really excited and
- 6:17Speaker 1: amped and motivated by this. So to circle back here,
- 6:24Speaker 1: I know, I leave you with a listener prompt and
- 6:28Speaker 1: my prompter you this week is I want you to
- 6:31Speaker 1: think about a moment when you maybe didn't feel so
- 6:34Speaker 1: shiny your hurdle moment, or at least one of them,
- 6:37Speaker 1: because we have them all of the time. They're happening
- 6:40Speaker 1: all of the time. Reflect on a hurdle moment that
- 6:44Speaker 1: you've been through and ask yourself, what did that challenging
- 6:47Speaker 1: thing teach me? What lesson have I brought with me
- 6:52Speaker 1: into the next chapter? And am I implementing regularly in
- 6:57Speaker 1: my life today. Reflect on a hurdle moment that you've
- 7:00Speaker 1: been through, even if it was truly challenging, and ask yourself,
- 7:05Speaker 1: what lesson did I learn in that experience that I
- 7:08Speaker 1: am constantly implementing today. I know what you think happens
- 7:13Speaker 1: now now? Typically in five minute Friday at this point,
- 7:16Speaker 1: I answer a audio listener question. And this was a
- 7:20Speaker 1: topic that Lauren and I chatted about while we were
- 7:22Speaker 1: in Paris, because I told her that I feel like
- 7:24Speaker 1: there's some resistance here and I am really of the
- 7:28Speaker 1: mindset that I am not a round whole, square peg,
- 7:33Speaker 1: square peg, round hole. You get the vibe I am
- 7:36Speaker 1: just like if it's not working, it's not working, and
- 7:39Speaker 1: it feels like it's not working. That doesn't mean that
- 7:41Speaker 1: I don't want to answer listener questions. So we're gonna
- 7:44Speaker 1: pivot moving forward and we're gonna start with next week.
- 7:48Speaker 1: What I need from you, dear listener. I feel like
- 7:51Speaker 1: I'm in Bridgerton saying that I want you to email me.
- 7:54Speaker 1: I want you to email Hello at Hurdle dot us
- 7:59Speaker 1: again that e address Hello at Hurdle dot us with
- 8:05Speaker 1: a question. It can be anything you want to know,
- 8:07Speaker 1: and maybe the only thing in that email is the question.
- 8:11Speaker 1: That's cool. I love answering your questions on the show,
- 8:14Speaker 1: and I get a lot of them also in my
- 8:16Speaker 1: DM so I would say you could DM me them,
- 8:19Speaker 1: but it's better for me for organizational purposes if they
- 8:22Speaker 1: all go to the same inbox. So we're going to
- 8:25Speaker 1: scratch the voice recordings. It seems like y'all are a
- 8:28Speaker 1: little anxious about that. I get it. It's cool, but
- 8:31Speaker 1: I still want your questions and I want to answer them,
- 8:34Speaker 1: and I really want to help wherever I can. So
- 8:37Speaker 1: email me your questions again the address Hello at Hurdle
- 8:40Speaker 1: dot us. Make sure you're following along on the socials.
- 8:43Speaker 1: It's over at Hurdle Podcast. I am at Emily Abadi
- 8:47Speaker 1: another Hurdle conquered. Catch you guys, next time.
