Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's happened? Everyone?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome into another episode of The Checko Daily. Andrew Dicheco Eglos,
- 0:15Speaker 2: beat reporter for insidethebirds dot Com.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Today's gonna be an episode for the sickos.
- 0:20Speaker 2: And I say that as a term of endearment because
- 0:23Speaker 2: today we're going to talk about the tryout players.
- 0:26Speaker 1: I'll run through the list.
- 0:27Speaker 2: And I also wanted to provide for you an answer
- 0:30Speaker 2: that Nick Sirianni gave when asked about his philosophy as
- 0:34Speaker 2: it pertains to Rookie Mini Caamp.
- 0:36Speaker 1: The Eagles had forty eight.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Players on hand for Rookie Mini Camp, thirty of which
- 0:41Speaker 2: were tryout players, and so Nick Sirianni provided an answer
- 0:45Speaker 2: to that, and he said, we really want to make
- 0:48Speaker 2: sure that we're getting work in here and getting them
- 0:50Speaker 2: again these habits started, and getting them running place to
- 0:54Speaker 2: start that process. How many times can they get an
- 0:57Speaker 2: opportunity to call a certain play and run a certain
- 0:59Speaker 2: play both offensively and defensively.
- 1:02Speaker 1: We think it's important.
- 1:04Speaker 2: I know that some of the league doesn't do rookie
- 1:06Speaker 2: Mini camp quite as much, we still think that's an
- 1:09Speaker 2: important part of the process for many different reasons. We
- 1:13Speaker 2: think it's really important to be able to bring guys
- 1:15Speaker 2: in because they're not in.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Football shape right now.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We think it's important to bring a wide variety of
- 1:22Speaker 2: guys in so you're able to practice, because if you
- 1:24Speaker 2: just had one deep in this camp, we'd wear these
- 1:27Speaker 2: guys out pretty darn quick. It is important, and it's
- 1:30Speaker 2: important to also be able to cast a wide net
- 1:32Speaker 2: and have that and have different types of players.
- 1:35Speaker 1: In here that you've had your eye on or that.
- 1:37Speaker 2: Have popped on tape for different things, and to be
- 1:40Speaker 2: able to get a look at them and see if
- 1:41Speaker 2: you can steal a guy that way. I think that's
- 1:45Speaker 2: always exciting to bring those guys in one so you
- 1:48Speaker 2: can practice, but two to see if you can steal
- 1:51Speaker 2: out there in some way, shape or form. So that
- 1:57Speaker 2: was Nick Sirianni on Friday one talking about tryout players
- 2:02Speaker 2: and his philosophy with that, and the Eagles had an
- 2:07Speaker 2: abundance of tryout players. And it's important to note that
- 2:11Speaker 2: in twenty twenty four, cornerback Sean Stevens was a player
- 2:15Speaker 2: who got signed as a tryout player off of a
- 2:19Speaker 2: productive rookie mini camp, and Sean made it through the
- 2:23Speaker 2: summer with the Eagles and he was waived prior to cutdowns,
- 2:27Speaker 2: and then in twenty twenty five it was wide receiver
- 2:30Speaker 2: Giles Jackson who got an opportunity to get to the
- 2:35Speaker 2: training camp to get on the training camp roster with
- 2:38Speaker 2: a strong showing at rookie mini camp.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So the Eagles will leave no stone unturned.
- 2:46Speaker 2: For the betterment of the roster, and it remains to
- 2:49Speaker 2: be seen if a player will get signed off of
- 2:51Speaker 2: this mini camp, but it is important to highlight that
- 2:55Speaker 2: the Eagles haven't been a stranger to grabbing a player
- 2:59Speaker 2: from there and getting them onto the ninety.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Man roster for training camp.
- 3:03Speaker 2: So with that, some players that were rookie Minicamp tryout players,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and I'm talking about rookies. Luke Acres punter Northwestern. He's
- 3:15Speaker 2: the son of former Eagles great kicker David Acres. Rhes
- 3:21Speaker 2: Verhoff kicker North Carolina, Seth Anderson, wide receiver, Iowa Mantymorrow,
- 3:31Speaker 2: wide receiver Upper Iowa Kagia Halloween wide receiver Temple. He's
- 3:38Speaker 2: an interesting one because he was getting some throwing in
- 3:42Speaker 2: with quarterback jaywhen Hurts and wide receiver DeVante Smith before
- 3:45Speaker 2: the draft. He to my knowledge, was not there for
- 3:50Speaker 2: the local day and I don't know that he was invited.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Last I checked on that he wasn't, But this gives
- 3:58Speaker 2: him a good opportunity. I think he has a rookie
- 4:01Speaker 2: mini camp again next week with the San Francisco forty
- 4:04Speaker 2: nine ers, if I'm remembering that correctly. But a lot
- 4:08Speaker 2: of times you'll see these tryout players have other opportunities
- 4:11Speaker 2: in case one doesn't work and they're really trying to
- 4:14Speaker 2: maximize their window to land on a training camp roster.
- 4:19Speaker 2: A couple running backs, Elijah Green from sam Houston State
- 4:23Speaker 2: and Jordan Simmons from Georgia State. I mentioned in a
- 4:27Speaker 2: previous podcast that there are a couple veterans in Elijah Mitchell.
- 4:32Speaker 1: And Khalil Herbert, both running backs.
- 4:35Speaker 2: But continuing on with the tryout players that are rookies,
- 4:40Speaker 2: a Marion McCoy defensive back, Boise State, Jon Manning defensive
- 4:45Speaker 2: back Mississippi State, Deuce Harmon defensive back Southern Methodists.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Let's see, we got.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Trevor Woods defensive back, Jacksonville State. Isaiah King linebacker Idaho.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Another interesting player that was really productive at Idaho, racked
- 5:05Speaker 2: up a ton of tackles, got to the quarterback.
- 5:08Speaker 1: The Eagles are pretty well at hand.
- 5:10Speaker 2: When it comes to linebackers, they have obviously their starters
- 5:15Speaker 2: in Jahad Campbell and Zach Bond. Jeremiah Trotter Junior is
- 5:19Speaker 2: as solid as a third linebackers you're gonna find in
- 5:21Speaker 2: the NFL, and I believe that there are a lot
- 5:22Speaker 2: of teams that he could even start for. Then you
- 5:25Speaker 2: have Smile Mondon. Beyond that, Chandler Martin signed a one
- 5:29Speaker 2: year I think it may have even been a two
- 5:31Speaker 2: year deal in free agency. And you have Chance Campbell,
- 5:36Speaker 2: who was on the practice squad last season, has familiarity
- 5:39Speaker 2: with linebackers coach Bobby King and by all accounts was
- 5:43Speaker 2: a really really standout performer in practice. And you have
- 5:50Speaker 2: an undrafted free agent who was signed in Deontay Lawson
- 5:55Speaker 2: out of Alabama Holby vying for a roster spot. But
- 6:00Speaker 2: I still think that they could stand to maybe sign
- 6:02Speaker 2: another linebacker, and if they do, I would think that
- 6:05Speaker 2: Isaiah King would be an appealing option, knowing that he
- 6:08Speaker 2: was productive and he doesn't have tremendous size at six
- 6:13Speaker 2: foot two two twenty four, but it would be fun
- 6:16Speaker 2: to watch and really just add another player for rep
- 6:20Speaker 2: purposes in training camp, Diago Brumfield defensive back Mississippi State,
- 6:27Speaker 2: Jayden Francois defensive back, Duke Anthony Ward linebacker Washington Lamandre
- 6:37Speaker 2: Joe defensive back Colorado State, Jamari Butler outside linebacker LSU.
- 6:44Speaker 2: You see the name and his size six foot five,
- 6:47Speaker 2: two sixty five, and you might be intrigued there. You
- 6:51Speaker 2: have to remember the Eagles typically bring seven or eight
- 6:54Speaker 2: defensive linemen pass rushers specifically to training camp, and right
- 6:59Speaker 2: now they have Jonathan Grenard, jay Loox Hunt, Nowen Smith,
- 7:03Speaker 2: Arnold A. Mccatie, Joe Tryon, Shoyanka, Jose Ramirez, and of
- 7:07Speaker 2: course the draft pick Keyshawn James Newby. So maybe they
- 7:10Speaker 2: decide to add another edge rusher at some point. The
- 7:13Speaker 2: roster's really crowded right now, so they may have to
- 7:15Speaker 2: be creative and how they would go about that, And
- 7:17Speaker 2: I would imagine that someone would really have to blow
- 7:20Speaker 2: them away in the tryout process. But I thought that
- 7:23Speaker 2: that was notable one that he's coming from LSU, and
- 7:25Speaker 2: then you see the size wasn't very productive as a
- 7:28Speaker 2: pass rusher there at LSU. But I thought that that
- 7:33Speaker 2: was one name that jumped out to me. Dekwan Williams linebacker,
- 7:38Speaker 2: Incarnate World. Austin Collins offensive lineman, Syracuse. This is another
- 7:47Speaker 2: interesting name because he played at Louisville, he played at Sarahcuse,
- 7:52Speaker 2: He's played six years in college.
- 7:54Speaker 1: A lot of starting experience that he brings.
- 7:56Speaker 2: The Eagles don't really have a ton of DEAs when
- 8:00Speaker 2: it comes to interior offensive lineman. Again, it's always a
- 8:03Speaker 2: long shot for any of these players to get signed,
- 8:06Speaker 2: but you have to look at the position and look
- 8:08Speaker 2: at maybe where the team is lighter. And I do
- 8:11Speaker 2: like that he's coming in with some experience, So that
- 8:13Speaker 2: name certainly was fascinating to me.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Then we get to.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Wide receiver Brandon Hayes at a Southeastern Louisiana.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Southeastern and Louisiana might be a school.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Do you remember me talking about Caleb Procter, the defensive
- 8:31Speaker 2: tackle that I really liked as an early day three option.
- 8:34Speaker 1: A lot of sacks, highly productive player went there.
- 8:38Speaker 2: And now, all of a sudden, I never thought I'd
- 8:40Speaker 2: mentioned Southeastern Louisiana ever, let alone as many times as
- 8:45Speaker 2: I have during.
- 8:46Speaker 1: This whole draft process. But here we are. J T.
- 8:50Speaker 2: Burne tight end Georgia Tech didn't have a lot of
- 8:54Speaker 2: receiving production there at all was sparsely utilized, but big
- 9:00Speaker 2: bodied guy at.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Sixty five two sixty five do.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Span wide receiver Pittsburgh light on production in college, bounced
- 9:09Speaker 2: around a little bit, good size at six four two ten.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Here's a name that I really like, TJ.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Burke, defensive tackle, Lehigh six two three ZHO five, a
- 9:23Speaker 2: lot of tackles for loss, got to the quarterback. Not
- 9:26Speaker 2: tremendous size or length, but someone who does have a
- 9:30Speaker 2: plus motor and plays with a lot of effort. The
- 9:34Speaker 2: Eagles are are pretty well set at defensive tackle as well,
- 9:37Speaker 2: but if they're looking for another body, maybe for down
- 9:41Speaker 2: the line in the preseasons occupy snaps, he might be
- 9:44Speaker 2: somebody who would be appealing.
- 9:46Speaker 1: And those are your tryout players.
- 9:49Speaker 2: And there's undrafted free agents, but I didn't include them
- 9:52Speaker 2: because they are signed. They're going to be going to
- 9:56Speaker 2: training camp with the Eagles. But I always get a
- 9:58Speaker 2: lot of questions about who's trying out and and maybe
- 10:03Speaker 2: what the what the team is you know looking for
- 10:06Speaker 2: there There's one wide receiver that I thought was was notable,
- 10:10Speaker 2: and that was Jakwan Jackson out of TWU Lane in
- 10:15Speaker 2: his second year was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in
- 10:18Speaker 2: the sixth round.
- 10:19Speaker 1: Good speed five nine, one eighty eight.
- 10:21Speaker 2: I should say good short area quickness and as I
- 10:25Speaker 2: was as I learned during the twenty twenty four pre
- 10:28Speaker 2: draft process, he was a team. He was a player
- 10:31Speaker 2: that the Eagles made multiple contacts with and they showed
- 10:35Speaker 2: some interest. But again, the team has so many wide
- 10:38Speaker 2: receivers right now, and right now you have Aj Brown,
- 10:42Speaker 2: he's on the roster, some counting him, Davonte Smith, Don
- 10:45Speaker 2: Tavian Wicks, mackay Lemon, Johnny Wilson, Darius Cooper, Elijah Moore,
- 10:52Speaker 2: Hollywood Brown, Quez Watkin's Danny Gray. So there's there's a
- 10:58Speaker 2: lot of names there. Brittain Covey, it's kind of hard
- 11:01Speaker 2: to see another one squeaking in as reps will be
- 11:04Speaker 2: at a premium, certainly at that position.
- 11:07Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 11:11Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there. But when it comes
- 11:14Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is
- 11:18Speaker 3: the dispensary for sports fans, just minutes outside of Philly,
- 11:22Speaker 3: with plenty of free parking. You'll be in and out fast,

- 11:29Speaker 3: Camedn Apothecary is all about the guest experience. Their staff
- 11:34Speaker 3: makes sure you feel taken care of every time you

- 11:52Speaker 3: even show love to the community with specials for fans, students,
- 11:56Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros. Camed in apotheca carry top
- 12:00Speaker 3: quality cannabis, great prices, and an experience made for Philly
- 12:04Speaker 3: fans twenty one and up.
- 12:06Speaker 2: But I just wanted to bring everybody up to speed
- 12:08Speaker 2: on the rookie mini camp that was held on Friday
- 12:11Speaker 2: and Saturday. And we'll find out in the coming days
- 12:15Speaker 2: or weeks if any of those tryout players that I
- 12:18Speaker 2: mentioned end up earning a contract with the Eagles and
- 12:21Speaker 2: punch their ticket to training camp.
- 12:23Speaker 1: But you have a short period of.
- 12:26Speaker 2: Time to really catch the eyes of the coaching staff
- 12:30Speaker 2: and you have to be you have to showcase something
- 12:33Speaker 2: special in order to do that and I'll throw a
- 12:37Speaker 2: player out there. In the case of someone like Brandon
- 12:39Speaker 2: Hayes from Southeastern Louisiana, not a lot of receiving production
- 12:44Speaker 2: in college, but he was a standout as a kick returner.
- 12:48Speaker 2: So those are certain things that I look for with
- 12:50Speaker 2: some of the players that they've brought in and some
- 12:53Speaker 2: of their specialties and things of that nature, because a
- 12:57Speaker 2: lot of these players don't have a lot of college reduction.
- 13:00Speaker 2: There are a number of defensive backs that tried out
- 13:03Speaker 2: that were solid players that that that I thought were
- 13:09Speaker 2: would have gotten undrafted free agents signing a deal somewhere else.
- 13:13Speaker 1: But we'll see how it goes.
- 13:15Speaker 2: It's this, This roster is loaded, it's very competitive, and
- 13:18Speaker 2: there's not a lot of spots that are that are
- 13:20Speaker 2: The Eagles are pretty much at capacity as the roster stands.
- 13:24Speaker 2: That could always change, of course, down the line, especially
- 13:27Speaker 2: when Howie Roseman is your general manager. If he believes
- 13:31Speaker 2: that any move is even going to be a marginal upgrade,
- 13:34Speaker 2: he's going to go ahead and do that. So again,
- 13:36Speaker 2: just wanted to put a bow on rookie mini camp,
- 13:40Speaker 2: provide you guys with some insight into the players who
- 13:43Speaker 2: were trying out and a little bit of background on
- 13:47Speaker 2: a couple of them.
- 13:48Speaker 1: But for now, that's going to do it for this episode.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Up to check O Daily, I'm Andrew to check O
- 13:53Speaker 2: and I'll catch you all on the next one.
- 14:01Speaker 3: Ad
