- 2:20a little bit later on multi Fest kicks off in Charleston Thursday, and Tamra
- 2:23Eubanks, who is the executive director of multi Fest, is going to join
- 2:28us to talk about that. But I want to welcome to the show now
- 2:30candidate for Attorney General and state Senator Mike Stewart. How are you, my
- 2:34friend? Hey, I'm doing great, Thanks for having me, Thank you
- 2:36for being here. Before we get to the campaign, and there have been
- 2:38some changes with the race for age since the last time year. I will
- 2:40get to that, but first interims are coming up. Anything and just to
- 2:45give us a quick preview, anything you're looking forward to on that, well,
- 2:47I think I still think there's some uncertainty. I have not seen the
- 2:51bills yet, so I want to read the bills and the call may come
- 2:53on Friday. It looks like there could be eight to ten bills we'll talk
- 2:58about fully pass and work on the the the jails and corrections officers certainly something
- 3:07that is a priority for us. And there's several several things, as you
- 3:10said, the corrections. They hopefully something will happen soon with foster care situation,
- 3:15a lot of a lot of things are going to be covered. I
- 3:17have to ask you this since you were the head of the Trump campaign in
- 3:21West Virginia in twenty sixteen. Real quickly a third indictment came down yesterday,
- 3:25Thoughts, Well, it was predictable, like we expected it, and we
- 3:30know that there was bad news for the Biden camp on Monday, and so
- 3:35we knew on Tuesday there'd be some sort of action against President Trump. And
- 3:38I'll say I've endorsed President Trump for reelection. Was his campaign chair in twenty
- 3:44fifteen twenty sixteen, was his personal pick for US Attorney. Listen, this
- 3:50is incredibly transparently political at this point, these indictments getting into the mind of
- 3:57someone trying to figure out what they believe. There's no question and Donald Trump
- 4:00believes that election was stolen. He's talked about it forever since the election.
- 4:05But let me point out that what's going to happen here is the president now
- 4:10has the ability to subpoena right. They've included him, They've brought him into
- 4:15the federal court system, something he's wanted with the respect to twenty twenty since
- 4:19that election was certified. And now he gets to subpoena election officials in Michigan
- 4:25and Arizona, in Pennsylvania and Wisconsin and Georgia. There could be tens of
- 4:30thousands of subpoenas. He is going to have the ability to defend himself in
- 4:34terms of his view of that election. Not my view, not your view,
- 4:39not the view of the Department of Justice. These are specific intent crimes.
- 4:43They've got to proof beyond a reasonable doubt that the president knew, absolutely
- 4:47knew in his mind that he was guilty of these crimes. It's gonna be
- 4:53interesting to see in you and I and I almost spend a lot of time
- 4:55on this, but I've made my feelings known about Donald Trump. However,
- 5:00it does get into a dangerous situation when you start trying to look into people's
- 5:03minds and what they're thinking. But we'll cover that on another time. Let's
- 5:06say this is pile on though. That's the problem the American people have.
- 5:10That's why Donald Trump's numbers are overwhelming. That's why he will be the nominee.
- 5:15He will. The American people don't like a two tiered justice system,
- 5:17and that is what we have happening in America today. Let's get to the
- 5:21race for attorney general. Last time you were on here, it looked like
- 5:25a two person race, with you facing off against fellow State Senator Ryan Well.
- 5:29Malcolm's word from a couple of weeks ago that the race has added another
- 5:35participant, State Auditor J B. Mccuski, who had been a candidate for
- 5:39governor, left the race for governor to instead attorneys his attention toward a race
- 5:44for attorney general. Overall your thoughts, Well, I don't think it was
- 5:46a surprise. That's why it was a surprise to me to hear both these
- 5:49guys him hauling about their relationship on statewide radio last week, one talking about
- 5:57his deep affection for the other the others and Goshi promised me he shouldn't have
- 6:01done that. It hurts my feelings. Give me a break. You're running
- 6:04for attorney general, for God's sakes. This is a tough job, and
- 6:09today is the day the incandescent light bulb becomes illegal in America. We have
- 6:14the Biden administration coming after your firearms every single day, and so I wasn't
- 6:19surprised a bit. I just think instead of talking on statewide radio about your
- 6:25relationship, your friendship, we ought to be talking about the people of West
- 6:28Virginia. News flash to both my opponents, this isn't about either one of
- 6:32them, and it's not about Stuart. It's about the people of West Virginia
- 6:36who really feel under assault right now. If I'm worried about the feelings of
- 6:41anyone, I'm worried about that coal miner that's afraid he or she's going to
- 6:45lose that job today because of the assault on American energy and West Virginia coal
- 6:50by the folks in Washington. I may get the exact quote wrong. We're
- 6:55talking to Mike Stuart, state senator and candidate for attorney General. I may
- 6:58get the exact what wrong. You can correct me, but that I did.
- 7:00I read that you called JB. Mccusky the most under underqualified candidate for
- 7:04attorney general. Well you you you got it almost perfect, almost listen,
- 7:13let's look at his background. And I don't want to pick on J.
- 7:15I consider him a friend. I like him. He's a nice guy.
- 7:19We're talking about the attorney general of the state of West Virginia. I don't
- 7:24think that you should be attorney general if you've only seen the inside of a
- 7:28courtroom on television, like, I don't think you should do that. I
- 7:31think he's done good things as the state auditor, and and I would encourage
- 7:36him if he wasn't measuring up in the governor's race, that perhaps he should
- 7:41think about going back to the auditors seat pit. Of all the positions in
- 7:45state government, attorney general, for goodness sakes, West Virginia versus EPA,
- 7:49these massive federal lawsuits, it's different than it used to be a moderate in
- 7:56the role of attorney general when all these federal hits are coming to West Virginia
- 8:01every single day, I don't think so. So. My biggest issue with
- 8:05my opponents, they're both very clear and moderates, both of them. J.
- 8:07B. Mccusky voted not once, not twice, but three times against
- 8:13constitutional Concealed Kerry, my other opponent. He single handedly blocked Campus Kerry and
- 8:20Judiciary Committee the Second Amendment. Don't you for one second belief that the federal
- 8:26government under the Biden administration isn't coming for your guns. Don't believe it for
- 8:31a second. You definitely need an Attorney general that's prepared to defend the Second
- 8:35Amendment. That's just one example. I've said this. I just believe the
- 8:37difference between my opponents is the the huge cavern between BlackBerry pie and BlackBerry coppler.
- 8:46BlackBerry pie and BlackBerry Coppler, they're the same, They're the same,
- 8:48different people, the same. Talking to Mike Stewart that maybe Bryan, it
- 8:54may be promo material right there. We're always looking for the little things we
- 8:56could thry. Okay, what changes do you want to make to the office
- 9:01if you are elected? Well, I think they're a couple, and I
- 9:05think we need to use the bully pulpit of the Attorney general for a couple
- 9:07of things. Did you know during the pandemic there was eighty three million dollars
- 9:13of unemployment fraud in West Virginia alone, eighty three million. You know how
- 9:16many of those folks have been prosecuted for unemployment fraud? Not a million,
- 9:22not two million, eighty three million, dollars of fraud virtually none, virtually
- 9:26none. I think the Attorney General should have some authority over state agency fraud.
- 9:31Not broad based criminal prosecution, not trying the murder case that happens in
- 9:37a particular county, but state agency frauds, securities fraud, unemployment fraud.
- 9:43I think it's an important role for the Attorney general too. I think we
- 9:46need to use the bully pulpit of the Attorney general to work on things that
- 9:50are important to law enforcement and public safety. I think it's time, after
- 9:54what happened to Sergeant Maynard Denimingo County, we need to talk about if you
- 10:01ambush law enforcement or first responders in the line of duty, that death penalty
- 10:07should be on the table. We ought to be able to talk about this
- 10:11statewide. It's outrageous what happened to sergeant Maine, or you go back and
- 10:15look at what happened to Cassie Johnson. We had another state trooper walked up
- 10:18to a card a traditional ordinary put ordinary in quotes traffic stop because shot in
- 10:26the elbow by a guy sitting in a car could have easily killed the trooper
- 10:30him. We need to talk about the protection of law enforcement, strengthening law
- 10:35enforcement of first responder protections across the state. But then let me point out,
- 10:39as I said, the incandescent light bulb, gas stoves, hunting and
- 10:43fishing equipment that the federal government's coming after. We need to make sure the
- 10:48Attorney general isn't in a role he is learning at the time he's going into
- 10:52that role. We need somebody who's been proven and tested. My record is
- 10:56US attorney a big record prosecuted to members of the state Supreme Court, a
- 11:01Republican and a Democrat. I was a bipartisan corruption buster. But we need
- 11:05somebody as attorney general who has that proven record that I have working with federal
- 11:11authorities, working in the federal courts, because a lot of the work of
- 11:15the attorney general is in the federal courts, and so the last thing we
- 11:20need is somebody learning on the job. And I think with where we're at
- 11:22in West Virginia today, the last thing we need is a moderate in that
- 11:26position. I'm a conservative. I'm a proven conservative. Check the box up
- 11:31and down the issues. Listen. I don't think little boys should be playing
- 11:35little girls sports. I don't. One of my opponents voted for that to
- 11:39be the case. That case, in particular, it matters why that's going
- 11:45to be pending. It's pending in the Fourth Circuit right now. We probably
- 11:48lose that case if I'm predicting, and most people predict that the next Attorney
- 11:52General will be in the Supreme Court of the United States to argue that West
- 11:56Virginia's law is constitutional which bans little boys from playing little girls sports. And
- 12:03I agree with that. I think it's very hard if we have an attorney
- 12:05general that voted the other way on the issue. Pretty hard to go in
- 12:09there if you don't have the passion of your convictions. You think Patrick Morrisey's
- 12:13done a great job as a good job. We're good our great job as
- 12:16attorney general. Listen, I think he's changed the standard as attorney general.
- 12:20Look at what he inherited versus what he's created. He was behind West Virginia
- 12:24versus EPA. Let me be clear to the folks listening to this show.
- 12:28I haven't endorsed anybody in the governor's race, but I'll say as Attorney General,
- 12:33Patrick Morrisey has set the standard in terms of taken on the federal government
- 12:37and protecting our interests. I don't think there's any question that after West Virginia
- 12:41versus EPA, a case that set the standard across the country, he was
- 12:46the leader amongst other Attorney generals, no question because of that, Because of
- 12:52that court case, more people are employed in West Virginia today as a result,
- 12:56no question. But I'll say this, my job if I end up
- 13:00being Attorney General is to continue and enhance what's been happening, but also to
- 13:05build on it. I'm not going to be a rubber stamp or carving copy
- 13:09of the current Attorney General. We each go into that job with our different
- 13:13expertise, our backgrounds. I've run something bigger the US Attorney's Office for the
- 13:18Southern District of West Virginia. This won't be I won't be a no office
- 13:22at this We ran a great operation and from a budget standpoint forgetting all those
- 13:28huge operations we had as US Attorney in my final two years, with a
- 13:33budget of it about twelve and a half million dollars, we brought in revenue
- 13:35of about thirty four to thirty five million dollars. That's a pretty good return
- 13:41for the taxpayer. Before we let you go, you've been out on the
- 13:43campaign trail. You and I were talking off the air about some of the
- 13:46places you've been. What are you hearing out on the campaign trail. That's
- 13:50the first part of the question, and the second part is it was brought
- 13:52up by somebody as it relates to this race for the Republican nomination for attorney
- 13:56general that now that j V mccuski has in the race, you know JB
- 14:01has run statewide campaigns. He's been elected to state auditor. That's something that
- 14:05you have not run a statewide campaign. Ryan Weld is also not run a
- 14:09statewide campaign. What are you hearing on a campaign trail? And are you
- 14:11concerned about name recognition? We'll close with that. I'm not concerned about name
- 14:15recognition. Listen, Ultimately, at the end of the day, a Republican
- 14:16primary is going to be conservative voters that come out to vote in that Republican
- 14:20primary. Out on the campaign trail, it's remarkable the reception that we get
- 14:24all across the state, whether it's the Eastern Panhandle, Morgantown, Parkersburg,
- 14:30Huntington, here in Charleston. My name id from being US attorney pretty dart
- 14:35and strong, but I am running against somebody that has name ID, and
- 14:39the question is that you're gonna Are you gonna embrace the name ID and that
- 14:41moderate record, or do you want a conservative? The grassroots are behind me
- 14:46solidly. They know who's the conservative? Am I undergunned, underfunded? Is
- 14:50this going to be a hard campaign? You bet it's gonna be hard.
- 14:54But I think people need to know the differences between us. Do you want
- 14:58BlackBerry pipe, BlackBerry ry cobbler, or do you want a conservative BlackBerry pie,
- 15:03BlackBerry cobbler a conservative. If you believe we need a conservative to fight
- 15:07the Biden administration, you better go to make wvgreadagain dot com. Makewvgreadagain dot
- 15:13com in support my campaign and listen. I'm not looking for huge dollar donors.
- 15:20I will want those folks who live in a little white house with a
- 15:22white pick offense, that care about these things, that care about these issues,
- 15:26that worry about their future. I've supported President Trump. I support them
- 15:31today. Listen, my opponents, I'm President Trump. It's like Voldemort,
- 15:35the name you can't say, he whose name you cannot say. My opponents
- 15:41have been quiet, quiet, quiet about President Trump since twenty fifteen. I
- 15:46challenge you to find anything indicating any support for President Trump, and I think
- 15:50it matters at the end of the day. So make wwgread again dot com
- 15:54for the third time. But I need help. I'm underman. Listen,
- 15:58I'm running against the guy who's run state. What a serious series moderate.
- 16:02There's a real challenge here, there's a real you want to moderate in that
- 16:06job? Don't help me. You don't want to moderate. You want a
- 16:08conservative. You better support Stewart and can I be tough? You bet I
- 16:14can. But that's what you need as attorney general. You need a tough
- 16:17candidate well in to fight Mike Stewart, State Senator and candidate for West Virgi

- 19:03the federal level is a necessity. No one in the race can match Mike
- 19:07Stewart on his federal level experience. This is why Stewart makes the best candidate
- 19:11and why I am voting for him. Tex says Mike Stewart automatically can't be
- 19:17taken seriously because of his support for Podas forty five, let alone him talking
- 19:21about himself in the third person. He says it should be about the people
- 19:25of West Virginia, but he's all about himself. Tex says, Pie has
- 19:29a pastry crust on top of bottom cobblers made with biscuit batter and doesn't have
- 19:33a bottom. Mike doesn't seem to be able to differentiate between two known quantities
- 19:37only on this show, Tech says. Stewart apps about gun rights as he
- 19:41believe cannabis users in legal states are protected by the Second Amendment as a federal
- 19:47government's prohibition of legal cannabis from buying and only firearms is a violation of the
- 19:51Second Amendment. If no he can define what shall not be infringed means,
- 19:56Tex says, the only name recognition Mike's Ward has is he's the most willing
- 20:00and most talented. Okay, I don't even know what that means. I'm
- 20:07voting for Stewart for a g says the text. However, murderous murder,
- 20:11regardless if it's law enforcement or not. Bring back the death penalty. Stewart,
- 20:15age twenty fours as a texture well sealed his fate when he created the
- 20:19high school Transfer portal. Dave, when Mike Stewart as Attorney General. He's
- 20:23a quality man with plenty of experience in law enforcement and has common sense.
- 20:29I look for him to be our next governor in the future. Thanks Dave.
- 20:33According to a texture, Mike says he is sounds like he's in tune
- 20:37with a heart of West Virginia. And for you Democrats in the process of
- 20:40texting Dave, your party has lost its way. West Virginias will not allow
- 20:42all these reprobates to turn our state into a Portland, Oregon or another San
- 20:48Francisco. If so, the texture mister Stewart is endorsed by four time and
- 20:52dieted criminal Donald Trump. Does anyone need any other reason not to vote for
- 20:56him? Howard Swetz, developer is whether it's right now? How are you,
- 21:00Howard? Good morning, David. I'm just fine. In you I
- 21:03am fine. Thank you for being here. Sorry, it's the first time
- 21:06I think you've been in studio. Right, have you been a studio but
- 21:07I know you know you've been on the phone, but I don't know whether
- 21:10you've been in studio. Well, welcome to the Palmar Store studio. Great
- 21:12to be here, it's great to have great to have you here. Now.
- 21:15Okay, it's no secret some of the issues with the town Center,
- 21:19and we've talked about it. You're concerned about an agreement going back a couple
- 21:23of years, and you and I kind of exchanged emails about having you on
- 21:26the show. So you had issue with the parking situation of the parking garages
- 21:30and also with the Charleston Building Commission. I'll leave it up to you,
- 21:33where do you want to go first and explain this to people why you're upset.
- 21:37Well, kudos to Commissioner Slingo for having to try to negotiate with a
- 21:42group of people who are now quote hostage taking when it comes to the demands
- 21:49that they've made for allowing the sports center to go forward on top of the
- 21:55parking garage on Lee Street. Their demands, evidently a year after the announcement,
- 22:00are so ownerous that he's gone public with them, and so I salute
- 22:06him. I've gone through this in varying degrees three times with Lady Tower when
- 22:11they went into bankruptcy, and by the way, the Parking Garages did go
- 22:15into bankruptcy. They're owned by a group called the Charleston Building Commission. That
- 22:21that's not the good guys down there at the city that do inspections and permitting
- 22:25a code enforcement. This is a very shadowy group and my estimation they've been
- 22:30around for forty years. I can't find virtually nothing on the Internet Secretary of
- 22:37State's Office. Yet they a couple of years ago, actually three years September
- 22:41of twenty in effect allowed the mall owner to be released from all responsibility for
- 22:49the parking garages, something that had hitherto for the last three plus decades had
- 22:55always been the responsibility of them all owner. But now that was through a
- 22:59three page agreement. I think you said, I sent that to you.
- 23:03It um. I'm concerned about whether the tens of millions of dollars of liability
- 23:08associated with those garages have been transferred from the private sector onto the city taxpayers.
- 23:15No one can give me an answer. So I'm going to go to
- 23:18City Council on Monday and ask that very question and probably be ignored, but
- 23:23so be it. So one, Okay, this Charleston Building Commission that you're
- 23:29that you're referring to, you say, and you're you're an investigative count of
- 23:32guy that you can't find anything out about them? Have you approached have you
- 23:36talked to the city about it? I know you said you're going to go
- 23:37to city council, but what has been your response if you've gone to someone
- 23:41within city Hall and ask about it? Well, I have not done that,
- 23:45and that's fair. But what I have done is gone to the internet
- 23:48and spoke with reporters who have written extensively about where we are with the parking
- 23:52garages, the sports center, et cetera. And nay, you know,
- 23:56well, I'll quote Ron Butler of KIA. He says, that's an undrum.
- 24:00I mean, the ownership structure of those parking garages and the land and
- 24:03the leans and the second and third positions. It's mind boggling, schizophrenic by
- 24:08the time you figure it all out. But the bottom line to me is
- 24:14I think the Charleston Building Commission, whoever they are and wherever they reside,
- 24:19may have transferred a great deal of responsibility, liability, obligations, debt,
- 24:27however you want to characterize it onto the taxpayers. So, and here's my
- 24:32point. The bondholders who've been holding us hostage, to use the term,
- 24:37they when those garages went into bankruptcy, they didn't foreclose. The bonds were
- 24:42defaulted on. They could have foreclosed, but just like a bank, they
- 24:47would have normally come in and taken into property. But no one in their
- 24:49right mind would foreclose on those garages. Why because they'd end up taking possession.
- 24:55So in other words, if I said, mister Allen, would you
- 24:56like to have three parking garages in downtown Charleston for free? Would you like
- 25:00to take them off our hands, I'd say, whatever you do, do
- 25:04not take those parking garages. First of all, you don't own the land.
- 25:07It's ultimately going to be a great deal of liability for either of the
- 25:11twelve to fifteen million dollars of maintenance whatever it is today, and then eventually
- 25:17you're going to have to tear them down. It's a huge liability. And
- 25:19my fear is is that the city taxpayers have had that shunted upon them.
- 25:26So this situation, and for those who may not be familiar with it,
- 25:29this is a bizarre situation as the way this whole town Center thing came to
- 25:34be in the first place. I mean, you know, you look at
- 25:37it, and I'm not an expert. You are when it comes to real
- 25:40estate and things like that, But when you look at a piece of property,
- 25:41you think, okay, well, and I'll use Madison Mall. There
- 25:47is no Madison Mall, but I'm gonna say Madison Mall. Okay, there's
- 25:48a Madison Mall. The owners of the property they own the parking lot.
- 25:52They own if there's a parking building, they own the area around it.
- 25:56They own the dumpsters, they own the space that they lease or rent out.
- 26:00But it's it's not that way with the town center. Oh no,
- 26:04it's a conundrum to use wrapped up in an enigma. So what was the
- 26:11idea behind that of setting it up in such a way. Well, I
- 26:15think political expediency. Senator Bird just goes all the way back literally to Senator
- 26:21Bird's days in Congress, and where it is is that it literally took an
- 26:25Act of Congress to allow for these tax exempt bonds to be sold by the
- 26:29Charleston Building Commission, and ultimately it was on Kia Land, which was part
- 26:34of Urban Renewal KURA, and then of course private private investment. And so
- 26:44the mall developers only wanted to do them all proper. They did not want
- 26:48to be in the business of garages that that that just overhead for them.
- 26:52They don't make hardly any money on parking garages, which, by the way,
- 26:56they're at the end these parking garages are at the end of their forty
- 27:00year useful life with twelve million dollars of well twelve to fifteen. I can't
- 27:04remember what it is of deferred maintenance. So it's just ludicrous for the bondholders
- 27:11to try and hold Commissioners Selango and the taxpayers hostage for what I estimate estimate
- 27:19would be upwards a thirty five million dollars of expenses and release of liability before
- 27:26they turn the first shovel of dirt for the sports center. So I say,
- 27:30walk away, this is a problem property. Go put fifteen million or
- 27:34twenty million into the old Macy's building, which is owned by a cure of
- 27:38the land and the building, and take that remaining amount of money and go
- 27:44build on another urban renewal project property and clean up a block or two.
- 27:48Or go over to the Kasky building, the Kasky Building, which is owned
- 27:52by the city. It's going to be vacant if it isn't already going to
- 27:56be if it isn't already, and let that be the new public service building
- 28:00for the city. Save tens of millions of dollars there and build on that
- 28:04giant parcel of land. The rest of the sports center. It's within walking
- 28:08distance of the Civic Center, it's within walking distance of the aquatic Center of
- 28:11the mall, etc. Etc. I'm kind of gathering now, don't I
- 28:15don't want to put words in Wilth Howard, but you are a proponent of
- 28:18the Capital Sports complex. Absolutely. Yes. I've seen the economic impact analysis
- 28:23for the aquatics center in particular, and it is a win win and all
- 28:26you have to do is look at well Commissioner Selengo would point out the soccer
- 28:32fields down Shane Shanee. So yeah, this is demonstrated economic development with a
- 28:38great return on investment, you know. And I know that you're in the
- 28:42real estate and the development and not necessarily into retail. But I think one
- 28:47of the one of the interesting things people say that malls have outlived their usefulness,
- 28:52and you know, malls are not what they were in eighteen eighty five.
- 28:56I completely get that the Internet and other other things have kind of played
- 29:00into the equation there to kind of change all that. But you know,
- 29:04I spent a lot of time in Honeyton. I'm a Marshall guy. I
- 29:07lived in Tay's Valley and sometimes I had that way. And the Huntington mall
- 29:10is is doing fine now was it what it was in nineteen ninety No?
- 29:15No, no, the mall is but it's it seems to be doing fine.
- 29:18And I and I say that to say this, the town Center is
- 29:22really really struggling. And everybody wants to point at something different as the rising
- 29:30leases and rent or or the issues with parking or things of that nature,
- 29:34and people say, well at a texture. Somebody said, well about the
- 29:37parking one of the town Center. Well, you've always had to pay to
- 29:40park there. It's a town center, so that's not something new. How
- 29:45do we fix that, I mean, how do we make people want to
- 29:48come there again? Or do we just walk away? Well that's a great
- 29:52question, and you're making very good points. You could argue that the Charleston
- 29:56Town Center parking garages that were stigmatized by what was perceived to be an unsafe
- 30:03in criminal activity situation, and all it takes is a couple highly publicized incidents
- 30:10to create that stigma. But you also have to bear in mind, Dave,
- 30:15that we have a saturated retail economy here and well here in West Virginia,
- 30:18we have a declining population, and we have unbelievably difficult online retail sales
- 30:30e commerce and a light that's not going away. And so with the combination
- 30:36of saturated retail sector, declining population, online competition, it's hard to make
- 30:42it go now. Of course, South charlestonder taking forty million dollars and borrow,
- 30:48borrowing from future generations and putting into a hazardous waste pond. So they're
- 30:52going to be able to underwrite anybody coming in, but they're only going to
- 30:55be able to take jobs and business away from existing business just because it's already
- 31:00saturated. I mean, I can show you vacant. Well, look at
- 31:03the town Center. I bet je's three quarters vacant now, and who knows,
- 31:07you know. I mean it was once one hundred million dollar property just
- 31:11six seven years ago. Bucks they got it for seven point five. They
- 31:15also were released from the liability of the parking garages, which was it was
- 31:21I don't know if it was a tax harvesting effort on their behalf. But
- 31:25they've come in, we boarded up all the storefronts and there you have it.
- 31:27And this whole group that we're going to be the saviors of the town
- 31:32Center. A lot of questions about that particular group, and I know that
- 31:36they've kind of butted heads with the city already because I had Mayor good one
- 31:38on the day. I think you even had the mister Hall I guess,
- 31:41the main guy on the show the day of with the mayor, and we
- 31:45talked about all the plans, and other than putting up a few murals here
- 31:48and there, I haven't seen a whole lot going in there. Oh,
- 31:52they went further. They tried to stop the hotel project, and which I
- 31:56could not understand why a property owner would stop the development of a brand new
- 32:01hotel that would increase their property values and increase foot traffic fur their stores.
- 32:06I couldn't figure it out, and they spend it a great deal of money
- 32:08in the courts fighting it, and then it dawned on me. I believe
- 32:14the reason why they did that is that they could end up controlling the property.
- 32:16The price or the value of the property goes down because now no one
- 32:21could develop it because of that demising wall. And then they sweep swoop in
- 32:24and get it for pennies on the dollar, and then they develop it.
- 32:29I mean knock out a couple of texts out of text here for you.
- 32:31Some one said thought the garages were funded. I'm sorry, I thought the
- 32:35garages funded KURA, that's the Urban Renewal Authority which I thought was quirky.
- 32:38Even in Atlanta, malls don't charge for parking. Well, those parking garages
- 32:44had to be built by someone, and of course the mall developers did not
- 32:51want to be expending their own money. So, as I understand it,
- 32:55the Charleston Building Commission once again they floated these bonds bondholders bottom, and the
- 33:01responsibility was spread over these well, the four corner anchors as well as the
- 33:08mall. The mall owners themselves. The mall owners traditionally have had all the
- 33:14responses, virtually all the responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep and uh bond income
- 33:21uh for those garages. So you're gonna go to city council on Monday night?
- 33:24You you aren't hopeful? Well, and by the way, let me
- 33:28just say that Monday city council meeting. Uh, you might want to grab
- 33:30you popcorn, You might you might want to pack a lunch, Howard,
- 33:32because it's it's maybe along Because that's also going to be the night that they
- 33:36hear the latest needle exchange programs. Thanks for the heads up. Yeah,
- 33:42that's also going to be here because they had the public hearing last week and
- 33:45I've talked about it on the show, and they're gonna bring it up,
- 33:47I'm presuming, and I'll have may or a good one on the show Monday
- 33:50to talk about it. But they're gonna bring it up Monday night at that
- 33:52same city council meeting. So yeah, that's a sticky issue. Yeah it
- 33:57is. So so what do you what do you expect to it out of
- 34:00this going to city Council and presenting what you just presented to us on Monday.
- 34:04Well, having done a lot of the homework on the Charleston Building Commission,
- 34:07the ownership structure of the parking garages, and where we are today,
- 34:10I'd like to think that I'm in a position to at least help some of
- 34:15the counselors understand where we are and to implore them to walk away from the
- 34:22sports center on top of a forty year old parking garage that ends up having
- 34:27air rights leases that drain the resources for decades to come. Get them to
- 34:31go somewhere else, And that's what Commissioner Selango has been pushing for. Frankly,
- 34:37from from what I've read, all Right, Howard, we got to
- 34:39leave it here. I appreciate always pleasure to talk to you, sir,

- 38:35more than just music associated goes. You think multi festists kind of like with
- 38:37Regatta people, that's the thing that they all go toward, but the music
- 38:44is a big part of it, and you've got a great line was looking
- 38:45over the lineup before we came to nag to Mary, You've got a great
- 38:47lineup of musicians. Yes, we try to hit all gendres and all generations
- 38:53of music, not necessarily music, but we have some African dancers coming from
- 38:59Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We have a jazz band coming all the way
- 39:04from La Las Vegas, Nevada. We also have an exercise morning on Saturday,

- 40:01eight thirty. We're so excited to have them. Of course we won't have
- 40:06Charlie Wilson with them, but we will have the band. And then to
- 40:08climax the entire festival, we're gonna have a big fireworks show. And who
- 40:13are some of the other musical acts that you're gonna have there? Well,
- 40:15starting on tomorrow, we're gonna have EU Band from DC, which is like
- 40:19a go go band, and we're featuring our local bands and artists here.

- 40:50a little gospel with Crystal Rucker. And then we also have Young Jock coming
- 40:54in to be with our young people. Just before the Gap band comes on,
- 41:00and I'll say one more thing and I won't talk about music anymore,
- 41:02I promise um. The miss Rocker that you mentioned, she is a nationally
- 41:07world renowned gospel singer out of Kansas City, I think is absolutely she is
- 41:12phenomenal. She is, She's a fantastic performer. What do you hope that

- 41:30other's culture, because again we're talking multicultural, so we're you know, we're
- 41:34looking to have a lot of ethnicities there. We want you just to you
- 41:37know, mingle together and learn what each other do and how they operate within
- 41:42their community and then realize that we're really not all that different. We're not
- 41:45all that different. We're all the same exactly, right. Is there a

- 42:37You know, I always look ahead to the weather, and I talked
- 42:39to my friend Brian Hughes, a lot, and weekend weather looks really,
- 42:43really good. Maybe a couple of showers, but you know it'll coolly off
- 42:45a little bit. Yes, And I think I heard h someone say on
- 42:49the radio the other day. You know, the Gap band has this song
- 42:52dropped the bomb on me, So we're gonna we're saying, dropped the rain
- 42:55on us, but not too much now. I don't think any to worry

- 45:57Charleston. I got a ton of texts to get to so let me.
- 46:00He kind of knocked out as many of these as possible. Going back to
- 46:01the Mike Stewart interview, Tex says Stewart compared JB. Mccusky switching races to
- 46:07gender fluidity by claiming he's committed to office fluidity, but didn't Mike Stewart just
- 46:12get elected to the Senate and now he wants to flip offices so soon?
- 46:15Does Mike really have such little self awareness? As Mike was leaving this Senator
- 46:22Stewart, I should say, as he was leaving this morning, he asked
- 46:25me. He said, you know, I really wish you would have asked
- 46:29me this. And it was about his which he knocked off Ron Stilling's a
- 46:34multi term senator out of Boone County to when the race he is and now,
- 46:37so the next time I have and he's addressed in the pastor next time
- 46:39I have Mike Stewart on the show, I will ask him about that.
- 46:45Texas, Mike Stewart, what an embarrassment, Texas with so many good conservatives.
- 46:49Okay, I already read that one. Sorry, Tex says dear Dave.
- 46:53I know you love animals, so did you know that every time you
- 46:55have a Trump supporter under show, a puppy dies. I'll take that under
- 47:00advisement. Tex says, I've midway between the town Center Mall and the Huntington
- 47:06Mall. I always choose the Huntington Mall for two reasons. Number one,
- 47:09the free parking. Number two, it's safer. I don't have to be
- 47:12concerned with smelly, hopeless people staring at me before they ask me for my
- 47:15money that I worked so hard to get for my family. Texas. Dave
- 47:22haven't heard anything about Kent carper lately. Is anything going on? I have
- 47:27not either. Of course, Commissioner carper Is is back running the Knack County
- 47:31commission again, and I have not heard anything. I haven't hear anything in
- 47:37a while. So we'll see if there are any any updates on that.
- 47:39Forthcoming phone calls to five any liver's service of Big Lee, Pig League,
- 47:44Wiggly and a texting services provided by Fruit Pharmacy, your hometown Family Pharmacy,
- 47:49tex says, will there'll be an all men night at Multifest? If not,
- 47:52why not? I don't I'm not sure. Text says good to hear
- 47:58Howard Swints take on economic development projects. He's always spot on. He's a
- 48:01smart guy. Howard Swint is Texas. If there's one way to keep West
- 48:07Virginia on its path of population loss, elected Mike Stewart to anything is a
- 48:13solid plan. I will give you the date once we finalize it. But
- 48:16later this month I have one of those most must listen to shows coming up.
- 48:22Now. I would hope that they're all must listen to. Two frequent
- 48:25guests on this show that couldn't be any further apart on their views are gonna
- 48:29sit down for the entire one hour show for a debate, a discussion,
- 48:34whatever you want to call it, State Democratic Party Chair and delicate Mike Pushkin
- 48:37and State Republican Party co Chair Tony Hodge in one studio, the Parmar Storage
- 48:44Studio. In fact, it should be good now. I have been the
- 48:47negotiator trying to make this happen, and they're both willing. It's just a
- 48:52matter of trying to shore up a date when both can do the show because
- 48:55they are both very busy, and we forget sometimes with political people that they
- 49:00do have other responsibilities outside just politics. Both mister Pushkin and mister Hodge both
- 49:07have full time jobs that have nothing to do with politics. And Tony is
- 49:13very very busy with his kids and so, and Mike is very busy doing
- 49:16Mike things. So it's kind of hard to try to get them together,
- 49:20but we aren't. We have a date picked out and I don't want to
- 49:22say it yet, but it's gonna be later in the month of August.
- 49:25We are going to have the two of them, no other guests that day.
- 49:29It'll just be Tony Hodge frequent guests to the show, and Mike Pushkin,
- 49:32frequent guests to the show, State Democratic Party Chair, State Republican co
- 49:36chair. In one studio studio. If the studio can hold it, I
- 49:39think it'll be a good discussion that's coming up a little bit later on.
- 49:43I'll give you the finals once we actually nail that down. Five Aty Lie
- 49:46presented in part by your hometown baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds
- 49:50one last night. They continue their long road trip, but they're back at
- 49:52home at Go Martin Ballpark August the eighth to take on Lexington. For tickets,
- 49:58promotions, gear, and more, visit Dirty Baseball dot com. Let
- 50:01me knock out some more to man, Mike Stewart may be the king of
- 50:06eliciting text on this show, Texas. Regarding Mike Stewart, don't forget he
- 50:10rides the cotails of an adjudicated sex abuser talking about former President Donald Trump,
- 50:16who, to no one's surprise when we kind of touched on it with Mike
- 50:20Stewart, picked up a third indictment yesterday. And you know, I don't
- 50:25have enough time to get into the whole thing, but I will say this.
- 50:30Trump loves this thing, absolutely loves it. He predicted it, you
- 50:34know last week that this was coming. And the more indictments he gets,
- 50:38let's go ahead and raise it to double digits. Okay, The more indictments
- 50:42he get, the more his basse loves him, and the more money he
- 50:45elicits in donations. So yeah, if you're Donald Trump, you're saying,
- 50:49bring on all of these indictments that you possibly can, because the more indictments
- 50:53you have, the more popular he becomes, and the more his bass loves
- 50:58it even more up his poll numbers. And as I said, there was
- 51:01a time that I thought that there could be a path forward for another Republican
- 51:07to be the nominee for president in twenty twenty four other than Donald Trump.
- 51:12That's not gonna happen as of right now. I don't see anybody else but
- 51:16Donald Trump being the nominating There was a time it could have happened to Samas.
- 51:20Just keeps falling further and further away. There's some good Republicans running to
- 51:23Tim Scott, Nicky Haley, others that are running. But the more heat
- 51:30that comes on Donald Trump, the more he's able to elicit campaign donations because
- 51:34basically what he does is he goes on the air and he goes to these
- 51:37rallies and he says, they're coming after me. They're coming after you.
- 51:39Send me your money, and that's what the people do. That's how he
- 51:44elicts more donations. Tech says on violence, I pretty much aligned with Mike
- 51:47Stewart on the issues, but dang, he's so insufferable to listen to.
- 51:52Tech says united, we stand, divided, we fall. Tech says,
- 51:55Nicky Haley is not good. All right, we gotta go come up on
- 51:59the show tomorrow, Dunk Sippoletti from the West Virginia Virtual Academies Here. West
- 52:01Virginia State President Eric Cage will stop by, and Charleston City Councilwoman Shannon Snodgrass
