Transcript
- 0:10Hi Marvel fans, comic geeks and all the nerds in between.
- 0:12My name is Megan with vigilante vibes and today I'm here with
- 0:15another character breakdown, which is not a surprise.
- 0:17And today I want to talk about Night Nurse.
- 0:20So I've been wanting to make this episode for a while now.
- 0:23So I've kind of just had it in my back pocket.
- 0:25But with Matt Murdock in Daredevil Born Again Season 2
- 0:29Episode 5 dropping that I know a nurse line, I felt this would be
- 0:34the perfect time to do this. So we're going to talk about
- 0:37Night Nurse. So Night Nurse actually appeared
- 0:40in Lynda Carter Student Nurse Number One in June of 1961 and
- 0:44was created by Stan Lee and Al Hartley.
- 0:48So Night Nurse's actual name is Linda Jane Carter and she grew
- 0:51up in Allentown, NY and the she was the daughter of a small town
- 0:55doctor and she followed that same path right into medicine.
- 0:59After finishing medical school and becoming a registered nurse,
- 1:01she moved to New York City and started at Metro General
- 1:04Hospital alongside Christine Palmer in Georgia Jenkins.
- 1:08So sometimes you'll hear in Marvel Comics that there's three
- 1:12night nurses. There's only one, the night
- 1:14nurse, but she also has two other nurses that work alongside
- 1:18her, which is Christine and Georgia.
- 1:20Christine Palmer will sound familiar because if you've seen
- 1:25any of the MCU, you'll know that she's a really big deal to
- 1:27Doctor Strange. Somewhere along the way, she got
- 1:31engaged to a rich businessman, Marshall Michaels.
- 1:33But when he gave her the choice between marrying him and
- 1:37quitting nursing or staying at the hospital completely, she did
- 1:40not hesitate. She chose her career and let him
- 1:43go, which is we love a strong queen.
- 1:47And while she was at Metro General, she proved she wasn't
- 1:50just skilled with patients, she had a sharp investigative mind
- 1:53too. At one point, her life took a
- 1:56turn when she was saved by a masked vigilante.
- 1:59That moment stuck with her and she decided to give back in her
- 2:02own way. She created a secret identity,
- 2:04night nurse, and opened a hidden clinic in Manhattan's Chinatown,
- 2:09where she quietly treated injured superheroes.
- 2:12She became the go to doctor for the superhero community,
- 2:15especially for people like Daredevil, Captain America, and
- 2:18Doctor Strange. She helped Daredevil recover
- 2:21after a brutal fight with the Yakuza and later treated him
- 2:24again after he was shot, though that situation spiraled fast
- 2:29when Black Widow, the Hand, and the FBI all showed up at once,
- 2:33ending in a full blown fight and his arrest.
- 2:36She also patched up a lecturer after months of torture at the
- 2:39hands of the Scrolls. Something to note about the
- 2:42Night Nurse is that she never accepts payment from the heroes
- 2:46she helps patch up. She sees it as performing a
- 2:49public service and keeping heroes healthy and safe.
- 2:52During the civil war between the superheroes, Linda sided with
- 2:55Captain America's anti registration side, the Secret
- 2:58Avengers, helping the faction from a SHIELD safe house and
- 3:02even attending Caps wake when it was thought he was dead.
- 3:06After that, Linda saved Doctor Steven Strange's life after he
- 3:09had been shot by Hitler's handgun.
- 3:12The two of them learned of an elixir that could cure any
- 3:14illness known to man, including cancer, and went on a quest to
- 3:18retrieve it to save the life of Strange's best friend and
- 3:21partner, Wong. We all know Wong.
- 3:23We all love Wong. Linda and Steven then began a
- 3:27short lived partnership and romantic relationship, but they
- 3:30broke it off soon after. I liked them together
- 3:34personally. Through it all she kept doing
- 3:36what she does best, helping anyone that came through her
- 3:39door. She treated Luke Cage after a
- 3:41near fatal injury like we did see in the show when he was when
- 3:46he shot. No, it was Jessica Jones that
- 3:48shot him in the face with a shotgun, not him.
- 3:51But he did tell her to anyways. She stitched up spider man.
- 3:55She helped Iron Fist recover, aided Ariana and Black
- 4:00Tarantula, brought Nomad back from the brink, and even helped
- 4:04Firestar through chemotherapy. No matter who they were, if they
- 4:08needed help, she was there. Her personal life wasn't much
- 4:11easier, though. She dated Hawkeye for a time,
- 4:13but his obsession with taking down the Hood's gang kept
- 4:16getting in the way. Things finally fell apart when
- 4:19one of his allies died despite her efforts to save him.
- 4:23But after that, she couldn't stand by and watch him keep
- 4:26going down the path, so she walked away.
- 4:29I swear, man, every time I turn around Hawkeyes with someone
- 4:32else, dude gets around. Then came one of her toughest
- 4:37cases, Spider Woman. When Jessica Drew came to her
- 4:40feeling sick, Carter discovered her powers were actually killing
- 4:43her not long after during a symbiote invasion.
- 4:47Carter's clinic was intact by a symbiote dragon, which is wild.
- 4:52A symbiote dragon she called in every ally she could.
- 4:56Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Spider Woman, Captain Marvel, even her
- 5:00ex Hawkeye, which has to be weird.
- 5:03Spider Woman managed to destroy the creature using a serum, but
- 5:07it messed with her head and turned her against her own
- 5:09friends. Carter had to lock her in a Hulk
- 5:12tank until she could stabilize until someone broke her out.
- 5:16Eventually, things settled. Spider Woman recovered, made
- 5:20things right, and Carter even stepped in to babysit her son.
- 5:24Jerry or Gary, I don't know. I've never heard someone say it
- 5:28out loud. It's Gerry.
- 5:30I'm going to say Jerry. But even that didn't stay simple
- 5:36for long. When a suspicious version of
- 5:38Spider Woman showed up acting very off, Carter clocked it
- 5:43immediately. Something was not right, and she
- 5:45knew it. And she was right, it wasn't
- 5:47Jessica. The real Spider Woman arrived
- 5:50just in time, took down the imposter and rushed off to save
- 5:53her son. Who is Jerry or Gary?
- 5:58Through everything, the chaos, the fights, the losses,
- 6:01impossible situations, Lynda Carter AKA Night Nurse never
- 6:05backed down. She didn't need powers, a
- 6:07costume, or recognition. When heroes fall, she's the one
- 6:11that puts them back together. And in a world full of gods and
- 6:14monsters and Wizards, that might make her one of the strongest
- 6:18people out there. So that is Marvel Comics Night
- 6:21Nurse. You can see that Lynda Carter is
- 6:23pretty different from Claire Temple, but at the same time,
- 6:27are they? Both of them do whatever they
- 6:29can for whoever needs their help, even if they don't like
- 6:32them. Claire, I don't think she likes
- 6:34any of these characters and she goes out of her way to help them
- 6:37all. Just so some people know, Claire
- 6:40Temple being Night Nurse, that's actually a combination of two
- 6:43different characters, Night Nurse and Claire Temple.
- 6:45Claire is her own character in the comics.
- 6:48Personally, I love that they put them together.
- 6:49I think it worked out beautifully.
- 6:52I think Rosario Dawson does an incredible job and she has to
- 6:55come back, right? Like she was the one that tied
- 6:59all the shows together. It wasn't the hand, it wasn't
- 7:02the heroes, It was the one consistent thing.
- 7:05It was her. She's the one that met all of
- 7:08them. She's the one that patches them
- 7:09up. She's the one that talks about
- 7:11the other heroes and the other shows while she's in their
- 7:14shows. She is the one thing that keeps
- 7:17it all together, and it would be insane if they didn't bring her
- 7:22back. Also, like, girl, Rosario
- 7:25Dawson, you know, you're filming Ahsoka right now.
- 7:29You're on the same lot. You're right next door.
- 7:32Quit playing with us. You could just pop next door and
- 7:34be clear for a little bit, please, because that would be
- 7:37cool. So yeah, that is all I have to
- 7:40say about Nightmare. I hope you enjoyed it.
- 7:42I hope you learned something, and I hope you will like and
- 7:45subscribe. With that being said, have a
- 7:47marvelous night.
