- 0:00Just for the record, we weren't recording.
- 0:02Bubba is a champ. You did, You did.
- 0:06But you know what? Like, OK, you know what?
- 0:08OK, OK. Well, on that note, we just had
- 0:11an oh shoot moment. Have you had any oh shoot
- 0:13moments in your career? Anything that can make me feel
- 0:16better in this moment right now? Gosh, gosh, man Dang.
- 0:21But we're loosened up. We are.
- 0:22We're ready. You know, it's a great night
- 0:24here in downtown Indy. We are here at Bisiltinium I
- 0:29Centennial Plaza for Intersect. Had a lot of our key partners
- 0:34out here tonight. Xfinity hosting this thing was
- 0:37really, really cool. And I've enjoyed seeing the fans
- 0:41like in their element. You know, they're excited to see
- 0:43what's going on in the moment. We're bringing car culture,
- 0:46music, fashion into making this all work and it gives a behind
- 0:50the scenes look at kind of what we do as a team.
- 0:53So I know there's a lot of fans out, there's a lot of people in
- 0:55Motorsports that want to be a part of a racing in some
- 0:57capacity. This is your chance.
- 0:59We provide opportunities like this.
- 1:00You come out and be a part of it.
- 1:01Create those connections and have fun.
- 1:03Awesome way to recap all that so that we knocked out a few
- 1:05questions right there. I do want to go back to the
- 1:08track. You guys had the whole 2311
- 1:10team, had a strong finish last year, 2 top fives for you and
- 1:13Tyler, You led 26 laps. You talked a lot about momentum.
- 1:17How do you keep that going? It's it's hard to find, you
- 1:20know, the past success isn't breed future success.
- 1:22So we have to just continue to show up and work hard.
- 1:26Today. Obviously I canceled with the
- 1:27rain, but we have practice qualifying tomorrow.
- 1:30So the hard work starts tomorrow.
- 1:31We were very prepped what we need to do here based off last
- 1:35year's run. But you have to keep evolving.
- 1:38You have to keep moving because that's what the competition is
- 1:40doing. So you want to stay one step
- 1:41ahead? And this team has been talking a
- 1:43lot about wanting to find that speed, everything that you can
- 1:46control. What can you do to make up for
- 1:49that? Try the absolute fastest that
- 1:53you can show up and give it your all and make sure you're well
- 1:56prepped for anything that comes your way.
- 2:00Yeah, I think we have the right people in the right place.
- 2:02We have the right cars. It's just a matter of putting
- 2:04that last star in place and letting it shine.
- 2:06And just because I love hearing you talk about it, I talked
- 2:08about your cousin Trey Wallace, who's a buddy of mine says that
- 2:11you, you becoming a father has been such a strong influence in
- 2:14your life. Just talking about the Intersect
- 2:17as we're at this Intersect event, how that crosses over
- 2:19into your racing. Yeah, it's, it's just a nice
- 2:21reset button, you know, Bex is excited for when I walk back in
- 2:24the bus, you know, win, lose or draw.
- 2:25And and it's it's nice to have that this is such a doggy dog
- 2:29sport and a lot of days don't go your way.
- 2:33And so when you can have your son there look at you and he's
- 2:37proud of you no matter what, that's that's just awesome.
- 2:39So it's a it's a way for me to practice patience.
- 2:42I know as he gets older, there's going to be a lot of times where
- 2:44patience is tested. And there's a lot of parallels
- 2:47in, in in racing. So you got to be ready for
- 2:49whatever is thrown at you within milliseconds.
- 2:50So, yeah, which make the most of it.
- 2:52Have fun. Just because this is a topic I
- 2:55love talking about and we were just talking about it, just as
- 2:58we were caught up on not being recording, but the volunteers
- 3:01and Denny, your owner becoming an Ohio State fan, just any
- 3:05debate between the two of you in the first round of the playoffs.
- 3:08No, he's a bandwagon fan. So he jumped on when the team
- 3:11was hot. They played well.
- 3:12They they beat us fair and square.
- 3:14But I lost money to Blaney since he's he's a Buckeye fan.
- 3:17So that was a tough loss, but a good game.
- 3:19But there's always next year. And scale one to 10.
- 3:22How crazy is your fandom of Tennessee Volunteers?
- 3:25That fanbase is, yeah, pretty strong.
- 3:28The strongest I've seen since covering Ohio State I.
- 3:30Would say I'm about A5, I'm in the middle of the road.
- 3:32Yeah, I'm OK Moderate, yes. All right, well, thank you so
- 3:35much for recapping all this for me, making it better and even
- 3:38giving me an oh, shoot moment. So thank you so much, Tyler.
- 3:41Great to see you here. We made it to Indianapolis.
- 3:43Great finish last year in P2. What takeaways can you take from
- 3:48last season and being back at The Oval this year?
- 3:50Yeah, You know, for us it was the first time racing in the
- 3:53Next Gen. car on the Oval. And I think everybody was really
- 3:56curious to see what the racing was going to be like, how the
- 3:59tire would change as it would gain heat.
- 4:03And so it was really, really nice be able to come here and be
- 4:06as fast as we were, have a shot at it for sure.
- 4:10So yeah, we tried to learn as much as we could from it.
- 4:13Obviously again, with it being the first time in such a long
- 4:16time on the Oval, you know a lot of learning is happening quickly
- 4:20and it's going to be interesting to see how much better
- 4:24everyone's gotten in the year since we raced here.
- 4:26Yeah, definitely. And especially with that Turn 1
- 4:29always being very tight, how do you, what have you taken away
- 4:31from that? Especially when everyone's
- 4:33trying to get down to the bottom lap after lap, trying to keep
- 4:35that on them, then I'm going. Yeah, at the very end of the
- 4:37race last year, it got very interesting.
- 4:39You know, you had the cars up front that were saving fuel and
- 4:42everyone behind that wasn't. And yeah, just where you were
- 4:45getting to people on the corner entry was very last minute and
- 4:49there was some big dive bombs. So again, I'm, I'm very curious
- 4:53to see how, what it kind of looks like in practice for Year
- 4:552 and, and, and more so especially in the race, how much
- 4:59that's going to come into play again this time around.
- 5:01And obviously there is the lawsuit going on in the open
- 5:05charters and you are sitting there well fitted at the owner
- 5:09points, but how does that change things when there's open
- 5:12entries? They did change for 40 entries
- 5:14allowed, but any different style you're going to go for stage
- 5:17wins points. Yeah, no comment on.
- 5:21That I know that's a tough one, but just being around here, the
- 5:24energy is still pretty high. Everyone seems to be in good
- 5:26spirits just week after week. Just have to think of, you know,
- 5:29what does this do for the team? I mean, yeah, our team's just
- 5:33doing a great job. You know, we've, we've been kind
- 5:37of have to grind it out this year, obviously not having the
- 5:40win, but for any of our cars is tough.
- 5:42But the speed performance that we're bringing to the racetrack
- 5:45is good. You know, adding on to the
- 5:48third, adding on the third car this year with Riley in it, the
- 5:5035, you know, you got to go out and find, find, find good people
- 5:53to, to staff that car. You got to have more depth in
- 5:56the, in the pit department. And I feel like everybody's done
- 5:59a good job with that adjustment as we continue to to grow and
- 6:04have more cars that we got to pump out every single weekend
- 6:06and and more people under the roof at airspeed that make it
- 6:09all happen. Great team to have and great
- 6:11teammates and your your leader and co-owner Denny Hamlin won
- 6:15last week at Dover, signed an extension with Joe Gibbs.
- 6:18Is there a different perspective you have in that he's secured
- 6:22racing as a driver, but as an owner maybe the position is in
- 6:25question with the lawsuit. That's a tough one.
- 6:28Yeah, yeah, sorry about that. But is there anything you can
- 6:30learn from his racing and, you know, late into his career,
- 6:34takeaways from him as well as your teammates?
- 6:36Yeah, no, I, I knew him somewhat, you know, as a
- 6:41competitor, beginning to know him as the team owner, getting
- 6:44to know him as a driver on a, on a deeper level.
- 6:48Now that you know, I drive for him, we're all toy to drivers.
- 6:52It's been really beneficial to bid a lean on him for, for
- 6:55things that I know a little bit about, but have a lot of
- 6:58learning left to do. And so, yeah, whether it's been
- 7:00the short tracks or things that he's picked up on over the
- 7:03years, that applies to all different types of race tracks
- 7:06that we go to. Yeah, he's been a huge benefit
- 7:10for me and just getting me to understand things from a more,
- 7:14more of a veteran's perspective. Not all veterans are the same.
- 7:18He's definitely the one that stands out to me, that just his
- 7:21racing awareness, understanding what he wants out of his race
- 7:25car is at a level that some drivers dream of having that
- 7:29that don't ever get it. And you guys have the 2311
- 7:32teams, they've been wanting to find more speed, but what can
- 7:35you do to manage maybe that potential step up, but having
- 7:38great strength here in the past two years or the past year?
- 7:41Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know, you just got to go
- 7:44into these race weekends and, and take advantage of of your
- 7:47strengths. You always want to try and
- 7:49improve on your weaknesses, whatever tracks this might be.
- 7:52But yeah, for us, you know, this this organization, we we got to
- 7:55take advantage of. Well, I guess we don't know, we
- 7:58haven't been on track yet this weekend.
- 8:00But looking at last year, all the cars were really strong.
- 8:04And so if a lot of that remains to be the same tomorrow and
- 8:08Sunday, we've got to take advantage of it and execute.
- 8:11We've got to qualify upfront, we got to run up front to get those
- 8:15stage points and then hopefully have a shot at winning the race.
- 8:17Well, best of luck tomorrow, hopefully you get a crown jewel,
- 8:20get to kiss the bricks here in Indianapolis.
- 8:22What would it feel to to grab that one here?
- 8:24Yeah, I know when we raced the road course, I guess it, you
- 8:26know, in a lot of eyes it's it's not the same crown jewel event
- 8:29as a Brickyard 400. So yeah, getting to kiss the
- 8:32bricks once was was a very special moment.
- 8:34It was my my second Cup victory. So it would be great to do it on
- 8:39the Oval. And again, it, it stings in some
- 8:41ways that we were so close last year and just one spot short,
- 8:44but it was nice that we were that competitive.
- 8:48It's, it's always a great feeling to have as a driver when
- 8:50you can come to Indy, whether it's the road course or the OR
- 8:53the big track and be competitive.
- 8:55That's, you know, as someone that grows up watching races
- 8:58here, understanding the history and having a huge appreciation
- 9:01for how much the place means to racing in general, It's it's
- 9:04always great to be able to come to Indy and feel like you can
- 9:07contend for the win. Well, thank you so much.
- 9:09I know I I sent some hard ones your way, but I appreciate you
- 9:11taking the time and and talking with me.
- 9:13Appreciate it. Thank you so much.
