- 1:16topics dealt with on the portal. I'm with the
- 1:19journalist Enzo Mauri, who introduces today's
- 1:22topic. Good morning, today I'm talking to you
- 1:24about the first personal computer in history.
- 1:27When in 1965 the Olivetti Programma 101 was presented
- 1:31in New York, NASA technicians did not seem to
- 1:34have found the device that would have solved
- 1:36most of their problems. Gastone Garzia was one
- 1:39of the members of the auto group. of the project,
- 1:41he said that in New York, to give a demonstration
- 1:44of the device, they loaded a program to calculate
- 1:46space orbits. NASA technicians remained so disillusioned
- 1:51to order 40 models. The Olivetti Program 101
- 1:54was designed by a team led by electrical engineer
- 1:57Pier Giorgio Perotto, hence the nickname Pierottina.
- 2:01The other members of the group were Giovanni
- 2:03De Sandre, Giuliano Gaiti, already mentioned,
- 2:05Gastone Garziera and Giancarlo Toppi. At the
- 2:08time, the American General Electric Electric,
- 2:10after the acquisition of the electronic section
- 2:12of Olivetti, did not want to know about an Italian
- 2:15computer. To avoid the cancellation of the project,
- 2:17the program 101 was then classified as a calculator
- 2:21machine because the division of calculators was
- 2:23not part of the agreement with the GE. In this
- 2:25way, the invention could be perfected. Look for
- 2:29the page and the group of 7080 .it on Facebook

- 2:34In the years when man had to adapt to computers,
- 2:37the brilliant idea was to create a machine to
- 2:39do arithmetic calculations from the minimum amount,
- 2:42easy to transport and usable by everyone. The
- 2:45Olivetti Programma 101 did not have processors
- 2:47or printed circuits, but transistors, diodes
- 2:50and capacitors grouped in functional micro -units,
- 2:53a technology patented specifically for the machine.
