A mountain girl named Hannah Tolman marches into Matt Dillon's office demanding he jail her hard-drinking father for his own protection — someone's been bushwhacking the old man in the hills outside Dodge. When a wanted poster reveals a Tolman kin has just broken out of prison, Matt starts to suspect the ambush and the family's secrets run a lot deeper than a stubborn old horse rancher and his sharp-shooting daughter are letting on.
