- 1:05Speaker 1: to talk about, please let me know. All right, back
- 1:08Speaker 1: to the show. So I titled this episode everybody rump
- 1:13Speaker 1: ros take a seat. I'm speaking how many of you
- 1:18Speaker 1: have an inner critic? I think we all do right.
- 1:21Speaker 1: Just like we have a butthole, we all have an
- 1:23Speaker 1: inner critic. And I'm a firm believer that if you
- 1:27Speaker 1: acknowledge something and give it a name, you're able to
- 1:32Speaker 1: work with it and tackle it. And I believe that
- 1:34Speaker 1: I've shared this story before that my inner critics name
- 1:37Speaker 1: is rump Ros. There's a whole story behind that that
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'll share for another day. Well, earlier this week I
- 1:46Speaker 1: had rump Ros come knocking at my door saying, hey,
- 1:52Speaker 1: I'm here. And you know how it is everybody, when
- 1:55Speaker 1: we are posed with a new opportunity that puts us
- 2:00Speaker 1: out of our comfort zone or out of our normal routine,
- 2:05Speaker 1: it makes us anxious. Sometimes. I don't know if anybody
- 2:08Speaker 1: else is an overthinker out there, but I think of
- 2:10Speaker 1: all the logistical things of Okay, how am I going
- 2:12Speaker 1: to get there? What's the cost? What equipment do I need?
- 2:16Speaker 1: Do I need a team? All the things right? Sometimes
- 2:18Speaker 1: we psych ourselves out of an opportunity, even before we
- 2:24Speaker 1: take a minute to see the simplicity in the entire
- 2:28Speaker 1: operation of itself. So this week I had two people
- 2:33Speaker 1: approached me with opportunities. The first one I had the
- 2:36Speaker 1: opportunity to speak with students at a local university here
- 2:40Speaker 1: about storytelling and really diving into the world of storytelling
- 2:46Speaker 1: in an AI driven society. And I'll be honest, y'all.
- 2:51Speaker 1: The opportunity came to me through LinkedIn. Believe it or not.
- 2:55Speaker 1: The university found me, they reached out to me, they
- 2:58Speaker 1: loved my story. Originally I was gonna say no. I
- 3:02Speaker 1: was gonna say no because of the turnout of the event.
- 3:08Speaker 1: You know, sometimes I feel like we all want to
- 3:12Speaker 1: have the big stages with the thousands of people, similar
- 3:16Speaker 1: to Tony Robbins or Deepak Troprah or you know, Lisa Nichols.
- 3:21Speaker 1: We want those big stages. But a lot of times
- 3:23Speaker 1: I find that it's in these smaller opportunities where we
- 3:28Speaker 1: find more appreciation and gratitude when the bigger ones come
- 3:32Speaker 1: are into our life. And so this week, when I
- 3:36Speaker 1: spoke to this intimate group of journalism students, I mean, y'all,
- 3:40Speaker 1: they had some good questions. I felt like I was
- 3:43Speaker 1: on the grill for men, and I find myself sweating
- 3:45Speaker 1: like man there and I'm glad that their curiosity was
- 3:51Speaker 1: in abundance like a kid, because they wanted to know
- 3:54Speaker 1: the ins and outs of how do I break into
- 3:58Speaker 1: the industry in a way world where there's so much content? Right?
- 4:03Speaker 1: And I shared with them. Remember, even though there's a
- 4:06Speaker 1: lot of content out there, whether it's on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, threads, x,
- 4:14Speaker 1: wherever you get your information, there's only one you. I'm
- 4:18Speaker 1: saying it again, even in the world of so much content,
- 4:22Speaker 1: there is only one you, and the people who need
- 4:26Speaker 1: to hear your message, they'll flock to you because the
- 4:30Speaker 1: way that I speak about, for example, those of you
- 4:33Speaker 1: who know my TV show, The Grief Granteur, the way
- 4:36Speaker 1: that I talk about grief is not going to resonate
- 4:38Speaker 1: with everybody, right, And so the same principle applies when
- 4:43Speaker 1: it comes to storytelling. Each of us has a unique
- 4:46Speaker 1: ability to share stories. Some of us it is in
- 4:50Speaker 1: a more analytical way through textbooks or you know, through accounting,
- 4:55Speaker 1: and others of us it's it is creative, whether it's video,
- 4:58Speaker 1: whether it's doing podcasts like that, or if it's writing books.
- 5:02Speaker 1: When I took a moment after the events, after speaking
- 5:08Speaker 1: to these students, I felt so much gratitude, y'all. I mean,
- 5:11Speaker 1: when I tell you, the gratitude was in excess. I
- 5:16Speaker 1: literally was driving to my next destination after that, and
- 5:21Speaker 1: I felt tears running out of my eyes because at
- 5:23Speaker 1: one point, I remember, I didn't believe in my story.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I didn't believe that my journey of working for my
- 5:33Speaker 1: dream job at NBC and then my mental breakdown and
- 5:38Speaker 1: losing both of my parents and starting my own business.
- 5:41Speaker 1: I didn't think that part of my story mattered. I
- 5:43Speaker 1: didn't think people wanted to hear that. But clearly, we
- 5:47Speaker 1: never know who was watching. We truly never know who
- 5:50Speaker 1: is watching and who needs to hear our story in
- 5:54Speaker 1: order for them to get the drum bead or the
- 5:57Speaker 1: lyrics to their own story and for them to start
- 6:02Speaker 1: really jumping back into life again. And you know the
- 6:06Speaker 1: other opportunity that came this week, right again, here comes
- 6:09Speaker 1: rump Ro's like, knock, knock, knock, Hey, poor scha. I
- 6:12Speaker 1: don't I don't think we're ready for this yet. I don't.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I don't think you're ready. You know, I had so
- 6:16Speaker 1: the opportunity before I go on a tangent. I was
- 6:20Speaker 1: approached to do media coverage for any event later on
- 6:25Speaker 1: in the year in another part of the world, And
- 6:28Speaker 1: again I found rump Ro saying, you know you're not
- 6:30Speaker 1: ready for that. You know, you, you, you struggled, you,
- 6:35Speaker 1: you can't do it, right. I kept hearing you can't
- 6:38Speaker 1: do it, and I thought to myself, well, why not?
- 6:41Speaker 1: Why can't I? What's stopping me other than me? Let
- 6:46Speaker 1: me say that again, what's stopping me other than me? Right?
- 6:50Speaker 1: And I took a moment when I was on this
- 6:54Speaker 1: call with this individual asking me. I said to them, hey,
- 6:58Speaker 1: let me send you a follow up email. Let me
- 7:00Speaker 1: think about the pricing and all of that, and y'all,
- 7:04Speaker 1: I'm proud of myself for fighting through the inner thoughts
- 7:09Speaker 1: that were trying to keep me from saying yes to
- 7:11Speaker 1: this opportunity, because I think a lot of times again,
- 7:14Speaker 1: we talk ourselves out of things because we're not we
- 7:18Speaker 1: don't feel as though we're ready, we don't feel as
- 7:20Speaker 1: though we're worthy. But I found myself saying, you know what,
- 7:23Speaker 1: we'll figure it out. We will figure it out. And
- 7:26Speaker 1: I said yes. And I'm glad that I did say
- 7:29Speaker 1: yes and silence that inner critic of mine because even
- 7:33Speaker 1: though it scared the bejeebis out of me, Like literally, y'all,
- 7:36Speaker 1: I found my knees buckling. You know, your mouth getting
- 7:39Speaker 1: dry like it is right now, I'm talking to y'all,
- 7:41Speaker 1: and I mean I found all of the things within me,
- 7:45Speaker 1: all the emotions circling in my stomach like when you're,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you know, stirring soup on the stove. I found all
- 7:53Speaker 1: of that prevalent and present before me. But I'm grateful
- 7:58Speaker 1: that I recognize I deserve this. Rump Rose, take a seat.
- 8:04Speaker 1: I'm speaking this time. Thank you guys for joining me
- 8:08Speaker 1: today on another episode of Group Portie. I will catch
- 8:11Speaker 1: you all next week. Until then, take care,
