- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! Episode sixteen already. I can't believe it. Lucas: I know, right? Today we're going to talk about something everyone talks about. Luna: Let me guess... the weather! Lucas: Exactly. Weather is a perfect small-talk topic. And today we'll learn a few simple phrases. Luna: Great. I already know some colors from last episode. Maybe I can say 'blauw' for a blue sky? Lucas: Yeah, 'blauw' is a color. But today we'll focus on weather phrases. Let's start with the first one: 'Het is zonnig.' Listen slowly: Het is zon-nig. Luna: Het is zonnig. Lucas: Perfect. 'Het is zonnig' means 'It is sunny.' Repeat after me: Het is zonnig. Luna: Het is zonnig. Lucas: Good. Now imagine you look outside and see the sun. You say: Het is zonnig. Luna: Het is zonnig. I love sunny days. Lucas: Me too. Now our second phrase: 'Het is koud.' Say it with me: Het is koud. Luna: Het is koud. Lucas: Yes. 'Koud' means cold. So 'Het is koud' means 'It is cold.' Let's try both: Het is zonnig. Het is koud. Luna: Het is zonnig. Het is koud. Got it. Lucas: Third phrase: 'Het regent.' That means 'It is raining.' Say it: Het regent. Luna: Het regent. Lucas: Nice. Notice 'regent' sounds like 'ray-gent.' Het regent. Luna: Het regent. That's a useful one. It rains a lot here. Lucas: True. Now let's learn how to ask about the weather: 'Wat is het weer?' Listen: Wat is het weer? Luna: Wat is het weer? That's 'What is the weather?' right? Lucas: Exactly. 'Weer' means weather. So: Wat is het weer? Luna: Wat is het weer? Okay, I think I have it. Lucas: Let's practice a short conversation. I'll ask: 'Wat is het weer?' You answer with one of the phrases. Luna: Okay! Lucas: Wat is het weer? Luna: Het is zonnig. Lucas: Perfect. Another one: Wat is het weer? Luna: Het regent. Lucas: Yes! Now try: Wat is het weer? Luna: Het is koud. Lucas: You nailed it. Let's do it one more time. Wat is het weer? Luna: Het is zonnig. Lucas: Good. Now let's imagine a scene. You're on the phone with a friend in another city. You ask: 'Wat is het weer bij jou?' That means 'What is the weather there?' Luna: Wat is het weer bij jou? Lucas: Exactly. And your friend might answer: 'Het regent.' So you can say: 'Oh, hier is het zonnig.' That means 'Oh, here it is sunny.' Luna: Oh, hier is het zonnig. That's a nice contrast. Lucas: Yeah. Let's review all four phrases one more time. First: Het is zonnig. Luna: Het is zonnig. Lucas: Het is koud. Luna: Het is koud. Lucas: Het regent. Luna: Het regent. Lucas: And Wat is het weer? Luna: Wat is het weer? Lucas: Excellent. You can now talk about the weather in Dutch. Practice these phrases, and next time you look outside, try describing it in Dutch. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas. This was really useful. Lucas: You're welcome. Thanks for listening to Fexingo. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Dag! Luna: Dag!
